Central banks are acting too aggressively in their fight against inflation, threatening to plunge the global economy into a severe economic recession. That's according to a new report by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. The agency's calling on policymakers, particularly in rich nations, to take it easy on interest rate hikes. Meanwhile, the IMF has come to the defense of central banks, saying it's up to governments to support their economies. We spoke to David Madden, Equiti Capital's market analyst. #InterestRates #Inflation #Recession
21-year-old Megan Foglesong disappeared from Alden, Kansas, around the end of November 2015. When we first covered Megan's story in 2016, nearly everyone pointed to Megan's on-again, off-again boyfriend, David Madden. Megan attempted to leave him in the past and told others around Thanksgiving of 2015 that she was leaving him again. Several days later, Megan sent a message to a friend indicating that she was back at David's, then she went silent. Around this time, David texted the local undersheriff to inform him that Megan had stolen from him and ran off. In hindsight, that story about Megan stealing seems rather convenient, possibly a way to explain her absence. But at that time, no one thought much of it. They figured Megan would pop up somewhere soon. Maybe she left David and was hiding? Time passed, and Megan's loved ones became more concerned. David didn't seem interested in finding Megan. Despite rumors and suspicions swirling around town about David's involvement, Megan's case went cold. As the years went by, David went on to commit a series of other crimes that left the community convinced that he was responsible for Megan's disappearance. Energy markets are surging amid continued uncertainty over supply levels, due to the crisis in Ukraine. The commodity erased losses from overnight caused by fears over lower demand from a weak global economy. Adding to worries over the availability of oil is the failure of the world's producers to pump out what they've promised. Latest available data show the global cartel OPEC+ is, on average, more than 3.5M barrels short of its daily output goal. For more on energy markets, we spoke to David Madden, who is a market analyst at Equiti Capital in London. #EnergyPrices #Oil #NaturalGas
The dollar has hit the lowest level in one month, with stock markets rising significantly ahead of the US inflation report that will be out today. Central bankers in the world's major economies are determined to bring inflation under control, even if it means sacrificing some short-term economic growth. That was made clear this week by Jerome Powell, head of the US Federal Reserve. His comments follow the move by the European Central Bank in Frankfurt to raise its benchmark rate by 75 basis points. That's the biggest hike in borrowing costs in eurozone history, with inflation in the 19-member bloc running at a record high. David Madden is a market analyst at Equiti Capital in London. He talked about possible consequences of higher interest rates. #FederalReserve #JeromePowell #InterestRates
European markets are set for a higher open on Friday as global attention turns to US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell's speech at Jackson Hole economic symposium later today. Many analysts expect the chairman to adopt a hawkish tone and reiterate the Fed's commitment to dragging inflation back toward target. Meanwhile, the ECB's July meeting minutes were released, and they show that policymakers are increasingly concerned that inflation is getting entrenched, even as the risk of a recessions is looming in the bloc. For more, we spoke to David Madden, Equiti Capital market analyst in London. #JacksonHole #InterestRates #Inflation
Oil prices edged up on Tuesday, after Saudi Arabia warned that OPEC could cut output to correct a recent drop in oil futures. Meanwhile, Europe faces fresh disruption to energy supplies due to damage to a pipeline system bringing oil from Kazakhstan through Russia, adding to concerns over a plunge in gas supplies. Hedge fund managers beware, because the meme stock frenzy is back big time. More than a year since video game firm GameStop became centre of financial markets, retail investors on the social media platform Reddit have found their new favorite. This time, they're buying up shares in Bed Bath and Beyond, an American big-box chain that sells blankets, towels and candles. The original meme-stock darling GameStop also rose almost 9%, while cinema chain AMC was up 13%. For more, we were joined by Equiti Capital market analyst David Madden. #BedBathBeyond #GameStop #AMC
China has halted some trade with Taiwan in retaliation to the visit of United States House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi to the island. Beijing says it's stopped importing fish and fruits from Taiwan, while exports of natural sand have also been suspended. Beijing has often targeted Taiwan's agricultural industry for punishment over political issues. Meanwhile, chip maker TSMC says the global supply of semiconductors could be affected due to tensions between the world's two largest economies. For more on that, we spoke to David Madden, who is a market analyst at Equiti Capital in London. #China #Taiwan #NancyPelosi
The war in Ukraine, lockdowns in China, and rising consumer prices are threatening to push the global economy to the brink of a recession. That's according to the International Monetary Fund's updated World Economic Outlook released this week. According to the lender, global economic growth will slow this year to 3.2%. It's a downgrade from the Fund's projection in April, and much lower than last year's expansion of more than 6%. For more on global economy, we spoke to David Madden, who is a market analyst at Equiti Capital in London. #IMF #GlobalEconomy #GrowthProspects
