One of my own kids favorite events during their elementary school years was the annual book fair. A section of the cafeteria would be set up with a huge display put on by the folks at Scholastic Books. On their website, Scholastic Books tells us that just last year alone, twenty-eight million kids attended school book fairs, and that one hundred million books got into kids' hands from the fair. If you click around on the Scholastic Books website you'll soon discover that the company is now promoting a “read with pride” campaign, as they are, and I quote, “proud to celebrate LGBTQIA+ stories with new and award winning books for kids and teens!” Scroll down the page and you will learn about pride-themed books for young adults, for kids ages eight to twelve, and for readers as young as three to five. Our kids are forming their beliefs and behaviors all through their childhood and teen years. And with so many voices teaching them about sex and gender, it's imperative that we teach them God's design.
Label: Columbia SP 10287Year: 1970Condition: M-Price: $75.00This incredible, rare 4-song EP not only has a gorgeous psychedelic picture sleeve, but also 4 of the group's best, less-played nuggets--two of which are among the four Byrds tracks on Dave Marsh's list of the 1001 greatest singles ever made! The first song was previously unreleased and is itself a Byrds classic of the first order. It appeared on an LP about the same time as this promo EP, entitled "Untitled/Unissued". The four songs are:Lover of the Bayou (McGuinn-Levy)So You Want To Be A Rock And Roll Star (McGuinn-Hillman)Goin' Back (G. Goffin-C. King)Chimes of Freedom (B. Dylan)The record was issued for Scholastic Book Services in conjunction with a book about the Byrds issued by Scholastic Books. Note that the EP label has a custom imprint of the Byrds "logo". A very cool collectable indeed!
The school bookfair is no longer a safe place for children thanks to Scholastic Books. Remember the excitement of picking out new books as a child? Those cherished memories have been marred thanks to the changes and concerns surrounding these fairs today.Join us as we discuss how Scholastic's overt indoctrination through LGBT-themed books conflicts with traditional views of marriage, sex, and gender, along with a critique of their "Read with Pride" guide, which promotes an agenda contrary to God's design. We'll also look at resources and organizations that Scholastic recommends that affirm LGBTQIA+ youth, explore counter-narratives from Brave Books, and explore alternative book fairs like Skytree that offer more wholesome literature. Plus, insights into protecting our children from potentially harmful content. https://onelittlecandlepodcast.com https://lovintruthbooks.com https://bravebooks.ushttps://skytreebookfairs.orghttps://thefederalist.com/2024/06/10/scholastic-promotes-lgbt-indoctrination-with-read-with-pride-guide-for-parents-teachers/https://changedmovement.com/
Today's episode (108) dives into a very important yet sensitive topic—Pride Month. In this episode, we'll be exploring pride, love and identity through the lens of God's perspective, unpacking the often controversial phrase "love is love," and discussing the true essence of sacrificial love as defined by the Bible. We'll revisit the symbolism of the rainbow, originally God's covenant with Noah, and address its current association with LGBT pride. With a focus on biblical teachings, we'll talk about the complexities and challenges Christians face when navigating today's culture, especially concerning issues like homosexuality and transgenderism. We'll also touch on the influence of public schools, workplaces, and even major retailers like Target and Scholastic Books in promoting LGBT acceptance, and how these can impact our children and communities.Additionally, we'll discuss the troubling aspects of pride from a spiritual standpoint and the importance of standing firm in God's design for marriage, sex, and gender. Visit https://onelittlecandlepodcast.com and https://lovintruthbooks.com for insightful resources, like the recommended children's book "Rainbows Are Everywhere," to help you teach these values to your kids.

Today we're joined by our friend Kirk Cameron to talk about his new book, "The Fox, the Fair, and the Invention Scare," as well as the rise of inappropriate books for children in schools and why it matters to fight back. First, we recap our last conversation with Kirk, in which he declared public schools enemy number one. Is this still the case, and what should Christians who work in public schools do to combat the ever-growing hostility toward their worldview? We look at where inappropriate children's books are coming from and explain how Scholastic Books is a wolf in sheep's clothing attempting to force gender ideology books among the books we know and love. Kirk shares about his alternative to Scholastic Book Fairs, SkyTree Books Fairs, and we discuss why he feels to passionately about this subject and why it's so important for us as Christians to stand against the indoctrination of kids. We end with some encouragement on creating good soil for our children and the optimism we can have. --- Timecodes: (01:12) Public education (07:30) Scholastic Books (13:06) Sky Tree book fairs (14:30) How did Scholastic get to this point? On this week's episode we discuss the jailing of Lashawn Thompson, who was jailed in Fulton County on a misdemeanor , but was found in his cell eaten alive by “bed bugs, lice, and other vermin”. How did conditions get this bad? Why wasn't anyone aware of this before hand? Also, major book publisher Scholastic Books is under fire for forcing author Tokuda-Hall to censor their writing about race in America as a Japanese immigrant during WW2. Can we expect more censorship from other publishers, and why is this happening now. And lastly, what happens when Jay-Z does a guest appearance on an album… but it's not the real Sean Carter, but an AI generated voice? Is this just the beginning of AI in music? We discuss all that and much more. Informed. Intelligent. In The Black.

