Pastor Andy Cass Place is less about physical space and more about God's presence, drawing parallels to the Israelites in Exodus 33. He encourages Echo Church members to embrace the new building as a space where God continues to meet with them, while emphasizing that true transformation comes from being in God's presence, wherever He leads. TEXT: Exodus 33:1-15, Numbers 1-10, Psalm 27:4, John 14:2-3, Acts 16:25-30 NOTES: God's Presence Over All: You can have all the things, but without God's presence, even the best place or building is just brick and mortar. The Problem with Place: -When we make the place the main point. -When we get too comfortable. -When we lock the doors to change or remain stuck. Promise of Place: God's promise is that His presence will go with us, and we will find rest, echoing Moses' plea for God's presence in Exodus 33. "Church is a place to practice God's presence, learn His voice, and accept His love." BIG IDEA: "Place is less about a physical space and more about who is present with you." "All the Milk and Honey in the world and no presence of God, is like soggy Honey Bunches of Oats. Might as well eat oatmeal." God's Provision: "What we all need is the presence of God and whatever He provides, wherever He leads." The Problem with Comfort: "Discomfort is a blessing before the blessing." Church's Role: "If the Holy Spirit isn't present, then this place isn't much different than your gym, school, work, or favorite coffee spot." Invitation: "There's a place for you—the true you, not the fake you." Prayer: "Jesus, I surrender, I have more questions than answers, and I choose to follow You anyway." Why Did Peter Sink?
The Miracle at Walmart

Why Did Peter Sink?

They say America is a great melting pot, but on a local level it's Walmart. There is no place where every walk of life, every occupation, every ideology or religion, every fashion choice, every body type or disability, can be seen and shared, at least on the surface level. But what is more amazing is this: all of these people, mingling and bumping carts into one another, shop in relative peace. (Ok, so occasionally there's a police car outside, but I've seen it at Target or Costco, too…just not as often.) Perhaps this general peacefulness is because everyone in the store is focused on getting what they want and then planning on promptly leaving. As long as no one pokes a thorn in the side of our consumerism, apparently we really can get along. For as long as I can remember, Walmart has been slammed as the angel of small-business death. Walmart holds a unique place of anger in many hearts on both the right and left sides of American politics. I've even heard one hyperbolic person say they would rather walk over hot coals than enter a Walmart store. We really enjoy arguing, especially about politics, economics, and religion, but even things like retail stores. There was an old saying “Arguing with an engineer is a lot like wrestling in the mud with a pig. After a few hours, you realize the pig likes it.” To that point, about ten years ago, I sat in a meeting room for an entire week of product design listening, and occasionally contributing, to a battle between front-end web engineers over which javascript library we should select for use in our product. Yes, an entire week of arguing about a part of a product that customers would neither see nor care about. But no matter whether you love it, hate it, or just secretly go to Walmart on vacation when you need something and think you won't be seen, Walmart is the only place on earth where you can get a fishing pole, frozen fish, a fish piñata, and a pet fish, all while getting the brakes fixed on your fishing boat. From my years of listening to disdain for Walmart, the problem for many consumers is not the global supply chain or the treatment of workers or the environmental impact. The real issue shoppers have with Walmart is that they don't want to mingle with “the people” who shop there. There is a subtle implication toward something awful when a voice laments, “I had to go to Walmart,” as if they just used a port-a-potty on the third day of a rock music festival. The phrase, “people of Walmart,” is a modern wink between folks that hints at the dregs of society, bordering on a modern version of Biblical uncleanliness. The “people of Walmart” in modern America is analogous to the “lepers of Molokai” in 19th century Hawaii. This superiority complex happens not only among my more educated and wealthy friends, it is also expressed among my blue collar friends. I've heard the sentiment from various ethnicities and races. There doesn't seem to be a single “group” of people that have this condescending feeling about Walmart. I cannot discern who will hold the sentiment. The disgust for Walmart transcends our usual tribes, so I can never tell who will start to show symptoms of illness when the word Walmart comes up in conversation. In any case, I come neither to bury Walmart nor to praise it, but mostly stand in observation of it as the modern marketplace, like the agora of classic Athens but with light-speed logistics, rock bottom prices, and no coupons needed. Aside from the military, a hospital emergency room, and maybe a waterpark on a hot summer day, there is no place of greater diversity slammed together and in constant interaction than at your average Walmart. College campuses and corporate America are the two least diverse environments in America that I have been a part of, despite their constant trumpeting to claim that prize. In my university and corporate travels over the past 25 years, I have yet to see a hillbilly wielding a dry-erase marker in front of a whiteboard or a man with gold teeth refining his powerpoint presentation. However, I have seen both of these people at Walmart. Real diversity is where you have every class, every race, every religion, every level of education, every disability, every propensity, and every shape of human being imaginable pressed into one place. Walmart teases out our prejudices. I would go into Walmart and see someone and shake my head. I would comment: “Look at that guy…what a mess. What an absolute mess.” Perhaps you know what I'm referring to. I suspect you do. There are websites dedicated to the people that I'm referring to, like www.peopleofwalmart.com, which I'm not even going to hyperlink because while the site is funny, it's mainly for sophomores in high school, especially the daily “Feature Creature.” I realize that comedy can be mean, as there are various ways to get a laugh, such as thwarting expectations, shocking the sensibilities, or good old fashioned body humor that we humans have perfected over thousands of years. And I'm not going to pretend I don't laugh at those things. As I've said before, don't let this blog/podcast fool you - I am flawed in more ways than one. Yes, I laugh at body humor. For instance, have you seen the trilogy of movies known as Shrek, Shrek 2, and Shrek the Third? I enjoyed those movies. But those movies do not exist without body humor. Here's a quick summary…Shrek: he's ugly and overweight. Prince Farquaad: he's short and dandyish. Prince Charming: He's a good looking rich prick. The end. Roll credits. That's the movie. And the movie is hilarious.People never tire of height and weight and fart jokes because - and this is modern blasphemy to say today - our bodies are funny. There's just no way around the fact that human bodies make us laugh, and we all know they make us laugh, but some of us today are getting very good at the art of taking offense. But surely even those folks have to stifle a laugh when they see America's Funniest Videos classic clips of “man getting kicked in the crotch.” To deny that bodies are funny is to deny one of the better parts of our nature, but we are denying it and as a result comedians are declining to book shows at corporations and college campuses, which are, as I've mentioned already, the least diverse places in America, as much as they try to tell us otherwise. Consider classic books that use body humor, like Don Quixote and Sancho Panza; it's the skinny guy and fat guy buddy adventure story. Or A Confederacy of Dunces' main character, Ignatius Reilly, who is a stream of endless body humor. Or the movie The Princess Bride - it would not even be a movie worth watching without the six fingered man, Andre “the Giant,” the