But was she truly possessed, or suffering from schizophrenia? Or maybe something more sinister?*No AI Voices Are Used In The Narration Of This Podcast*PARANORMAL PUNK SONGS BASED ON THIS EPISODE: https://weirddarkness.com/music-annelieseIN THIS EPISODE: IN THIS EPISODE: Most horror film fans will either have seen or at least know about the 2005 movie, “The Exorcism of Emily Rose”. The story follows a woman who acts as a kind of defense attorney for a priest who is on trial for murder after a girl dies when he performs an exorcism on her. The film is loosely… very loosely… based on a real story of a girl named Anneliese Michel, who so demonically possessed, that in the span of just ten months she forced to endure 67 exorcisms. (The 67 Exorcisms of Anneliese Michel) *** Ever since the beginning of the 16th century, Penkaet Castle has been the scene of a number of unexplained mysteries – and people who visited this old lonely Scottish castle have had some terrifying experiences. (The Peculiar Happenings at Penkaet Castle) *** When they knock on your door and say, “Let us in” or “We need to use the phone” – do not let them through the door if you notice their eyes are completely black. I'm talking about black-eyed children. Have you ever wondered what happens if they do get through the door? The answer is not pretty. (What Happens When You Let a Black-Eyed-Kid Inside Your House?) *** Is it possible that a tribe in the Amazon found a way to travel to another dimension thousands of years ago – and still do so today, through something called DMT? (The DMT Mystery) *** Why do ghosts haunt us? Author and researcher Brian Haughton has a few thoughts and the subject and takes us through a short history of ghostly folklore, and some theories as to why there are hauntings in the first place. (Ghosts and Folklore) *** Things begin to feel or sound wrong. You feel you are the size of a mouse, or the size of a mountain – or the objects you are looking at are the wrong size. The whole concept of time might become meaningless and confusing to you. You'll have no way to control it, your doctor won't be able to help, and you'll never see it coming. With a name like Alice in Wonderland Syndrome, it might sound harmless, but once you hear what it is, you'll hope or your children never get it. Who had a stronger claim to the English throne than Henry VII? When Henry Tudor took the crown on the battlefield at Bosworth, his hereditary claim was fragile. Eighteen Plantagenet descendants had a more legitimate right to rule, while pretenders Lambert Simnel and Perkin Warbeck kept the Tudor court under constant threat. Popular "Garage County" singer-songwriter Aubrie Sellers joins Music Matters host Darrell Craig Harris for a fun episode talking about her new singer and her new album "Attachment Theory" in this new episode! About Aubrie Sellers "I feel like I'm film in a digital world," says 27-year-old singer-songwriter Aubrie Sellers. "There are so many slick, clean-sounding records that are designed for quick consumption, but that's not me. I make dirty, grungy-sounding records, and the emotions spill all over the place. They're messy at times, but I find beauty in that." For anybody who's ever felt as if they didn't quite fit in, Sellers' masterful second album, Far From Home, the follow-up to her sensational debut, New City Blues, is essential listening. Sonically, it's a sweeping, epic vision made manifest in crushing, amp-busting guitar rock - Sellers once dubbed this sound "garage country" - and delicate yet shattering widescreen ballads that form compelling frameworks for her angelic voice to take flight. One might assume that such fulsome musical expressions could only come from a grand extrovert, but Sellers reveals the deep-seated anxieties that lie beneath the surface - and how writing the album proved cathartic. Starting over can feel heartbreaking and overwhelming, especially after losing a loved one, and the idea of rebuilding a life can seem impossible. In this episode, Stanley and Geri show us that sometimes moving forward isn't about letting go of the past, but learning to carry it with you in a way that allows life to continue. Stanley Tucci speaks with brave honesty about the death of his first wife, Kate – the guilt he felt as he tried to move on and the difficult choices he faced while creating a new life for his children. Geri Halliwell Horner reflects on losing her father as a teenager, how that loss shaped her ambition and how writing her novel unexpectedly helped her make sense of long‑held grief. This episode explores love, loss and the resilience that allows us to keep going after such events. I hope it brings you a sense of solidarity or confirmation that we don't need to erase what came before; sometimes, it becomes the very force that helps us begin again. UNC's season came crashing down in historic fashion on Thursday