Having grown up following the standard North American lifestyle of eating junk food, taking medications, stressing out over everything, and repressing her emotions, Samantha became sick. At 26, she was diagnosed with a form of blood cancer and told that she needed to start chemotherapy and radiation. Not wanting to accept that as her first option of treatment, Samantha opted for a different approach and began to heal herself in a multi-faceted natural approach which you will learn about during this interview. Now Samantha is a Lifestyle Alchemist, Yin Yoga Instructor & Certified Nutritional Practitioner specializing in Psychoneuroendoimmunology. She is also the founder of Real Life But Better, a Holistic Nutrition and Wellness Wonderland where she educates about the power of self-healing and mentors her clients in achieving optimal mind/body/soul alignment. Samantha has made it her mission to facilitate the practice of naturopathic self-healing through self care, self love, empowerment, and much much more... In This Episode, You Will Learn: Why she decided to opt out of chemo (5:07) Why you need to pay attention to what your prescribed and diagnosed with (6:28) Why so many doctors aren't taught about the natural healing path (8:54) How her belief system was keeping her sick (13:48) The reason why people are afraid to be happy (18:39) Why each of us are perfect (19:44) How to handle negative self talk (23:38) The common denominator between diseases (26:22) Why life is just a video game (34:30) How to stay committed in the midst of distractions (39:21)
This episode makes me so happy. From the experience of the recording to the interview itself, I'm so proud of this conversation and excited for you to hear it. I talk with the amazingly wise psychiatrist and founder of Positive Prescriptions Dr. Samantha Boardman. We spoke for over almost two hours on an array of tools the uses to help her patients and wisdom she accrued over her years as a practicing therapist in New York City. Dr. Sam radiates a kindness and has an energy that is so pure and inspiring. In re-listening to her episode I was inspired all over again. Her website, Positive Prescription is dedicated to sharing inspiration around tweaks and changes people can make that are life-enhancing and resilience-building. We discuss many of these little changes and additions people can add to their lives to enhance the good and joy in the everyday. Everything she offers is all science-backed, research-driven, actionable, productive and digestible. I hope you get something valuable out of this episode, I know I've already applied much of what she shared into my own life. I love Danielle LaPorte and her work. I've been following her closely for over 5 years, reading every book and listening to her on every podcast. She's been a mentor from afar and on my list of future pod guests (and a popular request from so many listeners!) since day one.. Danielle embodies so much of what I admire in a women. She values creativity above all else, has learned from experience how to combine fierce persistence with ease, finds gratitude in even the craziest situations, and mothers in a way I admire. She is constantly growing and learning, which she talks about on today's episode as well as in her new book, White Hot Truth, which I loved. It's a refreshing self-help book that's unlike any other self-help content. It's a playbook for owning our individual joy and spirituality without all the dogma and rules the modern personal growth world often promotes. This is one of those books that you want in hardcopy; to read, reread, underline, and notate. I took so many notes from this book about life, creativity, gratitude, finding flow and more. We cover all of these topics plus some of my others I was eager to ask Danielle about like feminism, body image, motherhood, full-time jobs and entrepreneurship, and of course the usual quick fire questions. I discovered Ashley C Ford a few years ago on Lena Dunham's podcast Women of the Hour. After listening to her very soothing voice for the hour and connecting with what she spoke, I started following her on Twitter (highly recommend) and reading every essay she's ever written. She's one of the most honest and talented writers I've ever read and I admire her deeply....which you'll hear me gush about throughout this episode. If you have gotten any of my recent emails or if your in the podcast facebook group it's likely you have seen me sharing Ashley Ford's writings. Specifically this last essay she did which I've shared a bunch. Ashley is a brilliant, and incredibly authentic--the type of person I could spend all day talking with. She has been one of my mentors from afar and I'm super excited to continue to learn from her and hopefully take classes from her eventually. In today's conversation we explore topics like "feeling enough", relationships, contentment, of course writing, moving to New York from the Midwest, body image, and the importance of communication. Instead of me interviewing the guest, I've brought back one of the podcast's first guests and a good friend, Sacha Jones of