The Redstone family is a controlling shareholder of Paramount Global — one of the biggest entertainment companies out there. (Think CBS Entertainment, MTV, Nickelodeon.) The family is also one of the inspirations for HBO's Succession, which makes sense the more you get to know them. Shari Redstone currently has the controlling stake in Paramount Global. Company leadership was carefully criticized in a recent on-air "rebuke" by 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley, who said the show was receiving new kinds of oversight amid the Trump presidency. The drama has unfolded as Redstone seeks FCC approval for a lucrative merger, and the Trump administration is suing Paramount Global for billions of dollars. This week we revisit Redstone's backstory by re-airing a conversation with Rachel Abrams, a senior producer and reporter for The New York Times Presents, and the co-author with James B. Michael's conversation with James B. Stewart, the bestselling author of "Deep State: Trump, the FBI, and the Rule of Law." There are questions that the Mueller report couldn't—or wouldn't—answer. What actually happened to instigate the Russia investigation? Did President Trump's meddling incriminate him? There's no mystery to what Trump thinks. He claims that the Deep State, a cabal of career bureaucrats—among them, Andrew McCabe, Lisa Page, and Peter Strzok, previously little known figures within the FBI whom he has obsessively and publically reviled—is concerned only with protecting its own power and undermining the democratic process. Conversely, James Comey has defended the FBI as incorruptible apolitical public servants who work tirelessly to uphold the rule of law. Original air date 8 October 2019. The book was published on 8 October 2019.

The Katherine Massey Book Club @ The C.O.W.S. hosts the 9th and final study session on James B. Stewart's Blind Eye: The Terrifying Story of a Doctor Who Got Away with Murder. Stewart is an awarding journalist, attorney, and celebrated true crime author. He nabbed a Pulitzer Prize for his work on "insider trading" and stock market malfeasance during the 1980's. Stewart also hoisted an Edgar Award for his 1999 book investigating the "smooth, good looking" but deadly Michael Swango. This White serial killer is caged at a Colorado supermax penitentiary and is suspected of having killed approximately 60 people - although no one truly knows how many murders Swango committed. Last week, we heard how Swango got cheap room and board from a White Woman in Zimbabwe who managed to hang on to black house servants in spite of Robert Mugabe. Swango hoarded bacon by the pound, stole things, sabotaged the vehicle, and maybe poisoned the house peanut butter. He also poisoned White children while successfully evading African authorities. Black female patient Rena Cooper wrote a 1989 letter to the judge who presided over her civil suit for being poisoned by Swango. She emphasizes her lack of hate for Swango and hopes he gets the help he's “asking for and needs.” Since being incarcerated for the rest of his life, Swango has adamantly refused mental health resources. This White serial killer is caged at a Colorado supermax penitentiary and is suspected of having killed approximately 60 people - although no one truly knows how many murders Swango committed. Last week, Swango's US killing operation was just about done. He was terminated from SUNY Stony Brook, and his White wife Kristen Kinney apparently killed herself. Much later on, authorities ran tests on her hair and found high levels of arsenic. Dr. Michael Baden, the same White forensic doctor who testified in the O.J. Simpson trial and examined the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, reported that prolonged, gradual arsenic poisoning produces mental deterioration, impaired thinking, and eventual death. Once Swango felt it impossible to kill as a pretend doctor here in the states, he absconded to Zimbabwe. When asked why he would choose to practice medicine in rural Africa, Swango replied: "I love the blacks." Several black nurses suspected him of being Racist, and some black patients and their families were afraid of reporting their suspicions about Swango. For the second time, James B. Stewart regales listeners with a vivid description of a White Man ramming a needle into the rectum of an African male. #RobertMugabe #WhitesDoNotSnitchOnWhites #TheCOWS14Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE: 564943#

