Here's the 411 on my IG Sales Strategy 101 -- it has 3 core parts (I go into more details during today's episode of The Online Business Show...but I wanted you to have a little teaser).1. Your Audience -- I need you to get crystal clear on WHO you help. BUT, I want you to skip the generic demographic stuff everyone teaches. I don't care as much about your ideal client named Samantha who is 36, drives a Honda Pilot, is a mom of 2, and drinks a grande skinny white mocha from Starbucks every morning. What I DO dare about is WHY she gets that drink every morning (Is it because she's a creature of habit? Is it because she sees it as a treat for herself? Because she likes the consistency of Starbucks? Is that drink her moment of reprieve from her crazy life?). I care about WHY she is a mom -- what does motherhood mean to her. I care more about her thoughts and beliefs and values than I do about her favorite place to shop and favorite magazine.2. Your Offer -- You gotta sell one thing...and that's it. I know, you may be cringing right now. But, I promise you, the sooner you streamline your business and focus on ONE program, product, or service, the sooner you'll have more peace of mind in your work. Sure it takes time and trial and error to find the RIGHT one thing...but once you're there, you gotta stick with it and focus. This is the primary way you are creating transformations for your customers and clients.3. Your Sales Process -- To make sales in your business you MUST, you MUST, you MUST ask people to buy. You don't have to do it all the time and you don't have to act like a used car salesman. You can do it tactfully and thoughtfully and on YOUR terms. But, you'll need to have a real process for getting your followers to move from lurkers and likers to BUYERS. Having a plan for consistently positioning you and your brand then promoting your program, product, or service is key to a profitable IG strategy. And that's just the tip of the IG Sales Strategy iceberg. I break it all down and go over it step-by-step during today's episode of the podcast -- out now where ever you listen to podcasts! * okay I lied.... My Favorite Comedians ended up being longer than "6 Degrees of Separation".. and not just that, "My Favorite Comedians" happens to be The Longest Podcast I ever did on here at 55:58... The Second Longest one being my Interview with a Holocaust Survivor on November 18th, 2019 at 53 minutes and 9 seconds...Stay for his Russian Song after the 50 minutes point. After it reached 55 minutes it gave me a timer and let me know that it only allows the recording of up to 60mins, with it getting to 55 minutes to let me know of that, its a rare occurance to have that notice warning to come up about the 55 mins to 60 mins info to be aware of all that. Any future podcasts I do I will try to keep everything below 55 minute, but yeah its good to know what they do to us once reaching the 55 mins section. * ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ If You Enjoy any of My Content or get Any Value in What I Do, or you have Any Video Requests or any Review Requests You Can Donate to Support me @ https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/mmmentertainmentllc paypal.me/mmmentertainmentllc All proceeds go to my personal account. New ep, who dis.....? Ha ha, had to put that in as it was very recently revealed (as in, 2 minutes before typing this) that Dylan absolutely HATES the "new phone who dis" bit, so naturally, I wouldn't be a big brother without exploiting things that he finds traumatic. Speaking of, we open some old wounds in one of our tangents about a time I traumatized Dylan by not appreciating GTA5; which, I don't really recall at all.... What I DO recall is that in this ep we discuss Killing Zoe and Kubo And The Two Strings, and we could not disagree about them more. This is our most contentious episode yet with heated words actually exchanged (I mean, not TOO heated, we stay respectful) but if you found it annoying that we were always too agreeable, this is the episode for you! Unless you're French, because we rip a bit on them too. Mon dieu. Vote in our polls on Twitter @FileUnderPod, & e-mail us at FileUnderPod@gmail.com.

