My name is Al, (0:00:36) Codey: And my name is Cody! (0:00:37) Al: and we are here today to talk about cottagecore games. (0:00:42) Codey: Oh woo! (0:00:44) Al: It’s like a pack of wolves. (0:00:50) Codey: I’m never gonna un-hear that now. (0:00:51) Al: We this episode, we are going to talk about many, many farm because apparently we’re doing two (0:00:59) Al: mobile games in a row because you did Animal Crossing last week. And then we’re doing many, (0:01:00) Codey: Mm-hmm. (0:01:04) Codey: Yeah. (0:01:05) Codey: Yeah. (0:01:06) Al: many farm this week. And yeah, I just realized that today. I was like, Oh, yeah, (0:01:08) Codey: Yes, I forgot about that. (0:01:13) Al: two in a row. Interesting. Oh, well, we’re making Cody work for their title of (0:01:19) Al: mobile correspondent. (0:01:20) Codey: Yep, I’m here for it. For sure. And I am still actively playing mobile games. (0:01:21) Al: Before that, well, yes, so before that we have news, I’m going to overview the (0:01:31) Al: January releases because it’s now February. But first of all, Cody, what have you been up to? (0:01:36) Codey: Um, so, uh, definitely been playing many, many farm. Um, because of the last episode. (0:01:42) Al: Oh yeah, that’s what MMF stands for. (0:01:44) Codey: Yeah. (0:01:44) Al: I was like, what’s MMF? (0:01:45) Al: Many, many fun, of course. (0:01:46) Codey: And many, many farm. (0:01:48) Codey: Um, because of Johnny, I am now cursed to be playing Animal Crossing pocket camp. (0:01:54) Al: A game which you hadn’t played for the podcast, you know, playing (0:01:59) Al: because of the podcast. (0:02:00) Codey: Correct. (0:02:01) Al: Oops. (0:02:02) Codey: Um, I had played it when it was like not the complete. (0:02:06) Codey: Like paid version. (0:02:06) Codey: Um, but because we were talking about it and I saw that it was like cheap and then it was possibly going to become less cheap. (0:02:14) Codey: And I’ve been doing really well with budgeting lately. (0:02:16) Codey: I was like, you know what? (0:02:18) Codey: I can, I can afford 10 bucks. (0:02:18) Codey: So, and I don’t, I don’t know. (0:02:20) Al: Yes. Do we have the actual date? I know that it’s very soon, or it’s, like, just in the (0:02:26) Al: past, but it wasn’t when the podcast episode came out. (0:02:30) Codey: And unfortunately I have now bought it. (0:02:32) Codey: So I have no way of checking because I’m pretty sure. (0:02:35) Al: Ah, it was the 31st of January. So, if you bought it when the last episode came out, (0:02:36) Codey: Okay. (0:02:38) Codey: So now it is what? (0:02:38) Codey: 20 bucks. (0:02:42) Al: or the two days after that, you were good. Otherwise, sorry, too late. And now it’s, yeah, $20. (0:02:48) Codey: So, I’ve been playing that. I’ve also been playing, still been playing Honeygrove, still (0:02:58) Codey: really sucked into Honeygrove. And I, you know, it’s so funny because we, whenever we would (0:03:01) Al: You’re just playing all the mobile games. (0:03:06) Codey: cover them before, it’s like, yay, I can uninstall it now. And the last couple ones, I’ve been (0:03:12) Codey: like, oh, no, I want to keep playing this. So, yeah, I do. (0:03:14) Al: Mm-hmm, oops. (0:03:19) Codey: But it’s nice because I’m, you know, nearing the end, the other thing, quote unquote, I’ve been (0:03:24) Codey: doing is is a PhD. And it is crunch time for sure now. So I pretty much like, I’m doing a lot of (0:03:34) Codey: stuff all the time. If I’m not doing specimens, I’m writing if I’m not doing that, either of those (0:03:40) Codey: two things I’m like, I’m always doing something. So this, this gives me a nice little like, okay, (0:03:46) Codey: I’m gonna sit down for like a half an hour and just like (0:03:48) Al: Mm, are you rotating through them or? (0:03:48) Codey: brain off play these silly little games. Yeah, so every (0:03:56) Codey: well, I guess I’m also playing too many games. I’m also playing (0:04:02) Codey: Pokemon TCG pocket and the new thing just released. And so I (0:04:08) Codey: always check that first. Let me look at my guess. I always (0:04:11) Codey: check that first. And then I do honeygrove because I can like (0:04:14) Codey: send everything off, like my little bees off on their (0:04:17) Codey: or expeditions. (0:04:18) Codey: And then I do pocket camp and then I do mini, mini farm for a little bit. (0:04:23) Codey: And then if for whatever reason, I am bored after that, um, or not (0:04:28) Codey: sucked into mini, mini farm, uh, I have my cross-stitch coloring out. (0:04:30) Al: Hmm (0:04:33) Codey: But yeah, that’s, that’s my, my, my brain off time now. (0:04:33) Al: Fair enough (0:04:40) Codey: Was it? (0:04:40) Al: Nice, I have been playing a lot of Pokemon. (0:04:45) Al: So I think last time we talked, Cody, (0:04:47) Al: I was just nearly finished, (0:04:47) Codey: Mm-hmm. (0:04:50) Al: Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. (0:04:51) Codey: Mm-hmm. (0:04:53) Al: I have now finished that, thank goodness. (0:04:54) Codey: Okay. (0:04:55) Codey: Yeah, you’re free. (0:04:57) Al: So that one’s done. (0:04:59) Al: And I was going to kind of maybe stop there, (0:05:02) Al: but then I was like, no, I need to do Let’s Go as well. (0:05:05) Al: So I did the Let’s Go Pokedex, (0:05:08) Al: and I rushed through. (0:05:10) Al: Uh, another save because I hadn’t recreated my Pokemon. (0:05:15) Al: Let’s go Pikachu save. (0:05:18) Al: So I did that. (0:05:18) Al: So that now is done. (0:05:19) Al: So all of my home DEXs are done except sword and shield. (0:05:25) Al: So I’ve got the let’s go one. (0:05:27) Al: I’ve got brilliant diamond, shining pearl. (0:05:29) Al: I’ve got let’s go. (0:05:30) Al: Arceus and I’ve got all this scarlet and violet ones. (0:05:32) Al: They’re all done. (0:05:33) Al: I haven’t done the sword and shield ones. (0:05:35) Al: Um, and I now have a post game. (0:05:40) Al: Save of every Pokemon Switch game, except shield. (0:05:45) Al: So I’ve recreated all my saves, except that. (0:05:46) Codey: Okay. Wow. (0:05:49) Al: And I have done a professor Oak challenge now of every pair of games, except can you (0:05:55) Al: guess? (0:05:56) Al: No, no, there’s certain shield. (0:05:56) Codey: Brilliant. I’m in shining girl. Oh, I don’t know. Okay. Okay. (0:06:03) Al: So, so at some point, I would like to do a professor Oak challenge in shield. (0:06:10) Al: Uh, and that does all three of those things. (0:06:12) Al: It does a professor Oak challenge in, in that series of games. (0:06:16) Al: It basically completes my home pocket X, right? (0:06:19) Al: Cause you’re catching everything anyway. (0:06:22) Al: Um, and it, it then me, it will mean I have a shield save in post game as well. (0:06:27) Al: But I don’t think I’m going to do that now because I’m worried I might burn out on Pokemon. (0:06:31) Codey: Mm-hmm. (0:06:35) Al: And we don’t know yet when the new games coming out. (0:06:38) Al: I don’t expect it to come out until- (0:06:40) Al: november but we don’t know for certain and I don’t want them to be like come out and like me (0:06:46) Al: spend the next month doing this and then they come out and then I burn out and I’m like okay (0:06:50) Al: I’m done with pokemon for like six months and then they come out and say oh legends za is actually (0:06:57) Al: coming out in April and I’m like oh no that is really soon so uh but I’m also worried that they (0:07:05) Al: might do the release of pokemon for the home decks very soon and yeah sure I don’t- (0:07:10) Al: need to do it as soon as it’s done of course I don’t need to but I will feel the drive to (0:07:15) Al: do it at that point so I’m like do I actually just do the home decks just now and then leave (0:07:21) Al: the professor oak challenge for another time but then why why not just do the professor oak challenge (0:07:28) Al: but then I’m also the reason I was playing those games in January was because there weren’t any (0:07:32) Al: games coming out that I was planning on playing for the podcast and now we have a billion of them (0:07:35) Codey: Yeah, but it would be really inefficient to not just do it, do them together. (0:07:38) Al: them coming out in February and March. (0:07:40) Al: I’m probably going to just wait and do it all at the same time, probably next January. (0:07:54) Codey: yep. yep. (0:07:57) Al: Because January does tend to be quite a quiet period, but I guess that depends on when ZA (0:08:04) Al: comes out. (0:08:05) Al: Because if ZA comes out in November, I’m probably not going to want to do a Professor Oak challenge (0:08:08) Al: of SHIELD. (0:08:10) Al: In January, so maybe, maybe I’ll just wait till Pokemon Day and they’ll all they will almost definitely tell us the release date then right like there’s no way they’re not going to do that. (0:08:22) Al: That reminds me, we want to do Pokemon Day predictions. (0:08:26) Codey: Oh, okay, okay. (0:08:28) Al: And Pokemon Day reactions greenhouse episode that gets us to this month. (0:08:29) Codey: Mm-hmm. (0:08:33) Codey: Mm-hmm. (0:08:39) Al: so (0:08:40) Al: all that to say I have played a lot of pokemon in the last month and a half a lot a lot a lot (0:08:48) Al: of pokemon and I think like maybe like 120 hours over the last month and a half we’ve just pokemon (0:08:56) Codey: Mm hmm. I’m shocked. (0:08:58) Al: still not found a brilliant diamond shining pearl (0:09:02) Al: still a big big fan of let’s go great games love them second best pokemon game (0:09:11) Codey: Yeah, I really have been wanting to go back and replay. I have Eevee, but I also have (0:09:17) Al: Mm-hmm. Yes, fair, fair, fair. So yeah, I’m probably Pokémon’d out for now, but we’ll see. (0:09:21) Codey: else going on. So, yep. (0:09:30) Al: I’ve also been keeping up with Harvestmen, Home Sweet Home. Look at me actually playing a farming (0:09:36) Al: game a little bit a day. What a crazy idea. I know. So I’m now in chapter five, enjoying that. (0:09:37) Codey: Wow not guzzling (0:09:40) Codey: - I’m done. (0:09:44) Al: I don’t know. (0:09:45) Al: I don’t know what to do with that. (0:09:47) Al: Yeah, actually, yeah, no, I will. (0:09:49) Al: I’m enjoying it. (0:09:51) Al: I’m enjoying playing this game. (0:09:52) Al: This is a fun game. (0:09:53) Codey: Mm-hmm. (0:09:54) Al: It still has issues. (0:09:56) Al: Absolutely. (0:09:58) Al: The Cloud Save still not working for me two months later. (0:10:02) Codey: I’m shocked. (0:10:04) Al: But controller support has made it playable. (0:10:07) Al: And it’s actually fun. (0:10:10) Al: It’s no Stardew Valley. (0:10:11) Al: I don’t care about the characters as much. (0:10:14) Al: But there’s a lot to like about it. (0:10:16) Al: and I’m hopeful for… (0:10:17) Al: and I have also started playing Hello Kitty Island Adventure, which I did play when it came to Apple Arcade, so I played it for about a month and enjoyed it. (0:10:33) Al: But then I was like, I am so fed up with playing on the touchscreen and let me tell you, playing with the controller infinitely better. So good! (0:10:37) Codey: Yeah. Okay. (0:10:41) Al: So I’ve been playing on my Steam Deck, I know that I know some people who are playing on… (0:10:47) Al: which may or may not come up in a future episode, but yeah, no, it’s a good game. It is way better than it had any right to be. (0:10:50) Codey: - Ooh. (0:11:02) Al: I completely forgot until I started the game how the game starts and I’m like, I just love… it’s so ridiculous that it basically starts with a plane crash. (0:11:11) Al: Because who would expect that in a Hello Kitty game? Alright, I think that’s everything. That’s what we’ve been… (0:11:17) Al: We are going to continue the new segment, the month’s releases and the previous month’s releases. We’re going to talk about last month’s releases. (0:11:18) Codey: Oh, woo. Oww, ow, ow, ow. (0:11:31) Codey: Last month’s what what was released last month? I got you (0:11:36) Al: Listeners, write in and tell us what this segment should be called, this monthly segment. What released last month? (0:11:44) Al: January 2025 edition. Or should it be fae- (0:11:47) Al: Maybe the 2025 edition, because last month would be January, but it’s like what would (0:11:51) Al: have- what released last month? (0:11:53) Codey: What are you what do you call it so like in? (0:11:57) Codey: Start in stardivale correlate whatever when you go to sleep, and there’s like that recap screen (0:12:02) Al: This summary… (0:12:03) Codey: That’s all you call it. That’s all it’s called (0:12:07) Al: He gla-la… (0:12:07) Codey: Like the daily summary listeners. Let us know (0:12:10) Al: I don’t know… (0:12:11) Codey: What do you call that screen like when it tells you what you did for the day how much all your stuff sold? (0:12:16) Codey: I think that whatever that is called is what this segment should be called because it’s like we just fell asleep on January (0:12:23) Codey: And we’re waking up and it’s February, but let’s like think about the things that occurred last last month (0:12:30) Al: I’m really struggling to Google this. (0:12:31) Codey: Don’t work yeah, don’t worry about looking it up. They got a listeners have to tell us (0:12:35) Al: Okay, so January, what released in January? (0:12:41) Al: We have four releases in January 2025. (0:12:44) Al: We got Harvest Hills, releasing mid-January the 15th. (0:12:48) Al: We got Into the Emberlands, Not Wonderful, released on the 20th of January when we had (0:12:54) Al: Hello Kitty Island Adventure on Steam and Switch that released on the 30th of January. (0:12:58) Al: my little life which is our first (0:13:01) Al: game of Rusty’s Like or as a developer of Rusty’s retirement is calling them bottom of the screen game (0:13:06) Codey: boss game which he he like talked it up on the um on blue sky he like was like y’all (0:13:06) Al: and that released on the 31st of January. So a kind of (0:13:17) Codey: should get this game and now i’m looking at it oh it’s only five dollars and 39 cents (0:13:24) Al: Yeah, it is dangerous. (0:13:25) Codey: oh no it’s only it’s only windows oh I almost clicked it y’all I almost we good okay i’m (0:13:34) Codey: I wish. (0:13:36) Codey: Let it be not just Windows, my little life developer. (0:13:39) Codey: I want to play this game. (0:13:40) Codey: Thank you. (0:13:42) Al: Yeah, so that’s the January releases, wild that I’m about to say this, but that’s a (0:13:47) Al: quiet month. Four games is a quiet month, apparently. (0:13:51) Codey: Yeah, not a lot going on. (0:13:57) Al: Okay, so we’ve now got a bunch of news. We’re going to start with the gaming news. So first (0:14:04) Al: up we have Pixel Cross Renfractory, they have announced a release date for this. So this is (0:14:09) Al: like the pixel cross Stodio seasons. (0:14:12) Al: It’s a Picross type game, but not Picross because Nintendo on the trademark to that kind of. (0:14:21) Al: Yeah, you do your nonograms. I think that’s what the generic term people have been using, (0:14:27) Al: nonograms. You do your nonograms and in the story seasons one, it like built up a farm (0:14:34) Al: in the background as you do it. Yeah, I don’t know. I don’t know if they’ve shown (0:14:36) Codey: is that is that what it is because it also says customize like in this trailer they say customize (0:14:40) Al: and I’ll see you next time. (0:14:42) Al: Yeah. (0:14:43) Codey: your farm and I don’t and it like looks like you choose what like where things are placed and so (0:14:50) Codey: that was one that was my only question was like I mean it’s coming some when it comes out folks (0:14:55) Codey: can tell me unless people have been playing I don’t know if there’s a dummy (0:14:57) Al: I don’t, I, yeah, oh, interesting. (0:15:01) Al: So it does look like you can change things in this one. (0:15:03) Al: So I’m pretty sure on the story of seasons one, (0:15:06) Al: you just saw the farm build up and things grow (0:15:09) Al: and you didn’t have any control over how it looked, (0:15:12) Al: but you’re right, it does. (0:15:13) Al: So it says customize your farm (0:15:14) Al: and it shows different animals or monsters. (0:15:17) Al: And then it shows you actually selecting (0:15:19) Al: what weapon you want your character to have, (0:15:21) Al: including a massive lollipop as an option. (0:15:25) Al: So yeah, it looks like it’s more in depth. (0:15:28) Codey: Well, I’m wondering if it’s just like you can control what it looks like in the background (0:15:34) Codey: while you are, yeah. (0:15:34) Al: I think that, yeah, I think that’s all it is. (0:15:36) Al: I don’t think you’re actually doing any farming (0:15:39) Al: or any battling, that just happens in the background (0:15:41) Al: as you’re doing it, but in the story seasons one, (0:15:44) Al: I’m pretty sure you couldn’t change how it looked. (0:15:46) Codey: is it like learn how to do a carrot by doing a carrot learn how to plant (0:15:52) Codey: carrots I like okay (0:15:52) Al: It wasn’t even that much in the study seasons when it was literally, you do stuff and things grow in the background you weren’t really. (0:16:00) Al: Yeah, there was nothing else. (0:16:02) Codey: Sounds good. Some people are probably jumping for joy that (0:16:06) Codey: there’s a new across game coming out. New an Autogram coming (0:16:10) Al: nonagram yeah yes yeah anyway space sprouts have announced that they’re (0:16:13) Codey: it’s like Kleenex. It’s like people say get a Kleenex but (0:16:17) Codey: that’s a brand. (0:16:21) Al: releasing on the 31st of March (0:16:24) Codey: Mm-hmm. They’re also participating in Steam’s next fest, so… (0:16:28) Al: Cody who isn’t (0:16:30) Codey: Oh, okay, fine. They’re also moving on to the next part. Uh, I guess the only thing… (0:16:33) Al: I mean I’d like I just I find the steam next fest stuff so funny because it’s (0:16:40) Al: it doesn’t really mean anything it’s like it’s it’s like it’s like being part of (0:16:45) Al: a sale right you can still do a sale whenever you want you can put your price (0:16:48) Al: down whatever but it’s like if you do it at a specific time you might get on a (0:16:50) Codey: Right. But that’s the thing, like there’s a specific list that they’ll get clicked on. (0:16:52) Al: list (0:16:55) Al: but the list is too long (0:16:58) Codey: Okay, but like not every it is still selective, right? Like not hashtag not everyone gets on the (0:17:02) Al: no I don’t I don’t think so I think anyone even get in the list (0:17:03) Codey: list. Well, anyways, that’s from February 27 to March 3. But they are also looking for playtesters. (0:17:12) Codey: So if you go to the show notes, go to the Steam page, etc, etc, you can figure out how to become (0:17:18) Codey: on my playtester for space sprout. (0:17:20) Al: Whoo! Yeah, what was this game again? I can’t… Oh yeah, it was like the 2D space. It was like, (0:17:28) Al: yeah, I’m not describing that very well. But yeah, it was a 2D world where you’re floating around, (0:17:30) Codey: Mm-hmm (0:17:33) Codey: 2D floating in space. Yeah (0:17:36) Al: yeah. Yeah, I’m very interested in this one. I wonder how it’s going to feel playing (0:17:42) Al: farming in 0G. Although it does look like some of it has gravity, and some of it has gravity, (0:17:44) Codey: Mm-hmm. I mean it’s interesting. (0:17:50) Codey: Well, if I learned anything from the Martian, farming in 0G contains the recycling of human waste. (0:17:58) Codey: So, very excited for that. (0:18:00) Al: for sure next we have a free update coming to luma island and this is called pirates (0:18:12) Codey: With an excolate your boy, pirates! (0:18:15) Al: just pirates um it’s literally called luma island pirates what uh although I don’t think (0:18:22) Al: the exclamation mark is actually part of the title because later down they say what’s coming (0:18:26) Al: in Luma Island Pirates without the exclamation mark. (0:18:29) Codey: Uh, I choose to believe, yes. (0:18:30) Al: Don’t you always? (0:18:32) Al: So this brings a pirate themed zone with new minigames, a new temple, traps and enemies, a new profession. (0:18:44) Al: Johnny and Dallin I think, they both play it. They’ll be excited about a new profession. (0:18:51) Al: A full screen map, that’s definitely something it needed. I was annoyed about not having the full screen map. (0:18:56) Al: three new game modes, (0:18:58) Al: including (0:19:00) Al: hero mode and cozy mode. (0:19:02) Al: I wonder what the third mode is. (0:19:04) Al: I love how they’d say three modes (0:19:04) Codey: I’m curious what the new profession is. (0:19:06) Al: and they mentioned two of them. (0:19:10) Codey: Is it piracy? (0:19:12) Al: Oh, interesting. Yeah, that’s a good point. (0:19:14) Al: It could be. (0:19:14) Codey: Like goats? (0:19:16) Al: Even if not actually, (0:19:18) Al: piracy definitely could be related to that. (0:19:20) Codey: Or like treasure hunting? (0:19:20) Al: Yeah, that is a good point. (0:19:22) Al: Yeah, well they do have a treasure hunter one already, I’m pretty sure. (0:19:26) Codey: Okay, so it is piracy. (0:19:28) Codey: Destroy this city and loot the people. (0:19:30) Al: Maybe. You never know. You never know. Also, new outfits, quests, NPCs, Lumas, powers, (0:19:34) Codey: Mutiny, mutiny your own. (0:19:38) Codey: I’m very curious. (0:19:44) Al: bonuses, and achievements. Yes, yeah, that is a free update. That is not a DLC. That (0:19:46) Codey: Ooh, that’s a lot of content in a free update. (0:19:52) Codey: Yeah. (0:19:53) Al: is a free update. Coming soon. No date yet. Coming soon. (0:19:58) Al: Speaking of updates. (0:20:00) Al: RiverShine have announced their 1.7 update. (0:20:05) Al: This is called Azure Coast Trail. (0:20:08) Codey: what? No, say it, say it how you say it again. Oh, that’s so cool. We just say Azure. I like (0:20:08) Al: Azure. (0:20:09) Al: Azure. (0:20:10) Al: How would you say it? (0:20:13) Al: Azure. (0:20:14) Al: Oh, no, Azure. (0:20:18) Codey: your way of saying it. Continue. (0:20:20) Codey: you. (0:20:21) Codey: You’re welcome. (0:20:21) Codey: You’re welcome. (0:20:21) Al: Thank you. (0:20:25) Al: This brings new competitions, horses, music, accessories, and loading screens. (0:20:30) Codey: Oh, whoo, the loading screens look really good, like the the art. (0:20:35) Codey: I mean, I’m betting that they have like a ton of humans that love this game (0:20:39) Codey: and just are like, take here, take my art. (0:20:41) Codey: The loading screens look really cool. (0:20:43) Codey: And the new horse is like a cool new wild horse species. (0:20:48) Codey: I almost look I. (0:20:48) Al: Rabi Rabbi Kano, Rabbi Rabbi Rabbi Kano, I think Rabbi Kano. (0:20:55) Codey: Let me it’s probably something like Robicano or Robic Robicano or something. (0:21:00) Codey: Um, yeah, I didn’t look up to see if those are actually like a thing. (0:21:06) Codey: I almost did and then I didn’t. (0:21:07) Codey: Oh, yep. (0:21:08) Codey: They’re a type of Arabian horse. (0:21:10) Al: rare horse coat color pattern that features white. (0:21:15) Codey: Oh, so it’s just a whatever. (0:21:17) Codey: It’s they’re really cute. (0:21:21) Codey: Yeah, and they also announced that the next update is going to introduce (0:21:27) Codey: a new character and that is the veterinarian. (0:21:30) Codey: Also introduce, you know, care for your horse. (0:21:34) Codey: So different, you know, that care like they might maybe they get sick. (0:21:39) Codey: Maybe they have certain nutritional needs and you didn’t need to make sure (0:21:43) Codey: you meet them. (0:21:44) Codey: I’m not entirely this is all just me. (0:21:46) Codey: Just I don’t know. (0:21:47) Codey: Just like trying to like think of what it could be, but that’s cool. (0:21:52) Codey: I’m all for it. (0:21:53) Codey: Can I be the veterinarian? (0:21:58) Codey: Aww. (0:22:01) Codey: We need a game where you’re like the veterinarian. (0:22:03) Codey: We don’t have that. (0:22:04) Al: Go make it. (0:22:05) Codey: No, I’m good. (0:22:06) Codey: Someone should make it though. (0:22:08) Codey: Or like a wildlife biologist. (0:22:08) Al: Let us know. (0:22:11) Codey: I don’t know. (0:22:12) Al: Is that not just research story? (0:22:14) Codey: Go play research. (0:22:16) Al: I mean, tell me if I’m wrong, you’re the one that’s played it. (0:22:17) Codey: No, I’m trying to. (0:22:18) Codey: Yeah, no, I’m trying to think of like, no, (0:22:20) Codey: like a game where you’re a rehabber. (0:22:22) Codey: Where you rehabilitate wild animals that people bring to you. (0:22:25) Codey: I think the only issue with that is that it’s sad because they die. (0:22:28) Codey: die, but hey. (0:22:30) Codey: There was a Bluey episode about a bird dying, so it’s okay these days. (0:22:36) Al: Blue can do anything. (0:22:38) Codey: Bluey did it. That means it’s child approved. (0:22:42) Al: Let me tell you, right, me and Craig watch Blue together, (0:22:46) Al: and he’ll be sitting and laughing at the jokes and watching it and stuff, (0:22:48) Al: and then I’ll just be sitting behind him, just sobbing. (0:22:50) Codey: stopping. Yeah. Yeah, I just just finished it. And it I am (0:22:52) Al: Like, “Oh, no, what is happening? What’s the doing to me?” (0:23:00) Codey: upset. And I need more. I watched all of it. Thanks. I’ve, (0:23:04) Al: Nice. Well done. (0:23:07) Codey: I just I crave distraction in the background while I run (0:23:11) Codey: meaningless analysis. They’re not meaningless analysis. They’re (0:23:14) Codey: just tedious analysis correction. But yeah, cool that (0:23:21) Codey: give me a game mode where I can play as the veterinarian and I (0:23:24) Codey: will play this game. Developers if you’re like, man, what do (0:23:26) Al: I mean, I feel like that’s just a whole different game, not just a different game mode, but… (0:23:31) Codey: people want these days? I bet a vet mode like a vet game would (0:23:37) Codey: crush. Yep. And I would pay probably $30 for it. So if it (0:23:39) Al: There’s at least one person who would buy it, that’s for sure. (0:23:45) Codey: takes more than $30 to make. I’m out. (0:23:48) Al: I’m not even promising there’d be two people because I’m not sure who the second person (0:23:50) Codey: Listeners. Let me know. Can you contribute $30 we can offer $60 (0:23:53) Al: would do it for the podcast. (0:23:57) Al: I’m sure there are I mean, look, if you could make a game for $60 you’d be rolling in it. (0:24:02) Codey: to developers. There’d be a lot of really bad games. Yeah. (0:24:14) Al: For sure for you. (0:24:15) Al: Well, yeah, you probably can make a game for $60. (0:24:18) Al: Absolutely dreadful. (0:24:21) Al: Just a Skinner box. (0:24:22) Al: All right. (0:24:24) Al: Next we have Particular have announced a free update and a paid DLC. (0:24:33) Al: They’re both releasing on the same day, 28th of February, and the paid DLC Frozen Frontier (0:24:39) Al: has a new story, world quests, new items and creatures. (0:24:45) Al: written snowshoe hair. Is that a creature? (0:24:47) Codey: Yeah, yeah, they specifically say snowshoe hair well, that is just one that they blurbed (0:24:48) Al: Is that a creature that’s there? Just one creature. (0:24:55) Al: blurb. No, I know what you mean. That’s a great example of verification. (0:24:55) Codey: It could be (0:24:59) Codey: Where did that word come from it is keep going I’m gonna look up what that where that came from (0:25:05) Codey: - Um. (0:25:07) Al: And the free update includes new creatures, some temp mechanics. What do you mean by that? (0:25:14) Codey: - Temperature, sorry. (0:25:15) Al: Oh, temperature was like temporary mechanics. Yes, temporary temperature mechanics, snow, (0:25:16) Codey: Now, (0:25:22) Al: And then obviously, quality of life improvements. (0:25:26) Codey: Yeah, so they both yeah, they both kind of include like, adding snow as a as a thing that you can see in the game. But one just adds like a whole new world. Also, I wanted to note that they say on in the beginning of this show notes, whatever, what is this called, like a, thank you. (0:25:48) Al: release notes or well it’s not really release notes because it’s not released (0:25:51) Codey: It’s a (0:25:51) Al: teaser (0:25:54) Codey: Teaser, they say… (0:25:56) Codey: “As spring arrives in the northern hemisphere, we’re not quite done with the cold weather. We got you southern hemisphere folks.” (0:26:02) Codey: Correction. We are also not ready for spring. (0:26:08) Codey: The United States weather predicting rodent has proclaimed that there are six more weeks of winter. (0:26:16) Codey: So, yeah, we’re not ready. (0:26:18) Al: Do I need to tap the sign? Seasons aren’t universal, Cody. (0:26:20) Codey: What’s the sign? (0:26:26) Codey: They specifically say “As spring arrives in the northern hemisphere.” (0:26:28) Al: Seasons aren’t universal in the northern hemisphere, Cody. (0:26:32) Codey: There’s six more weeks of winter. I don’t know what to tell you. (0:26:35) Al: Look, okay, so not every country has the same definitions of seasons. Not every country even (0:26:41) Al: has four seasons, and certainly not every country is going to listen to America when they say that (0:26:46) Al: that a rodent has decided it’s- (0:26:49) Codey: Okay, there’s like certain things that they should listen to us on and the majority of (0:26:54) Codey: things that other countries should just ignore Americans on, especially these days. (0:27:00) Codey: But one thing y’all should really listen to is our, our groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, (0:27:07) Codey: who is an immortal groundhog that has bespake unto the cultists or whomstever and told them (0:27:18) Codey: in Groundhog E’s! (0:27:20) Codey: There will be six more weeks of winter and a bunch of people just went. (0:27:22) Al: Yeah, I have watched Groundhog Day. I do know the idea behind it. (0:27:27) Al: Finally, in the game news in bit, we have MeloBot, a last song, have released their (0:27:34) Al: original soundtrack on Steam. It is $12.99 on its own, or it’s also included in the Deluxe (0:27:42) Al: Edition for which is more expensive. It’s actually a really good deal if you get the (0:27:46) Codey: Oh, whoo. Yeah. (0:27:49) Al: deluxe edition, though, right? Because it’s like… (0:27:52) Al: 20 quid for the game. I’m back into pounds here because you confused me with your whole (0:27:57) Al: dollars. 20 quid for the game or is it 25 quid for the 25 dollars for the game? (0:27:58) Codey: - Yeah, sorry, I put dollars, I put US dollars. (0:28:00) Codey: $13. (0:28:04) Codey: $25 for the deluxe edition and then $13 if, (0:28:08) Codey: for just the soundtrack. (0:28:10) Al: Yeah. Well, how much is the base game is that is that $20 then? (0:28:13) Codey: - Man, I didn’t look at that. (0:28:14) Codey: Let me look. (0:28:16) Al: See, it is 20 quid or 10 and 10 quid for 20 or 27 quid. (0:28:22) Codey: Oh I had it wrong! The game is 25. The bundle that includes the digital deluxe upgrade is 35. (0:28:22) Al: Ah. (0:28:32) Al: OK, so it’s still a good deal, but it’s not as good a deal. (0:28:35) Codey: You save 8%. (0:28:37) Al: All righty, so that is the game news. (0:28:41) Al: We also have two new games announced. (0:28:43) Al: Well, kind of. (0:28:44) Al: One of them is a new game. (0:28:44) Codey: - In quotes. (0:28:46) Al: One of them is actually two that are not– (0:28:50) Al: should we talk about the one that’s actually new first? (0:28:52) Al: So that is Sky Harvest. (0:28:52) Codey: - Yes. (0:28:57) Al: The blurb for this one is, “Armed with hand-me-down tools (0:29:01) Al: and some cash. (0:29:03) Al: You begin your new life as the chief farmer, a position your (0:29:07) Al: grandfather once excelled in. Can you honor his legacy and (0:29:10) Al: transform the overgrown, untamed and desolate floating island (0:29:14) Al: into a flourishing farm abundant with produce? (0:29:19) Codey: produce is weird in that trailer was was grandfather sleeping (0:29:26) Al: I didn’t actually watch the trailer give me two seconds. No, he did (0:29:33) Al: Again, yeah, no he did (0:29:36) Codey: so as a child you come upon your grand your beloved grandfather deceased at the (0:29:44) Al: Dead, at the kitchen table, reading his hopes and dreams. (0:29:47) Codey: kitchen table with (0:29:49) Codey: a book in front of him. (0:29:53) Codey: The book says, if I wish I could have gone back one last time and it’s got like a ticket and then it shows you taking that ticket and going and honoring his legacy. (0:30:04) Al: This is how this is how I know that he’s dead because if he’s not dead that is horrific. You’ve just stolen his ticket (0:30:05) Codey: But like, (0:30:12) Al: The one thing he wanted to do you’ve stolen his ticket and gone without him (0:30:16) Al: Let waited a while because you’ve grown a beard now. You’re an adult now (0:30:16) Codey: also, (0:30:20) Codey: Yeah, there’s a whole beard, a mustache, wild. (0:30:21) Al: Goodness me. That’s dreadful (0:30:23) Al: You (0:30:24) Codey: But like, if I came upon my grandmother deceased, (0:30:29) Codey: I say this because my grandfather is already deceased. (0:30:34) Codey: If I came upon my grandmother deceased, and (0:30:37) Codey: I don’t care what’s in front of her, I’m not looking at that. (0:30:42) Al: Yeah, he just like rests his head on his grandfather’s dead arm and sheds one singular tear before stealing his ticket, his boat ticket. (0:30:45) Codey: And then… (laughs) (0:30:50) Codey: I don’t know how beloved that grandfather was, if that’s your reaction, my guy. (0:30:55) Codey: Anyway, this is me just… (laughs) (0:30:56) Al: One, he’s one tear’s worth a little bit. (0:31:00) Codey: Alright, this looks cool though. So you’re on floating islands, you’re flying around with a jetpack, you can manage a restaurant. (0:31:07) Codey: It just says manage a restaurant, but it just shows you telling the person what the one meal that you guys are making in the day is. (0:31:20) Codey: Not what restaurants do. (0:31:23) Codey: And it’s a really bad restaurant. (0:31:24) Al: It’s what really bad restaurants. (0:31:28) Codey: And then it also says make friends, and then there’s a dog with a scroll in its mouth, so I’m guessing you befriend a dog. (0:31:36) Codey: And unfortunately that wasn’t in the trailer, it was in this thing. (0:31:40) Al: I mean the trailer didn’t show you much, lesbian. (0:31:43) Codey: Right, the trailer was very