Bible Reading: Titus 2:7-8, 11-14As Jesse and his dad walked through the mall, Jesse talked about how he and some kids from church had collected cans from people around the neighborhood for a fundraising project. "When I knocked on Mr. Martin's door, he wouldn't give me any cans to take back to church. He said he didn't even believe I was a Christian!""I'm sorry to hear that," said Dad. "That was an unkind thing for him to say. Have you said or done anything that would make him feel that way?""I don't think so," Jesse answered. But then he remembered something. Maybe Mr. Martin knows I'm the one who knocked a ball through his window, he thought. I was going to tell him, but the other guys said I shouldn't. They said he'd never know who did it. "Nothing much, anyway," Jesse added when he noticed Dad frowning at him.Just then they arrived at a sporting goods store. Jesse pointed to a football displayed in the window. "Look! There's the ball I want. Can we go in and see how much it costs?" "How do you know they sell that kind of football here?" Dad asked.Jesse gave his dad a questioning look. "How do I know? It's in the window! Everybody knows the stuff you see in the window is sold in the store." Dad nodded. "It makes sense that what we see out here is what we believe we'll find inside. That's how it is with people too. What they see in our actions is what they believe we're like inside. So for someone to believe we're Christian, they need to believe we belong to Christ--that's where the word Christian comes from. They need to see the love He has put in our hearts flow out through our actions. And when we fail to show His love and do something hurtful, we need to admit our mistake and try to make things right." Dad headed for the store's entrance. "Well, let's go inside and see if you can afford that ball."Jesse hesitated. "Dad, wait!" he said. Then he told him about the broken window. "I'm not going to buy a football now," Jesse said. "I need to use my money to pay Mr. Martin for that window." –Mary Rose PearsonHow About You?Do your actions show people that you belong to Jesus? Are the things you've said and done today things that show the love that Jesus has put in your heart? What you display on the outside should show what's on the inside--that Jesus is in your life. Show people that you belong to Jesus by treating others the way He would.Today's Key Verse:[Jesus] gave his life to free us from every kind of sin…and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds. (NLT) (Titus 2:14)Today's Key Thought:Let Jesus be seen in you
This conversation with Dennis Morolda on Building Men hit differently. We went deep into what it means to become a man when life forces you to grow up fast. How losing my dad at 16 changed everything. And why the moment my uncle caught me running from the house became one of the most defining moments of my life. When Dad got leukemia everything changed. The day after he passed Mom came home. Went straight to my brother and sister. I knew. Bolted out the door. I felt completely alone. The one person who really understood me was gone. Didn't even know my Uncle Arden was there. He caught me in a bear hug as I was running. Said Rick you're the man of the house now. I asked why. He said I don't know. Those two words changed my life. I don't know. Not some made up answer. Not because I told you so. Just the honest truth that sometimes there are no answers. That validation in the moment of my confusion. Plus knowing I wasn't alone. He saw me. He understood me. He'd be there. Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 13:9-13; 2 Corinthians 12:7-10"We had so much fun!" Summer said when she got home after spending the afternoon at the beach with a friend. She plopped down in a chair and looked around the room. "Why is it so dark in here?" she wanted to know. Her brother laughed. "Because you're still wearing your sunglasses," he told her. Summer laughed too and removed the glasses.Dad smiled. "I just thought of something, Summer." He reached for a Bible and opened it. "Put those glasses back on and come here a minute. I'd like you to read a verse for me." Dad pointed to the verse he wanted her to read. Summer looked at the Bible. "You mean with my glasses on?" she asked, and Dad nodded. Summer held the Bible a little closer. The print wasn't very clear, but she managed to read it. "For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known." Summer stopped reading and grinned at her dad. "Seeing through dark glass describes me--it's like me reading through sunglasses.""It describes all of us," said Dad. "For example, it can be hard for us to see why certain things happen in our lives. When your cousin Payson died last year, we were very upset--and even angry--weren't we?" A sad look crossed Summer's face, and she nodded her head. "We all had questions," said Dad. "We wanted to know why it happened, right?" Again, Summer nodded. She still wondered. "In this life, we see the things that happen as if we were wearing dark glasses," Dad continued. "Many things are unclear, and we wonder why God allows them to happen. But when we see Jesus face-to-face, we won't have questions like that anymore. We'll truly understand that His will is perfect and everything happens according to His plan. For now, we just need to remember that Jesus knows our pain because He suffered and died to save us and trust Him to work everything out for good."Summer took her sunglasses off and looked at them. "I don't understand why God let Payson die, but I'm glad Jesus knows how we feel and is helping us through it." –Richard S. MaffeoHow About You?Do you find it hard to trust God when you can't see how things are going to end or why certain things happen? Jesus knows how you feel, and He promises to help you through any situation you face. You can trust Him to be with you and work everything out for good, even when you don't understand. Today's Key Verse:For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face. (KJV) (1 Corinthians 13:12)Today's Key Thought:Trust Jesus in hard times