Episode 640: WHAT I DO. I connect you with executive-level, pre-qualified remote workers to help scale your business and make more profit WHY YOU SHOULD CARE. Let's be honest; running a business is hard. So hard that most people give up and fail. We are not those people. Yes, I was there and maybe you were or are there too. This isn't a cheesy sales pitch but there is a better way. You can get the talent you need and it will be at the right price. You just have to think differently and think globally. WHY I FOUNDED EXTEND YOUR TEAM. After growing an e-commerce company to $5MM in annual revenue, I was buried with running the business. Before long, I started working 14+ hours/day managing multiple teams, projects, and completing low-value tasks. To be open, I was miserable. That's when I connected with Angelica, a mid career pro from the Philippines, to help me run my business as my Chief of Staff - reducing the time I spent on the business by 80%. She nothing short of changed my life and is the reason I founded my company. I want everyone to have an Angelica on their team. Testimonials are the secret sauce to getting more business. Happy New Year to everyone. I know we're half way through January but I was a little slow off the mark this year. The January 2021 edition of UP! blends a mix of new tracks with some classics thrown in for good measure. The set kicks off with Kylie's new track "Real Groove" mixed by the very talented DJ Argonaut from Melbourne. Melanie C and Tones And I follow up with their current hits and it's great to see Cosmic Dawn back with a signature mix of "Save Your Tears" by The Weeknd. As the set moves into a more progressive house sound, Russ Rich & Andy Allder deliver a standout mix of Taylor Swift's new track "Evermore" as does Wayne G. on "Without You Tonight" by Anne Steele. The set eases into a big room sound with remixes from Dirty Disco & Dario Xavier and then plants its feet firmly in big room territory with remixes from Nick Stracener, Enrico Meloni and Toy Armada & DJ GRIND on new tracks from Miley Cyrus, Sagi Kariv and Sia. Welcome to 2021 everyone. Lets' hope things improve from here on. Enjoy Anthony 1/ "REAL GROOVE" (Argonaut Remix) - KYLIE MINOGUE 2/ "OVERLOAD" (Todd Terry Club Mix) - MELANIE C 3/ "FLY AWAY" (Charlie Lane Remix) - TONES AND I 4/ "SAVE YOUR TEARS" (Cosmic Dawn Remix) - THE WEEKND 5/ "WHAT I DO" (Until Dawn Club Mix) - SHAB 6/ "EVERMORE" (Russ Rich & Andy Allder Evermore Dancefloor Club Mix) - TAYLOR SWIFT 7/ "FOLLOW YOU" (Original Club Mix) - MATT DAREY & STAN KOLEV ft. SUPPORT ME ON PATREON WATCH MUSIC is not a GENRE VIDEOS and MORE When you're in high school, you're looking for two wildly divergent things. First, you're looking to belong. That's different for everyone – and as the practically-a-documentary The Breakfast Club taught us, where you belong can be entirely up to you. The point is finding like-minded people one way or another, so you're not a total outcast or adrift on a sea of isolation. Second, you're looking for your identity. You want to know who you really are, and how deeply that's driven is based on so many factors, not the least of which is how comfortable you are with the truth. I DO NOT have a deep nostalgia for any of my school years. So many great things happened, and I'm grateful for the people who still mean something to me, but I have no desire to revisit any year prior to college. What I DO have a nostalgia for is the music, and how & why I was into it. Agent Orange was one of SEVERAL artists my great friend Mike Smith (not his real name … actually it's totally his real name) got me into, along with U2, Violent Femmes, Husker Du, even Bowie. Mike and the music we listened to served BOTH of the above purposes: he & they gave me a sense of belonging, of not being alone in my quirky & edgy & soft & eclectic tastes; and they also helped me to define all those individualistic qualities for myself. I was an academic star & music/theater performer on the surface, but deep down I was a rage-filled, confused, anti-social, sex-crazed teen, trying so hard to both acknowledge and suppress all that all at once. It sucked – thus why I don't care to revisit the era. But as with SO MANY eras, the music that comforted and defined and saved me will always be precious. Oh yeah, so the actual music. They were one of the first surf punk bands, straight out of Southern Cal. Their name shows how early they formed (1979), as the Viet Nam War was still a HUGE presence at the time. Surf punk is still a vibrant thing in 2020 (Wavves anyone?), and a whole bunch of non-punk bands have incorporated it into their shite as well. To be able to combine the bright ebullience of surf rock with the dark power of punk is a great thing, and again up my alley because of the chiaroscuro-ness of it. I've done a good handful of songs like this, but the OBVIOUS CHOICE for this week's Nick/REC song is an ACTUAL AGENT ORANGE COVER. From this here album, the breakout hit “In Your Dreams Tonight”. I took it in a shoegaze downbeat emo direction, cuz ain't no reason to recreate an absolute classic: REC - “In Your Dreams Tonight” (from the album Syzygy for the Weird) Other than that track and “It's In Your Head”, I can't begin to pick favorites. The whole album works for me. Do you have any experience with surf punk or earlier surf rock or Cali music or punk of any kind? Or what was the music that helped get you through high school or some other tough time in your life? Discuss dammit! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nick-dematteo/support

Weekly Podcast from Cornerstone Church, North Gower, Ontario. www.knowgrowshow.ca https://knowgrowshow.online.church/ The Passage: Psalm 131 The One Thing: A song to lead you into contentment Would you say that you are content? Share what areas of life you are least content in? Why do you think the Psalmist suggests that the opposite of pride (131:1) is contentment (131:2)? When following Christ, does WHO I AM flow out of WHAT I DO, or does WHAT I DO flow out of WHO I AM? What is your response to hearing about “the Mother heart of God”? Can you think of any other verses that describe God in mother-like or feminine terms? Listen to Kate's words about her weaned son: “I'm still kind of his gateway to everything else in the world and he interprets his world through the way I react to him”. How might her words be useful in helping us relate to God?