Stiggly's Holistics NYC, to interview me. I'm calling it a special birthday episode as well as a sort of podcast birthday / anniversary. It's been over four years since I started this and so much has changed over those years with me, the podcast, the blog, and the direction I want things to go. For long time pod listeners, thank you for all your support as I've changed and so has the show. And for new listeners, thank you too for giving the podcast a chance and feel free to check out some of those early (and very different) episodes from the younger days of the podcast (and the host). Sacha dives into so many topics many of them inspired from the listener questions in the Facebook Group. You'll hear us discuss where I'm at now with body image, wellness, feminism, feeling feelings, my upcoming move to NYC, where I want my work & podcast to go, my new relationship (!!), plus some fun quick-fire questions.... links to everything we mention are below as always. — Show Sponsors —care/ofI'm really loving Care/Of supplements. Full show notes here. Sarah Britton of My New Roots was one of the first food blogs I started following over 7 years ago. Sarah didn't know it at the time but she was my holistic habits mentors - teaching me from a far everything from how to cook quinoa, to the wonder that is nutritional yeast and other kitchen tricks I had never heard of. Now, years later, her blog has become hugely popular, she's become a mother to a beautiful baby boy, has written two books, and her business has expanded beyond what she had ever expected. In this conversation we explore topics you may expect like healthy habits both in the kitchen and in everyday life. But we also talk about things you may not have expected like manifestation, travel and living abroad, and our mutual love for Abraham Hicks. There is something for everyone in this conversation and honestly we could have talked for hours more. Take a listen and let us know what you think in the Facebook Group. If you loved the episode and have more questions that we didn't cover post them there . I've also got a couple events coming up I hope to see some of you at! Today's episode is with the very wise Dr. Christiane Northrup. She's an OBGYN who has been the leader in holistic female health since the early 1990s. She's been featured on Oprah several times and her many best selling books have helped shift people's approach to health (like the bigger picture 'health' that expands beyond the physical), especially for women. For long-time pod listeners you may remember that I interviewed her daughter Kate Northrup as one of my first guests on the show. Dr. Northrup is so wise and gives such interesting information about sex, pleasure, and relationships as well as so much more in this episode. In our conversation we cover her background and her past work, why it has been so important and how that has led her to the work she is doing now and her latest book she wrote. We cover her wisdom gained on 'getting older', the changes in the medicine and wellness industry, the importance of embracing sexuality, the interconnectedness (in our bodies and beyond). She lists so many good resources in this episode, especially books, so be sure to check out the show notes below. If you have any questions for Dr. Northrup or myself tweet at us or reach out to us in the Facebook Group here. I am so grateful for all the love & support that has been coming in!! And I'm excited to share a new episode today on the podcast! I sat down with one of my inspirations, Katie Dalebout to talk about podcasting, book publishing, journaling and body image. I first discovered Katie's podcast, Let it Out (formerly the Wellness Wonderland) through my friend Jasmine who was raving to me about it. Over the past year I've enjoyed listening to the inspirational speakers, authors and experts she has on the show. I also recently read Katie's book, Let it Out and was amazed reading the introduction of how this book came into manifestation. (Listen to the episode to hear Katie tell the story herself). I'm so glad to be back to sharing these interviews with you!! Here's what to expect in today's episode: How Katie magically landed a deal to publish her book with Hay House The importance of releasing our attachments in manifestation Katie's story of finding love for her body and how journaling played a role in her healing Katie's perspective on when it's right to be a full time entrepreneur and when it works to stay with a full time job How she handles vulnerability and being looked up to as a leader in her field Katie's favorite morning and evening rituals All about Katie's latest book Let it out! Love, Meredith Through her writing, workshops, and podcasts, millennial blogger, yoga teacher, and podcast host Katie Dalebout explores creativity is a gateway to developing a positive body image and true holistic wellness. She’s a contributor to Refinery29, Mind Body Green, and her work has been featured in Teen Vogue, Yahoo Health, and The Daily Mail. Her story parallels mine in many ways and we share so much in common in our evolution over the past few