Mais derrière cette apparente routine se cache une véritable stratégie politique, religieuse et symbolique.Tout commence au haut Moyen Âge. Les rois mérovingiens, puis carolingiens, portaient déjà des prénoms issus de leur lignée, mais c'est avec les Capétiens, à partir de 987, que s'installe une logique durable de recyclage dynastique des prénoms. Le but ? Ancrer le pouvoir dans la continuité. En répétant les mêmes noms, les rois affirment qu'ils sont les héritiers légitimes de leurs prédécesseurs et qu'ils incarnent une même autorité royale, au-delà des générations.Prenons Louis, par exemple. Ce prénom devient central après le règne de Louis IX, plus connu sous le nom de Saint Louis, canonisé en 1297. À partir de là, porter le nom de Louis, c'est revendiquer une dimension sacrée, presque divine, du pouvoir. C'est se présenter comme un roi pieux, juste, protecteur de la foi et du royaume. Il n'est donc pas étonnant que ce prénom ait été attribué à 18 rois de France.Charles renvoie quant à lui à Charlemagne (Carolus Magnus), figure fondatrice de la royauté chrétienne en Occident. Un roi nommé Charles invoque donc l'image d'un conquérant, d'un unificateur, d'un empereur. Ce n'est pas anodin si Charles VII est celui qui met fin à la guerre de Cent Ans, ou si Charles V est surnommé “le Sage”.Le prénom Philippe, popularisé par Philippe Auguste, roi capétien du XIIe siècle, connote l'autorité forte, la centralisation du pouvoir, et l'expansion du territoire royal. D'autres Philippe suivront, en écho à cette figure d'un roi bâtisseur.Quant à Henri, il s'impose à la Renaissance et renvoie à Henri IV, premier roi bourbon, artisan de la paix religieuse et du renouveau monarchique après les guerres de Religion. Là encore, reprendre son prénom, c'est s'inscrire dans cette image de réconciliation et de renouveau.Ce choix de prénoms n'a jamais été laissé au hasard. Il s'agissait d'une forme de “branding” royal avant l'heure, une signature politique destinée à rassurer le peuple et les élites : le roi qui monte sur le trône n'est pas un inconnu, c'est un nouveau chapitre d'une même histoire.Ainsi, la répétition des prénoms royaux en France n'est pas une routine, mais un acte de pouvoir. Face à la demande des forces de l'ordre de montrer leurs papiers, le couple répète inlassablement une même phrase “Je ne contracte pas”.  Derrière cette phrase se cache la mouvance des citoyens souverains, qui puise ses origines dans celles des Sovereign citizens, un phénomène qui serait apparu aux États-Unis dans les années 70 et qui ne reconnait pas l'État fédéral. L'expression “Je ne contracte pas” vient du fait que les citoyens souverains considèrent la France et d'autres pays comme n'étant pas des nations, mais des entreprises privées. Dans l'automobile, les têtes tombent les unes après les autres, un patron sur cinq a quitté son poste dans l'industrie automobile en un an. Ce n'est pas une statistique de start up en crise, c'est le bilan des plus grands groupes automobiles mondiaux. Le secteur vit une transformation d'une brutalité rare à l'extérieur : pression géopolitique avec Trump qui remet des tarifs douaniers à tout va et avec la Chine qui inonde le marché de voiture électrique beaucoup moins chères. Et puis, à l'intérieur, l'industrie se transforme en secteur technologique. Et tout le monde, en tout cas pas tous les PDG, n'ont le mode d'emploi. Stellantis, par exemple, a mis six mois à remplacer son ancien PDG. Les actionnaires ont envisagé à un moment donné de chercher des profils externes, y compris hors automobile. Mais, finalement, c'est un homme du sérail qui a été nommé. Chez Volvo, c'est encore plus clair. On a carrément rappelé l'ancien PDG de 64 ans. Le message subliminal est simple et limpide : dans la tempête, on préfère un vieux loup expérimenté à un jeune innovateur. La priorité, c'est la survie et pas les grandes idées. Le problème, c'est que cette prudence peut vite virer à l'immobilisme. Lynn Calder, la patronne d'Ineos Automotive, l'a dit franchement : si le secteur continue à tourner en vase clos, à refuser des profils venus d'ailleurs, ils courent tout droit vers l'inertie. Et puis, il y a la réalité du terrain. Les ventes dégringolent en Europe et aux Etats-Unis, les marges fondent comme neige au soleil et la compétition est devenue encore plus mondiale que par le passé. Résultat, les conseils d'administration cherchent des profils capables de survivre à un monde où vendre une voiture, ce n'est plus juste une affaire de design ou de moteur, c'est de la stratégie, de la technologie, de la géopolitique, du logiciel embarqué et même un peu de psychologie. Véritable pilier du comics américain des années 2000-2010, on lui doit des titres phares comme Ultimate Spider-Man, la création du célèbre Miles Morales, ou encore les grandes heures de Jessica Jones dans la série Alias. Il est reconnu pour sa capacité à donner vie à ses personnages à travers des dialogues réalistes et percutants. Plus