The episode launches the Pride in Bruce series for Pride Month, celebrating LGBTQ+ stories and the ways Bruce Springsteen's music can be a lifeline. Host Jesse Jackson interviews Jason Bisogni, a Westchester, New York marketing professional and lifelong music fan, about his path into classic rock, his early concert experiences, and the moment he became a dedicated Springsteen fan after seeing the 1999 E Street Band reunion tour. Jason shares that he came out later in life (to two people at 39, more fully at 41 in 2021) and explains how Bruce's lyrics took on new meaning afterward, citing songs like “Darkness on the Edge of Town,” “Trapped,” “Living Proof,” and “Two Hearts.” He credits Bob Dylan's “It's All Over Now, Baby Blue” line “He not busy being born is busy dying” as pivotal, discusses chasing songs live, recounts meeting Bruce several times, and answers the “Thunder Road” question by saying Mary does not get in the car. 00:00 Pride in Bruce Intro 01:48 Meet Jesse and Jason 02:21 Jason's Music Roots 03:18 Family Soundtrack Growing Up 06:43 Wrestling Detour and WWE 11:45 Concerts That Sparked It 14:59 Finding Bruce Springsteen 17:29 First E Street Show Magic 19:34 Counting Shows and Fandom 20:48 Static Setlist Debate 24:25 Health, Travel, and Missing Shows 26:27 Bruce and Coming Out Journey 27:01 Coming Out With The Boss 29:32 Lyrics Hit Different Now 32:07 Gay Icon Podcast Picks 34:23 Forever Favorites Playlist 38:18 Born Or Busy Dying 41:04 Songs Still Chasing Live 43:24 Meeting Bruce Stories 48:25 Thunder Road Mary Debate 50:39 Gratitude Pride Month Wrap Learn more about your ad choices. On this week's episode of the podcast, Sina Azodi of the George Washington University joins Marc Lynch to discuss his book, Iran and the Bomb: The United States, Iran, and the Nuclear Question. The book shows that because the strategic logic of the nuclear program transcends the regimes type, dismantling the Iranian nuclear program is not viable policy option for the United States. Instead, the US must learn to live with a nuclear threshold state and make it a priority to keep Iranian capacity as far away from the bomb as possible. When Tina Roth Eisenberg moved to New York in 1999 as a new designer, she kept asking herself the same question: where are my people? Eighteen years ago, she answered it by starting Creative Mornings—a free breakfast lecture series that has since grown into what she describes as the world's largest face-to-face creative community: 252 cities, 70 countries, and more than a thousand volunteers gathering with around 25,000 people every month. Or, as she puts it, “church for creativity.” Visit our Susbtack for bonus content and more: https://designbetterpodcast.com/p/tina-roth-eisenberg-creative-mornings But Creative Mornings is just one thread in Tina's story. She's the voice behind Swiss Miss, the beloved design blog she's kept up for 21 years; the founder of FRIENDS, a creative coworking community in Brooklyn; and the creator of Tattly, the designer temporary tattoo company that started as a joke and turned into a business. In our conversation, Tina shares what she's learned about building communities that scale on trust rather than control, why she measures success in “return on friendship,” and how playful side projects increase “the surface area for luck to find you.” We also talk about commitment as a creative practice, raising creative kids, and why she believes the future isn't lonely—it's hyperlocal. Bio Tina Roth Eisenberg is a Swiss-born, Brooklyn-based designer and serial founder—though many know her simply as "swissmiss," after the design blog she started in 2005 as a personal visual archive, which grew into a popular design journal drawing an average of a million unique visitors a month. Raised in Speicher, Switzerland, and shaped by Swiss design (and, as she puts it, a lot of fresh mountain air), she completed her design studies in Geneva and Munich before moving to New York in 1999. She is the founder of CreativeMornings, the world's largest face-to-face creative community, with monthly talks in 252 cities across 70 countries; the founder of Tattly, the designy temporary tattoo company; co-creator of the to-do app TeuxDeux; and founder of FRIENDS, a creative coworking space in Brooklyn. She lives in beautiful Fort Greene, Brooklyn, with her two children, Ella and Tilo, who teach her about current memes and TikTok. Trend forecaster Gerald Celente discusses the decline of the United States, arguing that corporate and government interests have consolidated control over the media and banking sectors, effectively dismantling the American middle class. The conversation highlights the dangers of a burgeoning AI surveillance state and the economic consequences of persistent military conflicts involving figures like Trump and Netanyahu. Celente posits that China is surpassing the West by prioritizing business over war, while younger generations face a future of economic feudalism. Ultimately, Gerald warns of the loss of individual privacy and the potential for nuclear escalation in the Middle East. To navigate these turbulent times, Celente encourages people to focus on physical and spiritual health while advocating for a movement of “occupying” peace. "Maybe It's Just Me" The indie rock outfit Lost Leaders were formed in 2011 by pals Byron Isaacs and Peter Cole. Isaacs' resume was already pretty full at the time, thanks to his work as the bassist for the Lumineers and playing with the Levon Helm Band and Ollabelle. If that doesn't sound busy enough, Isaacs has also recorded and performed with Bruce Springsteen, Roseanne Cash, Jackson Browne, Amy Helm, and Joan Baez. As for singer/guitarist