Your business name may be one of your most valuable assets, but is it actually protected? In this episode-style breakdown, we explore word mark trademarks and why they matter for startup founders, small business owners, creators, consultants, product companies, and anyone building a brand that customers need to recognize.A word mark trademark protects the wording of your brand name, slogan, product name, or phrase. It does not depend on your logo, font, color, or design style. That is why word marks are often so useful. Logos change. Websites change. Packaging changes. Sometimes the entire brand kit changes because someone discovered a new shade of blue and called it “strategic.” But the name often remains the anchor. This matters because customers usually search, recommend, and remember names. They type your name into Google. They say it in conversations. They tag it online. They compare it with competitors. If another business uses a confusingly similar name, the harm may happen even if the logos look completely different. We cover what a word mark is, how it differs from a logo trademark, and why the USPTO commonly refers to these as standard character marks when no particular font, style, size, or color is claimed. We also explain why distinctiveness matters. A made-up, arbitrary, or suggestive name is often stronger than a name that merely describes the product or service. That creates a real business tension. Descriptive names can be easier to market at first because customers immediately understand what you do. But they may be harder to protect. Distinctive names may require more explanation upfront but can become stronger long-term brand assets. We also talk through common mistakes. Registering an LLC does not automatically give you trademark rights. Buying a domain name does not mean you own the brand. Using ™ is not the same as having a federal registration. Filing a logo mark is not the same as protecting the wording of your name. For founders, these details matter because rebranding is expensive. It can affect your website, social profiles, packaging, signage, customer trust, SEO, ads, contracts, app listings, and every pitch deck you already sent into the wild. This episode also breaks down the practical steps: choose the exact wording, confirm it functions as a brand, evaluate distinctiveness, conduct a clearance search, identify the correct goods and services, decide whether to file based on current use or intent to use, file carefully, monitor the application, and maintain the registration after approval. We also discuss why trademark registration is not the finish line. A mark must be used consistently, monitored, and maintained. Enforcement should be strategic and proportionate. Not every conflict requires a lawsuit, but ignoring real confusion can weaken your position and damage customer trust. The big lesson is simple: your brand name is not just decoration. It is a business asset. A word mark can help protect that asset before competitors, copycats, or confusingly similar names start creating problems. If you are building a company, launching a product, creating a course, naming a podcast, or scaling a service business, this topic is worth understanding before you invest heavily in branding.Because copycats rarely arrive with a warning label. They usually show up with a similar name, a cheaper logo, and the confidence of someone who skipped the trademark search. To chat about this one-on-one, grab a free consult at strategymeeting.com

In this episode of the Harvest Growth Podcast, Jon LaClare sits down with Colton Forth, President of Juke Audio, to discuss how a personal home audio problem turned into a fast-growing consumer electronics brand.Colton shares how he and his father originally developed Juke Audio for their own family home after receiving expensive five-figure quotes for an in-ceiling speaker system. What started as a practical solution for their own needs eventually became a commercial product designed to make whole-home audio more affordable, elegant, and reliable. The conversation explores the advantages of built-in audio systems over bulky “wireless” speakers, especially for new construction, remodels, and retrofits. Colton explains why hardwired, centralized audio systems can offer better aesthetics, stronger reliability, and higher sound quality than many plug-in alternatives.Colton also walks through the early days of launching Juke Audio, including the unforgettable first sale around Thanksgiving 2019, the simple website that helped validate demand, and the handwritten notes that helped create early customer loyalty. From there, he shares how the company built trust through industry trade shows, awards, customer support, Crutchfield, Amazon, authentic founder-led social media content, and user-generated videos. This episode also dives into one of the toughest challenges product brands face: copycats. Colton explains how Juke Audio dealt with a company that copied its product design, logo, listings, and marketing assets — and how patents, legal action, strong branding, and founder authenticity helped protect