Send us Fan MailToday we're releasing a new episode from a brand new series called the Boundless Body Radio Heritage Series! I wanted to do something extra special to celebrate 1,000 podcast episodes recorded here at Boundless Body Radio, a milestone that we hit on June 24, 2026!These episodes are actually not new, although they might be new to you! When we first got started back in October, 2020, I was so fortunate that so many incredible people said "YES" to being hosted on the show, however, we didn't have very many listeners at the time!Today, we get thousands of downloads every single month, and are usually included in the top 150 Fitness and Nutrition Podcasts on the Apple Podcast charts! To honor our amazing guests, I will be selecting one of those original episodes and posting them here on for this special series! As I was going through these episodes again, I remembered how valuable these conversations actually were. it was really striking how much the information these experts have shared has born out to be even more accurate several years later. The audio quality of a show was not as good back then as it is now, but I still really hope you enjoy these episodes, and find them relevant and helpful to you today!Cheers, thanks as always for listening, and I really hope you enjoy this episode of the Boundless Body Radio Heritage Series!Inhale. Exhale. A breath may be simple, and you do it mostly without thinking about it, but it is incredibly important. Bestselling author and journalist James Nestor has been involved with investigating breath for over a decade. And his work is incredible. He wrote the book Deep: Freediving, Renegade Science, and What The Ocean Tells Us about Ourselves in 2014, all about the sport of free diving, literally diving to the depths of the ocean on a single breath. In 2020, he wrote the bestseller Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art, an amazing deep dive into the importance of proper breathing, why we have forgotten about its importance, and how to practically incorporate proper breathing strategies. We are so grateful for James and his work, and we are glad he took the time to speak with us today!Find James at-www.mrjamesnestor.comSpecial love to-CalmThe Oxygen Advantage by Patrick McKeownFind Boundless Body at-myboundlessbody.comFind Boundless Body at-myboundlessbody.comBook a session with us here!

This week we're chatting to one of the UK's best-selling thriller writers. Scott Mariani has published 30 novels in the 'Ben Hope series', a few more in his 'Will Bowman historical thriller adventures', and some chilling books about vampires. He writes in his sprawl of land hidden in the Welsh countryside, almost secluded with his stories. Ben Hope is an ex-SAS soldier turned reluctant hero, who finds himself in thrilling chases across the world, all centred around an historic mystery waiting to be solved. His debut, 'The Alchemist's Secret', was a number 1 bestseller for 6 weeks, although it took quite a strange route to success. Following it up with 29 more Hope novels, Scott finally retired the character... only to be drawn back to his hero a few years later. He has announced a new one, 'The Jericho Road', due to be released in 2027.We discuss why his routine is built around strict discipline, putting the words together much like a builder will make a house with bricks. Also you can hear about how he's learned what a reader wants, whether he's figured out any plotting tricks, and how he researches his globe-trotting adventures without the internet.Get a copy of the debut novel here - uk.bookshop.org/shop/writersroutineThis week's episode is sponsored by Faber Academy's 'Writing a Novel' course, which is back. The myth that aerobic conditioning steals your strength is the exact reason most experienced lifters hit an early plateau and stay chronically beat up. From running high-volume CrossFit boxes to completing a PhD in Kinesiology, Jason Brown realized that rigid, maximal-effort splits were wrecking real-world athletes who lacked the autonomic recovery to handle constant strain. By pairing full-body Conjugate rotations with targeted low-intensity conditioning, he reverse-engineered a minimum-effective-dose system that expands work capacity while protecting long-term durability. INSIDE THIS CONVERSATION Concurrent vs. Conjugate: The sports science definition versus Westside's real-world, in-the-trenches application. The Interference Effect: Why targeted aerobic work builds underlying recovery mechanisms instead of stealing strength and muscle gains. Full-Body vs. Split Routines: The three-day structural shift that improves program adherence for stressed lifters. Minimum Effective Dose: Why four to six strategically selected exercises can outperform high-volume fatigue traps. Autonomic Stress Regulation: How to leverage heart rate metrics to auto-regulate training when life caps your ability to handle additional strain. MEET THE GUEST Jason Brown is a Westside Barbell Special Strengths Coach, CSCS, author of Lower-Body Training, and Kinesiology PhD candidate. A combat veteran and former CrossFit affiliate owner who has programmed for tens of thousands of athletes worldwide, Brown specializes in refining Conjugate principles to build maximum work capacity, real-world performance, and longevity for lifelong lifters. Great service managers don't simply survive the month—they build stronger teams, improve the customer experience and create consistently profitable service departments. In this episode of Service Drive Revolution, automotive fixed operations expert Chris Collins reveals five overlooked habits that separate great dealership service managers from average ones. Great service managers: 1. Reject the status quo and continually improve their processes. 