PlayStation 5 has officially turned five, giving us much to reflect upon. Has the console lived up to its potential, left folks disappointed, or fallen somewhere in between? We get into that -- alongside new Sony financials that paint an admittedly rosy picture -- before getting into the meat of our show. Two new Sony-aligned games have been revealed, but they've left many potential players puzzled, as neither offering is actually on PlayStation hardware. For starters, NCSoft's long-rumored Horizon MMO is real. It's called Steel Frontiers and it actually looks really nice. But it's only on PC and mobile. Meanwhile, a new Ratchet & Clank game has also been showcased, an online arena shooter called Ranger Rumble. But it too eschews PS5 and PS4, instead going straight to mobile platforms only. What gives? Why does Sony seem half-in on these off-platform initiatives, all the while neglecting their core audience that could give these respective titles the boost they need? Is it time for them to break old habits and embrace a more cogent multiplatform direction that centers PlayStation first and foremost? Plus: Sony's new 27" gaming monitor has people intrigued, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Spirits is getting another closed test, Elden Ring: Nightreign is receiving some much-needed DLC, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! What do we think of Valve's new Steam Machine PC-console hybrid? In any given game's menus, where should subtitle options be nestled: General, Audio, or Graphics? Does ARC Raiders success potentially benefit Marathon? Is Dustin wielding his power over Brad in unsavory ways? In this week's episode of The Game Deflators, John and Ryan dive headfirst into the eerie world of Silent Hill f, sharing their early impressions and how the game's unsettling progression is shaping up. But the horror doesn't stop there—Magic: The Gathering's Spider-Man set is spinning a web of disappointment with weak pre-release numbers and sluggish sales. The duo also tackles a major retail shake-up: Costco's decision to pull all Xbox products from shelves and online. Is this a warning sign for Microsoft's gaming future, or just a strategic pivot? Then it's time to unravel the Silent Hill f steelbook fiasco at GameStop. Who dropped the ball, and why are collectors fuming? Finally, John and Ryan take a nostalgic detour with a full review of Gran Turismo 2 for the PS1—does this classic racer still hold up in 2025?

Sony-owned Santa Monica Studio is one of PlayStation's first party powerhouses. Responsible for the God of War franchise -- and, other than Kinetica early in the PS2 era, only the God of War franchise -- there was some excitement building about what was next. But what if it's just more God of War... at least kinda? New rumors indicate that Santa Monica is working on something more familiar than we might have hoped, and from our perspective, that can only mean one thing. We discuss. Plus: Sucker Punch expresses interest in returning to Infamous, Ghost of Yotei gets special edition PS5 hardware and a DualSense, HBO's second season of The Last of Us earns a ton of Emmy nominations, concept art for Deviation's cancelled PlayStation exclusive emerges, Dragon Quest VII is apparently being remade at Square Enix, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! With the demise of Xbox's Turn 10 Studio, is it time for PlayStation to port Gran Turismo to its rival's machine? Is Colin totally off-base with his desire for Arc System Works to create a PlayStation fighter instead of a Marvel one? What's the worst example in our personal gaming lives of losing a save file?

Welcome back to Sherman and Ski: Talk You Into It. One of the most iconic pop acts from the mid 90's through the mid aughts - The Cardigans flew into our collective lives on a sugary magic carpet of melodies with the one-in-a-million superhit Lovefool. But, as customary here at this pod, we are diving WAAAAY deeper, and so should you! These Nordic pop magicians weaved an incredible sound through all of their albums, Life, First Band on the Moon, Gran Turismo, Super Extra Gravity...and all with a mysterious, dark, death metal underpinnings - almost predictable coming from Sweden. Blending influences from the Beach Boys, Burt Bacharach, and yes, Black Sabbath - The Cardigans were a true group of musicians with a deceptive malleability of their sound. They are true masters of the earworm, with a signature vocalist in the form of Nina Persson - it's stunning that they don't have a greater presence in the American music culture. Also, do NOT ever underestimate their covers of both Ozzy Osbourne AND the Talking Heads...you KNOW Sherman and Ski are talking about it here. ..this pod is a must listen for 90's fans and alt-rock historians, we went deep into the catalog on this one! Rise & shine, folks.
