Wow.. what a fun one this one was to put together. I tried a video recording along with recording the audio on my phone. The video will be on my Youtube channel so I can put it out there and start to do some different things. Not sure what all of those are, but I'm trying them for sure. The idea from this episode mainly came from a former student of mine, Rynn Foster who posted this awesome picture of a sunrise with the thought: “One day we'll all be a sunrise in someone's life, a beautiful sunrise” That got me thinking about the fact how special that will be having someone remember me when they look at a beautiful sunrise (or sunset too), along with the fact that it got me thinking about family and loved ones that are no longer here or those that I have not seen in a long time. There were a lot of emotions with this post when I saw it as my day got started out thinking about things in a more positive way, wanting to get better for myself and for others - especially in today's negative, angry and hateful world. Rynn helped to remind me of what I want to focus more on - I reached out to her and thanked her for this and it reminds me of one of many things that I love about being a life-long educator. My students / players / coworkers have always been difference makers for me and for many of them, it's been happening throughout my whole life!! Next time you see a sunrise or sunset, remember these things. Thanks for listening.

Fired up about this message today as it hit me when I saw it (again) and as I was sharing from my heart, it lit another spark inside of me too. I hope it does the same to you too. Who started this spark? It was Mark Hickie (@MPHickie) where he shares his reflections on the quote that he shared with this post: “A message for today … It's never too late to begin again. Regarding your mistakes? They're lessons, not failures. You're allowed to rise, rewrite & rediscover what truly feels like you. There's no expiration date on becoming who you're meant to be.” I absolutely dialed into his message about “no expiration date” - and it obviously made an impact on him as he pulled it from the quote too. Very powerful episode to not only share with others, but to give some feedback on too. Yes, I am writing some things down as I told you I was going to do…

Don Cherry's Coach's Corner segment on Hockey Night in Canada ended abruptly in 2019. Was it ever going to happen any other way? Controversial and entertaining, Cherry spoke his mind to the country for 37 years in the aforementioned first intermission segment. On Nov. 9, 2019, going over the top met with the times at hand and the contemporary media landscape. Cherry was fired by Sportsnet in what is known as “Poppygate”. Is there more to this story? Is there more to Grapes than most care to know? His late daughter decided she wanted to confront this matter and also the descriptions she so often heard and read about her dad. The result is The Don Cherry Story, by his Daughter, Cindy Cherry. It's a book that exists in two parts, the first deals with the front facing persona of her father, and the second which focuses on his life, on and off the ice. This episode is a conversation with Cindy's brother and Don's son, Tim Cherry, about the book and about his family. *Cindy Cherry passed away in July 2024. **This was recorded one week prior to Cherry's sign off from "The Don Cherry's Grapevine Podcast" on Sunday, June 22.

