Bible Reading: Matthew 6:25-32"It's hard to believe you're already old enough to be in middle school this year, Mateo," Mom said as they drove home after shopping for school clothes."Don't remind me," Mateo said miserably. "I wish I could stay at my old school forever.""Why?" asked Mom."Last year there weren't any older kids to pick on us," replied Mateo. "I liked being one of the oldest kids in the school.""Sounds like you have the middle school blues before you even get there," said Mom."Well, this year my class will be the youngest, so we'll have to deal with all the older kids," said Mateo.Mom pointed to a little girl on a tricycle crossing the street with her mother. "Remember your tricycle?" she asked. "Why don't you ride it anymore?""Ride my tricycle?" asked Mateo in surprise. "That would look weird!" He grinned at the thought. "I'm too big to ride that thing now.""Remember how you prayed every night for weeks that you could take the training wheels off your first two-wheel bike?" Mom asked as the traffic light turned green and they went through the busy intersection. Mateo laughed. "I remember that. I didn't want to be a baby forever.""It seems like you do now," said Mom. "At least when it comes to school."Mateo frowned. "School is different.""Somewhat different," Mom said as they turned into their driveway. "But in a way, going from your tricycle to a bike with training wheels to a bike without them is a lot like going from elementary to middle school to high school." Mateo sighed. "I guess.""And whenever you fell off your tricycle or bike, Dad and I were there to help," Mom reminded him. "We're still here to help you--we'll support you and pray for you every day. And you should pray too! Give your worries to Jesus, and trust Him to help you deal with new situations. Even though middle school seems scary, He promises to be with you and use this new phase of your life to help you grow in your relationship with Him. Trust Him to help you one day at a time, and enjoy today!" –Ruth McQuilkinHow About You?Do you worry about going to a new school or moving to a new place? Do you wonder how things will turn out even further down the road--like finding a job or getting married? It's good to pray about future events in your life, but don't worry about them. Trust Jesus to guide you through the years ahead and help you through whatever changes you face. Then enjoy life with Him today! Today's Key Verse:Do not worry about tomorrow. Would you die for your kids? Most dads would. But would you live for them? In this powerful episode of the Dad Edge Podcast, I sit down with Andrew Jax—father of three, Australian natural bodybuilding champion, and founder of the “Ditch the Dad Fat” program. Known as the “6 Pack Dad,” Andrew shares how optimizing your health isn't just about looking good—it's about leading with strength, energy, and integrity at home. We explore the silent leadership of fatherhood, why most men's health declines after marriage, and how to reverse that trend with small, sustainable changes. Andrew breaks down the real cost of saying “I don't have time,” the importance of emotional and physical energy for our families, and how you can enjoy your pizza and beer—and still lose the dad bod. Whether you're already committed to health or just thinking about getting back in the game, this episode will fire you up and equip you with strategies you can use today.   TIMELINE SUMMARY: [0:00] - Would you die for your kids? What about live for them? [2:10] - Introducing Andrew Jax: father, champion bodybuilder, and coach [3:17] - Why health is a leadership issue, not just a vanity project [5:00] - The “Dad decline”: why men fall apart after marriage [8:22] - Guilt, shame, and why self-care isn't selfish [13:06] - The myth of “no time” and how to make fitness fit your life [17:07] - Why starting small matters—and why most men wait for a crisis [21:22] - Andrew's “Habit Sustainability Formula” explained [25:17] - Daily accountability: the #1 key to long-term success [28:10] - How to stay lean without relying on exercise [31:08] - Why sleep and stress management are crucial to fat loss [34:03] - Finding balance: eating clean without giving up your life [37:04] - Prioritizing protein, carbs, fats, and smart supplementation [43:08] - How Andrew leads his family spiritually, emotionally, and physically [46:10] - Where to connect and get a free copy of Andrew's book   5 KEY TAKEAWAYS 1. Health Is a Legacy Issue Your kids aren't just watching—they're modeling. Leading with health means passing on a generational inheritance of physical, emotional, and mental well-being. They'll follow your example more than your advice. 2. Self-Care Is Not Selfish Skipping your workout may feel noble in the moment, but long-term neglect robs your family of your energy, presence, and vitality. When you take care of yourself, you increase your capacity to take care of others. 