courtesy of Ruiz-Healy Art, New York / San Antonio Nicolás Leiva is renowned for his exuberant sculptures and paintings that capture various expressive personal visions. Vessels, boats, abstract forms, flying carriages are transformed into ceramics in an explosion of lush primary colors embossed with metals like silver and gold. Animals and vegetables commingle in a garden of flowers amidst otherworldly places of shelter, are replicated as box-like reliquaries, and plate-like medallions in miniature close-up show territories transitioned from his works on paper. His imaginative world unfolds in infinite realms like a Möbius strip. Highly gestural, organic, or geometric, Leiva presents a host of archetypes in his emblems of flight, safety, and delight. Born in 1958 in Tucumán, Argentina, Leiva graduated from the Fine Arts School of the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán. He continued his studies in Buenos Aires and moved to Miami in 1990. In 1996, he extended his practice to sculpture and ceramics. He lives part-time in Faenza, Italy, where he works with a variety of materials at the workshops of Ceramica Gatti. His work is the subject of the 2005 monograph Nicolas Leiva: The Fire of Self and Multiplication with scholarly text by Ricardo Pau-Llosa and Mariza Vescovo published by Bandecchi & Vivaldi in Italy. He has had many important solo and group exhibitions in the US and internationally, notably his 2023 solo exhibition, Historia de un día, Museo de Bellas Artes Laureano Brizuela, Catamarca, Argentina. Leiva was recently selected for the 2023 Miami Individual Artist (MIA) Grant, Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs in Miami, FL. His works are in the permanent collections of the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA); The Snite Museum of Art at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana; the Berardo Collection in Lisbon, Portugal; the Gollinelli Collection in Bologna, Italy; and the Museum of Art of Fort Lauderdale in Florida. Cruise ships might look all shiny and glamorous, but there are hidden parts you'll never see unless you know where to look. Beneath the fancy restaurants and pools, there are whole maze-like areas just for crew members. Some ships even have secret morgues and jails tucked away in the lower decks. There are also hidden maintenance tunnels, storage rooms, and places where broken furniture and supplies get stashed. It's basically like a whole secret city operating underneath the vacation fun. Next time you're on a cruise, just remember — there's a lot more going on behind the scenes than you realize!

This week on the SwimSwam Breakdown, we are discussing the madness that occurred at the Ft Lauderdale Pro Swim.
Hi, I'm John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you're listening to Share Life Today. You know, it's unthinkable. It's February 1975, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. You leave a Gospel tract with a young gas station attendant you come across while you're filling your tank. He takes the tract, shoves you, gives you an earful; and while you're stammering for words, he walks away. Now, if you're someone who likes to hand out Gospel tracts, you've probably never had an experience quite like that, but I'll bet you've still wondered if the people you give these tracts to actually read them or they toss them. Hey, we all have. In fact, some people will argue that Gospel tracts simply don't work. But let's get back to the young gas station attendant. His name is Jeff, and forty years later, he reaches out to us to find the person who gave him that Gospel tract. Through it, he accepted Jesus as His Savior, and his life was forever changed. For a free online Gospel tract you can use wherever you go, visit our website at sharelife.today.

This week on the SwimSwam Breakdown, we are discussing the newly announced dual meet tournament, several international meets around the globe, and the upcoming Pro Swim Stop in Ft Lauderdale.
This week, the boys switch things up with a Wednesday night pregame as they get ready to jet off to Fort Lauderdale for a bachelor party! They kick off by diving into the madness of WrestleMania weekend and imagining just how wild Las Vegas must have been. Then it's a recap of last weekend's adventures — including a Cubs game and a rowdy night out at Bub City. The crew looks ahead to the bachelor party festivities, sharing what they're most excited about before jumping into a mix of recent news: the somber passing of the Pope, the wild Lays Potato Chip flavor contest, and a debate over Puerto Rico as a possible bachelor party destination — plus some very real talk about their battles with blackouts. Don't worry — they wrap it all up on a high note with some feel-good stories to send you into the weekend with a smile. Grab a drink and get ready — it's another classic episode of Saturday Night Pregame!
It's spring break, but of course Capeside's biggest nerds aren't going to Fort Lauderdale: they're heading to Vermont for what is apparently their traditional visit with Dawson's Aunt Gwen (Julie Bowen!). Pacey wasn't going to come, but the kids' old and previously never-mentioned friend Will Krudski (Rodney Scott) made a surprise visit to pull a Jake Hanson-- er, tell us all his deal as a working-class ne'er-do-well with daddy issues and a heart of gold and then leave for his own show (spoiler?), and since there's nothing to do in Capeside, they're going to an even smaller and duller town. Also joining is Andie, because someone has to have a crush on Will to make us think he's a viable leading man. Will Dawson stop thinking about his own reinvention long enough to notice all the eye-fucking Pacey and Joey are doing? Apparently not before their first night at Gwen's, because the sleeping arrangements end up putting Joey and Pacey in the one bed together for It Happened One Night high jinks. Back in Capeside, Fresh Fish server Shelley (Sarah Lancaster) has the hots for new busboy Henry, and Jen's not just telling her they're dating because otherwise they wouldn't have a plotline; and the surprise death of a longtime friend has Gale and Mitch reflecting on what they've lost...and could possibly regain? Close your eyes and lean in for our episode on "Stolen Kisses"! JOIN THE AWT CLUB

The infamous annual ritual of spring break—where thousands of college students head to the same warm location and go crazy—can seem like it's always been here. But it hasn't. The spring break phenomenon is a holdover from midcentury teen culture that has endured by changing, just enough, to be passed from one generation to the next. In this episode we're going from the beaches of Fort Lauderdale to Daytona, from the movie screen to the TV set, from MTV to Instagram reels, from its start to its surprisingly recognizable present, as we follow the evolving, self-reinforcing rite that is spring break. You'll hear from former MTV staffers Doug Herzog, Salli Frattini, Alan Hunter, and Joe Davola, along with John Laurie, Kaylee Morris, and Slate writer Scaachi Koul. This episode was written by Willa Paskin and Katie Shepherd and produced by Katie. It was edited by Evan Chung, Decoder Ring's supervising producer. Our show is also produced by Max Freedman. Merritt Jacob is Senior Technical Director. Thank you to Bob Friedman and Allan Cohen, producers of Spring Broke; David Cohn, Derreck Johnson, and Ivylise Simones.
