Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. US bureau chief Jacob Magid joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. According to a Channel 12 Israeli television report, later today, Israel will present new maps for the IDF’s redeployment in the event of a ceasefire-hostage release deal along the Morag Corridor and perimeter around Gaza after Hamas rejected its previous offer. Magid updates us on the status of the Doha talks and speaks about the blame game from both sides. We hear about how the Trump administration is playing the "Witkoff card" -- or when US envoy to the Mideast Steve Witkoff will finally join the talks and what it will signify when he does. We turn to the results of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's trip to Washington, DC, even as he comes home without any overt deals. What else was on the table for the trip and what was accomplished? Over the past day, security forces arrested six people in connection with an incident in the West Bank yesterday, where settlers allegedly killed two Palestinians on Friday. US citizen Saif al-Din Kamil Abdul Karim Musalat was allegedly beaten to death in Sinjil, a village north of Ramallah, the Palestinian Authority health ministry said. A second man, Mohammed Rizq Hussein al-Shalabi, 23, died after being shot during the attack, according to the Palestinian Authority health ministry. Magid describes what we know about this incident and weighs in on whether any rigorous investigation will be launched. Check out The Times of Israel's ongoing liveblog for more updates. Yesterday, I went to see James Gunn's new Superman movie starring David Corenswet. What should I expect? The dark, grim, and joylessness of the Snyderverse? Nope. This movie was a lot of fun with a lot of excitement. It has been criticized in the media as being too 'woke' or political, but I didn't see it that way. This was not a great movie but was a very good one and a promising start to the new (and hopefully improved) DC cinematic universe!

Jace and Rocky give their thoughts on Superman, the highly anticipated DC film which kicks off the James Gunn " Gods and Monsters" era. The guys start with with spoiler free thoughts about the film overall and their veiwing experiences. With many people calling this film the most "comic book-y" movie they have ever seen, just what does that mean and how do the story, pacing, characters and setting of Superman play into that feeling. Then it's time to pause the episode and go see Superman youself if you haven't yet, because the deep dive into character, plot and story beats begins! Superman, Lex, Lois and Jimmy are all discussed individually and compared to their comic book counter parts. The same is true for The Justice Gang, Ultra Man, the Engineer and even Superman's parents, both real and adoptive. Of course no full review would complete without thoughts in Krypto and even Supergirl is touched on. It's not all high praise as fair criticisms about for plot and story choice with a few theories for what Gunn may have made certain decisions and how they could lead into future stories. It's a SUPER-sized episode so dig in!

Elon Musk's embrace of President Trump and his campaign marked a pivotal moment in the 2024 presidential election. Musk was eventually appointed to head the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), where he was tasked with cutting federal spending and reducing the national debt. DOGE moved quickly and decisively, triggering lawsuits and further enraging Trump's critics. Although Musk has since left the Trump administration and experienced a very public fallout with President Trump, DOGE continues to operate and make an impact. Matthew Continetti, Director of Domestic Policy Studies at the American Enterprise Institute, joined FOX News Rundown host Jessica Rosenthal to discuss DOGE, highlighting where it was effective in cutting waste, fraud, and abuse, and where it fell short of the expectations set by Musk and the administration. Continetti, who is featured in FOX Nation's new documentary "DOGE vs. DC," also weighs in on the public spat between Musk and the President, as well as the challenges politicians face when addressing America's debt seriously. We often have to cut interviews short during the week, but we thought you might like to hear the full interview. Today on Fox News Rundown Extra, we will share our entire interview with AEI's Matthew Continetti on the legacy of DOGE. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
If you frequent Collider Ladies Night, you're well aware that I'm a big proponent of filmmaking families — frequent collaborators who stick together and also add new additions to the family every step of the way. Mike Flanagan's “Flanafamily” is a big one, and it's a topic that keeps popping up with Molly Gordon, who's recently found great success collaborating with close friends on films like Theater Camp and Oh, Hi. Yet another top-tier filmmaking family? The one James Gunn started and continues to thrive with, and that family has a member you're going to be seeing a whole of in the coming weeks, months and years. It's Mikaela Hoover. In celebration of the release of Superman, in which Hoover plays Daily Planet gossip columnist Cat Grant, she took the time to swing by the Collider Ladies Night studio and recap her journey to joining three of the biggest franchises of all time - DC, Marvel and, most recently, One Piece. It's a list of accomplishments that certainly can be traced back to Hoover's natural talent, but as we often discuss on Ladies Night, in film and television, finding someone who sees you and what you're capable of can be essential. Hoover found that in Gunn. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Today's episode is a deep dive with writer James Robinson, recorded back in 2011 during a fascinating stretch of his DC Comics career. We cover a lot of ground—from his return to one of his most beloved characters in The Shade, spinning off from the Starman mythos, to the behind-the-scenes realities and editorial limitations that shaped his Justice League of America run.Robinson opens up about his creative choices during the Flashpoint event, particularly his darker take on The Outsider, and how the Superman stand-in Mon-El came to headline the Superman books during a major story pivot. We also talk about the launch of the New 52, and his reimagining of the Justice Society of America and Earth-2, showing how he brought fresh perspective to classic Golden Age characters under a new editorial mandate. Throughout the conversation, James shares his passion for DC's B- and C-list heroes—characters like Solomon Grundy, Donna Troy, and Congorilla—and how he always strived to give them depth and relevance. And for fans of comics history, there's a charming detour into his childhood in England, and how kids in the '70s got their hands on American superhero books across the pond. It's a candid, passionate, and sometimes frustrating look at what it means to write in a shared universe—and what it takes to elevate the characters that don't always get the spotlight.
Look! It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's our main podcast review for this week for James Gunn's "Superman" starring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion & Isabela Merced. Joining me for this review are Sara Clements, Josh Parham, Cody Dericks, Giovanni Lago & Brendan Hodges. There's a lot to discuss as Gunn gives us not only a new standalone Superman film but also attempts to reboot DC's universe on a whole new path into the future. What did we think of it? Please tune in as we discuss the story, its themes and parallels to today's modern world, the casting of these iconic characters and their performances, the action sequences, and visual effects, the score, including the use of John Williams' iconic theme for the Man of Steel, the future of the franchise, its awards season chances, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. Jen Dalton + William Powhida are the founders of the Zero Art Fair. The basic concept that drives the fair is to get great art that artists have in storage—out of storage and into people's lives, irregardless of their financial situation to purchase art. They started the fair upstate last year and this year, they were invited to present it at a highly respected institution in Chelsea, The Flag Art Foundation. Bill and Jen explore and illuminate their ideas and innovations with Dr. Lisa. They discuss their various projects and processes, (their first project together was in 2008), leading up to this fair and where they are now—getting work into art lovers hands, especially if those folks don't have the disposable income to buy art. Such a fun talk to hear how Jen and Bill have really honed their thinking and process, keeping in mind the desire to make these fairs and interventions scaleable and sustainable simply so the plans can be implemented anywhere. I encourage you to listen to this episode as Bill and Jen describe this important project which seeks to go beyond an art fair and open a dialogue about so much more—such as what is the value of art and what is the social purpose of it? October 7th exposed to everyone what many in and around the academy have known for years: American universities—not all, but many—are failing catastrophically to educate the next generation about the history, cultures, and politics of the Middle East. Instead of producing students versed in the region's complexities, these institutions have become factories for ideological activism. And nowhere is this truer than in the case of Israel and its history: Zionism in the modern university classroom is rarely examined as a movement of national liberation but instead as a caricature of colonialism, racism, repression, and occupation. And outside of the classroom, we've seen the most prestigious campuses in the United States transform into nodes of anti-Israel activism and Jew hatred. These are immense and long-standing problems. But instead of just diagnosing their sources and discussing their perils, today we're going to talk to someone who's actually done something about it. Robert Satloff saw this crisis clearly. Having published back in 2001 the eminent historian Martin Kramer's short volume on the corruption of Middle East Studies, Ivory Towers on Sand, Satloff has spent decades watching the field drift toward anti-Israel political advocacy. As the executive director of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, he decided to stop complaining and found his own professional master's program. Working with Pepperdine University, the Washington Institute has established a completely new graduate program designed to train policy professionals with rigorous scholarship and historical accuracy, without anti-Israel bias. The program offers full scholarships, accepts no foreign funding, is fully accredited, and will convene its inaugural cohort in Washington, DC this fall.