3. You Don't Need Hours or Perfection You don't need five workouts a week or chicken and broccoli forever. Andrew's clients are busy dads and business owners who see results with three efficient sessions per week and a flexible, sustainable eating plan. 4. Daily Accountability Changes Everything Forget once-a-week check-ins. Andrew's clients get results through daily guidance and support. If you want real change, don't go it alone—build a system that keeps you on track every single day. 5. Lead at Home Like You Lead at Work Andrew's success isn't just in coaching—it's in how he shows up as a husband and father. He shares how servant leadership, spiritual alignment, and presence fuel his connection with his wife and kids every day.   LINKS & RESOURCES: Free copy of my Ditch The Dad Fat eBook: ditchthedadfatbook.gr8.com Free training on How Busy Dads Are Losing 10-35lbs & Reclaiming Their Health, Energy & Confidence In 6 Weeks Without Exercise or Extreme Diets: ditchthedadfat.com Ditch The Dad Fat Podcast: rebrand.ly/DTDFPodcast Dad Edge Podcast Website: https://www.thedadedge.com Episode Page: https://www.thedadedge.com/538 If this episode gave you fresh perspective or practical tips, please rate, follow, review, and share the podcast. Bible Reading: Psalm 130:5-7It felt like forever before it was Daisy's turn to ride the swinging ship. She watched the line slowly move forward each time a new group got on the ride. Finally, it was her turn!"Ready?" Dad grinned."More than ready!" Daisy hurried to find a seat. The ride was just as fun as she expected, and she screamed each time it went down. Her stomach flip-flopped a little, but she still loved it."Can we go again?" Daisy asked as soon as they were finished.Dad pointed toward the line. "It's still long.""I don't mind," Daisy said. Now that she knew how fun the ride was, she could wait forever."You're sure you wouldn't rather ride something else?" Dad asked, pointing toward a shorter line. Daisy quickly shook her head. Dad smiled and led her to the end of the long line. "Some things are worth waiting for, huh?""Yeah," Daisy said.Dad put his hand on her shoulder. "As you get older, you'll realize other things are worth waiting for too. Sometimes we have to be patient to get something good.""Like a ride on a swinging ship?" Daisy asked."And things even better than that," Dad said as they slowly moved forward in line. "God has good plans for you, Daisy. He loves you so much He sent Jesus to save you from sin and give you eternal life! You can trust Him to bring good things into your life at the right time. Be patient as you wait for Him to show you what they are.""What kind of things?" asked Daisy."Well, for example, it took a while for me to figure out God was calling me to be a pastor. Waiting for Him to lead me where He wanted me to go wasn't easy, but it helped me grow in my relationship with Jesus." Dad smiled. "You can trust God to lead you in what's best for your life too."Daisy nodded. The line didn't seem so bad when her dad was talking, and she knew how much fun she was going to have at the end. She was glad she could trust God to help her be patient and wait for the good things He had planned for her too. –Bethany AckerHow About You?Do you ever get impatient? Think of something you know is worth waiting for--like a fun ride or cookies baking in the oven. The good things God has planned for you are worth the wait too. He loves you so much that Jesus died and rose again to save you, and He has good plans for you. Be patient as you wait for Him to show them to you.Today's Key Verse:"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Bible Reading: Proverbs 6:20-23; 1 John 1:6-7"Whoo, whoo, whoooo!" Kaylee heard the soft hoot of an owl floating through the still night air as she and her dad walked along a narrow path on their way to see the moon rise over the lake. An owl! she thought. She shined her flashlight toward the treetops, hoping to get a glimpse of the bird, but she couldn't see anything. As she looked straight up and searched the branches, her foot caught on a root sticking up from the path, and she fell down hard."Kaylee, are you all right?" Dad hurried to help her up. "What happened?""I tripped on a root," said Kaylee, getting up and brushing herself off. "I was pointing my flashlight up at the trees to see if I could find the owl. I guess I should have kept my light on the path.""Yeah, I guess so," said Dad with a smile. They continued their walk and soon reached the beach. The lake was calm and glassy, and a beautiful silver path led to the moon hanging low over the dark water. They stood and enjoyed the scene in silence for a while. "Well, we'd better head back," Dad finally said. "Be sure to keep your light on the path this time.""I will!" Kaylee assured him. "I've learned my lesson. That owl can hoot all he wants--I'm gonna watch where