How to pass the 4 pillars of manhood to your kids Why celebrating vulnerability matters more than perfect discipline How to normalize hard conversations about sex, money, and struggle The long view: Becoming a tender-hearted grandpa starts now FULL SHOW NOTES LEARN about joining the Fall 2025 DadAwesome Accelerator Cohorts SUMMARY Some days you feel like a C-grade dad, and that's when presence matters most. In this episode, Josh Krehbiel shares how he's learning to create emotional safety for his kids, celebrate vulnerability over performance, and pursue the long view of becoming a tender-hearted grandfather. You'll hear about the four pillars of manhood, why crock-pot freedom beats microwave solutions, and how to get to the rocking chair with love on your heart. TAKEAWAYS Marking moments matter: Creating manhood ceremonies and intentional milestones leaves lasting impressions on your kids, even if the follow-up isn't perfect. Celebrate vulnerability first: When your kids fail or confess something hard, make it about their openness before addressing consequences—this builds emotional safety. Reject passivity, accept responsibility, lead courageously, and be fueled by the future: These four pillars of manhood provide a framework for raising boys and girls with character. Pursue purity as a top priority: The war for purity as a father protects your ability to show physical affection and have compassion without contamination. Freedom is crock-pot, not microwave: Breakthrough comes through long-suffering love and staying present, not by trying to manhandle change. Seaside Pod Review (A Queen Podcast)

RIGHT! Stop that! It's all too silly! We get invaded by another podcast, there's plenty of radio talk and the boys go back to their childhoods to talk about the use and abuse of Walkie Talkies! The Dad jokes are back and Randy's radio retrieval ruination really rather rattles us! Aside from all that, we manifest, we spin the wheel, and we talk about a Queen song. I mean why the hell else would you even be here if we weren't doing that??? Oh yeh and there are a couple of listener questions near the end, if that's the sort of thing you like! It's time to get the cat claws out because we're talkin' "Flick of the Wrist" from the dynamite third album, "Sheer Heart Attack".If Randy were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Let me squeeze you 'til you dried" or possibly, "wrists have been flicked"NOTE: Skip forward to 27:37 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. The music at the end of the episode is the rather brilliant Vaudevillian ditty from the Randy Woods Band, "Why Can't We Get Along" which you can find here: https://youtu.be/xFWlG-Y7zCQIf you want to get involved in the Kofi Klub, you can make a donation here: https://ko-fi.com/seasidepodreview and let us know which song you want us to add to the wheel! 396: Try these Inviting Alternatives to the Research Paper

Recently I had to learn APA citation. Oof. It was a heavy lift, after a few decades with MLA. It gave me a refreshed sense of how overwhelming students likely find MLA. I found myself thinking, why can't I just link my sources in parentheses? Why can't I just reference the authors who informed my thinking inside my sentences? Why on earth does it matter if I use a comma or a semicolon, put the page first or put the page second? Why does APA even exist? Yeah, all the things our students probably think when we roll out our 26 page MLA redux, which doesn't even cover it all. And that's only the beginning of student frustration when it comes time for a research paper. Now, I struggle a little bit in recommending these alternatives to the research paper today, partly because my husband regularly references the research paper he wrote in high school as a landmark in his academic life. He loved it. He was so proud of his work. It set him on a path that eventually led all the way to a PHD program at UPenn. The other night, though, when we were debating the relative merits of 5 paragraph essays and research papers, he did mention that the rest of the class did not exactly excel on that research paper assignment, if the comments his teacher made as she passed back the papers were any sign. John Warner, in his book, Why They Can't Write, posits a possible reason for that lack of excelling. “The writing-related tasks we frequently visit upon students would prove difficult for even highly experienced writers. Writing on subjects with which we're newly familiar, in forms that are foreign, and addressed to audiences that are either undefined or unknown (other than 'for the teacher') bears little resemblance to the way we write for the world” (27). In other words, we often ask students to try and make themselves an expert on something they're not that interested in for a research paper, use a citation format that is next thing to a foreign language for them, tie