This week on the pod, I'm like Denis Nedry getting attacked by that umberlla dinosaur in Jurassic Park in that "I have NOTHING on me" I have prepared very little. What I DO have though, is a scathing criticism of those thirsty T-Birds in Grease, a boatload of puns about Chris Evans penis and news on my new hot tasty bod, since hitting rock bottom with the chinese last week.

"Praise is What I Do" is a virtual bible study lesson that talks about praise being personal, being focused and being inclusive. Do you only praise God when things are going well in your life? Take a listen! (This is a virtual bible study and may contain names of members watching as Pastor greets or communicates with them.)
S=Something on my Heart Start by commenting on comments 2 weeks ago about Q and Nesare Gesara. Will say a few comments about Q Anon tonight and will say something about Nesara Gesara at a later date). I don't want to spend much time on either topic because I feel they are outside of the purpose of this podcast and you don't tune in to hear about these topics, but since I brought it up, let me finish my thought. For those of you not familar with Q....There's a movement that's very excited about Q and I feel that this movement is misguided and should avoided by Christians. Based on what I've learned about it, I believe that Satan is using Q to pretend to be the light overcoming darkness when in actually Q may make spiritual comments but it's more rooted in New Age philosophy than Christianity and I think it's from the Devil. This conclusion I've come to further strengthens my ongoing journey toward focusing more on God and His Word and less on politics. The problems of this world will not be solved by either political party. Q is not our savior. Trump is not our savior. Only Jesus Christ is our Savior and there's a big risk by focusing too much on politics that we make idols out of our government and our government leaders. Am I saying don't be aware of what's going on in the world? No. I'm saying don't be obsessed as I have in the past and don't put your trust in men, trust in Jesus. - Make It Happen and Make a Mess-I’ve tried to control circumstances , not by physical might or financial influence which is what I often think of when I think of as control, but by my words both verbally and written through emails. True personally and professionally. It hit me in a conversation with my wife where I was clearly trying to avoid responsibility for something that happened in my past that had significant negative long lasting consequences and she helped me see through the lies the devil had been feeding me so I could see how I had gone off half-cocked many times in the past at key times and situations and tried to change people’s minds toward what I thought was right and toward an action or way of thinking I thought others should have and the results were all bad, not just bad but in a long lasting way, seemingly unrestorable way. As I thought through this later and prayed about it, I realized I had make this mistake in so many critical areas of my life and the results were all bad. Relationships, sex, finances, trying to find someone to mentor, doing ministry, trying to change the minds of friends and family members around spiritual and political ideas, aspects of how I've gone about this podcast, even going back to how I went about choosing my college degree and career. I've heard the phrase that we should pray like it's all up to God, and work and act like it's all up to us. I don't like that saying. I think that it weakens the power of prayer and the trust we have in God and tends to make prayer a check the box activity but what we're really putting our trust in is ourselves. There's another old saying "The road to hell is paved with good intentions" which sometimes is followed by "The road to heaven is paved with good works". The second part of that is not accurate beacuse we are saved by grace and not by works, but I don't like the first part of that phrase either. It implies that we should act on doing something worthwhile and not just intend to do it. I think there's some truth in that, we shouldn't put off actions that God wants us to do, we shouldn't procastinate and by lazy. But I'm thinking of that phrase in a different light. The road to Hell, or you might say the road to death and misery, can be paved with wrong actions that had what we thought were good intentions. Pastor Adam Cook at my church had a great sermon today about the Power of Saying No. Here are a few bullet points from his sermon. Behind every wise "No" there is a much better "Yes". I bet your biggest regret is from a time when you said "yes" when you should've said "no". As your heart becomes devoted to God and His Truth, you will begin to know what to say "yes" to and what to say "no" to. If you want to have a life full of Godly reward instead of regret, you must develop a heart of integrity that only comes by knowing and living in God's truth. Three areas where you must repeatedly say "No" are 1. Sexual Misconduct 2. Relational overload 3. Causes outside your calling. Now this last section about the 3 areas gets a little off track from the point I'm trying to make in this Selah episode, though I'm making a note to dig into these 3 topics in more depth in future Selah episodes because they are issues all men deal with. What I DO want to draw from Pastor Adam's message is this idea that our focus should be on devoting ourselves to God and His truth, to read the Bible and pray regularly, and by doing so, over time, we will develop a heart of integrity that will allow us to know what to say "yes" to and what to say "no" to. Back to what I started talking. Prov 3:5-6 NKJV sayd "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall [b]direct your paths." Most of us are familiar with those verses. Lately I've been trying to read the context around famous verses like this one, and I like verse that immediately follows this, it says "7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil." Proverbs 17:28 NKJV "Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; When he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive." Next time you catch yourself saying or thinking “Something’s got to be done about this “-red flag, press the pause button, and pray. Think about these questions often used by journalists when telling a story, sometimes referred to as the 5 W's and an H: who, what, when, where, and why and how. I think all of these are relavant except maybe "where". : 1. What is it you think needs to be changed? Does it really need to be changed? If so, Why? Also, what is the consequence you think will come from the action you're considering taking? What unintended consequence might come instead? Who should do that thing? Don’t assume it’s you. How should it be done? With an impersonal email to a group of people or should it be a 1:1 conversation in person or by phone? And finally "when"? Is this really urgent, or might it be better to wait, to allow you time to pray and hear from God and perhaps later think differently and perhaps be less emotionally driven. Think about people you know personally that you truly respect, did they do some amazing or shocking thing in a moment of time or did they live out a virtuous, humble, modest, loving life consistently A couple final thoughts on this. First, if you've already messed up, repent. Say you're sorry to the person or person you affected if appropriate, and say sorry to God, and mean it. You may have heard that repent has more to do with going another direction than it does with saying you're sorry. As my Pastor said this morning, you'll have plenty of opportunities to be tempted in the future, opportunities to get it right, so focus on those not on the past. My final thought is that there are some inherently impersonal communication tools that are commonly used that have unique hazards associated with them, most notably email, texting, and use of social media. Starting with this episode, in the H or Handy Tips section I'm going to begin sharing lessons I've learned about properly using email in the workplace that I think you'll really find helpful E = Example of faith at work He chose David his servant and took him from the sheep pens; he brought him from tending ewes to be shepherd over his people Jacob— over Israel, his inheritance. He shepherded them with a pure heart and guided them with his skillful hands.-Psalm 78:70-72-CSB L=Logos- Work verse Listen and hear my voice; pay attention and hear what I say. When a farmer plows for planting, does he plow continually? Does he keep on breaking up and working the soil? When he has leveled the surface, does he not sow caraway and scatter cumin? Does he not plant wheat in its place, barley in its plot, and spelt in its field? His God instructs him and teaches him the right way. Caraway is not threshed with a sledge, nor is the wheel of a cart rolled over cumin; caraway is beaten out with a rod, and cumin with a stick. Grain must be ground to make bread; so one does not go on threshing it forever. The wheels of a threshing cart may be rolled over it, but one does not use horses to grind grain. All this also comes from the Lord Almighty, whose plan is wonderful, whose wisdom is magnificent. - Isaiah 28:23-29 - NIV -I came across this long passage this morning which I believe is saying that God does not leave us guessing as to how to go about our daily tasks and we should seek his will in everything and not do things by our own power and understanding A= announcements thinking about retreat next year at our ranch, Spring - sleep under the stars, still have comforts, email with interests Promo for Metal Talk “"The Classic Christian Rock podcast by WildMan & Steve encompasses all a Christian Music fan would want in a podcast. Today's tip is to use the "do not reply" option when accepting an email invite. If you use Microsoft Outlook at your work, which most of us do, did you know that when you receive an email invite to a meeting, and in the email it seemingly gives you just 3 options 1. Accept 2. Reject 3. Tentative. There are actually more options. If you select the drop down arrow on the right side of the "Accept" button (I believe true for the other 2 buttons as well), you can choose the "do not reply" option, which means that the person who sent you an invite will have it noted in their calendar meeting that you accepted the meeting, and if they select the tracking option for that meetint they'll see that you accepted, but they will NOT receive an email stating that you accepted the meeting. Just like most of us complain about paying too many taxes, most of us would also agree we get too many emails. This is one small way you reduce the number of unecessary emails in someone else's inbox.

Walter Mosley, legendary author of almost sixty books and novels, including “Trouble is What I Do”--co-founder of Crime Writers of Color--is interviewed by Robert Justice. WalterMosley.com CrimeWritersofColor.com
