How can we truly believe we're "always enough" while acknowledging we're "never done" growing - especially as mothers who constantly feel inadequate? In this transformative episode of Whinypaluza, host Rebecca Greene sits down with licensed professional counselor and bestselling author Erica Bonham to explore the powerful concept behind her book title "Always Enough, Never Done." Erica, a certified EMDR clinician, trainer, and ketamine-assisted psychotherapist, specializes in serving the LGBTQ community, abuse recovery, and trauma related to social and racial injustice. The conversation delves into nervous system regulation, the challenges of perfectionism in parenting, and how we can break cycles of shame-bound beliefs while supporting our children's sense of self-worth. Erica shares her expertise on EMDR therapy and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy and offers invaluable guidance for parents supporting LGBTQ children. This episode is packed with wisdom about healing trauma, understanding our inherent worthiness, and creating a more inclusive world for our families.5 Key Takeaways ➤ The Paradox of Worthiness: You are "always and already enough, lovable, worthy and inextricably connected to every other living thing on this planet" AND you're in a constant state of growth and evolution - both truths can coexist without contradiction. ➤ Trauma Lives in the Body: Knowledge alone isn't enough to heal trauma because it's stored in the nervous system, not the frontal lobes. This is why body-based approaches like EMDR and somatic practices are essential for lasting change. ➤ Model Self-Compassion for Your Children: The best gift we can give our children is to deconstruct our own shame-bound beliefs first. Children see through our words to our actions and energy - we must genuinely believe in our own worthiness.➤ Create Space for Difficult Conversations: Whether discussing LGBTQ issues, race, or other sensitive topics, approach them with curiosity, acknowledge your learning process, and focus on creating a world where everyone feels safe and valued.➤ Healing is Both Individual and Collective: Personal nervous system regulation and trauma healing directly impact how we show up in relationships and communities, creating a ripple effect that contributes to collective healing.Memorable Quotes from Erica"Trauma doesn't give a shit what we know. Your vagus nerve connects the brain stem to the gut - it doesn't connect to the frontal lobes. So we can know all kinds of things, but when we're activated, all of that goes right out the window.""If you wouldn't say what you're saying to yourself to your daughter, if you wouldn't want that for your child - and if somebody showed up for your kid the way you show up for yourself, you'd be like 'get away from my kid, you're dangerous' - then maybe we need to shift that."How to Reach Erica BonhamWebsite: https://www.avoscounseling.com/ (for signed book copies and coaching packages)Book: "Always Enough, Never Done" (available on Amazon or signed copies via website) Instagram: @avoscounselingFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/avoscounseling/TikTok: @ericabonhamsomaticcoach  YouTube: @ejbonham1207 Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode, we look at the hidden pain of betrayal, emphasizing that both the betrayed and the betrayer experience deep emotional turmoil. We explore the myths surrounding infidelity, the importance of facing one's pain, and the necessity of mutual understanding in the healing process. Key Takeaways: Betrayed partners often feel worse while the betrayer appears unscathed. Pain avoidance leads to deeper issues later on. Indicators of healing include facing pain honestly and openly. Mutual understanding of pain is crucial for healing. Compassion does not mean excusing harmful behavior. Healing requires acknowledging grief and loss. Both partners must confront their own pain for true healing. Real change involves recognizing the impact of one's actions. Healing is a choice that requires active participation. Understanding each other's pain can liberate both partners. After being told by doctors there was nothing she could do to improve her situation, Monica took matters into her own hands—overcoming failed IVF cycles and miscarriages to eventually become both an IVF mom and naturally pregnant. Her story is one of radical self-trust, deep healing, and uncovering the power of the subconscious mind. We talk about how Monica went beyond functional medicine to address the emotional and energetic roots of infertility, and how that inner work ultimately helped her not only become a mother but build a business that's fully aligned with who she is. All proceeds benefit St. Jude Research Hospital. Festivities will begin at 10 AM. More info at BenandTravis.com/Dodgeball The first half of my summer has been pretty! So I took a little break from the Friday Refresh for a couple of weeks. I got to hang out a day or two with some spiritual heroes of mine, Halo and Rhonda Fernandez as my family helped them prepare for a VBS in Munford Alabama. Then Travis and I spent a little time in Lexington, Kentucky with the North Lexington Church of Christ for a mental health workshop. After being home a few short days I took off with a few members of my family and we road tripped from North Alabama to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We went about four days on the beautiful Mackinac Island for my daughter's Senior Trip and then saw some waterfalls and NFL football stadiums on the way home. After barely resting we spent the week in one of my favorites places on earth — Maywood Christian Camp. Such great memories from over 30 straight years of spending a week of my summer there. I'm joined once again by Laurie James for a conversation that bridges nervous system healing, somatic experiencing, and attachment work. If you've ever felt overwhelmed or