night. Since then, there's been an overwhelming amount of speculation about Hubert Davis' future in Chapel Hill. With how the season ended and how the past five years have transpired, the UNC fanbase has been fractured and frustrated. The common theme is the desire for North Carolina to return to elite status and do so as quickly as possible with the ever changing world of college athletics. Sean Moran and Sherrell McMillan join Joey Powell to give a post mortem on the season and reassess where Carolina Basketball goes now in what will be a mercurial offseason. If you've spent any time on social media recently, you've probably come across a video of a young, square-jawed influencer calling himself Clavicular. He has become the face of an internet subculture called looksmaxxing, in which men do almost anything — like taking steroids and hormones or bashing their jaws with a hammer — to try to become more handsome. In this episode, Natalie Kitroeff talks with reporter Joseph Bernstein about the world of looksmaxxing and how what might seem like a fringe phenomenon is actually the culmination of a digital culture that rewards physical perfection with status and algorithmic power. On Today's Episode Joseph Bernstein covers digital subcultures for the Styles desk at The New York Times. **Content Warning: This episode contains discussions of homicides, suicide and torture** This week we're back in spooky Appalachia to explore a haunted attraction that might be a little too real. Sitting on 20 acres of a former Tennessee plantation is Frightmare Manor. The haunt's story centers on Jeremiah Lexer, the former plantation owner who was secretly a serial killer, the shocking 1902 axe murders that exposed his crimes, and a pit of bodies believed to hold dozens of missing locals. It's a dark legend that raises a bit of an eyebrow when you realize it's now being used as entertainment. Today the property is one of the country's most popular haunted attractions, with a challenge so intense that almost no one completes it. Yet staff and visitors report shadow figures, strange noises, moving objects, and a man carrying an axe in the manor windows. So we have to wonder… are the scares just part of the show, or is something else haunting Frightmare Manor? From crying in closets after school and surviving chaotic first-year classroom management, to learning boundaries, routines, and how to stop taking student behavior personally, this episode is packed with stories every educator will recognize. The trio shares their real experiences navigating everything from preschool bathroom protocols and late-night grading sessions to difficult parents, classroom systems, safe spaces, and the emotional weight teachers carry while still showing up for students. They also dive into the difference between trying to be the "cool teacher" versus becoming the consistent teacher, and why veteran educators know that structure, reflection, and relationships matter more than perfection. Welcome to Databank Brawl Rewind! Databank Brawl was a series that ran on ForceCenter from 2016 to 2020, and it remains one of our more beloved shows. Though Databank Brawl is on hiatus, we wanted to celebrate it along with longtime listeners of the podcast and reintroduce it to the ForceCenter listeners who began listening to the podcast after the end of the show's run. Though all of the episodes remain on our podcast feed, it can be daunting to scroll back and find them, so we're launching Databank Rewind. Here's your chance to go back to those episodes week by week and laugh with us at old jokes, memorable moments, unforgettable guests, and, yeah, old microphones, recordings, and perhaps some Star Wars predictions that came true alongside many that most certainly did not. Databank Brawl -- where Star Wars characters are plucked from the entries of the StarWars.com databank and forced to fight it out in an off-the-cuff podcast moderated by Joseph Scrimshaw. It's time to fight...From the minds of Ken Napzok (comedian, host of The Napzok Files), Joseph Scrimshaw (comedian, writer, director of Dead Media), and Jennifer Landa (actress, YouTuber, crafter, contributor on StarWars.com) comes the ForceCenter Podcast Feed. Here you will find a series of shows exploring, discussing, and celebrating everything about Star Wars. Subscribe on Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts. Losing my dog, Lala, has been one of the hardest things I've ever faced. As a diagnosed narcissist, I'm giving you an inside look at how I used to process grief versus how I'm handling it now. For years, therapy has been about stripping away the armor, and nothing tests that work like the loss of a "soul dog."Lala was a Jackabee (Jack Russell & Beagle mix) who taught me more about unconditional love than most people ever could. Today, I'm being honest about the "Narcissistic Numbness" I used to feel and the visceral