Cole, his CV was pretty full as well, thanks to his tenure in Lava Baby, long-serving the New York jazz scene and working as a professional audio engineer. Cole and Isaacs have been pals since the late '90s, playing in bands like Slink and Lowdowners in Stereom, but Lost Leaders is where the two musicians really hit their artistic stride. With a handful of winning albums under their belts like Hungry Ghosts, Promises Promises and their self-titled debut album, Lost Leaders' work is redolent with harmonic dexterity, melodic muscle and rootsy bliss. Their latest effort is producing the full soundtrack and composing the original score for the indie film RUN, which stars Sarah Levy, Adam Palley and Chris Redd. By the way, the soundtrack features Amy Helm and Samantha Fish and it's just wonderful Lost Leaders are about to hit the road opening for The Wallflowers, but before they do, they had a chat with us. I’ve been watching Matt Koff’s new comedy special Cat Man all week — it’s out now on YouTube — and this week I got to talk with Matt about it. He’s an Emmy-winning Daily Show writer and the winner of New York’s Funniest Standup 2023. We talked about the cultural discomfort around men who love cats, and the very real divide Matt has clocked between Manhattan audiences (who think men with cats are weird) and Brooklyn audiences (who emphatically do not). As a fellow middle-aged cat dad, I related more than I’d like to admit. We also got into how Cat Man came together: self-financed, shot in two shows on a single night at the Comedy Cellar, and made with a crew of longtime Daily Show colleagues who transformed the Village Underground into something out of David Lynch by way of The Muppet Show. And we talked about the shift from being angry about not being famous to being relieved about it — a turn that, for Matt, has a lot to do with the grease stains on his shirts. Matt Koff is a Brooklyn-based stand-up and Emmy-winning TV writer who has been at The Daily Show for 13 years. His debut comedy album, Who’s My Little Guy?, is out on 800 Pound Gorilla Records, and he’s written for The Onion and the Trevor Noah-hosted White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Be sure to check out the bonus conversation with Matt dropping on Patreon! Find it here on my Patreon page. You can find Matt at mattkoff.net and at mattkoff.substack.com.

This episode of Across The Margin : The Podcast features an interview with Bill Morrison who has been called the poet laureate of lost films (New York Times, 9/21/2021), as he often makes films that re-frame long-forgotten moving images. He has premiered feature-length documentary films at the New York, Sundance, Telluride and Venice film festivals. In 2021 Morrison became a member of the documentary branch of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. His found footage opus Decasia (2002) was the first film of the 21st century to be named to the Library of Congress' National Film Registry. Dawson City: Frozen Time (2016) was included on over 100 critics' lists of the best films of the year and was later listed as one of the best films of its decade by the Associated Press, Los Angeles Times, and Vanity Fair, among others. His most recent film, Incident (2023) won the Best Short Film Award from International Documentary Association in 2023, the Cinema Eye Honors for Outstanding Nonfiction Short, and was nominated for an Academy Award in Documentary Short in 2025. His film, The Great Flood (2013) — the focus of this episode — was recognized with the Smithsonian Ingenuity Award for historical scholarship. The Mississippi River Flood of 1927 was the most destructive river flood in American history. In the spring of 1927, the river broke out of its banks in 145 places and inundated 27,000 square miles to a depth of up to 30 feet. Part of its enduring legacy was the mass exodus of displaced sharecroppers. Musically, the “Great Migration” of rural southern blacks to Northern cities saw the Delta Blues electrified and reinterpreted as the Chicago Blues, Rhythm and Blues, and Rock and Roll. Using minimal text and no spoken dialog, filmmaker Bill Morrison and composer / guitarist Bill Frisell have created with The Great Flood a powerful portrait of a seminal moment in American history through a collection of silent images matched to a searing original soundtrack. Idanna Pucci's latest book, "Emilio Pucci: The Astonishing Odyssey of a Fashion Icon," is a biography co-authored by the niece of the famed designer along with her husband, Terence Ward. The narrative moves beyond Emilio Pucci's vibrant prints to uncover his harrowing experience during World War II and his role in postwar Italian reconstruction. Carefully detailed and researched by Idanna Pucci and her husband, this is an inside look at an extraordinary story of bravery long before anyone knew #EmilioPucci as the fashion artist he became. The authors recount Pucci's capture, imprisonment, and torture by Nazis following a secret mission to assist the opposition, and they explore his transition from war hero to fashion icon, with details about his shop on the island of Capri. It's a captivating read, in part because it comes first-hand from family members, most notably Idanna, who grew up in the Pucci palace in Florence and later worked for her uncle at his Saks Fifth Avenue boutique in New York. The biography draws from intimate family sources, including personal diaries and declassified war records. Please join me in welcoming #IdannaPucci on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE, #LittleItalyPodcast and the #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's my pleasure to welcome you here.