In 1941, when Yaffa Eliach was six years old, German troops invaded her town in what was then Poland. Most of the Jewish population was rounded up and murdered. Within two days, 900 years of history was sundered. But Yaffa and her family managed to escape. After the war, Yaffa settled in the United States, where she earned a PhD, writing and telling stories about the Holocaust. Yaffa is the subject of a new picture book by Chana Stiefel. Illustrated by Susan Gal, the book is called The Tower of Life: How Yaffa Eliach Rebuilt Her Town in Stories and Photographs. Chana is the award-winning author of more than 30 books for children. In this episode, she talks with host Suzanne McCabe about Yaffa's remarkable story, The Tower of Life, and why it's so important for young people to learn about the Holocaust. → Resources Chana Stiefel: Includes a teaching guide for The Tower of Life and summaries of other books by the award-winning author. United States Holocaust Memorial Museum: Learn more about Yaffa Eliach's “Tower of Faces,” and get resources for observing International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27. → Highlights Chana Stiefel, author, The Tower of Life “Yaffa was born in a shtetl called Eishyshok, which was then part of Poland and now Lithuania. She was born in 1935. When the Nazis invaded, the Jews were rounded up into the synagogue. Her father had told the family to hide.” “Two of Yaffa's grandmothers, not just her mother, worked. One of them sold candles at the local market, and the other was the town photographer. Yaffa's grandfather had visited America in the 1920s, and he came home with this new invention, a camera, and they started a business above the family pharmacy. Everyone would come to have their photo taken. People would send New Year's cards, Rosh Hashanah cards, to their families who had left Eishyshok.” “When Yaffa fled, she had the sense to tuck some of those photos into her shoes. She held onto them throughout the war, and that definitely played a role in the incredible exhibit she later created.” “The focus of my book is not so much the war, but the life before the war and the rebuilding afterward, and how Yaffa rebuilt her town.” “I learned from Yaffa's daughter, Smadar Rosensweig, who is also a professor, that her mother was a groundbreaking teacher and she wanted to teach. She wanted to create a curriculum about the Holocaust. But after the war, many survivors didn't even want to talk about their history, and she felt it was so important. She realized that a lot of the history that was being taught was from the Nazi perspective, and she wanted to change that.” “She encouraged Holocaust survivors to tell their stories, and she began documenting them. And that was groundbreaking work. No one had done that at that point.” “In 1979, President Jimmy Carter wanted to build a memorial to the victims of the Holocaust in Washington, D.C., and he asked Yaffa to help build a memorial. She didn't want to focus on death and dying and destruction. She wanted to focus on the lives that were lived and the beautiful lives of the people from her town. She remembered the photos she had tucked in her shoes, and she thought, well, other people must have photos, too.” “She traveled for 17 years, to six continents, to nearly all 50 United States, and she collected 6,000 photographs, and she built this “Tower of Life,” which has over a thousand photographs in it.” “Yaffa wanted people to see themselves in these photographs. That, essentially, was her mission. And you do, you connect, because here you are seeing people celebrating with their families, having weddings, playing outdoors, the picture of Yaffa feeding the chickens, hugging each other. And it's very relatable. And you realize the tragic endings for many or most of these people all around her.” “One thing that really was gripping to [illustrator Susan Gal] was that when she started to research Nazis, she was seeing a lot of images come up of present-day Nazis, neo-Nazis. And that was really upsetting and disturbing to her, and she just threw herself entirely into this story because she felt it was so important.” “If you look at the book, you'll see that the pages of the Germans and Nazis invading, those people, the soldiers don't have faces. Because she felt that if you try to take away someone's humanity, you don't deserve to have your face in a book. So she erased their faces.” “When Yaffa and her family were in hiding, her parents taught her that a glimmer of light can chase away the darkness. Yaffa's mother taught her how to read and write by etching letters into the walls of a shelter where they were staying. They were clay walls. You'll see a page where her mother is writing on the wall, and that's actually my Hebrew handwriting. I speak and write in Hebrew. The words are tikvah, which means hope, shalom, which means peace, ohr, which means light and haim, which is life. And those are the major themes of the book.” “When you see a lot of photographs of the Holocaust, you see these horrible photos of emaciated victims, and they're dehumanized. That was what the Nazis mission was, to dehumanize the Jewish people. So that's what you see in the photographs, people who are starving and they don't even look human. By restoring humanity to the victims, Yaffa restored their dignity. [She showed] that these were people just like you and me. And I think that's a universal message, that we need to stop hating each other and bullying, and we need to stop just othering people. We are all human, and we need to see our common bonds.” “There are so many wonderful books out there about Jewish life. In addition to books about the Holocaust, it'd be wonderful if people could also enjoy books about Jewish life.” → Special Thanks Producer: Constance Gibbs Sound engineer: Daniel Jordan Music composer: Lucas Elliot Eberl → Coming Soon World Read Aloud Day Akim Aliu Introduces Dreamer

