In združi. Še sploh, če so v prostem času Belokranjci in glasbeniki odprtega duha.

As a collegiate coach, Dr. Kimberly Stein had to communicate the science of recovery and nutrition to her teams. Being a pioneer in the NFL Kevin Luhrs had to communicate the science behind the small changes to improve player performance. What does effective communication mean to you/look like to you? KS: We think it is cool and give them the details but they do not really careKeep it simpleMeet them where they are KL:  transfer of knowledgeFind where they are and stay one step ahead of them What barriers have you run into while trying to share science? KL:  I started in 2010 I think the number of Sports dieticians has doubled in college athleticsAppeal to the why - Why are you tired on the field, why are you sluggish? Keep monitoring them. KS:  You have to sell it as another training aidePotential injury preventionSTART WITH WHY What are the best steps to introduce science into a conversation effectively? KL: Plant the seedAsk questionsI had the opportunity to communicate the science in front of the whole teamI had a lot of consultations in the whole way or in the At Facility KS: Meeting them for the first time is not the best timeWhat do you think about nutrition and performance? What do you think you need to perform?“Let's try just a little bit of energy” not well the RDs recommend 20 ML of fluid every 20 minutes of heavy activity. How can you get a team of professional athletes to take interest in the science behind sport? KL: Where do I start?Fried catfish FridaysImplement it into practice as you educate themSmall changes KS: Older athletes kinda lead the way for me…they wanted to extend their career.Nowadays we see athletes that are asking questions as soon as they get the contract. How do you adjust your communication methods between a practitioner audience or a professional athlete audience? KS:  Practitioners get more of the scienceThey want to see the charts and graphs and dataBut you are still not talking to other scientists so do not go overboard.Use visuals often. Professional athletes Let them ask questions and get a feel for what they wantUse examples of places and people it has worked withCoachesThey have to be the key in implementing it.Allowing water breaksAllowing practice to start later so the team has time to eat.But they also need to internalize this personally KL:  Educate them so they can communicate the message when neededBeing on the same page as a staff is probably the biggest key to success..coaches, admin, everyone How can someone communicate why their recommendations are effective for reasons beyond the science? KL:  - We definitely have to convince people or sell it at times - Like Dr. Stein said, science is not black an white, it is evolving KS:  Yes!!!Understand the science of behavior changeYou are not really changing the diet but changing their behaviorTiny Changes How can a practitioner determine whether information is best communicated visually through graphics or data, or through straightforward text? KS: Pee Color chartHaving a picture of carbohydrates…giving examplesDo this instead of a list KL: Weigh in charts for hydrationTraffic light training systemGoSlowWhoa What are your recommendations for sharing/communicating the science via social media? What are some effective posts/sources that you've seen recently?  KS: We are a headline driven society..so it is hard to communicate the science accuratelyWho know how valid the “reports” areGet with the team captains and see if they can share the good stuff on their personal info KL: Point towards some that are doing the right thing. What are some scientific resources you would recommend for someone who is trying to expand their sports performance research knowledge? KS: - www.GSSIweb.org - hands down KL: Sports Science Exchange or Gatorade performance partner website Contact Us: Dr.