albino hunchback torturer, the old hag with warts, and the many speech impediments the characters have, in particular the priest who mixes up the letters “W” and “R” and “L”. Unlike books and movies and Shrek, Walmart is of the flesh and brings out the type of superficial judgment that I also like to pretend I don't make. Why does this happen at Walmart? Because in that store lives the full array of rednecks, hippies, preppies, snobs, slobs, spinsters, bachelors, gangsters, w*****s, studs, duds, broods, dudes, litters, critters, fops, goths, sloths, freaks, geeks, and even some that give me the creeps. Luckily, I fit right in with many of these groups. I feel right at home. These are my people. Back in college I read about a morality test, in a marketing class of all places, coined the “TV Test.” The TV Test goes like this: when engaging in an act of questionable ethics, if your actions were being broadcast to the world, like the movie The Truman Show, you should ask yourself this question: would you still perform the act if the world was bearing witness? This was a fine test for me to consider in 1997, as at that point I didn't have time for God, but any religious person knows that this test should be called “The God Test,” which requires no studio or camera, since we are always under the oversight of God. The TV Test is a secular test of morality. If you wouldn't cheat on your partner while being watched on TV, you probably should just skip hitting on the waitress. If you wouldn't stuff twenty dollars bills in your pocket while running a cash register and being observed on TV, it's a good idea to put the money into the drawer. Stealing, cheating, getting drunk, lying, acting rude, watching porn - the TV Test is indeed a good test to reveal unchangeable moral rules. (For the record, shopping at Walmart is an act I would do while being filmed on TV, so that's how I know it's not really a wrong action, although I would be embarrassed to be seen buying so many sugary snacks.) The TV Test works well for determining right and wrong. Take these two actions: smoking cigarettes vs. watching pornography. I would be willing to be seen smoking on television. I would not feel my conscience eating at me. On the other hand, watching porn is something I would definitely NOT want to be seen doing. So it's easy for me to tell which one if these acts is immoral. One is bad for my health, but the other is bad for my soul. But oddly, many people see smoking as a modern sin while watching porn is no longer considered to be wrong at all. Eating sugar for many is a modern sin, but I would eat a whole bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats on NBC's Today show and not feel ashamed. I wouldn't be proud of it, but I would not feel my conscience telling me that eating the added grams of sugar is morally wrong. Clearly, if you don't want to be seen doing something in public, you can be certain that it's not right. The internet age has attempted to flip various acts from vice into virtue, but the “small voice” within whispers the real answer to us. The TV Test has its merits, but there's one problem, a rather large problem. This kind of test relies on external feelings of how you would act if being observed. This goes directly to our need for approval and our sense of honor and shame. What this test lacks is internal motive. The TV Test is all about what others think about you, not what you think about yourself or how you see the world. (Oh God, not again, here we go…on to the religious stuff...)Yes, that's exactly where I'm going. The problem of the “TV Test” is the underlying motive. Let's take the example of the temptation to eat grapes in the produce aisle. Doing the right thing is a wonderful thing in itself, since if you know someone is watching, you probably won't snatch grapes in the store as you slip through the cool and concealing fog of the produce misters. But that decision to do the right thing and not eat the grapes is a change in behavior that comes from fear of being caught, from someone holding up your immoral act and showing it to the world. In other words, it comes from coercion of outside forces. And make no mistake: Walmart and Target will prosecute, as many errant teens have discovered the rule of law in this way. No one wants to be outed in the local police blotter as a grapelifter. But don't we all want to eat some grapes at the grocery store? But we don't eat the grapes if there is fear of getting our hand slapped. (Note: Just stay with me here for a minute on the grape metaphor as a surrogate for all temptation. Replace “grapes” with whatever vice you have such as “do drugs” or “steal” or “cheat” or “get drunk” or “gossip” or “have orgies” or “watch porn all day” or “reject your family” or “hate your mother in law” or “flirt with your ex on Snapchat”…you get the point.)True change in behavior does not come from fear, it comes from inner change, and trust is another word for faith. This comes from a change in the heart. In other words, doing the right thing can be done by a robot that is programmed to act on certain conditions. This is what totalitarian societies strive for by attempting to convert people into robots based on fear: If this, do that. If not this, then proceed to jail. If still not obedient, flog twenty times, then loop back into society. If still low morale, send to re-education camp. Finally, on error, terminate the defective bot. We program machines to “do the right thing.” But we are not machines. (Well, I take that back. As a former atheist, I did believe that we were just machines, or merely large organisms of randomly selected chemistry lurching about the earth. I've since abandoned that.) For those who still gaze with wonder at the universe and accept mysteries beyond nature, even if only from watching Lord of the Rings or believing in the Lucky Charms leprechaun, there is something special about the ghost and the machine. To not eat the grapes is righteous, truly, as everyone in their heart knows that stealing grapes is wrong. No matter how plump and tender they look, stealing grapes is wrong. Really, the more plump and tender the grocery store grapes appear, the more you need to resist the urge, as the temptation is greater. No one would ever argue against stealing being wrong unless they have completely lost their mind, or they are perhaps starving. The TV Test teases this out. If stealing was ok, we would just do it and not care. But we do care. So external pressure to follow certain rules works for many things, but this is the robotic kind of decision. This is doing right by external pressure to avoid consequences. However, there's a second and very different kind of reason to do the right thing that comes from an internal change. This kind of change does not come from external pressure. In fact, it's not coerced at all, in any way. It is chosen. Yes, you can be “good without God” but there is still something missing, and true change comes from the one thing that fits the God shaped hole in the Big Empty of our heart. (Oh, here it comes…faith stuff…oh, God, please spare my non-religious readers, help them bear this next part as I start to pontificate on the internal change of heart, the metanoia.) It comes from faith. And it comes from grace. As usual, I find something in the Catechism that shows me that 2,000 years of thinking about faith has produced some excellent distillations of the problems we humans face. To be human, man's response to God by faith must be free, and. . . therefore nobody is to be forced to embrace the faith against his will. The act of faith is of its very nature a free act. God calls men to serve him in spirit and in truth. Consequently they are bound to him in conscience, but not coerced. . . Indeed, Christ invited people to faith and conversion, but never coerced them. For he bore witness to the truth but refused to use force to impose it on those who spoke against it. His kingdom. . . grows by the love with which Christ, lifted up on the cross, draws men to himself." (CCC 160)Forget about the “TV Test.” I have a new test called the “Walmart Test” and you can do this test even without being a Christian, but it's much easier if you are one. Upon entering the mart, or even before you enter - you can start this test while you are in the parking lot - pin this single idea on your brain's bulletin