Guest: Dr. Katie Chretien, PCA Plano Lower School Principal PCA has undergone an intensive examination of the books and resources that our students have access to especially in the Lower School library. Resources must be age appropriate in their language, imagery, and ideas communicated to our students. Dr. Chretien shares about the work being done at the Lower School library at the Plano campus, but this audit is ongoing at the Middle School, Upper School, and North Campus libraries as well. PCA Lower School has moved from Scholastic Books to I:55 Book Fairs, Where Faith Matters. From I:55's website: Our vision at I55 Book Fairs is to partner with Christian schools, churches, and organizations in proclaiming the name of Jesus Christ. We are passionate about raising up a generation of inspired readers. Our name comes from Isaiah 55. This chapter encompasses all we strive to do, knowing that nothing is impossible with God. The audit of the books and resources that students have access to in the library should also encourage you as a parent to do a similar audit of what information has access to your children at home through TV, movies, and social media. Parents, help us continue to be vigilant - if you run across something in a book that you think we need to be aware of, please contact either Dr. Chretien at kchretien@prestonwoodchristian.org or Dan Panetti at dpanetti@prestonwoodchristian.org

This may be the most important episode of Middle Grade Book Party we'll ever release. If you are an advocate of children's literacy, or care passionately about getting great books into the hands of children everywhere, this is the episode for you! After hearing us talk with authors Jennifer A. Nielsen, and Jennifer Jenkins about their new children's literacy initiative, the importance of reading, and hanging on a fence by a wedgie, you'll come away inspired, excited, and hopefully, ready to get involved. At least we sure did!A glimpse at the initiative from Jennifer A. Nielsen:"A few years ago, I had the privilege of hearing a speech given by Dick Robinson, the President of Scholastic Books, in which he said, “As long as children do not have equal access to books, we will never live in a truly equal society.”He was right. In middle class neighborhoods, there are an average of 13 books for each young reader. However, in high poverty areas, the ratio is approximately 1 age appropriate book for every 300 children."This moment inspired Jennifer A. Nielsen to found the Book Drop Campaign. In partnership with Teen Author Boot Camp [TABC], an amazing not-for-profit organization specifically geared for teen and tween authors, Book Drop is seeking funding from corporate sponsors to be able to purchase a book for every child in as many Title 1 Schools as possible. But they are offering more than a book. Since author visits generate higher interest in reading books, and communicate with time and attention how much each child individually matters, the authors of the books will donate their time to offer free school visits to students as well. Corporate sponsors may also participate directly in the school events if they wish. This Episode's Guests: Jennifer A. NielsenNew York Times Bestselling author, Jennifer Nielsen, was born and raised in northern Utah, where she still lives today with her family, a dog that won't play fetch, and a cat that hallucinates. She is the author of The Ascendance series, beginning with THE FALSE PRINCE; the TRAITOR'S GAME series, the historical novels, RESISTANCE, A NIGHT DIVIDED, WORDS ON FIRE, RESCUE, and several other titles. She loves chocolate, old books, and lazy days in the mountains. Jennifer is the founder of the Book Drop campaign.Jennifer JenkinsWith her degree in History and Secondary Education, Jennifer Jenkins had every intention of teaching teens to love George Washington, the Napoleonic Wars, and Ancient Sparta ... until the writing began. She is the author of the Nameless trilogy (2015-2018), To Kill a Curse (2019), Of Blood and Fire (2020), The Order of Chaos (2021), and Teen Writer's Guide: Your Road Map to Writing (2020). She is also the co-founder of Teen Author Boot Camp, a federal non-profit organization dedicated to promoting teen literacy and authorship. On this episode of Emerging Brands, Kelly Roddy, President and Chief Executive Officer of WOWorks, talks about the early beginning of his career at Walmart. Roddy's first restaurant job was CEO at Schlotzsky's under the FOCUS Brands umbrella. In 