This week’s message from Hebrews 10:32–39 carries a deeply personal note. Before the sermon, we sang “Walk by Calvary”—a song written by my dad, Dave Garrett. He wasn’t just a pastor; he was a songwriter who lived out Colossians 3:16, letting the Word of Christ dwell richly through hymns and spiritual songs. For me, his words are a heritage of faith, pointing me (and now all of us) back to the cross. He was about centering everything on Christ. I can’t think of a better way to step into Hebrews’ call to remember and endure than by remembering the faithfulness of God through the song of a man who lived it. This sermon is from the "Greater Than" series through Hebrews at La Mirada Christian Church. Listen to the complete series @LaMiradaChurchChannel

Love to hear from you; “Send us a Text Message”Shocking parallels between today's educational landscape and the "45 Goals of Communism" entered into Congressional Records decades ago. Several goals explicitly target education: "Get control of schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers' unions. Put the party line in textbooks." Looking at American education today, these strategies appear to be unfolding with frightening precision. Why Trump matters to children, families and the nation. A recent Supreme Court ruling in Mahmoud versus Taylor offers hope, affirming parents' rights to opt their children out of instruction that contradicts their religious beliefs. However, implementation depends greatly on who controls the Department of Justice, as the previous administration actively worked against parental rights, even directing the FBI to investigate parents who spoke at school board meetings.Join the growing movement of parents and citizens reclaiming education for academic excellence and age-appropriate content that respects family values and parental authority.Visit Tom Hampson's SubStack "Women Who Prey: The Rising Threat of Female Sexual Predators"Help Young Men! In this episode I chat with Michael Kemp, author of three investment books—Creating Real Wealth, Uncommon Sense, and The Ulysses Contract. Our conversation was inspired by Michael's presentation at the 2025 Australian Shareholders Association conference, diving deeply into the quirks of human psychology and how they shape our investing decisions. Our brains are wired for survival in a prehistoric world, often leading us astray in modern financial markets. Michael pointed out that our ancestors needed to make snap judgments to avoid becoming a predator's lunch. Federico Campagna joins me to discuss how myth—too often dismissed as escapism or co-opted by reaction—can instead become a practice of imagination, solidarity, and survival. We look at myth's place in anti-capitalist politics, its tension with materialism, and its role in resisting despair. What emerges is a vision of myth as a politics of possibility against history's catastrophes.Acid Horizon Research Commons is now live: https://www.acidhorizonpodcast.com/ahrc-mainLEPHT HAND: https://www.patreon.com/LEPHTHANDJoin us with Grafton Tanner on live stream on 8.24.25: https://studio.youtube.com/video/BC5H8TU6wqQ/edit"Technic and Magic: Politics, Neoplatonism, and the Limits of Language with Federico Campagna": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sSdkgnXgqsOtherworlds: Mediterranean Lessons On Escaping History: https://www.bloomsbury.com/us/otherworlds-9781350536401/Support the showSupport the podcast:https://www.acidhorizonpodcast.com/Linktree: https://linktr.ee/acidhorizonAcid Horizon on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/acidhorizonpodcast Boycott Watkins Media: https://xenogothic.com/2025/03/17/boycott-watkins-statement/ Join The Schizoanalysis Project: https://discord.gg/4WtaXG3QxnSubscribe to us on your favorite podcast: https://pod.link/1512615438Merch: http://www.crit-drip.comSubscribe to us on your favorite podcast: https://pod.link/1512615438 LEPHT HAND: https://www.patreon.com/LEPHTHANDHappy Hour at Hippel's (Adam's blog): https://happyhourathippels.wordpress.comRevolting Bodies (Will's Blog): https://revoltingbodies.comSplit Infinities (Craig's Substack): https://splitinfinities.substack.com/Music: https://sereptie.bandcamp.com/ and https://thecominginsurrection.bandcamp.com/