the business. In today's episode of the Harvest Growth Podcast, we cover:Why built-in home audio can outperform bulky wireless speaker systemsHow Juke Audio started as a solution for Colton's own family homeWhat Colton learned from the company's very first saleHow handwritten notes and accessible customer support built early trustWhy industry awards and trade shows helped validate the brandHow Juke Audio earned a major retail partnership with CrutchfieldWhy authentic founder-led video ads can outperform overproduced contentHow user-generated content can fuel both marketing and product developmentWhat product founders should know about copycats, patents, and brand protectionWhy the best time to start building your business may be right nowIf you're building a premium product, launching a technical consumer brand, or trying to create trust in a competitive market, this episode offers practical insight into product validation, customer support, authentic marketing, and long-term brand protection. To learn more about Juke Audio, visit JukeAudio.com. Posting this off-schedule because the conversation got too loud to ignore. An emergency drop on copycats in the art world — both flavors of it. The viral DIY-the-painting-yourself video that's been making the rounds, and the bigger, quieter problem of artists copying other artists. I get into how I've navigated this with my coaching clients and gallery artists, the Pinterest misunderstanding that keeps people from marketing their work, why building your business on someone else's style will quietly tank your reputation, and the patience piece nobody wants to hear about. **Boys and Girls, We're Back! Tyler from MORRFlate Returns – Tire Inflation Wars, Copycats, Patents & Off-Road Innovation** We're back with another awesome episode of the Jeep Talk Show! Tyler from MORRFlate joins us again for a raw, honest conversation about building a business in the off-road world, dealing with big-time copycats, patent battles, and why competition (the right kind) actually drives innovation. Tyler has been wheeling Toyotas all over California since he was a kid, lives close to the Rubicon Trail, runs NorCal 4x4 Rescue, co-hosts the Snail Trail 4x4 Podcast, and has poured serious support into trail advocacy. In this return visit (first one was back in September 2025), he opens up about getting threatened by a major player, the reality of enforcing patents, and how a $3M company competes against $45M giants with deep marketing pockets. We dive deep into: - How MORRFlate's 4-tire inflation/deflation system works (connects all four tires as one big air tank, equalizes pressure automatically, saves massive time on the trail) - The frustration of direct copies (even stealing the signature neon green color) - Why patents aren't the silver bullet everyone thinks - Airflow limitations of Schrader valves and future ideas to fix the bottleneck - Building a company from a garage condo to a team of 8+ with a warehouse in Sacramento - Lifetime warranties, obsessive quality control, and hiring fellow off-roaders - AI chatbots on the website, robots in manufacturing, and how AI is changing marketing and product design Tyler also shares his 30-second elevator pitch: MORRFlate makes airing up and down your tires super convenient so you can actually enjoy the trail instead of babysitting a compressor. If you've ever deflated for traction, fought with individual tire hoses, or dreamed of faster air-ups on your Jeep, Toyota, or any rig — this one's for you. **Timestamps:** 00:00:00 Show Opening 00:00:10 Misnaming Moore Flat 00:00:31 Tyler's Background & Sales 00:01:19 Previous Interview & Threats 00:02:06 Acquisition Threat & Patent Journey 00:03:08 Patent Approval & Copycats 00:04:01 Company Name Confidential 00:04:33 Patent Enforcement Costs 00:05:21 Competition and Innovation 00:06:35 Amazon Listings & Pricing 00:08:03 RealTruck Ownership Impact 00:09:12 Podcast Monetization Issues 00:09:41 Morfleet Product Overview 00:11:07 Tire Deflation Benefits 00:12:59 Airflow Limits of Valves 00:13:28 Air Tank Volume Calculations 00:14:43 Limited Tank Capacity Demo 00:15:46 Compressor Performance Insights 00:16:24 Personal Projects & Ideas 00:17:40 Upcoming Valve Projects 00:19:07 Valve Interior Flow Restriction 00:21:41 Heavy Equipment Valve Solutions 00:23:48 Apex Rapid Valve Review 00:24:15 Challenges with Large Tires 00:24:59 Passion for Problem Solving 00:29:04 Warehouse & Quality Control 00:34:48 Lifetime Warranty Strategy 00:37:02 Customer Focus Assurance 00:38:22 Employee Attitude Culture 00:39:50 Testing Competitor Gear 00:40:51 People-Centric Philosophy 00:43:28 Corporate vs Small Business 00:44:07 Politics and Truth 00:45:47 Vendor Conflict Over Copying 00:49:05 AI Chatbot Deployment 00:50:30 AI, Quality Control & Robotics 00:53:25 AI in Product Design 00:54:51 AI Impact on Jobs 00:57:45 Minimum Wage Debate 00:58:49 Digital Media & AI 01:02:40 Show Recap & Future 01:04:25 Closing Thanks 01:06:38 Final Thanks & Friendship 01:09:02 Interview Conclusion **Links:** - MORRFlate Official Site: https://morrflate.com/ (Check out the Quad hose