Evolution with natural selection involves an intricate mix of the random and the driven. Mutations are essentially random, while selection pressures work to prefer certain outcomes over others. There is tremendous divergence of species over time, but also repeated convergence to forms and mechanisms that are unmistakably useful. We see this clearly in eyes and fins, but the basic pattern also holds for brains and forms of social organization. I talk with philosopher Rachell Powell about what these ideas mean for humans, other terrestrial species, and also for forms of life we have not yet encountered.Blog post with transcript: https://www.preposterousuniverse.com/podcast/2026/01/26/342-rachell-powell-on-evolutionary-convergence-morality-and-mind/Support Mindscape on Patreon.Rachell Powell received her Ph.D. in philosophy from Duke University. In episode 499 James and Frank dive into the messy, exciting world of coding agents — from burning through Copilot credits and avoiding merge conflicts to practical workflows for letting agents run tasks while you sleep. They share real tips: break big features into bite-sized tasks, have agents ask clarifying questions, and use Copilot CLI or the new SDK to resolve conflicts, auto-fix lint/build failures, and automate mundane repo work. The conversation then maps the evolution from simple completions to autonomous loops like Ralph — a structured, repeatable process that generates subtasks, runs until acceptance tests pass, and updates your workflow. If you're curious how agents, MCPs and SDKs can elevate your dev flow or spark new automations, this episode gives pragmatic examples, trade-offs, and inspiration to start experimenting today. That's why I love working with herbal allies that support the nervous system, immune system, and sleep naturally, instead of forcing or overriding the body. These three legendary blends from WishGarden Herbs are ones I personally trust and come back to again and again: Deep Stress Daily Calm is my go-to when life feels relentless. Chronic stress impacts hormones, immunity, energy, and mood — not just mentally, but physically. This blend features ashwagandha and nourishing nervine herbs that help calm the stress response both in the moment and over time. It supports healthier cortisol patterns, steadier energy, improved sleep quality, and a more balanced mood — helping the body shift out of constant high gear and back into regulation. When stress shows up as a racing mind at night, Sleepy Nights & Fresh Mornings is such a gentle yet powerful support. I love that it's formulated without melatonin, valerian, or kava, so it supports natural sleep rhythms without dependency or morning grogginess. Whether taken before bed or during unwanted night wakings, it helps calm the mind so the body can settle into deeper, more restorative sleep. And when you start to feel that familiar "something's coming on" feeling, Kick-Ass Immune Activator is what I reach for. This fast-acting blend supports immune and respiratory health right when the body needs it most — helping you respond early instead of waiting until you're already depleted. Because supporting your immune system proactively makes a massive difference. What I love most about WishGarden Herbs is that their formulas are USDA Certified Organic, non-GMO, gluten-free, vegan, and crafted to work with the body's innate intelligence. These aren't quick fixes — they're true herbal allies. Discover the natural power of WishGarden Herbs' legendary blends and save 20% on your order with code NOSUGARCOATING. "There is a difference between being responsible and being regulated." Topics Discussed Control disguised as care, responsibility, and being proactive Why overdoing can feel safe but keep the nervous system stuck The quiet exhaustion of managing everything and everyone How fertility burnout shows up in the mundane moments The illusion of success created by control Becoming the ultimate observer without judgment Why doing nothing for a moment can be deeply regulating Sometimes fixing is not love. It is fear in a more socially acceptable outfit. Hello Beautiful, Monica here supporting you to become the conscious mama you were born to be… This episode is a brutally honest look at control. Not the obvious kind. The sneaky kind. The kind that looks like fixing, managing, improving, optimizing, and being the responsible one. The kind that gets praised. And the kind that quietly keeps your nervous system on edge while your body whispers, or screams, for relief. I share a very real moment where my own control patterns showed up while recording this very series. The urge to do more. Add more. Fix something that was already enough. And how noticing that impulse changed everything. Because the work that actually shifts fertility, burnout, and emotional exhaustion is not flashy. It is boring. It is mundane. What if neurons aren't the foundation of mind? In this Mind-Body Solution Colloquia, Michael Levin and Robert Chis-Ciure challenge one of neuroscience's deepest assumptions: that cognition and intelligence are exclusive to brains and neurons.Drawing on cutting-edge work in bioelectricity, developmental biology, and philosophy of mind, this conversation explores how cells, tissues, and living systems exhibit goal-directed behavior, memory, and problem-solving — long before neurons ever appear. We explore: • Cognition without neurons• Bioelectric networks as control systems• Memory and learning beyond synapses• Morphogenesis as collective intelligence• Implications for AI, consciousness, and ethicsThis episode pushes neuroscience beyond the neuron, toward a deeper understanding of mind, life, and intelligence as continuous across scales.TIMESTAMPS:0:00 – Introduction: Why Neuroscience Must Go Beyond Neurons3:12 – The Central Claim: Cognition Is Not Exclusive to Brains7:05 – Defining Cognition, Intelligence, and Agency Without Neurons11:02 – Bioelectricity as a Control Layer for Morphogenesis15:08 – Cells as Problem-Solvers: Goals, Memory, and Error Correction19:41 – The Body as a Cognitive System: Scaling Intelligence Across Levels24:10 – Developmental Plasticity and Non-Neural Decision-Making28:36 – Morphological Computation and Collective Cellular Intelligence33:02 – Challenging Neuron-Centric Neuroscience Assumptions37:18 – Bioelectric Networks vs Neural Networks: Key Differences41:55 – Memory Without Synapses: Storing Information in Living Tissue46:07 – Rewriting Anatomy: Regeneration, Repatterning, and Control50:29 – Cancer, Developmental Errors, and Cognitive Breakdown54:48 – Pluribus: Philosophical Implications59:14 – From Cells to Selves: Where Does Agency Begin?1:03:22 – Implications for AI: Intelligence Without Brains or Neurons1:08:11 – Rethinking Consciousness: Gradualism vs Binary Models1:12:47 – Ethics of Expanding the Moral Circle Beyond Humans1:17:31 – Future Science: New Tools for a Post-Neuron Neuroscience1:22:54 – Closing Reflections: Life, Mind, and Intelligence All the Way DownEPISODE LINKS:- Cognition All the Way Down 2.0: Neuroscience Beyond Neurons in the Diverse Intelligence Era: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11229-025-05319-6- Robert's Publications: https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=7V9C7skAAAAJ&hl=en- Mike's Podcast 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6gp-ORTBlU- Mike's Podcast 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMxTS7eKkNM- Mike's Podcast 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1R-tdscgxu4- Mike's Podcast 4 (with Terrence Deacon): https://youtu.be/HuWbHwPZd60?si=z2unvX37OjXMjjIv- Mike's Lecture: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQEX-twenkA- Mike's Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@drmichaellevin- Mike's Website: https://drmichaellevin.org/- Mike's Blog: https://thoughtforms.lifeCONNECT:- Website: https://mindbodysolution.org - YouTube: https://youtube.com/@mindbodysolution- Podcast: https://creators.spotify.com/pod/show/mindbodysolution- Twitter: https://twitter.com/drtevinnaidu- Facebook: https://facebook.com/drtevinnaidu - Instagram: https://instagram.com/drtevinnaidu- LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/drtevinnaidu- Website: https://tevinnaidu.com=============================Disclaimer: The information provided on this channel is for educational purposes only. Want to know how your residents really feel?Watch the door swing open when a maintenance tech walks in.In today's Multifamily Operations Tip of the Day, Mike Brewer puts the spotlight where it belongs — on the most under-celebrated, yet most impactful member of your onsite team: the service technician. It's not the leasing agent. It's not the community manager. It's the person with the tool bag and shoe covers.Resident sentiment is shaped in those quiet, unscripted moments when life is disrupted by a broken faucet, a faulty HVAC, or a leaky fridge. How your tech enters, greets, and resets the space says everything about your brand. Shoe covers? Respect. Friendly hello? Warmth. Clean up after the fix? Professionalism.Mike's message is clear: every micro moment is a brand-building moment.Service techs are your frontline. They carry your reputation into every home. They deserve training, support, recognition, and most of all, gratitude. If you're serious about five-star reviews and long-term resident retention, start by celebrating the people who make homes livable. If this message resonates, like the video, subscribe, and tag a service team member who deserves the spotlight.Blog: https://www.multifamilycollective.comSupport comes from: https://www.365connect.com/?utm_campaign=mmnHosted by: https://www.multifamilymedianetwork.com
You're already qualified. Now get to the point.Mike takes a pause from the daily operations tips to share a gem inspired by a post from Martin Kelly of Blueprint and a bold moment from none other than John Cleese. The lesson? Stop qualifying yourself. If you're on the stage, in the room, or hosting a podcast, you're already credible. No need to give your life story before sharing your insight.Mike reflects on how even seasoned leaders fall into the trap of proving they're “worthy” before delivering the goods. But here's the truth: the audience is already with you. Get to the insight. Give value fast. Trust that you belong. This one's for every multifamily professional who's ever felt the urge to justify themselves before making their point. Remember the Google demo several years ago where an AI scheduled a hair appointment? That wasn't science fiction; it was a sneak peek into today. In this episode of the Multifamily Collective, I'm unpacking what may just be the biggest game-changer in property management since the lease itself: agents serving agents. Not just leasing agents, but intelligent proxies doing business for residents, based on their digital behavior and preferences.Google's new Personalized Intelligence gives its AI the ability to sift through your Gmail, YouTube history, and more. Why? To anticipate your needs and take action before you even say a word. Now imagine this in Multifamily: Your future resident's AI is already shopping apartments based on their emails, watching your videos, syncing with their lifestyle, while your leasing agent's AI is already responding. That's agent-to-agent commerce. This isn't a someday conversation. It's already happening.Don't forget to like and subscribe; the future of Multifamily isn't waiting, and neither should you.Blog: https://www.multifamilycollective.comSupport comes from: https://www.365connect.com/?utm_campaign=mmnHosted by: https://www.multifamilymedianetwork.comJoin us to stay informed and inspired in the multifamily industry!