The Kendrick vs Drake beef has completely taken over the timeline, and hip-hop heads know that when the mic goes live, you aren't just getting the mainstream highlights—you're getting the unvarnished, barbershop-style truth. On this special sample of The Straight Dope Show (Episodes 344 and 345), hosts El Uno and TraB the Wonder, broadcasting on the Rock Da Crowd TV network, dig deep into the cultural fractures and playoff matchups currently shaking up our feeds. We start by doing a deep dive into the fallout of the Kendrick vs Drake battle, breaking down why Kendrick's "Not Like Us" served as the ultimate battle-ender. The conversation also critically analyzes Drake's historical strategy of using collaborations with artists like Rick Ross to manufacture street credibility and build cultural cachet over the years.Shifting gears to the court, we discuss how women's fashion in the WNBA is finally getting the mainstream tunnel-walk attention it deserves. Alongside the fashion talk, we reflect on the historical sexism within the sport, looking back at the absolute tragedy of original powerhouse dynasties like the Monarchs and Comets being disbanded despite their dominant championship runs.Wrapping things up with the NBA Playoffs, we praise Anthony Edwards' undeniable, infectious will to win against the defending champion Nuggets. Twenty-five years is a long time to stay ahead in electronic music, especially considering how quickly genres mutate and scenes evolve and collapse. So I sat down with North Carolina-born beatmaker Travis Stewart, better known as the inimitable Machinedrum, to ask what his secret is.Across records like Room(s), Vapor City and now the new mini-album BL00MS, Stewart has melded influences like jungle, footwork, UK bass, ambient, juke, techno, hip-hop and R&B into his own distinctive sound, and always managed to sound fresh and exciting. Along the way, there have been collaborations with Azealia Banks, A$AP Ferg, Tinashe, Dawn Richard and Hudson Mohawke, plus an insane catalogue of remixes: Solange, Boards Of Canada, The Glitch Mob, Bonobo and Johnny Cash (yes — THE Johnny Cash). We talk about the cities that shaped him, from North Carolina to New York to three formative years in Berlin. We unpack how “gateway” sounds can lead people into deeper listening (and possibly — begrudgingly on both our parts — how brostep may have acted as a catalyst for deeper listening), and how he's kept his work connected to his root influences without getting trapped by any one lane. The second half goes deep on independence and the modern music business. BL00MS is his first self-released project after years with Ninja Tune, and he's thinking hard about direct-to-fan release strategies, touring systems, and treating streaming like marketing rather than a lifeline. We also get into authenticity on social media, how to promote music without turning it into a clown show, and why self-imposed limitations inside Ableton Live can be the difference between endless tweaking and finishing a record. So, it's great to be back. Lost and Sound is now monthly. I started making episodes way back in 2018, and it's gone on a real journey since then. Now totally independent, I rely on listeners like you to help keep the project growing. If you enjoyed the episode, follow Lost and Sound on Substack and me on Instagram, subscribe to the RSS Feed, and share the episode with someone who'd be into it. Independent journalism and independent podcasting still run on word of mouth.BL00MS on Bandcamp.

