Women of Faith in Leadership - Kingdom Leadership, Workplace Organisational culture, Christian women
I'll be honest — sometimes leadership feels like a never-ending tug-of-war. Between the meetings, the emails, the family dinners, and the ministry commitments… it can feel like there's never enough of you to go around. You love your work. You love your people. You love your family. But there are moments you quietly wonder, “Can I really do it all well?” In this week's episode, I'm sharing from my own experience of what it looks like to seek balance God's way — not the world's. Because true peace isn't found in getting everything done… it's found in walking closely with the One who holds it all together. We'll talk about: Why rest is not laziness but a form of worship How to release the guilt of not being able to do everything What it means to lead from a place of grace instead of exhaustion This is an episode for every woman who's ever felt stretched thin and secretly wondered if she's enough. Friend — you are. And God's grace is big enough to cover every season you're in. Reflection Questions Before you rush into the next thing, pause and sit with these questions: 1️⃣ What areas of your life feel “out of alignment” right now? 2️⃣ Where are you carrying pressure God never asked you to hold? 3️⃣ How can you intentionally rest in His presence this week — even for a few minutes a day? Something exciting is coming on October 23rd! Something exciting is coming on October 23rd — my birthday! If you want to be the first to hear about it, join my newsletter:

Summary: In this episode of the Customer Service Revolution podcast, Denise Thompson and John R. DiJulius III discuss the alarming trend of employees, particularly Gen Z, wanting to sever their work and personal lives. They explore the implications of this disconnect, the role of workplace culture in mental health, and strategies leaders can implement to foster a more supportive environment. The conversation emphasizes the importance of purpose in the workplace and how it can enhance employee satisfaction and productivity, ultimately benefiting the organization as a whole. Takeways: Nearly half of Gen Z workers prefer to separate work and personal life. A significant percentage of employees would consider extreme measures to disconnect from work stress. Workplace culture plays a crucial role in employee mental health. Leaders should create environments where employees feel whole and valued. Purpose in work is essential for employee satisfaction and retention. Effective communication and boundaries are vital for employee well-being. Employee experience directly impacts customer experience and satisfaction. Building trust and authenticity in the workplace fosters a positive culture. Rethinking the problem and our mindset from scratch when it comes to this whole life thing. What if the problem isn't your schedule—it's your metaphor? We've inherited a story about work and life as opposing forces, locked in eternal combat for our limited hours. This story feels true because everyone tells it. But stories shape reality. Consider this: your life contains multitudes. Work, yes. But also relationships, creativity, health, community, growth. None of these oppose each other inherently. A parent who calls their family "their life" earns respect. Someone who calls work "their life" earns concern. Same language. Different judgment. The opportunity lies in reimagining the entire framework—from balance to integration, from opposition to synergy. This episode explores: How the words we choose create the reality we experience Why integration creates compound satisfaction that balance never could The path from competing priorities to mutually reinforcing life architecture NEW SHOW - How to Change the World: The History and Future of Innovation Learn about the evolving story of the human species and our ideas told in chronological order. Most conversations about work-life balance start with the wrong question. We assume the goal is to limit work, to keep it from taking too much of our lives. So we optimize for time, energy, and boundaries, all while treating work as something to manage or escape. In this solo episode, Brandon challenges that premise. He steps back to ask a more fundamental question:What is work actually for?Brandon explores how work can serve as both a platform for growth and a vehicle for contribution. It's one of the few arenas where we can test our capabilities, develop judgment, and apply our gifts in ways that genuinely help others. He shares why fulfillment doesn't come from balance or hours worked, but from alignment — integrating work, family, and personal development into a single system aimed at growth, love, and service. This isn't a prescription. It's an exploration into what it means to live and work well. Why “work-life balance” starts from the wrong assumptionDefining the real problem: what role work plays in a life well livedHow work creates the feedback loops that drive capability and maturityThe connection between growth, love, and contributionHow alignment replaces