disconnected in relationships, this episode will help you understand why and what to do about it. Laurie isn't just a coach and author, she's someone who's done the deep work to regulate her nervous system after divorce and heartbreak. In this episode, she shares how her body responded completely differently to a recent breakup, not with panic, but with presence. That's what nervous system healing looks like in real time. We also dig into attachment styles: how to identify your own, how they show up in anxious or avoidant behaviors, and how somatic work can support real change. Most importantly, we talk about how to stop trying to fix or override your system and start building safety within it. This is about meeting yourself where you are and knowing that real healing is possible. Here's what else we discuss in this episode: What somatic experiencing actually is and how it supports healing (7:31) How your autonomic nervous system operates and what shifts when you engage it intentionally (9:42) The connection between nervous system regulation, somatic work, and attachment styles (16:52) How Laurie's recent breakup differed from her divorce (and why it matters) (40:44) Practical strategies for working with an avoidant or anxious attachment style (46:45) Learn more about Laurie James: Laurie James is a mother, divorcée, recovering caregiver turned author, somatic relationship coach, and podcaster. Laurie's podcast, Confessions of a Freebird, was inspired by her youngest of four children leaving the nest and is the sequel to her book, Sandwiched: A Memoir of Holding On and Letting Go. Laurie's book is about her journey from loneliness to finding belonging during a time when she was raising four teenage daughters, her mother had a heart attack and needed care, all while her marriage began to crumble. Now Laurie helps women divorce, heal, and date differently in midlife. She blends her coaching and somatic training to help her clients develop a better relationship with their bodies and nervous system. Doing so allows them to find the inner freedom to experience more happiness, joy and create the life they desire. Whether we're talking sigils, somatics, or the neuroscience of orgasm, this episode drives home one truth: your body holds wisdom, your desires matter, and your sexual energy is a force that can heal, transform, and manifest the life you want. In this intimate and eye-opening episode of the HEAL with Kelly podcast, I sit down with world-renowned sex, love, and relationship therapist Dr. Laura Berman to explore the transformative principles behind her latest book, Sex Magic — a guide to harnessing your sexual energy to consciously create the life you crave. With over 30 years of experience, a PhD from NYU, multiple New York Times bestsellers, and regular appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show, OWN, and Showtime, Dr. Berman brings unmatched wisdom, heart, and depth to this liberating conversation. Together, we unpack how women can reclaim desire beyond societal conditioning, move from performative intimacy to sacred connection, and why emotional safety — not just physical stimulation — is the true foundation of erotic fulfillment. Dr. Berman shares practical tools for cultivating quantum intimacy in long-term relationships and explains why chasing dopamine highs often leaves us empty —and what to do instead. But this episode doesn't stop at sex—it dives into the soul. Dr. Berman vulnerably shares the heartbreaking loss of her son, the metaphysical experience that followed, and how that grief cracked her open to a new level of embodiment, frequency healing, and spiritual awakening. Her journey through somatic release, emotional alchemy, and full-body “yes” living is as inspiring as it is instructive. No fancy meds or complicated therapy — just smart, doable actions that turn your mind into a powerhouse. Discover why mental fitness is the missing piece in our mental health crisis and how stacking simple changes can protect your brain for life. Listen in and learn: simple tenets of mental fitness that anyone can start today how your diet and daily routines shape your brain health why connection and engagement are brain superfoods how to unburden trauma and build purpose for lasting strength If you're looking for real, science-backed ways to feel better and stay better — without gimmicks — this episode will change how you think about your mental health forever.  Cold Open Transcript: Gabe Howard: People psych themselves out and say, oh, well, I put butter on my broccoli. I've ruined it. Everybody seems to think that if they're not a raw vegan, then there's no point in eating healthy. And I think that's a mistake. Drew Ramsey, MD: That's a huge mistake. It's also not what the data says, if you look at research. What I've tried to bring to the mental health world is the notion that we need to think about food when we're thinking about things like depression, anxiety, bipolar illness, trauma recovery, substance use disorders, psychotic disorders, all of these have big nutritional implications. Our guest, Drew Ramsey, MD, is a board certified psychiatrist, psychotherapist, and author. His work focuses on evidence-based integrative psychiatry, Nutritional Psychiatry and male mental health. He founded the Brain Food Clinic, a digital mental health practice, and Spruce Mental Health in Jackson, Wyoming. Using the latest research along with decades of clinical experience, he hopes to help people improve their mental health and build resilient mental fitness. He and his team have created three e-courses: Healing the Modern Brain, Eat To Beat Depression, and Nutritional Psychiatry for Clinicians; along with free downloads, the free nutritional psychiatry cooking class the Mental Fitness Kitchen, a weekly mental health update newsletter Friday Feels, and a mental health and mental fitness focused podcast. His latest book, “Healing the Modern Brain: Nine Tenets To Build Mental Fitness and Revitalize Your Mind,” will be published by Harper Collins in March 2025. His previous books helped establish Nutritional Psychiatry and explore the connection between food and mental health: the international best-seller “Eat To Beat Depression and Anxiety” (HarperWave 2021) now translated into 9 languages; the award-winning cookbook “Eat Complete: The 21 Nutrients that Fuel Brain Power, Boost Weight Loss and Transform Your Health” (HarperWave 2016); the bestseller “50 Shades of Kale” (HarperWave 2013) and “The Happiness Diet: A Nutritional Prescription for a Sharp Brain, Balanced Mood and Lean, Energized Body” (Rodale 2011).  