kits, Air Hub, and play with their AI chatbot!) - Tyler on Instagram/X: @4x4ToyotaTyler - MORRFlate on Social: @morrflate - Snail Trail 4x4 Podcast: Search "Snail Trail 4x4" on your favorite platform (830+ episodes!) This week on the podcast we're joined by Roma Vera , whose films have become some of the most recognizable and influential in the wedding world. In this conversation, we talk about originality, creative discipline, and what it takes to build work that still feels fresh after 16 years. Building in public helped me sell FeedbackPanda. That same radical transparency could now destroy a business overnight. With agentic coding tools, anyone can turn your publicly shared architecture, revenue numbers, and feature details into a working competitor in days—no coding skills required. What should you do when another photographer copies your work? Nothing. In this episode, I break down why the fear of "stolen ideas" is one of the biggest things holding creatives back. After a recent post sparked debate, I dive into the difference between inspiration and theft, what copyright actually protects, and why most photographers are focused on the wrong problem. We're talking about: Why ideas aren't the asset, execution is The truth about "first usage rights" and copyright How a scarcity mindset slows your growth Why competition is actually a good thing And how to position yourself so copycats don't matter Referencing insights from Austin Kleon and Steal Like an Artist, this episode reframes how creatives should think about originality, influence, and building a sustainable career. If you've ever been frustrated by someone "ripping off" your work, this is the perspective shift you need. https://jamespatrick.com/
It's a gut-wrenching feeling to have hosted a summit and then spot someone else using your name, theme, or idea. Copycats are common in the summit world and most hosts don't know how to protect themselves until it's too late. In this eye-opening episode, I sat down with award-winning trademark attorney Joey Vitale, founder of Indie Law and author of Legally Legit, to break down exactly how to safeguard your summit brand and stop copycats before they start. You'll learn what parts of your summit can (and can't) be legally protected, when to trademark your summit name, how many hosts make trademark protection harder than it needs to be, and more. Whether you're planning your first summit or running your fifth, this episode will help you build authority and peace of mind by protecting the brand you've worked so hard to create. Daniel Scharff, founder of Startup CPG, joins the Grow Everything podcast to share how he built the world's largest community for emerging consumer brands. With 35,000 members in their Slack channel and over 75 in-person events annually, Startup CPG is democratizing access to retail buyers, investors, and industry resources that would typically cost founders thousands in consulting fees. Daniel discusses the harsh realities of CPG entrepreneurship—including why only 20-25% of brands survive beyond a few years—and shares his playbook for success: prioritize great branding and taste over health claims, build scrappy and resourceful, and delay fundraising until you can command a meaningful valuation. He reveals patterns he's observed across thousands of brands, from the danger of copycat products in oversaturated categories (looking at you, chili crisps and prebiotic sodas) to the power of in-person connections for discovering innovation. Daniel also explains why Startup CPG operates on a "do good, do well" model, offering free resources to brands while building a sustainable business through sponsorships and events—and why he believes this approach could transform other industries beyond CPG.Grow Everything brings the bioeconomy to life. RV PODCAST NEWS EDITIONEpisode 586 - January 26, 2026Hey everybody, welcome to the RV Podcast News Edition. I'm Mike Wendland, and this is where we cut through the press releases, the hype, and the corporate spin to talk about what is really happening in the RV world. Now, quick programming note. If you are listening to this later in the week, we are watching a massive winter snow and ice storm that has affected campgrounds, travel plans, and even caused park closures across large parts of the country. Winter storm Fern has affected a huge swath of the country, 2,300 miles long, from Texas all the way to the East Coast. Ten states have reported more than a foot of snow. Many areas reported in excess of a half inch of ice. In some areas, an inch was reported, bringing down tree limbs across power lines. Well over a million customers have lost electric power and some may be without it for a week or more because of infrastructure damage and terrible road conditions. And as the snow, ice, and sleet slowly move off the eastern coast today, a massive cold front of arctic air is plunging much of the nation to dangerously cold temperatures. In the south, where temps rarely go below freezing, single-digit readings are being reported this morning.Obviously, this has affected many thousands in the RV