In this episode the guys break down the six best lifts for athletic fitness — the movements that translate directly to real world performance, sport and everyday life. They cover lunges and sled work, the standing overhead press, trap bar deadlift, one arm rows with rotation and pull ups, hanging leg raises done correctly, and band and cable chops for rotational power. They also reminisce about their worst business failures — Sal's second studio location that cost him 75K to break the lease, Adam's mobile car detailing hustle, Justin's app build, and Doug's story of losing his entire Japan savings to a fraudulent investment group that got raided by the IRS mid-call. Then they answer questions from Instagram on Bulgarian split squat imbalances, swapping exercises in MAPS 15 Powerlift, which program fixes imbalances and unlocks squat depth, and how to pair sprint intervals with strength training. Air Date: 6/24/2026 The Monthly-ish Mix™ is here to get you caught up on recent news without being overwhelming! If you've been pulling back from the news for your own sanity, this one's built for you — a quick recap and reference guide to the past month or two, organized around a single idea: when power can't earn legitimacy, it manufactures it. The performance. Spectacle, religion, and health branding standing in for real consent: Trump collecting a FIFA "peace prize," Christian nationalism worn as a costume the actual church refuses to bless, and RFK Jr. dressing up a gutted vaccine agenda as "moderate," scapegoating immigrants as he goes, while the USAID cuts run up a body count. The machinery. The infrastructure that keeps the performance going while real consent drains away underneath: a legal system bent toward self-dealing and a $1.8 billion slush fund, billionaire money rewriting the rules since Citizens United, an AI gold rush sold as inevitable before anyone voted on it, and an economy booming on paper while the ground shifts under everyone's feet. The vacuum and the reclaiming. What rushes in when legitimacy collapses, from normalized political violence to a manifesto born of that collapse — and then the democratic answer: why the rupture hasn't come, why revolutions tend to devour themselves, and why the slower work wins. Nonviolent movements draw eleven times the participation, and the ballot box the Supreme Court is fighting hardest to narrow is the same one that just turned out 78% of Hungary to remove Orbán. In this episode, we are joined by Shannon Lee Simmons—Certified Financial Planner, Chartered Investment Manager, bestselling author, and founder of the New School of Finance—for a wide-ranging conversation about the emotional side of money. Drawing on more than two decades of working directly with Canadians, Shannon explains why financial stress has become so pervasive, how social comparison shapes spending habits, and why a well-built financial plan can be one of the most powerful antidotes to money anxiety. We also explore decision-making during financial crises, the psychology of regret, why traditional budgeting often fails, and how couples navigate money differently—particularly in retirement. Shannon shares practical frameworks for aligning spending with personal values, avoiding emotional financial mistakes, and helping households make confident decisions through life's biggest transitions. Key Points From This Episode: (0:03:56) Why people worry about money—and why financial uncertainty often feels like uncertainty about life itself. (0:04:24) Why so many middle- and upper-income Canadians still feel broke despite earning good incomes. (0:05:18) The importance of having a financial plan and reducing harmful social comparison. (0:06:55) How social media fuels overspending, comparison, and "financial dysmorphia." (0:08:35) Why cashless spending has fundamentally changed our relationship with money. (0:13:36) Practical ways to manage financial stress, restore confidence, and build resilience. (0:15:55) The growing "spending arms race" and how rising expectations have redefined what's considered normal. (0:18:09) Why Shannon dislikes traditional budgeting—and what to do instead. (0:20:32) Her four-bucket framework for worry-free spending and maintaining financial flexibility. (0:22:35) A practical test for deciding whether a large purchase is truly affordable. (0:25:01) Aligning spending decisions with personal values using an "emotional return on investment." (0:28:12) Helping couples navigate different financial priorities without turning disagreements into conflict. (0:30:28) Separating good decisions from bad outcomes to overcome financial regret. (0:33:48) The major financial decision crises people commonly face—from divorce to illness to retirement. (0:35:16) Using "micro financial plans," guardrails, and scenario planning during periods of uncertainty. (0:37:45) The three phases of a financial decision crisis and how planners can help through each stage. (0:41:41) Why retirement often reveals differences in couples' relationships with money that never surfaced while saving. (0:45:19) The psychological challenge of withdrawing from investment portfolios after decades of accumulation. (0:46:41) Using cash wedges and realistic retirement projections to reduce anxiety around spending in retirement. (0:49:42) How saver-versus-spender dynamics can evolve into power struggles during retirement. (0:53:12) The question almost every client is really asking: "Am I going to be okay?" (0:54:41) Why planners should ask about clients' hidden DIY investment accounts. (0:56:21) The risks of becoming emotionally attached to concentrated investment gains. (0:57:16) The most impactful parts of a financial plan: realistic spending projections and actionable next steps. (0:58:25) How often financial plans should be updated—and when life events require immediate revisions. (1:01:08) Who benefits most from fee-only planning and who may be better served with ongoing advice. (1:07:00) Why implementation—not recommendations—is often the hardest part of financial planning. (1:10:00) The strengths and trade-offs of fee-only planning versus assets-under-management advice models. (1:15:05) Shannon's advice for improving financial well-being: build a plan, focus on your own values, and stop comparing yourself to everyone else. BAD BOYS BAD BOYS WHATCHA WATCHIN' DOIs this you? If so, you're under arrest!-Loves Pornography-Martial Arts?-No GirlfriendThis week we're talking all about The Killer™ Wendy Williams under our Whatcha Watchin' vertical. You should be able to guess what that means:
What if the problem isn't that God has left you—but that he's leading you somewhere you never expected to go? Few experiences are more unsettling for a Christian than the feeling that God has become distant. You pray, read Scripture, attend church, and try to stay faithful, yet the warmth and certainty you once felt seem to disappear. When that happens, many of us immediately assume we've done something wrong. We begin searching for the mistake, wondering why God feels absent and how we can get back to where we used to be. In the first episode of our short summer series, Beach Reads for Real Life, listen in as John Tinnin talks about the book When God Seems Distant: Surprising Ways God Deepens Our Faith and Draws Us Near by Kyle Strobel & John Coe. The authors challenge the assumption that the Christian life should be a steady climb from one spiritual high to the next. Instead, they show how God often does some of his deepest work in seasons of uncertainty, silence, and longing—times when we can't rely on feelings and are invited to trust him in new ways. What makes this book so refreshing is its honesty. Rather than offering quick fixes or formulas for getting God back, it gives language to feelings many believers experience but rarely discuss. The authors invite us to stop treating the spiritual life like a self-improvement project and begin seeing it as a relationship that often grows through vulnerability, dependence, and surrender. For anyone who has ever wondered why God feels far away, this book offers both comfort and a different way of understanding the journey. In this episode of the Tactical Living Podcast, hosts Coach Ashlie Walton and Sergeant Clint Walton talk about a word that gets thrown around constantly in law enforcement and emergency services — wellness — and what it actually means when you strip away the department checkbox, the mandatory briefing, and the poster on the break room wall. Real wellness for first responders does not look like a yoga class or a mindfulness app. It does not fit neatly into a one-size-fits-all program designed by people who have never worked a shift. This episode is an honest, grounded conversation about what taking care of yourself actually looks like when you are working rotating shifts, carrying trauma, raising a family, and trying to hold it all together without anyone seeing the seams.
