Louis Myles, director of Kaiser: The Greatest Footballer Never to Play Football, a Prime Video documentary which delves into the astonishing true story of Carlos Henrique Raposo, better known as "Kaiser." Despite lacking the skills to play professional football, Kaiser managed to sustain a career spanning over two decades by cleverly deceiving clubs and the media. He signed with numerous teams, including prominent Brazilian clubs, yet remarkably never played in an official match. His tactics included feigning injuries, orchestrating fake phone calls, and leveraging relationships with journalists and fellow players to maintain his facade. Kaiser's charm and cunning allowed him to live the lavish lifestyle of a football star, earning him the nickname "King of Rio.” Reality Life with Kate Casey What to Watch List: https://katecasey.substack.com Patreon: http://www.patreon.com/katecasey Twitter: https://twitter.com/katecasey Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/katecaseyca Tik Tok: http://www.tiktok.com/itskatecasey Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/113157919338245 Amazon List: https://www.amazon.com/shop/katecasey Like it to Know It: https://www.shopltk.com/explore/katecaseySee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Interview with Nick Appleyard, President & CEO of TriStar Gold Inc.Our previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/tristar-gold-tsxvtsg-moving-through-permitting-process-4713Recording date: 30th May 2025Tristar Gold (TSXV: TSG) has emerged as a compelling investment opportunity in Brazil's mining sector following the release of updated project economics and successful resolution of permitting challenges at its Castelo de Sonhos gold project. The company recently completed a $10 million financing round that will fund strategic drilling programs and advance the project toward feasibility study completion. The updated Preliminary Feasibility Study released in May 2025 demonstrates exceptional project economics with a 40% post-tax internal rate of return at $2,200 gold prices. With current gold trading around $3,200 per ounce, management estimates returns could exceed 70%, supported by over $1 billion in pre-tax cash flow generation and $600 million post-tax net present value. The project targets average annual production of 120,000 ounces over 11 years, with higher-grade output of 150,000 ounces during initial years.A significant milestone involved successfully defending the environmental permit against a public prosecutor challenge regarding indigenous consultation. Despite recommendations for suspension, the permit remained valid as multiple parties confirmed no impact on indigenous lands located hundreds of kilometers from the project site. This resolution strengthens Tristar's regulatory position and eliminates a key development risk. The company benefits from exceptional infrastructure advantages, sitting just 15 kilometers from a major highway with existing power lines and road access developed for the regional soybean industry. These factors support a sub-$300 million capital cost estimate while eliminating major infrastructure development requirements.Management has clearly articulated its strategy as a project developer rather than mine builder, actively seeking partnerships with established mining companies over the next 12 months. This approach recognizes that optimal value creation comes through partnering with experienced operators capable of funding and operating the project through production. The recent financing included participation from Eric Sprott, taking approximately 10% of the company, providing third-party validation of the investment opportunity. With permitting resolved and drilling programs commencing, Tristar expects improved news flow to drive valuation re-rating as the company advances toward strategic partnership.View Tristar Gold's company profile: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/tristar-gold-incSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

A richly cinematic and compelling look at priest-politicians in Brazil and their religious and secular entanglements, Vote of Faith: Democracy, Desire, and the Turbulent Lives of Priest Politicians (Fordham UP, 2024) explores the complex intersection of democracy, patriarchy, and religiosity in Brazil. For over a hundred years, Catholic priests have been running for government office, challenging Brazil's constitutional separation of church and state and its self-image as a modern, secular nation. Priests find themselves walking a tightrope between religious and secular demands in one of Brazil's poorest regions. Vote of Faith is a beautifully crafted ethnography based upon decades of fieldwork that tells the story of the ambiguous and frequently transgressive relationship between Catholicism and state governance, a relationship ultimately mediated by kinship, gender, and sexuality. For