Who is JOB, really? One of the greatest surfers of his generation, for one. At Pipe, he's right there in the best-ever conversation, on any respectable list. In terms of pure comfort at one of the deadliest waves on the planet, he's the prize mattress in the showroom. Five stars, perfect lumbar support. He toys with Pipe like the reef beneath him is a foam pit rather than a death trap, riding colourful pool toys and soft tops through a place that has humbled generations of very serious adults. Naturally, he's now selling his own soft-top brand, Fun Days Surf. If you're going to spend your life doing something ridiculous, you may as well own the factory. Build a business around your bad habits. The venture marks a clean break from Catch Surf, the brand he helped build. Jamie gets into the split in this episode, and he has plenty to say about how it all unfolded. “Sometimes people forget about the value you bring to the brand,” he says. “When they forget about that, it's time to forget about them.” And though it seems perfectly ordinary now, a grown man wandering down the beach, board under one arm, phone held high in the other, live-commentating one's own existence, it wasn't always this way. Jamie essentially invented surf vlogging. At one of the most intimidating, tradition-bound waves in the world, no less. Imagine the abuse he copped, paddling out with a camera pointed at his own face. Then again, it helps when you're one of the best to ever surf the place. Genius affords a certain social licence. Jamie is also a vocal advocate for saying exactly what he thinks, and he's refreshingly punchy here. He names his greatest Pipe surfers of all time, unpacks what really happened with Catch Surf, and argues that most people claiming to be “core” are still cashing cheques from surf brands, which by his definition at least, means they're not core at all. Thanks to our partners at RedBull, Vaer, Dome Dust, SlowTide, and Devium, for making StabMic possible.

Send us Fan MailA lot to talk about this week as Charlotte celebrates its first MLS All-Star events!  But first, Charlotte FC traveled to clinch an away win and clean sheet against the Red Bulls, 2-nil. Goals by All-Stars Pep Biel and Ashley Westwood were made of pure class while Kahlina and the defensive line earned only the third clean sheet on the season. Then USMNT defender Tim Ream showed his professional skill with near-deadly precision and accuracy in the 2026 MLS All-Star Skills Passing Challenge, bringing home the win and a trophy for his efforts. And finally, Ream, Biel, and Westwood earn debuts as MLS All-Stars in a match that tallies a win for Coach Dean Smith but truly showcases multiple All-Stars MLS talent in goal contributions and standout performances. Also back on topic is transfers and rumors and the performances of those who might be called on to fill in for the lack of depth. The Queens' Pitch on X@thequeenspitchclt

Acclaimed stage and screen actor TEAGLE F. BOUGERE joins host Nathan Winkelstein for a deeply personal conversation about one of William Shakespeare's most moving late plays, The Winter's Tale. Currently appearing in his fourth Shakespeare in the Park production, directed by Daniel Sullivan, Bougere reads Camillo's Act 1, Scene 2 monologue — “O miserable lady! But, for me, What case stand I in?” — before reflecting on the play's extraordinary emotional power. Together, they explore why The Winter's Tale remains one of Bougere's favorite plays, from its rare vision of redemption and second chances to its profound meditation on grief, forgiveness, and the hope of seeing loved ones again. They also discuss Bougere's approach to paraphrasing Shakespeare and the surprising connections between The Winter's Tale, Macbeth, and their own lives.

It was a reunion none of us were expecting, and even Doug wasn't entirely sure what he was seeing. We talk about the life they might have experienced, the challenges they faced, and what it means when, all of a sudden, Kelnys turns up. A happy reunion? Well...that probably depends on how you look at it.Then we dive into the theories of it all! What does this world actually mean? How can it even exist? How is everything connected? We don't get many answers, only more questions, which seems to be becoming a running theme....and the best part? Happy National New Jersey Day and apologizing for "winging it" while living in temporary shore chaos with random neighborhood kids wandering into the house. We recap a wild week that included breathing in Canadian wildfire smoke and surviving an unannounced flash hurricane that flooded the streets, floated shoes and bikes, and washed un-secured drywall from the controversial LBI mega house directly into the bay. The beach badge checkers are also out in full force, prompting Erin to sprint into the ocean in street clothes to evade them for 45 minutes before discovering the rules changed to require badges even for surfers. Another event of the week, however, was Dan's three hour sailboat rescue where he had to jump into the stormy bay to tie a bowline knot and fix his broken Sunfish boat while saving a beginner sailor who blew downwind. We also file a formal complaint about Dan asking Erin to fetch ambiguous tools from his five different toolboxes, recount a neighbor dropping off sourdough bread wrapped in twine mid-recording, and recap the chaos of police and fire showing up for an alarm while the homeowner's daughter was 30 seconds away from singing opera in Prague. In sports and pop culture, we discuss the "5K Guy" who faced internet backlash for running a 5K in his World Cup seat before clarifying he was safely in a brand sponsored section. Erin also drops a massive announcement about scoring an Apple TV brand invite to the Ted Lasso Season 4 premiere and a courtside WNBA game in LA. We introduce a new sport called "Cycle Ball"—aggressive indoor soccer played on bicycles—and react to a Red Bull stunt featuring a stuntwoman jumping from an extreme height into a pile of hay. We also debate a viral video of an elite runner mom waving off her clueless husband and kids when they ran onto the course 15 feet before the finish line, and we hype up the Philadelphia Parallel Parking Championship featuring an "under duress" category. Finally, we vent our frustrations over a gut health company stealing Erin's video about bloating and adding a creepy, glitchy AI spokesperson to sell their product. After reading through a list of hilarious blue collar insults, we share an update on the Cyclospora parasite outbreak. We wrap up with "No Bad, No Sad," celebrating an elite Uber driver named Rob with over 14,000 rides who ended up eating drive thru food, playing board games, and chilling in a jacuzzi with his passengers.

