It's time to witness what you were previously denied as a reader. Jadzia Axelrod returns to the podcast, talking full spoilers about her new weekly DC Pride event series, Justice League: Dream Girls. Done in collaboration with co-writer Nicole Maines, illustrators Nicola Scott, J. Bone, Ted Brandt, Ro Stein, and a mess load of others, this series reunites superheroes Galaxy and Dreamer immediately after the harrowing events of Justice League Intergalactic. They awaken as princess and champion of the Amazons, rescuing someone who sure looks a lot like Steve Trevor before being propelled into a dramatically different, animated Gotham landscape. Reality and unreality blend together. This week's episode offers a perfect opportunity for reflection: Jadzia Axelrod contemplating the non-linear path that her precious character has taken from Galaxy: The Pretties Star to Hawkgirl to Galaxy: As the World Falls Down to Justice League: Dream Girls. We discuss why her Galaxy pairs so beautifully with Nicole Maines' Dreamer, the tricky oppositions these two characters faced after Justice League Intergalactic, and how their trip through iconic DC storylines in Dream Girls reveals the brilliance and joy readers were previously denied in their comics. Justice League: Dream Girls #1 is out now from DC Comics, with each issue in the four-issue event hitting every Wednesday in June. It's written by Jadzia Axelrod and Nicole Mains, illustrated by Nicola Scott, J. Bone, Ted Brandt, and Ro Stein, colored by Marissa Louise and Dearbhla Kelly, and lettered by Jodie Troutman and Frank Cvetkovic. To continue this conversation with Jadzia Axelrod, make sure you're following her Website and BlueSky. This Week's Sponsors This June, Top Shelf Productions is bringing you unforgettable stories from the deeply personal to the absolutely colossal. Then, on June 23rd, buckle up for Minnie Pouches in the MicroRealm! From Caleb Goellner and Eric Lide comes a wildly imaginative all-ages adventure about a super-anxious super-strong girl battling pizza dinosaurs, laser robots, and floating nightmares across bizarre dimensions to rescue her pets and save her family. Today on Word Balloon, we're catching up with one of comics' most distinctive visual storytellers, Rod Reis.Rod is taking on a huge creative challenge with DC's new Elseworlds Supergirl series, serving as the complete artistic force behind the book. Writing the visual language, designing the worlds, drawing, painting, and bringing every page to life. The series imagines a dramatically different destiny for Krypton's last children. In this reality, Kara Zor-El and baby Kal-El share the same escape rocket from Krypton, launching them into a sprawling science-fiction adventure that takes the Superman mythology into entirely new territory. One of the most striking aspects of the book is Rod's reimagining of Krypton itself. From the architecture and technology to the appearance and culture of its people, he's creating a version of the doomed world unlike anything we've seen before. We'll also look back at Rod's acclaimed work on New Mutants and the X-Men line, where his painted style brought a dreamlike and often unsettling atmosphere to the mutant corner of the Marvel Universe. And we'll talk about his remarkable career journey. From breaking into American comics as a colorist, collaborating with some of the industry's top artists, to evolving into one of comics' most accomplished full-spectrum creators whose work is instantly recognizable on sight.

"If any blame or fault attaches to the attempt, it is mine alone." This is the end of the announcement Supreme Allied Commander General Dwight David Eisenhower had prepared in June 1944 in case the D-Day landings failed. He never had to deliver it, but the fact that he wrote it tells you all you need to know about how precarious the success of the invasion really was. And at the center of that uncertainty was something no army could control: the weather. This is the premise of the new major motion picture Pressure, the story of the small team of meteorologists trying to predict the unpredictable. Guest host Dr. Mark Jacobson sits down with the screenwriter of Pressure, David Haig, and the film's co-writer and director, Anthony Maras, to discuss how a simple weather forecast proved to be a critical piece of intelligence. *Note: It is Joan Clarke, not Joy. Yes, we need to stay vigilant to make sure his slush fund is truly doomed. But, all indications are that he's being forced to drop the idea. Why? Key Takeaways Audit your top ten competitors before making a single design decision Prioritize closet space, in-unit laundry, lighting, and cabinetry in unit renovations Full-size stackable washers and dryers outperform compact units in resident satisfaction Furniture layout planning, including TV placement and door positioning, directly affects rentability Looking high-end and being expensive are not the same thing Cheap materials that fail early cost more over time than durable materials installed once Differentiate from the competition rather than replicate it Topics What Residents Actually Want in a Unit Walk-in or large closets are now a baseline expectation, not a premium feature In-unit full-size stackable laundry is the preferred standard for most unit types Updated lighting, countertops, and kitchen cabinetry signal value to