2019 Roddy started at SaladWorks as the Chief Executive Officer with the intent to create a holding company to bring in several good for you brands. WOWorks set out to acquire brands well positioned for a guest that has educated themselves on food as fuel. WOWorks added three additional brands to the portfolio with plans to add more. Roddy discusses the pandemic and the difficult time it was for the restaurant industry. He talks about supporting his franchise partners, working closely with the community, and giving back to first responders. David LaRochelle and Mike Wohnoutka join me to discuss their collaboration from its start to how it remains successful, and their newest picture book, SEE THE CAT. We discuss the very different paths they took to publication, the difference in a writer’s workday versus an illustrator’s workday, the difference winning an award makes, school visits, professional pumpkin carving, a contest-winning supermarket run, and so much more. David LaRochelle has been creating books for young people for over twenty-five years. His many picture book titles include The Best Pet of All, How Martha Saved Her Parents from Green Beans, and Moo! He is the recipient of the Sid Fleischman Humor Award, multiple children’s choice awards, and a three-time winner of the Minnesota Book Award. A former elementary school teacher, David still visits many classrooms around the Midwest (and world!) each year, talking with students about books, writing, and illustrating. When he is not creating new books, he loves to read, play board games, and carve unique jack-o’-lanterns, which you can view at his website davidlarochelle.com. Ever since Mike can remember he knew he wanted to be an artist. His dad, who worked at the Highway Department, would bring home reams of paper that had highway plans on one side and were blank on the other. He would be so excited to have all that paper to draw on and would fill each sheet with snowmobiles, baseball players, superheroes—everything he was interested in. His high school art teacher, Mr. Chase encouraged Mike to pursue art as a career. This, along with a scholarship, led him to the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. Since graduating with a B.F.A. in Illustration, Mike has illustrated over 30 books for children. He has worked with various clients including Bloomsbury Publishing, Candlewick Press, Henry Holt, Clarion Books, Disney-Hyperion Books, Holiday House, Scholastic Books, Penguin-Random House, Cricket Magazine Group, General Mills, 3M, Medtronic, and Peaceable Kingdom Press. A native of Spicer, Minnesota, Mike currently lives with his family in Minneapolis.

Time Codes: 00:00:27 - Introduction 00:03:08 - Introducing Paul Lai as new YR cohost 00:04:50 - A farewell message from Andy Wolverton 00:07:12 - Bats: Learning to Fly 00:31:39 - NewsPrints 01:00:37 - Wrap up 01:01:11 - Contact us Changes The Comics Alternative extends a warm welcome to Paul Lai, who has taken over from Andy Wolverton as co-host with Gwen Tarbox on the Young Readers show. Everyone at The Comics Alternative family will miss Andy's wise and engaging reviews and perspectives on children's and young adult comics. In their first show together, Gwen and Paul discuss the newest volume in First Second Books' Science Comics series, Falynn Christine Koch's Bats: Learning to Fly, as well as Ru Xu's fiction (“diesel-punk,” as Paul terms it) graphic novel NewsPrints, published by the GRAPHIX imprint at Scholastic Books. Since its launch in 2016, the Science Comics series has included volumes on coral reefs, volcanoes, and dinosaurs. Geared towards upper elementary and middle school aged readers, Science Comics take advantage of the elements of visual storytelling to put forward scientific information. As the editors point out: “With the increasing ubiquity of visual information,” young readers need to “learn to process and respond to visual content, and comics are an incredibly effective medium for exploring visual literacy.” Regular listeners to the podcast may remember that Gwen and Andy reviewed Dinosaurs by M.K. Reed and Joe Flood in their March 2016 YR show, and many of the elements that they praised, including the accessibility of scientific information, as well as the use of humor, appear in Koch's volume, as well. Bats: Learning to Fly encourages young readers to understand the important role that bats play in the ecosystem, to overcome their fear of bats, and to learn how they can become involved in protecting and caring for bats. In addition to providing a great deal of information on various species of Bats, Koch creates a narrative in which a teenage girl, Sarah, volunteers at a bat rehabilitation center after her parents overreact to a bat and injure it. Lil' Brown, as the bat is known, is both a character in that narrative and a narrative presence in his own right, as he directly addresses the reader at various points regarding his own anatomy and role in the ecosystem. As part of their discussion, Paul and Gwen consider how young readers might respond to the way information is imparted in the comic, and they look forward to Koch's upcoming volume for the Science Comics series, Plagues: The Microscopic