Over the last few years, I've been developing curriculum and resources that help leaders establish trust with their teams and enable teammates to build trust with one another. Because different people have different needs around trust, it can feel tricky to know exactly the right formula to help build trust with others. In spite of that, there are plenty of small things you can do every single day to help people understand who you are, how you operate, how you hold space for others, and how you navigate messiness that will inevitably help you build trust in any relationship. When people understand these pieces of you, they have the information they need to know if you are someone they can trust over the long haul. In this episode, we explore what a lack of trust looks like in an organization (perhaps this will look and feel familiar to you?). We talk about why trust is a foundational element required for high performance and a healthy culture, and what outcomes you can expect when you take the time to build trust within a team environment. Then, I give you simple, practical steps you can take to start building more trust today, no matter the current state of your team or organization. There is a common misconception that trust and the vulnerability required to build it are “soft,” but I would like to invite you to view trust as one of your key strategies for building authentic, meaningful relationships that yield great outcomes. Episode Highlights: 00:00 Building Trust: An Introduction 02:49 The Importance of Trust in Teams 06:05 Signs of a Lack of Trust 12:06 Leadership's Role in Trust Building 15:51 Practical Steps to Build Trust 21:05 The Outcomes of Teams that Trust 25:47 How to Run Team Trust Diagnostics 29:59 Connecting Values Around Trust to Action Links Mentioned: Hire me to speak: saradean.com/speaking Coach with me: https://saradean.com/executive-coaching-services Connect with me on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/saradeanspeaks Watch Shameless Leadership episodes on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@saradeanspeaks Interested in becoming a sponsor of the Shameless Mom Academy? What happens when leadership isn't about control but about a shared goal? What if the future business world looks more like a team, not a hierarchy? As more companies reconsider the traditional structures, models like worker cooperatives and employee-owned cooperatives are gaining momentum. They offer a way to codify culture, share decision-making, and maintain purpose beyond the founder's occupancy. These models present an agreeable alternative in a time when millions of small businesses face uncertain futures. It's time to see ownership as not a privilege for the few but a path for the many. John Abrams is a succession planning consultant, workplace democracy advocate, author, and the co-founder of both South Mountain Company and Abrams+Angell. He retired and handed over the company he started at age 24 in 2022, and started Abrams+Angell with his partner. They consult with the triple bottom line (TBL) businesses to help them with succession planning, worker co-op conversions, financial literacy, leadership development, and business effectiveness. He is the author of “From Founder to Future: A Business Roadmap to Impact, Longevity, and Employee Ownership,” which provides knowledge, strategies, and tools to help business owners successfully complete transitions. He joined us today to talk about forgetting hierarchy and running a company as a true team. HIGHLIGHTS [02:30] Understanding B corporations. [05:56] The Impact of Codifying Company Culture. [10:24] The importance of clear leadership for effective decision-making. [13:00] The differences between worker cooperatives, ESOPs, and employee ownership trusts. [15:00] What is democracy in business? [18:07] The importance of listening in a coorperative environment. [19:35] Turning the leadership into the next generation. [23:45] Open book management. [28:44] Employee ownership options. KEY TAKEAWAYS Regardless of how formal your systems become, stay focused on the human connection. Protect what makes your culture unique; growth and structure don't erase the personal touch. Define roles and trust them, collaborations don't mean everyone decides everything. Hire people who align with your values, not just job descriptions. Transitioning leadership takes intention, patience, and trust. Writing a book feels like a multi-year project that's impossible to fit into your busy entrepreneurial life—but what if you could go from idea to published bestseller in just 12 months? That's why I was excited to welcome Ashley Mansour, author and book coach, to Marketing #Unfiltered to break down exactly how to write a book that doesn't just sit on shelves, but actually generates clients and revenue for your business. We cover:➡️ Why the biggest myth about book writing (that it takes years) is keeping you stuck The three essential questions every business book must answer before you start writing ➡️ Speed writing techniques that help you create content in hours instead of months ➡️ How to structure your book as a client conversion tool, not just a credibility piece ➡️ The difference between writing a book and leveraging a book (and why most authors miss this) ➡️ Why giving your book away for free can be your most profitable strategy ➡️ How to hit bestseller status on multiple lists (yes, it's more achievable than you think)If you've been sitting on a book idea because it feels too overwhelming or time-consuming, this episode gives you the roadmap to make it happen without sacrificing your business or sanity.Resources mentioned on the episode:➡️ Ashley's free 3-Step Framework for structuring your book content: https://coaching.writingcoachla.com/4p-free-page ➡️ Instagram: @ashleywritesConnect with Ashley:Website: https://www.writingcoachla.comInstagram: @ashleywritesMarketing Unfiltered is hosted by Sophia, exploring authentic marketing strategies for entrepreneurs who want to build genuine connections with their audience.
Self-awareness is the first pillar of effective empathetic leadership in The Empathy Dilemma. If you don't know what's going on for you, you will never be able to make room for empathetic leadership.I highly recommend working with a leadership or executive coach to guide you in this self-discovery process. But the world of coaching is like the Wild West, with so many people promising the moon, engaging in unethical tactics, and giving the industry a bad name.Today, my guest, Bridgette Boudreau, talks about effective coaching relationships and how to embrace empathy to get the results you want. We had a meandering and meaningful conversation about false confidence, tips to find and work effectively with a coach, red flags to avoid, and how to recognize certain behavior patterns that are stopping you from getting the results you want. We also talk about the coaching industry and how ethical, genuine coaches can lean into marketing and selling with integrity so the right clients can find them.To access the episode transcript, please search for the episode title at www.TheEmpathyEdge.comKey Takeaways:Try doing some changes internally and seeing what changes about the situation - everybody at work that we're disagreeing with is not the enemy. Don't write off coaching forever if you have had a negative coaching experience.Vibes are important - if you are feeling in the flow, an openness, and like you're energetically on the same page, that's what you want in a coach.Take what you want and leave the rest. Be curious, try new things, and see what works for you. "Never give up your discernment. If something doesn't feel right, bring it up in the session. And if that doesn't feel safe, then that's not the right coaching relationship for you." — Bridgette Boudreau Episode References: Three OG Coaches PodcastFrom Our Partner:SparkEffect partners with organizations to unlock the full potential of their greatest asset: their people. Today I found another great reminder that it seemed was posted just for me and it came from Liminal (@Liminal1988) where it was shared that “After a certain age,...” we should really be responsible for our lives and where we are at. We can stop blaming our past, others, our mishaps, mistakes, etc., and realize we are where we are due to the choices we have made up until that point. Love the line that “you can either take ownership of your life or become a prisoner to excuses.” This is really not a surprise to me, for I agree with it 100%. Everything that I do, needs to be working toward the life I want to continue to build to help others, especially my family and those that I love! Thanks for listening. We're halfway through the year, advisors — and you know what that means. It's time to hit pause, get real about what's working (and what's not), and make sure you're set up to finish strong. In this episode, I'm sharing my favorite mid-year exercise: a SQUAD Analysis, plus a peek at how I do my own CEO Day to reset, reprioritize, and refocus for the second half of the year. Here's what you'll learn in this episode: 1️⃣ How to run your own S.Q.U.A.D Analysis (a fresh spin on SWOT just for advisors) 2️⃣ Which strengths you should scale — and which ones you shouldn't 3️⃣ How to spot the quicksand that's secretly dragging you down 4️⃣ The one-page Direction plan to keep you realistic and focused on what matters 5️⃣ How to pick your top 3 goals for the next quarter (without burning yourself out)No matter where you stand right now — ahead, behind, or coasting — this is your chance to recalibrate and play the rest of the year on purpose. In today's episode of Backpacker Radio presented by The Trek, brought to you by Topo Athletic, we are joined by Julia Sheehan, known on trail, as Rocket. Julia is a thru-hiker, former Trek Vlogger, social media sensation, nurse, and now a published author. Julia details how impulsive decision-making lead her to the wonderful world that is thru-hiking, inspired in part by everyone's favorite Hiking Viking. Rocket also shares how health issues ultimately forced her off-trail, the unsavory response she's gotten from some in the social media sphere in light of “quitting” and subsequently posting non-hiking content. Julia also shares the process in self-publishing her brand new book, Hiking is the Easy Part, a memoir of her thru-hike on the AT. We wrap the show with some news about Trail Correspondents 2026 edition, the story of a hiker that was found alive at a popular PCT pitstop after being lost in the backcountry for weeks, how much weight people lose during an AT thru-hike (and why it's generally not a good long term weight loss strategy), Chaunce and I have a borderline-impossible coincidence during today's QOTD, and the triple crown of albums.