There is a village in the apple country of western New York called Sodus, up in Wayne County near the south shore of Lake Ontario, about thirty miles east of Rochester. This is fruit-belt land, orchard and muck field running back from the lake, roadside stands selling cider in the fall, the big cold lake holding the frost off the trees in spring. In October the orchards go heavy and the light comes in low and gold across the drumlins, the long humped hills the glaciers left behind. A few thousand people, one central school the whole area feeds into, the worst trouble in a given year usually a bad wreck out on Route 14. The kind of place where a double murder in a driveway on a sunny Monday afternoon does not just grieve people, it cracks the basic understanding they have about where they live.On the twenty-second of October, 2018, a Monday, that understanding broke. It broke on a short residential street called Carlton Street, a block of modest houses near the Sodus Central School, the kind of street where people leave the doors unlocked and the kids ride bikes in the road. At a little after three in the afternoon, in full daylight, with neighbors home and children about, a young couple was shot to death in the driveway of their own home. By the time the first deputy arrived, the shooter was gone and the street had become a crime scene that the people who saw it would carry for the rest of their lives. Our Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp and use my code betterhelp.com for a great deal: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out BetterHelp and use my code betterhelp.com for a great deal: https://www.betterhelp.com* Check out Chime and use my code chime.com/OBSCURA for a great deal: https://www.chime.com* Check out Mood and use my code OBSCURA for a great deal: https://mood.com* Check out Progressive: https://www.progressive.com* Check out Quince and use my code quince.com/obscura for a great deal: https://www.quince.comSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/obscura-a-true-crime-podcast/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

The Spring Fling weekend was another dream come true, and whereas I will save the majority of my thoughts for Thursday night when J returns, I must acknowledge how grateful I am for the time spent with such exceptional people. Then we're into some parts of the news cycle from the weekend, which includes more mixed messages from the Iran War, a clear message from Stephen Spielberg for "The Church", and an all-too-familiar vote-counting situation in Los Angeles, and a genius idea to remedy urban "food deserts" in New York. Then i want take some calls before we welcome Mike Baldwin (MikeIsFunny.com) to talk about a thread I was contemplating on Tumblr the other night about common joys, annoyances, etc, that make the human experience a unified one over the course of ages. We're told that we can have it all if we time it right: build your career first, then start a family. But what does the medicine actually say? Amanda Goetz sits down with Dr. Lucky Sekhon, a double board-certified reproductive endocrinologist at RMA of New York and author of the USA Today bestseller The Lucky Egg. Dr. Lucky busts the biggest fertility myths (no, your fertility doesn't fall off a cliff at 35), explains why so-called "fertility checks" are mostly marketing, and breaks down the real difference between freezing eggs and freezing embryos. She also flips the script on a part of the story we tend to ignore—male-factor infertility, which accounts for roughly half of cases—and why family building is a team sport. Women shouldn't carry all the burden! It's an honest, science-forward, and surprisingly reassuring conversation about the fertility knowledge gap—and how it's okay to not have it all figured out in your 20s. . This episode gets into both the emotional and physical considerations of fertility treatment, and we think it's a worthwhile listen, regardless of what stage of life you might find yourself in—and even if you're undecided on the whole kids thing. Key Takeaways: Fertility doesn't fall off a cliff at 35. It's a gradual continuum, and many women conceive naturally into their 30s and 40s. AMH measures egg count, not fertility, and a low number shouldn't cause panic. Most pop-in or at-home "fertility checks" are marketing. No single test can predict whether you'll struggle to conceive. Start paying attention in your 20s by understanding your cycle and spotting red flags like PCOS or endometriosis. And pay attention to your family history. Freezing eggs and freezing embryos are different—eggs offer more flexibility and stay solely yours, while embryos give clearer answers but need both partners' sign-off. When choosing a clinic, ask about its actual thaw and IVF success rates, not just whether you like the doctor. Male-factor infertility is something we need to talk more about. Every day stress doesn't cause infertility, but insulin resistance is an under-recognized and treatable driver worth checking. (01:20) Intro (03:30) Dr. Lucky's personal journey (08:49) The misinformation problem and why absolutes are a red flag (10:22) The "cliff at 35" myth and the continuum of fertility (11:03) When to start paying attention (hint: your 20s) + birth control myths (15:28) Amanda's PCOS diagnosis (18:31) Family timing, privilege, and perfectionism (21:46) Feeling "behind," the knowledge gap, and giving yourself grace (24:56) Egg freezing: when it should enter the conversation (27:14) All about eggs vs. embryos (32:12) Men and male-factor infertility (36:00) Rapid fire (44:00) Inside The Lucky Egg GUEST LINKS Read The Lucky Egg https://www.instagram.com/lucky.sekhon/ https://theluckyegg.com/ FOLLOW THE PODCAST IG: https://www.instagram.com/girlboss/ | TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@girlboss Amanda Goetz: https://www.instagram.com/theamandagoetz/ https://girlboss.com/pages/ambition-2-0-podcast SIGN UP Subscribe to the Girlboss Daily newsletter: https://newsletter.girlboss.com/ For all other Girlboss links: https://linkin.bio/girlboss/ ABOUT AMBITION 2.0 Powered by Girlboss, Ambition 2.0 is a podcast where we'll be exploring what it really means to "have it all" in work, family, identity, and self… and if it's actually worth it. In 2025, the Michigan Bell Building in Grand Rapids, Michigan sold for over $18 million to a New York investment firm. This eight-story office building is home to AT&T today and while a 101-year-old historic building in downtown Grand Rapids is interesting, it is the murder that occurred at the home that once stood on this site before the building was here, that makes this site intriguing and haunted. The Judd White House stood here and was the scene of a murder-suicide with a wooden leg as a possible weapon.
