Armon, Will Foster, and Miss2Bees are back after some time apart. Miss2Bees debuts her new segment What's Buzzing on These Streets, calling out Tory Lanez's own appeal filings as an effective admission in the Megan Thee Stallion case and unpacking how legal journalism and misinformation are failing the culture (3:40), before the team revisits Omarion vs. Mario, live vocals, and early-2000s R&B egos (9:40). They then dive into “Rory-Gate,” resurfaced tweets, Twitter Spaces damage control, and what the saga reveals about anti-Blackness and how Black women are routinely targeted (16:38). Next, a deep breakdown of the 2026 GRAMMY nominations across Hip-Hop, R&B, Album and Song of the Year, touching Bad Bunny's run, K-Pop Demon Hunters, Cardi B and Gunna snubs, Mariah the Scientist discourse, and how kids shape the charts (31:58). From there, the gang reviews new music—Cardi B, Latto & Jeezy's “Everytime” remix and whether it should've been on the original album (55:19), Meek Mill's Indie Pack Vol. 1 and his “Fourth of July” visual, hood PTSD, and AI chains (57:40), Summer Walker's Finally Over It trilogy finale and where it ranks next to Over It and Still Over It (1:06:45), plus Wale's everything is a lot., his immigrant-parent text thread, catalog, and longevity (1:13:28). In this week's Board Meeting, Armon opens up about being laid off in the VIBE/Rolling Stone merger and uses that to examine media consolidation, Black writers and label staff being cut, DEI rollbacks, lazy A&R, AI artists, the death of discovery, and what a return to Black-run boutique systems could look like (1:22:25). Will then introduces his new discovery segment, spotlighting rising Southern-rooted artist Gabriel Jacoby and why his warm, live-instrument, Sunday-clean-the-house soul feels like the kind of music listeners can really connect to right now (1:50:16). Cultural critic Jason A. England joins Bomani Jones to discuss 1995, one of the most pivotal years in the evolution of hip-hop. They highlight how regions like New York, Houston, and California each developed distinct styles and sounds, and how regional diversity enabled rich cultural exchange, as fans eagerly explored the unique flavors of rap from different cities. They discuss how Mobb Deep and the Wu-Tang Clan were not only influential in New York but also shaped hip-hop's sound nationwide. They note that hip-hop was not just a musical genre but a cultural movement that influenced fashion, language, and lifestyle. They recount personal anecdotes of their experiences listening to music and attending shows, illustrating how the community around hip-hop was as important as the music itself. Today, we're thinking about Marcyliena Morgan, a keeper extraordinaire, a linguistic anthropologist who founded and championed the Hip Hop Archive at Harvard. Marcyliena Hazel Morgan was born in Chicago, May 8, 1950 and passed away September 28, 2025. We were fortunate to interview her in 2018 as part of the opening story in our NPR series The Keepers, about activist archivists, rogue librarians, curators, collectors and historians. Keepers of the culture and the cultures and collections they keep. Guardians of history large and small, protectors of the free flow of information and ideas. Individuals who take it upon themselves to preserve some part of our cultural heritage. Marcyliena Morgan was all that and more. Our story delves into the the founding of the Hip Hop Archive and Research Institute at Harvard by Dr. Morgan and Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. to “facilitate and encourage the pursuit of knowledge, art, culture, scholarship and responsible leadership through Hiphop.”You'll hear from Professor Morgan, Professor Gates, Nas, Patrick Douthit aka 9th Wonder, an array of Harvard archivists and students studying at the archive as well as the records, music and voices being preserved there. We've also included more of our original interview with Dr. Morgan. The Kitchen Sisters Present is produced by The Kitchen Sisters (Davia Nelson & Nikki Silva) with Nathan Dalton and Brandi Howell. We're part of the Radiotopia Network from PRX.

