Send us a textIn Monday's Kathmandu Post I read short bios of two of the 19 protesters killed by police in the GenZ demonstration one week ago. Both were from Nepal's Far West — Deepak Singh Saud was from Baitadi district, Subas Bohara from Bajhang. Deepak was 18, Subas 21.I send my condolences to their loved ones. As you probably know by now, the protest was about much more than the recent Nepal Government ban on social media. It was an explosion of frustration at how the political class has been running this nation for decades, longer than many protesters had been alive. And for a lot of those disaffected young people, the fact that they had to leave their country in order to find a job or continue their studies was a slap in the face, a symptom of all that was wrong with Nepal.In fact, both Deepak and Subas had been learning a foreign language so they could go abroad and get the sort of job they felt they needed to earn a decent living — Subas to Japan, Deepak to South Korea. I think there's a good chance that other victims had also considered leaving Nepal.I've been looking into migration and Nepal long enough to know that, despite the horror stories — and there are many — it does have benefits. Individuals can earn much more money than at home. They can pick up skills and women in particular can grow in confidence as they navigate a new society more independently than they would in Nepal. The country of course is a winner thanks to the money that migrants send home — at least a quarter of Nepal's overall income these days, one of the highest rates of the world's labour sending countries. But overall, to me nothing shows more plainly the failure of the entrenched leaders of the political parties than the hundreds of thousands of young people who every year feel that they have no option but to leave their country and loved ones to try and launch themselves into their adult lives in a strange land. I really really hope that in this new Nepal young people will feel like they have a choice — to leave, or to stay; a real choice, one whose pros and cons need to be carefully weighed before deciding. On today's episode of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words,” Hanson explains how Kirk urged a generation to grow out of “prolonged adolescence,” rediscover marriage and family, and demand policies that make owning a home and raising children possible again—and why his legacy will be felt for years to come. “ We turned to common sense in half the country, but he was going as an emissary into hostile territory and telling people: ‘There is a reason why you're leaving in the millions. … We have to champion the idea that a two-parent family is not aberrant. It was the historical norm for 2,500 years. It's a good thing to have two or three children. It's a good thing to be a young person and wanna buy a house in your 20s and not in your 40s, or to have a child in your 20s and not in your late 30s.' Nothing wrong with the latter, but he was trying to offer a different paradigm that had proved successful.”

Números 24: 17, NTVEn diciembre de 2020 circuló en varios medios la noticia de que, gracias a un fenómeno astronómico, ese año se podía visualizar -la estrella de Belén- Cada veinte años aproximadamente, Júpiter y Saturno, que desde la tierra parecen estrellas, se acercan y parecen fundirse en una sola. Según algunos astrónomos, ese fue el fenómeno que guio a los sabios hasta Belén cuando Jesús nació.Si lees Mateo 2, notarás que la estrella que los sabios siguieron tenía tres características principales: (1) los sabios la reconocieron como la señal predicha del nacimiento del Mesías, (2) su resplandor trazó un sendero para los sabios y (3) al final reposó sobre una casa (Mateo 2: 9, NBV). Aunque creo que a veces Dios utiliza fenómenos naturales para cumplir con sus propósitos, no creo que la estrella que los Reyes Magos siguieron era una conjunción planetaria, tampoco un meteorito, una supernova o incluso un cometa.Personalmente, creo que fueron ángeles los que guiaron a los sabios. Hay pasajes bíblicos como Job 38: 7, Daniel 8: 10 y Apocalipsis 1: 20 que relacionan a los ángeles con las estrellas. También Lucas menciona que cuando Jesús nació hubo una aparición de ángeles (ver Lucas 2: 9). Por último, Mateo indica que Dios dirigió de forma sobrenatural el regreso de estos personajes (ver Mateo 2: 12). Así que es muy posible que también los haya guiado sobrenaturalmente en la ida.Ahora bien, ¿qué importancia puede tener para ti hoy que hayan sido ángeles los que guiaron a los magos? Creo que el beneficio espiritual radica en saber que los mismos ángeles que guiaron a los magos están hoy a nuestra disposición. Los ángeles están constantemente con nosotros. Nos guían y nos protegen del peligro (ver Salmos 91: 11) y su presencia constituye un recordativo del amor de Dios y su deseo de salvarnos, pues «todos los ángeles son espíritus al servicio de Dios, enviados en ayuda de quienes han de recibir en herencia la salvación» (Hebreos 1: 14).Hoy Dios promete enviar a sus ángeles para ayudarte a tomar buenas decisiones, para guiarte a Jesús y para protegerte del peligro.