the protagonists of Vote of Faith, democracy becomes a sphere in which divine will and human ambition compete with one another, a tension embedded in the vernacular concept of faith. In the Brazilian context, faith signifies a complex set of assumptions about the nature of the world, assumptions derived not just from Christianity, but also from Afro-Brazilian and secular ideas about power, causation, and human agency. In combining ethnographic, theological, and feminist perspectives, Vote of Faith places desiring bodies at the very heart of Catholicism's complex connection to multiple forms of power and offers provocative new angles on the question of the secular. The first work by an anthropologist to explore the unique phenomenon of the mayor-priest, this book offers an essential new angle on emerging debates about secularity as the condition of separation of the religious from the political. Brimming with originality, Vote of Faith is required reading for those interested in the gendered and sexual dimensions of the secular, the plasticity of religion, and the fundamental nature of the world's largest religious institution. Maya Mayblin is Senior Lecturer in Social Anthropology at the University of Edinburgh. Her work explores religion, theology, politics, and gender in Brazil and beyond. She is the author of Gender, Morality and Catholicism in Brazil and co-editor of The Anthropology of Catholicism: A Reader. Yadong Li is a socio-cultural anthropologist-in-training. Interview with Alan Carter, President & CEO of Cabral Gold Inc.Our previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/cabral-gold-tsxv-cbr-near-term-production-pivot-advances-6950Recording date: 28th May 2025Cabral Gold Corp (TSXV:CBR) is positioning itself as a compelling transition story in the junior mining sector, advancing its Cuiú Cuiú gold project in northern Brazil from exploration toward near-term production through an innovative low-cost strategy. CEO Alan Carter has architected a development approach centered on extracting gold from saprolite—weathered rock material resembling mud—through heap leach processing, offering significant advantages over traditional hard rock mining. The company's starter operation targets a 60-meter thick saprolite layer requiring no drilling, blasting, or crushing, making it "an earth moving exercise basically, not a rock mining exercise," according to Carter. Metallurgical testing has yielded exceptional results, with 70% gold recovery achieved within 12 days compared to months typically required for heap leach operations. The September 2024 Preliminary Feasibility Study outlined $37 million USD in capital costs, generating a 47% post-tax Internal Rate of Return at $2,250 per ounce gold. With current gold prices around $3,250 per ounce, Carter projects approximately $2,300 per ounce profit margins.Beyond the starter operation lies significant district-scale potential. Historic placer production of 2 million ounces at Cuiú Cuiú compares to just 200,000 ounces at neighboring Tocantinzinho, which became a 2.5 million ounce deposit. Cabral's soil anomaly spans 7 kilometers versus 1.2 kilometers at Tocantinzinho, while the company has identified 50 exploration targets compared to six at the neighboring mine.Recent drilling has delivered impressive results, including 12 meters at 27 grams per tonne and 49 meters at 2 grams per tonne across multiple new discoveries. Following a successful $15 million CAD financing, the company has mobilized multiple drill rigs to advance various targets toward resource estimates.Carter has invested $2 million CAD personally, demonstrating management alignment while rejecting traditional dilutive financing models. The company expects a construction decision by mid-Q2 2025, with production targeted for mid-2026, positioning Cabral to generate cash flow for district-wide exploration while avoiding excessive shareholder dilution.View Cabral Gold's company profile: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/cabral-goldSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

Shoot us a Text.Episode #1055: Today we cover Stellantis' new CEO facing a storm of tariffs and dealer tensions, GM's surprising pivot back to big V-8s, and DeLorean's futuristic EV launch… that's more crypto maze than car.Show Notes with links:After a six-month search, Stellantis has named Antonio Filosa as its new CEO. With more than 25 years in the industry and leadership experience across Brazil, North America, and global roles, Filosa is stepping in as the company faces pressure on multiple fronts.Filosa starts as CEO on June 23, replacing Carlos Tavares after his December resignation.Currently COO for the Americas and global chief quality officer, he's credited with restoring confidence internally.Challenges include reversing a 10% Q1 shipment drop, regaining dealer trust, and addressing a potential $7.1B hit from Trump's proposed 25% tariffs.Filosa has reinstalled key leadership—bringing back Ram's Tim Kuniskis and U.S. sales head Jeff Kommor—to stabilize operations.