See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On l'avait presque oublié.

Racing Bulls Team Principal Alan Permane says his exit from Alpine in 2023 was both ‘devastating' and a ‘defining moment' in his career.‘Devastating' because he'd been with Team Enstone for more than 30 years, winning World Championships with Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso. But ‘defining' as it led to his first role as a Team Principal in Formula 1 – his biggest job yet.One year since taking the reins, Alan tells Tom Clarkson why the role was not initially a natural fit for him, how he's risen to the challenge and what changes he's made at Racing Bulls. He also shares fascinating insight into his drivers. What state of mind was Liam Lawson in after his demotion from Red Bull Racing? How did he produce such an impressive turnaround in form? Why does Alan describe rookie Arvid Lindblad as ‘very pushy'? And how has he dealt with some intense moments between Lawson and Lindblad on track? Alan also talks about the unique way they decided which driver would receive the team's latest upgrade first, whether they'd ever give Max Verstappen a test in the Racing Bulls car, and what he makes of Red Bull junior driver and F2 championship leader Nikola Tsolov. This episode is sponsored by: Wayfair: ready to upgrade your home for way less? What if the data you're obsessing over is the very thing capping how far you can go? In this episode of The Game Changing Attorney Podcast, Michael Mogill sits down with Andy Walshe, the human performance leader behind Red Bull's high-performance program and the Felix Baumgartner stratosphere jump. They dig into why the metrics everyone chases can only take you so far, and why the traits that truly separate elite performers (character, creativity, how you show up when it's hard) are the ones almost no one is actually training. It's a look under the hood of what elite performance really requires when the stakes are highest. Here's what you'll learn: How character, not metrics, can be the real dividing line between good and elite How to train creativity as a skill instead of treating it as a gift you're born with What it takes to perform under extreme pressure when everything is on the line If you've been optimizing the measurable and ignoring the human, this is your wake-up call. How To Build A Brand Around John John Florence | StabMic Ep. 23

“Everyone wanted to sign John. We just kind of thought, if he was going to start his own thing, now would be the time.” The surf industry has a long-running kink of slapping sticky hickeys on surfers and trying to squeeze them into the shape of a brand. Perhaps less so now, with the stickers losing some of their stick. But just look at our quasi-regular co-host, Dane Reynolds, whose lack of connection to the traditional surf-brand model ultimately led to his split from Quik and the creation of his own company. Five years into the Florence experiment, Sam and Doom sit down with Ryan Hurley, co-founder and creative director of Florence, to discuss the business of building a company around John Florence, the ambition to make it something much larger than a surf brand, and also Michael Jordan. But first, the origin story. When John's contract was coming to an end, the offers were plentiful. Among them was a reported $1 million-a-year deal from Rip Curl. John could have signed with any major surf brand, accepted the full cheese platter laid out for his royalty and continued living the glamorous life of a professional surfer from yesteryear: ride for a company, appear in a few campaigns, help sell its clothes and earn millions of dollars. Instead, he started his own company. Although, as Ryan reveals in this episode, the idea wasn't really John's. It was proposed by Ryan and his brother Dan, who had already built a considerable business at Hurley under the family patriarch, Bob. John had spent most of his career riding for Bob's company. When his contract came up, the Hurley bro's saw an opportunity. Everyone wanted to sign John. Why not build something with him instead? And for that matter, why not name the whole thing after him? Which brings us to MJ. The Jordan brand is the archetype for what Ryan wants Florence to become: a premium sports brand, built around a generational athlete, and eventually expanded into something that exists beyond the athlete's original field. Jordan's playing career eventually petered out in Charlotte, a slightly sad epilogue to the Bulls era. But by then, his name had already become a global sports company. Sidenote: who is the Michael Jordan of surfing? Probably Slater, for mine. John might be LeBron. Anyway, surfing, in this conception, is the point of origin, but it ain't the final destination. Surfing leads to the ocean, the ocean to the great outdoors. And the great outdoors, theoretically, is a considerably larger market than surfing. If anyone can build that kind of bridge, Ryan believes, it is JJF. Ryan also has some fairly pointed thoughts on the current state of the surf industry. He sees the 1990s as its golden era, when surf brands were pushing design and culture forward, and the 2000s, with it's helicopters and billionaires, as a kind of silver era. The present, well. A little light on the old abundance. Strange, then, that Florence is growing. “A lot of the old ways of doing things are broken, and I think it requires new thinking to create a new future,” Ryan says. “But it takes people time to come around to new ideas.” Also included: who is more important to Florence when it comes to selling product? John or Nathan? Find out in Episode 23 of StabMic. Thanks to our partners at Red Bull, Yucca Fins, SlowTide, Devium, TurtleBox, Vaer, and Dome Dust, for making StabMic possible.