teaser-y, but underneath that, on the post, they have… (0:31:50) Codey: I watched that video where there’s a dog 10 times to see… I wanted to see more of the dog. (0:31:59) Codey: What kind of dog is it? All that. (0:32:03) Codey: It’s definitely a tricolor something, but other than that, no. (0:32:08) Al: So I will say I’m not particularly enamored by the graphics in this game. (0:32:17) Al: Not that it looks bad, it’s very definitely trying to look how it looks, I think. (0:32:23) Al: What I find a bit weird is the graphics of the game and the graphics of the heads-up display, (0:32:30) Al: like the menus and stuff, they feel like they’re from different games. (0:32:31) Codey: Mm hmm. Yeah, like they had two different people designing those, (0:32:38) Codey: and one understood the assignment and one didn’t. (0:32:38) Al: Yeah. Yeah, so it’s a little bit weird. Very, very. I do like the flying. The flying looks fun. (0:32:45) Codey: The character also looks lanky. This is a tall character. (0:32:53) Codey: Yeah. Mm hmm. Cosine. I don’t. (0:32:57) Al: Yeah, I don’t know what else to say. That looks interesting. I love how it calls it sky farming (0:33:01) Codey: It’s farming, but in the sky. Or are we? Are you farming the sky? (0:33:04) Al: when it’s just farming. (0:33:08) Al: In the sky? Okay. No, no, no, no, it’s just you’re on a sky island. Which I feel like this whole (0:33:12) Codey: Like is there part you’re like collecting the sky? (0:33:16) Codey: You don’t know that. What if they what if you collect the sky? (0:33:21) Al: let’s this game has sky islands was a fun idea five years ago and now half the games are doing (0:33:26) Al: it. Which is I guess the problem with game development, right? It was even before that (0:33:30) Codey: It’s the tears of the kingdom like. (0:33:35) Al: people were doing it. They didn’t. (0:33:38) Al: No, I know. Yeah, yeah. No, I get it. I feel like this could be possibly interesting. (0:33:46) Al: I’m not really sure what it’s… The flying is the thing that is most interesting to me, (0:33:51) Al: but other than that, I’m not really sure what it is that they’re doing that’s unique, (0:33:54) Al: which is always the problem with cottagecore games is why should I play you over Stardew? (0:34:01) Codey: I think that’s correct. I think like that’s the thing about this is it’s just to get your (0:34:06) Codey: attention and we will continue. It’s not like I saw this and I’m like, yep, not going to play (0:34:11) Codey: that because there’s not a lot here. I want to, I want to see more. They’re going to probably (0:34:15) Codey: release more. And so far they just say Q2 2025 in the trailer. (0:34:16) Al: Yep. Yeah, where did you see Q2? I just see 2025. Oh, in the trailer, okay. Because on (0:34:28) Al: Steam just says 2025. Okay, I will update my list then. I didn’t pay attention to the (0:34:31) Codey: Yeah, he didn’t watch the trailer. (0:34:38) Al: trailer, there’s a difference there. All right, we also have the brand new and exciting (0:34:39) Codey: Oh, my bad. I get that though. (0:34:47) Al: Harvest Moon, Skytree Village, and The Lost Valley are for some reason coming to Switch. (0:34:55) Al: The good thing about this is it is a bundle, so it’s like you’re not buying the game separately, (0:35:00) Al: which is good, because my word that would be not worth any sort of money. I’m not sure who (0:35:06) Al: wants these games. It’s like they went, “Oh, when we did…” Because they worked with… (0:35:09) Codey: Yeah, so you– (0:35:16) Al: Because the rights are complicated to the old Harvest Moon games, right? So they’ve done some, (0:35:22) Al: they released the original Harvest Moon on, what’s it called, Nintendo Switch Online, (0:35:31) Al: and they had to do that in collaboration with Marvelous, because Marvelous owned the game, (0:35:36) Al: but they owned the name, and so they had to both agree to that. Anyway, whatever, it doesn’t matter. (0:35:41) Al: And I feel like that combined with Marvelous redoing a wonderful… (0:35:46) Al: life has made them go, “Oh, people like when we remake Harvest Moon games and knock on which ones (0:35:55) Al: is it that people actually want to play, because I guarantee you it’s not Skytree Village in The (0:35:59) Al: Lost Valley.” (0:36:00) Codey: - Yeah, I will say, okay, so two things. (0:36:04) Codey: First of all, I looked, so one social media user, (0:36:08) Codey: to your question of who’s asking for this, (0:36:10) Codey: one social media user named Chrissy said, (0:36:13) Codey: “Cozy gamers have really been winning lately.” (0:36:16) Al: I wonder whether that person has ever actually played either of these. (0:36:16) Codey: To which another, (0:36:23) Codey: to which another user said, (0:36:25) Codey: “These games are more like a loss.” (0:36:28) Al: The funny thing is they did the whole, “Oh, we’re going to announce an announcement.” (0:36:34) Al: And they were like, “Oh, we’ve got an exciting announcement coming for you.” (0:36:34) Codey: Yeah (0:36:37) Al: And you’re like, “Okay, fine.” (0:36:40) Al: And then they did this and people were like, “Really? (0:36:43) Al: That was your… (0:36:44) Al: Please tell me this wasn’t everything.” (0:36:46) Al: Because it’s just, they’re like, I am not the sort of person who just hates on Harvest (0:36:50) Al: Moon, you know, Natsume, Harvest Moon games for the sake of it. (0:36:54) Al: You know, I am literally playing Harvestman, Home Sweet Home, as we’re recording. (0:36:58) Al: The podcast, right? And I’ve talked about how I like that. I’ve talked about how I like the ideas (0:37:02) Al: in One World and Winds of Anthos. I think they’re very interesting and I think that they’re very (0:37:07) Al: close to legitimately having a good game. These games are not that. These games are just bad. (0:37:10) Codey: Mm hmm. This ain’t it chief. Yeah, I will say so. I was listening to another podcast (0:37:22) Codey: about metal music lately and they were talking about I had there’s a point fault. Stay with (0:37:27) Al: I look forward to it. (0:37:28) Codey: me. They were talking about how this one band re like, is republishing like re thank you (0:37:37) Al: - Remastered. (0:37:38) Codey: remastering. (0:37:40) Codey: I think they’re actually just straight up rerecording an (0:37:42) Codey: entire album and like reproducing it. (0:37:42) Al: - Oh, okay. (0:37:44) Al: They’re Taylor-swifting it. (0:37:45) Codey: Basically, they are that’s the they literally made a joke about (0:37:49) Codey: that and they had the same question like what who’s asking (0:37:53) Codey: for this and a bunch of people on social media were like, (0:37:56) Codey: ah, this is thanks, but I’d rather have no music, etc, etc. (0:38:00) Codey: But they actually said they made a really good point, which (0:38:02) Codey: is if there are people who have not played these games or (0:38:07) Codey: listen to this music or whatever. (0:38:10) Codey: Kind of an introduction to that to that content for them (0:38:13) Codey: because there might be people who have heard of this Harvest (0:38:17) Codey: Moon thing, but they haven’t really played it yet or whatever (0:38:22) Codey: and then maybe they see this bundle and they’re like, oh (0:38:24) Codey: wow, there’s two of them in here. (0:38:26) Al: They’re first and last Harvest Moon games (0:38:27) Codey: And so it’s not. (0:38:30) Codey: Well, yeah, so that’s the thing. (0:38:31) Codey: So I mean that they were talking about an actually good album (0:38:35) Codey: versus– (0:38:35) Al: Yes, I think that’s that is the key difference here Cody (0:38:39) Al: I think like I am NOT against remakes. I think remakes can be really good (0:38:40) Codey: - Yeah. (0:38:43) Al: I think I’m doing a wonderful life last year was good because that is a very beloved game (0:38:43) Codey: Yeah. (0:38:47) Al: That is a lot of people’s first farming game (0:38:51) Al: And you just have to listen to Kevin for five minutes to know how much some people were waiting for that (0:38:55) Al: Nobody has that about (0:38:56) Codey: Oh, yeah. That’s fair. (0:38:56) Al: these games. (0:38:59) Codey: Yeah, I I’m trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, but, uh, yeah, (0:39:04) Codey: I think that the thing is that it’s not just if they’re not being remade (0:39:08) Codey: or or bundled in for the switch for the fans. (0:39:14) Al: No. This is the problem is there aren’t games that Natsume can nostalgia grab on. (0:39:15) Codey: It’s to try and get new people into the into the fandom. (0:39:26) Al: Because they’re all owned by Marvelous. They only own the name. And Marvelous aren’t going to do (0:39:33) Al: anything about it. I think it was very different when they did the original on Nintendo Switch (0:39:38) Al: Online because that is the actual original game. They’re just porting. (0:39:44) Al: It’s not even porting. It’s literally just an emulator. They’re just literally allowing (0:39:51) Al: the game to run on it. And that’s very different to remaking games. And there’s no way Marvelous (0:40:00) Al: have remade multiple. They remade Friends of Mineral Town, which was a fun one to do. They (0:40:05) Al: remade A Wonderful Life. I can’t remember if they’ve done any other remakes recently. (0:40:10) Codey: Yeah, I don’t know, because I’m not ever going to touch it, so. (0:40:14) Al: They want to jump on the bandwagon. They have to just release bad games again. (0:40:20) Al: This is the thing. So many people have this be in their bonnet about Natsume and they’re like, (0:40:25) Al: oh, they’re just jumping on the name and using it to sell bad games. And yeah, that’s kind of true. (0:40:31) Al: Or at least it was kind of true. I do think now they’re actually getting better and they’re (0:40:36) Al: actually trying to make good games. They’re getting there. But the problem is that releasing (0:40:42) Al: they’re bad games again. (0:40:44) Al: They’re not going to convince anybody that they’re doing anything other than money-grabbing. (0:40:44) Codey: Yeah, it’s like there’s someone at the company that remembers when all these games first (0:40:55) Codey: came out and like the hype the hype of it and they’re trying to like regain that the (0:41:01) Codey: glory days and the it’s sometimes you just got to let things go and like when Bluey and (0:41:08) Codey: Bingo had to get rid of a bunch of their stuffies. Yeah. (0:41:10) Al: Oh, we watched that the other day. That was a good episode. (0:41:17) Al: Yeah, it’s painful to watch what they’re doing, because it’s like one step forward, 73 steps (0:41:24) Al: back. Like, I just… Why do this? And I… Oh, goodness. Yes, right. (0:41:24) Codey: like the American government. So we have some other people one year forward 73 years backwards. (0:41:40) Al: So… Yeah, a section we don’t often have, because normally it’s just game updates and (0:41:41) Codey: We have some other news. Uh-huh. Oh. (0:41:47) Al: occasionally new games, we do have the other news section. So we have three pieces of other (0:41:53) Al: news to talk about. The first one is super… Let’s start off with the negative one, shall we? (0:41:54) Codey: You got to be more specific. Oh, oh, you’re right. You’re right. You’re right. I needed. (0:42:01) Al: There’s only one negative one. Okay. (0:42:04) Codey: I had to look through it again. Yeah. (0:42:10) Al: So Phoenix Labs, the developers of Fae Farm and Dauntless, and were creating other games (0:42:15) Al: until last year when they laid off almost everybody who was working on any game other (0:42:20) Al: than Fae Farm and Dauntless have now laid off almost everybody else. Huzzah! (0:42:26) Codey: - Yay. (0:42:27) Al: They’re like, “What’s the point in a game studio that makes games? (0:42:30) Al: We don’t want to make games. We don’t even want to continue making our existing games.” (0:42:34) Codey: Yeah, you don’t have yeah, but you know, they really said, the developer said, quote, It’s unfortunate, but necessary. (0:42:44) Codey: Yeah, so I did do a dive into this, more than just like, just the top of the of the article or whatever I start, I really got into reading this article and like kind of looking at some stuff because I was just like, what is going on here? (0:42:45) Al: Yeah, I guess the games aren’t failing then. (0:43:00) Al: - Were you rage reading? (0:43:02) Al: Were you rage reading? (0:43:04) Codey: I was so after basically, the developer, the Phoenix lab, whom’s ever the whole the whole Phoenix lab people. Correct. Thank you. You’re so good with the words today. So they, they were, they were acquired by a blockchain company called forte labs. (0:43:14) Al: the company. What can I say? I’m on a roll. Words is my whole thing. (0:43:30) Codey: And when they were acquired, they then laid off (0:43:34) Codey: as you already mentioned 160 people and quote the new owner (0:43:39) Codey: reportedly pressed developers to draft methods for integrating (0:43:44) Codey: blockchain technology in its games for the purpose of buying (0:43:49) Codey: and selling and trading in game goods, according to former (0:43:52) Codey: employees. So the crypto market has has joined games y’all. (0:43:58) Codey: Uh. (0:43:58) Al: are we back on NFTs? I thought we killed NFTs like four years ago, what are you doing? (0:43:59) Codey: Yeah. (0:44:04) Codey: NFTs and crypto, man, they’re here to stay, I guess. (0:44:08) Al: Well no, crypto isn’t dead, but come on, when was the last time you heard about NFTs? (0:44:14) Al: Especially in games, they’re so 2022. (0:44:18) Codey: I believe Ascentient Cheeto recently gave more NFTs. (0:44:24) Codey: Continuing on, apparently after releasing Dauntless, (0:44:28) Codey: they were “criticized by players for its new in-app monetization design,” (0:44:32) Codey: which was probably the blockchain, (0:44:34) Codey: but erasing previous progression with the new Awakening update. (0:44:38) Codey: So they had an update and it released, it erased all the previous progression. (0:44:38) Al: Oh no! No! What?! (0:44:42) Codey: The game still has an overwhelmingly negative number of reviews on Steam. (0:44:49) Al: I miss that happening. I wasn’t really aware of this very much. I was aware of it when (0:44:50) Codey: And the… (0:44:54) Al: it initially released because it was like, “Oh, it’s gonna kill Monster Hunter.” And (0:44:56) Codey: Yeah. (0:45:00) Codey: It did not. (0:45:02) Codey: It really had it was nowhere new (0:45:04) Codey: because when it first launched, there were probably about 3200 concurrent players like people playing at the same time online. (0:45:12) Codey: Nowadays, it’s only ever around about 150 people. (0:45:18) Codey: So yeah, not sure what they’re doing. (0:45:22) Codey: I would suggest well, I guess I would I would say that I would suggest them to back off the blockchain, but they are literally owned and acquired by a blockchain company. (0:45:32) Codey: So I don’t think that’s going to happen. (0:45:36) Codey: So I’m not not really sure what this means for Fae Farm. (0:45:41) Al: What I find really funny is like, so I think crypto is most often a scam. (0:45:48) Al: I do think there are some interesting applications for blockchain as a concept. (0:45:56) Al: NFTs is not it. (0:46:01) Al: It has never been it, even on their own. (0:46:04) Al: And then when people started putting them into games, I was like, I don’t even know why. (0:46:10) Codey: I mean, I feel like it’s to try and like have an introduction. (0:46:11) Al: Like, what is happening, and why would you do this? (0:46:18) Codey: It’s like when they put smoking in movies so that they would get more smokers, right? (0:46:23) Codey: It’s like a, it’s a, it’s a possible way to normalize something. (0:46:26) Al: It’s like the Transformers series for selling more Transformers. (0:46:29) Codey: Yeah. (0:46:31) Codey: Uh, which it’ll probably have a small, well, it would have a small bump if it wasn’t for (0:46:38) Codey: uh, cozy gamers. (0:46:40) Codey: Cause I don’t think cozy gamers are the people or, or monster hunters style players. (0:46:46) Codey: I, you really gotta go for like the call of duty people. (0:46:48) Codey: I feel like they, they would do NFTs because they basically, that’s basically all they (0:46:53) Codey: do with their, uh, skins and stuff on all the, all the guns and whatever. (0:47:00) Codey: So like, it’s not monster hunter people, uh, with dauntless and then cozy games with fave (0:47:08) Codey: farm. (0:47:10) Codey: It’

Trust me, it happens to the all of us, and it's a crucial stage where many people feel like giving up. Even big names like Eric Barone, creator of Stardew Valley went through similar feelings. The reality is, when you're too close to something, you lose perspective. You might feel overly critical or worry that your game is just a mess under the hood, even if players would actually enjoy it. In this episode, we discuss how you can power through and not only finish your game but find the joy in creating it again. Remember, game development is a roller coaster, and the good feelings will come back. These negative feelings are temporary and there are many ways to get past them.
