He refused to promote her studio and she was blacklisted from the Bikram Yoga community. At the time of the s*xual assault, Bikram had already personally approved her studio down to the floor plan and knew that Larissa had begun negotiating a lease, retained a contractor and took out thousands of dollars in debt to open the studio.

You might have heard the story of infamous yoga teacher Bikram Choudhury attempting to host yoga training workshops in Canada earlier this year. You might have even listened to last week's podcast episode, which was a replay of Shannon Crow's Connected Yoga Teacher Podcast live episode that I was involved in. And you also might be wondering what is happening now. The truth: not too much. But that doesn't need to necessarily be the case. The news cycle for all of us is short, our attention is even shorter, and it is really easy to push uncomfortable topics into the background. To me, this is too important to just let it be pushed aside. Women who sign up for Bikram's trainings all over the world are not safe, this can be said with certainty. So now what? This episode will give you an update, but also call you to help us do some much needed behind-the-scenes work to keep women safe in our YTT spaces. This will also serve to support and nourish all of us as we go through the uncomfortable growth phase of becoming a more whole and professional industry. KEY TAKEAWAYS 1. Organizing is hard work, and while it is great & important to say "hurray" when we win a victory, the true work of social change happens in the quiet moments, the slow times, and behind the scenes. Don't forget to check in with your favorite causes even when they aren't actively campaigning. 2. Weather you agree or not, we are all in the same yoga industry. The language that seeks to create divisiveness is dangerous, no matter what side of the argument that person might be on. Use better language, and go find your favorite person who teaches yoga in a different methodology from you and take them out for tea. Getting to know others in our field is *vital* to our survival. 3. We need to hold our leadership organizations accountable for their position within our industry. Sign our change.org petition to demand the Yoga Alliance state publicly they have no confidence in the safety of participants of Bikram Choudhury's yoga teacher training programs. Make them say it loud enough that it is the first thing that pop's up on a Google search about Bikram yoga teacher training. In February of 2023 there was an event that was created in Vancouver, Canada advertising that convicted predator, Bikram Choudhury, was to come to Canada to teach hot yoga workshops. Many yoga professionals, myself very much included, thought this was a bad idea. We know from countless accounts of survivors that have been documented in books, podcasts, and documentary films, that Bikram is an unsafe individual to teach yoga to young women. It is irresponsible for us to not raise a fuss about him teaching yoga to young women. Women who are being sent to his training by trusted mentors and teachers. Women are then funneled into his close circle by teacher trainers within the program. This is a clear funnel of abuse (that ironically looks a whole lot like a marketing funnel) and many of us organized together to stop him from coming to teach in Canada. This podcast is that story. On February 8th Shannon Crow from the Connected Yoga Teacher Podcast, Colin Hall from the Yoga History Podcast, and I all got together and recorded this LIVE, with lots of friends and supporters on the call. What followed was the subsequent cancellation of Bikram from teaching in Canada (win), and the reminder to us all that he is still out there teaching and potentially abusing women in the context of being a yoga teacher and yoga professional (grim reality). So this week is that replay of the live call, and next week I will be updating everyone about what is happening now. KEY TAKEAWAYS: organizing works. following the money is the fastest way to see a result from your organizing, so if you are looking to take action on a cause that is important to you--look to the money first. It is likely the fastest way to your goal Public accountability organizations, like the media, are your friends. Don't hesitate to reach out to them as ask for assistance in bringing more light to a subject We all hold responsibility within the yoga professional arena to make sure that our participants are safe. This is not just a "them" problem. We are all responsible for the health, safety, and overall well-being of those people who would call themselves students of yoga. Make friends in your activism journey. Find other people who are just as passionate about a cause as you and team up. It makes the job less daunting and more palatable. Hot yoga tycoon and sex offender Bikram Choudhury was set to teach his sweaty pseudoscience in Vancouver starting on February 20th. But a team of yoga allies, led by a woman who has sued Choudhury for rape, said "Fuck off." So that's that.Or is it? We have many questions. Why was this cursed event planned in the first place? Who on earth is continuing to support this clown, and trying to make money off of him? Who would cover themselves in sweaty shit in order to prop up this Simpsons-level caricature of a yoga megalomaniac? And how did Bikram Yoga become the de facto exercise method and spiritual practice of "Freedom Convoy" supporters?Matthew takes a sweaty tour through a land of pseudoscience and rape culture, hot yogis and truckers, anti-vaxxers and frog-lickers to