Here is a recipe they shared from the “Katherine Wants: The Ultimate Date Night Cookbook” for the ultimate Sea ScallopsSEARED SEA SCALLOPS with CELERIAC PUREE and CRISPY GUANCIALE 2 SERVINGS • PREP TIME: 10 MINUTES • COOK TIME: 12 MINUTESIngredientsCELERIAC PUREE (MAKES 2 CUPS)1 small (8- to 12-ounce) celeriac (aka celery root), peeled and diced1 apple, peeled and diced2 cups milk1 clove garlic, halved2 tablespoons unsalted butter 1 teaspoon kosher saltScallops3 ounces guanciale or pancetta, cut into matchsticks (about 1 cup)6 dry-packed sea scallops (U10/20 size), “feet” removed1 teaspoon kosher salt1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil 1 tablespoon pine nuts, toasted⅛ teaspoon ground black pepperInstructions1. Make the celeriac puree: Put all the ingredients in a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a gentle simmer, then cover and continue to simmer for about 10 minutes. When the celeriac is tender, transfer the contents of the pan to a blender and puree until smooth. Adjust the seasoning if needed.2. Place the guanciale in a small frying pan along with a splash of water. Over medium heat, render the fat as the water evaporates. Continue cooking until the desired crispness, then remove with a slotted spoon and set aside.3. Preheat a 12-inch cast-iron frying pan over medium heat.4. Meanwhile, dry off the scallops on some paper towels and season with the salt.5. When the pan is very hot, pour in the olive oil. You'll know the oil is hot enough if it smokes a little. Gently place the scallops in the hot oil and do not touch until a crust appears on the bottom edge, 2 to 3 minutes. Give a flip and repeat. Remove to a plate and let rest for 2 minutes.6. To serve, spoon ¼ cup of the celeriac puree into a small pasta bowl and top with three scallops and half of the crispy guanciale. Garnish with half of the toasted pine nuts and pepper. Repeat to make a second serving.Note:To get a proper sear on your scallops, make sure you dry them very well with a paper towel and have your pan good and hot.

Always have. It started for me as a journalist, when I broke local stories that became national headlines. Then as the head of public affairs for an emergency medical services organization where a bystander CPR program we created legitimately helped save lives and went on to win national and international awards for public service and community relations. Today I'm the co-founder of Millennia TEA - a company I created with my husband after a health scare helped us understand first hand the powerful impact the tea plant can have on promoting wellness and preventing/reversing illness. A deep dive into tea taught us those incredible health properties are highest when the tea leaves are "fresh-picked" vs. dried & cooked like conventional dried teas. So we went looking for someone who could sell us "Fresh Tea," as you would when the science says it is multiples better than the dried stuff. But no one could - and that wasn't ok for our family - so we created a new category of tea: Frozen Edible TEA. Farmer direct, organic, hand-picked in the mountains in central Sri Lanka tea leaves - picked at their prime and washed and flash-frozen within hours. It's a big job, asking consumers to imagine the most consumed beverage in the world after water in a way they've never considered before (i.e. Fresh-frozen vs. dried).. but the science is compelling - that sharing the mighty tea plant in its purest and most naturally-powerful format has the potential to positively impact peoples' health in ways they can see and FEEL. That's the work I want to do and represents the positive impact we want to have in the world. I'm passionate about functional nutrition and the actions we can take - individually and collectively - to help people Live Better Longer in a way that is sustainable and benefits everyone along the supply chain. I'd love to connect with you here, or at tracy.bell@millenniatea.com or 1-506-866-0049. About UsDr. Sylvain Charlebois is a Professor in food distribution and policy in the Faculties of Management and Agriculture at Dalhousie University in Halifax. 1-7-2023 Passed Ball Show. In this brief episode, John takes a shot at star NBA guard Trae Young, declaring he might be what is holding the Atlanta Hawks back. John defends Hawks coach Nate McMillan and doubles down, claiming that Young will NEVER win a NBA Championship, comparing him (different players) to Russell Westbrook by stating he does make his team better. Instead, both are big on padding stats, Russ being Mr. Triple Double and Trae padding his scoring line. Next, John declares that Trevor Bauer will pitch for a MLB team THIS season and the fans for said team will still show up and root for the team he plays for. John believes that fans threaten to boycott their teams all the time but never follow through. Some might, but not enough to get a team to change their mind. Finally, John states the seriousness of cardiac infractions, and that there are 1,000 cases of cardiac arrest every day, over 90% of them fatal. John stands up for everybody that were not the sheep when it came to the Damar Hamlin moment of last Monday night. John states that you can BOTH care deeply about the young man, pray for his health, support him, and be compassionate AND question whether the NFL was right for cancelling the game and shutting the league down. John cites the fact that this decision was unprecedented and may have been done to appease a radical crowd- one of whom may be trying to silence free speech. John brings up Chuck Hughes, who died on the field for the Detroit Lions on October 24, 1971 in a game that was completed in its entirety. John then names six players who became paralyzed during a game that was then completed in its entirety.