The best products, especially when it comes to your health, are those that solve your problem and honestly work. My guest today, Adi Arezzini knows this first hand. Adi is the co-founder of Teami, a company whose flagship product was designed to solve internal gut health issues. In this episode, Adi and I discuss how Teami got started and the different marketing tactics she has used to grow her e-commerce business. She also shares her thoughts on product branding, horizontal expansion, and inventory control. Teami was initially created by Adi and her business partner to solve digestive issues that Adi herself was having. Realizing that they had created a product that worked and that could help others, the Teami brand was born. After focusing mainly on teas for the first few years, Adi reached out to her clients to find out what other issues they were facing. This led to Teami branching out into skincare and later into the wide world of wellness products. Staying true to her vision to create natural solutions that actually work, Adi can personally attest to her products' efficacy, as she has been has been the human guinea pig in their development. In this episode, we'll cover: - Adi's time in the Israeli army, discovering her gut health issues, and finding her love for fitness and well-being - Solving Adi's gut health issues with holistic nutrition and solutions and the development of Teami with her business partner - Branding and creating excitement for the consumer via product release - Letting the numbers drive your decisions when you're expanding your product lines - Influencer marketing: what works and what doesn't - Teami's successes and setback in branching out from teas and detoxes into skincare and other tea-based products - The concept that inventory is money. Humans of Martech
40: Sustainable growth marketing experimentation

Humans of Martech

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 29, 2021 27:52

Experimentation lives at the center of growth marketing and it's one of the best ways to explain how marketing combines art and science. Too much of today's marketing is about attribution and data and reporting. We know that's part of experimentation obviously, tracking lift on certain metrics. But the art side is really the idea generation part of experimentation. Trying things that not a lot of other folks are doing, going against the grain, trying crazy ideas. Isn't that what marketing is all about? Today's main takeaway is: The most important part of designing experiments isn't to have a single metric in mind or a  rock solid hypothesis. It's to create a knowledge base of insights from past experiments that everyone on your team can learn from. That's what we're calling sustainable experimentation.Sangram Vajre talks about 3 kinds of superpowers in marketing leaders:The doer; They make sure the world is running today in the best way possible. They get stuff done. People count on them to be operational. The driver; They can push projects through and assist with the process of securing buy-in from internal – and sometimes external – stakeholders. The dreamer; They are forward-thinkers who can help shake things up and come up with new suggestions. They spend time imagining the world we want to live in, the future. Bunch of ideas, but not always ability to focus and move those along.I'm wholeheartedly a dreamer. I spend my time digesting information, taking notes of cool ideas and keeping a swipe file of things to try.I don't see growth marketers as scientists experimenting in a lab… I think of us as early adopters. We've talked about channel fatigue before and how eventually marketers ruin every new strategy and everything has diminishing returns. That's why experimenting with new channels, new ideas is so so important. How to design an experiment Goal/objective Assumptions, supporting data Hypothesis Implementation Reporting First things first, what's your goal? When designing an experiment, I prefer having a single metric in mind, while still monitoring secondary metrics as well. For example, here's an objective:Double the conversion rate of free trials to paid in the first 30 days from 2% to 4%.Next up is the hypothesis.Assumptions that back up your hypothesesBefore throwing out your hypothesis, it's important to give as much context and supporting data for your hypothesis. For our free trial conversion rate objective for example, it's important to have a complete understanding of user needs. In the free trial part of the funnel, users are still in the discover and try phase of their experience with your product. So in your hypothesis doc you could you can share supporting data that shows free trial users are more likely to convert to paid users if they have successfully experienced a series of key moments of delight. Hypothesis exampleFree trial signups who are segmented by activity and receive trigger based onboarding series–specific to what they've completed in the product–are more likely to achieve a series of moments of delight and are thus more likely to convert to paid than users who receive the current onboarding series.Implementation Each experiment should have a dependent variable (conversion rate of free trials to paid), and an independent variable (the onboarding email series). I also encourage folks to take a cohort approach to implementation. We split half the audience into a control group and a test group. The