I'm going!""I've been thinking about a verse in Psalms--one that says God's Word is a light for our path," Dad said as they started back. "If we forget to shine the light of God's Word on our lives, it can cause us to trip and fall in our walk with Jesus.""That would be worse than the fall I took, wouldn't it?" said Kaylee. Dad nodded. "Jesus is our light in this dark world--He saved us and promises us eternal life with Him. That's why we need to let His truth light our way and guide us in how we live. And when we trip and fall into sin, the Bible says Jesus will always forgive us when we confess our wrongs."Kaylee smiled. "I'll listen to what God says in the Bible so His light will shine on my path--just like this flashlight!" –Judith K. BoogaartHow About You?Do you take time to read your Bible? Do you listen when others teach about it and ask them to explain things you don't understand? As you study God's Word in your walk with Jesus, it will remind you that you belong to Him and show you how He wants you to turn from sin and love others. Hammerstone Meets Woofstock, 20min., Canada Directed by Josh Holliday A film that straddles the line between narrative and documentary, landing squarely on comedy. Steve Hammerstone is a small town radio host and big time buffoon, who's sent to explore Woofstock: North America's largest festival for dogs. Get to know the filmmaker: What motivated you to make this film? My friend and Lisa and I had done these small town radio host characters “Steve and Tawny” on CBC radio and through podcast for many years. Just before the pandemic, we were judges for Woofstock, and had so much fun doing it. Afterwards I had great regret that we had no record of that live event, so I set my sights on the next Woofstock. Unfortunately, COVID-19 came along and threw a wrench in the plan until 2024. I had stayed in touch with one of the founders and organizers over the years, and as soon as I knew a new version was coming, I made sure I was a part of it. I've always loved buffoon comedy. After many years working in radio and audio, I finally got around to fulfilling my high school mantra: “I want to write, act and direct for television and film.” From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film? Well, outside of the ideation and desire to do this project, pre-pandemic, the time started ticking as soon as I knew there was going to be a new Woodstock event. So that was probably in February or March of 2024. That set a very specific deadline for the actual shoot day. Woofstock generally happens over 2 days of a weekend. The day I was selected to judge was the Sunday. After the shoot, I worked with an editor to chop it down to under 20. Once that was done did some titles, post audio, and some audio cleanup. Had a friends and family screening on August 28th, so about 7 months in total from pre-production to final cut. How would you describe your film in two words!? Buffoon comedy. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film? Ha! This is a tough one, there are a few. The old wig I'd been using for this character for years had gotten really unruly, so I ordered a new one from this company in BC and what they sent was nothing like what was pictured on their website. They did not answer any emails, or calls, and eventually I had to initiate a chargeback process with my credit card company. I had to make do with the old wig, and put a baseball hat on. I have really bad eyesight, and the glasses I'd used in the past for the character were a pair of my dad's from the 80s with no lenses. When I did the Woofstock years ago I remember spending most of the day in character in a literal blur. I hunted online for a pair of glasses that were similar that I could get real lenses put in. I did that – and because of my prescription it took awhile. Well, the joke was on me, because the optometrist screwed up, and the lenses were essentially reading glass lenses – super-blurry except reading. It also detracted from the character, because so much of comedy is in the eyes, and the lenses had a real distorting effect. It was too late to get them changed before the event. The new glasses also just didn't have the same look as my Dad's old pair. (I've since put real lenses in my Dad's vintage frames.)This was all before the shoot!Shoot day was a whole new challenge. Bible Reading: Isaiah 41:8-10; John 14:16-17Evelyn peeked through the blinds of her bedroom window at the SOLD! sign on her front lawn. She turned back to the sea of boxes surrounding her as a tear slipped from her eye and landed with a wet splat on the cardboard.I can't decide if I want my butterfly pillow at Mom's apartment or Dad's house, she thought. With a big sigh, she threw it into the box marked Mom along with some other toys and books.Evelyn's mom knocked on her door. "Evelyn, is everything okay in there? You need to be finished packing by