Joan Bernal's episodes originally aired in October 2020. In December of 1988, Joan Bernal, her husband, and their children had plans to leave their home in Joliet, Illinois, and head to Texas to visit her husband's family for the holidays. Things didn't go as planned, and they weren't able to bring Joan's children from a previous marriage due to custody issues. According to Joan's husband, Gil, they decided to make the trip anyway. He later told investigators that Joan became upset during the drive and that he dropped her off near a bus stop in McAlester, Oklahoma, and gave her cash so she could return to Illinois. The plan, he said, was for Joan to pick up her other children and then fly to Texas to meet them. Joan Bernal has never been seen or heard from again.Over the years, this case has been marked by conflicting accounts, unanswered questions, and lingering uncertainty about what truly happened to Joan. Investigators and Joan's loved ones have wrestled with whether she could still be alive, whether foul play was involved, and why no verified trace of her has ever surfaced.Update:In December 2025, 37 years after Joan Bernal was last seen, the case took a significant turn. A Will County grand jury returned a sealed indictment charging Joan's husband, Gilbert Bernal, with first-degree murder in connection with her disappearance. The American Red Cross has declared a severe blood shortage after the nationwide flu outbreak and widespread snowfall across the country. They say the national blood supply has fallen 35% over the past month with 350 blood drives from Oklahoma to Maine were cancelled because of the winter storm, which would have collected 10,000 units of blood. FOX's Tonya J. In addition to Hawke's Oscar-nominated performance opposite Denzel Washington in Training Day (2001), he is perhaps best known for indie collaborations with Richard Linklater on Boyhood (2014), Waking Life (2001), and the BEFORE trilogy (1995, 2004, 2013) – which he scripted with the director and co-star Julie Delpy. Among his other memorable films are First Reformed (2017), Born to Be Blue (2015), Good Kill (2014), Before the Devil Knows You're Dead (2007), Hamlet (2000), Gattaca (1997), and Dead Poets Society (1989). He has also directed both fiction and documentary, such as Wildcat (2023), The Last Movie Stars (2022), Blaze (2018), and Seymour: An Introduction (2006). From a brilliant screenplay by Robert Kaplow, Linklater elicits Hawke's greatest performance yet — incarnating the self-destructive Hart on the very night that his collaborator Richard Rodgers (Andrew Scott) has just opened Oklahoma! on Broadway with new partner Oscar Hammerstein II. Co-starring Bobby Cannavale and Margaret Qualley, Blue Moon is a revelation of Hawke's maturation as an artist.

Do Native Americans need more encouragement to consume saturated fats? Native nutritionists are wondering how the new federal dietary guidelines just unveiled by U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. intersects with decades of scientific research urging the population with the highest rates of heart disease to limit their saturated fat intake. The new federal food pyramid shows up in recommendations for programs like Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), Head Start, Indian Health Service, and the National School Lunch Program. Tribes in the Pacific Northwest are stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to seals taking a bite out of the salmon populations they worked decades to preserve. The seals are protected by the Marine Mammal Protection Act. They feast on fish that on which the tribes rely. We will look at how this situation affects tribal treaty rights and what tribes are doing in response. A handful of organizations are working to strengthen traditional connections between urban Native residents and buffalo. Organizers in Chicago and Denver are among those working to put the animals closer to Native people who might not otherwise have exposure to a significant traditional source of food. After overhauling literacy policy in 2013, Mississippi went from 49th to a top 10 state in fourth-grade reading. It's been dubbed the “Mississippi Miracle,” but those involved say it was more of a marathon.