Oil prices are advancing this morning after US President Joe Biden wrapped up a landmark visit to the Middle East without a firm commitment from key producer Saudi Arabia to boost crude supplies. Meanwhile, EU investors are still worried about the resumption of gas supplies from Russia, after Kremlin-controlled Gazprom said it could not guarantee the safe operation of a critical part of the pipeline that runs under the Baltic sea to Germany because of doubts over the return of a turbine from Canada. We spoke to David Madden, who is a market analyst at Equiti Capital. #Biden #MiddleEast #Oil
Asia-Pacific markets are mostly higher this morning as investors watch for market reaction to the latest minutes from the US Federal Reserve. Central bank officials recognised that a "more restrictive stance" in policy could be suitable if inflation doesn't ease, even if it slows the economy. Fed officials also said a hike of 50 or 75 basis points would be likely at the July meeting. Meanwhile, oil prices extended declines for a third session on Thursday, with WTI slipping under $100 a barrel, as fears of a potential global recession spur concerns about oil demand. For more, we spoke to David Madden, who is a market analyst at Equiti Capital, in London. #FederalReserve #InterestRates #OilPrices
Russia has defaulted on its foreign debt for the first time since the 1917 revolution, according to reports. The country missed a deadline of Sunday night to meet a 30-day grace period on interest payments of $100M on two Eurobonds originally due on May 27. Some Taiwanese holders of Russian Eurobonds said on Monday that they had not received interest payments due. That's after Russia's attempts to pay in its ruble currency were blocked by international sanctions. Netflix is cutting hundreds of jobs as it seeks to streamline operations, in the face of tougher competition. The streaming giant says it's letting go of 300 people or about 4% of its workforce. Last month, the company fired 150 employees, shortly after reporting that it had lost subscribers for the first time in a decade. Earlier, carmaker Tesla said it would cut about 3.5% of its staff and Facebook-owner Meta will slow down hiring of new employees. For details, we spoke to David Madden, who is market analyst at Equiti Capital in London. #Layoffs #TechFirms #Netflix
Asian markets are rising after the largest Fed rate hike since 1994, with European markets set to join the global rally later on today. The Federal Reserve raised benchmark interest rates 75 basis points on Wednesday in a move that equates to the most aggressive hike in 29 years. This is as it is scrambling to contain a disruptive surge in inflation, which is proving much more difficult to tame than expected. Despite the big increase at this month's meeting, the Fed's chair Jerome Powell has indicated that he is not expecting moves of this size for at least the rest of the year. David Madden, who is Equiti Capital Market Analyst, joined us from London. #FederalReserve #JeromePowell #InterestRates
The World Bank has issued a dire warning: economies almost everywhere will slow down significantly this year. In its twice a year check-in, the multilateral lender slashed its global growth forecast to 2.9%. That's lower than the January prediction of more than 4%, and about half of last year's expansion. Officials describe this year's challenge as a 'perfect storm' caused by convergence of several dark clouds. For more on global economic outlook, Equiti Capital market analyst David Madden joined us from London. #WorldBank #GlobalEconomy #GrowthProspects
It's a bad start to the week for most consumers, as the price of oil climbed to its highest in about two months. The international crude benchmark Brent is back up above $120 a barrel. Asia-Pacific stocks are mixed this morning as the Bank of Korea announced a 25 basis points increase in its base rate to 1.75%, which is the central bank's second straight rate hike. The Korean exchange KOSPI is down 0.37%, but the Chinese Shanghai Composite, is up 0.44%. Oil prices extended gains on Friday but they are headed for their first weekly loss in three weeks. Investors are concerned that rising inflation and China's COVID lockdowns are slowing global growth. Equiti Capital market analyst, David Madden joined us from London. #OilPrices #Russia #OilEmbargo
The US Federal Reserve has raised its benchmark interest rate by half a percentage point. That's the biggest increase in more than two decades, as the American central bank tries to tame historic consumer price increases in the world's largest economy. That's not all. The Fed says it's also shrinking its balance sheet starting next month. It's selling government debt and mortgage-backed securities that it bought up during the pandemic. We spoke with David Madden, market analyst at Equiti Capital in London. He says US Federal Reserve is avoiding an overly hawkish stance to ensure a soft landing. #FederalReserve #InterestRates #Inflation
Oil prices are on track to decline for the third-consecutive week as concerns over global economic growth outweigh supply fears caused by the crisis in Ukraine. The international crude benchmark Brent is down 4% in the last seven days, and is now trading around $106 a barrel. Crude prices have already given up most of the gains made since the start of Russia's attack on its neighbour. We had David Madden, market analyst for Equiti Capital in London. He said that despite demand concerns, prices are likely to stay at higher levels in the medium to long term. #OilPrices #GlobalEconomicGrowth #Inflation