balance as the goalWhy work is something to steward, not escape“Work isn't something to balance against life. It's one of the primary ways we learn how to live it.”If this episode sparks reflection — or disagreement — Brandon would love to hear from you.Reach out on LinkedIn or at buildingbetterpod.com.Building Better with Brandon Bartneck explores what it means to build. Ready to turn procrastination into productivity and make to-do lists work for you? Dr. Bradley Block and Dr. Russell Ramsay continue their discussion on time management for physicians. In part two, Dr. Ramsay explores forgiving procrastination through normalization, identifying progressivity (productive avoidance), and breaking tasks into small, actionable steps. He shares tips on using daily planners, keeping to-do lists manageable (2-5 items), and incorporating self-compassion to sustain motivation. While rooted in ADHD strategies, these insights help anyone in high-demand fields like medicine avoid overcommitment and build momentum. Tune in for practical advice on planners, task breakdown, and iterating for success—perfect for shifting work-life balance.Three Actionable Takeaway:Forgive and Normalize Procrastination – Recognize that relapse is 100%, and focus on understanding why it happens (e.g., lack of planning or overcommitment). Dr. Ramsay advises reframing through normalization and self-compassion: acknowledge slip-ups, identify specific causes, and get back on track without self-judgment to minimize future occurrences.Avoid Progressivity with Task Prioritization – Identify when you're doing lower-priority tasks (e.g., organizing files instead of charting) as avoidance. Dr. Ramsay suggests making priority tasks more appealing by focusing on hands-on starts, clear endpoints, and small steps—like mowing the lawn before taxes—to build momentum and prevent productive procrastination.Optimize To-Do Lists and Planners – Keep lists short (2-5 bite-sized items) and specific (e.g., "run errand" vs. vague goals). Dr. Ramsay recommends using planners for time-blocking, sequencing tasks logically, and iterating if needed; if a task lingers, break it down further into initial steps like "get to workstation" for sustained progress.About the Show:Succeed In Medicine covers patient interactions, burnout, career growth, personal finance, and more. In this solo conversation, I'm unpacking a mindset I've seen in so many high-achieving women (myself included): the belief that more success equals more sacrifice. And how that belief quietly holds us back from the very growth we crave — both at work and at home. You'll hear a real client story that shows how small shifts in strategy, delegation, and leadership can unlock massive transformation. We're talking about ditching the daily grind mindset, redefining what “balance” actually means, and owning your role as both a high-performer and a present parent. ✨ Here's what we'll cover: The fear that career growth will steal time from your family — and how to dismantle it A client story that shows what's possible when you stop trying to do it all What no one tells you about boundaries, delegation, and stepping into leadership How to challenge outdated beliefs about success and sacrifice What it looks like to design your next season of work with clarity, confidence, and control If you're ready to move forward without losing yourself in the process, let's get into it. Spring Flower: A Journey Through Generational Trauma, War, and Hope with Dr. Richard Perkins-HsungEpisode Description:In this profoundly moving episode of Linda's Corner: Inspiration for a Better Life, we sit down with Dr. Richard Perkins-Hsung—university professor, son of immigrants, and the devoted compiler of his late mother Jean's extraordinary memoir, Spring Flower. Together, we explore the deep impact of the immigrant experience and generational trauma, as seen through the lens of Jean's powerful life story.Jean was born into extreme poverty in China, where girls were considered worthless, and female infants were often abandoned. Her own mother endured the ancient, brutal custom of foot binding, breaking and reshaping feet to meet cultural ideals. As an infant, Jean survived one of the deadliest natural disasters of the 20th century when the Yangtze River flooded, killing millions through drowning, famine, and disease.Miraculously, Jean was adopted by compassionate American missionaries who devoted their lives to serving the Chinese people. From there, Jean's journey would span Japanese occupation during World War II, a fateful encounter with Mahatma Gandhi, the terror of the Communist Revolution, and a dramatic escape to the United States—all while leaving behind a husband and daughter.Through Jean's story, we see history come alive—her resilience, sacrifice, and determination shaped not only her son Richard's childhood but also the generational narrative passed down through trauma and healing. In this episode, you'll hear about:The devastating culture of gender inequality in early 20th-century ChinaJean's survival through the Yangtze River flood and WWIIHer inspiring American missionary adoptive parents and their humanitarian workLife under Mao's Communist Revolution and the personal cost of political upheavalJean's heartbreaking separation from her husband and daughterRichard's journey as an immigrant boy in America and how his mother's legacy shaped himThe importance of understanding ancestral stories to find personal healing and identityThe creation of Spring Flower, Jean's posthumous memoir, honoring her voice and lifeDr. Richard Perkins-Hsung offers deep insights into how historical trauma becomes generational, and how retelling these stories with compassion can become a tool for healing.Connect with Dr. Richard Perkins-Hsung:
