There's always something special about the Italian Grand Prix. It's a combination of the out and out speed of the circuit, the stands full of the Tifosi , even when Ferrari aren't on top form and of course a National Anthem before the race that it's impossible to sing without sounding like you 100% mean every word of it. And this week, we got the full package! This week we look back at the Monza race where Max Verstappen proved that RedBull can still make a car that can destroy the rest of the grid on pure pace alone and McLaren proved that they are human after all by making mistakes and then fudging their solution to them when they crop up! Big announcement form us this week as well as we launch our new merch store, thanks to the wonderful people (especially Larisa) from Dashery. We've already got a few new designs up and it's not just t-shirts, there's mugs, stickers and even cushons with more designs to follow. Check it out at https://3legs4wheels.dashery.com/Aside from that there's the usual ton of tangents and occasional missed jokes (Paul). And if you want to join in with the chat during the races (along with practice and qualifying) head over to our Discord where there's always a great crowd of people to watch along with. And on the socials we've got our Facebook, Instagram, BlueSky & Twitter (or is it X) and Paul's attempts at Sim Racing on our Twitch channel. And if you want to support us you can donate to our Patreon as well from as little as £/$/€ 1 per monthEnjoy

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?—Josh Jones has done a lot of things when it comes to magazines: Editor. Writer. Maker. Custom publisher. Mentor. Evangelist. All of the above. Has Josh helped write a book about hip hop in Mongolia? Yes. Has he sat back and watched Gordon Ramsey mash his face into a sandwich? Indeed. Has he written an instructive how to book that reminds the reader to always lift a box of magazines by bending one's knees? Yes, again. For more than 20 years, Josh has been creating magazines, both for resolutely indie concerns and reasons, but also custom publications for the likes of The North Face, Red Bull, Interscope and Nike. And while he has no illusions about the challenges the industry faces, he's also resolutely optimistic about a world that he loves, so much so that his “field guide to publishing an indie magazine” Just Make Your Magazine is, true to its subhead, the “fastest selling self help book.” OK, I don't know if that's true. It probably isn't if I'm being honest. But still. You speak to him and you become an optimist. And this is not just because, as he says in the book, “indie magazine making has never been more popular.”It's also because, and perhaps caught up in the same optimism, I suggest that it's possible we are over the Print Panic of the mid aughts and the industry, as a whole, is now back on a sustained kind of upswing. That's an idea we're going to explore on the show this season. Because there has to be some things that are right in the world, damnit.—This episode is made possible by our friends at Freeport Press.

For many women over 40, cardio brings up memories of the 90s and early 2000s—endless hours on the elliptical, chasing a smaller body, and pushing through with Red Bulls and salads. It was an era marked by toxic fitness culture, and the fallout left a lot of us burnt out, swearing off cardio completely. But now, with energy, stamina, and health markers changing in midlife, it might be time to take another look at how cardio fits into your life. In this episode, we explore what it means to rebuild a healthier relationship with cardio. From my personal journey—burnout from endurance sports, swinging the pendulum into strength training, then finding my way back to cardio on my own terms—to practical ways you can ease it back into your routine, this conversation is about healing from old patterns and creating balance. You'll also hear answers to common questions about what counts as cardio, how to tell if it's moderate or vigorous, and how to weave it in with your lifting. What you'll learn in this episode: Why so many women over 40 have a complicated history with cardio The role of diet culture and body ideals in shaping our relationship with endurance exercise How to reframe cardio as a supportive tool instead of punishment Practical ways to bring conditioning back without burnout or dread Guidelines for balancing cardio with strength training so both work together Simple strategies for starting small and progressing over time Enjoyed this episode and want more? When Payson hobbled his way into the Red Bull Athlete Performance Center in May with a broken hip, he wasn't expecting to be off crutches anytime soon, but thanks to the work of coaches like Will Gilmore, he not only managed to leave the facility without crutches, but also to jump back into racing a full month and a half before he'd planned. Will started his career in baseball, playing professionally before becoming a strength and conditioning coach for the Kansas City Royals and Cincinnati Reds. Now at Red Bull, he works with athletes across the spectrum, from snowboarders and gamers to surfers and cyclists. In this conversation, he and Payson chat about why he left professional baseball, how he and the team at the Athlete Performance Center adapt their knowledge and technology to over 800 athletes in a dizzying number of sports, and how he helped Payson return from injury long before it seemed possible. Can we talk about how Red Bull suddenly stopped overlooking the fitness crowd? It was more than a decade ago when Bang Energy popularized performance energy drinks, which was instrumental in broadening the appeal of energy drinks. And even if they won't ever admit it publicly, large energy drinks incumbents like Red Bull and Monster Energy both incumbents have become increasingly worried about brands incubated within the sports nutrition niche of the supplement industry, aka the “often imitated, never duplicated” influential epicenter of the CPG industry. But while it wasn't forced into a defensive product strategy like how Monster Beverage created Reign Total Body Fuel…Red Bull has more recently started focusing sports sponsorships and marketing activations on fitness enthusiasts. In fact, Red Bull exhibited at this year's Arnold Sports Festival, has gotten involved with fitness racing leagues like HYROX, and created branded fitness competitions like Red Bull Gym Clash. Finally, Red Bull just signed a multi-year global partnership with the functional group workout community F45 Training…integrating product sampling, branded coolers, and leveraging content creators.

This week, Scott sat down with old and new Lawfare colleagues—Benjamin Wittes, Renée DiResta, and Michael Feinberg—to talk through the week's big national security news stories, including:“An Old Fashioned Anti Raid.” Former Trump National Security Advisor (turned Trump critic) John Bolton got a rude awakening this past week when the FBI conducted a raid at his home, reportedly on the grounds that he is believed to have retained classified information from his time in office. It's the latest in a recent spate of (well publicized) investigations targeting Trump's critics and enemies, including a series of mortgage fraud investigations into Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook (who Trump now purports to have removed for cause), New York Attorney General Letitia James (which coincided with a photo shoot that Justice Department official Ed Martin did, uninvited, outside of her home), and Senator Adam Schiff. How big a threat are such investigations to Trump's enemies? And what will their long-term implications be for the Justice Department?“Uncleared and Present Danger.” Last week, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard pulled security clearances from 37 current and former intelligence officials on the purported grounds that they had “abused the public trust by politicizing and manipulating intelligence, leaking classified intelligence without authorization, and/or committing intentional egregious violations of tradecraft standards.” Those affected range from current senior intelligence officials to former officials who have been out of government for years to current senior congressional staffers. What are the consequences likely to be of Gabbard's actions and what does it show about the Trump administration's approach to national security agencies?“Blue Sky Thinking.” In response to a state law mandating age verification for anyone seeking to use social media platforms, Bluesky has opted to shut down its services in the state of Mississippi. What does this sort of response tell us about the trajectory of state and federal regulations, and what the impact might ultimately be on the internet? In Object Lessons, Ben is letting The Algorithm light his way—literally—with solar-powered sunflower lights. Renée, not to be outdone, also bows before our algorithmic overlord and wants you to stream Red Bull's YouTube dance battles. Scott is using his green thumb to plant the seeds of some versatile green fruit. And Michael is going less horticultural, more horrifying, by planting horror movie props around his house—because nothing says “I love you” like a severed head in the fridge. To receive ad-free podcasts, become a Lawfare Material Supporter at www.patreon.com/lawfare.