As we step into a new school year, many of us are in a season of transition. Sending little ones off to kindergarten, big kids off to high school, and young adults off to college means a time filled with backpacks, checklists, early bedtimes and busy mornings. It also means waving goodbye not just to the kids as they leave the house, but chapters of life that will never return. Last summer around this time, I was struggling mightily. In the span of about a week, a dear friend passed away, my father's health declined significantly, and we packed up my oldest son, Jack, to head off to college out of state. Everything around me felt chaotic and unmoored. A chapter I had loved living was ending and a new one was beginning. The sadness lingered long after leaving my friend's wake, visiting Dad at the hospital or driving away from the dorm where Jack now lived. This year as we grieve the loss of my dad and prepare to send Jack back to college, two more boys into high school, and my daughter Grace into her final year of middle school, I'm trying something different to help me cope: I'm reframing the goodbye. Let me explain.

Some years ago, someone sent me this story, which illustrates this truth—God won't let you go. Let me tell you it. On a hot summer day in Florida, a little boy decided to go for a swim in the old swimming hole behind his house. He jumped into the water, not realizing that as he swam toward the middle of the lake, an alligator was swimming toward the shore. His father working in the yard saw what was happening, and in utter fear, he ran toward the water, yelling to his son. The little boy became alarmed and made a U-turn to swim to his father. It was too late. From the dock, the father grabbed his little boy by the arms just as the alligator snatched his legs. That began an incredible tug-of-war between the two. The alligator was much stronger than the father, but the father would not let go. A farmer happened to drive by, heard the screams, raced from his truck, took aim and shot the alligator. Remarkably, after weeks in the hospital, the little boy survived. His legs were extremely scared by the vicious attack of the animal. And on his arms were deep scratches where his father's fingernails dug into his flesh in his effort to hang on to the son he loved. The newspaper reporter who interviewed the boy after the trauma asked if he would show him his scars. The boy lifted his pant legs. And then, with obvious pride, he said, "But look at my arms. I have great scars on my arms, too, because my Dad wouldn't let go." You and I can identify with that little boy. We have scars, too. No, not from an alligator, but the scars of a painful past and present crises we may be facing. Some of those scars are unsightly and have caused deep pain or regret. But some wounds are because God has refused to let go. Amid our struggle, he's been there holding on to us. God just won't let you go, no matter what you're going through. Think of Joseph. Through, no doubt, some childish bragging to his brothers, they decided to get rid of him, and sold him into slavery in Egypt. Joseph had done no great evil; he didn't deserve to be so terribly mistreated, but there he was, a slave and a prisoner in Egypt (Genesis 37-50). But God never let go of Joseph, because Joseph never forsook his faith in Jehovah God. And he was used by God to deliver many people, including his own family, from starvation. I wonder how many times, as he sat in that prison, he just wanted to give up. It looked hopeless, but God didn't let go. We have many wonderful illustrations in the Bible of how God didn't let go, even when his people foolishly waded into dangerous and sinful situations, sometimes out of ignorance, sometimes out of disobedience. Think of Elijah. You remember the story found in 1 Kings 18, where Elijah challenged all the prophets of Baal, with great courage, and their pagan gods could not deliver them. Elijah triumphed over all that evil, proving that Jehovah God was the only true God. It was an incredible victory. But the very next day, brave Elijah became a coward, fearful of one woman, Jezebel, who had threatened to kill him. He ran out of fear for his life. Elijah no doubt would have been diagnosed by doctors today as having a deep depression, even as being deluded, as he ran for his life. But God didn't let go, and with great patience and kindness, he nurtured him back to strength, taught him some wonderful lessons, and brought him out of that deep funk an even better man of God—refined like gold. Are you there? Has your faith failed you? Are you full of fear? Are you in that kind of deep depression where everything looks hopeless? Maybe you feel worthless, and you're sure that life is coming to an end—at least life with any meaning? The world around you is a mess, and that could cause you to be frightened and depressed. But I want to encourage you today to know God won't let go of you. He will patiently guide you back to wholeness, as he did with Elijah. How did Elijah recover? He needed some rest and nourishment.

