Do you wonder how government works and what gets in the way of it working? Are you frustrated with governmental leadership? Do you want to know ways that governments and leaders can be more effective? Our special guest John Bernard is here to answer these and many other questions about the ways government works and doesn't work. Our special guest is John Bernard, a consultant and author who works with state governments and their agencies to help them create results. As John says, he “sells hope” to governments and their leaders to make a difference. The Impact Leadership Podcast is brought to you by Cardivera, the leadership development eco-system that helps your grow your people, grow your business and grow your life. Show Notes In this episode you'll learn… States on average create 300 new laws annually Results are often not the measure in state government The current reality is that most state laws are written by lobbyists The key shift is to focus on and measure results Brookings Institute Study – Basis for federal lawmakers' decisions … the facts constituted 3% of the decision One big problem is we don't learn from each other – virtually every social issue has been solved by someone, but we don't learn from and adopt what we know works. Three Phases of Government Maturation – 1. Reaction Driven (vast majority today); 2. Results Driven (change the decision-making mechanism to make things better); 3. Social Good Driven (focus attention, policies and dollars where we know it works – addressing root causes to transform society) One solution is to have a common set of measures across all the states with resulting accountability What's required to be a transformational leader in governmental leadership Key problem – when programs save money, the government takes it away In government, operations and process inefficiencies and waste are close to 60% (this the capacity to do whatever you want to do) Leadership and management matters in government Measurements and dashboards are essential, but not for punishment … they must be used to incite exploration, to inspire understanding and dig into the truth to find out what's going on Trust is built, not granted Key change is to impress across the broad spectrum of government of the value of results – it's an organizing mechanism Focus on what actually works versus what we think works Most states have scorecards which are really valuable to assess a state's performance (and governments must manage with these scorecards) Essential to assess whether the scorecards and dashboards are measuring the right things (e.g. Ford Motor Company – all the dashboards are in green but we reported a $5B loss) There's a difference between measures and results (measures must align with desired results) Resources: John Bernard Results-Driven Manager Master Class for State Managers Government That Works: The Results Revolution in the States book by John Bernard Business at the Speed of Now: Fire Up Your People, Thrill Your Customers, and Crush Your Competitors book by John Bernard The Impact Leadership Podcast Cardivera

Claire will be sharing the keys to effectively productizing your services into online products and programs. The Impact Leadership Podcast is brought to you by Cardivera, the leadership development eco-system that helps your grow your people, grow your business and grow your life. Show Notes Episode highlights … Artificial intelligence is here and its value applies to many businesses Productizing services is much more than putting your services online It's essential that you deeply understand what you deliver and what your clients get from your services before you shift them into products Essentials for creating online courses You don't have to lose the magic of your services when you take them on online Online courses often enhance your clients' learning experience and understanding Productization requires careful consideration and understanding of all the steps that go into what you now deliver as a service Many online programs have to be cut into smaller slices of time and learning (you can't deliver a live program into an online program with the same time slots) The importance of considering and designing the client journey and experience when it comes to productized services and programs The value of being intentional in designing your courses and programs (and often engaging a design expert) Services that require a high level of technical knowledge will be more difficult to productize Effective productization requires that you continue to reassess your process, “product” and client experience … and then continuously improve your online product The reality that productization takes a great deal of time and work You also must address the question of how people will find your online product / course It's important to take a 360 degree look at your entire design, offering, product, process, launch, etc. in order to get it right The productization golden nugget – it's ALL about the customer journey! Sebastien will be sharing many tangible ways to enhance your leadership and achieve what you desire from life. The Impact Leadership Podcast is brought to you by Cardivera, the leadership development eco-system that helps your grow your people, grow your business and grow your life. Show Notes Episode highlights: The vital role of motivation in achieving your goals and desired outcomes The Anglo-Saxon influence (U.S., UK, Australia, etc.) on leadership around the world which is highly individualistic (i.e. “you can do it” or “I can do it”) The ways that money is often seen as “bad” if you have too much Money is not the destination – it's the fuel for the journey Beware of the trap of “once I get there” I'll have the money, the impact, the fun, etc. The empowerment that comes from shifting from “I have to” to “I want to” – take the “I have to” items off your list The ways that “I have to” actually lessen the chance that you'll actually do it The important role that perspectives play in your leadership and life experience Stop talking about how much you want to do something and do it … and stop suffering if you think or talk about it The powerless that comes when you talk about what you want to do without taking action towards it The culturization of negative motivation – if I feel bad enough about something I'll be motivated to take action to make myself feel better (which is more suffering than fun) The importance of embracing celebration in our lives – not just results but who you are The importance of regularly looking back to see and celebrate what you've already achieved Finding more joy while on the journey (not just at the destination) – joy is a practice and a choice (not a result) Joy is an emotional volcano and it's contagious It's important to slow down enough to take the time to really celebrate The importance of integrating and balancing the old sage, the adult and the child – Wisdom of the old sage – Adult makes sure things get done – Child lives fully, celebrates and lives in joy and fun The ways that our desire for control limits celebration, joy and fun (and kill the child in us) Resources: Sebastien Roger de Nunez Thought Leadership Academy Facebook Group The Impact Leadership Podcast Cardivera

The Impact Leadership Podcast is brought to you by Cardivera, the leadership development eco-system that helps your grow your people, grow your business and grow your life. Show Notes In this episode you'll learn… Shifting from avoiding conflict as a goal to embracing conflict as a learning experience and a path to enhanced relationships and better outcomes The ways that avoiding conflict damage relationships, break trust and limit the solutions and innovation Understanding the silence or violence approach to conflict The impact of shifting your default conflict to collaboration over avoidance Conflict is often a precursor to positive change in our lives Conflict is a normal and natural occurrence Conflict cannot be avoided (only pushed off into the future) – the impact of conflict ultimately surfaces The ways that avoiding or ignoring conflict and emotions is unhealthy Embracing the “partnership mindset” when it comes to communication and conflicts Knowing when it's best to not have the conflict conversation in the heat and emotions of the conflict. Feelings and emotions are not the issue with conflict – the issue is addressing the conflict when you're still deeply feeling the emotions Communication is more a way of being than a way of communicating Assume that everyone on earth is rational and seek to understand the rationale behind their behavior and communication Being aware that most conflict is based upon a collision of each person's truth in that moment … the questions is not if they're right or wrong, but the ways their truth collides with your truth (perceptions) Many conflicts are based upon unconscious behaviors and beliefs The importance of forgiveness in resolving interpersonal conflicts Effective conflict communication is directly connected to the growth mindset (everything is an opportunity to grow) Seeing people in our lives and even conflicts as a gift in our lives and leadership Non-violent communication is really about more compassion and vulnerable communication Resources: Jonathan Miller LinkedIN Mindful Communication (Promo Code Impact50 for tool) Mindful Communication Podcast Non-Violent Communication: A Language of Life Book by Marshall Rosenberg The Impact Leadership Podcast Cardivera