EPISODE 105: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:45) SPECIAL COMMENT: The Taliban Caucus lights the Republican Party and the House of Representatives on fire, while on his first day, the New Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries perfectly whips his members to do literally do nothing more than bring their popcorn and watch everybody from Gaetz to McCarthy burn, baby, burn. It was a beautiful thing, and it left the full range of fascists from Tucker Carlson to Rep. Byron Donalds having to cobble together the nonsensical sophistry that their self-defenestration was actually democracy in action. If Jeffries can manage to keep the Democrats from reverting to their natural desire to do ill-timed good on behalf of the institution rather than let the Republicans shoot themselves again today, he will have won the 118th Congress no matter which Liz Truss the GOP eventually settles on in place of the wounded McCarthy. B-Block (15:15) SPECIAL COMMENT No. 2: There is the tragedy of Damar Hamlin of the Buffalo Bills, and then there is the disgusting reality that the National Football League is now trying to gaslight us. OF COURSE the league intended to resume Monday night's game even after the stricken player fell. And now the NFL has lied about it and sleazily blamed Joe Buck, Suzy Kolber and all of ESPN, to cover up its own insensitivity and callousness. This is, of course, the history of the NFL, which did the wrong thing after JFK was assassinated, and after Mayor George Moscone and Councilman Harvey Milk were assassinated hours before a Monday Night Football game in San Francisco, and after it was told flights could not be guaranteed to get its players and media to games the weekend after 9/11. But this lie makes the Hamlin nightmare even worse - as does the rank exploitation of it by the anti-vaccine conspiracy theorists, who spit on the memories of Chuck Hughes and J.V. Cain and Hank Gathers and so many athletes who died on the field, from cardiac distress. (30:54) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Trump and Michael Flynn are no match for Congressman-Elect George Santos. C-Block (36:09) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: In 1973, Charles Crawford was interviewing me for his TV news story from one of the earliest baseball card shows. In 1983, he was sitting next to me on the anchor desk at CNN. He introduced himself and I said "we've met before." The Brian D. O'Leary Show January 3, 2023 BrianDOLeary.com   Fountain.FM Support us with Bitcoin/Satoshis over at Fountain.FM   For the best and most complete show notes, go to our Substack page. https://briandoleary.substack.com/   Update (moments before I hit publish): Horribly sad, if true. “There is a lot of speculation on the Internet about whether or not Damar Hamlin will recover from his injury. I am very sad to report that this is unlikely. While I very much hope that I am wrong about this, the evidence that is known is not favorable.” https://stevekirsch.substack.com/p/the-most-likely-scenario-is-that I link to another Steve Kirsch article later…   What happened last night on Monday Night Football? In broad strokes, we know what happened: a young ballplayer, Damar Hamlin, went into cardiac arrest during the course of play. But the reaction to this terrible event has been all over the board with virtue-signaling from all sides without a concern for the truth. There has been no legitimate reporting on the event from the news or sports media. Anything we're finding out is because of independent media. I am not sure what all of this means, but I have some thoughts… In this podcast, I analyze last night's events and it only runs about 30 minutes. But if you want to get a bird's eye view of what I'm talking about, the rest of these show notes should suffice. The talking heads on ESPN were stuck with talking about an event that nobody can really prepare for. Instead of rising to the occasion, the hours of coverage—until they strangely cut to an axe-throwing competition after the Bills-Bengals game was ultimately postponed for the night—were full of fluff and talking for talk's sake. We learned very little about what happened to Damar Hamlin other than he received CPR and went to the hospital and remained in stable but critical condition. Here's the play: https://youtu.be/r1Z9Vd53yhI The folks on ESPN emoted and talked. We learned nothing other than certain people lack composure on air when push comes to shove. Ironically, an article that came my way earlier today praised the efforts of the entire ESPN team and its coverage, going so far as to call it a “masterclass” and that “we'll be teaching their coverage of Monday night's story in journalism school for decades.” This is from a supposedly credible writer. He went on. “There was no speculation. No rumors. No reporting of what was being speculated on Twitter. Just honest conversations, straight reporting, real human emotion.” In case you'd like to know more about these factual but feckless statements, I analyze the situation in more detail on the podcast. One thing we didn't mention was Skip Bayless's reaction to all of this. In the first place, Skip is a world class jerk and he doesn't help himself when he tries to Tweet or talk himself out of the various predicaments he caused by his