In this dark and thrilling episode, I sit down with comics legends Matt Wagner and Kelley Jones to talk about their gothic team-up on a new Dracula graphic novel series — a fresh, nightmarish take on the Lord of the Undead that blends Hammer horror, classic literature, and modern comics craft. We also dive deep into their iconic Batman work. Matt Wagner reflects on his acclaimed retellings of the Dark Knight's formative years in Batman and the Monster Men and Batman and the Mad Monk, grounded updates of the original Detective Comics stories that shaped Gotham's early shadows. Meanwhile, Kelley Jones revisits his unforgettable Batman: Red Rain, a horror-infused Elseworlds classic that reimagines Batman as a literal creature of the night — a vampire battling Dracula himself. Plus: Kelley's eerie, emotional Deadman mini-series, their shared love of horror as mythmaking, and what it means to push iconic characters into darker, more psychological terrain. A must-listen for fans of Batman, monsters, and the art of gothic reinvention.

Nestor Carbonell Live on Game Changers With Vicki Abelson Nestor Carbonell has it all. A beautiful wife, great kids, a wildly successful career spanning three plus decades, which is hotter than ever, with two hit shows streaming (The Morning Show on Apple TV, and Pulse on Netflix), a brand new film in theatres (Motherland), a sparkling Emmy award (for Shōgun), his first feature about to be cast, an episode of Law & Order to direct, and a beard being grown for a greenlit new movie he's soon to shoot. That's just part of the story. What he also has in abundance is humility, accessibility, warmth, kindness, sweetness, and he's hotter than ever to gaze upon, too. Those insanely dark-rimmed eyes, which he swears are natural, sans “paint” (my new favorite word for make-up), thank you, Nestor, are awfully fun to feast upon, too. He's the whole enchilada, and I say that with all due respect, and the Harvard grad is due a lot! We've been having a Nestor Carbonell film festival over here for the past week, and barely scratched the surface. Last night alone, we watched Motherland, also available to rent at home, The Dark Knight, which I hadn't seen since it dropped, what a star-studded extravaganza that is, with a brilliant Heath Ledger in his final film, and, the latest episode of The Morning Show, where Nestor's Yanko continues to evolve before our eyes, as does the show. Tonight we'll get back to our Lost binge; we haven't even gotten to Nestor's run yet. I'm exhausted just watching the guy. How the hell does he manage it all? This conversation spoke to Nestor's easy, self-effacing generosity of spirit. We touched on his parents, his background, early education, that crazy college, finding acting, how he broke in and through, the work, some tricks of his trade, meeting his bride of two decades, Shannon Kenny, her talents, can't wait to read her All Is Not Lost (on order!), managing career and kids, the sacrifices, getting through the pandemic, how it's changed him, the work, and the world, and, at each turn, he asked about me––quite a guy. As versatile and compelling as he is on screen, is as focused and charming as he is in life. Nestor's an anomaly. The total package. If something's missing, I missed it. How fun to keep watching and looking. Ezra Miller (Fantastic Beasts, Perks of Being a Wallflower) stars as Barry Allen aka The Flash, who uses his speed to travel back in time to prevent his mother's murder—only to unravel the multiverse and trigger dangerous consequences. The film features Michael Keaton (Batman 1989, Birdman) returning as Bruce Wayne / Batman in an iconic comeback, alongside Ben Affleck (Justice League, Argo) reprising his version of the Dark Knight. Sasha Calle (The Young and the Restless) makes her debut as Kara Zor-El / Supergirl, bringing fresh energy to the Superman legacy. The Brave and the Bold. Dave Bautista hypet Highlander-rebootThere can be only one.

Glen is also the author of The Caped Crusade: Batman and the Rise of Nerd Culture, a sharp, witty, and deeply researched look at how the Dark Knight has evolved across comics, TV, and film — and how fandom itself has grown right alongside him. From campy '60s TV to grim '80s reinventions, and into Batman's role as a billion-dollar movie icon, Glen traces how this one character became a mirror for changing tastes, anxieties, and obsessions in American culture. We'll dig into what makes Batman such a singular figure, what The Caped Crusade uncovers about us as fans, and where Gotham's greatest detective might be headed next. This talk happened in 2016