board: that every person you see is a child of God, that every person there is important, and that you can see Christ in each person's face. There's a saying I've stolen from a guy who signs his emails with “See Christ in others, be Christ for others.” Somehow it's always those short proverbial sayings that stick the best in my brain and make the most sense. They cut to the chase. This may be because I'm in my forties now, so phrases of eight words or less are necessary. This includes seeing Christ in the person that would win “most likely to become Hitler” in your mind's yearbook of societal characters. You probably already know who I'm talking about. You know who it is. How do I know? Because everyone has a scapegoat, an archetypal villain that we brook own own ego against, to affirm to ourselves, “I'm good, that person is bad.” If any behavior smacks of evidence for original sin, it's that humans seem wired to seek something or someone to hate. We want approval, we want love, and we're capable of much love, but we also gravitate toward hate all too readily. We need that opposing force to support our own yearning for righteousness and self-love. Honestly, don't we seek out anger? Last night I sat down in my chair, quite content for a moment, and then a minute later, I looked at my phone and saw an article, and I clicked on it and then became instantly agitated. And I realized afterward, did I not perform that act myself? Did I not just become angry by own volition? And for what reason other than I was feeling content and happy! I sought out something to irritate me and disrupt the peace. We seek agitation, and the phone giveth. Oh, it giveth. Why do we want to dislike something? Despite all the love memes we post on Facebook, there is the equal and opposite force pulling us the other direction. One of the most fascinating phenomenons to watch on Facebook is to have a friend that posts a picture of his or her family followed an hour later by a vitriolic partisan article about a lightning rod political topic. Love - hate - love - hate. It's like they are saying, “Here's something I love” and later “Here's something I hate.” The happy and loving posts almost seem to act as counterbalance to claim their image back from the stronger yearning to communicate how angry they are. I hide these people's feeds because I can't handle the constant love/hate, not because I don't like those people, but because I have to deal with my own tendency toward love and hate along with theirs. One at a time people, get in line. I've got my own flaws to fight before I can handle yours. This is where the internet's poison gets nasty for society, because instead of just dealing with our own extremes we get to observe and react to everyone else's internal monologue too, and frankly, I am not equipped for flaws beyond my own massive problems and insecurities. This shame/honor culture and love/hate firehose of opinions lives rent-free in our heads, and in many of us has taken up permanent residency with the fusion of social media into our lives. Even before social media, comments to articles on web pages were rife with this extremism toward honor and shame. This is exactly why I don't have comments enabled on Why Did Peter Sink? Have you ever, in your online life, read the comments of an article or a social media post on social media and felt better? Have you ever moved on from typing and commenting with a good feeling? I have not. Typing online is a good place to use the “TV Test.” Would I type this comment if the world were watching me? Anonymity is a seductive thing online, since it allows our cruelty to go unchecked. So back to the “Walmart Test.” This test must be done with all shoppers, but especially against those who personify your most vilified group. So whether that person you would like to wish away is a Republican or Democrat, fat or thin, black or white, immigrant or citizen, gay or straight, on welfare or paying cash - you need to do this test on that person. You need to see the dignity of every person. This is the imago Dei test. Every human being is made in the image and likeness of God, with a soul granted at the beginning of their life. “The notion of the imago Dei is also that which gives each and every human being an equal share of human dignity. And this is the game changer. Catholic Social Doctrine is based principally upon this notion.”If you do this correctly, going to Walmart may become the greatest experience of your life. You may find yourself spinning around in the pet food section, proclaiming loudly, like John Dryden after reading Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, “Here is God's Plenty!” This may even be euphoric for you when you look at that Trump supporter or drug user or person on food stamps or that woman with five children or that rich snob and say to them in your head, “This is a child of God. Someone loves this person. This person is valuable and meaningful. Jesus died for that person's sins just as Jesus died for mine. I am no better than that person. I see Christ in that person's face and they are a miracle.” But…whatever you do, don't hug them. Say hello, or maybe pierce their bubble to start a conversation. Just don't hug them. That's how the police car can suddenly appear in front of Walmart. I say this without being silly or trying to provoke anyone. You must do The Walmart Test stone-sober, not high or drunk, because it's very easy to feel the whole “I love you, man” mood when you are intoxicated. That's not really “Seeing Christ in Others,” that's a false elevation, a vacuous happiness. Drug users often have this “I love you, man” attitude, but that's not a valid test, because they have already escaped the world in the high of the drug. I remember a person from college that would get stoned and go to the local zoo to look at animals for some kind of zen. That is not what I'm talking about. This is a sober test. A test of internal change, not external change, not to be created by coercion or chemicals. This is a test about choosing to orient your life toward Christ and to see him everywhere. True change is internal. It requires a turning toward God. This is the part that I never understood about Christianity for the first thirty-some years of my life. I saw it as mostly rules, as buildings and rituals, as a path to righteousness through actions. That's not what it's about at the root. All of those things like rituals and buildings help us stay on track to the true destination. But it's not only about the laws and the rules. That's not the main purpose. The primary purpose is to change how you see. The purpose is to make change from the heart which changes your entire vision of the world. For those that think Jesus was a great moral teacher, that's a key part but not the whole. It's about sin, forgiveness and acceptance, and number one above all: about seeing the world as Christ saw the world. It's about entering into the suffering with others, not against them. Christianity is, above all, a way of seeing. Everything else in Christian life flows from and circles around the transformation of vision. Christians see differently, and that is why their prayer, their worship, their action, their whole way of being in the world have a distinctive accent and flavor. (Centered, p 37)How else could the martyrs be burned to death while still praying for the one who lit the match? That sounds like drug-induced behavior. For someone about to be killed and still see Christ in the face of the killer, this is such a radical idea that goes against all instinct. Drugs like liquor and politics could never give that much of the “I love you, man” feeling. What happens is that the faithful sometimes forget to see Christ in others. There are millions of Christians who do see this way, they just don't make the news. We only hear about the ones who lose the vision and need to get back to the hospital for sinners. When that happens, when someone falls, the media pounces. Non-Christians rejoice when the righteous fall. They see the Pharisee in those Christians that judge others while self-justifying their own behavior with the presumption of salvation. The meek inherit the earth, not the proud, right? But while the media dances on a fallen figure's grave, what they forget is that in being humbled, the fallen figure usually realizes the mistake and comes