Here’s a likely scenario: Someone recently offered you sourdough starter and you thought “I love sourdough! Why not? How hard can it be?” Then, you start reading and get overwhelmed. Don’t toss out that starter just yet. This guide to getting started with starter can help. (A note from Regan: Before you even start reading, I have one piece of advice that will both save your sanity and ensure you have the most successful baking experience possible. WEIGH YOUR INGREDIENTS. Seriously. A kitchen scale isn’t expensive and it’s invaluable when it comes to getting ratios right… not only in feeding your sourdough starter but also baking in general. This is the kitchen scale I use, but any kitchen scale will work.) Sourdough baking has always been of interest to hardcore bakers. But its recent surge in popularity (due in large part to the excess amount of time we have at home coupled with a nationwide shortage of yeast in supermarkets) has everyone and their neighbor (from a safe six feet away) either starting a starter or thinking about it. Rather than starting a starter from scratch, you may be lucky enough to score some from a friend. The only question is what do you do with a sourdough starter once you have it? Since there’s no manual for What To Expect When You’re Expecting A Sourdough Starter, I wrote this post to help. Am I a sourdough expert? 100% NO. This is a new baking experience for me, too. I’ve been baking FOR YEARS (check out my Everyday Baking e-book). But sourdough is a new challenge. If you want to learn from the experts, go straight to King Arthur Flour’s tutorials. But if you’re like me, you may actually need a little remediation BEFORE even consulting the experts. That’s what this post is all about. First Step: Ask when the Sourdough Starter was last fed If you get your starter from someone who is actively baking, it’s likely that it was fed within the last 24 hours. This is important. Starter that’s going to be used soon for baking should be “fed and ripe” (which essentially means that it’s been sitting out at room temperature, growing & bubbling and has been fed within the last 24 hours at least.) If the Sourdough Starter is NOT ripe or hasn’t been recently fed… You’ll need to feed it for at least a day, maybe more (I’ll explain this more below) to get it happy enough to yield good bread. How do I know when my Sourdough Starter is ready? In general, you’re looking for it to double in size between feedings. (Opinions differ as to whether or not this is really necessary, but my experience with my starter is that it’s a good indicator of sourdough starter health. When I wasn’t seeing mine double, I had some failed loaves.) It’s helpful to mark on the vessel you’re keeping your Sourdough Starter in where it is after you feed it. It will rise and then fall. By marking it you can get a good sense of how far it’s risen. I’ve also observed that my Sourdough Starter baked well when it was the consistency of something similar to Elmer’s glue (the old school white stuff, not that new-fangled gel stuff… obviously.) If your starter is really watery, even if it’s bubbly, it’s probably not strong enough yet to bake with. How often do I have to feed my Sourdough Starter? If your sourdough starter is sitting out on the counter, I’d say at least every 24 hours. If you’re trying to get it going again after a stint in the ‘fridge, maybe as often as every 12 hours. I’m learning sourdough is more art and less science than regular baking. Things like room temperature and the natural microbiome of your kitchen seem to influence it as well. So don’t be discouraged if yours is sluggish. With care, you can get it going. How long can you store Sourdough Starter in the fridge without feeding it? Most sources say about a week. I’ve kept my “sourdough discard” in the fridge for about a week and it was still churning along at the end of the week. I pulled some out to start it up again and had no issues. It made a beautiful loaf after a couple of days of feeding. What is Sourdough discard? When you feed your starter, you’ll discard some of it to make room for the feed. This is perhaps the most confusing part to read about online. Advice is all over the place on when to discard and how much. What I Do (based mostly on King Arthur Flour tutorials) is reserve 4 ounces by weight (113 g or about 1/2 cup) to keep as my ongoing sourdough starter, “discarding” whatever is left (I don’t actually discard it; I store it in the fridge since flour is in short supply. See below “What else can I do with sourdough discard?”) To the 4 ounces (113 g or about 1/2 cup) of reserved sourdough starter, I add 4 ounces by weight (113 g or about 1 cup) of all-purpose or bread flour + 4 ounces by weight (113 g or about 1/2 cup) of not cold, not hot water. (See below for tips about water.) Summary: 4 oz reserve + 113 g water + 113 g flour = feeding your sourdough What can I make with Sourdough Discard? I’m making a ton of this Chocolate Chip Banana Bread. It’s awesome, if I do say so myself. King Arthur has a collection of recipes for discard, but I think pancakes are probably the most popular. If the Starter is ripe and has been recently fed… You can proceed to baking, but first… …you need to determine what type of sourdough bread you want to bake. I learned VERY quickly that while I’m a proficient baker, I’m a novice when it comes to sourdough. Sourdough is a subset of yeast-risen breads that can seem really complicated and overwhelming at first (in my opinion). But it doesn’t have to be. You can ease into sourdough baking (like I’m doing) by starting with something simple, like my Easy Sourdough Sandwich Bread. While the Easy Sourdough Sandwich Bread recipe above won’t yield one of those artisanal boules like these… These are various Sourdough Boules I made using this King Arthur Flour’s Extra-Tangy Sourdough Recipe …it does yield a soft, slightly-tangy sandwich bread that’s easy to cut, toasts up beautifully and makes a wonderful sandwich bread. It also uses less flour than the traditional sourdough boules, so if it’s your first time working with sourdough, you won’t be risking as much flour if you happen to have an unsuccessful first attempt. (Although, with a