This White serial killer is caged at a Colorado supermax penitentiary and is suspected of having killed approximately 60 people - although no one truly knows how many murders Swango committed. Last week, we heard about Swango's ouster from the University of South Dakota's residency program once they investigated his felonious background. The university assigned no blame for Swango being accepted to the school initially or for failing to consult school attorneys about Swango's felony status. He promptly packed his bags and got accepted at the State University of New Stony at Stony Brook. Once again, White staff were enamored with this charming, good-looking, English-speaking White man. The hospital workers valued Swango's White status more than the competent "foreign" doctors with peculiar accents. During this time, Swango became a regular celebrity, appearing on a number of true crime television programs. #WhitePeopleDontGetFired#TheCOWS14Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE: 564943#

This White serial killer is caged at a Colorado supermax penitentiary and is suspected of having killed approximately 60 people - although no one truly knows how many lives Swango extinguished. Last week, we heard about a troth of evidence suggesting powerful White medical workers wield extraordinary influence over White lawmakers. This impacts the price of medications and how much citizens/patients know about healthcare workers. This provides nearly impenetrable protection for the surprisingly large number of unscrupulous or criminal White doctors. Stewart cites the work of former Plain Dealer reporter Gary Webb. This is the deceased White journalist who exposed the CIA for peddling crack to black people in the US - a number of White doctors were also stealing prescription medication. Even after serving more than two years in prison and being convicted of felony battery, Swango was able to forge government documents and smooth talk his way to the University of South Dakota's medical school program. Once again, White officials ignore a White convict's work and criminal history. #TheCOWS14Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE: 564943#

This White serial killer is caged at a Colorado supermax penitentiary and is suspected of having killed approximately 60 people - although no one truly knows how many lives Swango extinguished. Last week, we heard about the "speed and ease" with which Swango acquired new employment at an Ohio hospital even while he was facing felony battery charges for poisoning his Illinois co-workers. After Swango was convicted, Robert Haller II was called as a character witness in support of Swango's good name. Haller said he did not think Swango lied on his employment application by omitting his pending felony trial. Haller doubled down and said that knowing Swango was convicted of poisoning White paramedics would not deter him from hiring Swango again. Listeners and Gus suspect Swango would have been found not guilty if he opted for a trial by jury as opposed to accepting the Judge's verdict. In the middle of all this, Ohio State University medical officials remained as codified and tight-lipped as Godfather thugs. They refused to turn over records for their internal Swango investigation and stonewalled White Illinois investigators and prosecutors who were also kept ignorant about Swango's long history of alleged poisonings and murder. #WhitePeopleDontGetFired #TheCOWS14Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE: 564943#

This White serial killer is caged at a Colorado supermax penitentiary and is suspected of having killed approximately 60 people - although no one truly knows how many lives Swango extinguished. Last week, we heard more examples of this White killer targeting colleagues who justifiably suspected Swango of misconduct. While working with the Quincy paramedics, Swango poisoned donuts and beverages of multiple White co-workers. He even called to check on the symptoms of some of his ailing colleagues. White medical officials at the Ohio State University learned that officers in Quincy, Illinois were investigating Swango for poisoning. They did not readily cooperate with the investigation or make their information on Swango's OSU tenure available to authorities. In fact, they behaved just like Eric Harris's parents following the Columbine massacre. White OSU medical officials literally buried their files in a vault, and designated one White man as the person of contact for all Swango matters. #WhitePeopleDontGetFired #TheCOWS14Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE: 564943#

Last week, we learned that many of Swango's medical school classmates were highly suspicious of him - including some who felt Swango should have been removed from school. However, this charming White fella had some students and faculty vigorously rally to his defense. Swango was was also aided by Ohio State University's abject failure to peek at any of the documents that Southern Illinois University compiled about his serious misconduct. After black female patient Rena Cooper nearly died after having suspicious contact with Swango, OSU conducted a clandestine investigation without contacting the police. Cooper believed the blond White doctor injected a poisonous solution into her IV. White hospital officials dismissed Cooper and her roommate's allegations as bogus, and Swango faced no disciplinary or criminal consequences. He was transferred with a glowing letter of recommendation. #WhitePeopleDontGetFired #ScientificWhiteFather #TheCOWS14Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE: 564943#