Today, we're diving into a no-spoiler review of the brand-new Superman film from writer-director James Gunn. This marks the dawn of a new DC cinematic era, and all eyes are on how Gunn reintroduces the Man of Steel to a modern audience. We'll talk tone, performances, world-building, and how this version stacks up against previous big-screen takes and beyond. No plot points ruined, no twists revealed—just honest impressions of the filmmaking, the cast, and whether this Superman feels like the hero we've been waiting for. If you're on the fence about seeing it, or just want a vibe check before heading to the theater, this episode's for you.
Listen in as Erin and Lindsay discuss: How pursuing joy—not just profit—transformed her real estate career. Why moving from DC to New Hampshire was the smartest “scary” decision she ever made. The 5 pillars of Lindsay's Happy Agent Method for building a business that aligns with your life. How to create a virtual brokerage culture that empowers agent autonomy and sustainability. Why embracing change in today's real estate market is critical—and how to find opportunity anywhere … and more! About Lindsay Dreyer sold her first home in 2004—one of those shiny new McMansions for a national builder—and was instantly hooked. But it didn't take long to realize she wanted more than just a job in real estate. She wanted freedom, fulfillment, and a business that actually felt good to run. By 2011, after years of grinding at brokerages that didn't support top producers the way they should, Lindsay launched her own: City Chic Real Estate. Built from the ground up in the high-stakes Washington, DC market, City Chic became a haven for agents who wanted smart systems, high-touch marketing, and a collaborative, all-inclusive culture. Translation: no bro culture, no burnout, and no BS. Fast forward to today, Lindsay is the founder of Happy Agent Co., where she coaches ambitious agents, leads high-impact workshops, and teaches real estate pros how to build businesses that are profitable, sustainable, and aligned. Her signature framework, The Happy Agent Method, flips the traditional hustle mentality on its head and helps agents grow with intention—without losing their minds (or weekends) in the process. In 2017, Lindsay moved back to her hometown in New Hampshire, where she now runs City Chic semi-remotely, leads Happy Agent Co. nationwide, and lives her best life with her husband Andrew, their three amazing kiddos—Lexi, Will, and Lizzie—and a steady rotation of soup, yoga mats, and joy. America maintains a promise to its citizens. A promise to never leave them behind and stop at nothing to return them to American soil. Over 200 Americans are wrongfully detained or taken hostage each year across the globe. The Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs is responsible for bringing them home. Ambassador Roger Carstens served as the SPEHA from 2020-2025. A West Point Graduate, Green Beret, Army Ranger, and seasoned security leader, Roger and his team brought home close to 70 Americans during his tenure; including high profile cases such as WNBA star Brittney Griner and Wall Street Journal Reporter Evan Gerskovich. Roger joined Fran Racioppi from the McCain Institute in Washington, DC for a conversation on the role of the SPEHA, why countries take Americans for leverage, and just how America negotiates with terrorists. We explore the effects of wrongful detention and hostage taking on America's national power, how families are turned completely upside down, and why only a Warrior Diplomat has the character required to make deals with America's adversaries.Roger and Fran also share the mission of Hostage US; a non-profit instrumental in supporting hostages and wrongful detainees - and their families - through captivity, return and reintegration. Watch, listen or read our conversation. Special thanks to the McCain Institute for hosting us and sharing their mission to defend and enhance human rights across the globe.