“One of my first decisions has been to bring back talents that we lost in the past,” Filosa told reporters in January. The EV slowdown has prompted General Motors to double down on internal combustion, shelving a $300 million plan for EV motors at its Tonawanda, NY plant and instead committing a massive $888 million to next-gen V-8 engine production. The site will continue producing Gen 5 V-8s while ramping up for Gen 6 engines by 2027.New engines will feature performance-boosting and emission-cutting innovations.Investment includes machinery, tooling, and facility upgrades—the largest ever for a GM engine plant.New York Governor Kathy Hochul said the project will support 870 jobs at Tonawanda Propulsion, including 177 jobs deemed at risk“This investment shows the company's commitment to strengthening American manufacturing,” said CEO Mary Barra. The DeLorean Alpha5 EV promised a high-tech return to the future, but it's now stuck in development limbo, with no production timeline or pricing—and buyers are being asked to reserve with cryptocurrency and NFTs.Reservations require $2,500 in USDC crypto via a specialized Slush Wallet and purchase of an NFT.No refunds are offered—buyers can resell their spot in line to recoup funds.Fewer than 600 reservations have been made, with some resale spots priced up to $40,000.The Alpha5, if it arrives, will offer 300+ miles of range and sub-3-second 0-60 performance.Join Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier every morning for the Automotive State of the Union podcast as they connect the dots across car dealerships, retail trends, emerging tech like AI, and cultural shifts—bringing clarity, speed, and people-first insight to automotive leaders navigating a rapidly changing industry.Get the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/

Send us a textWhat happens when everything you've built crumbles overnight? For Leo Popik, founder and CEO of Leading Peers, this wasn't a hypothetical question but a devastating reality that forced him to completely reinvent his life and career.Leo's story begins with an already challenging situation—moving his family from Brazil to the US in 2017 and battling through a grueling immigration process that cost $70,000 in legal fees while putting immense strain on his successful international events company. Just when things seemed to stabilize with his green card approval on December 31, 2019, the pandemic hit, instantly decimating his eight-figure business that operated across ten countries. The emotional toll was crushing. Sleepless nights, vendors demanding payment, employees across the globe depending on him, and a once-thriving business worth millions suddenly worthless. "I realized that a lot of my identity had been tied to the busyness of business," Leo reflects, capturing the existential crisis many entrepreneurs face when their companies falter. Through deep soul-searching conversations with his wife (a leadership coach), Leo identified four core passions that would guide his reinvention: entrepreneurship, leadership, personal development, and community building. This clarity became the blueprint for Leading Peers, an innovative CEO peer advisory organization designed to make high-quality peer groups accessible at $340/month (versus competitors' $10,000+ price tags). Leo built a model where CEOs with at least $250,000 in revenue join boards of 8 peers with expert facilitator-advisors, creating intimate communities focused on mutual growth through monthly meetings, workshops, networking events, and specialized interest groups.Five years later, Leading Peers continues to thrive with its distinctive approach summed up in its mission: "to help CEOs grow so their people and businesses prosper." Leo's journey teaches us that resilience isn't just enduring hardship—it's finding purpose within it and creating something meaningful from the ashes of what once was.Ready to connect with other growth-minded CEOs? What is the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR)? And what does it have to do with conservative political power in the United States and abroad? Leah Payne and Caleb Maskell join Mark Labberton for a deep dive into the emergence and impact of the New Apostolic Reformation—a loosely affiliated global network blending Pentecostal Christian spirituality, charismatic authority, and political ambition. With their combined pastoral experience and scholarly expertise, Payne and Maskell chart the historical, theological, and sociopolitical roots of this Pentecostal movement—from Azusa Street and Latter Rain revivals to modern dominion theology and global evangelicalism. They distinguish the New Apostolic Reformation from the broader Pentecostal and charismatic traditions, and explore the popular