Learn more at DrewRamseyMD.com. In Episode 127 of the MAX Afterburner podcast, Whiz opens with a powerful celebration of progress in the healing space. He highlights Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s recent statement to Congress, where the HHS secretary boldly called for psychedelic therapies to be made available to veterans within the next 12 months. Whiz also spotlights a landmark five-year study from The Ohio State University showing that a single heroic dose of psilocybin helped 67% of participants recover from depression—with no relapse.Whiz then offers a transparent debrief on why the No Fallen Heroes Foundation didn't attend the Psychedelic Science conference in force - 'a self licking ice cream cone & echo chamber'. He expresses concern over the commercialization of the healing movement and directly calls out several for-profit ibogaine clinics in Mexico for price gouging vulnerable veterans and families in crisis. “Healing shouldn't come with a luxury price tag,” he says. The episode takes a deeper turn as Whiz addresses recent criticism surrounding Operation Midnight Hammer and the perceived contradiction of “celebrating war” while preaching healing. He responds with clarity and conviction, saying he is against all war—calling it the ultimate failure of human consciousness. But, he argues, if war must happen, it should be so brutal and unforgiving that it deters future conflict. He also shares a powerful reflection on the archetype of “the man who wanted to be left alone,” framing it as a cautionary tale for a world that pushes healed warriors too far. Finally, Whiz reflects on the last four years of his own journey—filled with setbacks, breakthroughs, and relentless work. He declares this moment “the end of the beginning”—and affirms that the real mission, the deeper healing and transformation, begins now.

“By the time he left, I felt like I was close to a mental breakdown. And I would tell my husband over and over, I can't do this long, much longer. I just can't.  You know, I would go sit in the Walmart parking lot for three hours until he went to bed. And so I was avoiding my whole family. That affected my husband because here my husband is supposed to be my protector, but legally he can't protect me against this thirteen-year-old who's constantly verbally abusing me.” Hi Neighbor, Navigating the complexities of parenting a child with Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) is a journey few understand, yet many adoptive parents endure in silence.  In this episode, I sit down with Karen, an adoptive mother of six and a survivor of the extraordinary challenges RAD can bring to a family. I loved interviewing longtime friend, Bryan Reeves—a former Air Force captain turned relationship coach, author, and speaker—about deep themes of love, grief, surrender, and conscious partnership. Bryan shared his and his wife's experience of enduring 18 major life challenges in five years, many of these were ambiguous losses—grief over things never fully materialized. We've both been Inspired by Michael Singer's Surrender Experiment and Bryan reflected on surrendering to life's challenges without giving up, choosing instead to fully engage with each moment, seeing surrender as the ultimate form of freedom. I love learning about the complex dynamics of partnership with his wife, Silvy—balancing personal truths, holding space for differences, and learning how to share power in a relationship rather than dominate or withdraw. In this deeply connected reunion of sorts in person in Austin, we also discussed... -How much Bryan loves Silva! I asked him to describe qualities he appreciates about her—he lit up! He spoke of her warmth, humor, depth, and emotional availability—and three things that turn him on, from her sensuality to her emotional support. -How Bryan openly owns his shortcomings—like struggling to offer the depth of emotional connection Silvy craves—and apologizes for past choices that unintentionally hurt her, including the decision to leave LA. -How we both emphasized that true love and partnership are not about perfection, but about willingness to stay present in the messiness. We explored how real intimacy requires patience, compassion, and truth-telling. -How Bryan's guiding principle in his partnership with his wife is serving love, rather than ego. -How I vulnerably opened up about my own struggles with being single, practicing self-care, and asking my staff for loving accountability—showing that intimacy begins with ourselves. -This nearly yearly podcast swap between old friends ends with mutual appreciation, humor, and heartfelt acknowledgment of the growth they've witnessed in each other over 15 years. -I'm so grateful for the depth and realness of our shared journey and we invite listeners to reflect and take meaningful action in their own lives… tiny hinges swing big door… you'd be amazed what consistent aligned action will create for your intimate relationships. ➡️ Go check out patreon.com/allanapratt for Exclusive content! If you're ready to stop bullying yourself with thoughts you'd never say out loud to a friend, this episode is your start to choosing a better script and creating safety in your own mind.