control group would continue to receive the current onboarding email series and the test group would be part of the experiment. In our example, we would split all signups into a test group and control group. The control group receives the current time based emails and our test group receives the new trigger behaviour emails in our experiment, and we compare conversion rates as well as monitor other metrics like product behaviours.Sharing insights across your teamI've used VWO in my past and love how they use some cool collaboration features. You can log observations from past experiments or data you've uncovered in other tools and log them into VWO. Eventually you could have a miny filterable db of observations that folks on your team can prioritize or sift through. These observations lead to hypotheses which are also a unique object in VWO. Before launching an experiment you need to first create a hypothesis, then link it to your experiment. After your experiment has run its course, the last object in VWO is Learnings, or insights. This is building a knowledge base of learnings from tests you've run so everyone is in the know. When you think of ideas in your company they all come and are stored in different places, word docs, project management backlogs, emails… VWO adds a bit of structure to everything that touches experimentation.✌️--Intro music by Wowa via UnminusCover art created with help via Undraw

In this episode, we chat about what inspired her to voluntarily join the Israeli army at the age of 19, and why she considered this a break from real life and burnout that she’d been experiencing for a decade, the serendipitous moment she met her business partner and the journey developing a product line, the brand, and the marketing strategy, what it was like to build a million-dollar business by year two, and what she was doing to create that kind of growth, what it looked like to evolve Teami from a product-based business to a wellness lifestyle brand, and why it was largely inspired by their customers’ needs, the not-so-pretty moments she’s faced as a CEO and what she’s done to move through them with as much grace as possible, and so much more!   To learn more about Adi Arezzini and the resources mentioned in this episode, visit the show notes.   Follow Me On: Facebook Instagram

How Are You Able To Post So Often On Social Media?I am Content Creator I study the techI apply the techI've built a teamI repurpose my ContentI use voice on the flyI don't over think, I just executeAre you thinking you don't get engagement on your social media because you're not posting at the right times? Or, have you only just set up a new social channel for your business and are wondering how often you should post on social media? Before we dig in to give in-depth answers to your musings, here's something you need to understand: there are no magic times to post on social media. Sure, you can refer to the prevailing research on how often should you post on social media. When it comes to determining the optimal frequency for posting on social media, even the industry giants can't seem to be able to come to a consensus. One publication or study will tell you to post three times per day and the next will tell you 20.Now here comes the bitter sip: if you're not consistent in your posts on social media, the odds of getting high engagement are low. Why? Because consistency in your presence on social media sets your followers' expectations. Put another way, your audience becomes familiar with your updates, so they engage with them. What's more, the consistency on social media improves your reach. Again, why? See, when you post and engage with your audience regularly, more people will see your posts. This improves your reach or the number of people who see your posts.

I woke up this morning feeling tightness throughout my body. I had a dream that created the feeling that, I was damned if I do and damned if I don’t. I feel the freedom to be and express is such a blessing!I know throughout history people haven’t always had that ability. I know in some countries it’s still not totally okay to do so. I love creating art to display in my home and also to share art that inspires others. I am so grateful for the gift of expression.Everyone has a voice and it’s important that we allow our voice to be heard. We all need the opportunity to speak, sing, or however we choose to express. The choice is always ours what we feel in our hearts and how we speak to ourselves in our minds. This is a form of expression, something, that can never be taken away. When we choose to freely express we allow others to see inside our hearts. As we express we have the opportunity to help others along their journey. Building connection with others is of great value and is easily accomplished as we freely express ourselves. Freedom of expression creates community. We can build on each other’s ideas as we work, as equals, on a team.Today, I Give Myself Permission To Express Myself AuthenticallyI am expressing myself authenticallyI am empowered as I express myself and share with othersI am easily connecting with the best people who receive what I have to offerI recognize the value I bring to the teamI build and strengthen others through sharing my giftsI love my voiceI have a strong, clear voiceI express with sincere intentionClick Here for more info on living a life of gratitude.Click Here to find out how