Watch Out For This Chinese Stock Scam! Yes, there's another scam out there trying to part you from your hard-earned money. This has happened many times in recent years and it's occurred in very small Chinese stocks that are vulnerable to manipulation. For some reason some US investors see these and think they've hit it big. US regulators try their best, but typically cannot get access to information in China to go after these people. They're so good they trick people who should know better like businesspeople and even a university professor lost $80,000 in the scam. Their advertisements show up on social media or in messages on WhatsApp and they contain investment advice that looks very convincing with the alure of big, quick returns. They trick investors into thinking that this company is on the verge of something very big and they show that there are already short-term gains, which are engineered by the scammers through manipulative trading. The hucksters come from Malaysia, Taiwan and other places around the world. Some have been so bold that for some investors who lost money, they come back with a second better offer to make up losses on the first investment. Obviously, these people have no shame and the only thing I can recommend is to stay away from small Chinese stocks, especially if you see them advertised on social media. Remember the old saying if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.   Is The Current 401K System Out of Date? The current 401(k) system was first established 42 years ago in 1978 when the use of normal pension plans was in place and when people still worked for a single employer for most of their career. This change in 1978 was beneficial to both the employees and employers, because it gave employees control over their retirement plan and reduced the long-term financial risk for many companies with underfunded pension plans that caused multiple problems form companies during the 2008 financial crisis. Today, times have changed and employees might experience over their 40 years plus work career different jobs that may include side gigs, the launch of a business or two and potentially a change in their job that could take place as much as 12 times over their career. The benefit for employees of the 401(k) is it gives people the ability to control their retirement. If they do leave an employer, they can take their retirement with them and invest it as they see best. The problem of today with changing jobs so many times is unfortunately these employees decide to take and use the money, even though the penalties and taxes due are sometimes as high as 50%. In my opinion, there is not one good reason why you should be taking your retirement money early as you'll pay for it many times over if you reach retirement with little or no retirement funds. Believe me, it is hard being older, but it is devastating to be older with no retirement funds. It has been estimated that frequent job changes over a career can cost as much as $300,000 in retirement savings. I like the new system that has made auto enrollment the default for employees starting a new job, but there is talk that they also want to require when a worker leaves an employer that their 401(k) automatically follows them to the new job and it should contain the same contribution rates as well. I think this is a terrible idea as it could get employees that are changing jobs locked into a terrible new 401(k). It could perhaps be additional administrative work for the new employer who already has enough to take care of when you include all the regulations, they have along with health insurance and current retirement plan administration. Being an employer myself one would not believe how much employers have to do already.    The Unknown Risk of the S&P 500 Many people love investing in the S&P 500 because the recent performance has been very strong. We have talked in the past about the over concentration of technology in the index, but I was shocked to learn that 71% or roughly 351 companies in the index report either non-GAAP income or non-GAAP earnings-per-share. This is dangerous for investors because you're not comparing apples to apples and 89% of those 351 companies that made adjustments had results that appeared better. Wall Street has forced companies to continue to report higher and higher earnings each year and sometimes each quarter or else the stock gets pulverized. Non GAAP numbers were supposed to be allowed to explain extenuating or extraordinary circumstances like a factory fire or a sale of a division, but companies have abused the rule and exclude items like stock based compensation, amortization of intangible assets and currency fluctuations. The one that bugs me the most is restructuring charges that occur every year. For example, Oracle has had a restructuring charge for the past five years. Unfortunately, the SEC is absent on enforcing the rules and non-GAAP earnings have just about become the standard. The problem for investors is with no standard, you cannot compare true earnings of a company. If you have been investing as long as I have, you'll remember the last time the abuse of non-GAAP earnings was during the tech boom and bust. Some people say we are too conservative with our investing and we are missing out on some big gains, but I do believe fundamental investing and understanding the true numbers of a company is far safer and it should produce better returns in the long run.     Financial Planning: What is the Net Investment Income Tax? The Net Investment Income Tax (NIIT) is a 3.8% federal surtax that began in 2013 under the Affordable Care Act, targeting high-income individuals. It applies to any net investment income that exceeds a single taxpayer's modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) of $200,000 or $250,000 for married couples filing jointly. Crucially, these thresholds are not indexed for inflation, so while they may have seemed high in 2013, today they would equal roughly $270,000 and $337,500 in 2025 had they been indexed for inflation, meaning more taxpayers are caught by the tax over time. Net investment income includes interest, dividends, capital gains, rental income, passive business income, and the earnings portion of non-qualified annuity distributions. While non-investment income sources such as wages, IRA withdrawals or conversions, and active business profits aren't directly subject to NIIT, realizing large amounts of those sources can push your MAGI above the threshold, thereby exposing your investment income to this additional tax.  