Ayesha Adamo is an academic, performing artist, and filmmaker currently working towards a PhD in Religion at Rice University under Jeffrey J. Kripal. Her dissertation project explores fluid cosmological ideas, both historically and in current quantum mechanics. She holds an MA in Religious Studies from Universiteit van Amsterdam's Centre for the History of Hermetic Philosophy & Related Currents and is a graduate of Barnard College, Columbia University, with a degree in music. Rumor has it she was once in an Asian pop band on EMI Records. Her most recent articles can be found in Anthropology of Consciousness and Religious Studies Review. She is also an ordained Hierophant and Grand Chief of Temple of Thelema. In this discussion, we first look at Georges Bataille and his interpretation of the Acéphale. Bataille (1897-1962) was a philosopher and intellectual, interested in surrealism, and anti- fascist, who, in 1937 founded two groups with the goal of exploring how combinations of power and ‘the sacred' were at play in society. The first group was called the College of Sociology that gave lectures (exoteric group); the second group was Acéphale, an esoteric ‘secret society.' Additionally, a public review by the same name, whose emblem was a headless man, was published in 1936. Ayesha talks a bit about this Acéphale emblem and what this represents, including remarks about the connections to Aleister Crowley's concept of The Abyss; the notion of receptivity, and the difference between the ‘magical' and ‘mystical' currents. Moving from Bataille to George Balanchine, the famous choreographer who co-founded the New York City Ballet Company in 1948; Balanchine is probably most known for his plotless ballets and minimalism, and has a famous quote, “Don't think Dear, just do!' Ayesha shares how are she is linking these two figures and the concept of the Acéphale. She is currently thinking about how the meditative state is the artist's state as well.Ayesha then expands on her 2023 article, “The League of Endarkenment: Hakim Bey and the Way of Disappearance into Nature” talking about “Endarkenment” and how this fits into this same area of headlessness, the mandrake, and disappearance.Lastly, taken from her paper abstract, Ayesha talks more about what she means by “the open fluidity of no-mind”  and “the performance of headless meditation.”*Note 1: I mistakenly say ‘Endarkment' instead of ‘Endarkenment' (my apologies!); plus, around the 29:00 minute mark, the name ‘D.T. Suzuki' is unfortunately cut off due to audio issues. Please find more information about Suzuki in the program notes below.*Note 2 (Not Ignoring the Elephant in the Room): Peter Lamborn Wilson, who wrote under the name ‘Hakim Bey,' was a controversial figure, and unfortunately, rumors have arisen surrounding some of his writings regarding NAMBLA. Accusations were made by a particular website (run by one person, a fellow anarchist) against Wilson, and due to the nature of the internet, damaging assumptions were made. This article A Tribute to Peter Lamborn Wilson - The Brooklyn Rail is a collection of testimonials, and discusses this matter in more detail, giving much needed context.PROGRAM NOTES:Ayesha Adamo | Student | The People of Rice | Rice UniversityAyesha Adamo | Rice University - Academia.eduInstagramAyesha Adamohttps://www.hds.harvard.edu/faculty-research/programs-and-centers/program-evolution-spirituality#:~:text=The%20Program%20for%20the%20Evolution%20of%20Spirituality%20%28PES%29,also%20prepares%20students%20for%20ministry%20in%20these%20mov (More information forthcoming regarding this program and how to join remotely!)It Takes a Lunatic | Officiële Netflix-websiteORGCHAOSMIK - GUSTAF BROMSD. Fran is a proper crypto OG, and as a builder in the space, was even there when Uniswap had their first airdrop. And we had an incredibly insightful and nuanced conversation around the history, present, and future of airdrops and points. tl;dr: we need to completely rethink how we frame and architect points and token distributions, and streaming tokens AFTER token launch as rewards makes a lot more sense. This is an awesome conversation for any marketer or founder trying to understand how to successfully launch a token that doesn't immediately dump and creates long-term value! Continuous gravitational wave emission from neutron stars with pinned superfluids in the core by Brynmor Haskell et al. on Wednesday 30 November We investigate the effect of a pinned superfluid component on the gravitational wave emission of a rotating neutron star. Pinning of superfluid vortices to the flux-tubes in the outer core (where the protons are likely to form a type-II superconductor) is a possible mechanism to sustain long-lived and non-axisymmetric neutron currents in the interior, that break the axial symmetry of the unperturbed hydrostatic configuration. We consider pinning-induced perturbations to a stationary corotating configuration, and determine upper limits on the strength of gravitational wave emission due to the pinning of vortices with a strong toroidal magnetic field of the kind predicted by recent magneto-hydrodynamic simulations of neutron star interiors. We estimate the contributions to gravitational wave emission from both the mass and current multipole generated by the pinned vorticity in the outer core, and find that the mass quadrupole can be large enough for gravitational waves to provide the dominant spindown torque in millisecond pulsars. arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/http://arxiv.org/abs/2211.15507v1