to a stronger and more appropriate faith through humility. Having faith is not supposed to be easy, it's supposed to be hard. The second part of my stolen saying is to “Be Christ for Others.” This means letting go of the zero-sum game, of needing something for every action you take. You have to let go of the self and the never-ending "wanting” of more. Hasn't that exhausted you? More money, more recognition, more likes, more house, more car, more sex, more drama. It becomes so repetitive always wanting the next thing, the new shiny toy, the next experience, that it's like a hamster on a wheel running for no reason. This letting go means you go into servant mode and wind up receiving more than if you had gotten what you wanted. Someday I dream I will walk into Walmart and see two people, perhaps a Republican and a Democrat, gripping each others ears with both hands and saying simultaneously, “How did I not see this before?!” I won't hold my breath. The Walmart Test is where you can choose to mock those you feel superior toward, you can choose to disdain your perceived enemies, you can mock them with body humor…or…or…you can choose to see Christ in each person's face. This is not meant to be easy. It never was meant to be easy. As a Christian you are not even meant to be loved. Jesus even warned us that we will be hated for his sake. If someone hates you, take heart, because you've found the perfect subject for your Walmart Test. Can you love the person you hate the most? Better test: can you love the person that hates you the most? Can you pray for your enemy? I bet you can. “[God] will have us learn to bear the burden of one another's faults. Nobody is faultless; each has his own burden to bear, without the strength or the wit to carry it by himself; and we have got to support one another, console, help, correct, advise one another, each in his turn.Meanwhile, there is no better test of a man's quality than when he cannot have things his own way. The occasions of sin do not overpower us, they only prove our worth.” (from The Imitation of Christ. p 47) This is a public episode. The brand-new Harry Potter adventure Hogwarts Legacy will very easily go down as one of 2023's best-sellers, a testament to its high quality and faithful treatment of the so-called Wizarding World. But its success is also a triumph for reason and truth, and a major defeat for the outrage machine that tried to destroy it via a distorted game of telephone. Nestled within the maelstrom is nonetheless a heck of a game, and we're eager to talk about Avalanche Software's release in-depth. Plus: BioWare's continuing troubles, PixelJunk's triumphant return to PlayStation, and much more news. Then: Listener inquiries! Welcome to Charmed, I'm Sure: A Southern Charm podcast hosted by Yvette and Kathryn. We're finally getting into Southern Charm S7 and (as a shock to no one) we're beginning at the start  with S7, E1 - The Good Shephard. As the title suggests, we've got Shep, but is he being good…? Erm, no, he's not.   He may have an adorable new girlfriend that he likes to call "Honey Bunches of Oats" (apparently not a cereal that exists in the UK), but a perfect man he is not.  Also, is the drama finally over between Madison and Shep?  Definitely not.We chat about the latest developments with Kathryn (Dennis) and her drama with Cam, we hear Kathryn (not Dennis) try to perfect her T-Rav impersonation, and we agree that we are both thoroughly enjoying Craig and Austen's new domestic partnership. Also, hear Yvette and Kathryn talk about the American vs. British differences regarding the use of Lysol during COVID, the importance of air conditioning, the joy that is peanut butter and jelly, and "the higher the hair, the closer to God" (or not).  So much to talk about, so little time! If you're enjoying the podcast, please support us by leaving a 5* review wherever you listen - it really makes a difference! UNI Wildcast - The Wildcats Podcast from University High School Charter

What is like losing a loved one for example your grandmother, uncle, singer, teacher, friend, Favorite Athelete etc Hi My name is omid khanian i am a 11th grader in uni and this is an episode of what is like losing a loved one. Please listen this might make you cry if u lost your grandmother, uncle, friend, family, teacher and more cause this happens to me in 2021 That i lost 2 one my grandmother and my uncle. On February 17th 2021 I lost my grandmother due to cancer. She was 74 years old. Before she died. I left my cousin's house. I cried because she was an angel that is part of our family and we all don't want to lose her. I prayed to god that hopefully she will wake up and continuing here life. On Valentine's day 2021 she suffered a stroke then she went to the hospital and the doctor gave her the vaccine shot but we said noooo cause she has cancer but the doctor said we have to do it. When my grandmother was in my cousins home she was sleeping and she wasn't waking up she was still breathing which is a good sign but when she returned to the hospital (me and my parents was at home) When it was 11:18pm my 2 cousin check her pulse it stop moving and that moment my cousin were crying so much. Before when she got a stroke she felt better like she was healthy but when she got a stroke it's sad. My Grandmother died of cancer but i didn't know yet cause i was sleeping. On February 18th 2021 i was in a zoom meeting and it was my 1st period class on ZOOM and my mother interrupted me for one second and she said to me “Omid Joon ………. I have to tell you something ….. It's bad news ……… Mam… an (She was crying to) finished (Passed away) she died last night when you were sleeping………..”. I was listening to the song Ouj-e-asman by Mohammad Esfahani which means “On the top sky” (it was a sad song) And that moment i was shocked crying so much that i close my Chromebook cause i was feeling down like i didn't want to finish school because it is an important day a sad day for us. Throughout the day I emailed my teachers and saying i can't make it to the zoom meeting because my grandmother passed away etc. While i am talking to this podcast makes me sad inside to so i might feel sad. Sorry if i stop on a word cause it feels like she is listening to my podcast. When it was here funeral my grandpa was crying alot cause my grandpa loves my grandmother so much and my grandpa is 84 so they are both 10 years apart my grandparents was born in iran my grandma was 14 and my grandpa was 24. My grandparents was born during WW2 but it wasn't in iran thank god. During her funeral to me it felt like she didn't pass away. She is here And every month when it's close to her day she comes to my dream a lot and also we have to go to her grave every month until her year because it is the jewish rule. If you would like to see her she will like to meet everyone that we introduced to her and she loved my teachers, my friends family back in elementary school and she will do anything. Her grave is in Eden Memorial Park. We don't know the name yet but I will lyk. And here is a cool story on June 19th 2021 we went to see her and once we see her my mom was saying maman joon we've missed you so much (my mom cried) please life is not the same without you we've missed you so much Thank you so much for being with us during this difficult time letting omid, getting good grades and getting his vaccine thank you maman joon. After my mom finished talking there were thunderstorms. Before when we saw her it was sunny, a little bit chilly and right after that it started raining a lot like hard rain. That means to me that I think my grandmother was crying so hard that she misses us so much. Then when we left and went to wash our hands it stopped over in her gravesite it was raining but in front of the Eden memorial it was not raining which she was crying in her own gravesite and i never see that happen. It was a gift from god that she could hear us. One time my grandmother came to my dream a lot. She likes it when I play the saxophone because she enjoys it so much. ANd when it was her year, i did a speech from her and it was fast that one year it was so fast . Also, I lost a cousin on April 1, 2021 he was my 2nd uncle named Daei Shokuri. It was April Fools' Day and My cousin texted my mom that my uncle had died. My uncle's name , Daei Shokuri, was a tough loss because he always came to