to join the Gratitude Call live every weekday morning at 7 am Mountain Time.Click Here to join the “Breakthrough with Gratitude!” Facebook Group. I know that each inspired shortcut I receive is preparing me in some way. I also trust that I will only receive next steps that I am capable of doing immediately. That level of trust and faith did not happen overnight. It has been years of doing my Daily GPS and seeing the positive outcomes that happen sometimes months or years later due to my obedient immediate action on trusted inspiration. The opposite of trust is doubt. If we don’t trust, the inspiration loses its potency and its ability to guide us to the easy path. Just as we see positive outcomes from trusting and acting, we will see negative outcomes from doubting. The beautiful truth is that God’s hand is always outstretched, so when we choose to return to Him, He is always there!I learned a long time ago that the pride of trusting only me is so much harder than simply being led. My life is easy because all I have to do is ask, and then act. I don’t have to figure it out, I leave that to God.Faith is required to take action immediately when inspired to proceed, even when we can’t see the outcome that action will produce. We can’t get the next clue until we take action on the first one. The miracle comes just in the nick of time, and it never shows up exactly as we had envisioned.Until we know, based on evidence of following through with an inspired shortcut, we may need to get to the end of our rope before the miracle appears. God truly wants to manifest himself in our lives! Having His orchestrate it after we have exhausted all our human resources, is the perfect way for us to know where our miracles come from.I have found that once we know the source of our blessings, and acknowledge Him in all things, we can have a partnership agreement where we can ask and receive before the nick of time. I Give Myself Permission to Trust My InspirationI trust myself to follow throughI trust myself to act immediatelyI trust my teamI trust my source of inspirationI trust that the first step will lead to the nextI choose to trust throughout the processClick Here for more info on living a life of gratitude.Click Here to find out how to join the Gratitude Call live every weekday morning at 7 am Mountain Time.Click Here to join the “Breakthrough with Gratitude!” Facebook GroupTo learn more about working more closely with Wylene Benson, contact her directly at this link: Contact WyleneSupport the show (https://wylenebenson.com)

Episode 102 | Adi Arezzini Shares How to Move from Confusion to Clarity Have you ever watched your sales plummet by 50% almost overnight? Adi Arezzini is co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Teami, a lifestyle tea company with premium-quality loose-leaf teas and tea-infused skincare. From a young age,  Adi was taught the benefits of holistic health and plant-based eating by her health-conscious mother. Following her interest in health and wellness, at 19 Adi worked as a combat trainer for the Israel Defense Force and a few years later became a National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) certified personal trainer. After returning home from living for years in the army barracks in Israel, Adi realized her gut wasn’t functioning properly, due to a lack of access to quality nutrition. Soon Adi began experimenting with loose leaf tea blends as a natural remedy and only four years later, Adi created Teami. As entrepreneurs, we need to learn to keep a long term vision. When I still had FITzee Foods, we were everywhere - in stores, online & had a retail store of our own! When I started the business, there were minimal healthy pre-packaged foods companies in the area, and when we closed, there were hundreds. Everything changed fast! The key is to keep a long term vision, and lean in during the tough times, and turn those into our strengths. After being rejected by several brick and mortar stores to carry her products via the wholesale way of growing a business, Adi Arezzini turned to digital marketing to sell her wellness teas. Her company was growing and flourishing, until April 2016, when the Instagram algorithm changed. Adi’s customers didn’t see her company’s posts anymore and weren’t making purchases like they had been. Their entire digital marketing strategy was dangerously close to failure, as the company’s sales dropped in half - until Adi decided it was time to lean in and find ways to turn that into a strength. This week’s guest on the Success Unfiltered Podcast, Adi Arezzini, started out going into stores to see if they’d be interested in selling her wellness teas. When they said NO, she decided that it was time for her to choose her own strategies, and found herself on her new digital entrepreneurship journey! If you’re ready for a roller coaster ride of imports, sales, and algorithms, then this episode of Success Unfiltered is a MUST LISTEN! Here are a few key secrets we talked about in this episode: Michelle introduces Adi. Adi shares her first NO - $10,000 worth of tea getting held by customs, and destroyed! “I make mistakes when I am not educated on something. The biggest mistakes I made were when I didn’t research something, and then I wasted money.” ~ Adi Arezzini In retrospect, Adi says she waited too long to find a mentor. She would have found someone local in the field, and learned from them