appeal, theological complexity, and political volatility of the New Apostolic Reformation. Episode Highlights “Isn't this just conservative political activism with tongues and prophecy and dominion?” “At no point in time in the history of these United States … have Protestants not been interested in having a great deal of influence over public life.” “You can be super nationalistic in Guatemala, in Brazil, in India, and in the United States. … It is a portable form of nationalism.” “They are not moved by appeals to American democracy or American exceptionalism because they have in their mind the end times and the nation of Israel.” “Charismatics and Pentecostals, unlike other forms of American Protestantism … do not have a theological value for democracy.” Main Themes Pentecostalism's history and global influence Charismatic Christianity versus Pentecostalism Defining and explaining the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) C. Peter Wagner, Lance Hall, and Seven Mountain Mandate Dominion theology, Christian nationalism, and the religious Right Pentecostals and Trump politics Zionism in charismatic theology Vineyard movement, worship music, and intimacy with God Linked Media References About Vineyard USA God Gave Rock and Roll to You: A History of Contemporary Christian Music by Leah Payne The New Apostolic Churches by C. Peter Wagner This Present Darkness by Frank Peretti Atlantic Article: “The Army of God Comes Out of the Shadows” by Stephanie McCrummen Bonhoeffer's America: A Land Without Reformation, by Joel Looper Another Gospel: Christian Nationalism and the Crisis of Evangelical Identity, by Joel Looper Show Notes Leah Payne defines Pentecostalism as “a form of American revivalism” William J. Seymour Marked by interracial desegregated worship and spiritual “fireworks” like tongues and prophecy Mystical experiences of God Desegregation and physically touching one another in acts of miraculous healing The Azusa Street Revival (1906) identified as a global catalyst for Assemblies of God denomination There is no founding theological figure, unlike Luther or Calvin Caleb Maskell emphasizes Pentecostalism's roots in “a founding set of experiences,” not a founding theological figure “Limits to what makes a church” Lack of ecclesiological clarity leaves Pentecostalism open to both renewal and fragmentation Leah highlights Pentecostalism as “a shared experience … a shared series of practices.” “Holy Rollers” and being “slain in the Spirit” “A different way of knowing” “Christians are made through an encounter with Jesus.” The global “charismatic movement” and how it has had cross-denominational Influence “Charismatic” was a mid-twentieth-century term for Spirit-led practices arising within mainline Protestant and Roman Catholic traditions Charismatic means “gifted” or “being given gifts” “‘Charismatic' has typically been a more inclusive word than ‘Pentecostal.'” Emphasis on personal spiritual gifts and intimate worship styles “They are not respecters of institutions.” Figures like Oral Roberts and Amy Semple McPherson were “too big” for denominational constraints “Too-bigness” as driven by both an over-inflated ego and spiritual mysticism Frederick Buechner: “The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet.” Spellbound, by Molly Worthen (see Conversing episode 212) What are the origins and key ideas of the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR)? New Apostolic Reformation: “a form of institutionalized charismatic identity that builds on grassroots consensus.” “NAR” coined by C. Peter Wagner at Fuller Seminary in the 1990s Wagner promoted post-denominationalism and “reality-based” church governance centred on individual charismatic gifts Emerged from a “larger soup” of charismatic ideas—often practiced before being systematized. Closely tied to the “Seven Mountain Mandate”: that Christians should influence key societal sectors—family, religion, education, media, entertainment, business, and government The role of dominion theology and political alignment “The convergence of egos, the convergence of ethos … is a natural thing to see emerging.” “Dominion is really just two or three logical steps from an obsession with cultural relevance.” Payne sees dominionism as a Pentecostal-flavoured version of a broader conservative political strategy. “Charismatics and Pentecostals are everywhere … so we should expect them on the far right.” Many deny the NAR label even as they operate in its mode. ”When Bob Dylan's in your church, suddenly your church is relevant, whether you like it or not.” Defining “Dominionism” “Dominion is really just two or three logical steps from an obsession with cultural relevance. Cultural relevance says church should fit—not prophetically, but should fit all but seamlessly—into modes of culture that people are already in.” What are the “Seven Mountains of Culture”? Family, religion, education, media, entertainment, business, and