prospective residents Common Design Mistakes in Multifamily Layouts are not evaluated for furniture placement before construction or renovation TV placement and couch space are often afterthought considerations Excessive interior doors fragment rooms and reduce usable wall space Simple layout adjustments, such as moving a door 12 inches, can unlock meaningfully higher rents How to Stand Out Against the Competition List every competitor, their amenities, finishes, unit quality, and rents before setting a design direction Identify what the market is missing, then build toward that gap Boutique, differentiated spaces lease faster than properties that blend in Marcy cites a university-area project where a speakeasy-style hangout space and boutique design drove strong lease-up against large institutional competitors Looking Premium Without Overspending A $1.50 tile can look high-end with the right design approach Affordable housing projects should look as good as the budget allows, not be deliberately toned down Cheap, low-durability materials often require costly mid-cycle replacements that eliminate any initial savings Work with established vendors who can offer warranties and guarantee product longevity Designer Bank: Design Education for Developers Designer Bank is an online platform offering modules on Revit, rendering, space planning, lighting, flooring, and tile Modules are taught by industry practitioners with deep product knowledge Targeted at developers, investors, and anyone who wants to make better-informed design decisions

In this episode of The Truth In This Art, the guest is Dr. David O. Fakunle II!About Dr. David O. Fakunle II: Dr. David Fakunle II is a Baltimore native, academic, and self-described mercenary for change and celestial body for change who has spent 25 years using art and storytelling for liberation. He is an assistant professor at Morgan State University in the School of Community Health and Policy and associate faculty at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He serves as director of the TEACH Division (Transforming Equity through Arts, Culture and Health) at the National Great Blacks in Wax Museum, working intentionally at the intersection of arts, culture, and health. We talk about his evolution as a mercenary and celestial body for change, his role in developing the Urban Cipher game (originally called the Game of Appreciation) during his postdoc at Morgan State University —a Monopoly-style game that models how inequities are built into systems. He discusses his contribution to the paper "Life as We Tell It: A Revolution Through Narratives and Creative Expression," which explores narrative as a determinant of health, and his framework for understanding data: stories are qualitative data that answer "how" and "why," while quantitative data answers "who, what, where, when."Fakunle shares insights from his recent work at the National Academy of Medicine in DC on a national initiative to build trust between communities and health science. He reflects on teaching his 16-person qualitative research class and helping students understand that AI cannot replicate context—only humans can bring meaning and circumstances to statistics. He introduces his concept of the "existential determinants of health"—five universal virtues all humans want: to be acknowledged, appreciated, respected, understood, and loved. He emphasizes the need to embrace stories, not just tolerate them, because "in the stories are your answers," and discusses how storytellers preserve and uplift context in ways that institutions and policy makers need to understand. We also talk about what this work has taught him, the importance of time as the greatest teacher, showing up in person, trusting others to tell his story, and why physical presence still matters in an increasingly digital world.Photo courtesy of subject. Jen and Noam are late again, but that's Noam's fault because he's a Euphoria fan (?) now. But we don't just discuss the season (series?) finale of Euphoria, we discuss the DC based America 250 events that are falling apart in real time because Trump can't keep his hands off the celebrations. And yes, despite the feigned indignation on the topic, it's a little hard to say Trump isn't making this about Trump when there's huge banners of his face on government buildings in DC. And he decides to cancel a concert in lieu of his making a speech. Primary season has officially started, and we've already got two controversial candidates to talk about; Graham Platner and Ken Paxton. While Paxton's flaws are well known and documented, including stealing money and cheating on his wife, Platner is stacking up new ones by the day. So we ponder the big question - when does it all become too much to support, even in the pursuit of power? For our WAWC, we do a spoiler free discussion of Backrooms, the new movie based on the viral YouTube videos created by Kane Parsons. We both agree - if you are a fan of A24 horror films, you'll like where they went with this concept. We also discuss the idea of taking a concept that doesn't have a plot, strictly speaking, and translating that into a film. And, as mentioned, we discuss the ending of season three of Euphoria which does look to be the series finale because we're a little confused as to where Levinson would even go from here with the remaining characters.

