If I showed you some photos of yourself and asked you to pick out the one that most accurately represented what you really looked like – could you do it? Listen as I begin this episode by explaining why you most likely could not. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/06/150623200016.htm?utm_source=chatgpt.com Common knowledge is something that I know that you know, and you know that I know you know it! And so usually, we never discuss it. Sounds confusing but without common knowledge life would be amazingly difficult and tedious as you are about to discover when you listen to my conversation with Steven Pinker. Steven is a professor of psychology at Harvard University and is the author of 12 books. His latest is When Everyone Knows That Everyone Knows . . .: Common Knowledge and the Mysteries of Money, Power, and Everyday Life (https://amzn.to/46oYRdG). Some people are chronically late. It's as if they have a completely different attitude toward time. Yet their tardiness can infuriate people who are punctual and expect other people to be. Is it rudeness or is it just a different “time personality”? There was an interesting article about this in the New York Times not long ago that got quite a bit of attention. Joining me in this episode is the author of that article, Emily Laber-Warren. She heads the health and science reporting program at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York and has been a staff editor at Popular Science, The Sciences, Scientific American Mind, and Women's Health. View the Show Notes Page for This Episode Become a Member to Receive Exclusive Content Sign Up to Receive Peter's Weekly Newsletter In this special episode of The Drive, Peter hosts a strength and conditioning roundtable with three experts in the field—Gabrielle Lyon, Jeff Cavaliere, and Mike Boyle. Together they explore why maintaining muscle mass, strength, and power is essential for healthspan and longevity, and examine how resistance training supports metabolic resilience and injury prevention across the lifespan. The conversation covers practical strategies for getting started and staying consistent, the importance of a protein-centered diet tailored to age and activity level, and approaches to resistance training for peri- and post-menopausal women—including tendon care and optimal programming. They debate single-leg training versus heavy bilateral lifts, share knee-friendly lower-body options, and highlight exercises that belong in the “graveyard” due to poor risk-reward ratios. Finally, the group discusses youth sports specialization, emphasizing the long-term value of variety for developing lifelong athletes. We discuss: Personal career journeys and philosophies of each guest that shaped their approaches to strength, conditioning, and lifelong health [3:30]; Why so few people engage in resistance training despite its proven health benefits [8:30]; Mike's low-stress, high-consistency method for training beginners to resistance training [18:45]; How resistance training enhances metabolic health and body composition even in lean, highly active endurance athletes [25:30]; The dominant role of nutrition in shaping physique and achieving low body fat, the synergistic effect of resistance training, and the unrealistic expectations about muscle growth and fat loss [28:30]; Why Jeff advocates for five meals a day, and why meal timing matters less than overall protein intake and caloric consistency [38:00]; Optimizing protein for every stage of life: quality, quantity, and guidelines for diverse diets and body types [44:15]; The advantages of unilateral lower-body training over heavy bilateral lifts: impact on strength, athleticism, recovery, and functional movement [51:45]; Rethinking heavy squats and deadlifts: risk-reward, aging bodies, and the case for reverse lunges and other single-leg alternatives [1:01:15]; Adapting with age: Gabrielle on injuries, hip dysplasia, and the shift to smarter training [1:10:15]; Exercises that belong in the “iron graveyard”: unnecessarily risky exercises and their safer alternatives [1:19:15]; The downside of early sports specialization in children and the long-term benefits of encouraging kids to play multiple sports [1:25:00]; Advice for preventing an Achilles injury: calf strength, ankle mobility, and listening to pain signals [1:33:15]; Shoulder pain: how to keep training the upper body when shoulder pain limits pressing movements [1:40:45]; Effective strength training strategies for women before, during, and after the menopausal transition [1:43:15]; Best practices for strength training and athletic development in children, and the pitfalls of early sports specialization [1:50:30]; How to foster healthy habits and an interest in fitness beyond playing sports [2:00:00]; Something each