themselves in knots trying to figure out how to convey what they've learned in an orderly way that generally leaves little room for their own voice or opinions, and do it all just to show their teacher, for a grade. Of course, that is how it has seemingly always been done. And after all, we survived. I remember learning MLA format in 7th grade, and creating my first research notecards. I dutifully scrawled quotation after quotation on those notecards, putting all the source information on the back. I can't remember what I wrote about though, for that 7th grade research paper. Literally nothing comes to mind. The first research assignment that I do remember came in 11th grade, when I participated in Minnesota's National History Day, making it to the State Finals with my project "The Column: Supporting Architecture through the Ages." I remember my architectural timeline, supported on a bridge of heavy white dominos across the front of my display board. I remember learning about Ionic, Corinthian, and Doric columns, and I've seen them all over the world in my travels since. I remember my virtual explorations of Athens, as I searched through various texts trying to figure out how the column worked, why it was so special, and what it looked like in buildings all over ancient Greece. I remember presenting my project in Duluth, sensing that I barely made it through with so many other great projects on hand, learning from the quality around me, and improving it before heading for Minneapolis. I remember going to Valley Fair, the amusement park I had had my eye on for years, after the state competition, with my Dad. It. Was. Awesome. My National History Day Project let me choose any topic of interest to me that fit whatever the general theme was that year. It let me use my love of design, color, lettering, and layout in addition to my research skills. It gave me an authentic audience to consider. I think I still had to use MLA citation format, but I was so busy with everything else that I wasn't about to let cracking that code stop me. I had a competition to win. (Not that I did, but I sure had fun trying). When I look back on my academic and professional life so far, research in service of real purpose, in an arena that truly interested me, with the ability to include modes that I enjoy working in, for an audience I truly hoped to impact, made all the difference in igniting my best work. So what if we warm our students up to research with activities, projects, and shorter writing pieces that focus more on elements like these, and less on notecards? What if, instead of jumping into huge MLA research papers with only one person - us - as the intended audience, we cast a wider net around the area of research and explore ways to give students more agency over topic, mode, and audience? This introduction is getting out of hand. Thirteen paragraphs in and we haven't played the music yet. It's lucky I'm not writing a five paragraph essay. So without further ado, let's talk about five alternatives to the research paper that help students practice key skills they can draw on later, if and when they choose a path that requires them to write lengthy academic research papers with full citations in APA or MLA. BUT, when his Dad got a computer and he played Age of Empires, he got excited about all the possibilities, trying to tinker with building things that mimicked these computer games. Even these days, he writes a lot of code, building side projects with Claude Code. When he's not coding, he's playing sports, primarily tennis.Maddy and his team identified that verification of age, credentials, employment history, etc. was a big, big problem. It's Monday, September 29th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Muslim crowd demands Indonesian church halts worship A Muslim crowd near Jakarta, Indonesia demanded a Christian congregation suspend worship on Sunday, September 21st, reports Morning Star News. In Tangerang at least 20 Muslims arrived at the Indonesian Bethel Church at 9:00 a.m., an hour before the congregation was to begin worship in a shophouse, a video recording shows. The Muslims demanded a halt to all worship until the church obtains all relevant permits. Slovakia bans surrogacy and homosexual adoption, recognize only two sexes Last Friday, the nation of Slovakia rejected European Union legislation by amending its constitution to enshrine recognition of only two sexes, ban the practice of surrogacy, and restrict adoption to heterosexual married couples, reports LifeSiteNews.com. Genesis 2:24 says, "Therefore, a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” Gunman kills two and injures eight at Mormon place of worship A gunman opened fire inside a Michigan Mormon place of worship, 60 miles northwest of Detroit, at 10:25am ET during the Sunday service, killing two people and injuring eight. He then set the building ablaze, before police shot and killed him, reports ABC News. Police Chief William Renye said hundreds of people were inside the building in Grand Blanc Township when a 40-year-old man rammed his vehicle into the front door, then exited the vehicle, and started shooting.  