Lee Smolin is a founding and senior faculty member at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics. He is best known for contributions to quantum gravity as a co-inventor of loop quantum gravity and deformed special relativity. Beyond his work in other areas of physics, Lee has written a number of best-selling books, the most recent of which is Einstein's Unfinished Revolution: The Search for What Lies Beyond the Quantum (Penguin, 2019). In this episode, Robinson and Lee discuss one of the main tenets that has characterized his work over the past decades: Realism. They first talk about realism in quantum mechanics before moving on to Lee's version of radical presentism, in which only what is occurring in the immediate present can be said to exist, before finishing the main body of their conversation with mathematics and its relation to both physics and cosmology. The episode ends with brief digressions on biology and living with Parkinson's disease. Lee is also an Honorary Fellow of the John Bell Institute for the Foundations of Physics. If you're interested in the foundations of physics—which you absolutely should be—then please check out the JBI, which is devoted to providing a home for research and education in this important area. Special Episode – Interview with Mark Anthony K of Projekt Gemineye, March 2023 We finally find some time to catch up with Mark Anthony K of Projekt Gemineye (and so many other things!) to discuss the upcoming release What Lies Beyond. We cover the inspiration for this new batch of songs and Mark treats us to a lively discussion of their topical nature. It wouldn't be the Palaver without some discussion of recording techniques and artwork. In the end, we here at the Palaver are very excited for this full release coming in April 2023. For most of us, the word “multiverse” probably conjures up some sort of fun sci-fi episode like the universe in which we all have hot dogs for fingers in Oscar contender ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once' or the parallel universe in Star Trek where there's an evil you with a moustache. Multiverses are just vehicles for our flights of fancy, right? Well, that's what we thought until Professor Will Kinney casually mentioned that the majority of physicists now accept that we live in a multiverse in an interview with us earlier this year. Laura Mersini-Houghton is a Professor of Theoretical Physics and Cosmology in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and author of 'Before the Big Bang: The Origin of the Universe and What Lies Beyond', she is also one such physicist, and furthermore, she says she has the evidence to back it up. She joins Jonathan to discuss.
Lee Smolin is a founding faculty member at Perimeter Institute and one of the world's best-known voices in theoretical physics. He is a co-founder of loop quantum gravity, together with Abhay Ashtekar and Carlo Rovelli. Smolin is also the author of numerous popular science books, including The Trouble with Physics, The Life of the Cosmos, and Einstein's Unfinished Revolution: The Search for What Lies Beyond the Quantum. In this conversation with Lauren and Colin, Smolin shares his philosophical outlook on quantum mechanics and argues that it is not a final theory, but rather points us in the direction of a new understanding of nature. He also discusses what motivates his popular writing, his challenges with Parkinson's disease, and how that struggle has shaped his perspectives in recent years. View the episode transcript here. Conversations at the Perimeter is co-hosted by Perimeter Teaching Faculty member Lauren Hayward and journalist-turned-science communicator Colin Hunter. In each episode, they chat with a guest scientist about their research, the challenges they encounter, and the drive that keeps them searching for answers. The podcast is produced by the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, a not-for-profit, charitable organization supported by a unique public-private model, including the Governments of Ontario and Canada. Perimeter Institute acknowledges that it is situated on the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Neutral peoples. It's Space; Don't Bother Screaming, Scotty! Stephen Oliver is an ex-software engineer who spent many years programming computers to make people's lives better. He was forced to retire in 2012 by the financial problems beginning in 2008. He now writes self-help, science fiction, space opera, fantasy, urban fantasy, paranormal, magical realism, horror, fairy tales, fairy stories, slipstream, interstitial, noir, detective fiction, action, thriller, humour, YA, and children's stories; often, more than one in a particular story. Over the past 8 years, he's written over 1,150,000 words. My story “Ghouls Just Want to Have Fun” was recently published in the anthology “Of Silver Bells and Chilling Tales” from Jazz House Publications. A second story titled “Generalist” was published in the anthology “What Lies Beyond” from Red Penguin Books at around the same time, and is slated for inclusion in their Best of the Year volume for 2020. Another story, “Orion”, is published in “Murder and Mayhem” by Dragon Soul Press on the 30th of July. A further seven short stories have been accepted for other anthologies but have not yet been published. Further examples can be found in the anthologies “Where the Wild Winds Blow” and “A Following Wind”. ---- Story Submission ---- Got a short story you'd like to submit? Submission guidelines can be found at TallTaleTV.com ---- About Tall Tale TV ---- My name is Chris Herron, and I narrate audiobooks. In 2015, poor control of my diabetes left me legally blind for the better part of a year. The doctors predicted an 80% chance I would never see again, but I changed the way I was living and through sheer willpower beat the odds. During this time I couldn't read or write. Two things that I had been turning to for comfort since I was a small child. With the sheer amount of stress I was under, this was devastating. My wife took me by the arm, lead me into the local library, and read out titles of audiobooks to me. I chose the audiobook versions of books I had loved such as the Disc World series, Name of the Wind, Harry Potter and more. They brought my favorite stories to life in ways I never thought possible and helped me through the darkest time of my life. Once my vision recovered, I maintained a love for audiobooks. I