Today we open a field of inquiry and healing around women's mental health, reclaiming wholeness, and reshaping the way we understand treatment, addiction, and embodiment. Our guest is Dr. Stacy Cohen, a double board-certified psychiatrist, addiction specialist, and founder of The Moment Health, a revolutionary holistic health and wellness clinic that integrates science, soul, and social impact. What drew me to Dr. Cohen's work is not only her clinical depth, but her fiercely compassionate, woman-centered lens, a lens that acknowledges that mental health and also addiction looks different in women, that healing must honor biology and story, and that reclaiming joy, clarity, and inner coherence is a personal, political, and spiritual act.As someone who has walked this path of healing myself, I know the power of what happens when we shift from symptom management to soul-based medicine. This conversation is not merely about treatment, it is about remembering what wholeness feels like, and choosing it again.Episode highlights:[02:00] What “fragmentation” looks like in traditional psychiatry[04:00] How The Moment Health was born[05:45] Building a collaborative care team rooted in interdependence[08:00] Why addiction and mental health look different in women[10:00] The clinical blind spot around hormones, perimenopause, and gynecological factors[13:30] Cultural differences in how menopause is experienced[16:00] Psychedelics and the danger of one-size-fits-all thinking[20:00] Embracing the middle passage: Stillness as power[23:00] The importance of interconnection between women and men[26:30] Why Dr. Cohen brought ketamine therapy into her practice[29:30] Addiction psychiatry, recovery culture, and psychedelics[33:30] Healing trauma and reinterpreting AA for female empowerment[36:00] Embracing the lioness: Anger, motherhood, and power[38:00] Returning to ancestral ways of raising children[41:00] The power of play, embodiment, and creative self-expression[43:30] Embracing duality: Complexity and simplicity in healing[44:00] Repainting the system: A new vision for women's mental health[48:00] Practical first steps for reclaiming your mental health[49:30] Honoring postmenopausal women and the second springResources mentioned:Dr Stacy Cohenhttps://www.stacycohenmd.com/The Moment Healthhttps://www.themomenthealth.com/who-we-areThe Middle Passage by James HollisAmazon: https://www.amazon.com/Middle-Passage-From-Misery-Meaning/dp/0919123600Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/66679.The_Middle_PassageInternal Family Systems (IFS) – Richard SchwartzIFS Institute official site: https://ifs-institute.comIntro video on YouTube by Richard Schwartz: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99NF6K8vN00Gateway Sciences / Gateway ClinicGateway Sciences: https://gatewaysciences.comGateway Clinic page: https://gatewaysciences.com/clinicSOCIAL MEDIALinkedInhttps://www.linkedin.com/company/the-moment-by-dr-stacy-cohenInstagram https://www.instagram.com/themomenthealth/Facebook https://www.facebook.com/themomenthealth/

Internal Family Systems, for which Dr. Dick Schwartz is the legendary founder, is undoubtedly the most powerful form of therapy I have ever encountered. Instead of just talking about this type of therapy, you'll get to witness it in action: demonstrating the efficacy and intricacy of the process in real time. Coming on the heels of the hardest month of my life, this session was nothing short of life changing. We also got to discuss a recent evolution of his model which now includes the recognition of the presence of dark entities, what Schwartz calls “unattached burdens” which are not “parts” of the self, but something quite other entirely.  For anyone who is interested in therapy, to heal past wounds, or simply to access your fullest potential of SELF, this is an extremely important podcast. | Dr. Richard Schwartz |Website: https://ifs-institute.com/Instagram @internalfamilysystems/  YouTube @InternalFamilySystems  X @IFS_Model  Facebook @InternalFamilySystemsThis episode is sponsored by►Metal Mark Golden Collectable Art |  https://mtlmrk.com/►Hone Health | https://shorturl.at/JvhAJ►Korrect Fuel | https://korrectlife.com/| Aubrey Marcus |Website | http://bit.ly/2GesYqi Instagram | http://bit.ly/2BlfCEO Facebook | http://bit.ly/2F4nBZk X |  http://bit.ly/2BlGBAdAdSubscribe to the Aubrey Marcus newsletter:https://www.aubreymarcus.com/pages/emailTo partner with the Aubrey Marcus PodcastSubscribe to the Aubrey Marcus podcast:iTunes | https://apple.co/2lMZRCn Spotify | https://spoti.fi/2EaELZO Stitcher | http://bit.ly/2G8ccJt IHeartRadio | https://ihr.fm/3CiV4x3