guest has changed their mind about in the last five years [2:04:00]; and More. Guest Bio: Jess Connolly is a woman who wants to leave her generation more in awe of God than she found it. She is passionate about family, God's Word, and seeing women take their place in the Kingdom. She's an author, a church leader, and a coach. Her books include You Are the Girl for the Job, Breaking Free from Body Shame, and her newest release, Tired of Being Tired. Jess is the founder of Go + Tell Gals and helped start She Reads Truth. She and her husband, Nick, planted Bright City Church in Charleston, South Carolina, where they live with their four children. Show Summary: It can be easy to struggle with body image, feeling like we're not enough, or feeling exhausted by our day-to-day life. Jess Connolly wants to recharge you and share how to shake off the shame! Join hosts Elisa Morgan and Eryn Eddy Adkins as they learn how to break free from shame during this God Hears Her conversation. Notes and Quotes: “I had this really strong understanding early on that the Gospel is the best thing about me. That people that had tidier lives still needed God, that the messy parts of my life did not disqualify me from His love, from ministry, from calling, from any of those things.” —Jess Connolly “I'm thankful for the victory and the vision that pain afforded me.” —Jess Connolly “If John says, ‘if the Son has set you free, you are free indeed,' how much of that do I get to experience here on earth? How much of that do I get to experience as it pertains to my body?” —Jess Connolly “If You created our bodies as good, do we spend the rest of our lives trying to make them good, or can we spend the rest of our lives agreeing that they're good? If so, what would that look like? What would it look like to stop trying to make my body good and instead just come into alignment with the truth that it already is? That's what breaking body shame is about for me.” —Jess Connolly “For many of us, we don't know where we end and where He begins. We don't know what we're responsible for and what He's responsible for. We've somehow bought this lie that we graduate from needing Him—but I don't want to get over that. I still want to be a girl that acknowledges that I need God.” —Jess Connolly Verses: 2 Corinthians 12:9 John 20:11-18 – Jesus appears to Mary Magdalene Luke 8:2 – Jesus healing Mary Magdalene Related Episodes: GHH Ep 146 – Reading Truth with Amanda Williams: https://godhearsher.org/podcast/reading-truth/ Links: Jess Connolly's Website: https://www.jessconnolly.com/ God Hears Her website: https://go.odb.org/ghh191 Subscribe to the God Hears Her YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@GodHearsHerODBM Share Your Story: https://godhearsher.org/share-your-story/

Dr. Daved Rosensweet is the Founder of The Menopause Method & I wonder, doctor https://iwonderdoctor.com/. Dr. Rosensweet graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1968. He has been in private medical practice since 1971. He teaches health professionals about the treatment of women in menopause with bio-identical hormones. Dr. Rosensweet is a nationally known lecturer and frequent presenter at A4M, a principal investigator for a scientific study of female hormones, the author of the books Menopause and Natural Hormones and Happy Healthy Hormones: How to Thrive in Menopause and the organizer of a National Summit Committee on the Treatment of Women in Menopause with Bio-Identical Hormones.Ever wondered why menopause and andropause feel like such a dramatic shift in your life? Dr. David Rosensweet reveals that our hormone levels peak at age 20 and decline continuously thereafter, affecting every cell, tissue, and organ in our bodies. This isn't just about hot flashes or erectile dysfunction – it's about your long-term health and independence. The conversation tackles one of medicine's most egregious failures: the false reporting of hormone therapy risks that scared millions away from treatment. What most people don't know is that the Women's Health Initiative study was retracted in 2017, acknowledging there was no increased risk of breast cancer, heart attacks, or strokes with hormone therapy. In fact, proper hormone optimization actually decreases these risks compared to going untreated.Dr. Rosensweet explains the science behind "Bi-Est" estrogen formulations (80% estriol/20% estradiol) that mimic young women's natural hormone balance, and why testosterone is crucial for both men and women to maintain muscle mass, bone density, and cognitive function. His perspective on the consequences of hormone deficiency is sobering – approximately 80% of nursing home residents are there due to the effects of low hormones, including sarcopenia, osteoporosis, and cognitive decline.Support the showPlease rate & review my podcast with a few kind words on Apple or Spotify. In this inspiring conversation, Cheryl shares: The journey behind her new book, The Black Family Who Built America: The McKissicks, Two Centuries of Daring Pioneers. How her mother courageously took over the family business after tragedy struck. Lessons from navigating a male- and white-dominated industry while building relationships and leading with integrity. The power of resilience, prayer, and community when starting from scratch in New York. Personal stories of overcoming health scares and why legacy and family history matter more than ever. Download my Ultimate Creatine Guide for Women before listening so you can read along and get the most out of the episode. You know that feeling when you discover something that completely changes your perspective on health? That's exactly what happened to me with creatine. For years, I avoided this supplement because of outdated misconceptions, but the research on creatine benefits for women over 40 has blown me away. Here's the reality: we actually need creatine MORE than men do, yet most of us are walking around severely deficient. We have less muscle mass to store creatine, we're not eating nearly enough animal protein to get adequate amounts from our diet, and we're dealing with unique stressors like hormonal fluctuations and sleep deprivation that drain our energy reserves even faster. When I finally tried the right form of creatine - and yes, the form matters tremendously - it was like flipping an energy switch I didn't even know existed. No more afternoon coffee crashes, better workouts, sharper mental focus, and for the first time in my life, I could travel internationally without jet lag. What you'll learn: Why women over 40 are walking around creatine-deficient - and how this impacts everything from your energy levels to your brain function The shocking difference between creatine monohydrate and creatine HCL - one causes bloating and GI issues in 76% of women, the other doesn't How to calculate your optimal creatine dosage based on your stress levels, workout intensity, and life demands (hint: it's way less than you think) The brain-boosting benefits beyond muscle building - from reducing depression when combined with SSRIs to helping with sleep deprivation and cognitive decline Why adding taurine and magnesium creates an amplification effect that makes your workouts more powerful and recovery faster Real-world success stories from women who've transformed their energy, athletic performance, and overall vitality The simple math that proves most women aren't getting enough creatine from diet alone - you'd need to eat a pound of raw meat daily Love the Podcast? #916 | Ed and Daniel pull apart United's chaotic victory over Chelsea – a game defined by red cards, questionable substitutions, but a result that eases the pressure on Ruben Amorim. We get into the impact of Casemiro's dismissal, the defensive approach that left United hanging on, and a set of substitutions that only made things worse. Up front, poor decision-making in the final third and muddled wing-back positioning are laid bare. There's bigger-picture chat too: United's midfield issues, waiting for new attacking signings to fully bed in, and the sight of ex-Reds thriving elsewhere. Plus: a nod to United Women's progress in Europe, a look ahead to fixtures coming up, and a brief chat about the financial fog that surrounds the club. Did you know that Mary Shelley was a teenager when she started writing Frankenstein in 1814? Or that England's most prolific goal scorer - man or woman - was superstar striker Lily Parr, who scored a staggering 997 goals between 1919 and 1951? When Kate Mosse launched the #WomenInHistory campaign, asking people to highlight women whose achievements have been overlooked by history, she received thousands of nominations from around the globe. The result is her new book, Feminist History For Every Day of the Year. In it, she celebrates the extraordinary achievements of activists, writers, scientists, politicians and others, some of whom are household names, and others who deserve to be better known. She sat down with broadcaster Shahidha Bari to share some of these incredible stories. They talked about the importance of putting women and girls back into history - including those with complicated or problematic views - and why rights are always fought for, never given, and need to be protected. Kate Mosse is a novelist and founder of the Women's Prize for Fiction and the Women's Prize for Non-Fiction. Feminist History For Every Day of the Year is out now. Learn more about your ad choices. Selling your business won't save you if you're not ready for what comes after, and most founders aren't. Less than 1% of women founders successfully exit