The Dads break down the cultural phenomenon, sharing laughs and insights on how fandoms like this sparked kids' creativity and excitement. But it's not all fun and games. The conversation turns to the role of Ai in parenting, with the Dads discussing the new app “Joy,” imagining hilarious variations like an abuela (grandma) edition, and discussing how tech is creeping into everyday life. They also unpack “snowplow parenting,” emphasizing the value of letting kids figure things out before stepping in, and share practical tips for navigating the challenges and surprises of raising the next generation. Energetic, funny, and insightful, this episode proves parenting doesn't have to be boring. It can be a wild ride full of lessons, laughs, and heart to hearts. In this conversation, he opens up about the highs and lows of being a producer in hip-hop: the pressure, the politics, the contracts, the moments that nearly broke him, and the breakthroughs that almost didn't happen. He also shares the lessons shaped by fatherhood, betrayal, and real perseverance — all while creating some of the most important and culture-defining music of our time. And The Writer Is... Hitboy! From there, they dive deeper into Twitter/X pile-ons, apology etiquette, mental health, and how far "reprimanding" versus outright harassment can go online (14:15). The crew salutes Art of Dialogue's interviews with 90s Black TV stars and uses them to frame the old "sell your soul in Hollywood" conversation and what those "tests" look like today (50:53), then flip it into a wild bit on what number it would take to "sell your soul," Benny Medina/Will Smith lore, and brand deals with AI platforms like ChatGPT (55:15). Jason shares his path from Utah's freestyle community to building a career outside the traditional LA route, and the mindset behind choosing what actually feels right. They dig into the responsibilities of teachers and influencers online, the short-sightedness that's causing dance studios and conventions business, and a shift in what dancers want to do professionally. Jason and Galit also explore whether competitions are watering down dance, how COVID changed the mentality of young dancers, and why the best teachers don't rely on the “combo.” This episode pulls back the curtain on connecting the generations, talent development, and what it really means to create good dancers - not just good perfectionists. Instagram Youtube TiktokSpotifyBio Clinton Brand III, better known as CBIII, is a California-based rapper whose new single “I Won't Quit” delivers a motivational and relatable message for anyone facing hardship. Produced by Tunna Beats, the track carries a Blurry Face energy. It opens with a violin and the soft vocalizations of featured singer Alex Brinkley. When the beat drops, piano, bass, and drums blend with CBIII's reflections on overthinking, contemplating, and debating why he refuses to give up.Lines such as:Sad but I should be filled with joy.Played with my heart just like it was a toy.But the truth is I'm tired of venting. This constant feeling is relentless.Nobody wants to listen and everyone is a critic.Hate my life but I won't give up, I can't give in.illustrate the emotional tension of the song. “I Won't Quit” confronts the fear of failure—what if I'm not good enough—while contrasting it with the resilience expressed in the title. The song's final quatrain is especially powerful. Beginning with CBIII's signature wordplay, the message ultimately becomes one of determination and positive change:Phenomenal and astronomical anomaly, that's what I would like to be.I don't want to eat, I don't want to sleep.Tired of this life, the way that I've been living. It's time to make a change for the greater good. This battle with self-doubt and constant overthinking makes “I Won't Quit” deeply relatable. CBIII hopes listeners feel inspired to stay strong when they face similar struggles. The inspiration behind the song is intensely personal. After losing both parents at a young age, Brand was raised by his grandmother and later entered foster care. A recent visit, during which he saw his grandmother's memory fading, was painful for him because she had once been his greatest supporter. It left him feeling abandoned and in a dark place.“I wrote the song ‘I Won't Quit' because at that time I was suicidal. I didn't have anybody else to turn to because my grandma didn't really care anymore,” he shares. The vulnerability in the lyrics initially made him hesitant to release the track. “I actually sat on the song for about five months before even thinking about releasing it because it is so close to home that I wasn't sure if I would have the courage to share it.”Now that the song is out, that vulnerability has become its greatest strength. Many listeners can identify with the experience of missing family support, doubting themselves, and still knowing they must push forward.Beyond his personal drive to achieve greatness, Brand has another powerful motivation: his younger brother, who is also in foster care. Knowing his brother looks up to him, he wants to be an example that resilience matters.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/creator-to-creators-with-meosha-bean--4460322/support.

Join us for a special edition of FaceTime with The Baseline featuring best-selling author and cultural commentator Shea Serrano. Hosted by co-host Warren Shaw, this episode dives into Serrano's latest book, Expensive Basketball, a captivating exploration of basketball's unquantifiable magic beyond the box-score. Shea opens up about his journey — from middle-school science teacher to four-time New York Times bestseller author (including hits like Basketball (and Other Things). He shares how Expensive Basketball reframes iconic players, moments and games — from the final 196 seconds of Kobe Bryant's career to the fearless artistry of Tim Duncan and the motion poetry of Sue Bird — through the lens of emotion, memory and what a truly great hoop moment feels like.In this wide-ranging conversation, Serrano talks about writing with humor and heart, the evolving culture of basketball storytelling, and how Expensive Basketball pushes back against the era of numbers-only analysis in sports. Whether you're a die-hard NBA fan or simply love stories that make you feel the game, this episode is a must-listen.