good starter and being mindful of the measurements and times stated above in the recipe, I can almost guarantee success!) Once you’ve made a successful loaf or two of my Easy Sourdough Sandwich Bread, you may want to try your hand at the more traditional, artisan breads. I plan to stick with this Extra Tangy Sourdough recipe. It worked really well, so why mess with success? But if you want to explore and find a different sourdough recipe, by all means, do! There are a bazillion sourdough recipes out there. I trust King Arthur Flour the most, though, when it comes to baking. So if you want to be sure you’re using a tried and true recipe, I’d recommend choosing one of their sourdough recipes. I also recommend watching this video once you’ve progressed a little in your sourdough experience. This type of tutorial is invaluable when you’re ready to take it to the next level. But be warned, if you’re just getting started, it might overwhelm you. Other Sourdough Starter Tips There are a lot of factors that can influence the health of a sourdough starter, ranging from flour choice to room temperature, to water quality. What I’ve shared here are best practices that seem to help the health of my sourdough starter. Use filtered water that’s been sitting out uncovered at least overnight. Tap water seems to make my starter sluggish apparently from trace amounts of chlorine. You can also use distilled water if you have it. Use unbleached flour if possible. Ideally, whole grain works best to “start” a starter and occasionally feeding it with whole-grain seems to be recommended as well. But don’t give up or fail to start baking if all you have is beached, all-purpose. It will work, too. Store your starter in glass, not plastic or stainless steel. Keep it loosely covered at all times. Those little yeast buggers need some room to breathe. I hope this helps. Again, I’m no expert. But I’ve clocked enough hours taking care of my Alaskan sourdough starter that I feel like I’m at least qualified to give you a little neighborly advice. Come to think of it. I wish we were neighbors so I could give you some fresh sourdough starter, too. Happy Baking. ~Regan

Lynsey Addario is a Pulitzer Prize-winning American photojournalist and New York Times bestselling author who regularly works for The New York Times, National Geographic, and Time Magazine. Lynsey began photographing professionally for the Buenos Aires Herald in Argentina in 1996 with no previous photographic training. In the late 1990s, she began freelancing in New York City for Associated Press, where she worked consistently for three years before moving to New Delhi, India, to cover South Asia for the Chrstian Science Monitor, The Boston Globe, and Houston Chronicle. In 2000, Lynsey first travelled to Afghanistan to document the life and oppression of women living under the Taliban, and made three separate trips to the country under Taliban rule before September 11, 2001. Over the past 15 years, Lynsey has covered every major conflict and humanitarian crises, including Afghanistan, Iraq, Darfur, Libya, Syria, Lebanon, South Sudan, Somalia, and Congo. In 2015 she released a New York Times best-selling memoir, It's What I Do, which chronicles her personal and professional life as a photojournalist and which was quickly optioned by Warner Bros. studios and slated to be a Steven Speilberg production starring jennifer lawrence but has now morphed into a directed by Ridley Scott production starring Scarlett Johansson. Lynsey has been the recipient of numerous international awards throughout her career, and in 2015, American Photo Magazine named Lynsey one of the five most influential photographers of the past 25 years, writing that “Addario changed the way we saw the world’s conflicts.” In 2009, she was awarded a prestigious MacArthur Fellowship, for which she received a professional stipend from 2010 to 2015. She was part of the New York Times team to win the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting for her photographs in ‘Talibanistan,’ published in the New York Times Magazine. In November 2015, she was awarded the Excellence in International Reporting Award from the International Center for Journalists in Washington, DC, a Gaudium award from The Breukelein Institute in New York, and the el Mundo Journalism award in Barcelona, Spain. In 2016, Lynsey was part of the New York Times team nominated for an Emmy Award for her collaboration in the The Displaced series for the New York Times Magazine, a reportage documenting the lives of three children displaced from war in Syria, Ukraine, and South Sudan. She was the recipient of the Overseas Press Club's Oliver Rebbot award for 'Best Photographic Reporting from Abroad in Magazines and Books,' for her series Veiled Rebellion, an intimate look at the lives of Afghan Women. Her new photobook Of Love And War, which represents a career retrospective to-date, was recently published by Penguin Random House. In episode 096, Lynsey discusses, among other things: The situation in Yemen News from Hollywood on the forthcoming movie of her memoir It's What I Do Writing the memoir and why she didn’t worry about her writing skills The new photobook Of Love And War and how she went about editing from a million photos Her upbringing as the youngest of four girls in a ‘loud, crazy, eccentric’ Italian-American family Her tendency for self-criticism Madonna, Salgado, Bebeto Matthews and early career inflection points India, Afghanistan, Pakistan and 9/11 Why she didn’t tell anyone she was pregnant and the way people react once you’re a mother. It is the one place I’m fully present with whoever is in front of my lens, and I’m in the moment. And I can’t really say that about many other places.”