Also keep in mind, most investment income is still taxed as ordinary income as well. Only long-term capital gains and qualified dividends receive the lower capital gain tax treatment, but all investment income may trigger the NIIT if income exceeds the thresholds.   Companies Discussed: Fiserv, Inc. In this episode from the ChinaPower Podcast, Dr. Joseph Torigian joins host Bonny Lin to discuss his newly released book, The Party's Interests Come First: The Life of Xi Zhongxun, Father of Xi Jinping. Dr. Torigian describes the life and struggle of Xi Zhongxun as a party official during the Cultural revolution and specifically the impact he had on the life and political views of Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Dr. Torigian notes that his book utilizes the story of Xi Zhongxun's life as a lens to better understand how the Party works and why both Xi Zhongxun and Xi Jinping believe certain values, such as those of sacrifice and suffering for the greater good, are highly important. He describes how Xi Jinping was viewed positively by his father due to the idea that his son had “eaten more bitterness” than other children, even going as far as to state that Xi Jinping had “the makings of a premier.” Dr. Torigian describes how deeply involved Xi Zhongxun was during his time in the party on the United Front, ethnic policy in Tibet and Xinjiang, and policy towards Taiwan, and how, because of his father's dedication to these issues, Xi Jinping views them as personal unfinished business. Finally, Dr. Torigian describes how Xi Zhongxun's influence on his son has left Xi Jinping with a Hobbesian view of the world and with the idea that the Party is the best tool for helping China assert its rightful place in the world and secure its inevitable march towards greatness.

Welcome to Episode #175 of the Way of the Bible podcast. This is our seventh of eight episodes in our Twenty-Second mini-series entitled The Return of Jesus Christ. On today's episode, we'll continue to scratch the surface of Old Testament prophetic texts in the book of Daniel that speak of the return of Jesus. We are likely living in a period the Bible refers to more than any other. The judgment of the world and the return of Jesus Christ on the Day of the Lord. I asked at the beginning of our last episode, “Are you ready for this?” The return of Jesus Christ. I ask it again. Are you ready? There are so many prophetic plates spinning wildly that all point to a world conflagration. We now have two escalating conflicts in the world and two others about to emerge. Israel and Iran are trading missile launches and fighter bomber sorties over the production of weapon-grade plutonium. The USA stepped into the conflict with a bombing raid of our own on three high-value nuclear targets in Iran. Russia and Ukraine are still killing one another in large numbers on battlefields as well as indiscriminately bombing cities of both nations. The United States and the European Union both have their fingers in this conflict as they try to isolate Russia and weaken its power on the global scene. With northern Europe and the Middle East in states of high tension, China has an excellent opportunity to expand its global power footprint by reclaiming the island of Taiwan. At the same time, North Korea has returned to firing missiles into the ocean to once again make its neighbors aware of their nuclear capabilities. Why is any of this important? Hasn't the world always been in conflict? The answer to this last question is a definitive, NO. The world hasn't always been in conflict. Up until WWI, all wars on the planet were local or regional. Neighbors fighting neighbors for territorial dominance. WWI changed all that when suddenly there was a global disturbance between nations centered in Europe. Many historians do not believe the war ended at the signing of the Armistice of November 11, 1918 but was continued in WWII.  During WWII, the German regime murdered over fifteen million people, including six million Jews, which was a third of their entire population globally. The holocaust was not a one-off but a continual threat the Jews have faced since their dispersion into the world following the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans in 70 AD. Just look up their history, and you'll see they are an often-hated, persecuted, and hunted people, no matter where they settle in the world. Yet through millennia, they have proudly retained their genealogical and national heritage. In the early 19th Century, a Zionist movement began to actively resettle Jews from around the world in a new Israel in the promised land. This Zionist movement was successful in having a British declaration made to that effect in the early 20th Century (Re: Balfour Declaration of November 2, 1917). The land of Palestine, which encompassed Israel, was partitioned to the British after WWI as their spoil of war. Following WWII, and the dissolution of British control over the region, the delegates of the United Nations set aside a small portion of the British partition along the Mediterranean Sea for the nation of Israel. Amid local objections and inflamed emotions, the nation of Israel declared its independence on May 14, 1948. Through subsequent short conflicts with other nations, Israel acquired control over additional disputed lands, including the city of Jerusalem.Since its formation in 1948, Israel has become a powerful nation in the neighborhood and possesses nuclear weapons. It is a continual state of expansion as Jews from around the world migrate to this tiny country. Latest estimates indicate over nine million Jews are currently in Israel. This number constitutes almost one-third of all Jews in the worl