lunchtime."When Evelyn didn't answer, Mom opened the door and found her silently crying over the open box. "What is it?" Mom asked, wrapping her tightly in a hug."I can't decide if I want my butterfly pillow at your apartment or Dad's house. I need it to fall asleep," Evelyn said, wiping her eyes. "Why do we have to sell our house and move into two separate places? I want my pillow with me every night! And I want you and Dad with me every night too.""I'm so sorry our divorce has hurt you so badly, Evelyn," Mom said, rubbing her arm. "We both love you very much, even when we're not with you. And the good news is you can take your pillow to Dad's house and then bring it back to my apartment. Your pillow can go everywhere with you. You never have to leave it behind." Mom picked up Evelyn's Bible from the open cardboard box. "Just like God promised us in the Bible that He would never leave us. When you trusted in Jesus, God gave you the Holy Spirit to help you, comfort you, and guide you. He is always with you, Evelyn, even when Dad and I are not."Mom gently placed Evelyn's butterfly pillow and Bible into her backpack. "How about we keep these two special things in your bag so they're easy to take back and forth between my apartment and Dad's house?"Evelyn glanced out the window again at the sign in her yard. "Okay," she said. "I guess I can give it a try." –Nicole KraayenbrinkHow About You?Have you experienced the pain and feelings of abandonment that divorce brings? Parents often live with the fear that they won't be able to give their children everything they need- much less the things they want. And let's face it, with the rising costs of housing and groceries, parents have a lot to juggle just to pay the bills. In this episode, Cameron and Anna address the heartache that comes with our limited financial resources, and they offer the reminder that God does not expect us to provide Disney vacations and private tutors for our children. Rather, he asks us to show our children what it looks like to love him, and this is something where every Christian parent has ample resources to give their family.  Luke 18:18-30Parents, What Are You Teaching Your Kids about Money? by Tracey Rector The Grace of Giving by Katie Polski Romans 8:31-37Psalm 61:1-4 Romans 8 for ParentsWhy Teenagers Need to Know that God is For Us by Steve Eatmon Mom and Dad, Nothing Can Separate You from the Love of Christ by Dan Hallock Follow @therootedministry on Instagram for more updates Register for Rooted 2025 Conference in Chicago

✅ Why Kobe chose carpool line over million-dollar meetings ✅ The "TEA" framework (Time, Energy, Attention) that will transform your fathering ✅ Simple practices like 10-minute wrestling time and Wine Wednesdays that create deep family connection FULL SHOW NOTES: SUMMARY Life moves fast, and without intentional direction, we can end up achieving things that don't actually matter. In this episode, John Olinger—former Nike executive and global brand director for Kobe Bryant—shares how tragedy, transition, and the halfway point of life led him to redefine success. You'll hear about his "TEA" framework (Time, Energy, Attention), why Kobe chose carpool line over meetings, and how simple practices like 10-minute wrestling sessions and Wine Wednesdays can transform your family relationships. TAKEAWAYS: Winning is subjective—you must define what success looks like for your family before you can achieve it Your Time, Energy, and Attention (TEA) are finite resources that must be strategically invested in what matters most The halfway point of life (around age 40) is a crucial inflection point for dads to pause and redirect toward meaningful priorities Quality connection moments with kids don't require huge time investments—10 minutes of wrestling or monthly birthday dates can be transformational Relationships matter more than accomplishments, and great stories require embracing challenge and difficulty Creating structured connection points (like Wine Wednesdays for marriage) protects what's most important from the chaos of daily life QUOTES: "Winning is subjective. And the only way you can win is if you get extremely clear about what it means to win." - John Olinger "We're under attack all day long from distractions, our brains playing tricks on us about what things are fulfilling in the moment, going after short hits of dopamine, chasing success and accomplishments at the expense of other things." - John Olinger "The reason why [Kobe] worked out at 4am was because he wanted to be there in the morning when his kids got up and before they went to school... At two o'clock, he's done. Hard stop. Why? He's got to go to the carpool line." - John Olinger "Can you just pause and say, what's one thing that's simple that I could apply to point into the relationships with the people that matter the most to me?" - John Olinger "If I'm halfway done, that