Community. Fulltimers, even snowbirds who thought they were escaping the worst of winter in the mod south, are struggling to stay warm and keep the water running. The full affect of this storm is still be assessed but from everything we've been able to learn, RVers in the affected areas are reporting frozen water pumps at many campgrounds, propane shortages in the most affected areas and in some cases, no power. We've had reports from dozens of RVers impacted by the snow and overall, most say they are getting by. Most laid in plenty of bottled water, extra food, and made sure they had full tanks of propane and extra fuel for generators. One RVer - John, who lives in his Alliance fifth wheel in Missouri - said his biggest challenge was all the snow and ice piled on top of his slide out. He says the frigid air behind the snow isnt going to allow much melting and he is planning to get a ladder to clear the snow off.In Arkansas, a full-time couple - Sarah and Jim - said they wish they followed their friend's advice to haul their Jayco south towards Florida. “We have gone through two tanks of propane so far and the roads are so bad we can't get out to get them filled.” Her campground still has electricity but she said the lights have flickered and she expects she'll have to switch to generator power as the ice on the power lines is not melting.Perhaps the best assessment came from Ted, a Tennessee fulltimer, who lives in a fifth wheel on his own property along the Tennessee River.. “Most of us know what to do,” he said. “We can handle a week without power. We have a full fresh water tank and I have a 100 gallon propane tank to supplement the tanks in our rig. So we're dressed in heavy clothes and have extra blankets on the bed. This too shall pass.”Let's hope soon.Sop the storm dominates the RV news this week. But coming up, RVers are demanding a real voice with manufacturers, not a hand-picked group of industry insiders, and the response to that idea has been overwhelming. We will look at why campground reservations feel harder than ever to get, even as more parks are built. We will take a closer look at what is really happening in state parks, where long overdue upgrades are coming with some real tradeoffs. We will talk about used RV prices finally settling back toward reality. And we will have a little fun calling out how RV manufacturers keep copying each other's ideas, sometimes so closely it is honestly laughable. Before we get started…. a quick word about the RV Lifestyle Community at RVCommunity.com.If you are tired of ads, algorithms, and social media drama, this is different. It is a private, ad free community built by RVers, for RVers. Real conversations, real advice, real friendships. It is social media the way it SHOULD be.Learn more at RVCommunity.com.STORY 1 — It's Time RVers Had a Real VoiceFor years now, RVers have been talking among themselves about what is wrong with today's RVs.Too many quality issues. Too many poorly designed floorplans. Too many features that look great on a showroom floor but fail miserably in real life. And too often, it feels like no one in the industry is really listening. That thought hit home last week after a listener sent us a message that stopped us cold. He asked a simple but powerful question. Why don't RVers have a direct voice with manufacturers? With massive consolidation among RV manufacturers and dealers, buyers now have fewer real choices than ever before. You walk onto a mega dealer lot and see hundreds of rigs, but when you look closer, many are variations of the same designs, built by the same corporate parents, with the same lingering quality concerns. For many people ready to buy, the problem is not just price. It is confidence. They do not see the RV they actually want. And they are afraid to buy because of what they hear about reliability and workmanship. That is a terrible place for any industry to be.So it raises a bigger question.Who is speaking for real RVers?Right now, manufacturers mostly hear from dealers, sales teams, investors, and marketing departments. What is missing?Us.The people who actually live in these RVs. The ones who discover what works and what fails after thousands of miles of potholes, rainstorms, campground hookups, and real world use. Most feedback today is scattered across Facebook groups, YouTube comments, and forums. Thoughtful insights get buried in noise. That is not a system designed to build better RVs.It is a system designed to build frustration. So here is the idea that sparked a huge response. What if RVers spoke with one clear, organized, constructive voice?Imagine a live, moderated RVer Town Hall. Not a complaint fest. Not a shouting match. A serious conversation where experienced RVers present real world recommendations to manufacturers.Full timers and part timers. Fifth wheels and motorhomes. Retirees, families, weekend travelers.Talking about what actually matters.Build quality. Smarter layouts. Easier maintenance. Durability over decoration. Designs that match how people really camp.If structured properly and promoted well, manufacturers would pay attention. When