This podcast is released as part of a collaboration between Fiftyfaces Productions and the Always a Pensions Angle Podcast produced by DG Publishing. Nick Dixon is Head of Pensions, Avon Pension Fund, which he has led since 2022. Avon Pension Fund serves c.140,000 members in the public sector across Bristol, Bath and surrounding areas and is now a partner fund of Local Pensions Partnership. Previously Nick advised private sector wealth platforms on their pensions and investment proposition. He was CIO of Aegon UK from 2013-21, focused on DC workplace pensions. From 2001-13 Nick was Marketing Director for wealth & pensions platform Quilter. Our conversation has a particular focus on an engagement exercise that Avon conducted around the fund's investment in aerospace and defence companies. Nick explained that during 2024 and 2025 the fund received a lot of petitions from its members who were deeply concerned about the war in Gaza, and the indirect role of aerospace and defence companies in supplying Israel. In response to that, a critical stakeholder issue, they conducted a survey of all members. We opened up the issue to bring out a set of trade-offs, including the importance of NATO defence, the concern about arms impacts on the environment, the fact that they kill innocent civilians. The consultation had reasonable engagement - with 11% of the fund members responding, and the result was that 42% wanted to divest, about 47% said they'd like to remain invested, and about 11% said they didn't know. The fund did not consider this a clear mandate to divest – and therefore decided to remain invested. We discuss the importance of engagement generally as well as this critical, sometimes emotive, issue, which has emerged for many local authority pension funds. We reflect on whether surveys and engagement in this way could be a way forward for other funds in the future as these issues continue to gain traction with the underlying beneficiaries and stakeholders.
The Voice Of GO(r)D podcast is delighted to finally bring you a discussion with Mr Cole Stevens of Stevens Trucking out of El Reno, Oklahoma. The son of a trucking family, Cole, like myself, is looking around at the state of the industry today and has decided to take action, which now includes running for a seat in the Oklahoma State House.A member of American Truckers United, Cole has been putting in some very hard yards in advocating for reforms to CDL issue and for putting an end to the insourced labor scams that have made our interstates so much more dangerous in recent years. Between many trips to DC in helping organize Dalilah's Law, and working locally in Oklahoma with his own state government to pass SB20, Cole has been relentless in his pursuit of a safe and profitable future for the American trucking industry and its drivers, and shares with my listeners and I some details of the latest battle.Cole and I recorded this back in March in anticipation of my recent appearance on Tucker Carlson, where I gave Tucker the breaking news about a lawsuit Stevens Trucking, along with another company in Oklahoma, have launched against some of the same bad actors at play in the recent Montgomery v Caribe SCOTUS decision. Now that Tucker has finally released that episode, I can let rip with this one.Cole breaks down some of this lawsuit for us, the claims seeking redress, and what has caused such a great rift in the industry between brokerages and asset based carriers aka actual trucking companies with actual trucks. You can find my most recent appearance with Tucker here - https://tuckercarlson.com/tucker-show-gord-magil-060126You can follow Cole on Twitter - https://x.com/StevensOK26over on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/cole-stevens-3345329a/and on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/cole.stevens.73594Cole's Oklahoma campaign FB page - https://www.facebook.com/STEVENSOKHD51Thanks for listening, and as always, any questions, comments, suggestions, corrections or Hate Mail can be directed to me here - gordilocks@protonmail.com

EPISODE 371 - Clark welcomes Darrell (aka DC) back as cohost where they first discuss the $5.1 million Victor Wembanyama 1/1 Black Prizm rookie card sale. Then they also provide their initial thoughts on the PSA Value Service shut down announced recently. Then for Hobby Headlines, based on a recent Yahoo! Sports article on comparing the value of Shohei Ohtani cards vs vintage cards (where 95% of a recent poll chose vintage over Ohtani), they ask whether that's a sign of the Ohtani card market about to see a regression. And they also get into whether vintage cards will remain relevant in the future as newer collectors are further removed from when the old school players actually played live.Next, DC talks about his latest pick-ups from the three card shows he set up at over the past month, before they end the episode with their regular weekly segment called Pick 1.--------------------------CONNECT WITH US!Instagram: @cardstothemoon | @fivecardguys (Clark) | @yntegritysportscards (Hyung) | @tradeyouatrecess (John)Website: https://fivecardguys.com/podcastDaily Auctions (w/ affiliate links): https://fivecardguys.com/dailyauctionsIf you have any questions about the hobby that you would like addressed, email us at hello@fivecardguys.com or DM us on Instagram at @cardstothemoon or @fivecardguys.