sooner! When you utilize digital marketing, no one is telling you “NO” because you’re not knocking on doors; all of the sales come from marketing. We relied on platforms for people to see our products and service. Successful people lean into the fears and challenges in front of them; others turn and walk away so they don’t have to deal with it. By leaning into obstacles, you put the control in your own hands. We changed organizationally what we were doing, so people focused; and were not spread thin. Our team was able to become experts at what they did so marketing was wiser and created clarity. Move from confusion to clarity. “I cling to concrete facts; numbers don’t lie.” ~ Adi Arezzini A friend urged Adi to take her tea to Whole Foods and Sprouts. She bought a pants suit and took a basket of assorted teas in, met with managers, and was brushed off. Adi thought, “How can I be in control of my own success? I can take up digital marketing; telling my own story, not waiting for someone to give me a chance.” Hunger and a drive to survive keep you going through the NOs. No matter where you are in business,  you still go through rough times; it’s what you sign up for as a business owner; everyone deals with it. Being a business owner is a long term commitment. Keep long term goals, because one business will not uptrend forever. You need to know you will be in it for the long term. Vision and long term planning is the most important; stick to the vision and why you started. Adi shares what she would tell her younger self. Adi Arezzini is co-founder and CEO of Teami Blends, a bootstrapped lifestyle brand centered around using all-natural, plant-based ingredients to help customers live happier, healthier lives. Teami's product line ranges from wellness blends to tea-infused skincare. From a young age, Adi was taught the benefits of holistic health and plant-based eating by her health conscious mother. At 19, Adi served as a combat trainer for the Israel Defense Force, and later, after returning home to Florida, qualified as a National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) certified personal trainer. After years of life in the army barracks, Adi realized her gut wasn't functioning properly, due to a lack of access to quality nutrition. Despite trying different diets, supplements and more, nothing seemed to help with her lagging digestive system, inability to go to the bathroom and painful bloating. Soon Adi began experimenting with loose leaf tea blends as a natural remedy. These high quality teas Adi made uncovered the root of her problem: an excess of toxins built up in her digestive tract. After realizing her “secret sauce” blend also solved similar digestion issues with her friends, Adi saw the potential and began looking to different varieties of tea to combat other common issues: fatigue, depleted immune system, stress and insomnia. Researching, creating, blending and sourcing these teas wasn't just a passion for Adi, it became her purpose and, soon, her expertise. At just 23, Adi created Teami in her mother's bedroom. She saw Teami as a way to help people become healthier and happier, using teas to solve everyday issues. Today, Adi has since grown Teami Blends to a company with 55 people and to a lifestyle tea brand which includes tea-infused beauty oils and green tea mask + scrub. Learn more about how to get from 0 to 1 Mio. followers on Instagram, how to deal with bad reviews and why Adi believes that micro influencers are great ambassadors of your company message and how much budget you should plan to work with influencers.

At the age of 23 while serving in the Israeli army Adi Arezzini was feeling bloated, constipated and had a stomach that looked like she was carrying around a bowling ball inside. She was active and training soldiers, yet she had a very angry digestive system that left her feeling terrible with her own wellness and health. And eating the food the army provided wasn’t exactly helping … So, Adi tried a new avenue and got a colonic. It helped her for a while, but served more as a band-aide approach. It wasn’t until she got back to the United States and moved to Florida that she was able to cook her own healthy foods and finally help her stomach heal. And though her healthy eating approach was helping, it still didn’t fix her problem 100 percent.  At a fateful meeting at a friend’s house Adi met the person who would become her co-founder. With his background in coffee and tea, and her background in health and wellness, the two started to combine different loose leaf tea blends to find one that would help her stomach’s health and, as a perk, actually taste good at the same time. It was through this process that Teami Blends was born.  Offering teas made of herbs and natural ingredients, Teami Blends strives to create a product that provides a truly effective plant-based solution. The company is now a multi-million dollar brand with a massive following and community of Teami loyalists. And, just last year, Teami’s line of tea-infused skincare made it to the shelves of more than 1,000 Ulta retail stores. In today’s episode of I Want Her Job: The Podcast we talk to Adi about how she grew Teami from a company built out of her mom’s house into the behemoth it is today. We also discuss her motivations, talk about that extremely uncomfortable time living in Israel with digestive issues and explore her mindset for success.