find out.Big thank you to Colin Hall of Bodhi Tree Yoga for stopping by! Bikram Choudhury was the founder of the wildly popular hot yoga practice that many considered to cure ailments, detoxify bodies, and change lives. At the height in 2006, there were 1,650 studios in at least 40 countries, but by 2013, a series of allegations surfaced when one by one, women stepped forward with accusations that included sexual assault, rape, and abuse against the man revered as a guru. A series of 26 different postures awaits you, from the eagle to the triangle to the half moon, interspersed with two breathing exercises, essential if you care at all about your lungs. Behind you, you feel a man coming and going, dressed only in a tight black bathing suit and the golden Rolex on his wrist. His voice penetrates you, guiding your every move, and everyone around you obeys him. Before you, celebrities like George Harrison, Frank Sinatra or Madonna have practiced his “hot yoga”, a practice that supposedly cures everything: arthritis, lumbago, heart problems... Chadd was an early student of Bikram Choudhury, a once-famous yoga teacher who is now on the run from Interpol, and Chadd discusses the process of evolving from these Bikram days. He discussed the natural questioning that starts to happen as we gain more awareness, and how to teach yoga classes while allowing people to freely express their version of a yoga pose In this episode, Heather and Chadd discuss: Longevity, recovery and resilience Magical thinking, cult-like mentality and getting caught up in things Yoga gurus who put themselves on a pedestal Propaganda about how the body is supposed to move Falling under the spell of a teacher Sweating and detoxification How to stop taking what people say at face value and do your own inner work The importance of peeking under the hood and studying cadavers when you are leading movement and doing healing work How political beliefs impact how our bodies move How to disrupt thinking through a movement class How people's bodies are changing and how their treating their bodies differently in the pandemic How masks have become a physical feedback loop that caused many people to pay more attention to their breathing Chadd Schaefer is the co-owner of Body Temp Yoga in San Francisco, CA and began teaching hot yoga back in 2001. Kelly Thiel is a highly sought-after speaker and consultant to families and organizations regarding high-demand groups, cults, and narcissistic personalities. She is dedicated to helping people reclaim their freedom and begin their own healing journeys. Kelly has experience as a member of the Executive Success Program/NXIVM, a high-demand group whose leader was convicted of federal crimes, including sex trafficking. Kelly was also featured with Rachel in the STARZ documentary Seduced: Inside The NXIVM Cult. Her involvement with NXIVM led her to study other high-demand groups and cults of personality like Bhagwan Shri Rajneesh (Osho) and Bikram Choudhury. Her lifelong journey and personal experience as a seeker of human potential and spirituality taught her to identify the many methods used by high-demand groups, cults of personality, and narcissists to attract, indoctrinate, and control their followers and people in their circle of influence. She understands how to identify the red flags, suggest a course of action, and recommend professional resources for interventions to help affected families and organizations. Kelly is set to release her first book this year, “Unapologetically Glorious”, inspiring others to be their own guru and to take ownership, take action and take back control. In this intimate and bravely vulnerable conversation, Kelly shares invaluable insight into her time in NXIVM. She outlines the dangerous and traumatic "Exploration of Meaning"sessions she witnessed and experienced herself as a member of the "Executive Success Program" Throughout the conversation Rachel gives Kelly the opportunity to reexamine her impressions of the NXIVM community in retrospect. Kelly explains the relationship dynamics she had with the leaders, some of whom are now serving prison time for their roles in the group. Finally, Kelly explains the gradual shift away from the group and the catalyst that ultimately led to her freedom. Before You Go: Rachel addresses some of the red flags that are heavily pronounced in the inflated egos of narcissistic leaders like Keith Ranerie, reflecting on the epic hypocrisy of their demand for accountability. In this episode, I chat with Academy and Emmy Award-winning film producer and director EVA ORNER, whose incredible works include “Bikram: Yogi, Guru, Predator” on Netflix, “Burning” on Amazon Prime, "Chasing Asylum," "Out of Iraq," "Taxi to the Dark Side" (she won an Oscar for producing this), and "Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson." Listen as Eva shares some fascinating details about the making of her amazing documentary, "Burning," which takes an unflinching look at the unprecedented and catastrophic Australian bushfires of 2019-2020, known as ‘Black Summer.' The film tackles the climate crisis head-on and leaves viewers longing for and demanding political change. Watch "Burning" on Amazon Prime now. There's a link to the film and the trailer below. Australian filmmaker Eva Orner has turned her eye on a range of complicated topics in her documentaries: from asylum seekers to Bikram Choudhury. Her latest work, Burning, takes viewers into Australia's Black Summer and looks at both the fires themselves and the broader story of climate change in Australia.