Trump wants his face on the money. Not on a coin after he's gone. Not on a statue some future generation can decide to keep or tear down. On a live, circulating $250 bill — while he's still in office and while it's still illegal under federal law to put a living person on US currency. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent went on television and called it nothing untoward. The Angry Middle is calling it what it actually is: a strongman vanity project at a moment when most Americans can't scrape $250 together for groceries, gas, and rent. In this conversation, Paul and the crew break down the legacy push — the commemorative coin, the Trump-branded passports out of DC, the National Park Pass swap, the Kennedy Center rebrand, the arch on the White House lawn — and why this is all gas, no brakes executive ego dressed up as patriotism. They get into the Republican holdouts (Tillis, Cassidy, Cornyn) who Trump has already purged and who are about to hand him an embarrassing no vote, the ten-year design timeline that makes the whole thing a fantasy anyway, and the cabinet-meeting sycophancy culture that produces ideas this absurd. Then a hard left turn to the Knicks Finals — and a non-partisan plea to keep both Trump and Mamdani out of Madison Square Garden before they jinx the whole run. -WATCH full video of this episode here. -Join IVA and stand up to Trump's Forever Wars. -Learn more about Paul's work to elect a new generation of independent leaders with Independent Veterans of America. -Learn more about American Veterans for Ukraine here. -Remember Independent is an Attitude. -Learn more about The Headstrong Project for Veterans, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), and Department of Veterans Affairs resources in your area. Four STEM teachers. Four trips that changed students forever. From Panama to the UK to MIT to DC. When a student does real science in a real place, STEM stops being abstract. Miranda Grabowski's biology class planted mangroves in Panama. Angela Cannava's biomed students ran a live DNA fingerprinting experiment in London. Karen Spencer's seventh graders toured MIT and Harvard in Boston. Edith Cortez's eighth graders from Laredo, Texas competed at science museums in Washington DC. In every story, something very cool happens: students look up at the scientists and engineers in the room and realize — "I could do this for a living." In this episode, you'll learn: - How to align a STEM trip to what you're already teaching in the classroom - What happens when a student's classroom finally connects to what scientists actually do - Why taking students to see real labs, real campuses, and real professionals changes what they believe is possible - How teachers in different states and different budget situations made these trips happen — and why they'd do it again Show notes and resources at https://www.coolcatteacher.com/e936 Sponsor. Today's show is sponsored by EF Explore America and their STEM Tours. Lead your students on a STEM tour to places on the cutting edge of innovation to show them how STEM thinking often shows up where you least expect it. Imagine your students coding robots with MassRobotics at MIT, exploring marine ecosystems in Florida's coral reefs, or even sitting down to talk with a former spy in Washington DC. If you want to inspire your students and give them a fresh perspective on the power of STEM, visit efexploreamerica.com/STEM. All opinions are those of the teachers and the host. If this episode moved you, leave a review wherever you're listening — it helps other remarkable educators find the show. I read every one.
Russia Bonds We know we promised to talk about Venezuela. But we got distracted by a filing in the district courts in DC. A claim for payment on Tsarist bonds from 1917, being made in 2026. How could we pass that up? We also confess to being intrigued that the lawyers for Russia have asked that the judge in DC — Judge Friedrich — give Rule 11 sanctions against the plaintiffs. There are clear potential barriers to this claim on the merits but asking for Rule 11 sanctions on this basis seems a bit rich. Plus, we love the resuscitation of old Tsarist or Imperial bonds. Quitting a stable job to write full-time sounds bold, until you hear what it actually takes. Author Carla Vergot, a former special education teacher and the voice behind the Lily Barlow series, joins us to talk about the moment a planned sabbatical became a life pivot, including her husband's cancer diagnosis, which arrived just as she left teaching. She shares how writing became both an escape and a survival tool, and why that pressure pushed her stories to be lighter, funnier, and more hopeful. We also get practical about building a sustainable author career: growing a Facebook reader group that feels like a community rather than a sales feed, booking bookstore signings, experimenting with TikTok, booking podcasts through PodMatch, and navigating publisher changes with Morgan James. If you care about the real writing life—doubt, momentum, and craft—this one's for you. Subscribe, share it with a writer friend, and leave a review.Send us Fan MailSupport the show

WGTS is one of the most fascinating success stories in Washington radio. It's a 23,000 watt non-commercial station, yet in the latest Nielsen ratings it pulled a 5.7 share, landing in the number three spot behind only WTOP and WAMU.So how does a Christian music station compete with some of the biggest brands in radio? On this episode, Rob Conway takes us behind the scenes at WGTS to break down the station's secret sauce. Rob explains what WGTS is doing differently than many other stations in the market, including investing heavily in audience research, keeping live and local DJs on the air from 5 a.m. until midnight, and building a strong connection with listeners both on-air and in the community. We also talk about the history of the station, including the transition from classical music to contemporary Christian music in 1997, and how that decision completely changed the trajectory of the station. We dive into how WGTS raises money without commercials, who they see as their real competition in the DC market, and why the station has been able to grow while so many other radio stations are struggling.More from DCRTV:DCRTV.comNewsletter signup: https://dcrtv.com/newsletterFollow DCRTV on FacebookSupport DCRTV on PatreonBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/dcrtv-washington-radio-and-tv-podcast--6152954/support.
