Are you struggling to capture the hearts and minds of prospective students? If so, you're not alone. In the first episode of The Partnership Podcast - Higher Ed Marketing, host Penny Eccles addresses five reasons why you may not be attracting enough students to your institution. This episode looks at how to adjust your marketing strategies to ensure your institution resonates with your target audience. Building connections. Nurturing leads What do Saturday night TV's Gladiators and HE marketing have in common? Both have to face the gauntlet, says Penny Eccles. So how can we, as marketers, conquer our own gladiators and start 2025 with a robust lead pool? In this episode, Penny begins by highlighting the importance of creating a memorable institutional story that uses clarity and repetition to resonate with potential students and stakeholders. She delves into strategies to ensure institutions remain on prospective students' radars by effectively generating and nurturing leads through human connection and early relationship-building efforts. She highlights the importance of leveraging CRM systems and looks at the role of social media in crafting a compelling narrative for your institution. Penny also addresses the pivotal role academic staff and wider stakeholders play in the student recruitment process. The episode wraps with actionable insights on ways to harness social media and content marketing to solidify your institution's narrative and strengthen its appeal to potential students and their influencers. In This EpisodeHow to make your institution's story more memorableAssessing whether you are on your target audience's ‘meaningful radar' Why you need to be treasuring your precious leadsThe importance of a functioning CRM systemWhy you should supply helpful content like you don't want anything in returnWhy you should keep a record of what is, and isn't, workingHow to engage wider stakeholdersSummary of the five reasons why you aren't attracting students to your institutionSome of the things that are killing conversion rates Quotes“What have you done to spend time with your academic colleagues or your professional services colleagues to equip them to help you in your student recruitment and marketing endeavours?”“If you think that your best communication should start after your students apply, here's a brutal truth. They've already been forming relationships with your competitors, and the likelihood is that you've hit that UCAS form because your institution is a filler.”“There are a lot of activities that are lead generating but don't currently generate the leads. A good example is HE fairs. I don't think universities are diligent at collecting as many leads as possible. Yes, of course, that conversation is crucial, but so is the lead.”

The pandemic showed us we could all work in different places; can we all work at different times, too? That idea – known as ‘asynchronous' work – has gained traction at a number of companies. Workers march to the beat of their own drum, and only occasionally speak to their scattered colleagues in real time. That gives them greater flexibility; but does it make collaboration harder? How can a manager get a handle on their team's work if they're several time zones away? And how can colleagues be expected to bond, or trust each other, without spending real time together? Guest host Mischa Frankl-Duval speaks to Scott Farquhar, CEO of software group Atlassian, whose employees work from 13 countries; and Jen Rhymer, an assistant professor at the UCL School of Management, to find out how companies make asynchronous work… work.Want more? Eric is also the author of more than 50 books covering the areas of creativity, life, purpose, meaning, and mental health.Once upon a time, in a world filled with rules and orthodoxies, Eric discovered the power of self-forgiveness, purpose, and creativity. Growing up in a neighbourhood where the aftermath of World War II still lingered, he was instilled with the idea of being a resistance fighter against societal norms at a young age. This spirit of opposition led him to question the status quo and seek out his own life purposes. He faced the challenges of being a smart individual in a society that often sought to silence voices like his. Through this struggle, Eric learned the importance of embracing one's individuality and passions. Over time, he developed into a creativity coach, guiding artists and entrepreneurs on their journeys to self-discovery and success. In this episode, Eric talks about one of his books, Redesign Your Mind, and cognitive therapy, and how it works on your thoughts. In his book, Eric proposes a methodology for changing your thoughts or replacing them with something else. This can come in different packaging, from betrayal to even being ghosted. But no matter what format the end of your friendship takes, finding out someone you thought would always be in your life isn't going to be is always painful. And it can be downright lonely, too, because as adults, making friends, (especially for women) can be very tricky. So how can you get over being blindsided by the loss of a friendship? How is your company culture looking? Worried that it's taken a hit during the ongoing pandemic? What can you do to stop your best employees leaving? Who better to provide the answers to these questions than the doyenne of culture herself, Melissa Daimler. Melissa cut her teeth at Adobe, Twitter and latterly, WeWork, leading their learning and development efforts globally. Today she helps organisations, predominantly tech firms in Silicon Valley, operationalise their culture.“There's just a lot of companies who are now realising having seen the downfall of WeWork and other companies that if you don't pay attention to that [company culture], you know, things fall apart on the business side.”In today's episode, Melissa shares her thoughts on company culture and her model for how to make culture real in an organisation and how you take a value statement, and how you then turn that value statement into a set of behaviours that you overlay with performance expectations. “Make sure that if you have values, that they're not just values on a wall, that they're actually behaviours that you can see and experience in the daily workings of the company. And if that's not true don't even have them. Don't bother.”We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.  On today's podcast:Operationalising your cultureWhy culture isn't ‘the fuzzy stuff'The impact of culture on employee churnThe theme of bad meetingsEmbracing remote workingHow to maintain company culture in this new normalLinks:Why Leadership Development Has to Happen on the Job

“We're not really evolving, the way that we work… it's no wonder that a lot of us are finding work exhausting, repetitive, wears us down.”Is your job wearing you down? Do you hate Mondays? Perhaps it's not your work that's the issue, but in fact the workplace culture. Before you jack it all in and start looking for gainful employment elsewhere, take a listen to Bruce Daisley. You might know Bruce Daisley from his #1 Apple business chart topping podcast Eat, Sleep, Work, Repeat on work culture.