640. Bruce's son Kerr joins us for part 1 of our conversation with Josh Neufeld about his non-fiction graphic novel, A. D. After the Deluge. “A stunning graphic novel that makes plain the undeniable horrors and humanity triggered by Hurricane Katrina in the true stories of six New Orleanians who survived the storm. A.D. follows each of the six from the hours before Katrina struck to its horrific aftermath. Here is Denise, a sixth-generation New Orleanian who will experience the chaos of the Superdome; the Doctor, whose unscathed French Quarter home becomes a refuge for those not so lucky; Abbas and his friend Mansell, who face the storm from the roof of Abbas's family-run market; Kwame, a pastor's son whose young life will remain wildly unsettled well into the future; and Leo, a comic-book fan, and his girlfriend, Michelle, who will lose everything but each other.” Now available: Liberty in Louisiana: A Comedy. The oldest play about Louisiana, author James Workman wrote it as a celebration of the Louisiana Purchase. Now it is back in print for the first time in 221 years. Order your copy today! This week in the Louisiana Anthology. Walt Whitman came to New Orleans for 3 months to write at the New Orleans Crescent. There he saw things he had not seen in New York. This poem is about one of those. "I Saw in Louisiana a Live-Oak Growing." I saw in Louisiana a live-oak growing, All alone stood it and the moss hung down from the branches, Without any companion it grew there uttering joyous leaves of dark green, And its look, rude, unbending, lusty, made me think of myself, But I wonder'd how it could utter joyous leaves standing alone there without its friend near, for I knew I could not, And I broke off a twig with a certain number of leaves upon it, and twined around it a little moss, And brought it away, and I have placed it in sight in my room, It is not needed to remind me as of my own dear friends, (For I believe lately I think of little else than of them,) Yet it remains to me a curious token, it makes me think of manly love; For all that, and though the live-oak glistens there in Louisiana solitary in a wide flat space, Uttering joyous leaves all its life without a friend a lover near, I know very well I could not. This week in Louisiana history. August 23, 1714. St. Denis begins his exploration of Red River Valley. This week in New Orleans history. The grass-roots organization Levees.org, founded by Sandy Rosenthal and her son Stanford (while exiled in Lafayette after Hurricane Katrina) is devoted to educating America on the facts associated with the 2005 catastrophic flooding of the New Orleans region. On August 23, 2010 the group installed a Louisiana State Historic Marker which reads “On August 29, 2005, a federal floodwall atop a levee on the 17th Street Canal, the largest and most important drainage canal for the city, gave way here causing flooding that killed hundreds. This breach was one of 50 ruptures in the Federal Flood Protection System on that day. In 2008, the US District Court placed responsibility for this floodwall's collapse squarely on the US Army Corps of Engineers.” This week in Louisiana. We share successes with tomato varieties like Dr. Wyche's Yellow and Chef's Choice Orange, while addressing challenges like blossom end rot and effective watering techniques. Don offers insights on various tomato cultivars, including promising hybrid-heirloom crosses, including the one pictured - the Genuwine - a cross between the Costaluto Genovese and the Brandywine. We also discuss the growing trend of peppers as perennials, along with best practices for cultivating them and other crops like cucumbers and rhubarb in hot climates. The conversation blends practical gardening tips with personal experiences for all levels of gardeners.Previous episodes, show notes, links, product information, and transcripts at the home site for Garden Basics with Farmer Fred, GardenBasics.net. Love to hear from you; “Send us a Text Message”What happens when our deepest desires for connection and love become twisted by a pornographic culture? Father Thomas Morrow joins us to explore how we can reclaim authentic sexuality in a world that has reduced it to mere pleasure-seeking.Father Morrow, author of "Achieving Chastity in an Unchaste World," shares powerful insights about transforming our hearts rather than merely suppressing desires. Drawing from his decades of pastoral experience, he offers practical wisdom for those struggling with pornography addiction—including the story of a man who overcame a 20-year daily habit through prayer and intentional heart conversion. The conversation delves into Pope John Paul II's profound teachings on human love, explaining how we can move beyond mere attraction and desire toward authentic goodwill and self-gift. When temptation