Adi Arezzini (LinkedIn) had a military career that was professionally empowering but left her personally, and physically, in a bad place due to certain health and wellness issues. When she left the armed services, Adi spent her time looking for a cure for her ills — and in finding a solution, she also stumbled on a good idea for a business. But after a couple of years of growth and success, there was a point when it seemed like everything was falling apart. “The whole year was like this up and down year where we would have one month that was a really good month, and one month that was a bad month. I was like, "What is happening?" I felt really out of control and I started having very illogical panic attacks, where I couldn't sleep at night. I wasn't eating and I would call my husband and I was like, ‘Alex, I think I'm going to be an ice cream truck driver.'” Adi had to push through panic attacks, doubts, and tough business problems to keep her company, Teami, alive. But in doing so, she became a stronger person and leader and learned some valuable lessons about what it means to run a small business.   Learn more about The Journey at mission.org/thejourney. Episode #25 // This week’s episode is a big one! Once again I've developed a two part episode to deal with what I think is one of our larger topics, The Roadmap to Exceptional Leadership. Shoehorning this topic into a couple of brief podcast episodes is going to be tricky, but I am up for the challenge! This week in part one, we'll start by looking at common leadership attributes and competencies, the best place to start when we’re defining what an ‘exceptional leader’ actually is, without all the fluff! In this episode I’ll cover:The ideal leadership attributes that we so often hear are ‘important’, but are also strangely intangibleThe difference that personal perspective makes in creating meaning around leadership attributesAn example of how when I was CEO of CS Energy, I used key descriptors to explain certain attributes to my organisation, providing greater understanding of what behaviour I expectedWhy I think that leadership competencies are far more tangible (and relevant) than leadership attributesSome of the competencies of senior leadership that I learned from my time at Harvard Business School - you can download these competencies for free at www.yourceomentor.com/episode25 to self-evaluate, and evaluate those in your teamI’ll touch on The 7 Pillars of Leadership Performance which will give you an insight into next week’s episode where I’ll give away my ‘secret sauce' to becoming an exceptional leader! My hope is that this episode gets you thinking about what leadership attributes and competencies you currently have, and which ones you want to develop. Becoming an exceptional leader takes time, patience, discipline and an unwavering commitment to improving. It’s not easy, but the payback is incalculable. If this episode has given you a new perspective on leadership, and you feel as though you want to dive deeper into what it actually takes to become an exceptional leader, I strongly encourage you to check out our 7-week online leadership program, Leadership Beyond the Theory. Enrolment is only open for another 8 days before we close the door to this cohort.I’d love to know if this has helped you reframe your perspective on what great leadership is, so please send me an email (hello@yourceomentor.com) with your feedback!

We can’t achieve our goals without being productive. But sometimes it feels like there just aren’t enough hours in the day. Kris McPeak is a certified life coach, author, blogger, podcast host, founder of the Silver Peak Performance swim team… and she also holds a full-time job. We couldn’t think of anyone better to give us holiday productivity hacks!   How does she do it all? Prioritization, routine and self-care. It all goes hand in hand. Kris spends 8 hours at the office, makes sure she gets 8 hours sleep, and that leaves 8 hours to elevate. And Kris really has made the most of those 8 hours. She’s written the books Shake it Off: Ten 10 Minute Resets For Your Day (Making Work Work For You), and Elevate Your 8: 21 Days to Prosperous Time Management, AND launched her new podcast Elevate Your 8. All this in just a few months, after attending our Rise & Bloom Mastermind in April.   Whatever your goals, or no matter how long you’ve been an entrepreneur, you can always learn new ways to be more productive.   Kris’s Productivity Hacks: Get a sense of how long it takes you to do the little things - showering, commuting, cooking - then figure out how much time you have left for the most important tasks. Value your time - could you create more time for yourself by delegating or hiring someone? Treat your time like your money - get the urgent things done first. Set your timer for social media time so you don’t get sucked into the rabbit hole. Prioritize - figure out what needs to be done and when. Do you have to do it today or can it wait till the weekend? Go with the flow - recognize your schedule can get messed up, and learn to be flexible. Don’t judge yourself on what you didn’t get done. Develop a morning routine.   But what about this time of year? The holidays are the perfect time to connect with loved ones and new people… but it’s also easy to get overwhelmed by it all.   Here are Kris and Leslie’s tips for getting through the holidays while staying healthy and productive: Don’t feel like you have to go to every party you’re invited to - it’s ok to turn down invitations to honor your self-care. Plan ahead - fuel with good food and choose the healthiest dishes at parties. Discover JOMO - the Joy Of Missing Out Always bring food! If you’re hosting, don’t worry about a signature cocktail, you can also offer non-alcoholic drinks. Bring a plant-based wine - our favorite is Le Grand Courtage sparkling wine Try Brown Brother’s dessert wine - straight from Oz, but available in the US.     A Delicious Holiday Detox? And of course, we all want to look and feel fabulous during the holidays. This is a time when it’s even more important to detox, because we’re eating a little more and drinking a few extra glasses of wine. No one wants to feel sluggish and bloated at this time. What if you could add something to your regular routine that helps your body to detox naturally? Well, you can, with Teami blends.   Detoxing helps get rid of these extra holiday toxins, improve your energy levels, clear up your skin, boost your metabolism and clear out the digestive tract. We love detoxing, but this usually means fasting, which is not easy to do at this time of year!   That’s why we’re excited for you to try Teami Blends, a fun way to detox that fits into your normal day-to-day. In other words, you can eat and cleanse at the same time. What’s more, you can turn them into a delicious Mocha Choca latte - you’ll have to tune into the podcast for the recipe! But after eating the army's institutional, bland diet, she grappled with constipation and bloating. She tried all kinds of remedies but nothing worked—until she started experimenting with the tea that her mother was growing in her garden. She came up with two distinct blends of tea that solved her digestive problems—and from those blends developed a 30-day detox program.     Cut to five years later and Adi is the CEO and founder of Teami Blends, an all-natural loose-leaf tea company based in Clearwater, Florida. Adi oversees 50 employees and recently the brand expanded to include tea-based skincare products that are sold at the nationwide chain, Ulta Beauty.