parties and temples and also special events. I was like this is not real at all i just lost not 1 but 2 of my family members (Not from my family) That day when it was my cousin's bar mitzvah in ohel Moshe i sat next to his seat and it felt like he was there celebrating my cousin's bar mitzvah. So how is losing 2 of your love one it is tuff and sad at the same time. It is not easy to lose someone cause my grandmothers soul is still here cause i work at best buy in pico and sawtelle and i saw one cd player that look exactly like hers and there was these person that look like my uncle and my grandmother. And i wasn't kidding at all. If you would like to meet my grandmother she will love to see you she love to meet new people that i know and one day she will invite you to her house and give you persian chai and her gole abb. In 2016 my grandmother was is in my elementary school graduation and she was crying to see me. And also that day during my elementary culmination one of my favorite persian singer named habib died in iran and that was my favorite persian singer and also my grandmother. During 2019 (3 years ago) for my middle school graduation during emerson middle school she wasn't there and we took some pictures and i showed the pictures to my grandmother she said to me “Elahid Gorbonet berem” “ Khaely hasndome” cause i wore a black suit. That year my grandmother was fine but the cancer is such a pain in our hearts (b****) i just wish cancer will never (f***in) excist cause weve lost actors that have cancer like chadwick boseman, etc. but there lives will live on no matter what. If i would like to bring one person back alive it will be my grandmother because she does everything right she was too young to passed away but you have no choice. My grandfather was crying so much whenever my grandmother isn”t here because he loved her so much and whenever i talked to him or when my cousin was talking about my grandmothers memories We all cried and one time i show my grandfather an animated picture of my grandmother that was Black and white photo the app is called Myheratage it is on play store or Apple Store. And it will show you a Black and white picture can can turn into a real life picture like present time like color. And one time i did it to my Dads father and the picture was black and white picture and in the picture there was a white light in the background. And the clothes that he wore was a light greyish sweater and i told my father was this real and he said yes he little bit cried. And also on the app you could animate it. Please see me during lunch so i could show you myheratage app it a very good app to use and take picture of your love ones you will cry so much. And when i show the picture of my grandmother to my grandfather it was animated and it was with pictures i choose the animated it was a kiss animation (and yes there is more animations) He said to me “Omid Joon Merci ke omadi khone Daei,” My grandfather will talk to me farsi greeting me thank you so much for coming to my cousin house and showing me these pictures of maman we had alot of memories we each other from your birthdays, bartmitvah, graduations, and hopefully my grandmother will see me in heaven while i be married and i will miss that she will give my future kids hugs and kisses like what i did when i was little she will take care of them and have fun with them just what i did. She will put persian music and dance with you. She will feed you , She will do anything like a good angel does. While i am saying it makes me want to make me emotional cause i am saying the good memories about her. If you say good memories about her no matter what she loves you. On April 10th i started having a dream about my grandmother during spring break 2022 and she came to my dream 4 times in a row i am not kidding she was crying in my dream cause she misses me alot and also the dream that i saw was a song from habib called Madar which means grandmother / or mother and its a good song to listen to cause in my dream i cried so much inside of my dream and my grandmother was in it like God gave me a good dreams cause i always think of them in the morning and also i listen to music and walking to. I know i already told you it is hard to lose your grandmother/ a loved one. But if you keep on thinking of them god will create a dream that will be in your sleep and maybe your late grandmother will come in your dream one day if you keep on thinking about it. If i died i wish i will be in heaven and i hope i will die on a friday cause my parents told me if someone dies on a friday because fridays is usually the night of shabbat for jews its a good sign that they go straight into heaven For example my 1 uncle name daei hooshang he died on June 1st 2018 at night. My favorite persian singer name Habib that i already told you about he died on June 10th 2016 at night and that day was my elementary school culmination. I hope one day in heaven the first person that i want to see in heaven is my favorite nba player from the Los Angeles Laker The G.O.A.T Kobe Bryant because i grew up watching the lakers and also Kobe Bryant I had his jersey since i was 4 ½ year old. I have been a fan of the lakers when i was little. Before when kobe passed away on January 26th 2020 I really wish one day in Los angeles i will see him in person so he could sign his jersey or let him sign his shoes that i wored. During his championship run in 2009 and 2010 i was so happy cause i was little and i like watching the lakers. And now i am still watching the lakers games on spectrum sportsnet. No matter win or lose just enjoy the game. In April 13th 2016 it was an emotional and happy kobes last game. I really want to go to the game but it was expensive The tickets were 200+ per/person. So i just watched it at my home and i got emotional cause my childhood idol, the legend that i like to play basketball, was retiring. His Final Shot Attempted was from the 2006 nba playoffs game 4 vs the Suns back in 2006 And also his final points in the nba with 33,643 was in the free throw line. First , passing mj in the all time scoring list , etc was in the free throw line. On January 26th 2020 it was a sad morning cause Kobe Bryant died in a helicopter after when i ate breakfast and when i started exercising at home. Before when he died i woke up around 10:00am And i ate my breakfast it was a cereal milk (Honey Bunches of Oats With Almond) And i watch the news at the same time. (Yep every morning i watch the news cause i loved the news) Right after when i ate my cereal (The news was still on) I did my exercise at 11:00am so i could burn the calories and i exercise for 30 min. Right after when i finish, there was a Special Report that told us the bad news that a Retire Los Angeles Laker Kobe Bryant and 9 others was killed in the helicopter crash. At that moment my heart stopped and i said to my self oh this has to be fake but no 5 min after i went to my instagram, facebook. And it was there. When it was official I went to my room and started crying so much cause kobe bryant was my favorite laker basketball player. I always watch him and Thats why i play basketball when i was little thanks to this legend. The Next day i had a dream about basketball. On January 25th 2020 before January 26th 2020 happened i was playing basketball in Westwood park for 5 hours cause my twin sister had a basketball practice and also my brother had a interview and his number was number 8. And i burned a lot of calories while i was playing BB i burned 1000 calories cause i had the mamba mentality to never give up playing Just continue the work is not finished yet. On january 30th 2020 during school it was Kobe day due to the accident on january 26th 2020. And that was very nice what Ms middleton did i would like to thank the uni leadership for making that event happen. I wored my Kobe jersey when i was little, His jersey retirement hat (the points that he scored during his carrer (33,643) and a 2001 lakers western conference champions yep i had that on cause my parents and me are die hard laker fans. Thank you so much for leting me to talk about what is like to lose a love one like a grandmother, uncle, friend, teacher, singer, and more. If you have any comments i will be in room c-161 at lunch in the podcast club and i hope i will bring you a good story about what is like losing my love on.

