This week we're joined by award-winning scholar, ethnomusicologist, and cultural anthropologist Dr. Kyra Gaunt to explore the powerful intersections of music, play, and identity in the lives of Black girls and women. Dr. Gaunt, author of The Games Black Girls Play: Learning the Ropes from Double-Dutch to Hip-Hop, offers a brilliant breakdown of how musical play, like hand games, cheers, and jump rope rhymes, does more than entertain. It becomes a form of cultural transmission, identity-building, and resistance for Black girls navigating their earliest social worlds. About the Podcast The Therapy for Black Girls Podcast is a weekly conversation with Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, a licensed Psychologist in Atlanta, Georgia, about all things mental health, personal development, and all the small decisions we can make to become the best possible versions of ourselves. Listen to an interview with the experimental Indiana hip-hop group 81355. Also hear music from their new album Bad Dogs. 81355 was formed in 2021 as a trio, featuring Oreo Jones, Sirius Black and David Moose Adamson. Each member brought a rich and varied history to the project, leading some to label the band an Indianapolis super-group. Their debut album This Time I'll Be of Use was issued that same year on 37d03d, a label founded by Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, and Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National. The album received national attention, earning praise from Pitchfork, Consequence and Flood. Bad Dogs is the group's second album and it finds the trio expanding into a full band, with Sharlene Birdsong on bass, Dimitri Morris on guitar, and Pat Okerson on drums.

No Brakes Nu' is on fire in this raw, unfiltered episode of A Pod Named Kickback. From Dr. Cheyenne Bryant preaching accountability while playing a man for five years, to RG3 disrespecting Angel Reese with a racist meme—Nu' holds everybody accountable. This ain't no gender war—it's truth time. Why do women defend wrong behavior when they criticize men for the same thing? Why are some women trying so hard to become the very f*ckboys that broke their hearts?
Token has undeniably been one of the leading names coming out of MA within the last 10 years! Since going on tour with Hopsin for the first time at 17yrs old and headlining his first show at 19, this young 26yr old from Salam/Marblehead has garnered a large fan base from his high-level technical ability to rap. Sharp delivery, word-play, witty lyrics, and unorthodox flows have attributed to his cult-like following but it's his very truthful and transparent storytelling that captured the attention of Charlie MaSheen & the gang over here at CWTFB Radio. With the recent release of Token's latest album, "I'm Not Supposed To Be Here", it was finally time for us to have a talk with him and take a deep dive into what he represents as a man and an artist. This week join Charlie MaSheen & Bellez as we dissect some of the song's on Toke's latest release, his relationship with his late father, being a Jewish man in Hip-Hop, childhood trauma, and SO MUCH MORE! We appreciate Token for being so forthcoming and vulnerable in a conversation that you WON'T WANT TO SKIP! TAP INNNNN!