Oil prices are rising again despite a coordinated move by major economies to increase the supply of crude in the market. The International Energy Agency says its members are releasing a combined 60M barrels of crude from their stockpiles. It's on top of the 180M barrels that the US is taking out of storage over the next six months. Their decision is meant to bring down prices, as sanctions mount on Russia, the world's second-biggest exporter. But markets were not impressed. The international crude benchmark Brent has risen around 2%, with oil now trading at around $102 a barrel. David Madden is a market analyst at Equiti Capital and he joined us from London. #OilReserves #OilPrices #CrudeSupply
Oil prices fell by more than $5 a barrel on Thursday, on reports that US Preident Joe Biden could order the release of 180M barrels of oil from the country's strategic reserves. Brent is trading at around $107 a barrel and WTI at $101 a barrel, after slipping as low as $100. Concerns over supply constraints have also been eased due to a slowdown in China's industrial activity. Meanwhile, OPEC and its allies are convening today to discuss global oil supplies. The International Energy Agency and others have been calling on the cartel to raise output faster, to help rein in inflation. Equiti Capital market analyst. David Madden joined us to discuss the details. #OPEC #OilSupply #OilPrices

As the name suggest it is based on Flinders Island which is situated in the Bass Strait just off the northeast coast of Tasmania. As started, James is the CEO which makes him responsible for the day to day operations of the company. He oversees brand design, marketing and sales strategy, and production and process improvements. He was responsible for the purchase, renovation, and initial production of the company's abattoir on Flinders Island Flinders + Co started by using a direct distribution model into Victoria that has grown into a successful stand alone operation. In 2018 James changed the identity of the company from Flinders Island Meat to Flinders + Co (the reason why we will be discussing). In today's episode, we examine the interdependence between urban displacements, surplus populations and surplus capital in Susanne Soederberg's recent book “Urban Displacements. Governing Surplus and Survival in Global Capitalism” published in late 2020 with Routledge. We explore the links between surplus money and surplus workers, social and rental housing, precarious work and urban poverty under capitalism, but also the political role of state actors in the reproduction of surplus capital and surplus populations producing cycles of urban displacements. In mid-April, Germany's highest court ruled that a rent cap imposed by the Berlin state government is illegal. German federal court overturned the law, saying lawmakers in the state had no right to instigate it. We speak about rent control and the Berlin rent cap with Alexander Vasudevan, associate professor in human geography and fellow at Christ Church at the University of Oxford. He and David Madden co-authored a recent piece in the Guardian arguing that the Berlin law, though defeated in court, shows how to cool overheated markets.

This was one of my favourite episodes to date; David Madden, Co Founder and Director of MBM, one of the largest privately owned Quantity Surveying firms in Australia showcases how he took the business, with help from others, from 4 staff to over 100 and how they have stayed relevant and competitive in their 19 years in business. This episode is packed full of value for budding quantity surveyors, estimators and anyone else currently working in the construction industry who would classify themselves as "entrepreneurial". I found David to be humble, generous and always discussing his teams achievements other than his. It was a pleasure to have David on the show and we really hope you enjoy it! Pepper partner Gregory J. Nowak hosted an Investment Management Update webinar for West LegalEdcenter. Recent reports have noted that Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) have raised more investor capital than venture and angel investing combined since the beginning of 2017. The institutional investor community needs to understand this important new asset class. This month, Mr. Nowak was joined by David Madden, Director at Trident Trust Group, Tim Kuhman, General Counsel and VP of Compliance at Kingdom Trust and Tom Garrambone, Founding Partner at Tetras Capital, for a robust discussion on ICOs and the investments they spawn - what are they; what is the investment opportunity; can these be commingled in a fund; what are the risks to be aware of as an issuer, servicer, investor and exchange; and what have the SEC and other regulators âhad to say. This podcast is a recording of this session.

Llamarán a Jared Leto y a Will Smith como testigos???? Respeto a mis hermanos cineastas”. After years of being shut off to the world -- Myanmar is opening itself up. Not just across physical borders, but also the digital. What happens when the vast majority of a population suddenly has access to a cell phone, not to mention Facebook? How is technology manifesting itself in the media, in the economy and in the education of a population eager to use the tools it suddenly has access to? What can Myanmar teach the rest of the world about the opportunities that arise, and potential pitfalls, when a wave of new technology crashes down? Joining the discussion is David Madden from non-profit Internews and the founder of the brand-new Phandeeyar: Myanmar Innovation Lab; Aye Moah, founder of Silicon Valley-based startup Baydin (in photo); and Ethan Zuckerman director of the Center for Civic Media at MIT.