pain I'm feeling now. If you've ever wondered if a narcissist can truly love a pet, or how therapy actually changes the way we feel, this video is for you.IN THIS VIDEO:The Old Me vs. The New Me: How I would have "minimized" this loss 5 years ago.The "Supply" Trap: Why pets are often the only creatures a narcissist feels safe being vulnerable with.Therapy in the Raw: The specific work I've done to sit with grief instead of running from it.Lala's Legacy: Honoring the Jackabee who helped me become more human.Connect with Lee:My Courses: https://courses.mentalhealness.net 1-on-1 Coaching Calls: https://link.me/mentalhealnessAll My Link: https://beacons.page/mentalhealness Follow on Instagram/TikTok: @mentalhealnesssIf this episode helped you gain clarity, please leave a 5-star review on Spotify! This week, in Pembroke, New York, a man is found walking the streets, covered in blood, wearing all camoflauge, with a white hood. He's also carrying a large lug wrench & other odd objects, but he refuses to tell police why is so bloody. This man also happens to be a major party's candidate for the upcoming mayoral election. This all leads to finding another man is found in frozen pools of blood, in his own driveway... who happens to be the possible future mayor's business partner. Some strange evidence leads to a crazy court case, and even crazier election!! Along the way, we find out that corrections officers can be as crime ridden as criminals, that when you're covered in blood, in public, you should probably have an excuse ready to go, and that before you vote for a mayor, you should really do a deep dive on whether, or not he's a murderer!! In the age of TikTok and Polymarket, it can be easy to overlook the humble book. But books are one of the most influential technologies ever invented. From “The Wealth of Nations” to “Das Kapital,” books have the power to shape whole economic systems… and everything else in our world. The market for books can determine which ideas make it to the masses. So when Planet Money was approached to make its own book, not only did it present an opportunity to spread the gospel of whimsical economic infotainment to new audiences everywhere, but it also presented an opportunity to get a rare peek behind the curtain of the notoriously opaque world of publishing. On today's episode, the first chapter in our series on the making of a book: Planet Money sets out to land a book deal. We enter the high stakes, high school drama of the publishing industry, where literary agents try to woo powerful book editors. And we learn what happens when lofty artistic ideals meet the cold logic of the market. It's a courtship dance with millions of dollars potentially on the line. There will be whale fights, corporate speed dating, and a literary shotgun wedding.Live event info and tickets here. Tim discusses the online rumor that Benjamin Netanyahu is no longer alive, watches Pete Hegseth try to explain the war in Iran, reads about a homeless man who fought a Waymo, tells Americans to stop traveling during the TSA shutdown, and listens to Donald Trump talk about taking Cuba. Live Dates:
This week: The war in Iran has caused a dramatic spike in global oil prices. Felix Salmon, Elizabeth Spiers, and Emily Peck discuss the international repercussions of the oil shortage and how central banks are responding. And: With the dust settling on the Paramount-Warner Brothers deal (including a $700 million payout to David Zaslav for some reason), the biggest loser in the megamerger might be HBO. The hosts discuss how billionaire dealmaking and rebrand fatigue is hurting the network's reputation for edgy, prestige TV. And later: Reuters published a very long story “revealing” Banksy's real name—which, Felix will tell you, has been public knowledge since 2008. So what was the point? In the Slate Plus episode: Claude is not an accountant. Want to hear that discussion and hear more Slate Money? Join Slate Plus to unlock weekly bonus episodes. This Supreme Court term has seen threats against the Justices – from the President, a slew of game-changing shadow docket opinions, justices sparring in public, and some of the most consequential cases of our lifetimes. If you're feeling a little disoriented by it all, join Dahlia Lithwick and Mark Joseph Stern on this week's show for a clearer understanding of what's going on at One, First Street. They discuss the big immigration case the court took up just this week that will be crammed into the last week of arguments, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson's courage at a public event, and what it means when a justice steps out of the four corners of her opinions to voice urgent concerns about the shadow docket in public, and why, when it comes to threats to judges, the Chief Justice is meekly asking Trump knock it off, while taking no responsibility for his court's role in it all.