Letby, a White British nurse, was convicted of killing 7 infants and is suspected of more child deaths. Hadden, a White obstetrician at Columbia University (Stewart's alma mater), is accused of molesting more than 245 patients. During last week's session, Gus noted that the first paragraph of this book details a White man inserting a needle into the buttocks of an Africa male. The African fella willfully disrobed to provide Swango access. His White parents reside in a number of Racially Restricted Regions/Sundown Towns, and his dad seemed more interested in partaking in the Vietnam conflict and, likely, having sexual intercourse with non-white females. #ScientificWhiteFather #TheCOWS14Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE: 564943#

For fans of HBO's award-winning and popular “Succession” TV series, which follows the Roy family as they vie for control of their media empire, comes a new book, “Unscripted: The Epic Battle for a Media Empire and the Redstone Family Legacy.” And while the “Succession” TV series is inspired by the Murdoch family, “Unscripted” is the true story of Sumner Redstone and the Redstone family as they wrestled for control of Paramount Global, an empire that included Paramount, CBS, MTV, Nickelodeon, Showtime, and Simon & Schuster. Newt's guests are James B. Stewart, New York Times best-selling author and columnist for The New York Times, and Rachel Abrams, reporter and senior producer for the New York Times' television documentary series, The New York Times Presents.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
'Unscripted' recaps the final years of media mogul Sumner Redstone and has been billed as a true-life Succession story. The book depicts Redstone, his family and the power struggle and dysfunction within their multi-billion dollar entertainment empire Paramount Global. This story was first broke by esteemed journalists Rachel Abrams and James B Stewart, who collaborated on the book. New York Times producer and reporter Rachel Abrams says this was one of the most fascinating stories she's worked on, as it was a family drama to its core. "It is about this multi-billion dollar empire, but what it's also about is a father/daughter story. It's the story of a parent who withholds love and affection from a child who yearns for it up until the day that he dies." LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The Redstone family controls Paramount Global, formerly known as ViacomCBS, Inc., — one of the biggest entertainment companies out there. (Think CBS entertainment, MTV, Nickelodeon.) The family is also one of the inspirations for HBO's Succession, which makes sense the more you get to know them. Sure, Rupert Murdoch plays his kids off each other and broke up with one wife on email. But Sumner Redstone, who died at 97 in 2020, had a love life that shook his media empire to its core, never mind the tabloids. This week, Brooke speaks to Rachel Abrams, a senior producer and reporter for The New York Times Presents, and the co-author with James B. Stewart of Unscripted: The Epic Battle for a Media Empire and the Redstone Family Legacy.

Two public corporations, CBS and Viacom, used to be controlled by the same man, Sumner Redstone. This is the subject of a book called "Unscripted." Our guest is reporter James B. Stewart of the New York Times. He along with his co-author Rachel Abrams write in the preface of the book that: "The drama that unfolded may have occurred at Viacom and CBS, but the recent drumbeat of greed, backstabbing, plotting, and betrayal at the upper level of American business and society has hardly been confined to one or two companies, or one wealthy family and its hangers-on." Viacom and CBS merged in late 2019. The new company is called Paramount Global. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Sumner Redstone ran the Viacom media network for decades before his health began to fail. A new book takes you inside his family's world, which has been called a "real life 'Succession.'" Authors James B. Stewart and Rachel Abrams worked on Unscripted for the last three years and join to discuss the book, their reporting, and take listener calls.
The ever-evolving landscape of business, finance, entertainment, and medicine is often shaped by technological advancements and cultural changes. However, those in power during these changes often resist them and try to maintain their grip on the status quo, particularly if family is involved. This is exemplified in the TV show "Succession" and James B. Stewart's books, including "Disney Wars," "Den of Thieves," "Deep State," "Tangled Webs," and "Blood Sport." The pandemic was a transformational event for the entertainment industry, but the #MeToo movement was also a catalyst for change, with Harvey Weinstein as its poster child. Additionally, the theatrical movie business faced pressure from the ongoing streaming wars, which have altered the fabric of Hollywood. All of these forces come together in the story of Sumner Redstone, his family, and his mistresses. Redstone was a one-time movie theater magnate and the owner of Paramount, Viacom, CBS, and Simon and Schuster. In his 90s, he was surrounded by hangers-on, adversaries, family members, and a group of women whose experiences highlighted the worst of Hollywood, even in modern times. When you add the worst of corporate governance to the mix, you have the story that James B. Stewart and Rachel Abrams tell in " My conversation with James Stewart and Rachel Abrams:
Veteran business journalist James B. Stewart specializes in getting behind the scenes to tell the stories of rich, powerful, and complicated subjects. He has a doozy with “Unscripted”, the new book he co-wrote about the last days of media mogul Sumner Redstone, who at one point was one of the most powerful men in the industry, and whose decline fueled years of fighting between his family, his employees, and his mistresses. If you like tawdry tales of sex, avarice, and greed — or wanted to know some of the real-life backstories behind HBO's “Succession” — this is for you. Stewart also talks about other massive media stories he's covered, including Bob Iger's rise at Disney, and the AT&T/Time Warner shotgun marriage and divorce. Stewart also offers reporting tips and explains why his background as a lawyer helps him as a journalist. Featuring: James B. The secret inner workings of public companies, in particular media empires, usually stay secret. However, that wasn't the case in 2016 when the fate of Paramount Global, the company that included Paramount, CBS, MTV, Nickelodeon and Showtime hung in the balance. A new book, "Unscripted: The Epic Battle for a Media Empire and the Redstone Family Legacy," delves into what really happened.
Mediaite editor in chief Aidan McLaughlin speaks with New York Times reporters James B. They discuss how Paramount Global, a vast media empire including Paramount, CBS, Showtime, MTV, and Nickelodeon, nearly fell apart thanks to the lurid personal life of its owner and infighting between those vying to be his heir — including Shari Redstone, his daughter.