My guest today is the American game designer and musician Eric Barone. Born in Los Angeles, he spent his childhood in the suburbs of Seattle. In 2011 he graduated from the University of Washington Tacoma with a degree in computer science, but was unable to find employment. He started developing a video game to hone his programming skills. Supported by his girlfriend, and an evening job he took as an usher at the Paramount Theatre, for four years my guest worked on his game, a farming simulator. In 2016 he released Stardew Valley, which became an overnight success. To date, it has sold well over thirty million copies, while continuing to evolve via regular updates. In 2021 my guest announced a follow-up, Haunted Chocolatier, which casts players as the owner of a chocolate shop. He once described video games as “a powerful form of art, a peaceful escape from the chaos of modern life, and a way to have experiences that are impossible otherwise... Through these means, games have a powerful and growing influence on culture.” Be attitude for gains. https://plus.acast.com/s/my-perfect-console. Hosted on Acast. Crafting, Swifties (and how great the majority of them are), Thomas the Tank Engine, hot glue, trash pandas, fishing and gemstones. That can mean only one thing: Mo is back, and we're talking about Stardew Valley.Remember that you can always get in touch with us on our Facebook page, on Twitter, or with our Contact page.Content WarningThis episode contains spoilers for Stardew Valley and a few swears. Please listen responsibly.Show NotesMo has returned. You'll remember Mo from our Christmas 2023 episode: "Christmas with Mo - Wrong Side, Flip Me Over". Anyway, Mo joined Squidge to talk about the ultimate comfy game: Stardew Valley.Waffling Taylor's Lite: the pocket size podcast that packs a gaming punch. In this first of two servings of bite sized banter with a side of gaming goodness, we catch up with Mo from The Squank and the Hag podcast to talk about all things Stardew Valley. We cover everything from fish fridges, channelling your inner Flappy Bird, to bard versus Darth Vader. So without further ado, sit back, grab some snacks, and get ready for this episode entitled: "Exploring Stardew Valley: A New Farmer's Tale - Part One"Take it away, guys— SquidgeAnd Mo started us off with a pretty in-depth description of her and her podcast:So I am one of the co-hosts from The Squank and the Hag. You can find us thesquonkandthehag.com. I am a nerd, and that's really all there is, I think....But video games, movies, TV, pretty much anything that can be nerdy, I'm into. I'm also into True Crime, and that's what our podcast is about. And, yeah, I feel like I've been on the show enough that I'm part of the family, so I'm sorry. Yeah, I'm just another Taylor. I am here to adjust your clothing. I'll hem your... Isn't that what it is? Isn't that what you guys are? Like, I can hem your pants for you. I actually can hem your pants for you.— MoStardew What-now?And there's no way to talk about Stardew Valley without talking about how easy it is to pick up and play. Mo hit the nail on the head with:That right there is pretty much what they should make the synopsis of the game:"I picked it up and I haven't put it down since," because there, it is just one of those games that anybody can play. Like it, it's just... so accessible, it's so. Just easy to get into and it's so low stress and relaxing....So, like, different play styles can play it and everybody can enjoy it.And it's also just really nice relaxation because sometimes, at least I know for me; now, I am someone with a diagnosed anxiety disorder. So when I get into, like, those high stress, like, first person shooter games, I'm sitting here and I'm all tense and I'm like, "I'M GONNA DIE!"Whereas with Stardew Valley you don't have that and it's just enjoyable— MoMo then goes on to mention a Stardew Valley-like which is set during a zombie apocalypse. With some post-edit sluthing, we found out that the game Mo was referring to was Zelter. And Squidge brought up a really good point about what makes the game so accessible:I think Stardew Valley, a thing that's got going for it is there's no fail state.Apart from if you're in, if you're like dungeon diving in the mines, if you get knocked out, you wake up at like the little clinic hospital place and they take some money off you for medical expenses. Apart from that, there's absolutely no fail state....So all the pressure's off. Then you don't have to worry about anything and if you miss something, it'll come round the next year. There's no ending state. You can always pick it up again if you miss something. So, yeah, it's very laid back experience.— SquidgeAnd the lack of a fail state is what drew a lot of people to Untitled Goose Game—that, and the whole goose-based-shenanigans.Any conversation about Stardew Valley, it's lasting influence, how accessible it is, and how well crafted it is cannot fail to mention that the entire game (art, engine, music, and all) was created by one person. Eric Barone (aka "ConcernedApe") is used in the book Ultralearning as a case study. Jay really recommends this book, by the way. It's gonna sound weird at first. Just stay with me. It's similar to Photoshop where there are a million different ways to get to the same result. So, like, in Photoshop, you want to crop something out. There's 20 tutorials. They're all different, but you all get the same results. So, like, with Stardew Valley, maybe you hate fishing. You can still succeed and, you know, make money, have a good farm and all that stuff without fishing.— MoFull Show NotesCheck out the full show notes for the full list of Squidge's questions, some extra stuff, and some links to related things.Have you played Stardew Valley? [00:35.040 –> 00:41.040] My name is Cody. And I’m Kevin. And we’re here today to talk about Cottagecore games. [00:41.040 –> 00:46.040] I’m gonna say whatever they want. And whatever you guys are asking us. [00:46.060 –> 01:01.060] We’re finally after much time and demand and me pushing Al to do it. We’re doing the mailbag episode. [01:01.060 –> 01:09.060] I’ve been really kind of wanting to get more emails and questions in because I think they’re pretty fun on other podcasts I listen to. [01:09.080 –> 01:14.080] We have condensed all the ones we had into one episode for now. [01:14.080 –> 01:18.080] I don’t know if we’ll do this again or drip read them later like the one Johnny and I did a while back. [01:18.080 –> 01:23.080] But that’s the plan for today along with your usual news and whatnot. [01:23.080 –> 01:29.080] As always we would like you to know that transcripts are available in the show notes and on the website harvestseason.club. [01:29.080 –> 01:34.080] So if you would like a copy of the transcripts that is where you can find them. [01:34.100 –> 01:39.100] Yeah there we go. So let’s just dive right on in. [01:39.100 –> 01:40.100] Cody what have you been up to? [01:40.100 –> 01:48.100] I was going to say we’re not going to dive in. Before our main topic we have news and before that I have been up to Hollow Knight. [01:48.100 –> 01:55.100] I have beaten. Beat? Beaten? Is beaten a word? Like is that an accurate? [01:55.100 –> 01:57.100] Beaten yes beaten. [01:57.100 –> 01:59.100] Is it like an accurate use of that word? I don’t even know. [01:59.100 –> 02:01.100] I’m gonna guess yes. [02:01.120 –> 02:03.120] That’s an answer. [02:03.120 –> 02:12.120] There’s like three bosses that you’re supposed to defeat and then you can defeat like then you can basically beat the game. [02:12.120 –> 02:22.120] I’ve done the three so I just need to like go do the last boss and I am putting it off because yeah I don’t know. [02:22.120 –> 02:28.120] I just want to do the I’m the kind of person where I’m like I want to do everything and then beat the game. [02:28.120 –> 02:30.120] There is a lot to do in Hollow Knight. [02:30.140 –> 02:32.140] There really is. [02:32.140 –> 02:43.140] Also if I beat the other part of the game like if I beat that boss then it’ll give me a percentage like on the loading screen so then I can see how much left I still have. [02:43.140 –> 02:48.140] I probably have only I’ve put like over a hundred and some odd hours into that game. [02:48.140 –> 02:50.140] So what maybe 50% there? [02:50.140 –> 02:52.140] Yeah exactly. [02:52.160 –> 02:56.160] I was not even joking I was about to say I think I’m about 50%. [02:56.160 –> 03:01.160] I think like I’m pretty sure there are whole areas that I haven’t discovered yet. [03:01.160 –> 03:07.160] That’s correct right like the real kicker is the DLC is just in there right there’s no DLC menu no DLC area. [03:07.160 –> 03:08.160] Correct. [03:08.160 –> 03:11.160] So you go above 100% that’s the real killer right there. [03:11.160 –> 03:13.160] You go up to 112. [03:13.160 –> 03:21.160] So yeah I don’t and I’m actually I’ve already encountered some of the DLC areas so that’s crazy. [03:21.180 –> 03:27.180] But yeah so I’ve been playing that and then with my partner I’ve been playing Overcooked 2. [03:27.180 –> 03:38.180] They are on like the fifth area the fifth direction I guess I don’t know so we’re doing that and I’m really enjoying that. [03:38.180 –> 03:49.180] I think he is enjoying it a little less than I am like I could play it for like eight hours straight like many hours straight and after like an hour or two he’s like okay I’m done. [03:49.200 –> 03:56.200] I think it hurts his eyes because like my TV is so far away from oh but but still like that game is just amazing yeah. [03:56.200 –> 04:03.200] I haven’t touched in a minute I know there’s all you can eat edition like I assume they’ve just been putting more and more in that I need to get in check that out. [04:03.200 –> 04:05.200] That sounds amazing like it just keeps going. [04:05.200 –> 04:15.200] Yeah so the initial thing from what I remember is that they were basically putting both games together in the all you can eat edition I think they called it right. [04:15.220 –> 04:25.220] And it was like all the Overcooked 1 in the new engine so like everything’s revamped wow and it’s nice and I’m pretty sure like their goal was like okay this is going to be our platform or whatever. [04:25.220 –> 04:33.220] Now we’re just going to keep adding levels and stuff here yeah so because I mean yeah that’s the kind of game where you can just just give me more forever right. [04:33.220 –> 04:42.220] Yeah instead of this like 10 minutes or like six minutes or whatever to beat and to try and get a certain score just like keep her going you know. [04:42.240 –> 04:44.240] Yep yep yep yep yep. [04:44.240 –> 04:47.240] Yeah other than that I’ve just been doing research so. [04:47.240 –> 04:52.240] Yeah what have you been researching what have you discovered? [04:52.240 –> 05:10.240] So I’m trying to finish a project from last year so in my research like in some type of ecology like so mine is entomology but if you’re looking at ecology of anything usually you have a season where your study species is active and then you’re collecting them, [05:10.260 –> 05:22.260] surveying them, doing all of that and then when they’re no longer active that is when you will kind of like identify and run your analyses and then after that that’s when you’ll write. [05:22.260 –> 05:34.260] So I’m in the writing season now but I actually like I have new fieldwork to start up here in a couple weeks and so it’s like I’m like really trying to get the old stuff done because. [05:34.280 –> 05:35.280] Sure. [05:35.280 –> 05:47.280] I mean they can overlap it’s not a huge deal but it just basically pushes my ability to do the new stuff like later into the year and then everything kind of gets behind excuse me. [05:47.280 –> 06:03.280] So yeah this year I’m looking at insect communities in the canopy versus the understory and then on edge versus forest interior habitats so like think of like a meadow habitat versus like in the middle of a forest. [06:03.300 –> 06:06.300] And trying to see like how how that changes so. [06:06.300 –> 06:07.300] Okay. [06:07.300 –> 06:08.300] Throughout the year. [06:08.300 –> 06:09.300] Okay that’s neat. [06:09.300 –> 06:12.300] Also very in line with the Hollow Knight stuff. [06:12.300 –> 06:13.300] Yeah true. [06:13.300 –> 06:17.300] What about you Kev what are you doing up to? [06:17.300 –> 06:24.300] I have been up to so I talked about it last week on my mad solo episode. [06:24.320 –> 06:33.320] I made the unfortunate mistake of seeing there was a let’s build a zoo update and some of that game has its meaty hooks back into me. [06:33.320 –> 06:40.320] That’s that’s just one of those games where you can just pick up and just go for it until you burn out go with it until you burn out. [06:40.320 –> 06:45.320] And yeah so that that’s the primary gaming stuff and just usual. [06:45.320 –> 06:47.320] Yeah are you still playing marble snap? [06:47.320 –> 06:48.320] I am. [06:48.340 –> 06:49.340] I am. [06:49.340 –> 06:56.340] That game is in a good place right now they’ve they’ve made a lot of updates recently and it’s good and fresh and I’m enjoying it. [06:56.340 –> 07:01.340] Yeah I’m what I do want to talk about though because that’s all same old same old. [07:01.340 –> 07:04.340] I watched a good number of movies actually in the past week. [07:04.340 –> 07:05.340] Okay. [07:05.340 –> 07:12.340] So last weekend I don’t know why or how but my siblings and I we just said you know what we’re just going to marathon every Pirates of the Caribbean movie. [07:12.340 –> 07:14.340] Those are good movies yep yep. [07:14.360 –> 07:31.360] So okay like the first one is a timeless classic like it still holds up like dang that that movie is a master like just a master class in set design and costume design everyone looks so good. [07:31.360 –> 07:35.360] The second one well have you seen them all Cody before? [07:35.360 –> 07:36.360] Yes yes I have. [07:36.360 –> 07:40.360] Okay you have okay I had only seen the first three until last weekend. [07:40.380 –> 07:46.380] So second one well I mean second third one I think everyone knows like it goes off the rails it gets crazy. [07:46.380 –> 07:49.380] The one thing I will say that CGI still holds up really well. [07:49.380 –> 07:54.380] Davy Jones looks really really good considering it was like early 2000s. [07:54.380 –> 07:55.380] I didn’t realize it was CG. [07:55.380 –> 07:57.380] Oh Davy Jones sorry. [07:57.380 –> 07:58.380] Yes. [07:58.380 –> 08:04.380] You said Davy Jones my brain thought Johnny Depp and I was like I was like that wasn’t that’s his face. [08:04.380 –> 08:08.380] Johnny Depp’s CGI in real life too. [08:08.380 –> 08:09.380] Poor dude. [08:09.400 –> 08:16.400] Yeah but yeah no Davy Jones that was so so good such a good story too. [08:16.400 –> 08:26.400] I liked it like the second one was good and the third one just went place like I don’t know I’m meh on the third one. [08:26.400 –> 08:32.400] But I mean I think most people have seen the first three at least because that was you know whole trilogy and they link together. [08:32.400 –> 08:36.400] What I will talk about though is the fourth and fifth ones like I said I’d never seen them before. [08:36.420 –> 08:41.420] The fourth one man I really liked that one I liked it better than the third now. [08:41.420 –> 08:44.420] Maybe on par with the second I don’t know if it’s as good as the first. [08:44.420 –> 08:50.420] It feels like they went back to their roots of just pirate adventures. [08:50.420 –> 08:59.420] And more importantly it has Penelope Cruz and she’s absolutely incredible in everything I’ve ever seen with her in it. [08:59.420 –> 09:02.420] And has Ian McShane what’s his name Blackbeard. [09:02.440 –> 09:06.440] Oh I don’t know his name but I know who you’re talking about. [09:06.440 –> 09:08.440] Yeah Ian McShane that’s what it is. [09:08.440 –> 09:14.440] Yeah he’s a fantastic actor he’s in the John Wick movie I’ve seen that he’s great in that too. [09:14.440 –> 09:17.440] And he did great as Blackbeard. [09:17.440 –> 09:21.440] Yeah man that fourth movie was just so good. [09:21.440 –> 09:25.440] There’s Penelope Cruz’s in it that’s all I need. [09:27.440 –> 09:31.440] And then the fifth one oh man okay what are your thoughts on the fifth one. [09:31.460 –> 09:39.460] I think I need to look at the okay fifth that’s Dead Men Tell No Tales yeah that’s the one. [09:39.460 –> 09:47.460] Oh this is the one that has that guy Javier Bardem as yeah gosh what who was he in that. [09:47.460 –> 09:51.460] He was the villain he was Captain Salazar he was a ghost pilot. [09:51.480 –> 09:53.480] Yeah. [09:53.480 –> 09:57.480] Oh and it has Will’s child. [09:57.480 –> 09:59.480] Yeah. [09:59.480 –> 10:05.480] You know I mean I think it should the fact that I forgot about this. [10:05.480 –> 10:07.480] There you go. [10:07.480 –> 10:09.480] Should tell you. [10:09.480 –> 10:11.480] About how I feel. [10:13.480 –> 10:17.480] That one