Kristy began her journey at SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment, where she gained extensive experience in marketing, operations, and event management. Her career includes roles at ZooTampa, where she was instrumental in the rebranding from Lowry Park Zoo to its current identity. In 2020, she co-founded RumbleBuzz, a marketing agency that caters specifically to attractions and hospitality industries, ensuring that their marketing strategies align seamlessly with their operational goals. In this interview, Kristy talks about a seat at the table, rebranding, and marketing & ops supporting each other.   A Seat at the Table   "Everyone had a seat at the table, and what came out of that was really learning how to build a sub-brand."   Kristy emphasizes the importance of collaboration across departments in any successful marketing strategy. Drawing from her experiences at SeaWorld, she shares how cross-departmental teams were crucial in coordinating large events and initiatives. This approach ensured that all voices were heard and that every department, from operations to food service, contributed to a cohesive and immersive guest experience. Kristy believes that giving everyone a seat at the table not only improves communication but also leads to more innovative and effective marketing strategies.   Rebranding   "Rebranding is not just a logo change; it's about establishing yourself as a global brand."*   Kristy recounts the comprehensive rebranding of ZooTampa, explaining that the change was much more than just a new name or logo. The goal was to position the zoo as a globally recognized brand, which involved not only changing the name but also telling a deeper story about the zoo's commitment to animal care and conservation. Kristy highlights how PR, social media, and even a partnership with National Geographic's "Secrets of the Zoo" played pivotal roles in this transformation. The rebranding was a strategic move that helped Zoo Tampa reach a broader audience and establish a stronger presence in the global market.   Marketing & Ops Supporting Each Other   "When everybody had a seat at the table, the experience from the ad to the actual visit was consistent." Kristy discusses the critical relationship between marketing and operations, sharing examples of when the two worked seamlessly together, as well as instances where they didn't. She illustrates how successful campaigns, like the one for Busch Gardens' "Howl-O-Scream," were the result of close collaboration between marketing and operations. This ensured that the guest experience aligned perfectly with what was promised in the marketing materials. Kristy stresses that for a brand to truly succeed, marketing and operations must not only support each other but also work together from the very beginning to create a consistent and memorable guest experience. Learn about the new Schell Games Apprenticeship Program! – Schell Games, the largest full-service educational and entertainment game development company in the United States, today announced a partnership with Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) to create the Schell Games Apprenticeship Program (SGAP), a hybrid training curriculum that will guide aspiring gaming professionals through a three-year Associate Degree in Multimedia Programming, Simulation, and Gaming. The program, which launches in the fall of 2022, is a blend of classroom study (20 hours per week) and paid on-the-job training (20 hours) at Schell Games' Station Square office, including professional training and development company-specific onboarding, and curriculum and project work. Schell Games will pay the full tuition of the apprentices, two of whom will make up the program's inaugural class. The company will also provide public transit or parking passes to cover students' commutes.  “Game development companies today need to be as innovative in our recruitment and development of talent as we do in our games and applications,” said Schell Games CEO Jesse Schell. “This partnership with CCAC is the first degree-granting apprenticeship program in the games industry. It represents a grassroots effort for the greater Pittsburgh community but also a first step in the creation of a broader, deeper talent pipeline inclusive of students who can't or choose not to attend four-year universities.” Once reserved primarily for trade industries, apprenticeships are becoming more strategically important in sectors such as technology and games. A recent McKinsey & Company study stated that half of all work activities could become automated as soon as 2035, potentially creating a global shortage of skilled workers. Apprenticeship programs address these issues by closing skill gaps or reskilling those uprooted by automation.  In the SGAP, participants will work side-by-side with game developers on actual projects to gain real-world experience in the games industry. They will have the opportunity to mentor under every discipline, which includes engineering, design, art, and production. At the end of their apprenticeship, they will have the skills and knowledge to confidently enter the games industry workforce. “The only way to keep up with the pace of automation and close the skills gap is for public education and private companies to come together in new ways,” said Rebecca Dupont, Department Head of Computer Information Technologies, North Campus and West Hills Center for CCAC. “We hope that this initiative with Schell Games is a template for business and academia alike.” CCAC students interested in applying for the SGAP can do so through the school's website. The application includes a 300-word essay indicating their desire and outlining their strengths and what they hope to gain from the program. A selection committee will interview finalists chosen from the application pool and select the final candidates no later than July 2022. # # # ABOUT SCHELL GAMES Schell Games is the largest full-service educational and entertainment game development company in the United States. This multi-launch coaster from Premier Rides is the new centerpiece of an area previously headlined by Wild Arctic. With a height requirement of less than 54" - it gives SeaWorld Orlando it's first "tweener" roller coaster, slightly more intense than Super Grover's Box Car