surprenant : il est aussi le dessinateur de Torso, qu'il illustre dans un style brut, presque expressionniste, qui renforce l'ambiance oppressante du récit. De son côté, Marc Andreyko, co-auteur de Torso, est peut-être un peu moins médiatisé, mais tout aussi talentueux. Scénariste engagé, notamment en faveur de la cause LGBT+, il est l'auteur de titres marquants comme Manhunter chez DC Comics ou l'anthologie Love is Love, publiée en hommage aux victimes de la tuerie d'Orlando. Entre 1934 et 1938, un tueur en série inconnu enlève des personnes défavorisées issues des bidonvilles, avant de disséminer des fragments de corps un peu partout dans la ville. La presse le surnommera le Cleveland Torso Murderer. Peu avant le début de ces crimes, Eliot Ness est nommé chef de la sécurité de la ville, chargé de superviser la police et les pompiers. Rapidement, le tueur s'amuse à le provoquer, allant jusqu'à déposer des cadavres à quelques mètres de son domicile. C'est cette traque haletante que Bendis et Andreyko mettent en scène dans leur roman graphique noir. Un contexte social lourdLa grande dépression frappe de plein fouet les États-Unis. Cleveland est envahie par des milliers de personnes à la recherche de travail. Beaucoup s'entassent dans des bidonvilles improvisés, qui deviennent le terrain de chasse du tueur. Sur la dizaine de meurtres, la police ne parviendra à identifier que deux victimes. Leurs histoires, comme celles des autres, restent largement méconnues. Pierre Loti, l'auteur à succès de « Pêcheur d'Islande » écrit : « Partout nous broyons à coups de mitraille les civilisations différentes de la nôtre, que nous dédaignons a priori sans rien y comprendre, parce qu'elles sont moins pratiques, moins utilitaires et moins armées. Et, à notre suite, quand nous avons fini de tuer, toujours nous apportons l'exploitation sans frein … » A sa mort, douze ans plus tard, le 10 juin 1923, la presse rend hommage à l'homme couvert de gloire que fut Loti : académicien, candidat sérieux au prix Nobel, on salue aussi l'officier de marine en retraite qui, tout de même, voulu se rendre au front lors de la Grande Guerre. Et encore et toujours on le compare à un prince de l'exotisme, on se répand sur les décors extravagants de sa maison de Rochefort, dans le sud-ouest de la France, on évoque les fêtes dignes des Mille et Une Nuits qu'il y donnait. Et puis on rappelle l'origine du pseudonyme que prit, autrefois, le jeune Julien Viaud : c'était par une belle nuit étoilée des mers du Sud, nommé Loti par les suivantes de la reine de Tahiti, Pomaré IV . Mais de sa carrière littéraire de « Reporter », peu se souviennent. Sur les pistes de cet African techno, Anass Zine et Arthur Péneau, chanteurs-instrumentistes au gumbri, à l'oud et à la kora électrique, embarquent Did Miosine aux machines pour un trip envoûtant aux confins du Maghreb. Derrière les voix enchanteresses ou rugissantes, l'appel à la danse se fait par les rythmes et les soubresauts ternaires baignés d'électro. Ça tourne jusqu'à s'étourdir, ça bouillonne et tourbillonne dans des transes infinies aux échos d'Orient et aux grooves apatrides.L'histoire : Anass Zine et Arthur Peneau se rencontrent en 2019 à Marseille ; ils commencent à travailler un premier répertoire en duo sous le nom de Zar Electrik. Durant le confinement de 2020, ils rencontrent Didier Simione et l'intègre au projet comme beatmaker. Grâce à quelques concerts et des vidéos postés sur internet en 2021, ils rencontrent Lamastrock, la structure de production et d'accompagnement d'artistes, qui leur propose une collaboration.Avec près de 60 concerts en 2022 et des dates importantes, le trio obtient fin 2022 le Prix des Musiques d'ici.Une tournée en Algérie a été réalisée début 2023 et la rencontre avec les publics algériens a été exceptionnelle. Des dates en Italie, Belgique, Canada et France pour une année 2023 qui compte également une soixantaine de concerts, dont de belles dates parisiennes (Pan Piper, Cabaret Sauvage, Maison des Métallos, Le Point Fort… ). L'année 2023 voit également la sortie de leur premier EP Hawa, chez le label français Jarring Effects. Fin 2023, la participation de Zar Electrik au Mundial Montréal s'est soldée par un très beau succès et les portes du marché nord-américain se sont ouvertes. De nouvelles collaborations sont actées avec une agence américaine, AliaProd pour Usa-Canada, Crossover-frequencies pour la Suède, la Norvège, le Danemark et Musicastrada pour l'Italie. Le groupe a été invité en janvier 2025 pour un Tiny Desk NPR. L'année 2025 devrait compter plus de 60 concerts en France et à l'international avec notamment des tournées aux USA, Canada et une présence accrue sur les gros festivals européens comme Le Paléo en Suisse, Colors of Ostrava en République Tchèque, le FMM Sines au Portugal, Simo festival en Belgique, LesSuds en France. A YOUNG British woman is in a Sri Lankan jail, accused of trying to smuggle a disturbing new drug called kush into the country.   