As Uganda marked 63 years of independence on October 9, 2025, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni delivered a wide-ranging address at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, focusing on the country's progress, stability, and future economic outlook. In his speech, the President paid tribute to the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) and other security agencies for preserving peace and security—pillars he described as essential for national development. He emphasized that without peace, no meaningful transformation can be achieved.Reflecting on Uganda's post-independence journey, Museveni recounted how the country's early decades were marred by political instability and economic collapse. He drew a sharp contrast between the turmoil of the past and the relative stability enjoyed under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) leadership, which he credited with ushering in reconciliation, unity, and long-term planning.Highlighting Uganda's ongoing economic transformation, Museveni pointed to key achievements in industrialization, value addition, and infrastructure. He singled out projects such as Kiira Motors as evidence that Uganda is entering a new phase—one driven by technology and innovation.Looking ahead, the President projected that Uganda's economy is expected to grow to USD 66.9 billion by the end of the next financial year, driven by strong growth in sectors such as oil and gas, agriculture, and manufacturing. He said that with oil production commencing soon, the economy could register double-digit growth, provided peace and policy stability are maintained.

Flying Bahamas Air and Modern Border RealitiesThis traveler's account chronicles an unexpected journey on Bahamas Air from Orlando to Nassau, challenging the airline's poor online reputation while revealing sobering truths about digital privacy at international borders. The Flight ExperienceDespite Bahamas Air's persistent two-star ratings warning of delays and lost luggage, the author found a more nuanced reality. A chance encounter with check-in agent Garfield—who recognized the author from YouTube—provided genuine Bahamian hospitality that transformed the experience. Garfield gifted a Bahamian flag and keychain in celebration of Independence Day, embodying the personal warmth that online reviews can't capture. The aircraft itself, a well-traveled Boeing 737-700 with a history spanning Copa Airlines and Lucky Air China, showed its age. Worn seats (likely salvaged from Southwest Airlines retirement), neglected safety cards, and dirty windows validated some operational criticisms. Yet the 51-minute flight for $129 delivered decent value and adequate legroom, completing its mission safely if imperfectly. The Border Reality CheckThe story's critical moment came at Bahamian immigration. An officer took the author's phone and systematically searched Instagram and YouTube, then used his personal device to research the author's channel. After disappearing for five minutes with both passport and phone, he returned everything without explanation. This encounter illuminates a crucial 21st-century travel truth: countries possess sovereign authority to examine travelers' digital lives. Border agencies worldwide can legally search devices and social media if deemed necessary for security—a power that transcends the Caribbean and applies at international borders globally.Key TakeawaysThe experience reveals that Caribbean regional carriers often trade operational polish for human connection, and that digital scrutiny at borders requires modern travelers to thoughtfully consider what devices they carry and what remains accessible when crossing international boundaries.Support the showTripCast360 --- It's all about travel, lifestyle and entertainment.Web: TripCast360.com.Twit: https://twitter.com/TripCast360FB: https://www.facebook.com/TripCast360Insta: https://www.instagram.com/tripcast360/
Today's Topic of the Day centred on Nigeria's Independence Day, opening up a deep dive into heritage, identity, and history. The mandem reflected on what independence really meant - whether Nigeria ever truly shook off colonial structures - and how the artificial borders left by Britain forced together hundreds of different peoples, languages, and religions. The conversation moved through the complexity of Nigeria's make-up: Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa and many more, with the divides of north and south, Christian and Muslim, shaping the country to this day. They debated Awolowo's claim that Nigeria was just a “geographical expression,” and whether unity has ever been fully possible in that context. From there, the history of the Biafran War came up - how it scarred generations, fractured trust, and left questions about what progress looks like in modern Nigeria. The discussion also pulled in the diaspora experience: how Nigerians abroad carry pride, resilience, and culture, but also face the same stereotypes and dismissals that the continent has long endured. The team closed by unpacking the “Ghana Must Go” episode - a reminder of how economic downturn and politics once led to mass expulsions and tension between West African nations, and how those same lessons still echo in today's migrant debates. It was more than a history lesson; it was a conversation about identity, belonging, and the struggle to define freedom on our own terms.