Battlefield, due out in August, 2017. Koch recently graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), and Gwen and Paul discuss how her precision drawings and humor-filled text combine to create a text that will delight readers, while encouraging them to appreciate how they can play a role in scientific study by volunteering to rehabilitate bats or building bat houses for their backyards. Next, Gwen and Paul discuss another debut comic from a SCAD graduate. NewsPrints is written and drawn by Ru Xu, a comics creator who was born in Beijing, immigrated to Indianapolis as a young child, and has had a lifelong love of comics from a variety of traditions, including manga, European comics, and even superhero comics. NewsPrints takes place in a fictional diesel-punk world where the land of Nautilene is torn by war and a newspaper called The Bugle is the only media outlet left that is still reporting the truth. The protagonist, Blue, is a rare kind of newsboy in a society that counts on its newsboys to shout out the headlines and sell papers…and that's because Blue is not a boy, but a girl, orphaned by the war and adopted by the family who owns the newspaper. Blue sets out to provide that one doesn't have to be a boy to be vital in the news business, and along the way, readers are introduced to a cast of characters such as Jack, the eccentric and secretive inventor; Crow, a strange kid who remains wrapped in a scarf and in mysteries of his own; and Goldie, Blue's loyal canary, who matches Blue's welcoming of people and spirit of flight. As part of their discussion, Paul and Gwen praise Xu's mastery of many genres of comics, including her ability to meld various traditional forms into an entirely unique story world. Thus, while the text shares much in common with recent fantasy releases, including Faith Erin Hicks' The Nameless City and Jorge Corona's Feathers, NewsPrints stands on its own, with a vast, inviting story space and a focus on issues of truth and representation that are ever more a part of our own political and social climate. Paul praised Xu's deft handling of interactions among characters, and Gwen expressed her admiration for Xu's use of color and shading to help set the mood and to ease transitions across the comic. Given the book's indeterminate ending, Paul and Gwen look forward to the series continuing into additional volumes, and they dwell on Xu's treatment of gender and ethnicity in thoughtful ways. In their conversation, Mark and David discuss: David's love of writing, which started when he was nine years old and had his first writing published in a local newspaper The fact that David had planned on becoming a doctor and was taken aside by a very astute teacher when he was seventeen who told him, “Dave, you're a writer. You don't it yet, but you're a writer and you can't get away from that. It's going to come out some day.” When he was studying pre-med and spent three days working on a poem that just wouldn't leave his mind. Winning third place in a college writing contest for a short story and how that inspired him to write more and submit them to other contests, where he won first place in all of them, including first prize in the L. The Global War on Terror launched in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks on the United States has had a series of perverse effects. At its most egregious, it has licensed the return of torture and political assassination (now known as ‘targeted killing’), as well as the widespread degradation of personal privacy. Closely tied to these effects has been a growing militarisation of Western societies. In Canada this militarisation has been most noticeable in public acts, such as the designation of a stretch of Canada’s busiest highway as ‘the Highway of Heroes’, and the escalating presence of the military at sporting events. It is, however, a much more widespread phenomenon. This talk begins to explore the militarisation of Canadian society in and through its popular culture, jumping off from an analysis of two particular artefacts: an ‘award winning’ CBC Radio drama, Afghanada, and a children’s book, Road to Afghanistan, which is distributed by Scholastic Books to schools across the country. David Mutimer is Professor of International Politics and Chair of the Department of Political Science at York University, and is the Founding Editor of Critical Studies on Security. His research considers issues of contemporary international security through lenses provided by critical social theory, as well as inquiring into the reproduction of security in and through popular culture. Much of that work has focused on weapons proliferation as a reconfigured security concern in the post-cold war era, and has tried to open possibilities for alternative means of thinking about the security problems related to arms more generally. In the past few years this programme of research has concentrated on small arms and light weapons. More recently he has turned his attention to the politics of the global war on terror, and of the regional wars around the world presently being fought by Canada and its allies. He also writes about the history and sociology of Critical Security Studies.