Erin and Amanda are back, and cults have not improved while they were away! Today we examine MOVE, a '70s-era group that some might describe as The Cult Philadelphia Deserved. It was certainly better than former mayor and lifelong shithead Frank Rizzo deserved, but that's not saying a lot. You'd think literally anyone going toe to toe with Rizzo would come out looking better, but cult leader John Africa ... had some problems of his own. These problems would become an entire neighborhood's problems and would fuck up everything for a lot of people for coming up on 50 years now. Meanwhile in California, skeezy shithead Bikram Choudhury heated a room up to 104 degrees and cooked up a little project called Bikram Yoga! It's great for him because he gets to shriek at people like an infant because he thinks they're fat, and also he gets to sexually harass women and charge people a lot of money for it! Literally zero downside on this one. Join us, won't you?
Today the Bewitches cover yoga with a spiritual twist. Krista sets the record straight on the Yogi Maharishi Mahesh, the founder of the Transcendental Meditation Movement Movement (TMM). Once a confidant to the Beatles the yogi was criticized for only befriending The Beatles for fame. However, the band's time in India and practice of TMM may have given creative birth to their acclaimed White Album. Amy brings the heat covering Bikram Choudhury, a womanizer and massagynist who is still a fugitive after a major fraud case. Today, more than half of Choudhury's studios either closed or dropped "Bikram" from their name.
Misty Rosas is the multi-talented artist who brought #TheMandalorian's #Kuiil and Frog Lady to life. She is a singer, dancer, actor, performance artist, motion capture artist, championship gymnast and stunt person. You've seen her in #Congo as Amy the ape, Sid the Science Kid and Gonzon from Muppet Babies. Most importantly, she is an inspiration and an amazing talent.@MissMistyRosasMistyRosas.comYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjmQsmwKGJvzxbgZj6rRsGwwww.ATGcast.comPatreon.com/ATGcastTwitter.com/ATGcastInstagram.com/ATGcastFacebook.com/ATGcastTikTok.com/ATGcastMisty Rosas, a rare, one of a kind, multitalented artist. Her artistic endeavors are broad and varied, but one thing is for certain, whatever she chooses to do, she puts her whole heart and soul into it!Misty's career began when she took her first gymnastics class at the age of 2 1/2. She loved it so much it was difficult to get her to leave at the end of the session. "There were tears involved!" Her gymnastics career spanned 17 years, and was highlighted when Misty was chosen to join the U.S. National Gymnastics Team as an Elite gymnast. Throughout this period, Misty continued to study dance, especially ballet, as an integral part of her gymnastics training. She combined her dance and performance skills to land her first professional job at age 18. She was hired to perform in a succession of Disney stage productions including, "Fantasmic!", "The Lion King Parade", and "The Very Merry Christmas Parade". "I love to dance, and getting the opportunity to be Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, and a dancing monkey (in "Fantasmic!"), was a wonderful job!" When Misty moved to Los Angeles, she began training at the Edge Performing Arts Center for dance, vocal studies with John Deaver, and acting classes at the Henke Acting Studio. It was there that Misty first heard the quote that has guided her efforts ever since, "Luck happens when opportunity meets preparation".Misty landed her first major film role as the lead ape character, Amy, in the Paramount Pictures movie "Congo". This "break of a lifetime" thrust her career full speed ahead. "It was such a thrilling adventure!" The ”Congo" experience felt like an advanced and accelerated course in acting, learning and understanding blocking, acting to multiple camera angles, and of course, learning how to feel, breathe, and be a gorilla. To be quite honest, I was very overwhelmed and I struggled a lot at first, but it was a tremendous opportunity, so I worked very hard, and everyday I went into the work with this intention, “I will never give up!” This was also the point where Misty developed the ability to work "blind". The ape head was animatronic, designed with no accommodation for vision, so Misty had to memorize her physical position within the set, and in relation to that of the other actors, in order to make it appear that she was comfortably "looking" through Amy's eyes. Misty was under the tutelage of renowned movement artists and character