Welcome back! This week, the ladies disect Sex and the City, which began as a newspaper column by Candace Bushnell for The New York Observer (1994–1996), chronicling the romantic escapades and social lives of Bushnell and her friends in New York. The columns were compiled into a 1996 book that inspired the hit HBO series, two films, and the Max revival “And Just Like That…Candace Bushnell's alter ego, Carrie, serves as our narrator. She introduces readers to characters like Carrie, Mr. Big, and Samantha—navigating love, status, and sex in a world of privilege, parties, and heartbreak. The book isn't a traditional novel but rather a collection of loosely connected essays and vignettes. It paints a portrait of a certain type of single woman—successful, savvy, and navigating a social world where love is often transactional and appearances mean everything. You've seen them on HBO, but this is the book that started it all.*Please be advised this episode is intended for adult audiences and contains adult language and content. Notable projects include the documentaries Advanced Style and Far Western, and the forthcoming After All (2025), for which she composed the score and contributed six original songs. As a solo artist, Scarr has released three albums—Piece (2010), Dangling Teeth (2012), and one of Pam's all-time favorite albums, No Rush (2021)—establishing herself as a singular voice in atmospheric, deeply emotive songwriting. Hospitals are really hard to create sound design for. The walla and general soundscape of a hospital is very different than any other location, because they are dense but not necessarily loud. Plus there are lots of medical machines that need to be accounted for. In the new HBO emergency room drama, The Pitt, this challenge is amplified as the show takes place entirely inside an especially intense ER. Supervising Sound Editor Bryan Parker and Re-Recording Mixers Ed Carr & Todd Grace, tell us how they used the sounds of The PItt to increase the tension, emotions and payoffs..... all with almost no score in the series. No detail was left to chance, as a map of the fictional emergency room was used extensively by the sound team, to motivate panning and what kind of sounds are heard by the audience. The use of sound design to draw you into the story is one of The PItt's greatest triumphs. This episode of Across The Margin : The Podcast features an interview with Stephen Chung, an award-winning cinematographer with well over twenty years of experience in moving images. Stephen's career began as a stills photographer, working in the commercial, fashion, and music industries in Canada and Europe for over a decade. In the 90s, his photography evolved into cinematography, and his earliest credits were music videos for artists such as Feist, Broken Social Scene, Do Make Say Think, Buck 65 and Blue Rodeo. Stephen has worked with Viceland, HBO, Discovery, Nat Geo, History Channel, 20th Century Fox, and The CBC. His most recent documentary — It's All Gonna Break — is the focus of this episode. Imagine being a fly on the wall at the birth of a musical movement that would change indie rock forever. In early 2000s in Toronto, a group of young creative musicians collectively known as, Broken Social Scene, got together and soon became a worldwide phenomenon. It's All Gonna Break is an electrifying and intimate documentary about the indie rock band that redefined the sound of a generation. Filmmaker and longtime friend Stephen Chung was there from the beginning, capturing the chaos, creativity, and camaraderie that fueled their rise and caught on camera the making of the iconic album You Forgot It In People. With never-before-seen archival footage and new interviews with Kevin Drew, Leslie Feist, Brendan Canning, Emily Haines, Amy Millan, and more, the film traces the band's evolution from raw basement jams to global stages. A love letter to independent music, It's All Gonna Break is a vibrant time capsule of a pre-digital era and a moving reflection on friendship, art, and the freedom to create on your own terms. There's a deadly fungus among us! Alexis Hejna from Honeysuckle Rose Creations hosts a roundtable look the second season of the hit TV series based off the hit video game (and its sequel), joined by Jesse Starcher and Jayson Teasely. Let's take a look at this story of vengeance, love, and mushrooms. The second season of the American post-apocalyptic drama television series The Last of Us was originally broadcast on HBO between April and May 2025. Based on the video game franchise developed by Naughty