Kush comes from West Africa, where it's reportedly the cause of about a dozen overdose deaths a week in Sierra Leone. It's made of synthetic cannabis, opioids—and, reportedly, ground human bone. The accused woman, 21-year-old Charlotte May of South London, was stopped at the airport in Colombo, Sri Lanka with 100 pounds of kush in her luggage with a street value of about $3.3 million. May claims she doesn't know how it got into her bags. We make no judgment on Ms. May; it's possible she was an unwitting drug mule. What's disturbing about this story is that human bones are reportedly incorporated into this drug, and that it's apparently being shipped around the world. We also discuss a recent case from South Africa, where a woman and two accomplices were sentenced to life in prison this week for selling her then-6-year-old daughter for $1,100 last year to a traditional healer who wanted to harvest the girl's skin and eyes—green, a relative rarity in South Africa—for ritual purposes. The world is returning to pre-Christian paganism at the same time it's drawing closer to World War 3. Early this week, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz declared that the US, UK, and Germany has removed all restrictions on how weapons supplied to Ukraine can be used in NATO's proxy war with Russia. This has not been confirmed by the United States or United Kingdom, and even Germany's own Defense Ministry has not confirmed the change in how its missiles can be used. However, it seems that Europe's Big Three—Germany, France, and the UK—are bound and determined to provoke open war with Russia, and top drag the United States into it whether the American people want it or not.  In our view, this is the work of principalities and powers behind the scenes trying to set the stage for the emergence of a false savior, the Antichrist. Two deeply disturbing cases in France have reignited national debate about how the justice system handles sexual violence. In December last year, Dominique Pelicot was found guilty of repeatedly drugging and raping his wife while she was unconscious and inviting other men to do the same. This week, Joël Le Scouarnec, a retired surgeon, was sentenced to a maximum of 20 years in jail for sexually abusing almost 300 people, mostly children. His victims have spoken out against this sentence and lawyers have called for a change in the law. Jessica Creighton is joined by Blandine Deverlanges, a feminist activist and the Founder of Les Amazones d'Avignon, and BBC correspondent Hugh Schofield to discuss the situation. Three-time Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan, known for roles in films such as Maestro, Promising Young Woman and Suffragette, returns to our cinema screens in the comedy drama The Ballad of Wallis Island. Full Text of ReadingsFriday of the Sixth Week of Easter Lectionary: 295The Saint of the day is Saint Joan of ArcSaint Joan of Arc's Story Burned at the stake as a heretic after a politically-motivated trial, Joan was beatified in 1909 and canonized in 1920. Born of a fairly well-to-do peasant couple in Domremy-Greux southeast of Paris, Joan was only 12 when she experienced a vision and heard voices that she later identified as Saints Michael the Archangel, Catherine of Alexandria, and Margaret of Antioch. During the Hundred Years War, Joan led French troops against the English and recaptured the cities of Orléans and Troyes. This enabled Charles VII to be crowned as king in Reims in 1429. Captured near Compiegne the following year, Joan was sold to the English and placed on trial for heresy and witchcraft. Professors at the University of Paris supported Bishop Pierre Cauchon of Beauvis, the judge at her trial; Cardinal Henry Beaufort of Winchester, England, participated in the questioning of Joan in prison. In the end, she was condemned for wearing men's clothes. The English resented France's military success–to which Joan contributed. On this day in 1431, Joan was burned at the stake in Rouen, and her ashes were scattered in the Seine River. A second Church trial 25 years later nullified the earlier verdict, which was reached under political pressure. Remembered by most people for her military exploits, Joan had a great love for the sacraments, which strengthened her compassion toward the poor. Popular devotion to her increased greatly in 19th-century France and later among French soldiers during World War I. Theologian George Tavard writes that her life “offers a perfect example of the conjunction of contemplation and action” because her spiritual insight is that there should be a “unity of heaven and earth.” Joan of Arc has been the subject of many books, plays, operas and movies. Reflection “Joan of Arc is like a shooting star across the landscape of French and English history, amid the stories of the Church's saints and into our consciousness. Women identify with her; men admire her courage. She challenges us in fundamental ways.
