The Midlife Chrysalis: Transforming Crisis into a Calling with Dr. Devaa Haley Mitchell

What if midlife wasn't a crisis—but a chrysalis? In this powerful and heartfelt conversation, D'Arcy sits down with spiritual leader and transformational guide Dr. Devaa Haley Mitchell to reframe the way we view this pivotal life stage. Together, they unpack the idea of midlife as a sacred period of unraveling, reclaiming, and radiating—a time of deep transformation that prepares us to emerge more fully expressed, sovereign, and whole. From the rise of the Queen archetype to the cultural stories we've inherited about aging, this episode explores how truth-telling, community, and feminine leadership can help us navigate the unknown with courage and grace. If you're feeling the stirrings of change or longing to embrace your next chapter with intention, this one's for you.   Key Takeaways: Midlife is not a breakdown—it's a metamorphosis. The Queen archetype offers a fresh and empowering lens on aging and leadership. Cultural narratives about aging shape how we see ourselves—and we can rewrite them. Truth-telling is a liberating force for healing and connection. Feminine leadership is intuitive, inclusive, and deeply needed in today's world. The chrysalis journey unfolds in stages: unraveling, reclaiming, and radiating. Community support is essential during times of transition. Embracing sensuality and creativity is key to holistic well-being. Awareness of societal conditioning can help us reclaim our power and purpose. The unknown isn't something to fear—it's an invitation to grow. Whether you're in your thirties, forties, fifties, or beyond, this conversation is a gentle reminder: the unraveling is part of the becoming. And you're not alone.   Meet Devaa: For Dr. Devaa Haley Mitchell, transformation isn't just a concept—it's a way of life. She's dedicated to helping people reconnect with their deepest selves, unlock their leadership gifts, and step into their full potential. As the Co-Founder of The Shift Network, a multiple 7-figure educational platform, Devaa has helped bring life-changing programs to over 3.2 million students worldwide. She's also built an online summit that served 130,000 women across 160 countries—all while growing her company from the ground up. Through her private practice, Devaa supports her clients with Soul and Strategy Coaching to work on both the “inner” work of feminine leadership as well as the “outer” work of visionary strategy and implementation. She also leads women through a comprehensive Midlife Chrysalis process to gracefully navigate the many changes that happen in midlife. Finally, Devaa offers psychedelic integration as well as microdose coaching to enhance creativity and focus, while mitigating the impacts of anxiety and depression. Devaa earned both her BA and MA from Stanford University. She received her Doctorate in Ministry from Wisdom University (now known as Ubiquity University) and is also an ordained interfaith minister. She was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for her ecological anthropology work with indigenous groups in the Brazilian Amazon. Devaa also completed her Psilocybin Guides certification through Bodhi Academy in Oregon. Earlier in her career, Devaa was a Management Consultant at the Boston Consulting Group where she consulted with Fortune 500 Companies. She later worked as the founding Executive Director of the Full Circle Fund, a thriving venture philanthropy group, followed by a senior Director role at the Institute of Noetic Sciences. She is also a member of the prestigious Evolutionary Leaders group. In her spare time, Devaa is a musician, and her songs fuse East and West with danceable grooves. Her most recent album, Rebirth, reached #1 on Amazon in the New Age Category.   Connect with Devaa: Devaa's course – Awaken Your Archetypal Feminine Codes: A Guided Initiation Into Your Sacred Power and Leadership – will go live on June 6, 2025. Nonduality & The Science of Consciousness - Peter Russell

The spiritual teaching of nonduality, which stems from the Indian philosophy of advaita, teaches that consciousness is the primary reality, the fundamental essence of the cosmos. On the other hand, the current scientific worldview holds that the physical world is primary, and that consciousness somehow, in ways that we do not yet understand, emerges from it. Both views have their challenges. If consciousness is primary, why do we not see it in all things? Conversely if the physical world is primary, how does consciousness arise from something as insentient matter? Peter Russell proposes that the solution to these problems lies in the recognition that information is fundamental to both realities, and physical reality, as we conceive of it, is but a representation of the external world appearing in the mind. This turns our current worldview inside-out; and into one that both beliefs can inhabit. --- Peter Russell studied theoretical physics, experimental psychology, and computer science at the University of Cambridge. He then went to India, to study meditation and Eastern philosophy, and on his return conducted research on the psychology of meditation. A leading thinker on consciousness and contemporary spirituality, he coined the term "global brain" with his 1980s' bestseller of the same name in which he predicted the Internet and the impact it would have on humanity. Other books include The Awakening Earth, Waking Up in Time, From Science to God, and his most recent, Letting Go of Nothing. Peter is a fellow of The World Business Academy, The Institute of Noetic Sciences, The Findhorn Foundation, and an Honorary Member of The Club of Budapest. --- Interview Links: — Peter's website: www.peterrussell.com/index.php — Peter's books: https://amzn.to/3WRrnhd

