On September fifth, nineteen eighty two, twelve year old Johnny Gosch walked out of his West Des Moines home before dawn to deliver newspapers and vanished without a trace. His case changed America forever, leading to the first missing child on a milk carton and landmark legislation that transformed how we handle abducted children.But the story most people know barely scratches the surface of what really happened.In this episode of The Redacted Report, we dig into the buried facts, the covered-up connections, and the questions that powerful people have spent four decades trying to silence.We begin with Police Chief Orval Cooney, the man tasked with finding Johnny. What most people don't know is that Cooney had a violent past, including a nineteen fifty one assault conviction. Just months before Johnny disappeared, eighteen of his own officers went on record accusing him of brutality, harassment, and drinking on duty. When volunteers searched for Johnny, witnesses say Cooney climbed onto a picnic table and told everyone to go home, calling the missing boy a damn runaway. He stonewalled the family at every turn until his sudden death in two thousand three, just as a lawsuit was about to expose what he knew. Then there's the newspaper itself. Johnny delivered papers for the Des Moines Register, the same company that employed Frank Sykora, who admitted to molesting at least seven paperboys, and Wilbur Millhouse, a former circulation manager found with a list of twenty two hundred boys' names when he was arrested. Millhouse reportedly told people for years that he knew who took Johnny and why. We examine the chilling prediction made two months before thirteen year old Eugene Martin vanished in nineteen eighty four. According to Noreen Gosch, a private investigator warned her another paperboy would be taken the second weekend of August on the south side of Des Moines. She passed this information to authorities. They did nothing. Eugene disappeared exactly when and where predicted. The episode explores the proof of life that emerged after Johnny's abduction. A confirmed sighting in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where investigators said a boy crying for help was positively identified as Johnny. A dollar bill with his authenticated signature surfacing in Sioux City three years later. Signs that Johnny was alive, somewhere, trying to send a message. We dive deep into the Franklin Credit Union scandal and the testimony of Paul Bonacci, who claimed he was forced to participate in Johnny's kidnapping. Bonacci knew physical details about Johnny that weren't public knowledge. A federal judge ruled his testimony truthful and awarded him one million dollars in a civil judgment. Yet police never interviewed him about the Gosch case.he investigation into Franklin led to tragedy. State investigator Gary Caradori was collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, building a case against powerful people. On July eleventh, nineteen ninety, his plane came apart in midair over an Illinois cornfield. He and his eight year old son were killed. His briefcase of newly obtained evidence was never recovered. A documentary about the scandal called Conspiracy of Silence was pulled from the Discovery Channel before it could air. We trace the trafficking network run by John David Norman, a career predator whose operations spanned decades. His thirty thousand customer index cards were sent to the State Department and destroyed. His associate Phillip Paske worked for John Wayne Gacy. Investigators following witness testimony found an abandoned Colorado ranch with a hidden underground chamber and children's initials carved into the walls. The episode covers Noreen Gosch's claim that Johnny visited her in nineteen ninety seven, fifteen years after his disappearance, and the mysterious envelope of photographs left on her doorstep in two thousand six showing bound and gagged children, one of whom she believes is her son. Johnny Gosch would be fifty five years old today. No arrests have ever been made. No body has ever been found. The West Des Moines Police Department still refuses to release their complete case file. Someone knows what happened that September morning. Someone drove the blue Ford Fairmont. Someone flicked that dome light three times. And someone has kept this secret for over four decades. El viernes pasado Netflix anunció un acuerdo para adquirir las divisiones de estudios de cine y televisión y el servicio de streaming HBO Max de Warner Bros por 72.000 millones de dólares, un importe que asciende a los 82.700 millones si incluimos la deuda. La transacción, en efectivo y acciones, valora cada acción de Warner Bros en 27,75 dólares, es decir, por encima de lo que se están pagando en el mercado. Esta operación, aprobada ya por los consejos de ambas compañías, se concretará tras la separación de los activos de redes de cable de Warner (CNN, TNT y Discovery Channel) que conformarán una nueva sociedad llamada Discovery Global. El acuerdo se materializará en unos meses cuando haya pasado el filtro regulatorio. El anuncio es un capítulo más una intensa batalla de ofertas iniciada en septiembre de este año, cuando Paramount Global, presidida por David Ellison, el hijo del dueño de Oracle, Larry Ellison, se ofreció a comprar la compañía en su totalidad. Today's guest is Maxime Chaya, Lebanon's foremost adventurer and the first person from his country to stand atop Mount Everest, which he summited in 2006. That Everest climb was actually featured on Discovery Channel's reality series "Everest: Beyond the Limit," but it was just one chapter in an extraordinary career of exploration.Max went on to complete the Seven Summits—the highest peak on every continent—and then pushed further, adding ski expeditions to the North and South Poles to achieve what's known as the Three Poles or the Explorer's Grand Slam .In 2013, he took to the ocean, rowing across the Indian Ocean with two crew mates and setting a Guinness World speed record in the process—covering over 5,800 kilometers in just under 58 days.But one of Max's most remarkable adventures came on two wheels. He and British ultra-runner Steve Holyoak completed not one, but two bikepacking expeditions across the Rub' al Khali—the Empty Quarter, the world's largest sand desert. Their first crossing in 2016 took them 1,500 kilometers from Abu Dhabi to Salalah, Oman in 21 days. They loved it so much they went back for