An AI-generated photo of President Trump slurping spaghetti beside King Charles made the rounds online (spaghetti wasn't even on the menu), while Buckingham Palace strongly denied reports of Trump's security team clashing with royal chefs. The President, meanwhile, hinted at inviting King Charles to the United States for America's 250th Independence Day celebration, praising the banquet at Windsor Castle as “beautiful” and calling the King “a wonderful guy.” Elsewhere, a resurfaced clip of Prince William taking his seat before the room sparked debate over whether he was breaking protocol—or proving he is the protocol. In Japan, Edward and Sophie stole the spotlight with a front-row sumo outing, complete with cushion-throwing jokes and golden-shovel tree planting. And in Norway, controversy erupted over Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett's new Netflix series, which the palace says violates their agreement to keep royal status out of commercial projects.

Greg Alba & Andrew Gordon (Cinepals) revisit the 1999 animated cult classic The Iron Giant, directed by Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol) and produced by Warner Bros. Animation, the same studio behind countless DC classics like Superman: The Animated Series. The film stars Vin Diesel (Fast & Furious, Guardians of the Galaxy) as the voice of the Giant, Eli Marienthal (American Pie) as young Hogarth Hughes, Jennifer Aniston (Friends, The Morning Show) as his mom Annie, Harry Connick Jr. (Hope Floats, Independence Day) as beatnik artist Dean, Christopher McDonald (Happy Gilmore, Requiem for a Dream) as the paranoid government agent Kent Mansley, and John Mahoney (Frasier, Say Anything) as General Rogard. We dive into iconic scenes like Hogarth teaching the Giant “You are who you choose to be,” the unforgettable “Superman” sacrifice, the deer scene that teaches the Giant about death, Kent Mansley's escalating paranoia, and the emotional Cold War-era standoff that culminates in one of the most powerful endings in animated history. Famous quotes include “I am not a gun” and the Giant's heartbreaking “Superman.” We explore why this film flopped at release yet became a beloved classic, its influence on modern superhero storytelling, and how its themes of identity, war, and compassion still resonate today. The 1994 science fiction movie Stargate is Dave's selection for this week. The film, which put director Roland Emmerich firmly on the Hollywood map, was marketed as an ambitious blend of ancient mythology and future spectacle long before it gave rise to a massive TV franchise. With Carolco Pictures supporting Emmerich and director Dean Devlin following their success with Universal Soldier, Stargate's production was ambitious for its time. In 1994, the film's visual effects were state-of-the-art, bringing its world to life with a blend of realistic effects, intricate set design, and early computer-generated imagery. Stargate was a huge movie office success, earning over $190 million worldwide and opening the door for Emmerich's subsequent triumphs like Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow, despite the fact that critics had differing opinions on how it was executed. If you enjoy the show, we have a Patreon, so become a supporter here.Referral links also help out the show if you were going to sign up:NordVPNNordPassTrailer Guy Plot SummaryAncient secrets… buried for thousands of years.A mysterious artifact… that defies explanation. And one discovery… that will open the door to another world. From director Roland Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin comes the sci-fi adventure that launched a universe. Today's Headlines: The FBI raided John Bolton's house over “classified docs” (read: political trolling), while Trump basically pulled off a hostile takeover of Intel, forcing the company to hand over 10% equity to the government. In D.C., National Guard troops are now openly armed, and Trump's talking about shipping them off to Chicago and New York like he's picking stops on a tour while Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth guts the Pentagon of anyone not Trump-loyal enough. Down in Florida, a judge froze the swampy “Alligator Alcatraz” detention center, but DeSantis bounced back with plans for a new “Deportation Depot.” ICE is still deporting people at lightning speed, including Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who's now being sent to Uganda with barely any notice. In other news, Russia's Lavrov went on U.S. TV to hint at peace talks (translation: Ukraine gives up land), while Zelensky celebrated Independence Day with Canada's billion-dollar aid package and a parade of European allies. At the same time, the Pentagon is quietly blocking Ukraine from using U.S. long-range missiles on Russia—because “wooing” Putin is apparently still the plan. And finally, Newsom is cutting green deals with Denmark like a real head of state, and the DOJ “accidentally” dumped a soft-focus interview with Ghislaine Maxwell the same day it was supposed to hand over Epstein files—timed perfectly with the Bolton raid. Funny how that works. On July 4th, CHUS took over Club MODE in downtown Miami for an unforgettable Independence Day celebration. The night opened with something special — his brand-new remix of Philip Z – Pineapple (DJ Chus Remix). For the past two years, MODE has been home to CHUS's Miami residency, also hosting other Stereo artists like Joeski and Technasia soon. It's an intimate room where the crowd comes to dance, feel the music, and leave their egos (and cell phones) at the door. A space built on pure energy and connection. If you're planning a trip to Miami, MODE is highly recommended. Now it's showtime.