was a bit of a disaster in my opinion. [10:17.480 –> 10:19.480] Yeah. [10:19.500 –> 10:28.500] It felt like they tried to redo the first one because they have the kids or the kid of Will and Elizabeth right. [10:28.500 –> 10:34.500] And then there’s this other new girl that’s in there and they’re just trying to redo it it feels like. [10:34.500 –> 10:38.500] But it’s the chemistry is just not there. [10:40.500 –> 10:45.500] This felt like the most phoning it in Johnny Depp did as Captain Jack Sparrow. [10:45.520 –> 10:53.520] Also I think they just focused on him less which I don’t know if was for better or worse I don’t know just all over the place. [10:53.520 –> 10:59.520] Best part was gosh was named Geoffrey Rush Barbossa because he’s fantastic in all the movies. [10:59.520 –> 11:11.520] So he was cool but that that was kind of it every new thing after watching all five movies the key takeaway is the more that movie is about actually like pirates and stuff. [11:11.540 –> 11:17.540] That’s cool the more it’s about weird sea magic that’s that’s not as good. [11:17.540 –> 11:21.540] So they should just keep to more pirate stories and whatnot. [11:21.540 –> 11:25.540] Javier Bardem was cool as Captain Salazar. [11:25.540 –> 11:27.540] He has a beautiful name. [11:27.540 –> 11:29.540] I love his accent. [11:29.540 –> 11:31.540] His. [11:31.540 –> 11:33.540] The villains were okay written. [11:33.560 –> 11:41.560] The part that got me the part that knew would define the movie for me were the zombie sharks. [11:41.560 –> 11:46.560] Jumping the zombie sharks oh my goodness. [11:46.560 –> 11:56.560] I just remember he like I’m trying I’m looking I’m googling him because like the pictures of Salazar because I loved like his cracked face. [11:56.560 –> 11:58.560] Yeah it was a good design. [11:58.560 –> 12:01.560] I do remember really enjoying that. [12:01.580 –> 12:09.580] Yeah no he he was good right but like I think the whole thing the plot was just kind of weird but I think the character was cool. [12:09.580 –> 12:14.580] Yeah like I said zombie sharks is more than over the top. [12:14.580 –> 12:22.580] Yeah but yeah so there were some high points in that movie but overall fourth one was really good though. [12:22.580 –> 12:24.580] You have Barbossa. [12:24.600 –> 12:31.600] I didn’t like I guess like the I the story of the mermaid and the fourth one made me really sad. [12:31.600 –> 12:41.600] Yeah yeah the mermaid was yeah it wasn’t I mean like yeah now I get you but I you’re supposed to feel that I think right question mark. [12:41.600 –> 12:45.600] So yeah I don’t know I liked it it was good enough. [12:45.600 –> 12:53.600] It was a little over the top in places too but overall yeah so there you go there’s my crash course in the five Pirates of the Caribbean movies. [12:53.620 –> 12:55.620] No I’ve seen them all. [12:55.620 –> 13:01.620] And one other movie that I just watched just yesterday no Friday whatever two days ago. [13:01.620 –> 13:03.620] Suzume have you heard of this? [13:03.620 –> 13:04.620] I have not. [13:04.620 –> 13:07.620] Okay have you heard of your name or weathering with you? [13:07.620 –> 13:08.620] Nope. [13:08.620 –> 13:10.620] Okay oh boy. [13:10.620 –> 13:14.620] Some customers are not customers some listeners are screaming right now. [13:14.620 –> 13:20.620] Maybe internally well I don’t blame you because they’re anime films let’s be clear right. [13:20.620 –> 13:22.620] I mean I like anime. [13:22.640 –> 13:32.640] Yeah sure sure sure but I’m just saying they’re not it’s a little more niche it doesn’t get the big you know up front marketing that a bunch of other films get right. [13:32.640 –> 13:36.640] So that I get it why you might have missed you might have missed them. [13:36.640 –> 13:38.640] The name of this director. [13:38.640 –> 13:39.640] No worries. [13:39.640 –> 13:51.640] Okay Makoto Shinkai is he’s the director and he this is his third movie they’re not a trilogy and like their plots are related but they’re a set if you will right. [13:51.660 –> 13:57.660] Like you can you know you know what I’m talking about right like three movies they go together even though they’re not sequels or anything. [13:57.660 –> 14:17.660] And so I haven’t seen your name to be fair so you know people will blast me for that but weathering with you is about a magical girl who can control the weather but it like costs her she only has a limited amount of time to live or something like that because of this ability. [14:17.680 –> 14:29.680] They’re all kind of like disaster-esque movies but they’re also kind of magical they’re really well done this movie Suzume which just released recently. [14:29.680 –> 14:45.680] So this one’s interesting because there’s doors around Japan and these giant magical worms like I’m talking like colossal giant sky sized worms and when they crash they come out of the doors and they land on the ground and earthquake happens in Japan. [14:45.700 –> 14:53.700] Nobody can see the worms but except for a hint like two people in the story and they have to go around find these doors and close them. [14:53.700 –> 15:01.700] And so yeah so that’s the plot of the story but also one of the guys gets turned into a chair. [15:01.700 –> 15:06.700] It’s really goofy but cute he’s like a little toddler’s chair. [15:06.700 –> 15:11.700] Oh I was gonna say you gotta describe what kind of chair because there’s a lot of different kinds of chair. [15:11.720 –> 15:20.720] It actually belongs so the lead Suzume that’s her name that’s the protagonist’s name she has this childhood chair as a memento from her mom. [15:20.720 –> 15:31.720] And because of magical hijinks the other dude who’s the deuteragonist gets his body transformed into this chair but he can walk around and talk and stuff. [15:31.740 –> 15:51.740] Yeah like these movies are Ghibli-esque they’re not as maybe so Ghibli is almost a little bit more Disney-like these are a little less Disney-like but it has that same niche of wonder and whimsy right. [15:51.740 –> 16:00.740] But they also hit I think a more emotional tone especially towards the end towards the latter end of the movies there’s some deep stuff in there. [16:00.760 –> 16:09.760] But anyways I’m trying to dance around you know too many details because spoilers and whatnot but I really recommend people watch them they’re really good. [16:09.760 –> 16:10.760] What are they on? [16:10.760 –> 16:14.760] Well that’s a good question Suzume is in theaters I know that. [16:14.760 –> 16:15.760] Oh okay. [16:15.760 –> 16:21.760] I don’t know if it’s already let’s see your name like yeah you can find them all you can just find out YouTube, Apple TV, Google Play. [16:21.780 –> 16:28.780] If you watch that with some friends yeah same thing like that you can just Google HBO Max there you go that’s right. [16:28.780 –> 16:30.780] Yep I have that. [16:30.780 –> 16:40.780] There’s different places though but yeah I just highly recommend them if you like Ghibli films you’ll probably like these because they’re anime films and the animation is just as quality and beautiful. [16:40.800 –> 16:51.800] And there’s of course the whole sub versus dub debate I’ve watched I can’t remember Suzume watched dub I can’t remember if I watched weathering with you dub or sub. [16:51.800 –> 16:54.800] I mean I’m partial to both I don’t have any preference. [16:54.800 –> 17:08.800] Yeah I my only thing so my only thing with subbed is that I like with my ADHD if I am just watching something like if I’m just sitting and watching something my ADHD is going wild. [17:08.820 –> 17:18.820] So I like to if I’m watching something I love to like knit or crochet or like be doing something with my hands at the same time and I can’t do that when it’s subbed. [17:18.820 –> 17:19.820] Sure. [17:19.820 –> 17:22.820] So I generally like the dub person. [17:22.820 –> 17:26.820] Okay well they you’re in luck because the dub was excellent in my opinion. [17:26.820 –> 17:27.820] Sweet. [17:27.820 –> 17:28.820] Yep so. [17:28.820 –> 17:29.820] Cool. [17:29.820 –> 17:30.820] There you go. [17:30.820 –> 17:31.820] Okay. [17:31.820 –> 17:32.820] Yeah. [17:32.820 –> 17:33.820] Well let’s move on to the news. [17:33.820 –> 17:35.820] Yes that’s enough from our weeks. [17:35.840 –> 17:40.840] So first bit of news Kev you’re so excited. [17:40.840 –> 17:42.840] Yes I am. [17:42.840 –> 17:45.840] Maneka we have a date. [17:45.840 –> 17:47.840] Finally. [17:47.840 –> 18:04.840] Yeah so part of the indie world that just happened they released they announced the release date of Maneka’s Night Market and they also released like a little cute little trailer that you can watch that kind of explains the lore of the area. [18:04.860 –> 18:15.860] And what’s going on in this area and kind of I don’t know shows a little bit of other of other cute things and you getting ready for the night market. [18:15.860 –> 18:20.860] So but this is your baby so tell me how do you feel? [18:20.860 –> 18:27.860] For people who may not know this was on my most anticipated game for the next year two years running. [18:27.860 –> 18:28.860] Yeah. [18:28.860 –> 18:31.860] Oh it’s been such a long time. [18:31.880 –> 18:43.880] I mean what what is there to say about Maneka like oh it’s you’re farming but you’re going to be selling things at a magical night market the farming is also magical you farm cats. [18:43.880 –> 18:45.880] You ride cats? [18:45.880 –> 18:49.880] Yes the art is just gorgeous that’s really what sells me about it. [18:49.880 –> 18:52.880] I just can’t wait for this game. [18:52.880 –> 18:54.880] There’s a big cat I don’t. [18:54.880 –> 18:56.880] They don’t care. [18:56.880 –> 18:58.880] They don’t care. [18:58.900 –> 19:09.900] Yeah so it showed the new trailer showed you riding cats like in like a race and they run so cute it’s it’s just pure it’s wholesome as heck. [19:09.900 –> 19:23.900] It also showed you like cutting gosh what was it like a tulip like you were like cutting up a plant up to get ready for the market like I think I’m assuming you like make a bouquet out of that. [19:23.920 –> 19:47.920] And then it also showed you like stitching something which had me my me and my craftiness I was like oh um because that was cool like sewing something I guess it’s not stitching something but um yeah cute little gameplay trailer um gameplay slash lore trailer so and now look at the trailer see that’s what five months away. [19:47.920 –> 19:51.920] 156 days as of this recording. [19:51.940 –> 19:56.940] Well every episode now you have to say how many days there are. [19:56.940 –> 19:58.940] Oh absolutely. [19:58.940 –> 20:00.940] Mineko watch is now a thing. [20:00.940 –> 20:02.940] Hashtag Mineko watch. [20:02.940 –> 20:04.940] Oh my goodness. [20:04.940 –> 20:06.940] Why are the FBI agents chasing her? [20:06.940 –> 20:08.940] Why is Mineko dressed like a cat in one scene? [20:08.940 –> 20:10.940] I don’t know. [20:10.940 –> 20:12.940] I just want to find out when I play. [20:12.940 –> 20:14.940] You’re gonna find out. [20:14.940 –> 20:16.940] There’s a day now. [20:16.940 –> 20:18.940] There’s a date. [20:18.940 –> 20:20.940] Man those cat races look real good. [20:20.960 –> 20:25.960] Alright that’s all that matters from this episode to me. [20:25.960 –> 20:41.960] No I mean the next time or the next thing on here is in the news is My Time at Sandrock also has a little bit of a new trailer so again this is by the same people who did My Time at Portia. [20:41.960 –> 20:43.960] I see yes. [20:43.980 –> 20:51.980] Sandrock is a desert town and you turn a rundown workshop into a well-oiled facility is what you’re doing. [20:51.980 –> 21:11.980] So if you enjoyed My Time at Portia which I know some listeners did then this new game My Time at Sandrock is coming to Switch quote unquote summer 2023 so sometime in the next few months or I guess it could be like six months because they could push it to like the end of summer. [21:12.000 –> 21:14.000] Even summer is loose. [21:14.000 –> 21:16.000] How has it summer in quotation marks? [21:16.000 –> 21:18.000] Yeah in quotation marks. [21:18.000 –> 21:20.000] And that is the correct attitude. [21:20.000 –> 21:22.000] Yeah. [21:22.000 –> 21:24.000] I didn’t play My Time at Portia. [21:24.000 –> 21:26.000] Yeah I didn’t either. [21:26.000 –> 21:28.000] And I’m pretty meh about it. [21:28.000 –> 21:30.000] So yeah that’s a thing. [21:30.000 –> 21:32.000] There’s a lot going on. [21:32.000 –> 21:34.000] Look at the trailer. [21:34.000 –> 21:36.000] There’s a first person shooter portion of this trailer. [21:36.000 –> 21:38.000] Yeah. [21:38.000 –> 21:40.000] That’s a lot going on. [21:40.020 –> 21:42.020] Speaking of a lot going on, ooblets. [21:42.020 –> 21:44.020] There is a lot going on with that one. [21:44.020 –> 21:46.020] There is. [21:46.020 –> 21:48.020] And there’s a new spring event. [21:48.020 –> 21:50.020] And so there’s a spring update that’s just happening now. [21:50.020 –> 21:52.020] In that update there is a minimum time ooblet. [21:52.020 –> 21:54.020] Sorry limited time. [21:54.020 –> 21:56.020] So like it’s only available for a certain amount of time. [21:56.020 –> 21:58.020] Yeah. [21:58.020 –> 22:00.020] A bunny I think. [22:00.040 –> 22:02.040] Yeah I’m not sure which one it is. [22:02.040 –> 22:04.040] But yeah. [22:04.040 –> 22:06.040] There’s one that’s limited. [22:06.040 –> 22:08.040] There’s another new one that you can get that’s not that one. [22:08.040 –> 22:10.040] There’s these Glimmy… [22:10.040 –> 22:12.040] Glimmy Globes. [22:12.040 –> 22:14.040] Which look like little snow globes to me. [22:14.040 –> 22:16.040] Yeah they do. [22:16.040 –> 22:18.040] That’s cute. [22:18.040 –> 22:20.040] They’re like little snow globes. [22:20.040 –> 22:22.040] Yeah they do. [22:22.040 –> 22:24.040] That’s cute. [22:24.040 –> 22:26.040] They’re like little snow globes. [22:26.040 –> 22:28.040] They’re like little snow globes. [22:28.060 –> 22:30.060] They’re like a little ship in a bottle. [22:30.060 –> 22:32.060] That you can design. [22:32.060 –> 22:34.060] And make. [22:34.060 –> 22:36.060] And those are really cute. [22:36.060 –> 22:38.060] I know that there were some people [22:38.060 –> 22:40.060] I’m trying to go into. [22:40.060 –> 22:42.060] There was recently some ooblets talk in Slack. [22:42.060 –> 22:44.060] Cat. [22:44.060 –> 22:46.060] Cat in Slack. [22:46.060 –> 22:48.060] Shout out to Cat. [22:48.060 –> 22:50.060] Said that… [22:50.060 –> 22:52.060] It’s one of our favorites. [22:52.060 –> 22:54.060] True, true, true. [22:54.060 –> 22:56.060] That they are playing [22:56.080 –> 22:58.080] ooblets right now. [22:58.080 –> 23:00.080] And they said [23:00.080 –> 23:02.080] quote I really didn’t think I’d like it [23:02.080 –> 23:04.080] but I’m glad I gave it a try. [23:04.080 –> 23:06.080] Oddly enough this [23:06.080 –> 23:08.080] trailer is I think the most [23:08.080 –> 23:10.080] the one that’s intrigued me the most. [23:10.080 –> 23:12.080] I don’t know why. [23:12.080 –> 23:14.080] Something about the little bottles. [23:14.080 –> 23:16.080] Something about it’s real cute. [23:16.080 –> 23:18.080] That looked really cute to me too. [23:18.080 –> 23:20.080] We’re getting [23:20.080 –> 23:22.080] that bunny tater flop it’s called. [23:22.080 –> 23:24.080] Yeah tater flop seed. [23:24.100 –> 23:26.100] Tater flop. [23:26.100 –> 23:28.100] Oh that’d be so good if it was. [23:28.100 –> 23:30.100] So yeah. [23:30.100 –> 23:32.100] If you are into ooblets or if you want to try it out [23:32.100 –> 23:34.100] now’s a good time not only from our mouth [23:34.100 –> 23:36.100] but from our listeners mouth as well. [23:36.100 –> 23:38.100] Yeah. [23:38.100 –> 23:40.100] It’s until [23:40.100 –> 23:42.100] the spring event is going until the end of [23:42.100 –> 23:44.100] May 31st. [23:44.100 –> 23:46.100] Oh my goodness. [23:46.100 –> 23:48.100] There are 459 variations [23:48.100 –> 23:50.100] of Glimmy Globes so you probably [23:50.100 –> 23:52.100] shouldn’t try to craft them all. [23:52.120 –> 23:54.120] Ublipses. [23:54.120 –> 23:56.120] Unless. [23:56.120 –> 23:58.120] Challenge accepted. [23:58.120 –> 24:00.120] Yeah there you go. [24:00.120 –> 24:02.120] Ooblets for you ooblets people. [24:02.120 –> 24:04.120] Sun Haven. [24:08.120 –> 24:10.120] Update 101 [24:10.120 –> 24:12.120] and in here [24:12.120 –> 24:14.120] I don’t know if you wrote this [24:14.120 –> 24:16.120] or if Al wrote this. [24:16.120 –> 24:18.120] No that was Al. [24:18.120 –> 24:20.120] I thought it was you who wrote it. [24:20.140 –> 24:22.140] There’s a parenthetical here [24:22.140 –> 24:24.140] something in parenthesis that says [24:24.140 –> 24:26.140] quote good thing Al isn’t on this episode [24:26.140 –> 24:28.140] to complain about the use of the word [24:28.140 –> 24:30.140] patch here. [24:30.140 –> 24:32.140] So Al wrote update 101 [24:32.140 –> 24:34.140] but they call it patch 101. [24:34.140 –> 