One of the barriers for crypto adoption today lies in connecting the legacy financial system to the decentralized one. While crypto ramps exist to allow the economic value to flow from fiat money into cryptoassets, and vice versa, the process can be painstakingly long for the inexperienced user, as it involves using a crypto exchange. One company that has built a bridge between the banking system and blockchain without the need to use crypto exchanges is Monerium. Everyone understands how IBANs work, and using a blockchain IBAN, you are able to move funds from your bank account to your crypto wallet in a few seconds through the Monerium platform. To discuss how your wallet is now your bank account, I spoke to Gísli Kristjánsson, the co-founder and CTO of Monerium. Topics covered; How Gísli's got interested with blockchain and founded Monerium (2:15) How money moves around the current banking system (6:38) What is Monerium and what are e-money (11:49) How to use Monerium to send money directly from bank account to crypto wallet (13:24) Minting process for e-money, and how it compares to stablecoins (19:32) Gas fees/transaction fees when using Monerium platform (22:46) How to get started with Monerium (24:38) Is Monerium a bank, and what happens to reserves if Monerium goes bankrupt (29:02) How to make e-money business profitable with negative interest rates in EU (32:39) Building on Monerium and using the open source API (using Request Network as example) (35:58) Challenges faced by Monerium for crypto adoption (40:35) Upcoming new features & partnerships (Request Finance, Superfluid) (43:12) Closing thoughts on Monerium's infrastructure to change how the world works (47:47) Brought to you by Request Finance - an all in one platform to manage and track invoices, salaries & expenses in crypto.

Smart contracts allow the transfer of digital assets automatically without the need for manual periodic transactions, in the form of a payment stream. Payment stream you ask? Allow me to break it down for you through a simple example. As an employee/freelancer, you are familiar with receiving your salary/fees in the form of a lump sum transfer. What if I told you could now receive crypto payment every second, in the form of a payment stream? On Episode 31, I had the opportunity to speak to Michele D'Aliessi, co-founder at Superfluid. Superfluid is pioneering the idea of programmable cash flows, or simply put, allowing a constant flow of transactions that are executed automatically on-chain. Payment streams would be impossible to do in traditional finance and have the potential to change how money works. Topics covered; Michele's story on how he first became interested with blockchain, and co-founded Superfluid (2:00) What is Superfluid and how it works (8:00) Basic uses cases for Superfluid protocol (subscriptions, salaries payments, dollar cost averaging, vesting) (10:37) DeFi use cases with Ricochet for Dollar Cost Averaging & Idle Finance for optimizing yield as you earn (11:51) NFT uses cases when buying land in the Metaverse (14:37) How to convince my employer to receive my salary in the form of a payment stream (16:39) Superfluid ecosystem (Diagonal, Request Finance) (23:50) Accounting for payment streams (30:07) Challenges faced by Superfluid for adoption (40:50) What Michele is looking forward to in 2022 in terms of adoption (44:09) Brought to you by Request Finance - an all in one platform to manage and track invoices, salaries & expenses in crypto.

