SCOTUS: CHINESE EXCLUSION ACT 1882. RICHARD EPSTEIN, CIVITAS. 1920 DC
In a fast moving breaking story, we have 2 major developments about Trump's unconstitutional tariff policies: (1) All the judges of the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals have issued an Administrative Stay of last night's Court of International Trade ruling blocking Trump's global retaliatory tariff policies, until it has time to hear the appeal; while (2) a different federal judge in DC has also ruled that Trump violated statutes and the constitution in imposing certain targeted tariffs on China. Join Jim and Greg for the 3 Martini Lunch as they briefly bemoan lazy disinformation before diving into today's martinis. They tackle how Trump's 2024 win quickly led to better treatment of Hamas hostages, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser's quiet reversal on her sanctuary city policy, and San Francisco's absurd new grading equity standards in public schools.First, Jim and Greg react to a CNN interview with former hostage Omer Shem Tov, who says Trump's 2024 election immediately led to better treatment of prisoners by Hamas. He says Hamas did not want Trump elected because its leaders knew their actions would no longer fly under his presidency. Next, they are intrigued by Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser's quick yet covert turnaround regarding her support of DC as a sanctuary city. It's the right move but why is she really doing it? Jim argues that sanctuary cities are so 2020 and not so popular with DC residents. Last, they get a good laugh over the whole new meaning of C's get degrees with San Francisco's grade equity policies for schools. Doing homework and attending class no longer matter. Getting a 41 percent out of 100 will get you a C and a 21 percent is still a passing grade. This means hard work goes out the window. Jim also wonders where this policy was when he was in school. Summer is almost officially here and things are already heating up. From the increasing pressure from Republicans to back Ukraine (a massive win for everyone) to Trump's new half-baked “Golden Dome” defense system to another horrific antisemitic attack on two Israeli embassy staffers in DC, your fearless and always independent host Paul Rieckhoff has you covered. And as the onslaught of crazy news continues to drop, it's easy to lose sight of the wins. To forget about the small victories that keep you during the hard times. And so it seemed like the perfect moment to bring back a returning champion. He's one of the most prominent independents in the country—and his national profile is continuing to grow. Mayor Yemi Mobolade is back and he's here to check in and let you know how it's going—and what he thinks about the future of the movement and the challenges and opportunities the times are presenting. It's a deep look at the state of the independent movement, at what is happening in cities nationwide as Trump continues to expand his reach (especially on immigration), and maybe most importantly, at what is possible for independent political leaders. Our VP used to think his path to power was through the ruling class at Yale Law School. But after 2016, he saw that his route was through Trump, so he swapped one set of elites for another. Federal Contract Cuts Hit DC Hard – The Trump administration slashes billions in federal contracts and terminates thousands of DC consultants. Booz Allen Hamilton lays off 2,500, and DC's housing market reels as job losses mount. The White House argues the cuts are necessary to rein in spending and curb bureaucratic bloat. Democrats in Disarray: Four Theories, Five Head-Scratchers – As Democratic support plummets, party insiders debate how to win back working-class voters through language changes, socialist platforms, centrist pivots, or influencer outreach. Bryan examines five recent stories—from Seattle to Maine—that reveal deep ideological fractures, and offers a sobering take on the soul of the party he once belonged to. In this week's podcast we talk about the murders of two Israeli diplomats in DC that were the direct result of demonizing a country and a people. A young couple who were going to plan their wedding are now dead, hunted down and shot outside the Capital Jewish Museum in the name of “Free Palestine”. And Free KNEECAP! Words we never imagined saying but we must defend free speech for everyone, even, members of a vile pro-Hamas Irish rap band. And ahoy again from the high seas, we have a special interview with the legendary Mark Steynby. We spoke with him about his decades long court case with fake Nobel laureate Michael Mann. We bring you the latest on Mann's apparent victory turned expensive defeat. And from the fall of Mann to the fall of man, Original Sin is the book about the Joe Biden coverup and we have a full review of the book including why the title is so stupid (and misleading). And we call out a slur on Ronald Reagan and remember his inspiring letter, announcing his Alzheimer's diagnosis AFTER he left office. You can read it here. And standby for a depressing update on Lucy Connolly, the UK mother incarcerated over a tweet. And we bring you yet another reason why you should never trust the medical establishment.Don't forget to subscribe and leave a comment wherever you get our content and please consider leaving a donation at unreportedstorysociety.com We are a 501(c)(3) so your donation will be tax deductible. And get the Scoop every day. Democrats need vastly more imagination to confront the enormous challenges the country faces politically, economically, and on climate. The party can't just focus on stopping what is happening in Washington. Meanwhile, Trump can't stop insulting the intelligence of the American people, every part of the political spectrum has something to hate about the reconciliation bill, and libertarians need to speak up about a president disappearing people to a foreign black site.