Twenty years have passed since 9/11. Writers Tom Junod and James B. Stewart stop by to remember and reflect on the events of that day. Bryan talks with Stewart to discuss his 2002 New Yorker piece, "The Real Heroes Are Dead," which follows Rick Rescorla—former soldier, officer, security specialist, and hero who helped save thousands of lives on 9/11—through his love story with his wife, Susan (0:53). Later, Tom Junod stops by to talk through his 2003 Esquire piece that focuses on the infamous picture of "The Falling Man." They discuss how the story came about, why finding the identity of the man in the photo was important, and how the story is received years later (27:40). For the first time, Den of Thieves describes, in detail, how the Big Four of Wall Street created the largest insider trading network in financial history, how they almost stole billions of dollars of illegal gains, and how law enforcement officials overcame all kinds of difficulties under pressure to finally succeed in attaining the sanctions and punishments that the four prime culprits deserved. The book is based on four years of extensive jury review and actual transaction records, as well as in-depth interviews and investigations.

Sinead and Kate are both Disneyland Paris Infinity Annual Passholders so we tend to focus on DLP. This week in the new we chat about the February pins for DLP, the madness that was the bib purchasing for the DLP Princess Run taking place in May (icl. pricing!), new things on their way to Disney+ and we chat about the ongoing confusion surrounding the Main Street staple which is Walt's American Diner in DLP and why on earth it is still closed?! This week we are focusing on a beloved boat, with an iconic Sherman Bro's song that everyone loves to hate - the one, the only It's A Small World! We go through the history of the ride and what makes it a true trip staple for both us and millions of other Disney Parks goers. While we can only record every second week we thought we would give you some recommendations for some podcasts we are loving at the minute to help fill the void! Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist James B. Stewart is the author of the number-one New York Times bestseller Den of Thieves, the story of the most notorious insider-trading ring in financial history; DisneyWar, the boardroom imbroglio about the bitter struggle for control of the secretive corporation; and Blind Eye, the account of a coldblooded doctor who moonlighted as a serial killer. A New York Times columnist and journalism professor at Columbia University, he is a frequent contributor to the New Yorker and is a former editor at the Wall Street Journal. In Deep State, Stewart offers a definitive account of the war between the current President and America's largest law enforcement agencies, which ventures into new and disturbing territory the Mueller probe could not approach. (recorded 10/23/2019)
The world is a complex place. The news comes at us at hyper-speed and 24/7. All while we have to deal with family, work and life. Therefore more than ever, it’s critical that there are those among us, journalists mostly, whose job it is to distill and explain events to us. Not to tell us how or what to think, but to present the big stories in-depth and in a narrative that allows us to be smarter about the world, and refine how we are to live in it. Few do this better than James B. Stewart. He has been doing it for years with books such as Blood Sport, Den of Thieves, and Disney Wars. Now with his latest Deep State: Trump, the FBI, and the Rule of Law, he takes us deep inside what we’ve all lived through for the past three years. The investigation of Hillary Clinton’s emails and of Trump, Russia, Comey and the Mueller Report. All of which has lead us to where we are today. My conversation with James B. Stewart:
James B. Stewart is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist whose new book "DEEP STATE: Trump, the FBI and the Rule of Law" tries to place in context the myriad events and people who've emerged in the dizzying last three years as part of the storyline that is the Trump presidency.
