Hey there, friends! Welcome back to another episode of The Plunge. This week was a rollercoaster of hilarious moments, unexpected vacations, and some much-needed relaxation. First off, let me tell you about the funniest thing I've heard all week. So, there's this Jewish camp in Northwood that happens every year, and on Monday, our computers were down. I called the camp to check on the usual prescription orders, and one of my colleagues informed me that the camp had wrapped up for the summer. When I asked how he knew, he said he saw all the kids leaving on a bus and threw up a "Shabbat Shalom" like a West Side gang sign. I swear, it was the funniest thing ever. Now, let's talk about the plunge—both metaphorically and literally. I finally took a mini-vacation and had the time of my life. We got a new couch, a new camera angle, and we're back in the studio after a month. Oh, and it's football season, which means it's the best time of the year. Draft weekend is coming up, and we couldn't be more excited. Riley and I have been dealing with our own stuff. I went on a vacation while Riley had one of the worst weeks of work ever. But hey, we both needed a break. The studio is back in action, and we're ready to roll. Speaking of rolling, Riley has been trying to train his dog, who is simultaneously athletic and unathletic. It's been quite the journey, and he's even tried some unconventional methods like putting a big fat dump in the dog's hole to stop her from digging. Yeah, it's as hilarious as it sounds. We also talked about the latest trends and lingo that are taking over the internet. From "Skibbity Toilets" to "What the Sigma," we tried to get to the bottom of these new-age terms. We even called up some friends with kids to get their insights, but it seems like the mystery remains. And oh, the cruise! Riley just got back from a Bermuda cruise and had the most amazing time. From beautiful pink sand beaches to mini-golfing on stunning courses, it was a vacation to remember. He's already planning a return trip next year with a big group, and it's going to be epic. We even talked about conquering the "Big Boner" at the Bonefish Grill in Bermuda. Trust me, you don't want to miss out on this adventure. So, whether you're here for the laughs, the stories, or just to hang out, we're glad to have you with us. Thanks for tuning in to The Plunge, and we'll catch you next time!

Becky Boyd has worked at Outback Steakhouse most of her adult life, starting as a server and moving up to bar manager and eventually to her current position as Director of Menu Innovation & Strategy for all of Bloomin' Brands. Bloomin' is the parent company of Outback, Bonefish Grill and Carrabba's Italian Grill. Outback is currently on an innovation tear, launching seasonal limited-time menus at a steady pace. The most recent promotions focused on Fall's Swicy menu flavored with the sweet heat of hot honey and “Steakmas Season” for the holidays. Boyd and her team pay equal attention to the food and drink sides of the menu during R&D sessions, with cocktails such as the Winter White Cosmo and Hot Honey Margarita becoming instant signatures. But for the Steakmas promotion, the menu riffs on two core items: ribeye steak and the Bloomin' onion. Listen as Boyd shares her culinary journey, talks about how Outback's Australian connection differentiates the menu and reveals what might be coming next on the menu.