2. Know their numbers and understand how to change them. 3. Become "people collectors" who constantly recruit, develop and retain talented employees. 4. Make the customer experience easy, trustworthy and worth returning for. 5. Find coaches and mentors who challenge them to keep learning. Chris explains why dealership service departments are closed-loop systems, how tribal knowledge keeps managers trapped in outdated processes and why exceptional performance can actually make a manager's job easier—not harder. The conversation also examines service department profitability, net-to-gross, unproductive wages, CSI, NPS, technician recruiting, service advisor performance and customer retention. You'll learn why sales scripts and objection handling cannot replace customer trust, why technology such as video multipoint inspections cannot fix a broken process and why successful service managers are always recruiting. Chris also discusses former CIA intelligence officer Andrew Bustamante and his book Outsmart Everyone: Spy Skills to Gain an Unfair Advantage in Work and Life. The team explores charisma, vulnerability, intentional leadership, parenting and the ability to make genuine connections with people. This episode is for: Dealer principals General managers Fixed operations directors Service managers Parts managers Service advisors Automotive technicians Dealership and repair-shop leaders. If you want a healthier, more profitable automotive service operation, this episode provides a practical leadership framework you can immediately apply.

Have you ever caught yourself repeating a story about your life that, if you're really honest, isn't even true anymore? Maybe it's the "I had a perfect childhood" story, or the "I love my business" story, or the "I just don't know what I want to do" story. We tell ourselves these things so often we forget to check if they're real. That's exactly where this conversation with Philip McKernan took me, and honestly, it wrecked me in the best way. In this episode of The Happy Hustle Podcast, I sit down with Philip McKernan, a man who has built a global reputation for his unapologetic work with entrepreneurs. Philip has caddied golf for the president of Ireland, been chased by a bull elephant in Nigeria, made wine in Australia, traveled to 85 countries, helped build an orphanage in Peru, written five books despite being dyslexic, and directed an award winning documentary. For the past five years he's been restoring a 500 year old castle on 22 acres of Celtic rainforest on Ireland's west coast called Brave Castle, where he now hosts soul searching entrepreneurs and EO forum retreats. His whole philosophy, which he calls Soul Set, is about helping people uncover their unique gifts and use them to actually impact the world, not just talk about it. This episode matters because Philip doesn't let you hide. He has this gift, or maybe it's a curse depending on how you look at it, of hearing what people aren't saying. He calls himself insanely sensitive under all that toughness, and that sensitivity is exactly why he can spot a false narrative from a mile away. If you've ever felt like you're performing a version of your life instead of living it, this conversation is going to hit close to home. We give ourselves what we feel we deserve. Philip shared this belief that most entrepreneurs, deep down, don't fully like who they are, and that shapes everything from how they run their business to how they show up in relationships. Until you challenge that inner narrative, you'll keep recreating the same patterns no matter how much success you stack up. Life is a series of three mountains, and most people get stuck on the second one. The first mountain is about you. The second is about building something with others, your family, your business, your team. The third mountain is where it gets powerful, because that's where you turn your deepest scar into service for someone else. Philip's own mission became eradicating loneliness in the world, because loneliness was the thing he wrestled with his whole life. Busyness is often just a way to avoid feeling. Philip talked about how consuming endless information, chasing the next book or podcast, can actually be a form of running from yourself. He challenged listeners to stop consuming for a while and just sit with what comes up. Spoiler, it's usually clarity you've been avoiding. Geography quietly shapes your happiness more than we admit. Philip pointed out that so many of us build our lives in places we don't even want to be, hoping success will make it worth it. He's convinced that if you build something in a place that doesn't light you up, either it won't work, or it won't matter even if it does. Stop using so much "I" language. When Philip listens for what's really holding someone back, he notices how much people center themselves in their own fear. His advice was blunt and simple, your gift was given to you on loan, and your job is to give it away, not hoard it out of fear. By the end of our talk, Philip reminded me that the story you keep telling yourself, whether it's about your childhood, your business, or your fear, deserves to be questioned. Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is simply ask yourself, is this actually true. This is one of those episodes you'll want to listen to twice. Go catch the full conversation with Philip McKernan at https://happyhustle.com/podcast, and let it challenge the story you've been telling yourself too. What does Happy Hustlin' mean to you? Philip said it's about having a mission you're relentlessly going after, but never sacrificing who you are at the core, what you believe, or the people around you in the process. He admitted he doesn't do it perfectly, but he does it with intention. His final word was this, have something you believe in and stand for, but don't chase it at the cost of everything else, because if you do, it will never feel worth it in the end. Standard medical advice after a catastrophic muscle tear will turn a high-performance lifter into a spectator if you blindly follow it. Four months after snapping his bicep off the bone on an axle clean, National Champion Strongman Josh Hendrickson refused to sit passive in a sling and hit a max-effort box squat forty-eight hours before surgery. By defying conservative rehab models, forcing daily range of motion, and recalibrating his drive, he uncovered the psychological framework required to rebuild elite capacity without burning out. Should your dealership replace its human BDC with AI? Not so fast. In SDR #372, Chris Collins, Hogi, and Adam break down what AI phone systems can—and still can't—do inside a dealership service department. Drawing on experience inside hundreds of dealerships, the team compares AI and human BDCs based on the outcome that actually matters: loading the shop, retaining customers, and creating a better service experience. AI can be a useful tool, but it doesn't know when a technician calls out, when a repair becomes a holdover, when the shop runs out of work, or when a customer's situation requires judgment and empathy. A trained BDC employee can react in real time, build relationships, recover missed opportunities, and become part of your dealership's future advisor bench. In this episode: • Why dealerships are rushing into AI-powered BDCs • The customer-service failures that expose AI's limitations • How one dealership chatbot reportedly agreed to sell a Tahoe for $1 • Why your BDC must understand what is happening inside the shop • How outbound calls recover declined work, no-shows, and lost customers • Why a human BDC can improve retention and manufacturer maintenance utilization • How the BDC develops your next generation of service advisors • Where AI belongs today—and why dealerships shouldn't go all-in yet The question isn't simply whether AI costs less. The real question is whether you're trying to save a nickel today or build a stronger, more profitable customer base for the future. International bestselling author, educator, and global strategist Chad Robert Stewart joins Michael Jaco for an important conversation about the future of family entertainment, storytelling, education, artificial intelligence, and the next generation. At the center of Chad's work is The Britfield Dynasty—an ambitious world of novels, education, feature films, curriculum, and media designed to bring exceptional storytelling and timeless family values back to the forefront. With the first of seven planned live-action Britfield films in pre-production, Chad shares the enormous vision behind the project and why he believes there is a rapidly growing global demand for intelligent, inspiring entertainment that parents and children can experience together. Michael and Chad explore the Four Pillars of Influence and the extraordinary power storytelling has to shape culture, education, values, and generations. They also tackle one of the biggest disruptions facing humanity: artificial intelligence. Chad discusses the coming educational tsunami, the creativity crisis, and what happens when young people become increasingly dependent on technology instead of developing imagination, critical thinking, communication, and original thought. The conversation also turns to Hollywood and the entertainment industry. Chad explains why he believes the traditional Hollywood model is losing its grip while an enormous opportunity is emerging for creators who understand what families actually want—great stories, memorable characters, adventure, meaning, and values. Britfield is being built for that new era. Books. Education. Movies. Storytelling. Family values. And an entirely new generation waiting for something better. Children's fiction studio founder Jasmine Richards (Storymix), publisher Natalie Doherty (Puffin and HarperCollins Children's Books), and bestselling author Soman Chainani (The School for Good and Evil) on shaping an idea commercial enough to sell, what makes a children's book impossible to put down, and trusting the unconscious to write it. You'll learn Why the most commercial idea is the one that centres its reader from the very first thought. How a single pithy log line can carry a book all the way from the slush pile to the playground. The counterintuitive trick of starting your story at chapter three. How to read what children are reading now so your pacing keeps up with theirs. What a publisher is really looking for when a manuscript lands on the desk — and why voice comes before plot. How the categories from early readers to YA actually break down on the bookshop shelf. The difference between weaving in a message and writing a book that feels worthy. The case for never self-censoring in a first draft, and saving the negotiation for later. How tiring out your conscious mind can unlock a freer, more instinctive way to draft. Why the goal of writing should be the writing itself, not the bestseller list. Most lifters suffer through brutal competition preps not because they lack discipline, but because they are using a physical outcome to mask a broken identity. After a career-ending rugby injury shattered his athletic dreams, Ben Mayfield-Smith rebuilt his mindset by merging raw physical grit with clinical behavioral science. He developed an intensive