decided I would turn my focus from being a writer to becoming a narrator. I devised Tall Tale TV as a way to help out all the amazing authors in the writing communities I had come to love before my ordeal. I created Tall Tale TV to help aspiring authors by providing them with a promotional audiobook video. A way to showcase their skills with the written word. The challenge to a theoretical physicist pushing beyond our best current theories is that there are too many ways to go. What parts of the existing paradigm do you keep, which do you discard, and why make those choices? Among today’s theorists, Lee Smolin is unusually reflective about what principles should guide us in the construction of new theories. And he is happy to suggest radical revisions to well-established ideas, in areas from the nature of time to the workings of quantum mechanics. We talk about time, the universe, the role of philosophy, a new picture of spacetime, and the future of physics.Support Mindscape on Patreon.Lee Smolin received his Ph.D. in physics from Harvard University. He is currently on the faculty of the Perimeter Institute in Waterloo, Canada, where he was a founding member. Among his awards are the Majorana Prize, the Klopsteg Memorial Award, and the Buchalter Cosmology Prize. He is the author of several books, most recently Einstein’s Unfinished Revolution: The Search for What Lies Beyond the Quantum.Web sitePerimeter Institute pageGoogle Scholar publicationsAmazon author pageWikipedia
The Jamison family was really going through it in October of 2009 and decided to move into a container in the woods. Fair! The family left for a trip to view land in the Oklahoma wilderness, but they were never seen again. Their truck was found locked with all of their things inside (including the family dog) and an extensive search turned up nothing. The case went cold until their bodies were found FOUR YEARS later in the woods not far from the truck. Their bodies were too badly decomposed to rule a cause or manner of death, so literally no one knows what the hell happened in those mountains. But everyone has their theories, and they're all pretty wild. Buckle up for this one!! Don't forget to subscribe and follow the podcast on social media @TrulyHighCrime. Environmental philosopher and activist Rupert Read joins Terry to explore the current state of our ecological emergency, its philosophical implications, and our human responses. They probe into what kinds of understanding, spiritual growth, truth-telling, and nonviolent direct action are appropriate now. They also consider the kinds of communication and action that can coincide with rapid transformation, particularly the primal, and still-untapped power of parents’ love for our children. Rupert Read teaches Philosophy at the University of East Anglia, alongside leading environmental scientists, and he is the author of eight books, including This Civilisation is Finished: Conversations on the End of the Empire and What Lies Beyond. Rupert is a former chair of Green House think tank, a former Green Party of England and Wales councilor, a European parliamentary candidate, and a national parliamentary candidate. Valeria interview Danielle Aitken the author of Sarah's Story: Life After IVF: A Story Of Personal Triumph And Spiritual Growth Sarah's Story depicts one woman's journey before, during and most importantly after infertility by sensitively giving a heartfelt account of the reality and the emotional rollercoaster that is IVF, but it is much more than that. The story serves as a metaphor for anyone struggling to overcome adversity, as it shines a light of hope which leaves the reader feeling empowered by the ability we all possess to bring ourselves back from the depths of despair. Sarah's Story will move you from tears of sorrow to tears of joy as it provides a compelling insight into human potential and a person's capacity to turn their life around finding hope, meaning and inspiration where none previously existed. As a highly experienced nurse and midwife, Danielle Aitken has spent over twenty years working at the cutting edge of IVF in Australia. Now a counsellor and clinical hypnotherapist running a successful private practice, Danielle assists people to move through trauma and crisis by helping them to discover their inner strengths. When she is not writing, she is passionate about empowering people to achieve their goals and reach their true potential by working with the principals that are explored in the latter part of Sarah's Story. Sarah's Story, is a work of fiction based on the cumulative common experiences of countless numbers of women and men that Danielle encountered over twenty years of working in the area of infertility. This story is an inspirational narrative about self-discovery and transformation. It's a powerful story of love, life and resilience that leads the reader from the innocence of naivety through the emotional turmoil of unexpected despair and grief, then emerges out the other side as it skilfully illuminates human potential to triumph over adversity. After working in the infertility industry for over 20 years Danielle experienced first-hand the devastation that infertility can wreak on individuals, couples, friends and extended family alike. It can often be an insidious and unrelenting issue and there are many relationships that do not survive the experience. Danielle has utilized the insight and knowledge that she has gained on her own journey and sensitively displayed this throughout the pages of Sarah's Story. Danielle is blessed to be a mother of three beautiful children; Lachlan, Morgan and Rachel and stepmother to Jack. Grandmother to Imogen, Audrey and Brooklyn and she is currently excitedly awaiting the arrival of my fourth grandchild and she never takes this privilege for granted. The purpose of writing this book was to shine a light of hope in the darkness that illuminates the possibility that sometimes amazing outcomes can be born out of the deepest despair and each and every experience can provide us with valuable wisdom from which to create a new beginning. Danielle has just completed my second book; “THE RIPPLES. What Lies Beyond.” To learn more about Danielle Aitken please visit her website: https://www.danielleaitkenauthor.com.au/ For Intro-free episodes: https://www.patreon.com/aquestforwellbeingpodcast Podcast Page: https://fitforjoy.org/podcast ** Bio intro and outro one by Heidi Lynn Peters.