own words. Jason Whitlock Tweeted what are essentially my sentiments about Bayless in this situation: “It's all so phony. All of it. The outrage toward Skip and this reaction by Skip. It's all performance. Sad and embarrassing.” https://twitter.com/WhitlockJason/status/1610288252925222912?s=20&t=_GviJG4RxbG_dDpW8c832Q The problem in all this coverage is that nobody was even the least bit willing to put on the mere façade of being a journalist. As I saw it from the beginning, ESPN was in no position to find out the truth in what happened on Monday night. The network often acts like it has hard-hitting journalists, but many of them have proven to be total frauds. Some may do good work, but as a whole the sports journalism angle from ESPN is a joke. Look no further than the epic With the Benefit of Hindsight podcast by John Ziegler & Liz Habib. In the Penn State case and now in this recent episode, ESPN has a vested interest for the truth to NOT emerge! Sure, the Expert Class™ learned very quickly last night what “Commotio Cordis” might be. Essentially, it is freak timing from a blow to the area of the heart at an exact or precise beat that would cause cardiac arrest. It happens and probably most often in youth baseball of all things. Was Hamlin's injury a result of this? Unlikely, but not impossible or implausible. Could it have been a result of vaccine injury? Quite possible, but not a soul on television was willing to even bring it up. As I Tweeted last evening: “Moral hazard for ESPN if either likely scenarios are true. They'll never admit that football is a gladiatorial pursuit w/ obvious known risks that most players, coaches, fans & media choose to ignore. If he “shook a clot,” there's no way they could square the circle on that one” https://twitter.com/BrianDOLeary/status/1610127880851460099?s=20&t=_GviJG4RxbG_dDpW8c832Q A Substack to which I subscribe, written by Steve Kirsch was on top of this whole thing early. The article speaks for itself. https://stevekirsch.substack.com/p/what-caused-damar-hamlins-injury?r=1cx4az&utm_medium=ios&utm_campaign=post As it stands, the Bills-Bengals game won't resume this week. What does that mean for the NFL season, particularly the postseason? I don't know. Nor do I particularly care. They could call the game a tie. They could declare the Bengals the victors by virtue of them being up 7-3 when play was suspended. They could flip a coin. They could also push back the start of the postseason and play the game in a “Week 19.” What is Roger Goodell and the NFL going to do? Probably none of the above. All of this portends the rapid demise of football and all professional and high-level amateur sports. Neither the sports media nor the leagues themselves take the games or the health of the players all that seriously. Serious enough to take your money. Not much more. Admittedly, I am a sucker for sports and so they've all taken a lot of money from me over the course of my life. Of course, as frauds, the typical sports media operation is sure to supply you with all the correct emotions you are supposed to feel, but there is so much money involved that nobody is willing to ask the simplest questions, let alone the hard ones.   Article with a similar point of view as me…worth reading nonetheless: Whitlock: Damar Hamlin and sport of football are in critical condition by Jason Whitlock   Chuck Hughes The 28-year old Texas native is the only player to die during the course of play in an NFL game. In 1971, Hughes was playing for the Detroit Lions against the Chicago Bears. With about a minute left in regulation and the Bears ahead 28-23, the Lions were closing in on the Bears endzone, needing a touchdown to win the game. Hughes jogged back to the huddle near the Bears 15-yard line after a Lions incompletion on the previous play and fell face first on the Tiger Stadium turf. Reports say that Hughes was dead when he hit the grass. The number 85 for the Detroit Lions is retired for Chuck Hughes. The Lions also give out an annual award to the most improved player in the name of Chuck Hughes.     College football game mentioned: 1995 Army at Boston College   College football players mentioned: Ronnie McAda It is likely I witnessed McAda's best performance of his career. The guy was phenomenal that day. I saw Michael Vick play once at Alumni Stadium and he was more electric, but McAda was the most dominating quarterback I've ever seen for one game…and it was almost entirely rushing the football.   Doug Flutie Flutie was sensational in college. 1984 Heisman Trophy winner. Unbelievable player, really.   Tweet mentioned: From Jerry Lawler @JerryLawler: “I would be willing to bet that Damar Hamlin has suffered a cardiac arrest from the blunt trauma of that blow to his chest... I know what this is like from experience...” https://twitter.com/JerryLawler/status/1610098564373389312?s=20&t=_GviJG4RxbG_dDpW8c832Q   Myth mentioned: How Teddy Roosevelt changed college football Roosevelt did have something to do with changing the game, but TR was largely a blowhard who had delusional ideas about masculinity, especially his own. Thanks to some help and legislation on behalf of presidents TR and Woodrow Wilson—who was likely the worst president in American history (certainly in the top 5)—the game did change. Do I give these monsters any credit for the joy I experienced with game I grew up watching and playing? No I do not.       