government—”the world would go better if Christians were in charge of each of those arenas.” “At no point in time in the history of these United States and the history of European settlers in the new world have Protestants not been interested in having a great deal of influence over public life.” Trump, Zionism, and global Pentecostal nationalism Christian nationalism versus religious Right “They are not moved by appeals to American democracy. … They think the nation of Israel is the nation of all nations.” “Isn't this just conservative political activism with tongues and prophecy and dominion?” Anti-institutional and anti-structural How Trump seeks power and ego affirmation Christian theocratic rule? ”It may simply be a part of what it is to be a Christian is to say, at some level, within the spheres that I'm given authority in, I ought to have the right kind of influence, whatever it is.” “ I think what's scary about the moment that we're in right now is in fact the chaos.” A book about Donald Trump—God's Chaos Candidate, by Lance Wall ”The beliefs in divine prophecy are so widespread that they transcend partisanship.” Black Pentecostalism: immune to the charms of Trump and populist conservatives Trump's Zionist overtures strategically captured charismatic loyalty The rise of global Pentecostal nationalism in countries like India, Brazil, and Guatemala parallels US patterns. “They don't actually care long-term about American democracy.” “They are not moved by appeals to American democracy or American exceptionalism because they have in their mind the end times and the nation of Israel.” Prosperity gospel Dominionism and the Roman Catholic “doctrine of discovery” The gospel of Christ as “sorting power” “It is a portable form of nationalism.” Concerns about power, order, and eschatology Mark Labberton reflects on Fuller Seminary's controversial role in NAR's intellectual development. Payne critiques the equation of widespread Pentecostal practices with far-right dominionism. “What's scary … is the chaos. And a number of people associated with NAR have celebrated that.” NAR theology often prioritizes divine chaos over institutional order. Warnings against super-biblical apostolic authority and spiritual authoritarianism. Pentecostalism beyond politics “There's a vivid essentialism—make everything great and all the nations will gather.” Vineyard worship as a counterweight to dominionism—emphasizing intimacy and mystical union with Christ. “That emphasis on Jesus as a friend … is a really beautiful image of God.” Vineyard music helped export a gentle, intimate charismatic spirituality. About Leah Payne Leah Payne is associate professor of American religious history at Portland Seminary and a 2023–2024 public fellow at the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI). She holds a PhD from Vanderbilt University, and her research explores the intersection of religion, politics, and popular culture. Her writing and research has appeared in The Washington Post, NBC News, Religion News Service, and Christianity Today. About Caleb Maskell Caleb Maskell is the associate national director of theology and education for Vineyard USA. Born in London, he immigrated with his family to New Jersey in 1986, at the age of nine. Caleb has been involved in leadership in the Vineyard movement for twenty-five years. After spending a gap year at the Toronto Airport Vineyard School of Ministry in 1995, he went to the University of Chicago to study theology, philosophy, and literature in the interdisciplinary undergraduate Fundamentals program. While there, he joined the core planting team of the Hyde Park Vineyard Church, where he served as a worship leader, a small group leader, a setter-up of chairs, and whatever else Rand Tucker asked him to do. After college, full of questions that had emerged from the beautiful collision of serious academic study and the practical realities of church planting, Caleb enrolled in the MDiv program at Yale Divinity School. For four years, he immersed himself in the study of theology, church history, and Scripture, while also leading worship and working with middle school and high school youth groups. After graduating in 2004, he worked for three years as the associate director of the Jonathan Edwards Center at Yale University. In 2007, along with his wife Kathy and their friends Matt and Hannah Croasmun, Caleb planted Elm City Vineyard Church in New Haven, Connecticut. That year, he also began a PhD program at Princeton University, focusing on the history of American religion, with an additional emphasis in African American studies. After moving to Manhattan for four years while Kathy went to seminary, the Maskells ended up in suburban Philadelphia, where Caleb completed his PhD while teaching regularly at Princeton Theological Seminary, and serving as the worship pastor at Blue Route Vineyard Church. Since 2010, Caleb has led the Society of Vineyard Scholars, which exists to foster and sustain a community of theological discourse in and for the Vineyard movement. Caleb is passionate about developing leaders and institutions that will help to produce a healthy, courageous, and hospitable future for the church in the twenty-first century. Caleb and Kathy now live with their two kids, Josiah and Emmanuelle, in the heart of Denver, where Kathy pastors East Denver Vineyard Church. Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso, presented by our friends at Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse. Second to last European final of the season on tap tomorrow as Real Betis faces Chelsea. Isco, who earned a call-up to the Spanish national team for the UEFA Nations League, is one of the key players to watch along with Antony. The winger on loan from Manchester United has been outstanding with 7 goal contributions in 8 Conference League matches since arriving in January. Manuel Pellegrini is coaching in his first European final in his illustrious career, Betis are playing in their first European final as well. Keep in mind, English clubs have lost their last nine European finals against Spanish opposition going back to Liverpool's 2001 UEFA Cup win over Alavés. Lots of potential injury issues for Betis, we'll get you updates hopefully tomorrow ahead of the match on a special Wednesday Morning Espresso. International break next week as World Cup qualifiers take center stage. Lots of eyes will be on Brazil playing their first matches under Carlo Ancelotti's leadership. He left Neymar out due to injury but did recall Casemiro. UEFA Nations League finals will also take place with Spain facing France in one semifinal and Portugal facing Germany in the other. Will that semifinal performance from Cristiano Ronaldo potentially earn him a move to play for a club in the Club World Cup? It might be possible after his social media posts yesterday, seemingly saying goodbye to Al Nassr after their season ended without major success. He's out of contract at the end of June and there's been whispers of interest from Brazilian clubs and Monterrey in bringing him in for the Club World Cup. It's going to grab all the tabloid headlines for sure. Real Madrid and Xabi Alonso are trying to get Trent Alexander-Arnold in for the Club World Cup, but Liverpool want a substantial sum to let him out of his contract a month early. Reports out of Spanish TV indicate that the asking price could be as high as $5M. Al Hilal are trying desperately to get Simone Inzaghi as their new manager, offering to make him the highest paid manager in the world. He has one more match with Inter this season, the Champions League final on Saturday. He wasn't absolutely committed to continuing with the Italian club afterwards, saying that "certain conditions" needed to be met first. Another subplot to watch ahead of the Club World Cup. In Italy as Napoli continues to celebrate their Serie A title, they might be adding a key piece for next season while saying goodbye to someone else. Kevin de Bruyne is reportedly close to joining Napoli on a free from Manchester City. But he'll have a new manager to work for, as it looks like Antonio Conte is set to leave the club and Max Allegri is the leading name mentioned as his successor. Even in successful times, it's never quiet in Naples. For more news today and conversation, check out the video edition on YouTube or the audio on Spreaker. See y'all tomorrow for another edition of the Morning Espresso. Listen to Atlanta Soccer Tonight this evening on 92.9 The Game & the Audacy app starting at 10pm.
In 1992, European football was at a turning point. The European Cup was going to be replaced with a new format: The Champions League. European football's governing body, Uefa wanted a classical theme to accompany the new competition, in an attempt to try and fix the image of football which was mired by hooliganism at the time. Tony Britten was the man tasked with writing such a piece of music. He tells Tim O'Callaghan how he did it. Eye-witness accounts brought to life by archive. Dean's back in the studio to talk life and racing. At this stage in his career, he's loving where racing takes him—traveling the world with his family and lining up in places like Brazil, Australia, the UK, and the U.S. This season took an unexpected turn when HRC Honda called on Dean to race the final 5 rounds of Supercross after both Hunter and Jett Lawrence went out with injuries. Dean shares what it was like riding for Factory Honda and even weighs in on how good the bike was—calling it one of the best he's ever ridden. We dive into the big question heading into the outdoor season: who's the top dog—Chase Sexton or Jett Lawrence? Plus, we throw around some silly season predictions, including whether Eli Tomac might end up on KTM.Always a great conversation with Dean.