actors, Peter Elliot and John Alexander. The techniques she learned enabled her to book several more jobs in partnership with the Stan Winston Studios (now named Legacy Effects). Misty considers her long-standing and rewarding relationship with Legacy Effects, to be one of the lynchpins of her success. It was during the filming of "Congo" that Misty began to perform stunts. Her height and gymnastics abilities led to an ongoing inventory of stunt roles. Her stunts have been featured in dozens of films and television episodes including, "Van Helsing", "Casper: A Spirited Beginning", "Casper & Wendy" (stunt doubling Hillary Duff), "Three Kings", "Charlie Wilson's War", America's Most Wanted, Rescue 911, Sliders, and Boston Legal "I got to tackle William Shatner, Woohoo!". While working on the enormous sets of "Van Helsing", Misty added wire work and fire burns to her growing list of stunt skills. "It was radical!.......TOASTY!"In 2002, Misty began her very successful association with the Jim Henson Company. First, in the Disney movie "The Country Bears", and since then in a number of realtime Computer Generated (CG) animation projects. These performances include the title roles of Sid, in the PBS series "Sid the Science Kid", and T.J. in "T.J. Bearytales", and most recently, the Jim Henson Company/Netflix collaboration “Word Party”. Misty is the motion capture/body performer for the lovable, yet feisty and irreverent character, Lulu. In preparing for "The Country Bears", "I took the skills I learned from "Congo" and "Instinct", and then was taught, by Michelan Sisti, the techniques needed to perform the character of Beary. It was different from my previous experience, so Micha spent a great deal of time patiently working with me to develop my skills. Acting in “The Country Bears" movie gave Misty the opportunity to meet Brian Henson. "Brian invited me to work on a Muppet Babies test shoot with Micha. It was my first Motion Capture (mocap) experience. WOW!, it was humbling! I had the hardest time finding the virtual camera! Micha kept pointing at the camera-like red lights 15 feet above me, all around me, saying, "Find your eye lines by looking at those", and I said, “I don't understand? What camera? There is no camera? Where? The work in the motion capture space is both mentally and physically grueling! You cannot lose your concentration ever! Again, I was very lucky to have Micha there, teaching me his craft.” Misty soon mastered these techniques and continues to deliver fantastic, endearing performances with each opportunity that is presented to her.Star Wars: The Mandalorian. Misty's most recent role is a reunion with her friends at Legacy Effects, Kathleen Kennedy, and the Walt Disney Company. And now, she is also welcomed into the Lucasfilm/Star Wars family. Her hard work, training, and a lengthy resume, made Misty the natural choice for the already beloved character of Kuiil. Kuiil is voiced by the Oscar nominated and Golden Globe winning actor, Nick Nolte. Misty really enjoyed creating the perfect body for such a perfect voice. Kuiil has already coined his own signature line too, with the popular, "I have spoken". The Mandalorian premiered November 12th, 2019 on the Disney+ streaming platform. In the Fall of 2019, the company began shooting Season 2 which is slated for a Fall 2020 release.Misty's music! Her most recent venture to add to her skill set: Singer, songwriter, recording artist. Misty recorded her debut album at the world renowned Henson Recording Studio (formerly the A&M Studios). She collaborated with Paul Graham, vocal producer of "Sid the Science Kid", and his music partner (currently on tour with Tim McGraw) Paul Bushnell. Together they have recorded and produced Misty's album, “Life Lessons Love”, as well as, her new single, “Paper House”. Her music and music videos have earned her an HMMA nomination, 2 Telly Award wins, film placement, Spotify playlist placement, and features in various film festivals. What Misty is most proud of is the opportunity to open for her music heroes, Air Supply. She has opened for the band 3 times, and the highlight, so far, has been opening for Air Supply at The Starlight Bowl, in Burbank, Ca. She will be heading back into the recording studio to record her newest single! So stay tuned. You can hear Misty's music on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Google Play Music, and YouTube."I consider each and every one of my jobs a stepping stone, a learning experience that guides me towards the next one. There are so many people that have weaved in and out of my life that have taught me, guided me, inspired me, and simply helped me to get where I am today. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank them: My mom, Arlene, my dad, Carlos Sr., my brothers, Joey, Miklos and Carlos Jr., my sister, Gigi, Russell Hitchcock and Graham Russell of Air Supply, Barnette Ricci, Nancy Thurston, Mark Wagner, Peter Elliot, John Alexander, Stan Winston, Mark Majarian, Jon Turteltaub, Anthony Hopkins, Mark Blanchard, Terri Best, Michelan Sisti, Christopher Walken, Dave "SuperDave" Fedele, Christie Williams, Bikram Choudhury, Eduardo Sanchez, Brad William Henke, Brian Henson, Halle Stanford, Paul Graham, Paul Bushnell, Tom MacLear, Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Deb Chow, Rick Famuyiwa, Bryce Dallas Howard, Peyton Reed. THANK YOU!"When Misty isn't performing you can find her practicing and teaching Bikram yoga. She graduated from Bikram's grueling, nine week Teacher Training program in 2006, and she has been teaching ever since. Her favorite words of wisdom by Bikram Choudhury, "You're never too old, never too bad, never too late and never too sick to start from the scratch once again." To which Misty would add, "Don't think about it, just put your yoga clothes on, and do it! Practice Bikram yoga for your health and your happiness! It changes you from the inside out!" "DO WHAT YOU LOVE. LOVE WHAT YOU DO!"

This week, Comes a Time welcomes Denise Kaufman, musician, yogi, activist, founding member of the all-girl SF band Ace of Cups, Merry Prankster, and so much more. Having joined her first Civil Rights picket line at 14 years old, Denise found herself as a young activist in the 1960's San Francisco in the heart of the same world where the Grateful Dead came to be. Denise shares with Mike and Oteil the incredible tale of meeting Ken Kesey, “getting on the bus,” and getting her Prankster nickname “Mary Microgram.” She also explains what led to her going to music school at 33, her time teaching yoga to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and other celebrities, and opening a private school in Hawaii now in its 44th year of operation. Denise has lived many lives in one with one adventure following the next. Growing up in San Francisco during the 1960s placed Denise Kaufman at the center of a cultural revolution. Her commitment to social justice and exploratory approach to life led her to adventures in counterculture: from being arrested at UC Berkeley's Sproul Hall protests during the Free Speech Movement, to "getting on the bus” (as "Mary Microgram") with Ken Kesey, the Merry Pranksters and the Grateful Dead; to forming the legendary Ace of Cups—an all-girl band that opened for Jimi Hendrix, The Band, and Janis Joplin; to being one of the seven founding mothers of Island School on Kauai; to studying with Robert Nadeau Shihan, Yogi Bhajan, Bikram Choudhury, Pattabhi Jois, and Paul Grilley and to teaching yoga to Madonna, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Quincy Jones, and Jane Fonda. Denise lives between Venice Beach and Kauai - playing music, teaching yoga, surfing and continuing to learn, channel inspiration and connect all those around her. Uskontotieteilijä Matti Rautaniemen Tiedonjanoinen joogi -kirjassa käsitellään joogafilosofiaa, joogan historiaa ja joogan ristiriitaisuuksia. Lähetyksessä keskustellaan myös joogapiireissä levinneistä QAnon-teorioista ja gurujen problematiikasta. Onko instagramissa kauniilla kuvilla markkinoitu jooga aitoa? Joogaan on viime vuosikymmeninä liittynyt myös kohuja liittyen guruihin. Astangajoogan kuuluisan intialaisen gurun Pattabhi Joisinin otteisiin kuului seksuaalinen koskettelu ja sormin sisään tunkeutuminen, vuonna 2009 MOT paljasti, että Suomessakin toimineen joogakoulu Nathan jotkut oppilaat päätyivät hyväksikäytettäviksi romanialaisen Gregorian Bivolarun joogakouluun. Vuonna 2013 Romanian korkein oikeus tuomitsi Bivolarun kuudeksi vuodeksi vankeuteen alaikäisen seksuaalisesta hyväksikäytöstä. Heidän lisäkseen oppilaidensa seksuaalisesta hyväksikäytöstä ovat kärähtäneet muun muassa joogagurut John Friend, Kausthub Desikachar ja Bikram-joogan isä Bikram Choudhury. Lähetyksen juontaa Pauliina Grym.