But growth by productivity takes time and effort, Powell warned: With productivity-enhancing things, they typically take longer to be implemented, and then it takes a while for the gains to be shown. During the conversation, Ingrid discusses her motivation for writing the book, which is dedicated to her mother who passed away from stage four undifferentiated spindle cell endometrial cancer. Ingrid shares the emotional journey of her mother's illness, including the challenges of caregiving from a distance during the COVID-19 pandemic and the complex visa process required to visit Taiwan. Despite her illness, Ingrid's mother maintained her determination to live fully, even pursuing a third master's degree. The conversation explores the cultural aspects of discussing prognosis in Taiwan and how this influenced her mother's approach to her illness. A significant portion of the interview focuses on Ingrid's experiences with "automatic writing," through which she believes she received communications from her mother after death. These experiences provided comfort to Ingrid and her family members. The interview introduces the concept of quantum entanglement to explain the energetic connection between the living and deceased, which Ingrid expresses interest in exploring further, possibly in a second book. The conversation also covers Ingrid's mother's legacy as a tech pioneer who faced challenges as a woman in a male-dominated field, the emotional reconciliation between Ingrid and her mother before her passing, and how applied kinesiology helped Ingrid process inherited emotional burdens. Ingrid hopes her book will provide comfort and inspiration to others navigating grief and loss.Ingrid Hu Dahl's memoir "Sun Shining on Morning Snow" chronicles her grief journey following her mother's battle with stage four endometrial cancer.Despite geographical distance and COVID-19 travel restrictions, Ingrid managed to support her mother in Taiwan during her final days.Ingrid experienced what she describes as "automatic writing," believing she received communications from her mother after death, providing comfort to her family. The conversation explores quantum entanglement as a possible scientific explanation for spiritual connections that transcend physical death.Ingrid's mother left behind a complex legacy as a tech pioneer who faced gender discrimination but maintained her determination to live fully until the end, even pursuing a third master's degree while ill.----Connect with Ingrid Hu Dahl: https://www.sunshiningonmorningsnow.com/----Grab my book A Better Way to Treat Cancer: A Comprehensive Guide to Understanding, Preventing and Most Effectively Treating Our Biggest Health Threat - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CM1KKD9X?ref_=pe_3052080_397514860 Unleashing 10X Power: A Revolutionary Approach to Conquering Cancerhttps://store.thekarlfeldtcenter.com/products/unleashing-10x-power-Price: $24.99-100% Off Discount Code: CANCERPODCAST1Healing Within: Unraveling the Emotional Roots of Cancerhttps://store.thekarlfeldtcenter.com/products/healing-within-Price: $24.99-100% Off Discount Code: CANCERPODCAST2----Integrative Cancer Solutions was created to instill hope and empowerment. Morgan Stanley's Chief Asia Equity Strategist Jonathan Garner explains why Indian equities are our most preferred market in Asia.Read more insights from Morgan Stanley.----- Transcript -----Welcome to Thoughts on the Market. I'm Jonathan Garner, Morgan Stanley's Chief Asia Equity Strategist. Today I'll discuss why we remain positive on India's long-term equity story. It's Tuesday, the 24th of June at 9am in Singapore. We've had a long-standing bullish outlook on the India economy and its stock market. In the last five years MSCI India has delivered a total return in U.S. dollars of 145 percent versus 94 percent for global equities and just 39 percent for emerging markets. Indian equities are our most preferred market within Asia for three key reasons. First, India's superior economic and earnings growth. Second, lower exposure to trade tariffs. And third, a strong domestic investor base. And all of this adds up to structural outperformance not just in Asia but indeed globally, and with significantly lower volatility than peer group markets. So let's dive deeper. To start with – the macroeconomic backdrop. We expect India to account for 20 percent of overall incremental global GDP growth in the coming decade. Manufacturing competitiveness is improving thanks to bolstered infrastructure in power, ports, roads, freight transport systems as well as investments in social infrastructure such as water, sewage and hospitals. Additionally, India's growing middle class offers market opportunities to companies across many product categories. There's robust domestic consumption, a strong investment cycle led by public and private capital expenditure and continuing structural reforms, including in the legal sphere. GDP growth in the first quarter was more than 7 percent and our team expects over 6 percent in the medium term, which would be by far the highest of the major economies. Furthermore, we continue to expect robust corporate earnings growth. Since the end of COVID, MSCI India has delivered around 12 percent per annum [U.S.] dollar earnings per share growth versus low single digits for Emerging Markets overall. And we forecast 14 percent and 16 percent over the next two fiscal years. Growth drivers in the short term include an emerging private CapEx cycle, re-leveraging of corporate balance sheets, and a structural rise in discretionary consumption – signaling increased business and consumer confidence, after last year's elections. Another key reason that we're positive on India currently is its lower-than-average vulnerability to ongoing trade and tariff disputes between the U.S. and its trade partners. Exports of goods to the U.S. amount to only 2 percent of India's GDP versus, for example, 10 percent in Thailand or 14 percent in Taiwan. And India's total goods exports are only around 12 percent of GDP. Moreover, for the time being, India's very large services sector's exports are not exposed to tariff actions, and are actually early beneficiaries of AI adoption. Finally, India's strong individual stock ownership means that there's persistent retail buying, which underpins the equity market. Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) flows driven by a young urbanizing population are making new highs, and in May amounted to over U.S.$3 billion. They provide consistent capital inflows. That means that this domestic bid on stocks is unlikely to fade anytime soon. This provides a strong foundation for the market and supports valuations which are slightly above emerging market averages. It also means that its market beta to global equities are low and falling, approximately 0.4 versus 1.1 ten years ago. And price volatility is well below other emerging markets. All told, making India an attractive play in volatile times. Thanks for listening. If you enjoy the show, please leave us a review wherever you listen and share Thoughts on the Market with a friend or colleague today.