years and how that has affected our lives and our work. On this weeks episode I have two of my favorite fan girls from one of the most amazing podcasts I've been recently listening to. Some of you may have actually already heard me in the hotseat on their show, if not be sure the check out that episode too! We dive into lots of topics including writing, podcasting, and of course the difference between 80's babies and 90's babies and beyond. It was so great to get to virtually hang out with Deanna & Emily and hear how they ended up in LA, how the podcast came to be, and get some OMFG advice from them on tattoos, relationships, and other things in life. Katie shares with us her personal story of how she got started on her health and wellness journey. She takes us to her lowest point and how she has transformed her life into a wellness wonderland. It hasn’t been just about physical wellness, but also about spirituality, meditation, relationships and creativity. Making her life, not just her body, her masterpiece. Katie is a huge proponent of journaling. It’s comforting, non-judgmental, takes you out of your head. She’s such a fan that’s she’s created a book about it. A great tool to help you discover yourself and get un-stuck: Let It Out: A Journey Through Journaling.
Today I've got a special guest and topic for you guys in honor of the release of my book, Let It Out! Jenn Hand is a fellow journaler and we talk about how our different (but similar) journeys have evolved with this transformational tool. Journaling started as a tool for us to help get clarity in our minds around our thoughts and emotions connected to eating and body image. Today we use it for so much more. I hope you guys enjoy this episode and either begin your own journaling practice or dive deeper into one you already have! In this week’s WWRadio I talk to my Healthy {girl} Crush, Jenny Sansouci about health, spirituality, music, Gabby Bernstein, eating out, and more. My friend Jenny lives in a high vibe Wellness Wonderland of her own. Basically, she's just awesome. I swear every post she writes from her Instagram to her blog speaks right to my soul. She’s the publisher of HealthyCrush.com a widely successful blog that is actually one that inspired me to start Wonderland back. She’s a health coach for Dr. Frank Lipman and a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, with a certificate in Food Therapy from the Natural Gourmet Institute. She sends out a rad weekly email called Healthy Highs, providing the most life-enhancing, vibe-raising resources she can find. Everything she does is cool, but my favorite part of Jenny Sansouci is following her adventures in high-vibe-land on Instagram, she uses insta as a mini blog chronicling her life seeking out healthy highs throughout her day. Her unique authentic, oh so real voice shines through every post & her advice on her blog has greatly impacted me personally from grounded break-up advice to advice on decluttering to breakfast advice and recipes, she’s got a little of it all over on Healthy Crush and she shares many of her current healthy crushes and high vibe tips in this episode from everything from food to creativity.
In this week’s WWRadio we get down to business. My friend Alex Beadon is in Wonderland teaching us how to turn creative passion into life’s work. She’s an expert at getting payed to do what you love and you’ll love hearing how to make it happen. Alex is a rockstar who runs a six figure business from her laptop and teaches others to do the same with passion and positivity. Alex has been called the next Marie Forleo and her service mentality and soul centered work ethic makes her stand out from the crowd. She believes business should feel good and in this episode she give us her top tips on how to create your business Wellness Wonderland. We get into her personal story including how she shifted from a career as a freelance photographer to a marketing genius as well as her personal daily routines that help her remain grounded in her own Wellness Wonderland. Get ready to be inspired like crazy. Enjoy this rockstar of a guest & feel free to leave her questions or comments below, we will both write back to you.
This week's WWRadio is so inspirational I can hardly even handle it. Connie Chapman is on the show talking to us about intuition, following your purpose, and starting something that matters. Connie a writer, speaker, life-coach, and leader of the spiritual movement keeping people inspired all over the globe. From where she lives in Australia to where I am in America, her message of positivity and creating your desired life is in perfect alignment with what I promote in Wonderland! In this conversation we explore how to actually effectively use the practice of visualization, how to gracefully handle the transitions in your life, and how to live your purpose in every moment regardless of what you're doing. Connie is massively inspirational and this episode was full of deep a-ha moments for me. I can't wait to hear which lines resonate with you. I know you'll enjoy Connie's visit to Wonderland as much as I did. Enjoy.