customers speak thoughtfully and collectively, industries listen. Before we build anything like this, we want to hear from you.If you had five minutes with RV executives and engineers, what would you tell them? Not angry rants.Real ideas.Leave us a voicemail or send us an email at RVPodcast.com. We may feature your ideas on the podcast and use them as the foundation for a future live RVer Town Hall. This is not about tearing down manufacturers. It is about helping them build RVs that truly serve the people who buy them.Because the best RVs will not be created in boardrooms alone. They will be created when real RVers are finally heard.TRAVEL PLANNING WORKSHOP PROMOBefore we move on, a quick reminder. On February 5, I am hosting a live RV Travel Planning Workshop. This is where I walk you through how to plan smarter routes, find better campgrounds, avoid common mistakes, and build trips that actually match how you want to travel. It is practical, hands on, and you will walk away with a plan you can use immediately.Details and registration are available through our site, and I would love to have you join me.STORY 2 — Campgrounds Are Expanding, But Reservations Are Tighter Than EverHere is something RVers keep asking. If more campgrounds are being built, why does it feel harder than ever to get a reservation? On paper, things look good. New private parks are opening. Existing parks are adding sites. States are investing in infrastructure. But in practice, availability feels tighter than ever.RVers are traveling more often and staying longer. More parks are shifting toward monthly and seasonal stays for predictable income. Reservation systems make booking easier, but also more competitive. The result is a paradox.More campgrounds exist. But fewer open dates feel available. For RVers, this means planning earlier, being flexible, and sometimes looking beyond the most obvious destinations.STORY 3 — State Parks Are Upgrading, With Strings AttachedState parks are getting long overdue upgrades.New electrical systems. Rebuilt bathhouses. Extended sites for larger rigs. But these improvements come with tradeoffs.California has seen higher fees and reservation windows that fill in minutes. Florida has fewer first come, first served sites. Michigan's modernization brings 50 amp service and sewer hookups, but also higher nightly rates and tighter booking rules.Better infrastructure. Higher costs. Less spontaneity.State parks are still incredible values, but the old days of pulling in on a whim are fading fast.STORY 4 — Used RV Prices Are Finally Coming Back to EarthUsed RV prices continue to soften.Inventory is up. Buyers are cautious. Dealers are negotiating again. But buyers are selective.Condition matters. Maintenance records matter. Build quality matters. This shift is healthy. Confidence is returning, and patience is finally being rewarded.STORY 5 — Manufacturers Keep Copying Each Other, And It's Getting ObviousNow let's have a little fun, because this is one of those things you cannot unsee once you notice it.RV manufacturers love to talk about innovation. But if you walk a major RV show floor, you quickly realize how much copying is really going on.Case in point, the dinesk, that combination dining area and desk that slides, expands, and adapts depending on how you are using it.It was a standout feature in Brinkley RV models, clever, functional, and genuinely useful for how people live and work on the road.Fast forward to the Tampa RV SuperShow.Suddenly, a new Montana ad is showcasing a remarkably similar setup. And Winnebago rolls out a new towable with a nearly identical movable desk and dining combo.Coincidence? Not likely. And here is the part that makes industry veterans chuckle. Brinkley itself has been told that their dinesk concept resembles a similar idea introduced years ago by another fifth wheel manufacturer. In other words, the copying goes back generations. This is how the RV industry often works. One company takes a risk. Others watch carefully. And once the market responds, suddenly everyone has their own version.Sometimes that is healthy competition. But other times, it leads to stagnation. Instead of improving the idea, manufacturers simply replicate it, sometimes poorly, sometimes without understanding why it worked in the first place. The real opportunity here is not copying. It is listening.RVers know what features actually improve life on the road. They know what gets used every day, and what becomes a gimmick by the third trip.If manufacturers spent more time listening to real RVers and less time copying the rig across the aisle, innovation might actually mean something again.CLOSINGWhen you step back and look at all of this together, a pattern emerges.RVers want better built rigs. They want campgrounds they can actually access. They want state parks that balance upgrades with affordability. And they want to be heard. The RV lifestyle is thriving, but growth brings pressure. How the industry responds now will shape the next decade of RVing. Thanks for listening. We'll be back Wednesday with another Stories from the Road episode.