In 2025, Taiwan is witnessing an unprecedented wave of citizen-led recall campaigns targeting lawmakers—mostly from the opposition Kuomintang. Branded the “mass recall” movement, it raises a question: is this a genuine expression of civic outrage, or a politically driven power play? To unpack the roots and implications of this political upheaval, we speak with Nathan Batto, political scientist and author of the Frozen Garlic blog. - 8:10 How does the Sunflower Movement connect to today's recall wave? - 12:02 What sparked this massive recall push? Perspectives from both sides - 18:45 Is the movement truly grassroots—or party-driven? - 21:50 Why hasn't the KMT been able to mobilize as effectively? - 30:55 Is mass recall Taiwan's only option for breaking political deadlock? - 34:01 How might the results affect Taiwan's geopolitical position? Host: Kwangyin Liu, Senior Managing Editor of CommonWealth Magazine Guest: Nathan Batto, Associate Research Fellow at Academia Sinica, Producers: Yayuan Chang, Weiru Wang *Read CommonWealth's explainer on the mass recall and its implications:https://english.cw.com.tw *Share your thoughts:bill@cw.com.tw 留言告訴我你對這一集的想法: https://open.firstory.me/user/cledx9shs004801v3cmkogc7e/comments Powered by Firstory Hosting

Lecture seven of a series on the 'Doctrine of Atonement', delivered by Dr. Mildred Bangs Wynkoop during the fall of 1979 at Nazarene Theological Seminary. Dr. Wynkoop was a remarkable voice in the Church of the Nazarene—a writer, pastor, missionary, and theologian whose influence still resonates today. Her most celebrated works are Foundations of Wesleyan-Arminian Theology and A Theology of Love: The Dynamic of Wesleyanism, both of which continue to shape contemporary Wesleyan thought. Her ministry journey spanned the globe and the academy. She pastored churches in California and Oregon, taught at George Fox Evangelical Seminary, and served as the founding president of Japan Nazarene Theological Seminary. She also taught in Taiwan before returning to the United States to serve as Professor of Theology at Trevecca Nazarene College (1966–1976) and later at Nazarene Theological Seminary (1976–1979). Throughout her century-long life and ministry, Dr. Wynkoop met Phineas Bresee, studied under H. Orton Wiley and Olive Winchester, and left a profound impact on generations of students and colleagues across four Nazarene institutions—having studied at Point Loma Nazarene University and Northwest Nazarene University, and having taught at Trevecca Nazarene University and Nazarene Theological Seminary. *These recordings, captured initially in 1979, have been substantially restored. While Dr. Wynkoop's voice has been clarified, student questions during Q&A segments may be difficult to discern. Her responses, however, remain clear and impactful.*   Lifelong Learning Code: 80890 Click here to learn about Lifelong Learning

McMaster, former National Security Advisor under President Trump and senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, joined The Guy Benson Show today to address the growing divide within the MAGA base over U.S. involvement in Iran. McMaster argued that the division is misplaced, reminding listeners that Trump has been remarkably consistent, favoring diplomacy and deal-making, but never shying away from force when necessary, as seen in the takedown of Soleimani. McMaster explained why removing hostile entities is in America's strategic interest and gave a broader global update, outlining the threats posed by Russia's continued war in Ukraine and China's mounting aggression toward Taiwan.