24:36.140] Um. [24:36.140 –> 24:38.140] I think it’s because [24:38.140 –> 24:40.140] a patch is like a bug fixer [24:40.140 –> 24:42.140] it’s not. They’re different. [24:42.140 –> 24:44.140] I don’t know. [24:44.140 –> 24:46.140] I don’t know if I’ve ever heard his rant [24:46.140 –> 24:48.140] about update versus patch. [24:48.160 –> 24:50.160] Somewhere out in Scotland [24:50.160 –> 24:52.160] Al just [24:52.160 –> 24:54.160] just felt his eyebrow twitch for some reason [24:54.160 –> 24:56.160] he’s not sure why. [24:56.160 –> 24:58.160] He should do a mini episode. Al you should do like [24:58.160 –> 25:00.160] a greenhouse mini episode that’s like [25:00.160 –> 25:02.160] a rants with Al version. [25:02.160 –> 25:04.160] It’s gonna be inserted right here. [25:04.160 –> 25:06.160] No no I want it to be its own content. [25:06.160 –> 25:08.160] Of update versus patch. [25:08.160 –> 25:10.160] So Sun Haven [25:10.160 –> 25:12.160] this update [25:12.160 –> 25:14.160] 101.1 [25:14.160 –> 25:16.160] has some new story elements [25:16.180 –> 25:18.180] to it. It has some added character [25:18.180 –> 25:20.180] customization like you can now become [25:20.180 –> 25:22.180] a couple different [25:22.180 –> 25:24.180] like not well I guess it’s racist [25:24.180 –> 25:26.180] like a naga or like a [25:26.180 –> 25:28.180] dragon person or something like that. [25:28.180 –> 25:30.180] There’s also more translation so it’s [25:30.180 –> 25:32.180] available in more languages [25:32.180 –> 25:34.180] which is great and [25:34.180 –> 25:36.180] there’s improved controller support. So they [25:36.180 –> 25:38.180] have had controller support but [25:38.180 –> 25:40.180] apparently there were some [25:40.180 –> 25:42.180] there was some [25:42.180 –> 25:44.180] feedback that they received that it wasn’t [25:44.200 –> 25:46.200] as good as it could be and so they’ve [25:46.200 –> 25:48.200] improved it. So all of that [25:48.200 –> 25:50.200] has happened in this. Which I guess [25:50.200 –> 25:52.200] like for them to call it a [25:52.200 –> 25:54.200] like maybe it is a patch. No [25:54.200 –> 25:56.200] but there’s a new story [25:56.200 –> 25:58.200] which isn’t a patch that’s an update. [25:58.200 –> 26:00.200] Al I need a mini episode [26:00.200 –> 26:02.200] about this. [26:02.200 –> 26:04.200] Because like the [26:04.200 –> 26:06.200] improved controller support and like more languages [26:06.200 –> 26:08.200] like to me that’s a patch. [26:08.200 –> 26:10.200] But when you’re adding new content [26:10.200 –> 26:12.200] like the new story and character [26:12.220 –> 26:14.220] customization like that is an update. [26:14.220 –> 26:16.220] So anyway [26:16.220 –> 26:18.220] it is currently out now [26:18.220 –> 26:20.220] and it is on sale just for [26:20.220 –> 26:22.220] $20 I think it’s like 20% off or something [26:22.220 –> 26:24.220] it’s not only like $25. [26:24.220 –> 26:26.220] I believe yeah well no [26:26.220 –> 26:28.220] because it’s out it’s 1.1 now. [26:28.220 –> 26:30.220] No wait the [26:30.220 –> 26:32.220] oh yes yes yes yes [26:32.220 –> 26:34.220] the patch was [26:34.220 –> 26:36.220] in the beta and now it is out yes. [26:36.220 –> 26:38.220] The update was [26:38.220 –> 26:40.220] yes everything is out [26:40.240 –> 26:42.240] it is nothing is in beta anymore. [26:42.240 –> 26:44.240] End of the bottom line okay. [26:44.240 –> 26:46.240] I have a question [26:46.240 –> 26:48.240] for you Cody. Oh yeah go for it. [26:48.240 –> 26:50.240] Would you call 1.6 Stardew [26:50.240 –> 26:52.240] a patch or an update? [26:52.240 –> 26:56.240] So it’s funny because thinking about [26:56.240 –> 26:58.240] oh okay [26:58.240 –> 27:00.240] I was going to say thinking about what I [27:00.240 –> 27:02.240] think the difference between a patch and an update is [27:02.240 –> 27:04.240] like I think an update has to have [27:04.240 –> 27:06.240] like more content and [27:06.240 –> 27:08.240] it sounds like the changes [27:08.260 –> 27:10.260] in the 1.6 update [27:10.260 –> 27:12.260] is like [27:12.260 –> 27:14.260] modding changes but [27:14.260 –> 27:16.260] ConcernedApe does say that there is [27:16.260 –> 27:18.260] also content [27:18.260 –> 27:20.260] so it looks like there [27:20.260 –> 27:22.260] is more dialogue coming [27:22.260 –> 27:24.260] for different characters [27:24.260 –> 27:26.260] so I don’t [27:26.260 –> 27:28.260] know if it’s like that [27:28.260 –> 27:30.260] the dialogue has changed or maybe [27:30.260 –> 27:32.260] it’s just updated in certain parts of the game [27:32.260 –> 27:34.260] or it’s just [27:34.260 –> 27:36.260] like a completely new cutscene or something [27:36.280 –> 27:38.280] we don’t have a ton of information [27:38.280 –> 27:40.280] ConcernedApe is a man of myth [27:40.280 –> 27:42.280] I’m just looking through [27:42.280 –> 27:44.280] the twitter thread [27:44.280 –> 27:46.280] and the [27:46.280 –> 27:48.280] first comment is [27:48.280 –> 27:50.280] I crave new info about HauntedChocolatier [27:50.280 –> 27:52.280] anything you can tell us? [27:52.280 –> 27:54.280] and ConcernedApe’s response is [27:54.280 –> 27:56.280] that the town is on the water and there are [27:56.280 –> 27:58.280] oh dogs I thought it said rocks [27:58.280 –> 28:00.280] okay never mind [28:00.280 –> 28:02.280] but still [28:02.280 –> 28:04.280] yeah not as bad as Stardew [28:04.300 –> 28:06.300] I know most people prefer [28:06.300 –> 28:08.300] HauntedChocolatier but [28:08.300 –> 28:10.300] that means Stardew isn’t dead [28:10.300 –> 28:12.300] that’s interesting [28:12.300 –> 28:14.300] it’s not gonna ever die [28:14.300 –> 28:16.300] I mean [28:16.300 –> 28:18.300] really you think he’s gonna [28:18.300 –> 28:20.300] I mean from his side right [28:20.300 –> 28:22.300] I know people will play it forever and ever [28:22.300 –> 28:24.300] but do you think he’s gonna keep updating it [28:24.300 –> 28:26.300] forever and ever and ever? [28:26.300 –> 28:28.300] I don’t know why not [28:28.300 –> 28:30.300] wow I [28:30.300 –> 28:32.300] was googling ConcernedApe [28:32.320 –> 28:34.320] because I realize that we always say he [28:34.320 –> 28:36.320] but I’ve actually never seen their pronouns [28:36.320 –> 28:38.320] anywhere [28:38.320 –> 28:40.320] it is a guy [28:40.320 –> 28:42.320] and his name is Eric Barone [28:42.320 –> 28:44.320] I didn’t know that there was actually a name [28:44.320 –> 28:46.320] associated with this human [28:46.320 –> 28:48.320] that we know of [28:48.320 –> 28:50.320] no I’m sure [28:50.320 –> 28:52.320] there is but [28:52.320 –> 28:54.320] I didn’t know if it was a secret [28:54.320 –> 28:56.320] so the next here we have a couple games [28:56.320 –> 28:58.320] that are new [28:58.320 –> 29:00.320] so first is GoGo Town [29:00.340 –> 29:02.340] the Steam [29:02.340 –> 29:04.340] blurb is [29:04.340 –> 29:06.340] quote plan build [29:06.340 –> 29:08.340] prosper? [29:08.340 –> 29:10.340] it literally has a question mark [29:10.340 –> 29:12.340] as mayor [29:12.340 –> 29:14.340] it is up to you to breathe life [29:14.340 –> 29:16.340] back into this run downtown [29:16.340 –> 29:18.340] construct shops [29:18.340 –> 29:20.340] hire staff, automate deliveries with [29:20.340 –> 29:22.340] couriers and attract tourists to [29:22.340 –> 29:24.340] town all while managing infrastructure [29:24.340 –> 29:26.340] and avoiding catastrophes [29:26.340 –> 29:28.340] who said being mayor was going [29:28.360 –> 29:30.360] to be easy [29:30.360 –> 29:32.360] um [29:32.360 –> 29:34.360] I’m trying to remember what the [29:34.360 –> 29:36.360] the graphics are [29:36.360 –> 29:38.360] kind of animal crossing-ish [29:38.360 –> 29:40.360] they are, that’s a good comparison point [29:40.360 –> 29:42.360] but there’s something a little more [29:42.360 –> 29:44.360] I don’t [29:44.360 –> 29:46.360] cartoony almost [29:46.360 –> 29:48.360] yes it has to be cartoony [29:48.360 –> 29:50.360] because there are aliens and monkeys [29:50.360 –> 29:52.360] yeah [29:52.360 –> 29:54.360] I was going to say that [29:54.360 –> 29:56.360] I actually like the art style [29:56.380 –> 29:58.380] I like [29:58.380 –> 30:00.380] the look of the game like you’re building up a town [30:00.380 –> 30:02.380] this is all appealing [30:02.380 –> 30:04.380] and the fact that we got aliens landing [30:04.380 –> 30:06.380] and monkeys running around town [30:06.380 –> 30:08.380] I’m intrigued now [30:08.380 –> 30:10.380] this GoGo Town has caught my attention [30:10.380 –> 30:12.380] um [30:12.380 –> 30:14.380] no it’s to be announced [30:14.380 –> 30:16.380] um I didn’t see the mummies [30:16.380 –> 30:18.380] it’s at the very end of the trailer [30:18.380 –> 30:20.380] they’re not even front and center [30:20.380 –> 30:22.380] they’re just walking around the streets [30:22.380 –> 30:24.380] oh yup you right [30:24.400 –> 30:26.400] I don’t know [30:26.400 –> 30:28.400] there’s also robots [30:28.400 –> 30:30.400] that was my thing it says avoid catastrophes [30:30.400 –> 30:32.400] and I was like I wonder if [30:32.400 –> 30:34.400] the aliens are a catastrophe [30:34.400 –> 30:36.400] because they just come out of their little [30:36.400 –> 30:38.400] their little UFO [30:38.400 –> 30:40.400] and they’re just coming at you [30:40.400 –> 30:42.400] I don’t know if they wreak havoc on your town [30:42.400 –> 30:44.400] well in Al’s notes [30:44.400 –> 30:46.400] it says catastrophes include [30:46.400 –> 30:48.400] aliens [30:48.400 –> 30:50.400] I don’t know if that’s actually from him or not [30:50.400 –> 30:52.400] oh you wrote that [30:52.420 –> 30:54.420] um [30:54.420 –> 30:56.420] yeah so [30:56.420 –> 30:58.420] I mean that’s what it looks like it’s a catastrophe [30:58.420 –> 31:00.420] but they could just be visitors [31:00.420 –> 31:02.420] as well who knows [31:02.420 –> 31:04.420] um but yeah GoGo Town so that’s something [31:04.420 –> 31:06.420] to be aware of [31:06.420 –> 31:08.420] on the horizon [31:08.420 –> 31:10.420] um next is Poglings [31:10.420 –> 31:12.420] boy what a name [31:12.420 –> 31:14.420] yeah [31:14.420 –> 31:16.420] like pogs were originally those little [31:16.420 –> 31:18.420] little like token coin things [31:18.420 –> 31:20.420] from the 80s and 90s [31:20.440 –> 31:22.440] I used to collect some Pokemon ones in Mexico [31:22.440 –> 31:24.440] by the time I was a kid [31:24.440 –> 31:26.440] well [31:26.440 –> 31:28.440] yeah I played with pogs [31:28.440 –> 31:30.440] um my own like [31:30.440 –> 31:32.440] I had some [31:32.440 –> 31:34.440] they were cool for sure [31:34.440 –> 31:36.440] uh yeah this is not that [31:36.440 –> 31:38.440] this is complicated [31:38.440 –> 31:40.440] I was trying to say my point was that the word pog [31:40.440 –> 31:42.440] has been ruined forever and ever thanks to Twitch [31:42.440 –> 31:44.440] oh no [31:44.440 –> 31:46.440] yeah so quote poglings [31:46.440 –> 31:48.440] is a cute pet simulation creature collecting adventure [31:48.460 –> 31:50.460] evolve breed and race [31:50.460 –> 31:52.460] cute mysterious creatures known as poglings [31:52.460 –> 31:54.460] stake claim to your island [31:54.460 –> 31:56.460] grow your nest and establish yourself as the best [31:56.460 –> 31:58.460] pogling catcher the [31:58.460 –> 32:00.460] wild vine islands has ever [32:00.460 –> 32:02.460] seen [32:02.460 –> 32:04.460] um I mean [32:04.460 –> 32:06.460] I don’t love the art style [32:06.460 –> 32:08.460] no it’s too [32:08.460 –> 32:10.460] saccharine [32:10.460 –> 32:12.460] I don’t know it looks like a fake [32:12.460 –> 32:14.460] game or movie you’d see in a movie [32:14.460 –> 32:16.460] you know what I mean [32:16.480 –> 32:18.480] yeah I don’t know it’s not [32:18.480 –> 32:20.480] some people like I feel like if you like the games [32:20.480 –> 32:22.480] like merge dragons [32:22.480 –> 32:24.480] but it’s not a merging game [32:24.480 –> 32:26.480] so I don’t know [32:26.480 –> 32:28.480] it’s got the same like [32:28.480 –> 32:30.480] art style to me [32:30.480 –> 32:32.480] the little creatures look like [32:32.480 –> 32:34.480] little merge dragon [32:34.480 –> 32:36.480] creatures [32:36.480 –> 32:38.480] when I first saw it it also reminded me of neopets [32:38.480 –> 32:40.480] which it is also not [32:40.480 –> 32:42.480] it is not neopets [32:42.480 –> 32:44.480] but it kind of is because you creature collect [32:44.500 –> 32:46.500] yeah you kind of get the vibe [32:46.500 –> 32:48.500] but it’s like [32:48.500 –> 32:50.500] it’s like if it was neopets but you only ever had [32:50.500 –> 32:52.500] one neopet [32:52.500 –> 32:54.500] like one type [32:54.500 –> 32:56.500] and you just [32:56.500 –> 32:58.500] coats of paint on that [32:58.500 –> 33:00.500] it just looks like it’s just coats of paint [33:00.500 –> 33:02.500] on the same one [33:02.500 –> 33:04.500] it is in kickstarter so benefit of the doubt [33:04.500 –> 33:06.500] maybe they were just showing what they have now [33:06.500 –> 33:08.500] I was about to say [33:08.500 –> 33:10.500] this is also probably like 90% [33:10.500 –> 33:12.500] FMV and not actually gameplay [33:12.520 –> 33:14.520] yeah who knows [33:14.520 –> 33:16.520] but it will actually end up being [33:16.520 –> 33:18.520] yeah so I looked it up [33:18.520 –> 33:20.520] I know [33:20.520 –> 33:22.520] I wrote this [33:22.520 –> 33:24.520] I looked at the kickstarter and the kickstarter [33:24.520 –> 33:26.520] the goal was just 40k [33:26.520 –> 33:28.520] it is already at 311k [33:28.520 –> 33:30.520] thousand [33:30.520 –> 33:32.520] it’s already [33:32.520 –> 33:34.520] way over the goal [33:34.520 –> 33:36.520] but it actually is still going [33:36.520 –> 33:38.520] the kickstarter is still going until may 11th [33:38.520 –> 33:40.520] so if you like these little [33:40.540 –> 33:42.540] collecting pet simulation games [33:42.540 –> 33:44.540] maybe give it a look [33:44.540 –> 33:46.540] wait hold the phone [33:46.540 –> 33:48.540] chad tronic is the creator [33:48.540 –> 33:50.540] I don’t know [33:50.540 –> 33:52.540] he’s a youtuber [33:52.540 –> 33:54.540] I don’t follow him but I’m familiar with the name [33:54.540 –> 33:56.540] I did not [33:56.540 –> 33:58.540] that’s crazy [33:58.540 –> 34:00.540] the wonder it blew the goal [34:00.540 –> 34:02.540] it has a following [34:02.540 –> 34:04.540] I’ll be darned [34:04.540 –> 34:06.540] that’s interesting [34:06.540 –&
Escapism refers to the act of withdrawing from reality or everyday life by engaging in activities or hobbies that allow one to escape mentally or physically. This can include activities like watching movies or TV, playing sports, reading a book, or in Baewolf and Wolf's case, video games... especially Stardew Valley. Stardew Valley is a farming simulation and RPG game that was created by American Indie game designer Eric Barone, under the alias of ConcernedApe and originally titled Sprout Valley. It's a charmingly creative, and very addictive game that challenges the player to restore their farm to its former glory, while also building relationships with other residents of the valley. As much as we enjoy the game, and we do, our engagement with Stardew Valley has us questioning the impacts that escaping into gaming can have on one's life; both positive and negative. Join the Wolf, Bull, and Baewolf in episode 82 as they discuss one of their favorite games, Stardew Valley, and the effects that escapism, especially in relation to video games, can have on one's life. We hope you enjoy the conversation and that it provides you with some food for thought when it comes to your favorite games and the impact that video games have on all our lives. On today's IGN The Fix: Games, Crystal Dynamics has announced a new Tomb Raider game and revealed that it will be built using Unreal Engine 5. Announced during the State of Unreal 2022, Crystal Dynamics' Tomb Raider franchise general manager, Dallas Dickinson promised a "high-quality cinematic action-adventure experience" for the upcoming Tomb Raider game. Dickinson said the team is looking to "push the envelope of fidelity", and is looking to create a Tomb Raider experience fans deserve from Crystal Dynamics. Xbox has officially announced the first wave of games hitting Xbox Game Pass in April 2022, including one we already knew about in advance, MLB: The Show 22. Both MLB and Cricket 22 are available immediately on Xbox cloud and console, while there are a few more games to look forward to across the rest of the month for Xbox Game Pass. Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone aka ConcernedApe revealed the new game Haunted Chocolatier will include boss fights. In a video livestream, Stardew Valley Barone released background music for a "bee boss" fight. Haunted Chocolatier has no official release date, yet, but we can rest assured Eric Barone is working hard on the next title. Haunted Chocolatier is not a sequel to Stardew Valley, but will have NPC relationships like the previous title.