Nita Gage, Hoffman teacher and Director of Faculty, worked closely with Dr. Lipsenthal, M.D., for several years before his death. He was an internationally recognized leader, teacher, and author in integrative medicine and physician wellness. And he loved the Hoffman Process. The vision, care, and understanding that Dr. Lipsenthal brought to the world of medicine and medical doctors has changed how doctors care for themselves. Through his own time in the medical profession, Dr. Lipsenthal observed that the health, morale, and work satisfaction of many physicians were often worse than that of their patients. He found a way to support physicians in improving these areas of their lives. Like both Dr. Lipsenthal and Nita, many physicians they worked with eventually came to do the Hoffman Process, which gave them additional tools to change their lives for the better. Listen in as Nita shares her experience of working with Lee, the physician, and Lee the man. We hope you enjoy this conversation with Nita and Drew. More about Lee Lipsenthal, M.D.: Lee Lipsenthal, MD Lee Lipsenthal, M.D., was an internationally recognized leader, teacher, and author in integrative medicine and physician wellness. He was the medical director with Dean Ornish of the Preventative Medicine Research Institute in Sausalito, California, for ten years, and has also served as president of the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine and on the American Medical Association's Physician Wellness Committee. Through his years in the medical profession, Dr. Lipsenthal observed that the health, morale, and work satisfaction of many physicians were often worse than that of their patients. Inspired by his personal and professional experience, he developed the "Finding Balance in a Medical Life" program, which has been adapted by major medical groups and is being delivered at medical schools and residency programs nationwide. Lee was a 2006 graduate of the Hoffman Process. He died in September 2011. His wife, Kathy, also a physician, and his two children live in California. Willis Harman, a futurist and influential thinker, former president of the Institute of Noetic Sciences, editor of Stanford Reasearch Institute “Changing Images of Man” document, and associated with the human potential movement, proposed consciously guided shifts away from old belief systems toward what he termed a “planetary ethic.” In his work, particularly in his book Global Mind Change: The Promise of the 21st Century (1998), he argues that humanity is undergoing a profound transformation in consciousness. He suggests that this shift involves moving away from materialistic, reductionist worldviews—rooted in industrialism and economic dominance—toward a more holistic, interconnected understanding of reality that prioritizes the well-being of the planet and all its inhabitants. In this radio hour, Courtenay Turner presents the possibility that Game~B could present a Hegelian affordance trap (even if not intentionally) that synthesizes the concept of Sociotechnical Systems, that Tavistock psychologists such as Eric Trist and Fred Emery built on cybernetics theory, with “Planetary Ethics” inculcated by the Club of Rome, UN, UNESCO et al into a AIWS managed control grid. "All reality is consciousness which means there's one source of everything, there's one cause of everything. That means that all thinking comes from the oneness of consciousness. You exist as an individual and you don't at the same time." - Mark Gober

In this episode, I interview a dear psychedelic sister, Cathy Coleman, who was married to my teacher, Ralph Metzner for 31 years. Cathy is the author of the recently released book, Ralph Metzner, Explorer of Consciousness—The Life and Legacy of a Psychedelic Pioneer. This book contains over 60 tributes, essays and stories from people who were deeply influenced by Ralph's work (spoiler alert, I'm one of the contributors). In addition to being Ralph's wife, Cathy earned a doctorate in East-West Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies where she also served as Director of Student Services and later Dean of Students when Ralph was Academic Dean and professor. Cathy later worked as Executive Director of EarthRise Retreat Center at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, as President of Kepler College (of Astrological