In part two, Dr. Brady Blevins and Daniel Ray conclude their discussion of the controversy surrounding Bikram Yoga and its fugitive founder who fled the US refusing to pay a $7 million court-ordered judgement. Bikram Choudhury and his trademarked Bikram Yoga has attracted significant media scrutiny as accusations from former students and associates have multiplied. The media accounts mainly focused on these credible abuse allegations and on fact-checking questionable claims Choudhury has made about his past. This episode of Apologetics Profile goes beyond those concerns to examine the underlying doctrines and theology at the foundation of Bikram Yoga and to evaluate those beliefs from a Christian perspective. In this episode, Dr. Brady Blevins and Daniel Ray discuss the controversy surrounding Bikram Yoga and its founder. Facing a warrant for his arrest from the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Bikram Choudhury, the guru who founded Bikram Yoga, has fled the United States refusing to pay a court-ordered judgement of about $7 million in damages. This judgement resulted from a wrongful termination and sexual harassment lawsuit filed by his former legal adviser, Minakshi Jafa-Boden. But as Daniel and Brady discovered, the legal, ethical and spiritual controversies surrounding Bikram Yoga go much deeper than this one lawsuit. In this episode, Chris will talk about the importance of understanding where potential customers are on their customer awareness journey. Him and John learned that the hard way when they put out Facebook ads for a teacher training and a retreat, both separate events, that they were organizing and needed to fill up. They hired a hugely successful Facebook ads agency to handle the ads for them, but the results for both events were surprisingly different. And that was all because of customer awareness levels. The customer awareness journey starts with someone being unaware that they have a problem, and that there is a solution to it. They then progressively become aware of their problem and start discovering that there is a solution to it. It’s at that point that a person can then start looking for a solution, and such a person is always ready to purchase the solution wherever they can find it. Going back to the events that John and Chris had put out Facebook ads on, they were targeting people locally. And for the teacher training, people already knew them for offering that and trusted them in that regard. That was reflected in the success of the ads because they got quite a good number of people signing up for the training. But for the retreat, they were not so well known for it, and it reflected in the not so good number of sign ups. That’s how customer awareness played into the kind of results that came from the ads for each event. Because the potential customers for the teacher training were at a higher level of awareness about what John and Chris had to offer, the number of people who signed up for the training was high, while the results for the retreat were the opposite. Stay tuned to learn more about how you can apply John and Chris’s lessons on the subject into your own yoga business, so you can always get the highest return out of your advertising dollars. Key Points Discussed:Breaking down the customer awareness journey (02:40)How people move towards problem awareness and solution awareness (04:06)Getting a 600% return on investment for using Facebook paid ads targeted at customers at a higher level of awareness (07:43)The importance of understanding where people are on the customer journey (12:50)Spending $5,000 on ads and getting zero leads from it (15:32)Additional Resources:Breakthrough Advertising By Eugene M. In this episode, Chris will discuss the top five takeaways they got from Funnel Hacking Live 2020. The first year they attended the event was in 2019 and they were skeptical about whether 2020’s event would beat 2019’s but they were impressed by the huge increase in the number of attendants and how well orchestrated the event was. Funnel Hacking Live is an event that is organized by Ninja marketer Russell Brunson’s company, ClickFunnels, and has been running once a year for the last six years. John and Chris have been a part of the ClickFunnels community for five years now and were introduced to it by a coach in a mastermind program that they were a part of. They started consuming Russell’s content and have been rabid followers of his since. The first takeaway is about the power of frameworks which when explained from a yoga-oriented context refers to how teaching yoga students from a framework actually makes them more successful. What the framework does is just organize information so that the students can compartmentalize the information they’re getting, put it in its place, and see a process which they can follow to get the desired result. A great example is the framework that John and Chris created for sequencing a class. They have six or seven steps depending on the sequence they teach, and each step has a