more, this time riding 2,500 kilometers from Jeddah to Muscat over 33 days.Back home in Lebanon, Max continues to promote adventure sports throughout the region. Celebrating its 120th anniversary in 2021, Meguiar's,®Inc. has become one of the world's leading surface care product companies, providing highly specialized products for almost every conceivable type of surface. We describe our customers as "raving fans.” In the early years, Meguiar's Mirror Glaze polishes and waxes, intended for professional use, were primarily used by car manufacturers, car dealers, body shops and detailers. Most custom painters polished their customer's automobiles with Meguiar's products, so the majority of cars put on display in car shows reflected finishes achieved with the use of Meguiar's professional-line products. As car shows became prevalent in the 60's, those attending began to recognize that the use of Meguiar's polishes was the key to create brilliant, high-gloss finishes. Growing numbers of people began pressuring retailers to stock Meguiar's Mirror Glaze products. Compelled by the demands of these enthusiastic fans, the family formally introduced its Meguiar's brand of consumer automotive products in 1973, under the leadership of former Meguiar's, Inc. President, Barry Meguiar, the son of Malcolm Meguiar. Bryan Grieg Fry is an Associate Professor in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Queensland. Taking some proactive steps to care for yourself—such as getting good rest and keeping your mind clear—can truly make a significant difference in your happiness and productivity. Adopt the idea of "generals eat last" as your leadership guiding principle. As Tony beautifully shared, inspiring leaders always put their teams first, creating a warm environment full of trust and stability. When you focus on serving and supporting others, it gently builds loyalty and can significantly lift your team's performance. Embracing this approach can truly make your leadership journey more rewarding and fulfilling! Be open to new modalities of healing. Tony lived with PTSD for 30 years. He believed his anger and stress from his time in the military were a part of him and his life now. It wasn't until he stumbled across a new assistive technology that he learned that was not the case. Hailing from the central coast of New South Wales, Australia, Ross Clarke-Jones joined the ASP world tour in 1986, at age 19. He was good in the small waves that the tour typically competed in at that time. But when the surf jacked up to 20-plus feet in the 1986 Billabong Pro at Waimea Bay, Clarke-Jones heaved himself over leadges and exited the water as one of the world's great big waves surfers—and has held that position ever since. He's been a major force in nearly every Eddie, winning that coveted event in 2001. He's paddled Jaws, towed Mavericks, Nazare, and Shipstern Bluff, and pioneered several mutant, way-out-to-sea slabs. He was the subject of the 2006 documentary titled The Sixth Element: The Ross Clarke Jones Story, narrated by the late Dennis Hopper. He and Tom Carroll starred in Storm Riders, a big-wave surfing reality show on the Discovery Channel, which led to Storm Riders 3D, a feature-length documentary. This professorship is bestowed by the University of Missouri Board of Curators on the most outstanding scholars in the University of Missouri system. McManus is the first ever Missouri S&T faculty member in the humanities to be named Curators' Distinguished Professor. As one of the nation's leading military historians, and the author of fifteen well received books on the topic, he is in frequent demand as a speaker and expert commentator. In addition to dozens of local and national radio programs, he has appeared on Cnn.com, Fox News, C-Span, the Military Channel, the Discovery Channel, the National Geographic Channel, Netflix, the Smithsonian Network, the History Channel and PBS, among others. He also served as historical advisor for the bestselling book and documentary Salinger, the latter of which appeared nationwide in theaters and on PBS's American Masters Series. During the 2018-2019 academic year, he was in residence at the U.S. Naval Academy as the Leo A. Shifrin Chair of Naval and Military History, a distinguished visiting professorship. His current project is a major three volume history of the U.S. Army in the Pacific/Asia theater during World War II. He is the host of two podcasts, Someone Talked! in tandem with the National D-Day Memorial, and We Have Ways of Making You Talk in the USA alongside Al Murray and James Holland. John C. McManus is a native of St. Louis. He attended the University of Missouri and earned a degree in sports journalism. After a brief stint in advertising and sports broadcasting, he embarked on a literary and academic career. He earned an M.A. in American history from the University of Missouri and a Ph.D in American history and military history from the University of Tennessee. He participated in the University of Tennessee's Normandy Scholars program and, in the process, had an opportunity to study the battle first hand at the Normandy battlefields. At Tennessee he served as Assistant Director of the Center for the Study of War and Society, where he helped oversee a major effort to collect the first hand stories of American veterans of World War II. Making extensive use of this material, as well as sources from many other archives, he published two important books, The Deadly Brotherhood: The American Combat Soldier in World War II in 1998, and Deadly Sky: The American Combat Airman in World War II in 2000. Shortly after the publication of Deadly Sky he accepted a position as Assistant Professor of U.S. Military History at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (at the time known as University of Missouri-Rolla) where he now teaches courses on the Civil War, World War II, Vietnam, American Military History, and the American Combat Experience in the 20th Century. He is on the editorial advisory board for World War II magazine and Global War Studies. In 2004 he published a two volume series on the American role in the Battle of Normandy. The first book, The Americans at D-Day: The American Experience at the Normandy Invasion was released in June 2004. The second book, The Americans at Normandy: The Summer of 1944, the American War from the Beaches to Falaise was published in November 2004. In 2007-2008 he published four new books.