Former Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs - Richard Stengel - and Journalist and Author of “Deep State” - James B. Stewart, join Michael Isikoff and Daniel Klaidman on "Skullduggery." Stengel breaks down the information war, how it has lead to our current political state, and the lasting damage Trump has done by pulling troops out of Syria. Then Stewart explains the origins of the term "deep state" and how it's being used to the Presidents benefit. Impeachment is also on the table as well as the arrests of two Giuliani associates who helped him on Ukraine. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
James B. Stewart is the author of Heart of a Soldier, the bestsellers Blind Eye and Blood Sport, and the blockbuster Den of Thieves. He is currently a columnist for the New York Times and a professor at Columbia Journalism School, and in 1988 he won a Pulitzer Prize for his reporting on the stock market crash and insider trading. Emma and Chloe discuss the recent election result in Australia and what it means for the environment. What should people worried about climate change do now? To explore that question, they go back and look at former PM Bob Hawke’s environmental legacy and the role he played in saving Antarctica from mining. They discuss how environmental wins come about and how the landscape has changed since Hawke. How do we talk about climate change today and why isn’t that translating into action? What kind of communication works, and why? Why are we so obsessed with market solutions and tech billionaires? On this week's Friday with Friends listener interaction show, I'm featuring another discussion topic that was suggested by one of our listeners. Nate Evans, who is the husband of one of our regular guests Sarah Evans, recently started reading the book "Disney War" by James B. Stewart and thought it would be a great idea to talk about some of Disney's CEO's. So, this week, we're going to talk about none other than Michael Eisner, who was CEO of The Walt Disney Company from 1984 - 2005. Together, we'll look at some of his successes and failures as well as pull back the curtain to reveal some of the dramatic confrontations that happened behind the scenes during his time with the company.
Join Dan (@drusyniak) &Howard (@heshiegreshie) as they speak with Dr. Brent Furbee about Orville Lynn Majors, Jr. a nurse serial killer who was convicted of the murder of 7 patients, but was likely involved in countless others. Find out why nurses know, doctors deny, and administrators push back. Learn why bolus potassium is like a Japanese train during rush hour, find out our favorite physician killers, and why Dan is now heretofore known as “675”. . . Delicious Links Weren't scared enough by the episode? Awake Under Anesthesia should do just the trick. . . Read about our main subject in the Trial of Orville Lynn Majors, Jr. Another article here. Always trust the nurses. The literature that provided the information to help crack the case. The clinical syndrome of potassium intoxication. And some additional evidence. Some kinetic information about central bolus injections of potassium chloride, and the pharmacokinetics of bolus potassium for you to geek out on. If you've never been to Japan, here's a visual for the “packing of the train” traveling potassium quanta analogy. Both sides of the potassium coin. Hypokalemic periodic paralysis. Don't forget barium poisoning and toluene abuse and it's mechanism behind the RTA. #FOAMtox More murder! Blind Eye, by James B. Stewart, the story of serial killer doctor Michael Swango. Must Read. The Devil in the White City, by Erik Larson. Recounts the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago and the serial killer physician H. H. Holmes and his “murder castle.” They called him Dr. Death. The story of Christopher Duntsch. Also a podcast, but you don't need another one, do you? Special Thanks Thank you for your continued support. NYT reporters Ellen Gabler, James B. Stewart and Rachel Abrams worked together to expose Les Moonves' attempts to bury a sexual assault allegation against him. The trio shared the backstory with Brian Stelter -- from tracking down sources to digging into boardroom drama. The big unknown now: Will Moonves still receive a $120 million payout?