9/15/25 - We sit down with Samuel Morales, one of the creators behind The Official List of 100 Movies Every Catholic Should See, a two-year project that brings together films from across genres, eras, and cultures to highlight stories that resonate with the Catholic imagination. More than just a “religious movie list,” the project explores how both explicitly faith-based films and secular classics can reveal truth, beauty, goodness, and the drama of human virtue and vice. We discuss how cinema, through its art, storytelling, and emotional power, can form the imagination, spark deeper reflection, and even aid in evangelization by helping Catholics become discerning viewers rather than passive consumers. From timeless masterpieces like Star Wars to modern blockbusters like The Dark Knight, the list challenges audiences to see film not just as entertainment but as a way of encountering moral and spiritual truths that speak directly to the human heart. It's another sexy, sexy entry into #Sextember 3: Ménage a Trois. We are talking about 1985's STREETWALKIN'. STREETWALKIN' was made by Roger Corman's Concorde Pictures during a time he thought he was making movies for New World Pictures. Directed by Joan Freeman and stars Melissa Leo (THE FIGHTER) and Dale Midkiff (PET SEMETARY). STREETWALKIN' follows Cookie and Tim who try to make it big in the Big Apple. Cookie becomes a prostitute and Tim wanders around the city with no parental supervision. What could go wrong? Marc talks about the challenges of ordering Chinese food late at night. Marc has a bold take on Shutter Island - a movie he, evidently hates and Erica only remembers "seeing". Ryan tells a really fun story about how he used to put the DARK KNIGHT on every time that Erica left the room. It's a really funny story except Marc doesn't understand what they're talking about at all. We take a break to ask questions about people who drop a number a number two at night clubs. Did they just not prepare to spend a few hours at a club? Is it always a digestive emergency? Either way, it says something about you as an individual when you confidently take a poop in the dirty bathrooms of a nightclub. Also, is this a sequel to Day of the Dead? It could be. It probably is. It should be.

Aaron Alexander & John Humphrey take on the outrageous 2002 spoof comedy Austin Powers in Goldmember, the third film in the beloved spy parody franchise directed by Jay Roach (Meet the Parents, The Campaign). Mike Myers (Wayne's World, Shrek) once again delivers multiple hilarious performances as Austin Powers, Dr. Evil, Fat Bastard, and the eccentric villain Goldmember. This time, Austin teams up with Foxxy Cleopatra, played by Beyoncé (Dreamgirls, The Lion King), to stop Dr. Evil and Goldmember from using a time machine to take over the world. The ensemble cast includes Michael York (Logan's Run) as Basil Exposition, Robert Wagner (Hart to Hart) as Number Two, Seth Green (Family Guy, Robot Chicken) as Scott Evil, and Verne Troyer as Mini-Me. The film also features memorable cameos from Tom Cruise, Gwyneth Paltrow, Danny DeVito, Steven Spielberg, Britney Spears, and Kevin Spacey in the iconic opening sequence. Packed with over-the-top humor, outrageous disguises, the hilarious "Hard Knock Life" rap with Dr. Evil and Mini-Me, and plenty of pop-culture references, Goldmember cemented itself as one of the most quotable and absurd entries in the Austin Powers series. Whether it's Austin's awkward reunion with his father Nigel Powers (Michael Caine, The Dark Knight, The Cider House Rules), Beyoncé's stylish spy antics, or Goldmember's bizarre obsession with gold, the movie remains a nostalgic comedy trip and a defining parody of early 2000s pop culture. In this exclusive conversation, Matt Fraction joins me to discuss the launch of Batman #1 and the beginning of his ambitious new run at DC Comics. Fraction pulls no punches as he talks about his bold reinterpretation of Gotham City and its darkest corners. We dig into his surprising new take on Killer Croc, explore the emotional fallout of Batman's ongoing struggle without Alfred, and break down the striking redesign of Gotham as a city under siege.Fraction also teases the shocking status quo shift for Jim Gordon—demoted to beat cop—and how Vandal Savage has twisted his way into control of both the Gotham Police and the city itself. This is the start of what promises to be a sweeping, character-driven saga that redefines the Dark Knight's world from the ground up.

This week, we return to our series on the films of Christopher Nolan by diving headfirst into The Dark Knight — the movie that convinced an entire generation that growling equals gravitas. From Heath Ledger's chaos-icon Joker to a Batman so serious he makes taxes look fun, we're dissecting the film's themes, IMAX spectacle, and how Hans Zimmer's score is a nerve-shredding symphony of dread. Is it a superhero movie? A crime epic? A two-and-a-half-hour TED Talk on moral ambiguity? Maybe all of the above. One thing's clear: The Dark Knight isn't just another cape flick — it's a cinematic flex that made critics panic, rewrote Oscar history, and left us all quoting a clown in face paint like he was Shakespeare. ----more---- Thank you so much for listening! Fallout Season 2 leans into New Vegas energy and looks ready to give Walton Goggins even more to chew on. Lego Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight plays like a full Arkham style experience in a lighter package. World of Warcraft Midnight lands with a striking Silvermoon set piece and a clear villain in Zalatath while sparking questions about the light aligned reinforcements. Midnight launches with three raids, eight dungeons, delves, and a prey system that targets you in the open world for dynamic encounters. Housing is fully free form with place anywhere decoration, neighborhood vibes, and recipes scattered across old zones and dungeons, which brings back legacy professions and exploration. Built in raid tools and UI polish aim to raise the floor for everyone, not just add on users. Brand owned shows like BlizzCon deliver clarity, atmosphere, and community rituals. Trade shows give reach and variety but can dilute focus. Memorable Quotes “Hollow Knight Silksong got a release date. I am beyond excited.” “Lego Batman is straight up a new Arkham game. Who knew that would be the most complete Batman experience.” “Lor'themar finally got his moment to be the badass I always wanted him to be.” “Three raids at launch is a return to a cadence that actually fits how people play now.” “Housing should pull you back into old Azeroth and make those zones feel alive again.” Call to Action Enjoyed the episode?