The gunman has been identified as Thomas Jacob Sanford, reports NBC News. The suspect is believed to have set the building on fire which caused a five-alarm blaze that caused a partial collapse of the structure. Flames and smoke could be seen for hours before the blaze was put out. Investigators wonder whether the shooting is connected with the death of the oldest-ever president of Latter-day Saints, Russell Nelson, who died at the age of 101 the day before. The next Mormon president is expected to be 93-year-old Dallin Oaks, per Mormon protocol. Christian pastor denied access to Dallas airport chapel A Christian pastor was denied access to the chapel at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport by a Muslim cleric, reports Christian talk host Todd Starnes. Tom Ascol, a prominent Southern Baptist pastor, wrote on social media that he had been in Dallas to visit the grieving family of Voddie Baucham, a renowned pastor and scholar.  Ascol said that he heard an announcement inviting passengers to visit the Meadows Chapel for a prayer service. The announcement included the phrase “all are welcome.” Ascol wrote on X, “With broken heart I went hoping maybe Scripture would at least be read. Instead, I found this & was denied access.”  The Baptist pastor posted a photograph of Muslims inside the chapel kneeling on prayer rugs. The pastor said he was physically blocked from entering the room. He explained, “They blocked my way in the inner room.  A man who had offered a loud prayer, not the Imam, said I could come in if I took my shoes off. I refused.” Church attendance rising after Kirk's murder, particularly among youth Some pastors have reported seeing an increase in church attendance following the assassination of Charlie Kirk, the conservative Christian founder of Turning Point USA, particularly among young adults, some of whom haven't attended a worship service in years, reports The Christian Post. JP De Gance, the founder and president of Communio, a ministry that helps churches evangelize better and expand their outreach capacities, believes that Kirk's message has inspired many young people to experience the Christian faith through a church community.  He said, “[There has been] a lot of anecdotal feedback from churches in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, and Douglas County, Colorado, reporting that they've seen an increase [in attendance] over the last two Sundays." Communio, which serves around 400 churches nationwide, has received reports of increased attendance from various religious denominations. Speculating on why Kirk's death, which was headline news worldwide, might have been the driving force to get young people to attend church, De Gance said that perhaps some began to take stock of their lives after hearing that someone within their age range had died a violent death. De Gance believes that more young people are coming to know who Charlie Kirk was and what he had to say about marriage, family and living for Christ, beliefs that reportedly were the reason why Tyler Robinson targeted him.  He said, “I think that causes a level of introspection. I think that causes people to ask, ‘What am I living for right now?'” Why Tim Allen forgave drunk driver who killed his father And finally, in a podcast with Michael Rowe, Tim Allen, the 72-year-old former star of the Home Improvement sitcom, shared the story of his father's death in 1964. ALLEN: “My father was killed by a drunk driver when I was 11 years old. Luckily, he was the only one killed, but he died in my mother's lap. My other two brothers were thrown around the car. A lot of kids were hurt.” Tim Allen's father had been driving home from a Colorado football game with six children in the vehicle along with his wife.  Tim was not in the car that day.  The drunk driver swerved across I-70, went through a median, and hit the car. Tim explained what his uncle told him. ALLEN: “And then I'm walking down to my house, knowing something terrible had happened. I get to the house, there's police, and my uncle was there and said, ‘Man up. You know, your mom needs you right now. So, no crying, none of that.” ROWE: “How old are you this point?” ALLEN: “Eleven. He was a great dad, love of my life. I said, ‘This doesn't make any sense. I don't like this.' And everybody's answer was, ‘He's in a better place.' The pain of it never stopped. The discomfort of it. That whole process started me on asking questions. Generally, getting no answers.” Tim Allen added, "Every single thing in my life changed. I knew it the moment he was dead, and it was not for four hours that I found out. I've hated November since then.”  