Derby, but not quite the level of high-octane intensity of the park's "Big Three" of Kraken, Mako, and Manta. You will want to listen as Joel gives us great advice on how to balance success in the workplace with success at home! Highlights from this episode One of the keys to finding a work/life balance. [4:00] Three key pieces of advice Joel loves to share on podcasts. [11:38] The 7 words that define love, the verb. [13:16] How you can get Joel’s three-part series on how to lead through crisis. [16:42] Be the role you are in While with Herschend, Joel still traveled quite a bit but was managing to keep it within reason. Being happy with his work helped with his family life as well. He said that while he felt he had a good balance at the time, he was still always “on” for work. What this experience ultimately taught him was to BE the role you are in, in that particular moment. To enjoy the moment you’re in because, in a flash, those moments are gone. In those moments, you are building and depositing into your relationships. When that five o’clock whistle blows, you really are investing in your family and kids.  “There is always an excuse, but be the role you are in — physically — in the moment.” - Joel Manby Hitting rock bottom and learning from there SeaWorld recruited Joel after thirteen years at Herschend. Being the CEO of a publicly-held company had always been on his bucket list. SeaWorld was going through a period of negative publicity due to the Blackfish movie coming out earlier that year. He took the position with them to help turn this negative image around. Within ninety days, he had a ten-point plan and things took off! Some board dynamics changed about halfway through this process and Joel says this is when things started falling apart. He said this is the point the situation became untenable. Joel was under a lot of stress to perform during this time. He was working long days. He was not maintaining his relationships at home nor taking care of himself. He ended up divorcing in 2017 and resigning from SeaWorld the next year. Joel said that for him to lose the identity of his job and his 31-year marriage was definitely the worst part of his life. It was a wake-up call for him to realize he had not “put the love in the right order.” He said he went through a lot of darkness, but there is a happy ending — listen in to learn how he turned it all around! Where the magic is Many companies define their values but what they don’t do very often is define the processes behind them. You have to measure things — they have to be reviewed just like financial statements. People have to be incentivized. Joel says those process points — defining, reinforcing, promoting those values — are where the magic is. That is what he likes to help others do. Love Works challenges you to think differently. The word “love” is often misunderstood in the context of business, When you describe it as “love, the verb” and apply the ideas of patience and kindness, plus the other five principles of the book, you begin seeing results. Joel’s book is a great inspiration for leaders to take these principles into the workplace. Listen to the episode to hear all seven principles and learn where to buy Joel’s book! Joel has been the CEO of Saab Automobile USA, Amazon Auto Sales, Herschend Enterprises, the largest family-owned theme park and entertainment company in the United States and SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment, a $1.4 billion entertainment company with well-known brands such as SeaWorld Parks, Busch Gardens Parks and Discovery Cove. Currently, Joel is the non-executive Chairman of Orange, a non-profit organization dedicated to the development and distribution of student, youth, and next-generation curriculum to over 9,000 churches in 40+ countries. In this episode, Joel and I discuss his book LOVE WORKS and how he came about writing it based on his tenure as a CEO and the lessons learned. We talk about how love is not necessarily being a soft leader and how we as leaders also need to be tough, firm, and decisive. We discuss how kindness and truthfulness are extremely important when leading. We talk about conflict vs confront and how they are not the same. We must confront but we also must try to limit conflict. Disagreement with leaders and staff is not conflict. We discussed how leaders should lead through a crisis and listen to understand. Joel also talks about how his devotion to being a CEO of a major corporation lead to a major storm that affected his personal life. Joel is very vulnerable about his mistakes and how he got through the storm. In this episode of the L3 Leadership Podcast, you’ll hear Joel Manby talk about how to integrate love into your leadership. 4 Key Leadership Insights:1. What did I do to “get out of the pile” or get noticed as a younger leader? Certainly, the following characteristics helped: skillset, intuition, the anticipation of the next steps, but more than anything… work ethic. “I may have not been the smartest, I was the most hard-working”. “I did the very best job that I could in everything that I did.”2. What does loving people in an organization look like? There has to be processes and systems put in place to hold up your organizational values. These are systems that reward and correct according to your values and desired culture. Leading with love is not a soft thing or just a “Christian” thing. Leading with tough love is often the case. Leading with tough love means holding people accountable and having difficult conversations in order to uphold your company’s vision and values. 3. A rule of loving leadership: Praise in public, admonish in private. A simple cadence that I’ve followed when offering this tough love is: Praise them for their strengths, admonish them specifically and briefly, and put them right back on the horse. 