means that every year for the rest of my life is gonna be between one and 2% of the remaining amount of my life. Do I wanna wait for later to do the things that are most important?" - John Olinger GUEST John Olinger is the author of "Worthy Wins: Pointing Your Life Toward What Matters Most" and a former Nike executive who served as global brand director for Kobe Bryant. After over a decade at Nike, John made a cross-country move with his family to Florida, choosing intentional fatherhood over corporate climbing. He and his wife have three boys (ages 10, 8, and 5) and are passionate about helping other parents define and pursue what truly matters most. John speaks and consults on leadership, purpose, and the intersection of success and significance. It's a roller coaster of emotions in this interview, so hop on and buckle up! Trish interviews Shauna Rosenblum, Lytton Springs winemaker at Ridge Vineyards. The two met through Women in Wine Oregon when Trish needed a dynamic panelist for the organization's annual conference. She blew away the audience with her journey to winemaking and we're hoping this conversation will do the same. Shauna grew up in the vines so to speak, knowing how to test sugars at a very young age and getting very good at throwing bottles on the bottling line when she was 12. Winemaking was not what she wanted to do though, so she set her sights on art school and then became an art teacher. At that point, her parents started a new winery and Shauna came to "help out" and essentially, ended up helping Dad build the company. She faced a series of challenges a few years later, ones that made her want to quit the wine business all together. She talks about how some song lyrics from Frozen 2, nacho cheese and vodka, and perhaps a message from the universe made everything come into focus.

Bible Reading: Matthew 2:1-2; Luke 2:1-16"Visit our store and enjoy Christmas every day of the year!" Georgia read the billboard out loud as she and her family traveled home from a weeklong vacation. "Cool!" she said. "That's in the town at the next exit, isn't it? Can we stop at that store?"Dad shrugged. "Why not? We could use a break from driving. Watch for signs so we'll know where to turn."They found the store, and everyone smiled when they heard "Jingle Bells" playing over the loudspeaker as they walked in. The store was filled with all kinds of Christmas decorations--ornaments, trees, twinkling lights, and wreaths. In one corner, a woman was handing out decorated Christmas cookies. As Georgia and her parents ate their cookies, they wandered over to a large manger scene. The animals looked so real, Georgia could almost imagine she was in Bethlehem. As she thought about the events of that night long ago, she imagined Mary putting baby Jesus in a manger with all the sounds and smells of animals around them. She thought about the angels singing, the shepherds running to the stable to see Jesus, and the wise men traveling from far away to worship the new King."Come on, Georgia," said Mom, interrupting her daydreams. "Time to be on our way."Georgia continued thinking about the manger scene on the drive home. "I wish we could celebrate Christmas all year long like they do at that store," she said. "We can!" said Dad. "What is Christmas, Georgia?""It's the time when we remember Jesus being born," Georgia replied."Exactly!" said Dad. "The night God sent His Son to earth as one of us so He could save us from sin. Don't you think that's something we should celebrate all year long?""Well, sure," said Georgia. "We should thank God every day for sending Jesus, shouldn't we?" She grinned. "So can we put up the Christmas tree when we get home?"Mom laughed and shook her head. "We'll save that for December," she said. "We can remember God's gift of Jesus and the meaning of Christmas without the tree." –Linda WeddleHow About You?Are you thankful every day for God's amazing gift? He sent His Son, Jesus, to earth as a human being to take the punishment for your sin so you could have eternal life with Him. There's no better gift than that! Don't wait until December to thank God for His great gift. Jesus is the reason to celebrate Christmas all year long! Today's Key Verse:Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! The first time I was locked up, I realized that was one moment I wanted children.     The reason?    No one came to see me.    They didn't care.    But I knew if I had children, someone would've brought them to see their Dad.    When I was a kid, I had a step-dad and he did a lot of things good and some not so good, but I learned from him.    I learned the kind of Dad I would want to be for my children. The kind of dad I needed.    This episode is about the importance of Dads.    Over the years, the divorce rate has risen and back when divorce was not acceptable, couples stayed together.    