Often focusing on armed conflict, human rights issues, and women's roles in traditional societies, Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Lynsey Addario's work regularly appears in The New York Times, National Geographic, and Time. She is also the author of It's What I Do, ''an unflinching memoir'' (The Washington Post) illustrated with her photography about the uncompromising pursuit of truth and her fight to be taken as seriously as her male colleagues amid every major theater of war of the early 21st century, including Afghanistan, the Congo, and Libya. Of Love & War is a collection of more than 200 photos from far-flung and under-publicized corners of the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa. Watch the video here. (recorded 10/30/2018)
You've probably seen the photographs that Lynsey Addario has taken, even if you don't necessarily know her name. For more than 20 years, she’s covered life in conflict zones around the world, from Afghanistan under the Taliban and the U.S. invasion of Iraq and its aftermath, to the genocide in Darfur and maternal death in the Philippines—too much suffering, in too many places, to name, or even imagine. But in her images, Addario captures the small joys, too, of the ordinary experiences lived between the cracks of war: children playing, young couples getting married, births, deaths, cooking, going to the movies, even sleeping. In the contrast between these ordinary moments and their extraordinary, often brutal circumstances, Addario manages the impossible, and holds together all the fragments of human life she's witnessed in her two decades of conflict photography.Visit our episode page for a slideshow of Lynsey Addario’s work.Go beyond the episode:Lynsey Addario’s Of Love and WarThe New York Times cover story about the U.S.-sponsored war in Yemen, with Addario’s photographs (and a note from the writer, Robert F. What I Do and Why I Do It One of my awesome clients asked me to do a podcast on my least favorite topic to talk about....ME. They wanted something they could share with people that would quickly explain what I do and why I do it. Topics Discussed in this episode: 1. Who am I? 2. What do I do? 3. Why I do it. 4. 80% Mindset 20% Mechanic 5. Why all weight loss programs including mine will fail you. If you are inspired and motivated by my message and energy, I'd love it if you'd share the information about the show with your friends. Together I know we can build a culture of like-minded, purpose-driven humans that are focused on being our best selves.
It's the most honest and real and raw show yet to date. OMG, here we go.So, this episode is kind of a biggie. There are a lot of pieces of my own shadow that I've been afraid to own and share with you. Lynsey Addario is an award-winning American photojournalist who contributes regularly to The New York Times, National Geographic, and Time Magazine. She’s documented both headline news and intimate stories all around the word. In Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Libya she has given us an up-close view of war and revolution. She’s brought us stories of Maternal Mortality in Sierra Leone, sexual assault in Madagascar, rape in the DRC, heroin addiction in Afghanistan, and life before and after the Taliban. Her memoir, titled “It’s What I Do" recounts over 20 years of becoming one of our most renowned photojournalists. It was acquired by Warner Brothers and Steven Spielberg is expected to direct the film. Jennifer Lawrence has been cast to portray Lynsey - and we talk about that in this episode. Also in this episode, we also talk about courage on the front lines, the risks and trauma associated with her work, respecting cultures that aren’t her own, how she makes a living and how she manages her time.

Today’s Lively Show is answering the number one question I’ve been asked in 2017: How do you get into alignment? Today’s episode is answering this question and also addressing the element of alignment that I was missing earlier this week, which made it harder to get into alignment at that point in time. “It's safe and OK for you to relax and take in that all those things that happened, they're over and you don't have to be stuck there. ” ~from How to Wrap Up Loose Ends of 2016 and Start the New Year Fresh! By Tapas Fleming, Founder TAT® I declare that I DISLIKE New Year's resolutions. And I dislike the pervasive marketing message “New Year, New You” even MORE! What was wrong with the OLD me??? What I DO like is opportunities to be reflective, fresh starts, setting intentions and creating visions. I like getting really quiet and listening to my own inner wisdom guide voice, taking a deep breath and taking a step in a new direction. I have some favorite New Year rituals that have replaced resolutions (that never really seem to stick anyway). And because one of the themes of The Creative Impostor is community, I decided to crowdsource some new new year rituals and exercises share with you and shake things up for 2017. My Favorite Ritual: Gratitude 108 Take a sheet of paper or your journal and number it from 1 to 108.Or better yet, get a preprinted sheet here (because it takes a long time to write 108 numbers)! Write down (without stopping) 108 things for which you are grateful. It's just like a mad-lib full of nouns: could be people, places, things, ideas, experiences — just keep writing until you reach 108. If you get stuck, just think of any small thing that has touched you in the year. And when you reach the end, sit quietly, take a few deep breaths and notice how you feel. A woman in complete service to what she does, who is even willing to die for her work, definitely fits the archetype of the heroine. Lynsey Addario is a photojournalist who has photographed women under the Taliban, documented misogyny in the Congo, and been on the ground in Afghanistan after 9/11. From capturing the lives of transgender prostitutes in New York to her continued work on Syrian refugees and those displaced by war, Lynsey seeks to do justice for her subjects by capturing the true essence of their humanity. Lynsey is also a New York Times bestselling author. Her memoir, It’s What I Do: A Photographer’s Life of Love and War, is so filled with vivid details and vulnerability, including her very close call as a hostage in Libya, that