In this episode, we are joined by Tony Rosler who is the founder of Diagonal, the Web3 Stripe Built on Superfluid. We had a super exciting conversation about web3, streaming money, allowing merchants to get paid every second for their services and products, and a lot more. Tony is also on an interesting journey where he has in a short time gone from studying and finishing university to taking part in several web3 hackathons such as the Eth hackathons and then got funding from many notable VC firms such as Coinbase Ventures to realize his ideas about letting people and business get paid and pay per second instead of a traditional monthly subscription. It was an interesting discussion as these kinds of small micropayments are not really possible in the web2 based payments industry Website: https://www.diagonal.finance/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/DiagonalFinance Discord: discord.diagonal.finance Tony on Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tony-rosler-774b54131/

Have you ever thought about being able to pay for a service or a product - such as renting an in-game NFT item or paying for a membership service - not in a lump sum but instead in a constant stream of micropayments that you can cancel at any time? Like Aave's flash loan, having a constant stream of cash flow is a new primitive in DeFi. In this episode I spoke with Francesco Renzi and Michele D'Aliessi from Superfluid Finance (https://www.superfluid.finance/) to look at features and use cases of this brand new DeFi primitive. The team is building out the product and helping developers to enhance their own applications. There is a very active Discord group where discussion is taking place. Please feel free to reach out to the team to discuss possible integration.

This week, Dr. Shireen Adenwalla shows that condensed matter physics is brimming not only with technological promise but also with strange and beautiful phenomena. Shireen introduces Jocelyn and Bradley to superconductivity, superfluidity, and other superlatives of condensed matter physics, and she tells us how she created the website Funsize Physics to bring this cutting-edge research to a broad audience. With a little help from Samuel L. Jackson (or is it Samuel R. Jackson?), the friends discuss Shireen’s current research on chiral molecules. Finally, with her trademark wit and wisdom, Shireen offers advice for young people, and especially young women, who are embarking on careers in science. Timothy Kotin was born and bred in Ghana. He is the co-founder and chief executive of SuperFluid Labs-- an ambitious African data analytics firm which supports enterprise clients spread across multiple sectors. Superfluid has offices in Kenya, Ghana and Germany. Kotin holds an MPhil. in Engineering for Sustainable Development from the University of Cambridge and a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Harvard University. Prior to co-founding Superfluids Labs, he worked as a research scientist at IBM as part of a team which developed financial services innovations for multinational enterprise clients in Africa. Before that, he worked for Dalberg’s New York and Nairobi offices— playing consultant to key public and private sector development actors such as the U.S. Government, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Open Society Foundations and the UN Foundation. In this conversation with Andile Masuku, Timothy relates how he and his team at Superfluid Labs have built a sustainable business around delivering business value through developing and deploying data analytics solutions, and explains why technical founders in his line of work who fail to rope in solid business development-oriented co-founders are likely to choke when reeling in the big fish.

In this talk, Siddharth Parameswaran discusses how a topological approach to 2D systems reveal that they can indeed become superfluid, and lead to surprising and beautiful universal results whose implications continue to resonate today. Superfluids spontaneously break a continuous symmetry linked to the conservation of particle number in a many-body system. Standard lore holds that such symmetries must remain unbroken at any temperature above absolute zero in a two-dimensional material, such as a thin sheet or film, apparently precluding superfluidity in such systems.

Second lecture "More is different" - how states of matter emerge from quantum theory Saturday morning of Theoretical Physics. With Professor Fabian Essler, introduction by Professor John Wheeler. Fabian Essler will discuss the hugely successful framework for classifying possible states of quantum matter, pioneered by the great Russian Nobel Laureate, Lev Landau. This framework is conceptually remarkably simple, but is broad enough to describe physics ranging from magnets to superconductors to fundamental physics in the guise of relativistic quantum field theory and the Higgs phenomenon. More on this mini-series; The properties of all forms of matter, from the most mundane to the most exotic kinds produced in advanced laboratories, are consequences of the laws of quantum mechanics. Understanding how macroscopic behaviour emerges from microscopic laws in a system of many particles is one of the intellectually most demanding, yet most important, challenges of physics, and is the subject of this series of lectures.