A 25-year study was done and it was discovered that out of the all the people who had been married, the children who had both parents faired better in life over time.    The next most successful group were the ones that had their Dads.     But many people were not allowed to just live with their Dads.  The judges, and the system have been designed to tear children from their mothers.     Why?    Because in the absence of a father, a home becomes weaker.    The individual members become dependent on outside influences and forces.     The government.    School system.    Other parents.    If lucky, the Father's may get 2 hours a week and then every other weekend to visit their children.....   I'll share this with you........   Children need their Dads.    Stop believing a system that is not concerned with you or your family unit.    Fight to be in your children's lives.    Show them you care.     That's the way you beat a system trying to keep you separated from your children.    About the ReWire Podcast   The ReWire Podcast with Ryan Stewman – Dive into powerful insights as Ryan Stewman, the HardCore Closer, breaks down mental barriers and shares actionable steps to rewire your thoughts. Garry Kelly Safaris (or GKS) is one of the oldest safari companies in South Africa, and Garry Kelly, Cullen's Dad, is one of the original stalwart professional hunters in South Africa (he was involved in the very first Rhino hunt with Ian Player in Zululand). Robbie and Cullen connected on the banks of the Mkuze River, as Robbie and The Origins Foundation team were working on a Rhino documentary. Mkuze Falls is a private, community held conservancy, that has the big five and is a poster child for what wildlife conservation can be like in South Africa. Bret McKenzie now mainly works on movie soundtracks, the Simpsons, Minecraft and the Muppets among them, which brings the pure delight of hearing his songs sung by Lady Gaga, Benedict Cumberbatch, Miss Piggy and Tony Bennett. He talks here about his early life in Wellington (ballet teacher Mum, racehorse trainer Dad), narrative comedy, songwriting heroes and his new album Freak Out City, and unravels New Zealand's double-edged sense of humour. Along with … … how Randy Newman pitches songs for soundtracks … “the test of a good song works is if it works with just one instrument” … lyrics he loved growing up like 16 Tons by Tennessee Ernie Ford – ‘Some people say a man is made out of mud/ A poor man's made out of muscle and blood' … Morrissey's wounded reaction to his sausage-firing Quilloughby on the Simpsons ‘Panic On The Streets Of Springfield' ... solving the “fun puzzles” of a song brief and writing for “donkeys who have a dream” … the ingenious humour of John Prine, Harry Nilsson and Leonard Cohen … the moment in his live shows where he asks the audience for a story and creates a song around it – “one woman suggested ‘falling out of love' with her husband standing right beside her” ... playing the local girls schools aged 15 as the drummer in a James Brown funk band … reworking rejected songs – “which was hard with one from Paddington with its multiple rhymes for marmalade and Peru” … Flight Of The Conchords lampooning the acts they loved (Bowie, Pet Shop Boys) and playing the O2 – “pretending to be a stadium band and the audience pretending to be a stadium audience” … live on-stage application of the John Lennon “pomegranate” lyric-solving technique … “Play like a used car salesman! I need a Steely Dan solo here!” Recording with LA session legends like Leland Sklar. Eric Nielsen joins Patrick to discuss Family and Community on the feast of saints Martha, Mary, and Lazarus (3:57) what do we know about Martha, Mary and Lazarus? how does our confidence with Christ help us be vulnerable with other people? (16:18) Karen - I grew up and our family had a family business. All the community knew our business. I was known as 'the daughter' of this family business. Dad was charitable. He donated clocks to our church. Always very giving. We grew up very Catholic and very giving. I'm now a caregiver for my brother. (20:16) Break 1 Arlene - God gave me a friend for 50 years. From the time of first grade until they died. Important to have a good friend. Gone since 2001. She was always there for me an d I was always there for her. (28:24) Sebastian - How do I discern about what to do with difficult family members? We currently live with my sister and brother in law. We live different life styles. As our family grew, they say they just worry about our health and well-being. They seem to run an accounting system to our defects. How do I be Christ-like? (38:27) Break 2 Email about caring for family, is it a responsibility or an option? (43:06) Elizabeth - in my youth, very outgoing, now as I get older, I find myself not wanting to socialize. Can you offer some insights? What are some advantages and pitfalls in communicating in a digital age?