Arts and Sciences) and with CIIS' Center for Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies and Research. She was co-founder, with Ralph, and is a current board member, of the Green Earth Foundation. She is also an extremely talented professional consulting astrologer, who I can personally recommend. Cathy shares personal insights into her life with Ralph, from tripping on ibogaine with Terence McKenna to intimate details surrounding Ralph's death in their home in 2019. We talk about Ralph's relationships with Timothy Leary and Ram Dass and his deep commitment to integrity, forgiveness, and the expansion of consciousness, and we also talk about our personal experiences in a 12-year women's group. This podcast is predicated on the belief that if we all work together, we can still lay the foundations for a future we'd be proud to leave as our legacy.  And it's becoming increasingly obvious that this is now urgent; that we need to let go of the assumptions we'd made about career paths or future constructs and give ourselves wholeheartedly to the process of making it through. Five years ago when we began, it was possible to imagine that the world might stabilise with a vestige of the old system as a scaffold for the new.  That assumption is growing increasingly ragged. At the same time, it's becoming increasingly obvious, at least to me, that the shifts we need to be in the world are primarily inner; that the truly urgent work is in healing both our own and the global human psyches, that we need urgently to remember how to connect with the web of life so that we can ask it 'What do you want of me?' and respond to the answers in real time. That we need, in short. to evolve. But we need mentors and guides along the way. It is possible that we could perhaps each carve out our own route, but part of being human is sharing best practice, is having elders and mentors who open the doors of possibility for those who strive to walk the ways of healing. And this week's guest is one of those elders and mentors; he's a trailblazer of the most incandescent kind. Professor Christopher Bache is professor emeritus in the department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Youngstown State University, adjunct faculty at the California Institute of Integral Studies, Emeritus Fellow at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, and on the Advisory Council of Grof Legacy Training.  He grew up in a Catholic household in the southern US and spent 4 years at a seminary training to be a priest before deciding this wasn't the path for him.  Moving into academia, he took degrees in the US and at Cambridge and finally a PhD by the end of which he had concluded that, 'using language derived from finite existence to describe an infinite God was like shining flashlights at the stars.'  He duly finished graduate school as 'a deeply convinced agnostic with a strong atheistic bent' and went on to teach the philosophy of religion as an academic study. So far, so academically straight.  He took a post teaching at Youngstown University in Ohio - and then he read Ian Stevenson on reincarnation and Stanislav Grof's work on LSD.  And 45 years later, I read his book, 'Diamonds from Heaven: LSD and the Mind of the Universe' and realised that here was someone who had walked with the Heart Mind of the Universe.  Here is someone who has taken himself to the edge of being, in order to understand the process.  As you'll hear, over the course of 20 years, he took 73 truly heroic doses of LSD in very carefully controlled conditions and then, over the past 20 years, he has reflected deeply on the results.  I'll let him tell his story: it's truly remarkable.  And what he brings to us is visions of how humanity could be: it's not guaranteed - but it's the opening to a door of possibility where every one of us can play a part, where, as he says, if we can align ourselves with the needs of the living planet, find out what's ours to do and devote ourselves to doing it, we have no idea what might arise. For many of us, this feels like a true dark night of the soul. So I offer this conversation as a ray of potential, that out of this immense pressure, might arise the conscious evolution of humanity: if we can all find ways to be the change.  Chris Bache website https://chrisbache.com/ABOUTChris Books https://chrisbache.com/BOOKS-1New Extended Edition of The Living Classroom https://sunypress.edu/Books/T/The-Living-Classroom-Second-EditionStanislav Grof (a website devoted to him and his works) https://www.stangrof.com/Bill Barnard Liquid Light Book https://liquidlightbook.com/Soul Centered Healing https://uk.bookshop.org/p/books/soul-centered-healing-a-psychologist-s-extraordinary-journey-into-the-realms-of-sub-personalities-spirits-and-past-lives-ed-d-thomas-zinser/310221?ean=9780983429401