psychological vetting system designed to expose an athlete's core motivations before they ever touch a bar—frequently talking clients out of competing to prevent their personal lives from completely collapsing. INSIDE THIS CONVERSATION The Intake Filter: Why deep psychological questions reveal whether an athlete will actually finish what they start. Identity Construction: How to build the character required for extreme goals before taking on extreme physical stress. Selective Hard Things: Why lifters willingly suffer in the gym while running away from real-world adversity. The Post-Show Collapse: The critical health phase required to salvage hormones, mindsets, and marriages after competing. Controlled Reintegration: Practical guardrails that prevent post-competition bingeing without forcing obsessive tracking. MEET THE GUEST Ben Mayfield-Smith is the Director and Head Coach of Matter Athletica and host of The Matter Mentality Podcast. Formed by a career-ending athletic injury and backed by formal clinical psychology training in Behavioral Science and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Ben bridges the gap between physical effort and mental durability. What if your service drive became one of your dealership's most powerful—and consistent—vehicle sales channels? In this episode of Service Drive Revolution, Chris Collins, Hogi, and Adam reveal how dealerships can turn everyday service appointments into organic sales and trade-in opportunities without making customers feel pressured. The key isn't occasionally sending a salesperson into the drive—it's building a dedicated system where sales and service operate as one team. You'll discover how to: • Embed dedicated salespeople inside the service department • Use equity mining to identify the right opportunities • Incentivize advisors to facilitate strong customer handoffs • Introduce trade-in conversations before the appointment • Acquire valuable used inventory without relying on auctions • Use maintenance programs to create familiarity, trust, and retention • Build toward the future "portfolio manager" model—one person managing the customer's entire ownership journey The team also breaks down leadership lessons from Hard Knocks, explains why attention reveals a leader's true priorities, and explores how great systems make exceptional performance repeatable. If your dealership has "tried selling from the service drive" before and it didn't work, this episode will show you what was probably missing. #ServiceDriveRevolution #FixedOps #AutomotiveLeadership #AutomotiveSales #ServiceDrive #DealershipTraining
What happens after the revolution? The battles have been won. Independence has been declared. A new nation has been born. But then comes the hard part: building a country. Bestselling historical fiction author Sharon Virts explores that fascinating—and often overlooked—period in her new novel, Bargains of Fate, the second book in her Fields of Honor series. The series focuses on America's "Second Generation"—the men and women who inherited the enormous responsibility of building a nation after the founding generation had passed from the scene. Virts draws on her own extraordinary connection to early American history. She is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, has five ancestors who fought for American independence, and even has a Hessian ancestor who fought on the British side. And then there's Selma, the historic Virginia home Sharon rescued and restored—a house whose history and former inhabitants have found their way into her fiction. As America approaches its 250th anniversary, Sharon Virts offers a fascinating question: What happened after the Founders? And what can the struggles, compromises, ambitions, romances, betrayals, and bargains of that next generation teach us about the country we're still becoming?
#1 Amazon Bestselling Author and advocate Paige Dearth joins CCAR Executive Director Stacy Charpentier for a powerful conversation about trauma, addiction, family, recovery, and the experiences that have shaped her writing. Paige shares how surviving childhood trauma eventually led her to find her voice and begin writing stories centered on people who are often judged, misunderstood, or overlooked. She also opens up about living alongside a loved one struggling with meth and heroin addiction, including five years, 13 rehab stays, the financial and emotional toll on the family, and her eventual realization that supporting someone and enabling them are not the same thing. Together, Paige and Stacy discuss why addiction affects entire families, the importance of seeing people as more than the labels placed on them, how small acts of kindness can change someone's life, and why healing and recovery are rarely linear. Choosing between athlete, coach, and gym owner is the only way to avoid burning out—you can only pick two. After 20 years under the barbell and totaling 2,044 raw, Chandler Parsons realized that chasing elite performance, coaching lifters, and building a gym from scratch was a fast track to physical and financial ruin. In this conversation with Dave Tate, the founder of Backyard Barbell and Fortified Iron Gym breaks down the brutal transition from breaking his body for numbers to building a sustainable business on two coasts, why "all-in" commitment requires throwing away comfortable guardrails, and the raw mechanics of running a hardcore facility that keeps its doors open. INSIDE THIS CONVERSATION The Three-Hat Trap: Why trying to simultaneously excel as a competitor, coach, and business owner guarantees failure. The True Price of 2,000+: Breaking down the severe physical breakdown, torn muscles, and chronic pain