In this episode: FAQ is: Karen asks, At what age can I join AARP? Today's Special Edition is on AARP Travel Today's Mistake- Being frazzled in the airport Travel Advice: Room service is overrated. FAQ: Karen asks: Is there an age requirement for AARP? Answer: What is AARP's Membership Age? While AARP is dedicated to people over 50, there is no minimum age to join. People of all ages can get an AARP membership for as low as $12 per year with auto-renewal. Anyone can become an AARP member and gain access to hundreds of discounts, programs and resources. My brother joined when he was 40. You can join at any age. They have a promo now if you purchase 5 years of membership. That sounds like a good offer if you plan on being a traveler soon. Today's Special Edition is on AARP Travel I've been an AARP member, which stands for American Association of Retired Persons. I'm on their mailing lists and get a lot of travel information from them. Some years I join and others I don't. They make travel a worry-free experience with partners who are tested. I recently got a magazine from one of their vendors, Grand European Travel, or GET tours. This vendor has tours in every continent with discounts if you book early for summer travel. I like to look at these brochures and dream about travel, and the places that I will go. Good photography is their high standard. They also claim to be eco-friendly. Each of these tours is with a trained guide. https://www.aarp.org/travel/ AARP doesn't protect Social Security and Medicare. It prevents any serious discussion of meaningfully reforming these programs, which are in great danger of becoming insolvent. AARP, with its nearly 38 million members, is one of the most powerful lobbying organizations in Washington. AARP members can receive discounts at Walgreens, RiteAid, Kohl's, Goodwill, UPS, and TJ Maxx..The AARP is a massive organization that boasts around 38 million members in the United States. Because of its stature, AARP has the ability to partner with big companies and give their members all of their discounts, benefits, resources, advice, and other things. You can get discounts for restaurants like McCormick & Schmick's, Claim Jumper, Outback Steakhouse, Denny's, Bonefish Grill, Carrabba's Italian Grill and many more. You can also get discounts on entertainment options like Regal movie tickets, Ticketmaster, and Ancestry. There are financial benefits that come with investing in an AARP membership that can be effective in helping you deal with your money and retirement. Some of the benefits you can receive from having an AARP membership include money management links and worksheet and Social Security benefits calculator. This calculator helps individuals to determine when they can expect to start receiving Social Security benefits. The AARP also provides identity theft protection services, which is very important. Today's Mistake-Being frazzled in the airport I was hot, tired and hungry in an airport recently. I wanted to purchase a water bottle. It was $5 bucks. I can't drink water in Mexico unless it's been treated or I will get sick. I was thinking about that as I packed up my wallet to leave. But I almost left the water behind on the counter. That's careless behavior. The cashier called after me, “you forgot your water.” Of course I thanked her. That was kind. Today's Travel Advice- Room service is overrated. Instead of ordering room service, many hotels let you order food from around town. Hyatt has a pilot program for snack delivery with GoPuff app to deliver prepackaged and hot mails to rooms in certain of their properties. So far it's going well, they say. See the show notes for the link. Thousands of items delivered fast for as little as $3 fee. Think about ice cream, cookies or yogurt delivery. https://gopuff.com/go Today I want to bring meaning to your travel. Send me your travel tip. My head explodes as I vent about my WTF moments. How my wife and I's 19th wedding anniversary was ruined by Bonefish Grill.I'm still upset about how Game of Thrones ended, but I think Elon Musk is the one to fix it.Stone Cold Steve Austin, Vince McMahon, Brock Lesner, and Pat McAfee... Yeah, WWE is going geriatric. WTF?!Carrie Underwood and her well toned legs at the Grammy's, make me lose my... thoughts.Justin Bieber was wearing clothing that was about ten sizes too big while at the Grammy's.Kroenke and Comcast need to get their shit straight so Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche fans can watch ALL of their games! And while a lot of people want to bash Nick Wright of FOX Sports, I explain why you still need to have some respect for him and his work ethic.