Peter Russell is an author, speaker and leading thinker on consciousness and contemporary spirituality. Join us in this compelling episode with a luminary whose journey from theoretical physics to spiritual traditions and meditation offers profound insights. Peter's principal interest is the deeper, spiritual significance of the times we are passing through, believing the critical challenge today is freeing human thinking from the limited beliefs and attitudes that lie behind many of our problems - personal, social, and global. His reflections on consciousness, ego and the essence of spiritual traditions reveal the significance of expanding our awareness in an increasingly materialistic world. Peter shares his early explorations in India and subsequent shift towards Eastern philosophy, providing a fresh perspective on how spiritual teachings can guide us in addressing personal and global challenges. Discover the visionary idea of the "global brain," a concept Peter introduced in the early 1980s, where humanity acts as a kind of collective nervous system for our planet. We discuss how this interconnectedness - amplified by recent developments in AI and technology - holds the potential to both enhance and endanger human evolution. We delve into the fascinating question, "Can AI be conscious"? As we explore the nature of consciousness, Peter guides us through the intricate connection between meditation and self-awareness. His insights into finding stillness of mind and understanding the true self underscore the transformative power of meditation in fostering compassion and awareness. We ponder meaningful coincidences, Jung's synchronicity, and how stepping beyond our ego-driven selves might connect us to a collective consciousness. This conversation invites listeners to reflect on the mysteries of existence and the potential global impact of our spiritual awakening.Peter earned a first-class honors degree in theoretical physics and psychology - as well as a master's degree in computer science - at the University of Cambridge, England. He is on the faculty of the Institute of Noetic Sciences, a fellow of The World Business Academy and The Findhorn Foundation, and an Honorary Member of The Club of Budapest, and President of Science and NonDuality. peterrussell.comLiked what you heard? Within academia there's an insider saying about the 3-tiered letters of achievement ladder in recognition of one's degree of intellectual prowess.  It goes something like this, BS = Bullsh@t, MS = More Sh#t and PhD = Piled high & Deep.  A humorous rendition for sure, but, unfortunately, spot on! Many of us who suffered the hallowed halls of higher education soon-after developed acute 'buyers remorse'.  Fortunately, the veils of deception grow thinner daily revealing that all that we were taught was up-side down.  Our special guest for this episode, Mark Goble, is here to lend his perspective on whether we should "just trust the science". Mark Gober is the author of “An End to Upside Down Thinking” (2018), which won the IPPY award for best science book of the year. He is also the author of “An End to Upside Down Living” (2020), “An End to Upside Down Liberty” (2021), “An End to Upside Down Contact” (2022), “An End to the Upside Down Reset” (2023), “An End to Upside Down Medicine” (2023); and “An End to the Upside Down Cosmos” (2024); and he is the host of the podcast “Where Is My Mind?” (2019). Mark serves on the board of the Institute of Noetic Sciences, was a partner at Sherpa Technology Group in Silicon Valley, and worked as an investment banking analyst with UBS in New York. He has been named one of IAM's Strategy 300: The World's Leading Intellectual Property Strategists. Gober graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University, where he wrote an award-winning thesis on Daniel Kahneman's Nobel Prize–winning “Prospect Theory” and was elected a captain of Princeton's Division I tennis team. Ongoing planetary transits are continually activating cosmic energies, which in turn impact humanity. A particularly significant transit is that of Pluto, the planet associated with transformation, shadows, death, and rebirth. Pluto has been doing a little “dance” moved into Aquarius and then retrograded back into Capricorn, leading to considerable upheaval and transformation in themes related to systems, structures, business, and government. This transit encourages breaking free from traditional constraints and exploring new identities and ways of being.Expect a surge in revolutionary ideas and unconventional approaches to problems, as Pluto encourages people to challenge the status quo and seek transformative solutions. Where I am, we are moving deeper into the fall season and noticing the days are getting shorter, the light is shifting.. the Veils are thinning.  