Dog, the season is set twenty-five years into a pandemic caused by a mass fungal infection, which causes its hosts to transform into zombie-like creatures and collapses society. The second season, based on the first half of the 2020 game The Last of Us Part II, follows Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) five years after the events of the first season, after they have settled into Jackson, Wyoming, with Joel's brother Tommy (Gabriel Luna) and Ellie's friends Dina (Isabela Merced) and Jesse (Young Mazino).HBO renewed The Last of Us for a second season less than two weeks after the series premiered in January 2023. Co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann were joined in the writers' room by Halley Gross and Bo Shim; Druckmann wrote and co-directed the games, and Gross co-wrote Part II. Principal photography took place in British Columbia from February to August 2024. Druckmann, Mazin, and Peter Hoar returned to direct the seven episodes alongside newcomers Kate Herron, Nina Lopez-Corrado, Mark Mylod, and Stephen Williams. Gustavo Santaolalla and David Fleming returned to compose the score.Critics felt the season reinforced The Last of Us as the best video game adaptation, praising the action sequences, direction, performances, production design, and writing, though some criticized the pacing and considered the story incomplete. It was nominated for several awards. Across linear channels and Max, the season premiere was watched by 5.3 million viewers on the first day, a 13% increase from the first-season premiere; by May, the series averaged almost 37 million global viewers per episode.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

John Seabrook's new book is about a family business—not a mom-and-pop store, but a huge operation run by a ruthless patriarch. The patriarch is aging, and he cannot stand to lose his hold on power, nor let his children take over the enterprise. This might sound like the plot of HBO's drama “Succession,” but the story John tells in “The Spinach King” is about a real family: the Seabrooks, of Seabrook, New Jersey. His grandfather C.F. Seabrook built a frozen-food empire in the farmland of South Jersey, which produced one third of the nation's frozen vegetables at its height. The P.R. was about a hard-working and innovative farm family, but the business, behind the scenes, advanced with political corruption and violence against organized labor. Then C.F. destroyed his business and his family rather than cede control to his sons. John—a staff writer who has covered many subjects for The New Yorker, most notably music—talks with David Remnick about the consequences of inherited wealth, and overcoming a family legacy of suspicion and emotional abuse.

James DuMont #4 Take a walk with me down Fascination Street as I chat with actor James DuMont for the FOURTH time! James has been on every other year; 2019, 2021, 2023, and now 2025. Obviously, we don't do the "how did you get from where you were to where you are" thing this time. Go back and check out his previous appearances for that. In this episode, we chat about the conclusion of HBO's hit series The Righteous Gemstones. Season 4 was the final season and was released not long ago. James played Chad on 20 episodes of the series, and James' real life son Kelton played Pontius Gemstone. James shares fun stories from the set, including some of the things he learned, some of the things he appreciated, and some of the things that he will miss from working with this amazing group of professionals. Next, we move onto a discussion about his new movie 'Unit 234', where he stared alongside the great Don Johnson. This was filmed during covid, and it is where James actually caught covid for the first time. So he explains what it was like to be 'trapped' in a 4-star hotel on the beach in The Cayman Islands. The DuMonts both recently made a change in management after 30 years, so I ask him all about why, and how it has been going since the change. Finally, we discuss James' other job. For more than a decade, James has been teaching actors how to properly film and submit self-taped auditions. For over fifteen years, James has himself been booking auditions via self-taped submissions. As a matter of fact, James has book well over a million dollars in acting jobs from self-tapes. He has over 2500 students across many countries and continents, and he gives a couple of tips to the Streetwalkers! Make sure you check out his 'On Camera Workouts' Instagram page and reach out to him if you would like to participate.