SUMMARY The party enters the village of Starren and has some time to kill while they are waiting on the lift to come down and take them up into the city of Starrengeld. The have a run in with a member of the traveling company who they previously rented their now heavily damaged cart from. Hearing about what had happened to them Lydia, the mayor of the village, pulled them into the tavern for some drinks to tell them about Grimfang. They learn that Grimfang is a large gnoll that may or may not be a myth, however, his band of gnolls that occasionally attack people on the road are very real. Unfortunately, the damage being done hasn’t been enough for Port Norsal’s leadership to get heavily involved, and dwarves do not have enough forces to wipe them out. Rem goes to talk to the leader of the village guard, the Black Guard, and is offered a nice sum of money if they can track down Grimfang’s camp and return with any useful information. After sorting everything out in the village, the lift up to Starrengeld touches down and the party begins their slow climb up the mountain. What lies beyond this great façade of physicality (realm of molecule driven illusions) is the greatest mysterious matter of them all, and the real final frontier of exploration. Professor of History, Mark Mirabello of Shawnee State University joined the program to discuss the different world traditions and beliefs on Death, Dying, and What Lies Beyond. In this edition of the Award Winning Mysterious Matters Podcast, Bob Bain and Professor Mark Mirabello have an enlightening and controversial discussion, focusing on the various beliefs of what happens to us after we leave the physical world of perceived reality. ►What is Death What exactly does death represent? Through our conversation Professor Mirabello discusses multiple belief systems and traditions on Life and on Death. How do you know for a fact that you are actually alive…and not dead? ►Dream Molecules Atoms, Elements, and Molecules are all around us but what if the reason we are seeing these elements is because we are dream beings. What if all that we can see with the naked eye, and through advanced technologies are merely elements which make up our illusion of a physical state of being. ►Where is Heaven Where is Heaven? That is a question asked by so many through thousands of years. People and even scientists have gazed into the sky, into space searching for evidence that Heaven, that God does exist. But what if we cannot find Heaven, or God, not because they do not exist but rather because we exist inside of them. Just as we have cells running through our bodies, we may also be like living cells within the body of God. There are some traditions that believe Humans have molecular galaxies, planets and life living within each one of us. ►Bill and Hillary Clinton's Voodoo Honeymoon Did you know that Bill Clinton and his new wife, Hillary Clinton went on a Honeymoon to Haiti (paid for by a family friend) and took part in a Voodoo Ceremony? If this intrigues you then listen to the podcast to find out more! ►Belief that Halloween Allows for Thinning of the Veil Thinning of the Veil is a word that describes an event that many believes actually happens every year in October. The Veil is a fabric of space, time and frequencies—all separating physicalites (I describe physicalites as those who deem themselves as being of a physical nature) and the energy based forms of conscious beings (otherwise known as Angels, Elementals, Demons, Ghosts, Spirits, and Haints). Every year Professor Mirabello does a lecture on Halloween at Shawnee State University. He goes through the beliefs and traditions from its purest form as originated from the Celtic harvest, and roots tied to Paganism. These and so much more await you on Episode #81 of Mysterious Matters, the top rated Paranormal Podcast and Alternative Topic Podcast.

Packed with pertinent information founded in the historical and linguistic study of the actual texts of the Bible (especially the infamous Leviticus verses), this episode tackles the problem of belief based homophobia both from a spiritual standpoint and an academic/theological standpoint.