This week on Sinica, Kaiser speaks with Lucy Hornby, the deputy bureau chief of the Financial Times in Beijing and a veteran guest on the show. She has appeared on Sinica before to discuss professional representation for women in China, the last surviving comfort women in the country, and domestic environmental challenges. The two discuss shadow banking in China and its history; the cat-and-mouse relationship between regulators and shadow financiers; the advent of fintech and the proliferation of peer-to-peer (P2P) lending platforms; and Lucy’s reporting on a pyramid scheme involving selenium-infused wheat in Hebei. What to listen for this week on the Sinica Podcast: 11:15: Lucy responding to Kaiser’s question on perceptions of shadow lending in China: “You see repeated attempts by the Chinese state to shut this down. And also the words that they use around it: shadow banking, private banking, private financiers, capitalists… They’re very much painted in a negative light. But at the same time, some of China’s biggest entrepreneurs have said they would never have gotten started or been able to make it through a downturn [without a shadow loan].” 13:02: Lucy points out that in the lead-up to the financial crisis of 2008, the state took control of building housing from private investors: “This cutoff in loans [to private entities] happened roughly around the time you had the global financial crisis and the Chinese government putting out a massive stimulus plan…and suddenly if you can make a 30 percent profit on something, you can take out a 20 percent loan… That's when you really had this explosion of shadow banking that reached into every sector of the economy.” 30:35: “The other thing I think a lot of people don’t realize is that Chinese shadow financing has flowed into peripheral countries… A lot of Mongolian entrepreneurs turn to that shadow financing, and you even had some who then took that and repackaged it at higher rates to Mongolian retail customers. So, that means that basically the nation of Mongolia is now completely exposed to the Chinese shadow banking sector.” 42:15: To conclude the discussion, Lucy provides a bird’s-eye view: “I think your point about China’s need for flexible financing is a real one, and that’s going to continue. But I think what we’re also seeing is a massive deleveraging and default of all these boom years into the pockets of the average Chinese person.” Recommendations: Lucy: Den of Thieves, by James B. Stewart, the tome-like account of the junk bond trading craze of the 1980s, and The China Dream, by Joe Studwell. Kaiser: Two books by Stephen R. Platt: Imperial Twilight: The Opium War and the End of China’s Last Golden Age and Autumn in the Heavenly Kingdom: China, the West, and the Epic Story of the Taiping Civil War.
Meredith and Kaytee are back in your earbuds for a show that ended up having heavier subject matter than we'd expected. You’ll hear a “bookish moment of the week” from each of us (and a surprise vocal appearance by Meredith's Boston Terrier, Cooper - oops!) and we'll go over a few of the books we’ve finished reading lately. Then we’ll chat about what’s next up on the TBR pile. This episode includes an accidental foray into non-fiction books, because we have a lot of words about them this week! Next, we both discuss the ways we keep track of our reading: spreadsheets, journals, and apps. We finish up with A Book (yep, capitalized) that we’d like to put into every reader’s hands: something that has consistently ranked on our favorites list or been well-beloved by the people in our lives that we’ve convinced to read it. Perhaps it will become one of your favorites as well. Time-stamped show notes are below with references to every book we mentioned in this episode. This week Team MMOM does a deep dive on the book DisneyWar by James B. Stewart. Looking at the book affords the Team the opportunity to closely examine the Eisner era. Kip has the Backpage.
James B. Stewart is the Bloomberg professor of business journalism (November 12, 2012).
The number of prominent people who lie under oath has reached epic proportions, according to Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist James B. Stewart. For wealthy, successful people like Barry Bonds, Scooter Libby, Martha Stewart and Bernard Madoff, the risks of perjury far outweigh the possible benefits, yet they lie anyway. Stewart visits Zócalo to discuss why they do it and what it means for the rest of us.