"One of the greatest challenges we all face is to find a happy balance between the opportunities that are available to us, the media-implanted urge to have them all, and our own desire to keep focused on the things that really matter." —Elaine St. James in Living The Simple Life: A Guide to Scaling Down and Enjoying More Momentum is a powerful source of energy, and even though I am far from being a physicist, I understand the basic concept that since all objects have mass, and if an object is moving, it will have momentum, thus power/energy.  We are objects of energy when we keep our schedules and lives running.  Whatever pace you are moving at currently, if it is a pace you have become accustomed to for some time, it is easier to keep moving along at this pace than it is to slow down, even to speed up.  As we begin Season 5 of the The Simple Sophisticate podcast today (check out the full schedule of episodes here), many of us are stepping back into a full schedule, or at least one slightly different from the previous season. Whether it is simply a busier schedule due to clients and staff returning from their holidays, or perhaps you as well, the pace tends to pick up, and if we aren't careful or conscious, we can move along with this energy without realizing that it may not work well for the balance we know is best.  Now, granted, the pace you are stepping back into may be something you relish and works well; in this case, savor it, but simply be conscious of the energy that rolls forward and is easy to become swept up in without our being aware.  If, however, the pace that fall (or the new season) brings is something you wish to shift, to improve, I have some ideas about how to instill a new pace of momentum that works best for your life.  For the third time I read Elaine St. James' Living the Simple Life (1996), and it was upon reading it this summer that a few ideas she shared jumped out at me that had not previously. Most predominantly, taking a full month to live your life differently as a way to assess what you really need and determine what is helpful and what is actually hindering the quality of your life.  As I read this, I recognized my own experience having had the opportunity to travel in France for an entire month this summer. During this time, as I shared in a couple of blog posts (Doubt the Default: How My Trip to France Woke Me Up, episode #218 and Why Not . . . Let Your Brain Calm Down?), the clarity I gained about what was helping and was was obstructing the quality of my life was illuminated. But upon reflection, it was the duration of the trip that enabled this to be more readily recognizable.  Partly, this was because after spending four weeks in another culture, you are more acclimated than you realize, and so upon returning, there is an element of shock to your system (at least there was for me due to my fondness for the French culture). However, I am confident that we do not need to 'get away' to another country to have the same experience.  As a teacher, each summer I feel I am given this opportunity to reassess what is working and what isn't, but it is my choice to reflect and then put into place the changes I realize would be beneficial. So here's the challenge and the opportunity - for one entire month, make one, some or all of the following changes to your lifestyle as inspired by Elaine St. James and my own experience and observations to free up more time in your life to do what you love or do nothing at all, simple to relax, sleep more, dream more, savor time with loved ones more, simply live as you please. With the month's conclusion, take an hour or a morning or an afternoon and reassess to see what differences (positive or negative) you experienced.  Arrive at work either earlier or later than you do now, and then either stay earlier or later than you do now. In other words, shift when you are at work to try to find more productive hours, but do not stay longer than you currently do in total.  Get up an hour earlier. While this may require of you to go to bed earlier, observe how the day begins when you give yourself breathing room to savor having more control in how you set the tone for the day. Remember it's just for one month. Stop watching the news. While this doesn't mean you don't have to stay informed as you can read or listen to the news, observe how no longer being the passenger when it comes to news viewing affects your attitude, assumptions and stress levels. But you may want to take it step further and . . .  Stop reading or listening to the news (just for one month!) to see what differences may arise due to the absence of perpetual information. Change your exercise regimen. If you work out regularly in the afternoon, try working out in the mornings and observe how you go about your day and what it feels like to have the evenings free. If you attend classes in the morning, try taking them in the evening instead.  