pinnacle. They then follow a simple to complex process to get to each pinnacle. That framework is very helpful in teaching students who want to be teachers and those who want to achieve certain results. The second takeaway came from Russell Brunson’s presentation and it was about the three hidden closes, namely; emotion, logic, and fear. A close is a way of compelling somebody to say yes to whatever it is we’re selling, and Chris will dive deeper into each of the three closes so we can understand how important it is to have them figured out when running our businesses. Creating a timeless message upon which your business is based, mother re-targeting ads, freedom is elimination, and the “I am not good enough yet” analogy are the last four takeaways, and taking action on them will definitely help you grow your yoga business moving forward, so tune in to learn more about them. Key Points Discussed:How John and Chris joined the ClickFunnels community (01:03)Seeing Tony Robbins and Tom Bilyeu and getting awesome takeaways from them (03:28)Frameworks are your saviors (06:27)Put your stuff in a framework, name it, and then make it yours (09:39)Telling stories to evoke the emotions that influence people to buy things (10:28)Wrapping the Yax Yoga message around a timeless message will ensure it stands the test of time (17:32)The power of the mother re-targeting ad (20:16)The forest and the trees are the things that we want to be focusing on (21:45)The difference between people that have achieved more versus other people (25:53)Additional Resources:Power of Now By Eckhart TolleThe 7 Habits of Highly Effective PeoplePerennial Seller By Ryan Holiday--If you haven't already, be sure to join our Facebook Group! In this episode, John and Chris will discuss the documentary about Bikram Choudhury, an Indian-born-American yoga teacher, and the founder of Bikram Yoga, a form of hot yoga consisting of a fixed series of 26 postures practised in a hot environment of 40 °C (104 °F). Bikram Yoga became a success in the United States and then across the Western world, with a variety of celebrity students. The documentary details allegations of rape, sexual assault, and discrimination against racial and sexual minorities against Bikram. By January 2014, five women were suing Bikram Choudhury with allegations including sexual harassment and sexual assault. Two lawsuits accusing him of rape were filed in May 2013, with other counts of sexual battery, false imprisonment, discrimination, and harassment. One suit describes a cult-like atmosphere where members of Choudhury's inner circle help him find young women to assault. Another suit claims that Choudhury recruits volunteers from overseas who were so in fear of his wrath that they would travel to the US and risk violating immigration laws in order to serve him. In 2017, a court awarded $7 million to his former lawyer, who gained control of his yoga business when Choudhury fled to India without paying her. Since then he has continued to train yoga teachers outside the United States in countries including Spain and Mexico.John and Chris will share their thoughts on all that, and talk about how yogis should really behave and conduct themselves among their students and the society in general. Yoga is meant to help us connect with a deeper part of ourselves and the yogis that we follow should not be viewed as the ones who can fulfill that for us because they only serve as a channel to help us see what is already inside us. On this episode of the Sofa King Podcast, we look at the life and crimes of Bikram Choudhury, yoga guru and rapist. This guy ticked all the boxes of a cult leader: crazy charisma, the ability to bilk money from followers, promises of better spiritual and physical life, and lots of sex! He allegedly taught yoga to Elvis, Richard Nixon, Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, Quincy Jones, Barbara Streisand, Madonna, Lady Gaga and David Beckham. He never called it a cult, but he had over 650 franchises of his yoga studio around the world and millions of dollars and assets provided by thousands of adoring followers. The problem was, a lot of his sex was not consensual. He was a predator who would sexually assault and rape people at his nine week long yoga seminars held at plush hotels. Eventually, he was busted by the likes of Larissa Anderson and Sarah Baughn, and he lost his empire to his ex-lawyer Minakshi Jafa-Bodden. So where is he now? Did he ever do any jail time? What countries will let him live there without extradition? Was his divorce a sham to hide money? Listen, laugh, learn.