Searching in the Pandemic

Why Did Peter Sink?

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 17, 2022 25:02

The pandemic opened a gap in time. Like a two year layover, the plane was grounded so that we could hop off, sit quietly in the concourse, read the map, and adjust our itineraries. For some, the opening of this gap in time caused the vacuum to fill with old habits, often bad habits. For others, a re-prioritization of life occurred, but the order of those priorities varied dramatically between people. Politics, technology, porn, drinking, and material possessions seemed to take the top place for many. Liquor store shopping sprees and shiny things captured much of our time, talent, and treasure. Having deleted all social media accounts for much of the pandemic, I missed the online drama, but now having been drawn back to social media for community and school event information, I see now that I didn't miss much. This time has caused a great deal of sorrow for many from the virus. But far more have felt a mental sickness from the isolation. We are told that the world is changing, but it is the same world that it was before. Human nature did not change. A trend toward disorder and chaos is clearly happening, but this is not a new thing or even original, as there is nothing new under the sun. This has happened many times before. We are living in a time best described in the book of Wisdom, chapter 2. These seemingly novel ideas pumped by the media are as old as time. The narrative around a post-Christian, post-American, post-9/11, post-colonial, post-2008, post-capitalist, post-Cold War, post-modern, post-truth, post-Covid, post-everything world are as credible as the sugary calories I get from my favorite Post cereal (which is no longer Cinnamon Toast Crunch, but Honey Bunches of Oats (with Almonds)). Today, I find that the back of a cereal box has more reading depth than any of the the major news outlets. At this point, I grant professional wrestling a higher level of seriousness than The New York Times, CNN, or Fox News, because at least pro wrestlers have the courtesy to wink and admit they are pretending. The falseness of pro wrestling is obvious, and therefore far more honest, which today gives these steroid and drug-fueled wrestlers a higher integrity than the smoke and mirrors surrounding the veiled ideologies disguised as news from our media companies. To see this madness in action, just login to Facebook or Twitter and scroll through your friends' postings. The vociferous progressive and angry conservative will sway like a reed to whatever is popular today. Remember Kony 2012? Remember Cecil the Lion? Remember the wet market? Remember flattening the curve? Remember that insulting tweet? Remember the thousand other daily crises between then and now? Look at today's headlines and you will see today's Cecil the Lion. Everything is a crisis. And here's the thing I've learned: when everything is a crisis, nothing is a crisis. To illustrate what I mean by that, here's a real world tale of what happens when “everything is a crisis.” A software company had a model of measuring the severity of customer problems, which went from 1 to 7, with severity 1 being the highest, or worst. A severity 1 meant that the system was down and the customer was losing money. For a long time, this model worked, until a series of especially vocal customers began to realize that if they lobbied to get every support issue elevated to level 1, they received instant and premium support. The most talented troubleshooters would come running to their aid, since the skilled employees were always in demand for difficult issues. Thus, the customers began ranting and raving about every case until they received the recognition and label of severity 1 on all tickets. These customers saw this as a good thing. What happened in reality is that more customers began to realize how to game the severity model, and soon many issues were in the high-priority, house-is-on-fire queue. So while customers imagined this was a good thing, the support staff that I was part of burned out and realized that if every incoming case was high priority, then all tickets were actual normal priority, regardless of the assigned severity. The skilled engineers began working longer hours and grew frustrated. If every ticket requires all hands on deck, then eventually you run out of hands. It's like when a freshman keeps pulling the fire alarm in a college dormitory over and over, night after night; eventually people stop getting out of bed to go outside, and discover they would rather die in the fire than waste their time freezing outside at 3 AM for no good reason. In the end, the support issue severity system became so meaningless that a higher level of zero was added. Yes, for real. A new status was invented quietly to address the problem. Within a year the skilled employees started to depart the company looking for greener pastures where they were not running from one meaningless task to the next. Customers eventually realized that “severity 0” was the secret internal status that they now needed, and believe it or not, the company had to add a negative status, “severity -1”, to hide yet another level for actual crisis tickets. As time went on, the product support grew lazy and cynical and tickets lingered without anyone really caring, while customers continued to scream on the phone about their “severity 1” or “severity 0” ticket that wasn't getting addressed. Everyone suffered, until the whole severity system had to be re-ordered when a new boss came in and shook up the whole severity triage. It was kind of like Simba returning and replacing Scar in the pride. The new boss, Simba, fought for the engineers and we battled to reset the severity of tickets to their proper places. But the sad ending here is that this boss eventually left, because in cleaning up he stepped on a few toes of the hyenas (a.k.a. cynical engineers) who enjoyed the status quo. Why would anyone prefer a bad system to a disciplined and logical system? Because when everything was a crisis, no one had to do any work. It was a state of gridlock where engineers could complain about the state, but then just go home at five o'clock. The result of “everything is a crisis” is a kind of despair or paralysis, which can even become comfortable in its dysfunction for those riding the current. In chasing every problem, no problem is addressed. In sounding the alarm, we become living examples of the boy who cried wolf. I suspect the wolf is near, if not already here, but we stopped expecting him to ever appear. This watering down of what the word “crisis” means will eventually make a real crisis strike us like lightning. I suspect it is only a high level of material comfort and extended time of peace and prosperity that could allow us all to have so much time and energy to spend online seeking a daily problem to get excited about. We are somewhere in the seven stages of empire, as after the fourth stage of affluence comes the age of intellect, followed by decadence, and soon afterward, decline and collapse. The pandemic held this state of constant crisis in front of our eyes, since we were all shut indoors and kept separate. Early on I realized that I could react in one of two ways to the noise. I could embrace the cage match of fixing the world's problems by thumbing responses on my phone. (I was slow to realize in the early days of social media that clicking a “like” button will not bring about a utopia.) Or…I could turn the phone off and change myself. At least, I could try - not sure I can really change, but an effort can be made. This goes back to my use of the Serenity Prayer. This little prayer is the great knife that cuts through issues and helps discern which road to take. And as far as that utopia goes, I look forward to the incredible time ahead that the partisans are promising, but in the meantime, while I continue to witness the result and reality of Original Sin in every human being including myself, I will try to live for today with hope for the future. I'll try not to think about actual crises that could happen, such as the launch of the ten thousand nuclear warheads aimed at every major city across