Pixel Flow! works because it combines familiarity with novelty. The core loop feels intuitive if you've played sorting or bench-based puzzle games, but the slinging and conveyor mechanics add speed, mastery, and tension. Difficulty is created through execution pressure, not confusion. Players feel smart when they win and responsible when they lose, which massively boosts engagement.Monetization is deceptively simple and very effective. Interstitials trigger on failed and completed levels, rewarded videos are optional and placed where they don't break flow, and there are no unnecessary ad placements on app open. Ads already contribute roughly 15–20% of revenue and perhaps even more, with room to grow, but the team clearly prioritizes uninterrupted gameplay to protect conversion and retention. The biggest growth driver is UA. Pixel Flow! skipped a traditional soft launch, went hard on AppLovin and Mintegral, then expanded rapidly to TikTok, Unity, Google, and Meta. In this eye-opening episode of Meta Ads: Under The Hood, Megan Winter sits down with Denise, the founder of Slappa's Thongs, Australia's original arch-support thong brand. What began as a personal need during pregnancy has since evolved into a business that blends comfort, innovation, and unapologetic authenticity. Learn More About Working with Lume Marketing Hire us to run your ads for you Learn how to run your own ads Denise shares the behind-the-scenes of building a brand with integrity. From navigating copycat competitors to walking away from the relentless sales cycle. You'll discover how strategic decisions around pricing, platform choice, and marketing authenticity have helped Slappa's thrive for over 15 years without compromising their values. Why eCommerce Entrepreneurs Should Listen By listening to this episode, eCommerce entrepreneurs will learn how to honour their brand's value while resisting the pressure to compete on price or scale unsustainably. Denise offers a transparent look at the practical and emotional journey of growing a product-based business with intention. From shifting mindsets around copycats to innovating with reverse pricing strategies, this episode is packed with grounded wisdom for any brand owner looking to grow profitably, sustainably, and authentically in the Meta ads space, and beyond. Key Takeaways Purpose-Led Product Innovation Slappa's was born out of a real need. Supportive, open footwear during pregnancy, and evolved into a truly unique product through smart design and manufacturing innovation. Being the Original Pays Off As the first Australian-designed arch-support thong using a one-piece closed-cell injection process, Slappa's owns its originality, and the moulds to prove it. Copycats as Compliments Denise shares the mindset shift that helped her see imitators not as threats, but as proof of Slappas' success and desirability. Realness as a Brand Differentiator From unpolished founder videos to direct DMs, Slappas thrives by being "real", a reflection of their Darwin roots and values-led approach. Rethinking Black Friday & Discount Culture After years of participating in sales cycles, Denise made the bold decision to opt out, highlighting how endless discounts train customers to wait for deals, not value. Reverse Pricing Strategy that Works Slappas launched a campaign where prices increased instead of dropping, driving urgency, conversions, and full-price sales with minimal ad spend. Meta Ads as the Core Platform Meta remains their most effective advertising channel, proving that a focused approach, paired with email and organic content, can outperform broader, scattered efforts. Scaling with Intention, Not External Pressure Denise made a conscious choice to stay small and self-funded, maintaining control while balancing business with family life. Check Denise out here: Slappas Thongs Website Final Thoughts This episode is a powerful reminder that you don't have to play by everyone else's rules to win in eCommerce. Slappa's has built a brand that lasts. Not because they followed the crowd, but because they followed their truth. Denise's story offers the kind of grounded inspiration and strategic insight that will resonate deeply with founders ready to do things differently.

Aliett Buttelman went from fashion model to co-founder of Fazit, a beauty brand that exploded after a viral Taylor Swift moment. This episode breaks down what actually drives real growth. In this episode I talk with Aliett Buttelman about what it takes to build a brand from scratch and survive hyper growth. Aliett explains how a decade in fashion modelling shaped his approach to creative work and why he walked away from consulting to build Fazit with co founder Nina LaBruna. She shares how their glitter freckles went viral when Taylor Swift wore them and what actually happens behind the scenes when sales jump by thousands of per cent overnight. We dig into supply chain pressure, copycats, international expansion and what it means to keep a brand focused when attention moves fast.Guest: Aliett Buttelman, co founder of FazitKey Takeaways:Virality only matters when a brand has the operational foundation to handle demand.Copycats are inevitable but innovation and strong brand identity create defensibility.International expansion requires clarity of vision, not speed for the sake of it.Founders need consistent decision making to avoid drifting away from their original mission.
Newsletter。Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/beartalk/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Today's Song of the Day is “Copycats” by hip-hop artist Danny Brown, featuring underscores. The song comes from Brown's new album, Stardust, which released November 7 on Warp Records.