strikes, Father Morrow suggests simple but effective practices: repeating "Jesus" in your heart, redirecting thoughts, and transforming attraction into gratitude by mentally thanking God for the beauty He created.Purchase: Achieving Chastity in An Unchaste WorldPrayer emerges as the essential foundation for chastity. As Father Morrow explains, "Those who pray are saved, those who don't pray are damned"—not as a threat, but as a simple truth about relationship. Even when prayer feels boring (as it did for St. Teresa of Avila), perseverance leads to transformation. The Divine Mercy devotion offers particular strength, with Jesus's promise that those who venerate the image will not perish. For anyone struggling with sexual temptation, Father Morrow leaves us with this comforting truth: "The difference between a saint and a sinner is that a saint is a sinner who never stopped trying." No matter how many times we fall, God's mercy awaits our return—inviting us to a love infinitely more fulfilling than anything this world can offer.Read Jacks latest Blog on Substack: "Awakened by Beauty, Commissioned for Battle, Seeking Adventure"Support the show

Send us a textEveryone says they just want to be happy—but that mindset might be the biggest head fake of them all.In this episode, I unpack the hard truth: being happy is fleeting, but choosing happiness is forever.Happiness isn't a mood. It's a direction. And the path to it? That takes discipline—a personal code of behavior that keeps you moving, especially when your emotions don't.We'll explore:Why chasing happiness keeps you stuckHow to define happiness using the Five F'sThe difference between emotional highs and directional fulfillmentWhy discipline isn't about punishment—it's about alignmentHow to stay the course when life throws adversity, uncertainty, and complacency your wayIf you're tired of relying on motivation and ready to build a life that actually means something—this one's for you.
If you keep identifying as the woman who struggles, you'll stay stuck in that struggle. Topics Discussed Identity and subconscious patterns in infertility Why control and overdoing sabotage fertility Nervous system regulation and daily triggers Emotional spirals, jealousy, and comparison Radical responsibility in breaking fertility patterns Consistency in the practices that create lasting change You're not infertile, you're dealing with a fertility issue and deeper patterns of control, fear, and self-worth. Hello, beautiful souls. Today, we're cracking open one of the juiciest truths I wish I had known earlier in my fertility and motherhood journey: who you believe yourself to be might actually be what's keeping you stuck. When your identity is wrapped up in “the woman who struggles to conceive,” you unconsciously broadcast that story again and again, and your body follows suit. This episode isn't about doing more—more diets, more protocols, more supplements. It's about the radical shift that happens when you stop identifying with the struggle and start collapsing old patterns. From spiraling over triggers to reaching for numbing tools like wine, scrolling, or endless Googling, I'm giving you real talk on how to unhook from the stories that are stealing your energy. Think of it like finally cleaning out the emotional junk drawer—you don't need another gadget, you need to stop digging in the same clutter. If you're tired of living in cycles of burnout, control freak spirals, and constant “not enoughness,” this is your wake-up call. You don't have to be defined by a diagnosis, a failed round, or a past identity. Press play and let's get you into the frequency of the woman who trusts her body, holds her boundaries, and stops replaying the same old tape. Lasting change doesn't come from doing more; it comes from dissolving the parts of you that no longer serve who you're becoming. Timestamps 01:20 Understanding when your identity keeps you stuck in infertility. 03:20 Triggers, spirals, and how to break old narratives that you identify with during your journey. 07:20 How to shift your mindset and choose a new story instead of numbing patterns. 15:03 The importance of letting go of control patterns and being consistent in creating lasting change. 20:3 Unlearning people pleasing, high-achieving, and fertility burnout to rewrite your identity. 27:05 The power of healing and unhooking from identity to become a conscious mama. How you do one thing is how you do everything—your fertility journey is showing you the patterns that need to shift for life.