behind a 2,044-pound raw total. Hardcore Gym Economics: The business strategy that expanded Backyard Barbell from a backyard setup into successful facilities in California and Texas. Repetitive Stress vs. Longevity: Why year-round powerlifting specificity destroys intermediate lifters before they ever reach their peak. The Independent Coach Model: How structuring trainer relationships creates long-term stability without sacrificing revenue. High-Volume Off-Season System: Using strongman carries, Safety Squat Bar work, and bodybuilding-style volume to build a resilient strength base. MEET THE GUEST Chandler Parsons earned his expertise through two decades of heavy lifting, severe injuries, and the relentless grind of building strength facilities from the ground up. After beginning powerlifting at just 13 years old, he built a 2,044-pound raw total—including an 832-pound deadlift and a 520-pound bench press—before applying those hard-earned lessons to found Backyard Barbell in San Jose, California, and Fortified Iron Gym in Austin, Texas. Having coached more than 50 state, national, and world record holders, Parsons now focuses on gym ownership, business strategy, and longevity-driven strength training. Have you ever looked at a calendar packed with back-to-back, colour-coded blocks and felt a strange sense of pride? In today's workplace culture, a hectic diary isn't just a schedule—it's an identity. But what if all those reflex "yeses," endless Zoom syncs, and low-value emails are actually destroying your performance and pushing you toward burnout? In this episode of Truth, Lies & Work, host Al Elliott sits down with executive coach, author, and speaker Chris Lovett to discuss how applying a "less is more" mindset to your job can lead to radically better results. From stepping on an old 1990s CD case to convincing a senior leader to decline every meeting for a week, Chris shares actionable strategies to help you break free from busywork, reclaim your time, and become a true "corporate athlete." The Break Point: How stepping on a Mark Morrison CD case led Chris to sell almost everything he owned, board a flight to Copenhagen, and completely redefine success. The Meeting Experiment: What happened when a senior leader declined a whole week of meetings—and why only one person noticed? The "Needing to Be Needed" Trap: Why we treat calendar invitations like hits of dopamine, and how over-helping your team actually stunts their growth. Are You a Corporate Athlete? Why high performers build tactical rest into their days, and how back-to-back meetings drop your attention and engagement by up to 40%. Strategic Laziness & Small Rebellions: Tactical scripts and questions you can start using today to protect your time without burning bridges or looking uncooperative. What if the Bible isn't a rulebook, but a love story? Bestselling author, Bible teacher, and self-described "hot mess" Lisa Harper joins host David Sams on this episode of Contagious Influencers of America — and she comes bearing her battered, sticky-note-covered "ADD Bible," full of margin notes from her late father. From there, the conversation opens into some of the most tender and unguarded stories Lisa has shared on the podcast: growing up after her parents' divorce, watching her father's faith transform later in life, the winding seven-year road to adopting her daughter Missy from Haiti, and the season of "breakdown" that taught her — finally — to trust God in the dark. Lisa also talks about her devotional, Jesus: A Scandalously Devoted, Conspicuously Uncool, Super-Transparent Homage to Who Our Savior Is and How Much He Loves Us — a follow-up to her bestseller Life — and explains why, after decades of walking with Jesus, she still wants to fall in love with Him all over again. Expect Lisa's trademark mix of belly laughs and theological depth as she gets honest about counseling, singleness at 60+, and what she calls the "tactile kindness" of God. Since this interview, Lisa has continued writing and teaching — she completed her doctorate at Houston Theological Seminary earlier this year, released several more books, including her latest Song of Songs Bible Study Guide. She continues to host her popular Back Porch Theology podcast. This episode first aired December 2023.
Bestselling author and former U.S. attorney Barbara McQuade returns to Commonwealth Club World Affairs to share her exposé on the escalating threat of far-right politics—and a clear roadmap for saving our democracy. McQuade has drawn on her decades of experience as a federal prosecutor to reveal how systems of organized crime and political opportunism exploit the levers of power—using corruption, cruelty, and chaos as tools to dominate institutions and eliminate accountability. She examined the tactics of today's far-right MAGA system: information warfare, aggressive retribution, conformism enforced by fear, and pervasive dismantling of legal checks and balances necessary to defend the public interest and uphold justice. She presented her views in her new book The Fix, in which she weaves together courtroom stories, real-time political analysis, and cautionary lessons from history and democratic backsliding abroad. She argues that the threats we face are not future possibilities—they're already here. But she has more than just a warning; she has a call to action, outlining common-sense reforms and strategies that she says can reclaim the rule of law and recenter democracy with the power of the people. Please join us for the “We The People Social Hour” after the conclusion of this event, and enjoy lite bites and a no-host bar, plus lively conversation about American democracy with other attendees.