Musicians who score video games have found luck making connections and finding work here in the Pacific Northwest rather than larger cities like New York or LA. Seattle is a hub for big video game developers like Microsoft, Nintendo, and Valve, and indie musicians have found (or even made) their own opportunities here, too. Sound & Vision's Roddy Nikpour brings us the story of two Seattle-based composers, Eric Barone and Andrew Rohrmann, and explores what it takes to break into the world of scoring video games with sound designer Akash Thakkar. Ben and Tao step aboard a floating shanty town in the purgatory of Afterlife, meeting spirits and harvesting crops in 2D platformer farming sim, Spiritfarer. Ben is grumpier than usual, testing the question, ‘How bad tempered is too bad tempered to record a podcast?' While Tao stoically hunts for redeeming game design features. It's an admirable effort. The duo touch on minor story spoilers but nothing that would detrimentally affect gameplay more than the game mechanics themselves. (Guess who wrote these Show Notes?) Content Warning: PEGI 13. (Película), Dyng Light Platinum Version (Nintendo Switch)

Jay calls Dave to explore the aural universe of Stardew Valley, specifically that of “Fall” also known as The Smell of Mushrooms. In this episode, Jay brings attention to how composer (and overall game designer) Eric Barone draws upon his influences of Beethoven's Pastorale to invoke a sensation of the changing of seasons from summer to fall, and even incorporates literal sounds of nature such as frigid gusts of wind to help suggest the approach of winter, and invoke the associated annual traditions that coincide with the season.

It's Short Time Shots for November 2, 2019! In Duals:•Fueled by victories from B.C. LaPrade at 157 pounds and Hunter Bolen at 184 pounds, No. 16 Virginia Tech picked up its first win in school history over Missouri, beating the No. 9 Tigers 29-10 in Blacksburg. The Hokies won the last four matches of the dual, which included a forfeit at 133 and a 26-second fall by Mitch Moore at 141 pounds to close out the win. •No. 24 Virginia went 2-0, beating Maryland 34-6 and Division III Southern Virginia 50-3. Maryland picked up the first win of the Alex Clemsen era with a win over Southern Virginia 42-6. Of note for people back home, Patrick McCormick from Poquoson, Virginia - that’s my hometown - registered a forfeit W at 125 against Southern Virginia. It’s my show, I’ll mention irrelevant forfeit wins by kids from my hometown if I want. •Rutgers opened up the season with three wins, picking up a win over newly branded Division I LIU 43-3, the top-ranked team in Division II, Pitt-Johnstown, 22-9 and Division III Centenary 38-6. •Edinboro opened up year two of the Matt Hill era with three wins, two over non-Division I foes Mercyhurst North East and Ashland and its first MAC win over new conference mate Kent State. In the 29-6 win over Kent State, the top win there was Jacob Oliver’s pin over Andrew McNally at 174 pounds. As SID Bob Shreve wrote, Edinboro eclipsed last year’s win total in one day. •While listed as an exhibition, it’s a notable that the revived wrestling program at Division II Fairmont State in West Virginia picked up a win over Garrett Community College of Maryland 30-22 on Saturday. It’s the second win in as many days for a new or reinstated program in the state. On Friday, Davis & Elkins opened with a win. •In Division III, Messiah won its Messiah Invitational with four champions - Josiah Gehr at 133, Garrett Cornell at 141, Nick Barnhardt at 149 and Stephen Maloney at 157 pounds. Messiah outdistanced second-place Ursinus 116.5 to 81. Up in Ithaca, Johnson & Wales took home top honors as three Wildcats won titles - Hayden Brown at 133, Gabriel McDaniel at 141 and Da’mani Burns at 149. Baldwin Wallace was second and picked up a pair of champions - Stanley Bleich at 157 and Zeckary Lehman at 197. Host Ithaca was third and also had three champs. Keeping it Division III, Millikin’s Big Blue beat Elmhurst 29-18•Mixing things up, we have LeRoy Gardner’s University of the Ozarks of Division III picking up a 41-10 win over NAIA Lyon College in a battle of Arkansas schools. Out West, North Idaho of the NJCAA beat NAIA’s Eastern Oregon 26-19. Keeping with the NAIA, Oklahoma City, coached by Olympian Sam Hazewinkel, blanked Oklahoma Wesleyan 55-0. In Tournaments: •Michigan State Open: Ohio State’s Sammy Sasso make his official college debut one to remember as he trounced the field in East Lansing. Sasso had three falls and two technical falls - including a tech over Michigan’s Kanen Storr in the finals. Sasso also decked Purdue’s Nate Limmex in the quarters. Purdue’s Kendall Coleman probably had the biggest breakout performance of the tournament, winning the title at 157 pounds. Among Coleman’s wins were Eric Barone of Illinois, Will Lewan of Michigan, Zac Carson of Ohio and Anthony Artalona of Penn - All known commodities in college wrestling. At 197, Ohio State’s Kollin Moore edged Oklahoma’s Jake Woodley 6-4 in sudden victory, while Michigan’s Mason Parris topped Central Michigan’s Matt Stencel 9-2 in the finals at 285. •Cowboy Open: Probably the most notable result came at 133 pounds where true freshman Theorius Robison of Northern Colorado beat Wyoming All-American Montorie Bridges 3-2. Now, the craziest thing to me is what I’m about to tell you. Ben VomBaur wrestled collegiately at Boise State, where he was a two-time All-American. He won the Cowboy Open, according to his Facebook page in 2001 and 2002. He finished tied for third - due to the match limit rule - at 133 pounds doing the old man entering the tournament thing. Only, he wasn’t. Ben entered the tournament with Will VomBaur, who attends the Air Force’s Prep School and Vance VomBaur, a high school junior out of Windsor, Colorado. Will didn’t place in the Amateur Division at 125, but Vance won it at 133 in the same age bracket, which is typically for college freshmen and sophomores. Yeah, those are Ben’s kids! He wrestled in a college open with his kids. Holy crap, that’s cool. I met Ben a long time ago at the U.S. World Team Trials in 2005 in Ames. Late Friday: •The Battle on the Midway did conclude after the first Short Time Shots of the season was released. Army West Point beat Fresno State 29-9 to conclude the kickoff of the season out in San Diego. In Arkansas, Williams Baptist blanked Central Baptist 48-6. What's on the docket:•We’ve got open tournaments at Princeton, Clarion, near Virginia Tech in Roanoke at the Southeast Open and the first Battle at The Citadel, appropriately, at The Citadel. Menlo hosts the Menlo Open, Lycoming’s hosting an invitational, CSU Bakersfield closes out its upper midwest run as Manny Rivera stops at North Dakota State, a spot he used to coach. Down south, Emmanuel faces Reinhardt, which started the year ranked No. 2 in the NAIA. What up Jeff Bedard!Placing Top Six (From The Newsletter):•Tim Hands over at FivePointMove.com has all the Greco-Roman coverage you can handle, but if you’re a fan of Greco, you might not be able to stomach some of the stuff coming from Budapest, as it was yet another disappointing day for Greco as the U.S. got shut out of medal contention. Timmy has all the breakdowns, as well as a story on the U15 trip out to Europe as well. •Clay Cunningham of the Bakersfield Californian pens a pretty solid story on CSU Bakersfield 133-pounder Chance Rich heading into the Runners’ dual on Sunday against North Dakota State. •From my buddy Mike Catullo out in Pennsylvania, who tipped me off to one of his wrestlers needing a heart transplant. The York Daily Record did a story on the launch of the GoFundMe. You can read about it in the newsletter. Mike was a former assistant at Franklin & Marshall, Millersville and Maryland before moving back to PA to coach and teach at Red Lion High School. This is the same school that hosted Lock Haven vs. Arizona State last year. •When you think wrestling news, you think the Morrison County Record in Minnesota. Well, if you’re a Pierz wrestling fan, yes, that’s spelled P-I-E-R-Z, then you know that’s the most trusted name in news. In all seriousness, I love stories from local media promoting longtime coaches, so that’s why we have included the story of Mark Jensen’s upcoming induction into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame’s Minnesota chapter. •From Eric Knopsnyder of the Tribune-Democrat in Johnstown, Pennsylvania - yup, one of the guys from PA Power Wrestling: Bo Bassett, who I recently saw win the Preseason Nationals in Iowa, is a finalist for Sports Illustrated Kids SportsKid of the Year. He’s a seventh grader at Forest Hills Middle School in Sidman, which is just outside Johnstown.•I’m pretty sure that VomBaur story is going to get some traction nationally once people hear about it. What if you could create a project to quickly learn the skills to transition to a new role, project, or even profession? What if you could learn a new language, simulate a university degree program, or become good at something that seems impossible to you right now? Well then you’ll enjoy this episode with Scott Young, author of the Wall Street Journal Best Seller, ULTRALEARNING: Master Hard Skills, Outsmart the Competition, and Accelerate Your Career. Ultralearning isn’t easy, just the opposite, not only is it hard, it’s frustrating and requires stretching outside the limits of where you feel comfortable. However, the things you can accomplish make it worth the effort. Scott Young is a writer, programmer, traveler, and for more than a decade has run a business focused on productivity. Scott is an avid learner and he has created some fascinating experiments, such as: “The MIT Challenge” where he attempted to learn MIT’s 4-year computer science curriculum without taking classes, “The Year Without English,” where he attempted to learn four languages in one year, “The 30 Day Portrait Drawing Challenge” to see how much improvement he could make in drawing faces, and most recently, and fun, “Let’s Learn Quantum Mechanics.” So in this episode we discuss these challenges and other intellectual feats and what drives Scott, and of course a deep dive into his new book, which has some amazing folks saying some impressive things: James Clear of Atomic Habits fame, who also wrote the Foreword to your book, said “Ultralearning is a fascinating and inspiring read. Scott has compiled a goldmine of actionable strategies for learning anything faster.” Chris Guillebeau said: “This book is an invaluable tool to help you master complicated skills in a short period of time. Read Ultralearning and level up your life!” Cal Newport said “Ultralearning is like a superpower in our competitive economy. Read this book! It will change your life.” Derek Sivers said “A truly great book about learning. Riveting, useful, practical, and applicable to anyone ready to learn something at their own pace. Ultralearning shows you exactly how to learn better than you thought possible.” Scott discusses some of the great case studies in the book along with his own personal challenges, including those of Eric Barone, Tristan de Montebello, and Nigel Richards. His last chapter includes the wonderful story of Judit Polgar and Gary Kasparov. Scott lives his life in full, and helps others to do so as well with his book and his website’s blog and resources, which are linked in our show notes.