What do you do when competitors copy your ideas, wording, or services? In this episode, we share a practical mindset shift: ideas are cheap—execution is everything. We explore how delivery, team training, client experience, and reliability become the differentiators copycats can't replicate. We talk through stability as a strategy, resisting reactive changes, and doubling down on strengths. We close with concrete ways to serve deeper, not louder, so you lead for years—not minutes. Main topics: Copying vs. true execution Delivery as differentiation Stability as a strategy Serve deeper, not louder Training and systems moat Main takeaway: "Because people can copy what you offer. They can't copy who you are." People can copy your prices, your services, even your words—but not you. Your standards, training, reliability, and care are built day after day through consistent delivery. That's the moat no one sees on a webpage. When imitation shows up, don't get reactive—get excellent. Keep serving deeper, refining your systems, and showing up for clients. Consistency beats mimicry every time. We can all probably remember a coach, mentor, or teacher whose interest and investment in us completely changed our lives. It's easy to see how others have impacted us, but not always what sort of impact we have on others. You were made to do for someone else what someone once did for you. But how do you go about it? The Love, Happiness and Success Podcast With Dr. Lisa Marie Bobby
Have you ever fantasized about quitting your job, starting your own business, and finally doing something that feels 100% yours? It sounds amazing… until you remember that entrepreneurism also comes with risk, uncertainty, and about a million ways things can go sideways. So what does it really take to be an entrepreneur? In this episode, I'm joined by Melissa Bernstein - entrepreneur, creative, author, mother of six, and co-founder of both the billion-dollar toy company Melissa & Doug and the wellness brand Lifelines. Melissa shares what it really takes to be an entrepreneur: the resilience to weather constant storms, the patience to love the process for years before you see results, and the clarity of purpose that keeps you moving forward when everything feels like it's falling apart. Episode Breakdown: 00:00 The Dream vs. Reality of Entrepreneurship 03:50 Start With Curiosity: Research Before You Launch 06:50 From Ingredients to Mission: Let Ideas Simmer 11:59 Resilience in Action: Setbacks, Copycats, and Mindset Shifts 18:22 The 3 Ps: Passion, Patience, and Purpose 20:46 Purpose Over Profit: Building a Legacy Brand 22:10 Patience Pays: A Decade to Real Traction 39:00 Openness to Experience: Beginner's Mind and “New Eyes” 42:39 Protect Fragile Ideas: Share Only When the Vision Is Clear As you listen, reflect with me: What's the mission you feel so strongly that you couldn't walk away from it, even if you tried? Do you love the process of what you want to create enough to stay with it for decades? And are you running toward something that lights you up, or just trying to escape something you don't like? If this conversation with Melissa got you thinking more deeply about your own path, I would love to help you take the next step. You can schedule a free consultation with me or a member of my team. It is a no-pressure chance to share what has been on your mind, whether that is growing in your career, clarifying your goals, or building more meaning into your work. I believe everyone deserves support as they figure out what is next, and these free consultations are one way I can make that support accessible. My hope is that you leave our time together feeling more clear, more encouraged, and more confident about where you are heading. And let's not let the conversation stop here. I'm always sharing new insights, encouragement, and little growth tools on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube - but what I really love is hearing from you. He helps small businesses, startups, and in e-commerce and digital marketers and inventors in their quest to obtain patent protection. Along with his team of attorneys. He counsels individual inventors and startups regarding the best steps to take for patent protection and when patent protection is available. Over the past 28 years, he has obtained more than £2,000 for his clients. And Rich is the host of the Innovations and Breakthroughs podcast and is the author of The Consumer Guide to Obtaining a Patent, published by the American Bar Association. So Rich, welcome to the podcast.Rich 00:00:46 Thanks so much, Josh. Thanks. Thanks for the warm introduction. And and really great to be on your podcast.Josh 00:00:51 Rich, I'm happy to say that we are a part of that number of 2000 plus, you know, patent successful patterns that you've been able to obtain and counting. Right.Rich 00:01:03 And counting.Josh 00:01:03 Yep. So thank you for your help and helping us get some of those design patterns that we've received for our business.Josh 00:01:10 So rich. Absolutely is the man.Rich 00:01:12 Absolutely. My pleasure. It's really exciting to see kind of what we're creating there in your company in terms of, asset value and protection, you know, against competitors. So, it's really cool. And someday we'll, we'll do a, you know, a Harvard business case study of some kind, to, you know, to take a look at what we've created here. I think it's pretty awesome.Josh 00:01:39 Well, I think that's the hope for both you and I that we're creating some significant value in the long run. Now, Rich, I shared this on previous podcast episodes as I shared some of the mistakes that I've made along my journey. One of those mistakes that I've made was not getting IP protection whatsoever for many of our products for four years, right? We literally went for in our