An expression used in spiritual, mystical, and even poetic contexts. It suggests that the barriers between different realms of existence— the physical and spiritual worlds—are becoming less pronounced. Opening us up to increased awareness and sensitivity to spiritual experiences, energies, or insights. it is believed that the boundary between the living and the spiritual is more permeable. It can evoke a sense of heightened intuition, connection to the unseen, or the potential for profound revelations This also speaks to a collective shift in awareness. As more people become attuned to spiritual practices and consciousness, the overall understanding of interconnectedness and spirituality may deepen. It is a time to explore your spiritual paths, embrace transformation, and connect more deeply with both yourself and the broader universe. Expanding Consciousness is the subject on my next several podcasts.. exploring ways to expand your conspicuousness, some of our formative teachers and how you can get out of your box, and allow your Soul to guide you. On today's episode, we welcome Dr. Siri Zemel, a doctor of mind-body medicine and a channeler of light language. This fascinating conversation invites us to explore the thin veil between the physical and spiritual worlds through Siri's personal journey of awakening. She shares the unique story of how she first experienced channeling as a child, long before she even knew what it was. Growing up, she had conversations with what she thought were imaginary friends. But as she matured, those experiences were tucked away, buried under the demands and expectations of the everyday world. As she journeyed through life, Siri followed a path that led her deep into the realms of academia. From studying nutrition to pursuing a Ph.D. in mind-body medicine, she spent nearly two decades working in behavioral healthcare and obesity research. Yet, as her life unfolded, there was always a lingering sense of something missing. That missing piece, it turns out, was the spiritual connection she had as a child—the very essence of her being, seeking expression once again. In her words, "When those words come across my lips, I feel a sense of connectedness, a sense of euphoria, a sense of oneness that is indescribable."It was during her time studying mind-body medicine that Siri found the space to normalize and explore her channeling experiences. She explains how channeling manifested through her as an unknown language—a light language—flowing through her. This experience brought forth both physical and spiritual challenges, as her body adapted to channeling immense energies from the spirit world. Siri describes the initial difficulty of allowing this energy to pass through her body, often resulting in headaches and exhaustion. Yet over time, she learned to manage and integrate these powerful experiences, allowing them to enhance both her life and her work.In a time of global upheaval and personal transformation during the COVID-19 pandemic, Siri felt a deep calling to step into her authenticity. She decided to embrace her spiritual gifts fully, no longer hiding the fact that she was a channeler. This act of coming out as a spiritual channel marked a turning point. She shifted from compartmentalizing her life to integrating her professional and spiritual selves. The skies did not fall, as she humorously reflects, and instead, she found herself more aligned with her true purpose. Dr. Siri Zemel reminds us that living authentically is a beautiful, albeit sometimes terrifying, process. Her journey didn't stop there. Realizing that many like her were having similar awakenings, Siri collaborated with the Institute of Noetic Sciences to research the ethical standards needed for mediums and channelers. Through a comprehensive study, they found overwhelming support from the spiritual community to formalize ethical practices and professional guidelines. As more people come into their spiritual gifts, this effort aims to ensure that the practice remains grounded in integrity and credibility.SPIRITUAL TAKEAWAYSChanneling is a way to reconnect with a deeper, indescribable sense of oneness: Siri's experiences remind us that spiritual practices can offer profound feelings of unity and connection with the divine. Her light language comes from a place beyond the known world, bridging the gap between the human experience and higher realms of consciousness.Spiritual authenticity often requires personal transformation: Like Siri, many of us may suppress or ignore our spiritual gifts to fit into societal norms. But stepping into our true selves, as terrifying as it may seem, can lead to greater fulfillment and a richer sense of purpose.Ethics and integrity are essential in spiritual practices: As the spiritual community grows, Siri's work emphasizes the need for professional standards to protect both practitioners and those they serve. Her research into ethical standards for mediums and channelers reflects the growing demand for credibility and integrity in these fields. In this profound conversation, Dr. Siri Zemel opens a door to the mystical dimensions of human existence. Her story reminds us that we are all on a journey of self-discovery, and sometimes, that journey takes us to places beyond the ordinary. Whether through channeling, meditation, or simple self-reflection, the search for deeper meaning is one that we all share. Please enjoy my conversation with Dr. Siri Zemel.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/next-level-soul-podcast-with-alex-ferrari--4858435/support.