Is 120 days too early to talk about renewals? Not if you value occupancy and pricing power. In today's Multifamily Operator Tip of the Day, we're resetting the mindset around renewal timing. The truth? Renewals aren't just a notice—they're a relationship. Some say the renewal convo should start at move-in. Others say 90 days. But I'm telling you, 120 days out with a thoughtful communication process is the sweet spot. Why? Because it gives residents time to reflect and gives your team time to execute. And here's your bonus: Automate it.Early outreach tells your residents one thing loud and clear: We're organized, we're confident, and we want you here.If you're investing in service, CapEx, and meaningful touchpoints, then starting early isn't a risk. It's a retention strategy. When residents feel seen, they respond with loyalty.Don't wait for the lease to expire to start the conversation. David Gavin learned retail marketing the hard way: by watching, asking questions, and looking for the white space everyone else ignored. In this episode, Danny sits down with his uncle, David Gavin, a worldwide sales and merchandising consultant who went from navigating apartheid-era South Africa to becoming a strategic force in North American jewelry retail. David shares how focusing on what competitors aren't doing beats racing to the bottom of price, how mentors who throw you in the deep end can change your career trajectory forever, and how the true mark of a salesperson isn't the sum of a set of soft skills, it's how you connect with people.Episode Highlights: Success comes from identifying white space, the opportunities competitors overlook, rather than fighting over what everyone else is already doing.PowerPoint presentations aren't just sales tools; they're strategic frameworks that help clients see concepts they couldn't articulate themselves.Calculated risk-taking means being willing to leave comfort behind when you see a bigger opportunity, even if the path isn't clear.Mentorship often looks like being thrown into the deep end with people who believe you'll figure out how to swim.Retail success requires understanding both the corporate and independent sides of the business, and being willing to walk into stores and observe what's actually happening.Episode Links: David Gavin on LinkedInDavid Greg WebsiteRapaport Magazine: The Rise of Desert DiamondsFollow The Digital Marketing Mentor: Website and Blog: thedmmentor.com Instagram: @thedmmentor Linkedin: @thedmmentor YouTube: @thedmmentor Interested in Digital Marketing Services, Careers, or Courses? Feeling unworthy, disqualified, or “too much”? In this episode, Dr. Catherine Toon reveals how God’s love has already named you worthy—and why your deepest dreams still matter to Him. In part two of the God’s Dreams, Your Dreams: Is God That Good? series, Catherine goes after the religious lie that you have a “sinful nature” and shows from Scripture that your true identity in Christ is rooted in original innocence, not original sin. Before the foundation of the world, God chose you, joined Himself to you, and marked you with love (Ephesians 1:4; 2 Timothy 1:9–10). You’re not an accident, and you’re not an afterthought—you are the “poema” of God (Ephesians 2:10), His handcrafted poetry and the very fabric of His delight. Walking through Romans 8:28–30, Catherine unpacks what it really means to be foreknown, predestined, called, justified, and glorified—not as a harsh sorting of who’s in and who’s out, but as the revelation of a God who refuses to abandon His kids. This is spiritual healing at the root level: God dismantles shame, exposes the voice of accusation, and invites you into spiritual transformation by awakening you to who you’ve always been in Him. You’ll discover how a playful, dancing God (Proverbs 8) has always delighted in you; how He planted desires, destiny, and good works in you to walk out; and how discovering your identity in God frees you from the torment of unworthiness and overcoming spiritual shame. As you agree with God’s verdict over you—beloved, holy, worthy—you begin to live like it, and sin loses its grip. Sean Carroll's Mindscape: Science, Society, Philosophy, Culture, Arts, and Ideas
"Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold," wrote W.B. Yeats. I don't know about the centre, but the tendency of things to fall apart is pretty universal, ultimately due to the Second Law of Thermodynamics. Anyone living in a society or involved with technology must therefore be interested in the concept of maintenance -- keeping systems working. In his book Maintenance: Of Everything, Part One, Stewart Brand looks at the challenges and rewards of this concept.Blog post with transcript: https://www.preposterousuniverse.com/podcast/2026/01/19/341-stewart-brand-on-maintenance-as-an-organizing-principle/Support Mindscape on Patreon.Stewart Brand received an undergraduate degree in biology from Stanford University. He was the founder, editor, and publisher of the Whole Earth Catalog, which won a National Book Award.