Steven Spielberg will soon be directing a movie based on her life starring Jennifer Lawrence. Lynsey’s spirit and drive will inspire you to recognize the unique impulses and passions we all have inside of us. Show Notes:-Growing up with parents who encouraged her to express herself, follow her dreams, and learn things for herself. [4:19]-Receiving her first camera, becoming a self-taught photographer, and breaking into the business (which involved sneaking a shot of Madonna). [8:10]-How Lynsey found her calling early on, and the inspiring purpose that drives her. [12:53]-How she furthered her career by asking for an advance on the wedding she didn’t intend to have. [15:31]-Bringing milk and cookies to transgender prostitutes: Lynsey’s method of getting to know people before photographing them. [17:20]-Going to Afghanistan as an unmarried, American female photographer during a time when photography was outlawed by the Taliban. Bacon, red meat and all processed meats cause cancer now. I chew the (bacon) fat with Tom about the outlook of the Minnesota Fightin' Vikings, why the Stefon Diggs-vs-Odell Beckham Jr will be a debate soon, a remembrance of the late Flip Saunders, a beat writer's take on Torii Hunter, and why the Vikings need to BRING BROCK VEREEN ON THE ACTIVE ROSTER AND START HIM OPPOSITE OF HARRISON.Warning: This episode is primarily Vikings based but we venture off quite a bit into Wolves and Twins. All that and other "We started Jim Bob Cooter" nonsense on this edition of the Purple FTW! War photographer Lynsey Addario on her incredible life of love and war. Lynsey Addario was just finding her way as a photographer when September 11th changed the world. One of the few photojournalists with experience in Afghanistan, she gets the call to return and cover the American invasion. She makes a decision she would often find herself making—not to stay home, not to lead a quiet or predictable life, but to risk her life, to set out across the world, and to make a name for herself. It’s What I Do follows a course unavoidable for Addario—from her first camera and the pictures it inspired, to early years as a street photographer and the inspiration she found in the work of Sebastião Salgado. Photography becomes a way for her to travel with a purpose—a singular ambition that shapes and drives her. 5x15 brings together five outstanding individuals to tell of their lives, passions and inspirations. ...And Content and Metrics. In my last solo show I shared with you guys that there were a couple of opportunities for me to collaborate with people. Well... I almost jumped the gun on yet another collaboration with someone else! I know, I know. We both got caught up in the moment, sat with it for a few days and when we had our next call both decided that it was a complete distraction and NOT the direction either of us wanted to be heading in. Which brings me to the IDEAS part of this episode. As an entrepreneur we're NEVER lacking ideas... in fact, there's often a plethora of them that tend to be more of a distraction than anything else. The crazy thing is that for me, I allow these distractions in, even though I know in my GUT that I need to stay focused. What I've learned about these distractions lately is that it's more a part of my process than anything else. And I don't buy into every distraction. I usually have a few different things going on at any given time. I've read all the books (The ONE thing, Essentialism, etc.... which btw are GREAT books), but I also know myself and how I operate. I have two VERY clear priorities in my business right now. And then there are a handful of 'side' projects that I have going for me. The difference with the side projects for "me" and the collaboration projects is that I'm not responsible to anyone else for the work that does (or doesn't) get done on these side projects. They're something I play with when I need a break from everything else I'm doing. When I want to 'play' with something that doesn't require me showing up as Kim Doyal. Part of my journey in ALL of this is to genuinely show up as myself, which I love (as scary as that can be). But it can also be a little tiring at times. When you make a conscious decision to put your name and face on things you want to do it in a way that serves your audience AND you. No one can do that 24/7. So what do you do with all these fantastic ideas? That's up to you. You need to figure out what works best for you and run with it. Here are a few things I do with these ideas: Here's what I DON'T do: Shift my priorities so any of my new 'ideas' overtake my focus and before you know it I'm exactly where I was a few months ago. I see this happen over and over and over again with people. What they're doing isn't working the way they want (hear producing the income they want) so they jump ship too early. Instead of tweaking and measuring what they're working on, they give up and jump into something else. There's also that entrepreneurial rush that kicks in when you come up with an idea that lights you up! And it's pretty addicting. Which is where the Content and Metrics come in. Unless you have an unlimited budget for advertising, you're going to have to create content. [tweet_box]"Unless you have an unlimited budget for advertising, you're going to have to create content."[/tweet_box] It's not just that 'content is king', like we've all heard over and over again. Content is REQUIRED. Content isn't just about SEO, indexing and keywords. It's about building relationships and trust in a way that makes people want to do business with you. It's providing value before people hand over their hard earned cash. Lately I've seen a LOT of discussion around people who aren't going to keep giving things away. Some think the 'free model' doesn't work anymore, do people really care about opt-ing in for your free guide, ebook, cd, audio, course, etc.? I don't have the answer to that (nor do I care to get into a discussion or debate around it. Not because it's not a worthwhile topic, I simply don't have the energy). What I DO know is that people who do content marketing RIGHT are killing it. Take a look at Dan Norris as an example (founder of WP Curve and author of The 7 Day Startup and newly released Content Machine). Dan literally is a machine when it comes to content (I'm hoping to have him...