Turn off the television. (posts to read - Why Not . . . Watch Less Television? and Why Not . . . Master the Television?) Take a couple of personal or sick days. Talk to your boss to restructure your work days (just for one month) to four 10 hour work days instead of five 8 hour work days if this is an option.  Spend an entire weekend without making/attending any social or family commitments and give yourself permission to just do what speaks to you. If you can do this for more than one weekend during this month of assessment, you might begin to see helpful trends of what refuels and replenishes you.  Eliminate all shopping except necessities such as groceries and vital personal items.  Don't feel obligated to clean each week. Instead pick up each day as you go and clean every other week. Observe at the end of the month if this is possible.  Take a bath when the mood strikes - morning, middle of the day, etc. If possible, give yourself a long window of no appointments right after lunch as your energy begins to recharge from the fuel of food and the midday break. (This book, which was a Petit Plaisir in episode #194, explains the timing of our days and when we are most productive.) Simplify meals - use the capsule menu approach. Make sure your épicerie is stocked and challenge yourself to shop and cook seasonally. Stop using social media on designated days (the weekend) or every evening after [select a time]. Be stricter than you might think you will do after the month; by doing so, you will be able to see if you actually notice a positive difference in your mood, time saved, etc. Stay off the phone (texting or talking) except for emergencies for the entire month for making plans to meet in person. Sounds extreme, but often we welcome more internal stress with the conversations we have that are not face to face. Yes, a work-around is to use social media, but if this at all sounds tempting (to go text and talk-free), take the challenge and observe any differences in your stress levels. Potentially the quality of conversations may improve as you spend more time face-to-face.   Spend a weekend or a day (or even just an afternoon) somewhere that will feel like an escape from the old habits that you are trying to tweak. Upon traveling to this destination, turn the phone off and be fully present, engage, revel and celebrate. Observe what feels good about where you are and the pace of the day(s).  Initially this list may seem impossible, but remember, it is only for one month, AND choose what piques your interest. Again, remind yourself as you begin the month with anything that may be difficult, It is only for one month.  For one month I didn't watch the news, and by doing this, it made it far simpler to return to the states and not turn it on at home. As I mentioned last week, how I have adjusted is to watch the NBR (Nightly Business Report) and read a daily brief each morning. Anything else is quite jarring to me, far more than I recognized prior to my trip. The key for the changes you seek to become more comfortable is to give yourself this one month of practice or living or doing without. This is where momentum comes into play. It is very hard to shift gears as behaviors become habituated, even behaviors that are not helpful. And so when we initially begin to change the habit or behavior, we think the difficulty is due to it not being what is best. However, in truth, it is simple science - anything new, any shift of energy is slow and awkward until it gets going at a good and steady pace. Give yourself the full month to make the shift and redirect your momentum. When we discover that the blue sky was deeply blue today, far more than it was last week, we realize the pace we had been living previously was not allowing us the ability to be present, to observe and to appreciate. Such appreciation is part of improving the quality of our lives. And when we return after the month we challenged ourselves to above and begin to watch some television for example, we do so more discerningly, more thoughtfully, as we now recognize that indeed what we watch indirectly affects our emotions.  May in one month's time, you have more free time and therefore a life of increased quality.  ~SIMILAR POSTS/EPISODES FROM THE ARCHIVES YOU MIGHT ENJOY: Quality Thoughts = Quality Life Why Not . . . While serving in the Israeli Defense Forces, Adi experienced digestive issues, and she began experimenting with loose leaf tea blends as a natural remedy. The high-quality teas she made began to uncover the root of her problem - an excess of toxins built up in her digestive tract.