On Thursday, September 24, he revealed that — after watching Charlie Kirk's widow, Erika Kirk, forgive her husband's killer on September 21st — he decided to do the same for the drunk driver who killed his father, reports People Magazine. Allen wrote on X, "When Erika Kirk spoke the words on the man who killed her husband [Charlie]: 'That man… that young man… I forgive him.' That moment deeply affected me. I have struggled for over 60 years to forgive the man who killed my Dad. I will say those words now as I type: 'I forgive the man who killed my father.'" Ephesians 4:32 commands, “Forgive one another, even as God, in Christ, forgave you.” Indeed, Erika Kirk said, “My husband, Charlie, he wanted to save young men, just like the one who took his life."   Listen to the unforgettable moment when Erika forgave her husband's assassin at the Memorial on September 21st held at State Farm Arena in Phoenix, Arizona, just 11 days after his assassination. ERIKA KIRK:  “On the cross, our Savior said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.'  (Luke 23:34) “That man, [Tyler Robinson], I forgive him. (applause as she wept) I forgive him because it was what Christ did, and it's what Charlie would do. The answer to hate is not hate. The answer, we know from the Gospel, is love, and always love. Love for our enemies and love for those who persecute us.” Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old man now being held at the Utah County Jail without bail, has been accused of the crime. If found guilty, the prosecutor has called for the death penalty. The Gospel Without Varnish The Desert Fathers present the Gospel in its rawest form. Their words strike the heart not because they soften Christ's commands but because they echo them without compromise: do not resist the one who is evil, forgive seventy times seven, love your enemies, bless those who curse you. To modern ears, this sounds offensive—even impossible. How can one not seek justice, especially when faced with cruelty, violence, or grave injustice? Yet the Fathers insist: freedom in Christ means clinging to nothing but His love as the one thing necessary. When we are wronged, our sorrow should not be for what has been taken from us, but for the soul of the one who has inflicted harm. Their sin is their true wound. Our calling is not to avenge but to forgive, not to condemn but to pray. Hypothesis XXXVII presses this home with piercing clarity. A struggler carrying a corpse is told: “Bear the living instead.” To shoulder the weakness of our neighbor, to endure his sins and insults, is the harder burden—but also the one that unites us to Christ. The examples unfold like a mirror before us. The elder who restrains himself when boys blaspheme outside his cell reminds his heart: If I cannot bear this small vexation, how will I endure a greater trial? Another, who endures the disobedience of his companion without protest, embraces a hidden martyrdom. Still another teaches: To put up with your neighbor in a difficult moment is equal to the martyrdom of the Three Youths in the furnace. The lesson is relentless: daily forbearance is our Golgotha. To return angry words, to demand repayment, to run to courts for vindication—these reveal hearts still bound to the world. But to endure injustice with patience, to forgive without condition, to pray for those who wrong us—this is to share in Christ's meekness on the Cross. Abba Isaiah pierces deeper: how can we beg God's mercy for our sins while refusing mercy to our neighbor? To repay evil for evil is to declare, in effect, that God does not judge rightly. The Fathers show us how far we fall short: Christ bore poverty, betrayal, insult, and death without retaliation—yet we cannot endure even a word of offense without bitterness. Modern sensibilities stumble here. We demand rights, recompense, recognition. But the Fathers summon us to something purer and more terrifyingly beautiful: to love as Christ loves, even when it crucifies us. When wronged, our grief must be for our brother's soul, not our own loss. His sin wounds him unto death; our response must be prayer for his healing. This is no easy path. It is a crucifixion of the will, a death to self. It cannot be done without grace. Yet in enduring wrong with gentleness, in forgiving when wounded, in praying for those who hurt us, we enter the very marrow of the Gospel. The Desert Fathers offer no compromise. The way of Christ is the way of the Cross. To bear wrongs patiently is to drink His chalice. To forgive without measure is to wear His likeness. And to weep not for what we have lost but for the one who has harmed us—this is the freedom of those who live only in His love. --- Text of chat during the group: 00:15:19 Fr. Una mujer empezó a anotar, cada noche, tres agradecimientos específicos del día. No generalidades, sino detalles. (RV1960).