Today’s WWRadio guest is one of my favorite people and the person who transformed my relationship to exercise. Erin Stuland is the creator of Shrink Session, a workout that not only tones your body but expands your mind. Erin’s career began as a dancer where she toured with several professional companies before moving into acting, where she was on many TV shows including Sex and The City, The Sopranos and Mad Men. Erin’s focus shifted from performance a bit and moved into sharing her talents in a different way through fitness. She was one of four intenSati Leaders and studied closely with it’s creator, Patricia Moreno. She has appeared on The Today Show and The Dr. Oz Show. Her program Shrink Session: Tone Your Body, Expand Your Mind is truly a game changer, even if you hate exercise you’ll love this. Her mission is to inspire, educate and empower people in a fun, entertaining, tell it like it is way and she does it all and more so authentically and best of all she’s super articulate and down to earth. We get into her journey, backstory, and the future of her business all in this inspirational episode.
Today’s WWRadio is probably the one that has inspired me most since I recorded it back in February. I’ve already implemented many of the ideas we discussed here into my life and have already seen amazing results. This week I chatted with Jordan Bach who is an all around super cool guy I look up to a ton as a spiritual guru and leader. Jordan is a life coach, writer, and speaker and a champion for gays inspiring people all around the world. He’s been called “one of the LGBT architects of the next decade” by The Advocate and he runs the site TheBachBook.com an online home for gay men who want to make the most of their lives. I’m so excited to for you to hear our deep chat and his inspiration. His is so wise, authentic, and most of all massively down-to-earth. He’s doing amazing work to inspire what I aspire to inspire here in the Wellness Wonderland which is: radical deep authenticity. We get deep into this more in this episode, but what Jordan believes is that authenticity is about balance and going in and out of authenticity with grace and ease. This, and everything he shared was hugely impactful and I know you’ll want to turn up the volume on this week’s episode and brace yourself for being hugely inspired.
Today's WWRadio guest is one of my biggest mentors and listening to his podcast greatly inspired this podcast. Jonathan Fields here is a serial-entrepreneur, award-winning author, speaker, host of my absolute favorite podcast and webshow Goodlife Project, where he interviews that best worldshakers visionaries and entrepreneurs. The show is genuine, long-form, and massively inspirational conversations. As we discuss in this week's episode, through listening to the eclectic mix of interviews in GoodLife Project's body of work your excuses for not living your life purpose will be null and void. Through all his episodes his visionary guests showcase outcomes proving that regardless of stuggles success is available to all who hustle and want it bad enough. It as an honor interviewing Jonathan who is usually the interviewer. He is on a mission to help individuals and organizations build better businesses, art and lives in less time, with more joy. He’s been featured the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, Inc., Bloomberg BusinessWeek, Entrepreneur, Forbes, USA Today, Yoga Journal, Vogue, Self, Fitness, Allure, Elle, O Magazine, CNBC, CNN.com, PBS Nightly Report and His latest book, Uncertainty: Turning Fear and Doubt Into Fuel For Brilliance, was named #1 personal development book of 2011. We get into his story, personal practices, tips for entrepreneurs, and how to overcome uncertainty.