4. Your guests will never rise above the enthusiasm and interest of your employees.About Joel Manby:Joel has been the CEO of major corporations for over 25+ years leading organizations such SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment, Herschend Enterprises (the largest family-owned theme park and entertainment company in the United States), Saab Automobile USA, and Amazon’s car selling partner, which was sold to CarsDirect.com in 2001. We live in the age of entertainment at our fingertips. Interactive games, exciting videos, and groundbreaking stories are only a click away. So how are theme parks staying competitive as an entertaining pastime and leisure activity, and how is AV playing into this immersive experience economy? Giving their perspectives are Erik Baeumlisberger, corporate manager of guest experience technology at SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment, and Mike Wallace, creative director at Falcon's Creative Group. Both were part of a panel session, presented by Blooloop, at InfoComm 2019 titled "Trends in Theme Park Attraction Experiences." A big takeaway from their presentation and from the podcast is that theme park designers are having to create rides and experience that are personalized and repeatable, and they're turning to tangential industries to draw inspiration. One of those, and the one that piqued our interest the most, was video games. "The video game industry has outpaced the film industry for a few years now," Baeumlisberger said. "It's realtime decision-making that affects your environment and your journey, and if we try to apply those lessons to a dark ride or to a physical environment in a them park, that's when we start to get into this frontier of untapped potential" Wallace said. That realtime differentiation creates an intrinsic uniqueness to each person's ride and tells a new story. It has to, Wallace said. "There's no way you're going to have the same eight people make the same decision." As the world advances technologically at break-neck speed, theme parks are keeping pace by creating immersive, personalized experiences influenced and inspired by tech. So what sets them apart from Virtual Reality or Augmented Reality that people can experience at home? In an ironic twist, theme parks are differentiating themselves from modern digital entertainment by throwing it back to the original form of entertainment, too: theatre. Like video games, improvisational actors add an element of surprise and individuality that keep guests coming back for new experiences. In addition to live actors, theme park innovators are customizing the guest experience by collecting data to help curate an ongoing journey that continues to please the likes of each individual person. Experience creators like Baeumlisberger and Wallace are pushing the limits of creativity by crafting narratives that draw the guest in and make them part of a story. These theme park experiences are unique and catered to each guest, and have a built in sense of repeatability because of that personalization. Listen to these two thought leaders explain why, whether it's a roller-coaster or a haunted house, the thrill for future theme parks lies in users holding the ability to define the ride more than the designer.

Manby also wrote Love Works about HFE's unique business culture, with all proceeds going toward the Share It Forward Foundation, the company's charitable organization which aids employees in need. SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment has named Joel Manby as its new president and CEO, effective April 7. Bill Salus is the author of "Nuclear Showdown in Iran, Revealing the Ancient Prophecy of Elam," "Psalm 83: The Missing Prophecy Revealed, How Israel Becomes the Next Mideast Superpower," "Revelation Road, Hope Beyond the Horizon," and "Isralestine, The Ancient Blueprints of the Future Middle East." Bill is an expert at explaining the prophetic relevance of current Middle East and world events. His books have been featured on TBN, Daystar TV, CBN, and many other mainstream Christian TV shows and networks. Bill's freelance articles have been featured on World Net Daily, The Christian Post, popular magazines, and extensively over the World Wide Web. Readers appreciate his unique insights, and sensible, rather than sensational approach to understanding the Bible. He allows prophecy to speak for itself, rather than modernizing it into newspaper exegesis. In addition to being an author and a lecturer, Bill is also the radio host of the popular Prophecy Update Radio Program featured at KFHM 88.7 FM. Bill interviews the highly respected prophecy experts and discusses with them today's most important end time's topics. In addition to hosting his radio program Bill is frequently interviewed on other radio programs, and has appeared on television shows like Christ in Prophecy, hosted by Dr. David Reagan founder of Lamb and Lion Ministries, and Jewish Voice, hosted by Jonathan Bernis. Shortly after becoming a Christian in 1992, writing became a daily discipline for Bill. He began with devotional pieces, but soon realized that he was prophetically inclined. After the events of September 11, 2001, along with the encouragement of Dr. Arnold Fruchtenbaum the founder of Ariel Ministries, Bill embarked upon a tireless path of discerning prophecies that apply today. It has become Bill's personal challenge to demonstrate the love of God through prophecy to each reader. As he composes one page upon another, it becomes clear to the spectator that prophecy is a spectacular gift from a God who cares for the entirety of humanity. The discovery of prophecy as a gift rather than a threat is what most characterizes Bill's work. People all over the world are learning through his steadfast efforts, that prophecy is not just for the scholarly, but also for every common man, woman, and child. Whether writing, teaching, doing interviews, or speaking in front of large and diverse audiences, Bill guarantees to impart understandable information Midwatch interviews Christian authors, artists, movie producers, indie film makers, ministers and just about anyone with a story of faith. Can non-human animals be “victims” of a crime? The Oregon Supreme Court recently decided they could be. We talk with Matthew Liebman, senior attorney with the Animal Legal Defense Fund, about the law of animals. Why and how do we prohibit animal cruelty? Is it to protect our own feelings, the inherent rights of animals themselves, a little of both? Does prohibiting cruelty protect us from hurting one another? Does a housefly have a right to an education? We discuss the difficulties of being perfect, the omnipresence of trade-offs, whaling by native peoples, whether a chimpanzee can sue in habeas corpus.