What If All Your Prayers Were Answered? Part One

We all know prayer is our lifeline to God, and we are encouraged to cast all our cares upon God, because he cares for us. We know God is intimately interested in our everyday lives, and he rejoices when we rejoice and mourns when we mourn. Jesus empathizes with all our weaknesses because he walked this earthly road like you, and I do. So, it is normal and wise for us to pray about the circumstances of our lives—to bring all our concerns to God in prayer. As the old hymn says: “Oh, what peace we often forfeit, oh what needless pain we bear All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.” But I want us to consider the content of our prayers. If all your prayers were answered, would it make a difference for eternity? That's the exact question my pastor posed, and I've been giving that a lot of thought. Do I pray primarily—not exclusively but primarily—about things that would make a difference for eternity if my prayers were answered? For example, how do you pray for your family and friends? Do you primarily pray for their spiritual condition? Do you pray for the believers to walk worthy of their call? Do you pray that they will use their gifts to glorify God and do the good works he planned for them to do? If they are not yet believers, do you pray mostly that God will do whatever it takes for them to see their need of salvation? That kind of praying is more important than their health, their financial problems, their success, even their happiness. Sure, we all want our family and friends to be happy, but maybe they need some tough times to bring them back to God. If all your prayers for your family and others were answered, would they maybe just have better grades at school, or better jobs, or more money, or nicer homes? Those are all quite nice, and we can pray about them. But more importantly, if all your prayers for your family and friends were answered, would they start to live more wholeheartedly for Jesus? I have a fairly large extended family; if my count is right, there are more than 90 of us counting down from my Mom and Dad, including children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and their mates. Whew, that's a lot of people. I think of the heritage handed to us by my parents—simple people living lives of integrity and honor to Jesus, a godly heritage as the Bible describes it. And as I pray for all of this crew, my first and most consuming prayer is that they will all walk worthy of the teaching and guidance they have received, that they will pass on to their children the lessons passed on to them, the truth handed to them. More than anything else, I pray for their spiritual welfare. That matters for eternity. I encourage you to examine the content of your prayers for your family. Pray for their physical needs, their success, their health—yes, of course. But make it your habit to pray mostly and primarily for their spiritual condition, for their relationship with God through Jesus Christ. How do you pray for the world—this huge world we live in? In the Bible, God's people are urged to engage with the world around them and not to withdraw from it. That means we should always pray for things and people outside of our own personal circle. Recently, I intentionally reviewed the content of my prayers, and I realized that I often pray for health issues for people I know; I pray for increased financial support for this ministry; I pray for pastors at my church and ministry there. But it became rather clear that my prayers were often limited to my world. How about you? Review what you've prayed for the past few days. Have your prayers primarily revolved around you and people you know? God wants us to pray about the world around us. How do you do that? Well, first you become educated and aware of what's happening outside your world. A few years ago, along with a coworker in my church, I became aware for the first time of the scourge of sex trafficking in our country and our city.

Grief can make the world feel uncanny — and sometimes the uncanny feels like comfort. In this episode we hear from multiple listeners whose lives were changed by strange coincidences and possible messages from the other side. One woman flies across the country after her father dies and begins seeing small, specific signs: the Breakfast Club song playing at impossible moments, a yellow balloon that bursts on the exact anniversary, a mysterious phone ring that shouldn't have connected — and recurring dreams where Dad insists, “I'm not dead… I faked my death.” Are these comforting visitations, or our minds searching for connection? We also debate memorial choices: cremation keepsakes and urn jewelry that let families carry a piece of a loved one, and whether that matters to the departed. Then we shift to other eerie submissions — a college Christmas with a Polaroid that keeps ending up in the trash, an EVP capture that sounds like a chilling whisper, and a man who kept seeing the synchronicity number 11:11 during a terrifying medical scare. When a tiny cross gifted by a sister shows up at the exact moment of difficult biopsy news, coincidence becomes consolation. Are these supernatural signs, psychological comfort, or meaningful synchronicities? We don't have definitive answers — only the real, moving stories people send in when they want to know if they're still being watched over. Tune in for comfort, goosebumps, and the tender strangeness that shows up after loss. #SignsFromBeyond #GriefStories #Synchronicity #11_11 #EVP #TrueGhostStories #CremationJewelry #RealHauntings #ComfortFromBeyond #RealGhostStoriesOnline Love real ghost stories?