Hello Gaslit Nation listeners! This conversation was recorded before war criminal Putin and convicted felon Trump staged their grotesque spectacle on the blood-red carpet in Alaska. For our analysis of that hellscape—and what it means for Ukraine and democracy defenders everywhere—be sure to check out the recording of the August 18th salon, coming soon to Patreon.com/Gaslit. Thank you for listening and supporting the show! * In Ukraine's Revolution of Dignity, we find a roadmap for fighting oligarchy, injustice, and despair. Historian Marci Shore, author of The Ukrainian Night: An Intimate History of Revolution, reminds us that revolutions rarely begin with grand plans. The 2014 EuroMaidan uprising started with students protesting a classic bait-and-switch. President Viktor Yanukovych, the Ukrainian Trump, ditched a long-promised agreement to move Ukraine closer to the European Union. Instead he took a massive bribe from Russia. When peaceful protesters gathered, Yanukovych sent in his riot police to beat them, like in Russia. This backfired. Their parents showed up. Then their neighbors. Then thousands more across the country. Within days, Kyiv was packed with hundreds of thousands of furious, freezing citizens demanding dignity, decency, and an end to oligarch rule. Yanukovych has been in exile in Russia ever since, awaiting his American counterpart, Trump. August 24 marks 34 years since Ukraine overwhelmingly voted to break free from Kremlin rule and declare its political independence. Ukraine's Independence Day is a reminder to never bet against people who've had enough. As historian Marci Shore shares urgent lessons for us today, saying, “The fact that it can happen at all means that somehow we human beings have that in us. We somehow have that capacity, and we have to cling to that hope.” Marci also discusses the debate many are having in America today: Do we stay or do we go? She and her husband the historian Tim Snyder made headlines when news broke they had relocated to Toronto, for impotant opportunities, ringing an alarm that authoritarian experts had left America. In this enlightening episode of Liberty and Learning, Mark Levin engages in a profound discussion with Dr. Larry Arnn, President of Hillsdale College, engage in a thought-provoking discussion about the Declaration of Independence and its lasting impact on American society. As the nation recently celebrated Independence Day, the conversation serves as a timely reminder of the principles that founded the United States. The episode begins with a reflection on the brilliance of the Declaration, described by Dr. Arnn as a "philosophic, political, theological masterpiece." He highlights the intellectual influences that shaped Thomas Jefferson's writing, noting that Jefferson drew from the ideas of great thinkers such as Plato, Aristotle, and John Locke. This rich philosophical background laid the groundwork for a document that would not only declare independence but also articulate the values of liberty and equality that define America. One of the key themes discussed is the evolution of religious freedom in America. Dr. Arnn explains how early settlers sought religious conformity, yet over time, they recognized the necessity of allowing diverse beliefs to flourish. This journey towards understanding the importance of religious freedom is a testament to the evolving nature of American society. As the conversation shifts to the Civil War, Levin and Arnn examine Abraham Lincoln's reliance on the Declaration of Independence to frame the moral argument against slavery. Lincoln's ability to connect the principles of the Declaration to the struggle for freedom and equality underscores the document's enduring relevance. Dr. Arnn emphasizes that Lincoln viewed the Declaration as the foundation of American identity, a perspective that resonates deeply in contemporary discussions about liberty and justice. The episode also addresses the challenges posed by modern progressivism. Levin and Arnn critique how some contemporary interpretations of the Declaration seek to distort its original meaning, arguing for a return to the foundational principles that have guided the nation. They discuss the dangers of viewing the Declaration as merely a historical artifact rather than a living document that continues to inspire and challenge Americans today.Listeners will come away from this episode with a deeper appreciation for the Declaration of Independence, not just as a historical document, but as a vital part of the American ethos. The insights shared by Levin and Arnn encourage us to reflect on our nation's founding principles and consider how they apply to the challenges we face in the present day.