business for four years before, you know, you and I fortunately met. And you're like, dude, you've got to start doing something here. And we had a great conversation.Josh 00:02:13 And now that we started getting copyrights issued for all of our products and then design design patents for some of our products, it's allowed us to actually protect more of our products, because prior to that, as many sellers know, as soon as you launch a product on Amazon, it's months, you know, sometimes as quick as a month later, sometimes 3 to 6 months later, you've got somebody copying your idea and being able to have something to protect yourself and even potentially get some of those other people knocked off or, you know, shut down their listings, I think is essential, especially as Amazon and e-commerce in general becomes more and more competitive. Would you agree with that, Rich?Rich 00:02:56 Yeah, absolutely I agree, and it's funny you mentioned that, like, you, you could put something up there for a month and then you'll find the competition and it's, it's almost as if. Well, I mean, it is as if there are tools that say, you know, copy this or copy that.Rich 00:03:10 There are analytics tools that, that, that point people in the direction of you when you're doing well. And so it's it's almost as if you're the software telling people, copy this guy, you know, and and so it really is, important to create as much of a moat as possible around, around what you're doing to prevent other people from, from copying you. and, you know, it's interesting to, like, in your case, like, a lot of your products are kind of content oriented, that copyrights are an option. for a lot of product ideas, copyrights are not really an option. They don't really provide, you know, covers don't provide protection for ideas. They provide protection for content type expression and then design patents, which you mentioned. Two are for the ornamental appearance for a product. The the look of a product. and I'd say the design patents are an issue for a lot are not an issue or an option for a lot of, sellers. Like if you have a product that has a unique look to it, then design patents are a good way to prevent other people from knocking you off by making a product that looks just like yours.Rich 00:04:24 So, you know, they're both effective tools, for protecting you on Amazon. So, yeah, I agree with all of that.

Welcome back to ask uncut where we unpack your deep, burning questions! There’s a new dating term called ‘shrekking’ and we feel as though it’s mean but it also has us questioning if we have ever been shrekked! SON NO LONGER CELEBRATES MOTHERS DAY WITH ME ON THE DAY BECAUSE OF HIS WIFEI have been a mother for 35 years and we have always celebrated Mother’s Day on the Sunday that mother’s day is … but now my daughter in law has hijacked it and now I have to meet my son and other kids on the Saturday before , because now Mothers Day is all about her. I have put up with it and haven’t said anything to my son , because I don’t want to put him in a bad position, but I’m really hurt by it. I think it’s really selfish that she doesn’t see how the situation would make me feel. We should be celebrating the day all together. Do I speak to them about it or just let it go? NEW BF LET ANOTHER GIRL SLEEP IN HIS BED FOR 3 WEEKSI was recently dating a guy (in the very early days, 6-8 dates in) & he had a German nanny/au pair staying with him & his mates for 3 weeks to help a friend out. He has 3 female housemates, and this German girl could have stayed in any of their 3 beds, or on their massive 5 seater lounge, but instead, he let her share his Queen bed with him for the 3 weeks. He claimed it was ‘purely platonic’ and that I had nothing to worry about. I found this quite odd though, and it made me question his intentions (with both of us). When I went over to his place on our 5th or so date, he had to text her asking her not to come into his (/her) room while I was there. All of her stuff was in his ensuite & on his bedside table. I made a ‘joke’ about how weird it was. He got defensive & accused me of being insecure, saying ‘this isn’t going to work if you get jealous every time I talk to another girl.’ He also insisted that this was a normal thing to do, to allow someone to share your bed without having sex with them. I don’t think it is, but I felt almost gaslit when I questioned him. What are your thoughts? I know we were not technically in an exclusive relationship yet, but we’d established from the get go that neither of us were casual daters & that we were dating for a life partner. DOES MY FRIEND WANT TO BE ME/ALWAYS COPYING MESo I have a situation where one of my good friends keeps copying everything that I do. At first it was cute and I tried to see it as a little bit of flattery but now it’s getting to the point where it’s incredibly irritating. It started off with small things like she started doing reformer Pilates because I was doing it, she then started with the exact same nutrition coach that I am using, she purchased a Stanley cup because I have one, she joined the exact same gym that I go to even though there are multiple closer to her, she got Botox in her jaw the same day that I told her I was getting mine done and more recently has planned a trip to New Zealand three days after me telling her I was going to New Zealand. At what point is this just fucking weird and how do I stop myself from losing my shit every time I find out she’s done something identical to me? Then, Mia brings an audio diary from a visit to Fabscrap, a textile recycling facility in Brooklyn, that is working to save fabric and other materials from the landfill. Fashion is a wasteful industry, not unlike tech — luckily, there are people like Fabscrap staff and volunteers who are working towards solutions.