EPISODE #1090 CONTACT AND CONSCIOUSNESS Richard welcomes an author and Board Member of the Institute of Noetic Sciences for a wide-ranging conversation relating to UFO/ET Contact, starting with the essential question: Are We Alone? The answer, says Mark Grober, is a resounding, "NO." Humans exist among a variety of advanced species, sometimes identified as aliens, spirits, beings of light, and beyond. In fact, our civilization seems to be regularly influenced by such nonhuman intelligences, even if we're not always aware of it. Near-death experiences and other phenomena of consciousness reveal that some species exist in other dimensions that our eyes cannot ordinarily see. Similarly, UFOs and alien abductions—which were examined by the former head of psychiatry at Harvard—provide additional evidence that we are not alone. GUEST: Mark Gober has served on the Board of the Institute of Noetic Sciences since 2019. Our main course: a recent review in Frontiers of Psychology entitled, “What if consciousness is not an emergent property of the brain? Observational and empirical challenges to materialistic models”. In this conversation we take a thirty-thousand foot view of the history and future of the science of consciousness, the socioeconomic impediments to unflinching consciousness research, and the overwhelming weight of transcultural experience that make this such a promising domain for fundamental investigation.Enjoy, and thanks for listening!✨ Support This Work• Become a patron on Substack or Patreon• Buy original paintings and prints or commission new work• Buy the books we discuss from my Bookshop.org reading list• Help me find backing for my next big project Humans On The Loop• Join the conversation on Discord in the Holistic Technology & Wise Innovation and Future Fossils servers• Make one-off donations at @futurefossils on Venmo, $manfredmacx on CashApp, or @michaelgarfield on PayPal• Buy the show's music on Bandcamp — intro “Olympus Mons” from the Martian Arts EP & outro “Sonnet A” from the Double-Edged Sword EP✨ Related EpisodesDig into an extensive back catalog of consciousness-research-flavored episodes (psi phenomena, non-ordinary states, psychedelic neuroscience, oracular praxes, time and consciousness, etc.) at the Future Fossils Consciousness Research Spotify playlist or through the following Substack links:03 Tony Vigorito05 Mitch Schultz20 Joanna Harcourt-Smith27 Niles Heckman and Rak Razam30 Becca Tarnas37 The Ungoogleable Michaelangelo45 Kerri Welch57 Conner Habib and Mitch Mignano58 Shane Mauss69 Tim Freke78 Archan Nair88 Dennis McKenna99 Erik Davis100 The Teafaerie103 Tricia Eastman112 Mitsuaki Chi113 Sean Esbjörn-Hargens117 Eric Wargo119 Jeremy Johnson124 Norman Katz125A Stuart Kauffman (patrons only)126 Phil Ford and J.F. EPISODE #1074 THE GREAT RESET EXPLAINED Richard welcomes Mark Gober, author and IONS board member who deconstructs the Great Reset's stated vision. He demonstrates that while the proposed societal changes might sound compassionate, in practice they could be harmful. Moreover, the Great Reset largely aligns with a leftist worldview that dominates modern education and media—and it becomes even more entrenched because of unconscious psychological biases. Breaking through the fog of this programming allows one to see that the Great Reset risks bringing about a dystopia. GUEST: Mark Gober has served on the Board of the Institute of Noetic Sciences since 2019. He's an award-winning author of 6 books spanning the topics of consciousness science, spiritual awakening, political and economic theory, UFOs, the Great Reset, and medicine; and he is the host of the 2019 podcast series, "Where Is My Mind?" He is a magna cum laude graduate from Princeton, a former New York investment banker, and a former Partner at a Silicon Valley strategy firm.