Show Notes Episode 496: It's Not Tv, It's The Green Channel This week Host Dave Bledsoe got hammered and spent four hours trying to explain to a bartender how you could see boobs in TV  static when he was a kid. (Again.) On the show this week we take a look at how boobs and sports changed television forever, we talk about the birth of HBO! Along the way we learn that Dave''s grandparents were too poor to afford more than one television station. (We think?) Then we dive into the history of paying to watch something you can get over the air for free. (Yay Capitalism!) Then we meet a man with a dream, a dream to get people to pay to watch television! We follow his struggling launch of HBO in Wilkes Barre PA. (Scranton was too good for it!) Then we explain how cursing, bare breasts and boxing created a channel that would go on to change how Americans watched and thought about television.  (For the good, for a change!) Our Sponsor this week is Bulg Box, it's like Brit Box but for Bulgarian television! We open the show with the HBO intro and close with KarlisMusik who is feeling being green.. In recent years, a trip into Target on June 1 was the only reminder needed that the month is dedicated to celebrating “gay pride,” but not so this year.     Instead of a prominent display of chest binders and bathing suits designed for “tucking” private parts, as seen at Target in the summer of 2023, the major U.S. retailer is celebrating “Costal Classics” with red, white, and blue themed clothing this summer.     The shift comes just months after Target announced it was ending some of its DEI initiatives and follows several years of declining revenues for the retailer.     While Target appears to have gotten the memo that Americas want a more traditional and less woke agenda, Hollywood will always be the last to learn.     The popular HBO show “The Last of Us,” ended its first season with 8.2 million views in February 2023, according to The Hollywood Reporter. But the show's second season ended with half as many viewers. Why? It might have something to do with the show's denial of reality.     The show received criticism when one of the characters, who is a lesbian, learns that her partner is pregnant from a previous relationship and responds, “I'm going to be a dad.”     The season finale drew 3.7 million viewers, falling from 5.3 million when the show premiered in April.     On this week's edition of “Problematic Women” we discuss why these incidents and others point to a shift away from the radical woke ideology toward a desire for traditional values in America.     Also on today's show, we respond to the news for Biden administration press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is leaving the Democrat Party. Plus, the fight to protect life is far from over, a reality made evident by Planned Parenthood's the latest abortion numbers. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

From their isolated lair in Utah, four millionaire/billionaire friends (played by Steve Carell, Jason Schwartzman, Cory Michael Smith, and Ramy Youssef) watch as deepfakes created on one of their platforms lead to massacres, assassinations, and government takeovers around the world. This sparks the friends' imperialistic fantasies and some unfriendly inter-group competition. Kara talks to writer-director Jesse Armstrong about the real-world inspirations for these characters, how tech founders think about their own role in society, and whether the tech oligarchy has replaced legacy media giants like Rupert Murdoch. After AT&T takes over Time Warner in 2018, the media company decides it's time to enter the streaming wars. They don't have the brand recognition that Disney has, but they do have HBO, considered the most prestigious cable television on the market. But transforming a niche brand like HBO into a broad-based streaming service is a massive marketing challenge — made even harder by the Covid lockdowns. Meanwhile, the head of a low-brow cable empire has his eye on Warner Media as an acquisition. Be the first to know about Wondery's newest podcasts, curated recommendations, and more! Rowling, whose recent actions along with the continued assault on the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals worldwide, warrant further discussion. We are joined by a guest who is an ethicist, philosopher and college instructor, and all of our hosts dive head-first into sharing their feelings on what is happening. And to lead off our discussion, we cover the topic of the casting of the new trio for HBO's upcoming TV series. This episode is sponsored by BetterHelp. Receive 10% off your first month of therapy at BetterHelp.com/mugglecast News: Harry, Ron and Hermione have now been cast in HBO's Harry Potter TV series! The hosts react. Welcome to the podcast, Sunny Williams! Sunny's roots in fandom and wizard rock, and her impressive academic career, make her a perfect fit for our episode today. We revisit the topic of J.K. Rowling, whose new 'Women's Fund' will help advance anti-trans legal cases. Our previous episodes that addressed the author were Episode 447b and Episode 469, both worth a re-listen. The hosts share their thoughts on the last 5 years of disappointment, from infinite double-downs to behavior that is antithetical to the works which we celebrate. Eric takes us through the most recent year in anti-trans legislation, featuring two huge pseudoscientific reports, not peer reviewed and forcefully discredited by major medical organizations, which are nevertheless being used to strip transgender people from accessing healthcare through legislation. The actual science is so in-favor of trans people receiving healthcare, that its opponents have suggested other ways of measuring its efficiency, like whether receivers currently have a job. Rowling's astonishing cruelty is on display daily on X, and her initiatives and gender-policing have been shown to affect ALL women, as the rise on assaults of women in rest areas has grown around hostility towards anyone seen as gender non-conforming by strangers empowered to act. The hosts use scenarios from the Potter books to illustrate what's presently happening. Sunny guides us through the ethics of financially supporting problematic creators, with thoughts from Socrates, Hannah Arendt, Henry David Thoreau, and others! To wrap, we discuss our continued strategy for keeping the fandom progressive and inclusive. Next week, a return to Chapter-by-Chapter will see us introduced to another bully, as it's time to experience Chapter 28, “Snape's Worst Memory.” Learn more about your ad choices.