Today on Karl and Crew, we kicked off our weekly theme, “Temptation,” by discussing various temptations with experts in their respective fields and how they overcome them. Our first guest, Dr. David Nelms, spoke about the temptation of pride in ministry. He emphasized the importance of giving God the glory, empowering others, and resisting the urge to protect one’s position or seek recognition for one's accomplishments. Dr. Nelms is the Founder of The Timothy Initiative. Next, we welcomed Arlene Pellicane, who addressed digital temptations in the home. She explained how distractions from phones, social media, news, and screens can draw parents away from God and their families. Arlene also offered practical suggestions for reclaiming connection and fostering a happier home. She is a speaker, author, and host of the Happy Home podcast. Finally, Dr. Drew Dickens joined us to discuss the temptations associated with artificial intelligence. He highlighted how tools that complete our half-formed thoughts can lure believers into sacrificing vulnerability, personal growth, and their authentic voice for speed and polished results. Dr. Dickens is an AI expert, the founder of the Encountering Peace app, and the author of “Whispers of the Spirit: A 40-Day Guide to Intimate Prayer.” You can catch the highlights from today’s program on the Karl and Crew Showcast. In this episode, I discuss pitfalls of unhealthy masculinity, including a lack of self control, lack of restraint, and a lack of ability to constrain themselves. A lot of men have confused healthy masculinity with excess, gluttony, and overconsumption, being overly concerned with porn, drinking and eating in excess, following tons of titty accounts on Instagram, and other fast but empty pleasures.-Secrets of a Witch is a podcast by writer, artist, and spiritual teacher Sabrina Scott. In this week's episode of the podcast, Colleen gets honest about what it's really like to homeschool multiple neurotypes at once—and how you can stop trying to make one-size-fits-all solutions work for wildly different brains. She talks about building flexible rhythms that respect your children's unique needs (and your sanity!), why chasing the "perfect" curriculum isn't the answer, and practical ways you can manage energy instead of just managing lesson plans. Key Takeaways Ditch One-Size-Fits-All: Stop trying to teach every child the same way—build flexible rhythms that honor each brain's unique needs. Focus on Energy, Not Just Curriculum: Prioritize managing everyone's energy and support needs over finding the "perfect" curriculum. Rotate, Station, Solo: Structure your day with rotating support, creative stations, and independent solo work to keep kids engaged and supported. Fair Isn't Equal: Remember that fairness means giving each child what they need, not making everything the same for everyone. Adapt as You Go: Stay flexible—needs change daily and seasonally, so keep mixing, matching, and pulling from your toolbox of strategies Links and Resources from Today's Episode Thank you to our sponsors: CTC Math – Flexible, affordable math for the whole family! In Don't Write Back, Sam Fleury teaches from Matthew 5:7 on what it means to be merciful. This message explores why we often want justice for others and mercy for ourselves, how grace and mercy are different, and how followers of Jesus are called to forgive, release revenge, and live with active compassion. Here's to finding the community and connection your soul craves (and God created you for!) in a world that is tempting us to disconnect. My friend, Ashlee Gadd, wrote a new book alongside a handful of other authors that blends beautiful encouragement, essays, recipes, and tips from a gospel-centered approach to community and friendship. It's raw, it's honest, and it's life-giving. We're diving into what friendship looks like in busy seasons, how to stay consistent, the freedom to host without pressure of perfection, and leaning in when the world tells us to lean away from one another. With faith at the cornerstone, this episode is refreshing and like a whisper of rest. You're in good company, friend. Watch Truth Talks with Tara on YouTube here! The recent Pentagon releases of declassified files detailing sightings of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs) has piqued the interest of UFO enthusiasts and curious Americans alike. But despite increased transparency, a lack of hard evidence remains. Why do many of us want to believe there is intelligent life out there somewhere? And if scientists found that evidence, would we even accept it? --- Guest: Adam Frank, University of Rochester astrophysicist Host: David Rind Producer: Paola Ortiz Showrunner: Felicia Patinkin Photo By: AP (Associated Press) Learn more about your ad choices.