It's a milestone for the WWRadio, this is episode number 40! Who better to bring us into the forties than my mentor and guru, the one and only Gabrielle Bernstein. If you've spent any time in Wonderland at all you already know that Gabby is a beyond successful author, speaker, entrepreneur, visionary, Kundalini and yoga teacher who is legit changing the world. Her work is a direct reflection of the authentic transformational work she's done on herself and her ability to teach others to implement these principles to change their lives as well. She is obviously a huge inspiration to me & I'm thrilled to share my conversation with her with Wonderland. She is everything she appears to be and more. If you're new to Gabby she has so much to offer you! Her third book, Miracles Now is essentially a "Gabby Bernstein Greatest Hits Album." Her previous 3 books have been best sellers & are mainstays on my self. Gabby is an amazing writer, but what she loves doing is speaking! You must see her lecture, either check out her videos or check out her book tour because she may be coming your way. I'm so excited for you to get a taste of Gabby if you're new or get a tune up of all things Gabby if you're a Gabby connoisseur as I am. In this conversation I asked what I'd been dying to ask Gabby as well as questions sent in by you. Enjoy every moment of this very special podcast episode I adore.
Today’s WWRadio guest is Alexis Sclamberg, a lawyer-turned-self-help writer, speaker, and entrepreneur. She’s been called “the self-help voice of her generation,” and is the co-founder of the national event initiative, an amazing event called Elevate Gen Y. She is at work on her first book and contributes everywhere from Forbes to Cosmopolitan to The Huffington Post to NPR. Alexis is not only a smart, successful business woman and entrepreneur, she’s also a genuinely authentic, kind, and wise person. I’ve gotten to know her personally a bit and I admire both her work and willingness to be truly helpful. She is an amazing person and you’ll love the grounded advice and inspiration she shares in this episode. We discuss entrepreneurship at length and her personal journey to it as well as tips on how she stays living her version of Wellness Wonderland even when things get busy.
Anita Goa New York City yoga and fitness instructor and author who has been featured everywhere from The Today Show to The View and countless other media outlets. She's also, the yoga guru I credit to rekindling my lost spark for yoga. I talk about how she did this and much more in today's amazing conversation. You'll love getting to know Anita as much as I did through this episode where she is so authentic and inspiring sharing her story of finding yoga, how to stay healthy in your 20s, and how to find your own flow on and off the mat. She's an inspiring lady with vast knowledge in the human body, fitness, and how we as humans are impacted by the moon cycles. She inspires a crew of thousands weekly on her successful YouTube channel where she shares unique yoga flows, fitness routines, and meditations often timely corresponding to the moon phases. So turn up the episode on this week's P-cast and prepare to be inspired both on and off the yoga mat.
Today’s WWRadio guest is Angela Russell, a fellow Detroit local making our community a Wellness Wonderland. She’s a blogger, eco-entrepreneur, yogi who is passionate about whole food cooking, nutrition, fermenting, DIY and traveling. Angela’s journey to a holistic lifestyle inspired to share her knowledge through her business Green Dreams Detroit. She hosts workshops, private consultations and eco-retreats; sharing the Pura Vida (Pure Life) lifestyle with others along their own path to health and wholeness. In this podcast we discuss green living in the home, healthy cooking, fermenting kombucha, kefir, vegetables and more! We also get into her personal life, the importance of relationships, the future of holistic health and the insurance model in our community, and we discuss her upcoming eco-retreat in Costa Rica.
Today’s WWRadio guest is not only a beyond talented fashion designer and textile artist, Michaela Ezra is an inspirational spiritual teacher. She is an an Australian native living in New York City and has worked with some of the biggest fashion brands in her career including Anthropoloogie, Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus and Saks. But what really inspires me about her is her deep sweet honesty and passion for not just her work, but her life. She's so in love with her friends (including her BFF Gabrielle Bernstein) ,family (makes a point to call them even though they're across the world), and her husband (who she calls her greatest teacher). Her love and passion for her life bursts out throughout our interview and I'm super grateful to have connected with her. I can't wait for you guys to hear our candid conversation on relationships, creativity, the direction of the fashion industry, the importance friendships, and her spiritual routine. You’ll love every minute of this episode, so turn up the volume and enjoy my fun chat with the beautiful Micaela Ezra. She is so sweet & just my style.
She is an author, coach and a student and teacher of A Course in Miracles. She shares her journey with such authentic honesty, love, and intention in today's deep conversation.