In this episode, James Guttman explores how his nonverbal son with autism, Lucas, redefined the very idea of perfection. It's not about milestones, math scores, or sports trophies. It's about honesty, love, and authenticity.Lucas doesn't hide his intentions. He doesn't play emotional games. And while life with severe autism comes with real challenges, James shares how those challenges are matched by something even more powerful: a son who is, in every meaningful way, perfect. If you've ever felt like the world's definition of “normal” doesn't fit your life, this is the episode for you.Watch The Video From This Show: https://youtu.be/CxM41UtGOMsIt's Here! Goutham Rao grew up in Brooklyn, a nerd all his life. Back in the day, his Dad bought him a Commodore 64, from which he started to learn to write code in BASIC. Eventually, he attended the University of Pennsylvania to get his Masters in Computer Science. Outside of tech, he is married with 2 kids. He likes to travel, and likes to run. He used to compete in half marathons, but nowadays, he does his running as more of a mental exercise.Goutham saw that IT telemetry logs have a lot of complexity within their data. Fast forward to today, he and his co-founders noticed the way that LLMs were processing data. They thought they could build something to interpret this data, and "clone" themselves to create something that mimics issue triage. This is the creation story of Neubird.SponsorsPaddle.comSema SoftwarePropelAuthPostmanMeilisearchMailtrap.TECH Domains (https://get.tech/codestory)Linkshttps://neubird.ai/https://www.linkedin.com/in/gouthamrao/Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/code-story-insights-from-startup-tech-leaders/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

✅ Why your emotional health is the greatest gift to your kids ✅ How to parent non-reactively when hormones and emotions run high ✅ The "backpack" you're handing your children (and how to lighten it) ✅ Simple calendar strategies that reveal what you truly value Full Show Notes Fall 2025 DadAwesome Accelerator SUMMARY Parenting doesn't have to be about survival mode. In this episode, Glenn Packiam shares how intentional rhythms and a focus on resilience can transform your family life. From learning to be non-reactive when hormones hit to using your calendar as a tool for what you truly value, Glenn offers practical wisdom for dads navigating everything from toddlers to young adults getting married. Plus, discover why the healthiest gift you can give your kids might be your own emotional well-being. Key Takeaways: You're going to hand your kids a "backpack" whether you like it or not—the goal is to make it as light as possible by dealing with your own emotional health first. Non-reactive parenting starts with slowing your breath and asking "what else is going on here?" instead of jumping to conclusions. Resilience isn't about avoiding hard emotions—it's about how quickly you recover and what you learn from difficult seasons. Your calendar reveals your true values; intentional rhythms like family dinners and Sabbath don't happen by accident. One of the greatest gifts you can give your children is your own repentance when you mess up. GUEST: Glenn Packiam is the author of The Intentional Year and several other books focused on spiritual formation and resilience. He's a pastor, speaker, and father of four children ranging from teenagers to young adults. Glenn lives in Southern California with his wife Holly, and his oldest daughter recently got engaged. He's passionate about helping parents move from survival mode to intentional, rhythmic family life that builds resilience in both parents and children. (00:00) Happy hump day! Do you share amazon accounts with everyone in your family? Hardy isn’t a fan of sharing the account with his wife. Fred is doing community service?! Hardy is such a great son that he hid the wood glue from his Dad. What's your favorite thing to put on TV while you're trying to fall asleep? (18:39) WHAT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT: Red Sox lost their second game of their two game series to the Orioles 4-3 in 11 innings. The Sox had the bases loaded in the eighth, ninth and 10th innings then finished 0 for 13 with runners in scoring position, and left 13 men on base. This is their seventh loss in the past 10 games. As preseason for the NFL is coming to an end things are heating up as teams are naming their starting QB’s, including the Colts naming Daniel Jones their starting QB over Anthony Richardson.

It's the showdown every family knows too well: Mom vs. Dad. This week on Sheena Interrupted, we're diving into the parenting trenches. Sheena's got the checklists, the snacks, the sunscreen (yes, every inch). TRID? His strategy begins and ends with: “They'll be fine.” From bedtime battles to snack negotiations, it's living proof that raising kids with your opposite is equal parts comedy and chaos. Spoiler alert: the kids are smarter than both of us (and they know exactly how to play the game). Stay for the laughs, the roasts, and what might accidentally double as marriage counseling (for us, not you).

What's worse, a Christianity exceedingly well aware of the devil... or a Christianity totally unaware of it? What's worse, the devil you know or the devil you don't? Did the devil make you do it? or did God in disguise? In this episode Dad and I undertake a historical survey of Christian understandings of the devil, where it's gone wrong, and (if such a thing is possible) how to speak of the devil aright.