their businesses. That story is changing, and Carrie Kerpen is leading the movement. In this episode of Your Next, I sit down with Carrie Kerpen, founder of The Whisper Group and a successful agency exit veteran, to explore how women are rewriting the rules of business, building companies designed to sell, and creating exits that unlock freedom, legacy, and purpose. We go deep into the reality of life after a big sale: the loss of identity, the challenges of integration, and the path to reclaiming power on your own terms. What if one introduction could change the entire trajectory of your career or someone else's? This week's episode is an invitation to reflect on the ripple effect of referrals, recommendations, and authentic support, especially among women in medicine. As women in medicine, we haven't always supported one another well. In honor of Women in Medicine Month, this episode is an encouragement to change that. I share how one beautiful moment of being recommended felt - a sense of deep gratitude, renewed purpose, and the powerful realization that women have the capacity to lift one another in ways that shift not just careers, but culture. Building circles of support can bring joy, meaning, and positive change into our personal and professional lives. Whether you're a natural connector or a quiet introvert, listen for practical ways to build deeper relationships, give generously, and receive with grace. Pearls of Wisdom: Referrals and recommendations aren't promotion, they're acts of trust, generosity, and cultural change. Supporting another woman in medicine creates ripple effects far beyond what you may see or know. Authentic connections are more impactful than loud visibility. One meaningful recommendation is powerful. Don't need to amplify everything. Simply share what you genuinely love and believe in. Deep, one-on-one conversations are as powerful and more meaningful than large-scale networking. Reflection Questions: Who is one woman in medicine you could lift up this week through a referral, recommendation, or kind word? How would it feel to give that kind of support freely, with love? What ripple effect might you create by sharing authentically the work of someone you admire? We close this episode with an invitation to become a connector. Even if you're an introvert, even if you're just starting out, one referral, one introduction, or one moment of amplifying someone else's light can change everything for that person - and for you! From Burnout to Bold: How GenX Women Can Reinvent Themselves w/Tina ColemanTina Coleman is the bold voice behind the upcoming book 50 Fabulous and Fuckable, a powerful guide that redefines what it means to be a woman at midlife. Her mission is to empower women approaching 50 and beyond to embrace reinvention, freedom, and unapologetic confidence while stepping into the most vibrant, authentic chapter of their lives. After more than two decades as a licensed massage therapist, Tina's career was abruptly cut short by a car accident. Instead of letting life's hardships define her, she chose to reinvent herself from the ground up. That reinvention began with traveling solo—an experience that opened her eyes to possibility, freedom, and courage. Solo travel became the catalyst that ultimately led her to move abroad, where she continues to embrace transformation and intentional living. Now, Tina shares her journey as living proof that it's never too late to create the life you want. Through her writing, speaking, and coaching, she inspires women to release burnout, overcome the weight of old narratives, and fully own their worth. She speaks openly about the challenges GenX women face—from shifting hormones and energy crashes to feeling invisible in a culture obsessed with youth—and flips the script into one of power, possibility, and abundance.Links:https://beacons.ai/transformbecourageoushttps://www.instagram.com/transform.be.courageous/?igsh=am9hdjVxOXV2d3h4&utm_source=qr#Tags:Author,Book Reviews,Growth Mindset,Midlife,Sobriety,Travel,Weight Loss,Women Empowerment,Writing A Book,From Burnout to Bold: How GenX Women Can Reinvent Themselves w/Tina Coleman,Live Video Podcast Interview,Podcast,InterviewSupport PEG by checking out our Sponsors:Download and use Newsly for free now from www.newsly.me or from the link in the description, and use promo code “GHOST” and receive a 1-month free premium subscription. The best tool for getting podcast guests:https://podmatch.com/signup/phantomelectricghostSubscribe to our Instagram for exclusive content:https://www.instagram.com/expansive_sound_experiments/Subscribe to our YouTube https://youtube.com/@phantomelectricghost?si=rEyT56WQvDsAoRprRSShttps://anchor.fm/s/3b31908/podcast/rssSubstackhttps://substack.com/@phantomelectricghost?utm_source=edit-profile-page