Scott H. Young on quickly mastering hard skills, acquiring knowledge, and becoming good at things that seem impossible to you right now. Scott H. Young is an author, entrepreneur, and ultralearner. After learning MIT's 4-year computer science curriculum in less than twelve months, Scott taught himself four new languages in a year. In his book Ultralearning, Scott shares the principles and methods that he and other ultralearners employ to quickly master new skills, acquire knowledge, and become good at things that seem impossible to you right now. Connect with Scott on scotthyoung.com, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. Favorite quotes "All of us are learning. Otherwise, we would be rocks." "Ultralearning is not just a philosophy of learning one thing [and getting better at it] but a constant process of taking on projects and learning new things." "Most people don't do [what would probably work better for learning] because it's kind of scary or frustrating or a little uncomfortable at first." "Learning is any change that happens in the brain that makes you do something better." "There are mental and emotional obstacles that often prevent us from doing what [we] know would really make sense for learning better, because we're afraid or think it will be too frustrating or challenging." "[Deliberate practice] is overriding the habits and patterns that you form." "I'm always learning about learning." "[The Feynman Technique] forces you to articulate what you understand and what you don't." "Paper acts as an extension of your working memory. [Writing things down] is a kind of cognitive enhancement that allows you to think more intelligently about ideas." "The ultralearning ethos: learning is intrinsically hard." In this episode of Hip Squared, we dig into the green earth as we adventure into the wilderness and tend a humble farm. First, Troy talks about the PC game Stardew Valley designed by Eric Barone. This loveable and satisfying farming sim has simple, charming gameplay. After inheriting their uncle's farm, the player must tend to it however they see fit—whether keeping it small and tidy, or expanding as far as their efforts take them. Troy describes how his gameplay style differs from his wife Abby's (beware of cave monsters) and John imagines how a video game farm could inspire a real-life vegetable garden. Then John talks about Wildwood, a children's adventure novel written by Colin Meloy (also the lead singer of the Decemberists) and illustrated by Carson Ellis. This married pair weave a story that begins in Portland, Oregon but soon moves into the Impassable wilderness, a wild and magical forest just outside the city. When Prue's baby brother is kidnapped by crows and taken into these woods, she and her friend Curtis embark on an adventure to rescue him. Including talking, anthropomorphic animals, forest magic and a complicated tale. John recommends this book for both children and adults who enjoy young adult literature. It's also the first book of a trilogy.Produced by Maplex Monk. Thanks for listening to Hip Squared! You can now subscribe to Hip Squared on Apple Podcasts (please subscribe, rate, and review). Lore Boys are here with everyone's favorite Harvest Moon clone, Stardew Valley. James has been elbow deep in it for weeks now, only venturing out to drag himself to the dull light of his office, and Ethan got too drunk on power to remember it was his turn to host, we figured a little dip in the stardew valley to talk about Nutbustin' for Stardrops was appropriate. We do our best to tackle the game's meager lore and also the real-life story of Eric Barone, the wunderkin who made the game. This week, Ethan has a hot new idea for a dating sim, Peter talks about Terraria, and James tries so hard to get us to say the game's only devs name right. As always, we super appreciate you listening, and hope that if you enjoy the show you'll tell your friends and leave us a review on iTunes and the rest our social media (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.) We wanna hear from you guys, so shoot us an email at loreboyspodcast@gmail.com or send your local hermit named Linus to do it. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Last year, I celebrated the season with a trove of icy blue tracks from wintery video game levels, with none of the mirth and jingle of most Christmastime music. This year, I intended to go cheerier… but I didn’t, and instead I’m given you more chilled-to-the-touch levels that evoke Christmas eve in an ice cave. Stay cool. No cheeky intros. No elaborate song lyrics sprinkled through. Today, it’s just wrestling. I’m Jason Bryant and this is Short Time Shots, a sometimes daily rundown of the day’s wrestling scores and more. There will be more on the AWL in other episodes, since this show concentrates on the college levels of the sport. Highlights though were Jordan Oliver knocking off Zain Retherford, Alex Dieringer beating Isaiah Martinez, Cory Clark beating Tony Ramos and Kyven Gadson giving a very short interview after he beat Jacob Kasper to get to the hospital, where he had a baby on the way - like literally any minute. All those results on Trackwrestling. Check the daily newsletter at mattalkonline.com/news or the @mattalkonline twitter for links to the recaps. In Las Vegas, as always, there were some solid upsets and individual wins. Ohio State put six into the semis, so that’s the short version. All that can be viewed at Flowrestling. But here’s some of the quarterfinal notables from Friday in Lost Wages. Notables from each weight: At 125: North Dakota State’s Brent Fleetwood stormed into the semifinals with back-to-back wins over Louie Hayes and Zeke Moisey. He’ll face top-seeded Sebastian Rivera of Northwestern, while down low, it’s a 2-3 matchup with Minnesota’s Sean Russell facing Oregon State’s Ronnie Bresser. At 133: Pittsburgh’s Micky Phillipi upended Minnesota’s Ethan Lizak 4-0 in the quarters to reach Saturday’s semifinals. He’ll face second-seeded Luke Pletcher of Ohio State, while up top, it’s No. 1 Nick Suriano of Rutgers and No. 4 John Erneste of Mizzou. Erneste is 3-0 with three first-period falls. At 141: Second-seeded Jaydin Eierman gave up a reversal and then outlasted Michigan’s Kanen Storr 3-2 in the tiebreakers. Eierman will see a familiar foe, Illinois’ Mikey Carr in the semis. Up top, it’s one vs. four with Joey McKenna of Ohio State meeting Northern Iowa’s Josh Alber. Storr, by the way, knocked off Chad Red of Nebraska in the Round of 16. All-American Red was bounced out of the tournament in the consolations. At 149: Clarion’s Brock Zacherl upended All-American Grant Leeth and his neckbrace 3-2 in the quarterfinals courtesy of a third-period takedown. Zacherl will face Micah Jordan of Ohio State in the semis, while fifth-seeded Mitch Finesilver of Duke reached the semis after beating All-American Max Thomsen of Northern Iowa 3-2. Finesilver will face Rutgers’ Anthony Ashnault. At 157: The on-again, off-again Griffin Parriott is on again. The Purdue sophomore beat All-American Tyler Berger of Nebraska 4-2 in the quarters and earned the right to face fifth-seeded Taleb Rahmani of Pittsburgh. Rahmani beat Eric Barone of Illinois, who had previously bumped off Ohio State’s Ke-shawn Hayes. Down low, it’s Kennedy Monday of UNC against Ryan Deakin of Northwestern. At 165: Michigan’s Logan Massa seems back in his Super Saiyan Level 3 form. He breezed into the semis and will face fourth-seeded Isaiah White of Nebraska. Just so you know, while looking up the correct spelling of Saiyan, I got distracted by the Dragon Ball wiki. Where were you when you first watched the Namek saga? Down low, Mekhi Lewis of Virginia Tech upended red-hot Branson Ashworth of Wyoming 3-1. He’ll face Northern Iowa’s Bryce Steiert in the semis. In just three short minutes, the Planet Namek … that was the longest three minutes in television history. At 174, all top four seeds reached the semis as Michigan’s Myles Amine will face Nebraska’s Mikey Labriola and Northern Iowa’s Taylor Lujan will face Missouri’s Daniel Lewis. At 184, second-seeded Taylor Venz of Nebraska was down 8-4 with riding time against in the third period when he countered a Nino Bonaccorsi shot by stepping over a chestlock and earning the fall. Venz will face sixth-seeded Drew Foster of Northern Iowa, who beat All-American Zack Zavatsky of Virginia Tech 9-6 in the quarters. Up top, Myles Martin of Ohio State has been rock solid. He’ll face All-American Max Dean of Cornell in the semis. Dean majored North Carolina’s Chip Ness in the quarters. At 197, unseeded Greg Bulsak of Clarion picked off Virginia Tech’s Tom Sleigh 8-1 in the quarters to reach his semifinal opponent, 10th-seeded Eric Schultz of Nebraska. Second-seeded Nathan Traxler of Stanford was upset by Virginia’s Jay Aiello early, then Schultz edged Aiello 3-2 in the quarterfinals. Up top, Kollin Moore of Ohio State is back in action after returning from the U23 Worlds. He’ll face Purdue’s Christian Brunner, the fifth-seed, in the semis there. Brunner beat Tanner Orndorff of Utah Valley in the quarters. Orndorff majored Drexel’s No. 4 seed Stephen Loiseau in the Round of 32. At 285 pounds, unseeded Chase Singletary of Ohio State pulled two upsets on his way to the semis. First he beat Northwestern’s Conan Jennings 6-5 in the Round of 16, then he pinned Central Michigan’s Matt Stencel in the quarters. Singletary will face Tate Orndorff of Utah Valley in the semis, while up top, Gable Steveson of Minnesota is almost to the point of going full heel turn as he bullied his way into the semis with some powerful bonus victories. Steveson will face North Carolina’s Cory Daniel in the semis. Team-wise, it’s Ohio State, Missouri, Nebraska and Northern Iowa leading the back, with a host of teams bunched between 5-13. Now to some duals, where we had two historical feats occur in Pennsylvania. First, unranked Princeton beat Lehigh for the first time in 50 years and for the first time ever at Lehigh. While the eighth-ranked Mountain Hawks aren’t even close to full strength, you wrestle with who you’ve got and on Friday night, Princeton got them. Patrick Brucki’s win over Jake Jakobsen at 197 sealed the deal for this one. Further west in Lewisburg, the first sellout in Bucknell wrestling history with over 4,200 fans present saw No. 1 Penn State extend its dual meet win streak to 47 with a 42-3 win over the host Bison. No. 7 NC State survived a scare as they went to Norfolk, Virginia and beat Old Dominion 16-15. This one was supposed to take place on Thursday, but a bomb threat at ODU forced the school to postpone women’s basketball and wrestling events. The rest might have served the host Monarchs well as Larry Early upended second-ranked Hayden Hidlay at 157 pounds. That offset NC State’s upset at 141, where Jamal Morris beat Sa’Derian Perry 7-2. Tariq Wilson’s bonus point at 133 proved to be the difference. No. 20 Lock Haven had over 2,300 fans at Thomas Fieldhouse watch the Bald Eagles pick up an EWL win over George Mason 28-10. Other action in Division I saw Indiana beat Northern Illinois 20-14 and Ohio beat Appalachian State 25-16. In the NAIA, Grand View extended its win streak to 66 duals in a row as they blanked Benedictine 56-0. Out in Great Falls at the Battle of the Rockies duals, which saw schools from Division II, the NAIA and the NJCAA, McKendree won three duals, as did Embry-Riddle. Colorado School of Mines won a Division II tri over Chadron State and San Francisco State. Other multiple-dual winners on Friday included Eastern Oregon, Lindenwood, Northwest Kansas Tech, Providence (the one in Montana) and Spartanburg Methodist. Looking at some other tournaments, Johnson & Wales leads the New Standard Corporation Invitational hosted by York College - the one in Pennsylvania. The Wildcats lead Ithaca, Baldwin Wallace and Roger Williams. Quarters kick up tomorrow, so there should be rowdiness. Couple of national champions meet in the quarters too, as Division III champ Jay Albis of Johnson & Wales meets Colton Messick of the Newport News Apprentice School, the returning NCWA national champion. Messick was coached by my old roommate, Matt Wright, at Warwick H.S. in Newport News, Virginia. Same one where Michael Vick - and my brother actually - graduated from. 12. In this month's podcast, we discuss Colonialism in games. To start off, we play 'Dog Eat Dog', a role-playing game that aims to simulate the experience of pacific island inhabitants through the process of colonisation. Stardew Valley stands as one of those rare projects that's both a solo developer project and a title that aimed to revive and popularize an entire genre. Released in 2016 by Eric Barone (aka ConcernedApe), Stardew Valley became a sensation for its well realized vision of a rural farming community rich in character and the family farm that players restore to glory that helps to bring them all together. Barone conceived of the project as a way to correct what he saw as a failing in more recent Harvest Moon titles - and his work proved to be extremely popular. To date, Stardew Valley has been ported to almost every system out there (and it just recently received an update that adds horses in hats and multiplayer)!

So, for March 23, in QS, we cover Eric Barone in GQ, PUBG mobile filled with bots, Nintendo's E3 Smash tournament in addition to why Nintendo should surprise release the game like an album. Then we look a little at Tencent doubling profits & partnering with Ubisoft & why Sea of Thieves is a lot like No Man's Sky. Then, for The Final Lap, Solo takes a dive into how it seems to finally be Mobile gaming's moment & how there are growing indicators that the movement is spreading from the East to the West.

Finally, wrestling has COME BACK TO FRESNO. With apologies to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, that’s the top story for Friday, November 17. This is SHORT TIME SHOTS, I’m Hall of Fame announcer, broadcaster and writer Jason Bryant What isn’t a top story -- I actually owned the original version of NBA Jam with Charles Barkley on the Phoenix Suns instead of THUNDER Dan Majerle. But he coaches Grand Canyon and they cut wrestling, so screw them. While the score wasn’t super important, the fact we had wrestling at the SaveMart Center in Fresno, California for the first time in almost 11 years, that’s the deal. Sure, 14th-ranked Illinois piled up bonus points and Isaiah Martinez won his 100th collegiate match, but we saw a school President, Joseph Castro, man up and say “This area cares about wrestling and we’re bringing back our team.” Donkey like former AD Thomas Boeh might have put the team on ice for a while, but coach Troy Steiner and his crew are going to build a winner in the Central Valley That didn’t happen on Friday though. Two big wins were registered by the Bulldogs, whom I represented today with #WrestlingShirtADay. Kristian Olivas topped Eric Barone at 149 and Greg Gaxiola knocked off Kyle Langenderfer. I just want to play some Nerfherder after saying Langenderfer. Santa has a Mullet -- look it up, it’s a song by Nerfherder. Oh, I-Mar improved to 100-2 all-time. He’s good. Top-ranked Penn State is probably the best road draw attendance-wise in the country. The Nittany Lions saw over 3,000 witness their 40-2 blitzkrieg of Binghamton on Friday night. Seven of the Penn State wins came via bonus points with Jason Nolf and Zain Retherford each earning falls, while Bo Nickel fell to third in the Penn State individual Hodge standings merely capturing a major decision. The one Penn State loss? You guessed it, 125. No. 6 Minnesota headed west to Brookings and beat No. 16 South Dakota State in front 3,063 fans at Frost Arena. The highlight there was at 133 pounds where No. 1 Seth Gross topped No. 6 Mitch McKee 9-4. South Dakota State did score a modest upset at 157 pounds where Luke Zilverberg beat 10th-ranked Jake Short 5-2. No. 8 Iowa swept the Iowa City Duals. In other news, water is wet. Zack Zavatsky needed overtime to get past Bryce Carr at 184 pounds in the top bout of the night as No. 9 Virginia Tech beat host Chattanooga 28-7. Little homer note, B.C. LaPrade picked up his first career dual meet victory. He’s from New Kent, which is right up the road from where I grew up and he’s named after a headache power for a reason. Even without a couple of its regular starters, 10th-ranked Lehigh flew past No. 24 Edinboro 27-14. Scott Parker continued his torrid start, pinning nationally ranked Korbin Myers at 5:33 to spark the Mountain Hawks victory. Also of note for Lehigh, Gordon Wolf earned a 16-8 major decision over Austin Matthews at 165. On paper, Cornell didn’t look that strong. On the mat, No. 19 Cornell said we’re Ivy Leaguers, whatever that means. The Big Red won seven of 10 and got three falls en route to a 30-10 pasting of No. 13 Northern Iowa. Chaz Tucker set the tone with a fall over Jack Wagner to start the dual at 133, while Jon Jay Chavez and Ben Darmstadt also picked up pins. 184-pound freshman Max Dean, the younger brother of four-time All-American Gabe, announced his presence Nuke Laloosh style -- with authority -- beating All-American Drew Foster 9-7. Also in the dual, UNI’s Taylor Lujan beat All-American Brandon Womack 5-3. Oh, and that freshman, Yianni Diakomihalis, he beat Josh Alber 5-2. Two-time All-American Bryce Meredith topped super freshman Chad Red 11-5 at 141, but that was the only read bright spot for the Cowboys as the Huskers won seven out of 10 to cruise. Nebraska’s Tyler Berger outlasted Archie Colgan 5-4 at 157, while Nebraska’s Isaiah White, last year’s Division II champion at Notre Dame College, topped Branson Ashworth 7-5. Ryan Solomon’s major decision at heavyweight rallied No. 25 Pittsburgh past CSU Bakersfieid. Things weren’t so hot for the Panthers otherwise, as No. 18 Wisconsin declawed Pitt 26-6. Yes, cliché puns! Elsewhere, Virginia topped Gardner-Webb 30-11. The Wahoos picked up falls from Louie Hayes at 125 and Andrew Atkinson at 165. In Division II, No. 6 Pitt-Johnstown topped PSAC rival Kutztown 24-10. Five of the six ranked Mountain Cat wrestlers picked up victories, including a technical fall at 174 pounds from 2016 D2 champion Tyler Reinhart. Kutztown’s Ryan Appleby, ranked fifth, did knock off 11th-ranked D.J. Sims 5-3 at heavyweight. In the NAIA, fifth-ranked Providence welcomed a new member to the family as head coach Caleb Schaeffer and his wife Annie welcomed Kamden Kendrick to the world. He’s already able to take dad down. The school, formerly known as Great Falls, gave Coach Schaeffer a nice “it’s a boy” gift, beating Warner Pacific 34-11. Sixth-ranked University of the Cumberlands -- they’re coached by Chris Fleeger -- the Patriots beat Indiana Tech 31-13. No. 11 Southern Oregon also beat Eastern Oregon in a directional battle in the Cascade Conference. And of note in the junior college ranks, Western Wyoming topped Northwest College 30-15. What’s notable about a junior college dual between teams most of you have probably never heard of? Well, Uzbekistan native Nodir Safarov, who’s ranked in the WORLD, is wrestling at 133 pounds for Northwest College. He had a fall in 26 seconds. BOOM SHAKA LAKKA. Eric Barone made Stardew Valley by himself. It was hard, but he nailed it. Here's how he did it.