n the galaxy of graphic novels, Craig Thompson is a singular talent. His books don't just tell different stories: they take place in entirely different universes. He burst onto the scene with the semi-autobiographical work about his move to Portland called “Goodbye, Chunky Rice.” Its delightfully quirky writing and cartoony style won him the Harvey Award for Best New Talent. He followed up with the incredible autobiography “Blankets,” about growing up in a fundamentalist Christian family in Wisconsin. The 600-page tome was a game-changer, sweeping the comic awards and redefining the literary depths a graphic novel memoir could plumb. Then Thompson completely changed gears with “Habibi,” an epic allegory set in a modern Arabian Nights fantasia. Now, he just released “Space Dumplins” on Scholastic Books. It's the zany adventure of a girl who has to save her family from giant planet-eating whales whose excrement has replaced oil as the universe's fuel. Did we mention there's a sartorial talking chicken named Elliot? We reached Thompson in his home in Los Angeles, where he moved earlier this year. Our conversation spanned his blue-collar roots, the friends who inspired the characters in “Space Dumplins,” and what attracted him to writing a children's book. Also, he reads his manifesto in the voice of the character Gar, the lumberjack father who harvests space whale, well, “dumplings."
Aug. 30, 2014. Jeff Smith appears at the 2014 Library of Congress National Book Festival in Washington, D.C. Speaker Biography: Cartoonist Jeff Smith is best known for creating the comic book and graphic novel series "Bone," a publication characterized by both light-hearted comedy and dark fantasy. The idea for the Bone cousins, lead characters in the series, began to formulate when Smith was just a kid, inspired by the cartoons and comics he read; these characters stuck with him throughout his adult life and led to his lifelong career as a cartoonist. Smith successfully self-published the "Bone" series through his own company, Cartoon Books, before it was picked up years later by major publishing house Graphix, an imprint of Scholastic Books. For his work on "Bone," Smith has received various awards, including 10 Eisner awards and 11 Harveys. Two of his most recent series are "RASL" and "Tuki Save the Humans." This episode of Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site features a story on Great Movie Star Screen Couples of the past. We all have our favorite screen couples from the golden age of cinema, and we look back at some of them. Who are your favorites? Maybe Bogie and Bacall, William Powell and Myrna Loy, or perhaps Clark Gable and Jean Harlow. Whoever your favorites are, we'll remember them here, and also look back at why they were so appealing in those great films we know and love. Next we look back at Scholastic Books. Do you remember when you were in school, and you could order books from the Scholastic Book Company? Once or twice a year, the students were invited to order books from a catalog and everyone waited for the big day when the teacher would have the big box of books on the desk and hand out those books that everyone waited weeks to receive. For many, this instilled a love of reading that remains to this day. We also look back at some of the popular publications for young people from back in the day such as "My Weekly Reader", and "Highlights for Children". Finally we look at some of the electric and metal toys of the 50s and 60s. We look back at the electric football and hockey games that were prevalent back then. We also look back at the Easy Bake Oven, and how little girls would bake cakes and goodies in those little ovens that inspired a whole generation of cooks and bakers. Our Retro-Commercials are for De Soto and of course, the Easy Bake Ovens. Join us on Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site!
Especially for the arrival of the autumn equinox, alias fall, we bring you “Moonlight Over Cassia Peak” a nature myth from China explaining the abundance of cassia trees around Lingyin Temple in the Wulin Mountains. The version we have borrowed presents the legend as a tale within a tale. We come to you from Fall River, MA, where we gear up for another haunting season in Salem. We've completed our 21st summer season, which took us from Monterey, CA to Medford, MA. Along the way, we performed for the American Library Association's annual conference on behalf of Scholastic Books (held in Chicago this year) and biked the Katy Trail in Missouri. And Dennis began writing about some of our travel adventures for examiner.com. Oh yes, and we have a guest star this time who's hardly a stranger to our podcasts or our shows: our son Zephyr, who now lives in Massachusetts and hadn't done a podcast with us since January. Happy Listening! Dennis (De Wing), Kimberly (Narrator, Queen) and Zephyr (Abbot, Wu Gang)