Bible Reading: Psalm 56:3-4, 8-11Nico grinned as his sister lay back on her inflatable raft. "I'm going to pop your float," he told her. "You'll sink."Maya smiled, unfazed. "My life jacket will hold me up.""What if I take the life jacket?" Nico asked.Maya shrugged. "It still won't matter. This is the shallow end, and the water only reaches up to my waist.""Well then, maybe I'll just pick you up and dunk you under," said Nico.Maya grinned and pointed to Mom sitting at the side of the pool. "With Mom there, I'll be just fine."A while later, Mom's phone rang. "Time to go inside, kids," she said after she hung up. "I need to go pick Dad up from work. He just called to say he feels really sick, so I'm going to take him to the emergency room."Maya and Nico gave each other worried looks. "Okay, Mom," Nico said.Mom was gone quite a while, and when she returned home, Dad wasn't with her. "What's wrong with Dad?" asked Maya anxiously."We don't know for sure yet, but they admitted him as a patient at the hospital," replied Mom. "Hopefully it's nothing serious."Nico felt nervous too. "What if it is really serious?" he asked. "Aren't you scared, Mom?""Of course I am," said Mom. "But I'm thankful to know that God is in control and no matter what happens, Dad--and each of us--will be okay because we're in God's hands. We'll pray for Dad, and we need to trust God to take care of him.""But what if something's really wrong with Dad?" asked Nico. "How could that ever be okay?" "Earlier today I heard you teasing your sister in the pool," Mom told him. "But Maya knew that no matter what you did, she'd be okay because I was there and would take care of her. Well, we can have absolute confidence that no matter what happens, we'll be okay because Jesus died and rose again to save us and give us eternal life. He will always be with us and take care of us--even if the worst were to happen. We're safe in His hands." –Nance E. KeyesHow About You?Has something happened that makes you feel sad or scared? As Montana Knife Company's Founder and Owner, Josh Smith is the Master Bladesmith behind creating and designing working knives for working people that are built to last for generations. Josh grew up in Lincoln, Montana on the edge of the Bob Marshall Wilderness. At the age of 11 Josh's baseball coach, Rick Dunkerley, began teaching him how to make knives. In the very beginning, Josh would go to Rick's shop where he learned to remove stock blades under the guidance of Rick. About a year later, Josh began putting a shop together at his home. Josh's Dad gave him room to work in his equipment shop, and at the age of 12 Josh joined the American Bladesmith Society. Over the next few years Josh began forging and honing his craft. Josh turned 14 at the Eugene Oregon knife show where he met other incredible knife makers, all too willing to share their talents and knowledge with Josh. At 15 years old, Josh passed the Journeyman Bladesmith test in Atlanta, Georgia at the Blade Show. Josh became the youngest bladesmith to ever pass this test. The Journeyman test is a two-part process. A test blade must be forged and heat treated with the capabilities to chop a 1” rope in half, 2- 2x4's in half and then still shave hair. Once the cutting tests are done the blade must be able to bend 90 degrees in a vise without breaking. After passing the performance test the maker must present 5 knives to a panel of Mastersmith Judges. Each knife is examined closely to ensure the knife is made to the highest standard of craftsmanship. At the Journeyman level a maker is not expected to show perfection but is expected to show a sufficient level of craftsmanship expected from a professional bladesmith.