Liberty Classroom If you like what you read and hear from me, you'll probably want to check out Liberty Classroom if you are at all concerned about the education you may have missed out upon. NFL – National Football League – Week 17 Last Night Buffalo Bills at Cincinnati Bengals, Suspended and Postponed Bills at Bengals, PPD – Bills’ Hamlin in critical condition after collapse on field Buffalo defensive back Damar Hamlin was in critical condition early Tuesday after the Bills say he suffered a cardiac arrest on the field following a tackle hours earlier, leading to the indefinite postponement of Buffalo's pivotal Monday night showdown against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bills said in a statement: “Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in our game versus the Bengals. His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition.”  In a chilling scene, Hamlin was administered CPR on the field, ESPN reported, while surrounded by teammates, some of them in tears, while they shielded him from public view. He was hurt while tackling Bengals receiver Tee Higgins on a seemingly routine play that didn’t appear unusually violent.  Jeff Miller, an NFL executive vice president, told reporters on a conference call early Tuesday that the league had made no plans at this time to play the game, adding that Hamlin’s health was the main focus.  Vincent said the league took no steps toward restarting the game and did not ask players to begin a five-minute warmup period as ESPN’s broadcasters had announced.  There was a heavy police presence at Buffalo Niagara International Airport when the team arrived at about 2:45 a.m. A small group of fans gathered across the street from the players’ parking area near the airport. Police blocked off the road to allow the players to leave. NFL – Detroit familiar with heart issues in sports On Oct. 24, 1971, Chuck Hughes of the Detroit Lions had a heart attack late in the fourth quarter of an NFL game against the Chicago Bears.  He was officially pronounced dead about 50 minutes after the game, with an autopsy revealing that the heart attack was caused by a massive stoppage in his left coronary artery.  Doctors later said he was essentially dead on the field — and the closest defender to him when he collapsed, Bears star Dick Butkus, immediately began waving for help when Hughes tumbled to the turf, clearly aware of the severity of the situation.  The game was delayed and the final 62 seconds were eventually played.  On Nov. 21, 2005, during the first period of a Detroit Red Wings game against Nashville, Detroit defenseman Jiri Fischer slumped over while seated on the Red Wings bench, and coach Mike Babcock began furiously waving for help.  Fischer had a seizure, fell forward and CPR was quickly administered. His heart had stopped and medical personnel could not find a pulse, Babcock said, before emergency workers shocked his heart and got it beating again.  The game was delayed, then ultimately postponed. Fischer never played again. NFL – Lions looking forward to potentially playing for playoffs The Detroit Lions will play at Green Bay Packers on Sunday in a matchup of 8-8 teams with much at stake for at least one of the NFC North teams. Detroit must win at Lambeau Field and have the good fortune of the Los Angeles Rams beating or tying Seattle on the road earlier in the day. If the Packers win, they are in the playoffs for the fourth straight year and 12th time in 15 years since Aaron Rodgers became their starting quarterback. The NFL has flexed the game to Sunday Night Football with an 8:20 kickoff. NFL – Bears’ Fields uncertain to play with rushing mark in reach Justin Fields might not get the chance to break the single-season rushing record for an NFL quarterback. Coach Matt Eberflus threw Fields' status for the Chicago Bears' season finale against Minnesota into question Monday. He says there are “ongoing conversations about everybody” with general manager Ryan Poles. Fields needs 63 yards to break the QB rushing record of 1,206 set by Baltimore's Lamar Jackson in 2019 during his MVP season. But it's not clear he will get that opportunity when the Bears host the NFC North champion Vikings on Sunday. The Bears set a franchise record by extending their skid to nine games. Grant was 12 for 17 from the field, including 5 of 8 from 3-point range, and Payton's debut buoyed a Blazers team that had lost four of five. Bojan Bogdanovic had 21 points to lead Detroit. NFL – National Football League – Week 17 Last Night Buffalo Bills at Cincinnati Bengals, Suspended and Postponed Bills at Bengals, PPD – Bills’ Hamlin in critical condition after collapse on field Buffalo defensive back Damar Hamlin was in critical condition early Tuesday after the Bills say he suffered a cardiac arrest on the field following a tackle hours earlier, leading to the indefinite postponement of Buffalo’s pivotal Monday night showdown against the Cincinnati Bengals. With the help of the chamber, as well as reaching out to the Times, Community Civility Counts was born. The movement has also made its way into the classroom, led by Summer Moore, the Times' digital and audience engagement editor. However, to accomplish civility isn't easy.