“Service SUCKS!” That's a lot of people's sentiments regarding so many businesses, especially the ones providing common necessities. It's not surprising because a lot of owners will leverage that “necessity” to cut down on costs and provide the least amount of work and effort. Because…why bother? “Customers WILL Come”, is what these business owners think until a legitimately awesome product/service provider comes along to rake in their business. Let's hear it from Southern Steer Butcher's Founder, Greg Snyder, how they leverage customer care as their cutting edge in order to become “THAT” [Trusted] Butcher, allowing them to STAND OUT from the rest, rightfully ensuring maximum Profitability and business Longevity. Greg came up with Southern Steer Butcher, a business franchise that provides TOP Quality meat products and homemade sausages, healthy side items, among other gourmet foods. Besides their awesome products, they're WELL-KNOWN for Excellent Customer Care, and for providing GREAT shopping EXPERIENCE. Prior to starting Southern Steer, Greg spent his corporate career in the restaurant industry, including 20+ years with Bloomin' Brands. He spent his final 7 years as a Managing Partner for Bonefish Grill; four of those being chosen as Partner-of-the-Year. During his tenure, he developed several employees to the same role. His corporate restaurant experience developed much of the framework and foundational disciplines needed to venture into his own business. What can probably top their meat expertise, customer care, and product quality is their business ethics. With Project 52, Greg steps it up a notch by giving back to the community. First and foremost, the idea is to simply help out, but surprisingly (or not), this effort comes with perks of “Free” marketing and increased reach + authority. Ultimately, it's passion for hospitality and an undeniable desire to help that makes this franchise an incredible success worth emulating AND investing in! Bloomin' Brand Inc. during the height of coronavirus lockdowns and restrictions made the decision to maintain its payrolls and not furlough or lay off workers amid the numerous lockdowns. David Deno, CEO of Tampa, Fla.-based Bloomin' Brands, said the decision paid off in helping sales normalize when restaurant dining rooms were allowed to open some of their dining rooms. “When this first happened in mid-March, we wanted to do two things. One, we wanted to take care of our employees. And two, we wanted to serve great food in a safe environment — either in the restaurant or in peoples' homes.” Because of state and local coronavirus restrictions, that soon became exclusively off-premise Bloomin's brands, which include Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba's Italian Grill, Bonefish Grill, Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar and the newer stand-alone, drive-thru Aussie Grill by Outback. “We knew that if we could retain our people and pay them, even if they weren't working, and not let them go, it would improve employee engagement [and] that would enable us to bring people back right away when the restaurants reopened,” Deno said. “We wouldn't have to recruit people. And we wouldn't have to train people. That is exactly what happened.”

As we continue our quarantine series, Staying Sane, Andrew takes some time to talk with his Sis-in-Law Kelly Hettinger. Tim talks about what he's been up to this week as he finished his time with Wells Fargo and prepares to head back to Lowe's. How he and Olga had some good food and Bonefish Grill and Cabo Fish Taco. (0:38)A new Mac Miller project comes out January 17th. Tim discusses his thoughts on the debut single and his expectations for "Circles", the posthumous release from Mac. (3:45)The Vault: Shortly after Mac's passing in September 2018, Tim recorded a track paying tribute to the artist and decided this would be a great time to debut it for the world. Check out the track, "Close to Home". (9:36)Celebrity fitness trainer Jillian Michaels commented on Lizzo's weight in a recent interview and Tim has some questions about the outrage culture and claiming that Lizzo is being fat-shamed by the comments Michaels made. (13:37)Sports Microcosm: Every season when new NFL head coaches are being hired by teams, the Rooney Rule comes up. The rule that requires teams to interview at least one minority candidate. In 17 years of the rules existence, it hasn't solved the lack of minority coaches in the NFL. (23:41)Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens lost to the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Divisional Playoffs on Saturday and the hot takes and strong defenses flew about the likely MVP QB. Tim says both sides are missing the mark in their analysis of Jackson. (42:23)Parting Thought: The outrage culture and the move to make snap, reactionary judgments aren't benefiting anyone in our society. A lot of the topics discussed on this episode are examples of those views and they only cause more division between people. (47:47)

Young love, isn't it precious? Unless it's messing up your youth ministry! We're coming up on Valentine's Day, and you know what that means: We get to take our wives out to dinner based on where we can go for free! Steve and Karen will be dining at Bonefish Grill (courtesy of a gift card from someone at church), while Mathew and Gina will get free dinner at Fogo de Chao courtesy of the sponsor of the big volleyball tournament they are working that weekend. So what do we do with dating couples in our youth ministries? The truth is, there is little chance they will end up together, and little chance we can stop them. How do help protect their hearts for when things go sour, and how do we protect our ministries from the toxic fallout that descends in the wake of the break up? There are no easy answers, except to the one question everyone is wondering: What did Mathew say when he was invited to Prom? Episode 43 -- Love and Relationships