On The Gist, comparing Bill Clinton to basketball great Michael Jordan. Bikram Choudhury’s status as a star yoga guru gave him license to be odd (spiritual but with a soft spot for luxury cars, and always wearing a Speedo). But there was more to it than quirkiness, as sexual assault allegations beginning in 2013 basically expelled Choudhury from the United States. ESPN’s Julia Henderson practiced Bikram Yoga, before capturing the rise and fall of its founder in a five-part podcast: Bikram. On this episode, I speak to Julia Lowrie Henderson, the producer behind ESPN's new 30 for 30 podcast series "Bikram."Bikram Choudhury arrived in the U.S. from Calcutta, India and opened a yoga studio in Beverly Hills in 1973. His intense system of yoga caught on quickly and Bikram became known as the "guru to the stars," with devotees ranging from Shirley MacLaine to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to Raquel Welch. Within two decades, Bikram built a "yoga empire" that included national television appearances, a massive following of devoted students, and a multi-million dollar brand. But Bikram's rise to power came at a cost to many of his students and employees. By 2015, six women had filed civil lawsuits against him, with allegations ranging from sexual harassment to assault to rape. For the podcast series, Lowrie Henderson spent more than a year of her life traveling to India, interviewing students from the Bikram community, and speaking Bikram himself so that we can hear the truth of his story. In this interview, Lowrie Henderson offers insight into Bikram's early rise to fame, his teacher training methodology, and how the 26/2 system is faring without Bikram in the U.S.Shownotes: yogalandpodcast.com/episode104/SHOUT-OUT TO OUR SPONSORS1. Modern Hot Yoga practice originated from a teacher named, Bishnu Gosh, in Calcutta, India, though it's probably best-known today from one of Gosh's most influential (and notorious) students, Bikram Choudhury in Los Angeles. The Hot Yoga world is changing very quickly, and while 20 years ago, Bikram studios were the only game in town, there are now dozens of new and alternative Hot Yoga styles and studio groups popping up. In Canada, Moksha Yoga is a really great school founded by Ted Grand. In Asia and Europe, Absolute Yoga Academy is a leader, and in Mexico, there's Tony Sanchez (just to name a few). It's truly amazing how Hot Yoga has spread to all corners of the world since it's such an impactful style of yoga. In this week's Yoga Talk Show, we deep dive into the real history of Hot Yoga, not just the “creative” history that has informed pop yoga culture up until now. Hot Yoga historian and researcher, Jerome Armstrong, joins us to talk about his republishing of some previously lost manuscripts including one by Gosh's star student, Buddha Bose. In this Show, You'll learn: The real origins of Hot Yoga Hot Yoga vs. Bikram Yoga All about Buddha Bose and his “lost manuscript” What the “84 advanced poses” sequence is all about Nutritional Tip of the Week: Matcha - what it is, how it is grown, and the difference between matcha and regular green tea.