the world, or the possibility of a giant solar flare frying every electronic circuit on earth, or the dollar being dumped as the world's reserve currency creating exponential inflation, or drought and famine across world agriculture, or biological warfare that would make Covid look like a sniffle. In this two year pandemic, if you haven't made a change yet but have considered making one, or want to make a change, this opening in time might have been the greatest opportunity of your lifetime. The question to ask yourself is this: did you waste this time? Did you let it slip by? Did you freak out over every 24-hour news cycle? Or did you turn off the TV? Did you put your phone down or cling to it every waking minute? I hope you didn't waste it, or that you don't waste what is left of it. There will never be a perfect time, but if you did squander this time, these many months when the world slowed down, then the perfect time to change is now. The old Chinese proverb holds true: the best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago; the second best time is today. This isn't some new age idea. It is ancient and cross-cultural. But it comes with one warning: when you “seize the day” make sure you what you are seizing is something worth reaching for. When I think of the lost years of my life, I think of hiking experiences where I've stopped to look at trees growing in strange places. Warning: I'm switching metaphors now. On cliffs and rocky paths, tree roots cling to impossibly small cracks, nooks, and crannies. The tree itself twists and bends, growing sideways or curling toward a sunny spot. How these trees survive bewilders me. They seem to have nothing to hold onto, yet they live and grow. Some even appear to thrive, but the weight of the tree growing sideways will eventually fall due to its own weight fighting against gravity. They struggle, yet live full lives. With their improper footings and nutrients they become stunted as the roots grope along cliff and rock edges in a desperate search for water and minerals. The will to live, to survive, shows itself in the exposed roots. You can see this intense yearning to live in plants and animals everywhere you look in nature. This is never a question in nature. The will to survive and reproduce are the two driving forces for all living things, unquestioned among all species from largest to smallest. With people, I often can't tell who is like the thriving tree on the craggy precipice, who is out of place, who is out of sorts, or who is growing sideways but seemingly fine. They may appear to be thriving, but have no footing, and rather than a physical search for sustenance they engage in an unseen mental and spiritual search, only to have their roots grasp at rocks and sand that give no nutrition. They slowly starve trying to draw life-water from a swamp of politics, sports, porn, liquor, or possessions. Others seem to have access to an untapped source that defies reason. An unseen wellspring feeds the taproot. These strange trees are often the ones that make the woods and the cliffs beautiful. If every tree was in solid soil and growing straight and true, I'm not sure a mountain hike would be as interesting. What's strange is you often see a tree that appears to be on solid footing, on good soil, but is actually sick, while the strange tree on the cliff protrudes sideways from the rock, yet appears to be healthier than the tree in rich soil. There are healthy looking trees that are hollow inside due to beetles or disease and you don't know it until the day a strong wind snaps the trunk in half or uproots the rotten base. The difference between trees and people is that we can change our footings. We can move, whereas a tree cannot. We can ask ourselves questions and react. We can change. Here's a list of questions for asking yourself: How did you spend the first year of the pandemic? What were you doing for the last 22 months? Did you grow or did you shrink? Did you get older or were you reborn? Did you scroll on your phone constantly? Did you discover the power of silence? Did you look inside and ask the real questions that you want to ask? Did you live online? Did you comment online? Did you stew about politics? Did you rage quietly or publicly about how the virus was being handled? Did you swipe left or right all day? Did you stare at your favorite porn each day? Did you get drunk often and lol about it? You may have wasted the greatest opportunity of your lifetime, and that might have been the best chance to change your footing.  When is a good time to find true meaning? Now is a pretty good time. The present seems like a good opportunity. Yesterday was better, but today is a good choice. You can try to get back to where you once had meaning, or if no such place exists, to find that place. If no place can be easily found, ask, seek, and knock. Pound on the doors of new places. Search for the right path and place to plant yourself. I would suggest you stop shopping at Amazon and start shopping where people meet in flesh and bone and talk about real things. You will not find it at the bar or liquor store. You will not find it at the mall or on an app. Millions have looked in those places, and millions have never found it there. You will not find it in yourself, either, despite the convincing claims of New Age religion and modernism. The “self” is exactly the stumbling block that needs to be looked away from to experience a true change. There is something in you that aches to be aroused, and believe it or not, it's not sexual. There is an assumed obsession around that subject today, where happiness is thought by many to only come through something to do with titillation and body parts. This is probably the greatest distraction of the current age, maybe only matched by the desire for possessions and shiny things. But there is something deeper in the center of you that wants and demands something greater to believe in. I think an honest question to ask oneself who has become a cynic or doubter is this: why did you stop believing? What is the real reason? What crushed you? What stole it away? What political position made you stop believing? What intellectual argument? What hypocrite turned your stomach? What jerk or cruel act twisted the good into something bent and broken? Why did you abandon belief? Was it something you did to someone else? Because there is a reason it happened, or multiple reasons. Something made you doubt and maybe even stop believing. Or perhaps is it just indifference. You stopped caring. Someone talked you out of it. We can very easily be talked out of belief by clever argument if we're not careful, and there are many arguments that try to convert you away from your true belief. One interesting thing I've noticed is that anyone who insists that you not talk about your religion to others, is preaching their religion to you in that very ask. What they are saying is actually this: “My belief is that you shouldn't speak about your belief.” In other words, they are converting you to adopt their non-belief and indifference toward faith. Then out of concern for niceness and offending the other person (who, by the way, may have just effectively silenced you or even caused you to abandon your convictions) you grow quiet as if your principles were mere suggestions for living instead of the bedrock of meaning in your life. The religion of the self is the de facto religion of this age, but this is an unsatisfying way to live. An age of doubt is here, temporarily. If you don't realize this fact, you have already been converted, or are being converted to it, or have allowed it to silence you. Many people are having their faith euthanized right now, slowly going to sleep in our culture that acts like carbon monoxide on our spiritual life.Every day that you actively doubt is a day that you aid and abet your own de-conversion and willfully turn away from God. The great trick of this era is that government and corporations and schools and media companies pretend to act for our benefit instead of their own. We are instructed by all of these institutions that it is somehow intolerant or bigoted to proclaim the life, suffering, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus in public. The irony is that all of these institutions will pass away before long, from the U.S. Senate to Amazon.com to the Teacher's Union to the Washington Post. These are all temporary things trying to silence something that can never be silenced, no matter how much noise is made, or how much smothering of people's faith is attempted. In reality, there is nothing intolerant about having convictions and principles to live by, and at least in America this right to hold religious belief is protected. Nor is there anything bigoted about being open about your faith, as anyone who reads the four biographies of Jesus can discover rather easily, if he or she decides to crack the cover of the book and stop accepting what the culture is preaching. The culture of the self is very hard to turn away from. It's everywhere. A society that pushes a religion of no-religion doesn't like to hear anything about parables or miracles, and therefore today we are being told that the God of love is suddenly, a God of hate. This is not a failure to transmit on God's part, this is a failure to receive on our part. We only want a God that affirms what we desire, and that remains the case unless you experience the invasion of grace. In the idleness of the past years, in the pandemic, some larger questions of life must have jarred you from time to time. If these questions haven't sprung up, then you will just continue on the road of indifference that ends in the land of Blah. I don't want to be in that gray place. That road requires no action and no vigor and offers no real satisfaction, unless the next TV show or case of beer or oversized meal or one-night hookup can somehow fulfill the deepest concern inside you. Call me a skeptic. Many of us walked away from God for a reason, somewhere along the way. There are many possible reasons. If the problem is intellectual, that God cannot be real, then there is reading and listening, as you have probably spent much more time reading and listening to reasons not to believe and have never given the spiritual way a fighting chance. I have gone over my own struggle in detail in earlier chapters of this journey. Ideas and reason blocked me, as I wanted to learn everything, to know, to appear smart, wise, and most of all, consider myself above superstition and myth. But ideas are just one cause of spiritual blindness. Often a human drives us away. Someone brashly shoved religion on you, and failed to deliver the message. A confluence of things drove me away. If it wasn't only ideas about God, then what other cause pushed you away? Perhaps it was one of these things:Someone hurt your feelings. Something crushed you. Something distracted you. Someone annoyed you. Someone did something to someone that you loved. What do all of these have in common? All of these are reasons that have a person or a group of people at the root. Notice that the problem in any one of those reasons was not God. The reason is always something else. This is a public episode. Partial Transcript: (Download the full transcript HERE) Kimberly Olson: Welcome everyone back to another episode of hashtag getLIT, where we crush your business, and today I have a special guest. My name is Kimberly Olson, I'm your hostess. And I have special guest Marina Simone on - welcome, girlfriend! I feel like it's just hanging out with a friend, virtually obviously, it's just nice to get time together. We have to schedule things now to be able to space out, even carve out a little bit of time for each other. So thanks for being on, I'm pumped to share my audience with you. I think a lot of them know you, but we have some people who've probably never come across you just yet. So I would love to have you introduce yourself. Tell us a little bit about you, what got you into your entrepreneurial journey and how you got started. So why don't you just bring listeners and viewers up to speed? Marina Simone: Awesome. Well, first off, I just have to tell you watching your journey and growth with The Goal Digger Girl and how you're helping people getLIT in their businesses has been such an honor and so much fun because now whenever I'm talking to any of my clients, it's like, "well, Kimberly said..", and I freaking love that. That just literally lights me on fire. It makes me so happy. And I'm just so excited about what you've done for this industry. So thank you for sharing your audience with me and allowing me to come on and just be a part of it. For those of you that don't know who I am, my name is Marina Simone, I'm the CEO and founder of Moms and Heels, and where that came from is because I literally was born and my mom went into labor with me and she had these pink, fluffy, high heels on. Marina Simone: So it's like the big joke. And so my grandmother and my mom have always had an obsession with heels. In fact, they wore high heels with bathing suits and my mom still does to this day. And then if you take it even further, Jason, who's my Honey Bunches of Oats, my man, soon-to-be husband. When we first started dating, he told me that he didn't like toe spreaders, which were sandals. And so he thought it was great for women to have this posture. So I have this obsession with high heels. And so I know that as moms, we don't get to dress up as much anymore. Sometimes it's like we're always in these yoga pants or with our hair in a mom bun. So wearing the high heels just gave me that confidence and whenever I'm presenting or doing anything business wise, I'm always in heels. Marina Simone: So that's where the Moms and Heels brand came from. But I always wasn't this branding expert and social media queen. When I first got started in network marketing back in 2012, I was a single mom and I worked in a cubicle. And I had three computers on my desk and I didn't get paid what I was worth. And I never thought that I was going to be anything more than the chick in the cubicle, working for someone else. And that had to do with a lot of past traumas and past things that happened to me in my life. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thegoaldiggergirl/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thegoaldiggergirl/support

On the March 8, 2016 Boomer Generation Radio show, Rabbi Address welcomes Rabbi Mordechai E. Liebling, director of the newly created Social Justice Organizing Program at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College (RRC). In the second half of the program, the guest is Michael Lyons, professional actor and motivational speaker. About the Guests Rabbi Mordechai E. Liebling Rabbi Mordechai E. Liebling Rabbi Mordechai Liebling has worked throughout his career toward tikkun olam, repair of the world. He is the first to direct RRC's unique Social Justice Organizing Program; he leads the College's initiative to invest rabbinical students with the clarity of purpose, vision and voice to become uniquely effective, spiritually strong leaders in the drive toward social justice and environmental sustainability.   Through his own experience, Liebling came to realize that spiritual leaders hold unique power to demonstrate and inspire ethical choices, and to lead a pursuit of justice fueled by caring rather than rage. Welcome back! Matt used to be a dead ringer for Jimmy Fallon until the late night host nearly ripped his finger off. The dads Google Image Fallon's medical condition, which was a mistake. Matt buys his daughter a sandbox for their deck...which is just above the deck of their neighbor. Guess what happens next. Dave tells a story of a family friend's kid who asked his mother the toughest question ever about STDs. Ever. Todd's kids won't commune with him over his childhood cereal: Cookie Crisp. They seem to love Honey Bunches of Oats and shredded wheat, which is still listed as poison by the FDA. Harper Lee doesn't know what day it is, but we're supposed to believe she wanted to publish a book. A listener schools the dads on SpongeBob. The dads then lament the dark, dark 80s. Along with this Matt receives a Carol Channing ventriloquist dummy. Dave's twin daughters keep pulling their dresses over their heads, which leads to a discussion on inappropriately short and skinny clothing for young girls. We want to hear from you!!!