Can physicians break the cycle of procrastination and reclaim their personal lives? Dr. Bradley Block and Dr. Russell Ramsay dive into practical approaches for managing time, tackling dreaded tasks like charting and difficult patient calls, and addressing perfectionism. Drawing from his expertise in adult ADHD, Dr. Ramsay discusses behavioral scripts, implementation intentions, and reframing tasks to build momentum and reduce avoidance. While emphasizing that these skills benefit everyone, he highlights the role of social capital, small actions for big gains, and tools like talk-to-text for efficiency. Tune in for insights on current challenges, actionable strategies, and how to stay motivated—part one of a two-part series.Three Actionable Takeaway: Behavioral Scripts for Task Initiation – Break down challenging tasks, like difficult patient phone calls, into clear roles and minimal actions (e.g., communicate key information). Dr. Ramsay explains this reduces avoidance by focusing on fulfilling your professional duty, similar to starting gym routines with small steps like wearing gym clothes.Combat Perfectionism with Good Enough Standards – Identify where perfectionism slows you down (e.g., over-editing notes or emails) and reframe to "fully competent" outcomes. Dr. Ramsay suggests using timers, word limits, or talk-to-text to draft quickly, and evaluating trade-offs like lost family time to incentivize efficiency.Build Momentum Through Small Actions – Use implementation intentions ("If X, then Y") and "touch the task" techniques to start admin work or self-care. Dr. Ramsay notes that small steps, like opening a chart or comparing colleagues' efficient notes, create inertia and help shift from "have to" to intentional productivity.About the Show:Succeed In Medicine covers patient interactions, burnout, career growth, personal finance, and more. Welcome back to Dial Emma! Each week, I'll be answering your dilemmas with honesty, empathy, and a few therapeutic truth bombs to help you make sense of life's stickiest moments. If you've ever wished you had a therapist in your back pocket, Dial Emma is here to help. This week, I'm tackling two dilemmas around work, identity, and balance. First, we hear from a new mum who wonders if it's selfish to leave a safe but uninspiring job in pursuit of a more fulfilling career, torn between the security her family needs and the desire to model courage and purpose for her daughter. Our second dilemma comes from a listener who has reduced their working hours to focus on health, wellbeing and sustainability long-term, but now faces judgment from colleagues who see part-time work as “slacking.”This episode explores guilt, fear, workplace culture, and the importance of aligning our choices with who we are becoming, not just who we've been.If you have a dilemma for Emma, please fill out this form. ---Dial Emma is hosted by Emma Reed Turrell, produced by Lauren Brook.---Social media:Emma Reed Turrell @emmareedturrellDial Emma @dialemmapodcastEmail: contact@dial-emma.uk
Hey mamas, Today we're flipping the script on one of the most overused (and misunderstood) phrases out there: work-life balance. For years, we've been told to picture balance like a scale… work on one side, life on the other, perfectly even. But here's the problem: that image sets us up for guilt, burnout, and disappointment. Because your job should never weigh the same as your entire life. In this episode, I share a fresh perspective I use with my coaching clients: balancing stones. Instead of a scale, picture those beautiful stacks of rocks you see at the beach or on a hike. Each stone is a different size and shape… some massive, some tiny. And yet, when carefully placed, they create something stable and beautiful. That's what balance actually looks like. Not equal weight, but intentional placement. What You'll Learn in This Episode: ✨ Why the traditional idea of work-life balance doesn't work (and what to do instead) ✨ How to identify your personal “stones”… the roles and values that matter most in your life ✨ Which stones belong at the foundation of your stack (hint: it's not work or house chores) ✨ Why health and self-care aren't selfish extras but essential stabilizers ✨ The small, everyday stones that bring the biggest joy and stability ✨ Three practical ways to keep your “stack” from wobbling or crashing down Episode Highlights: The Foundation Stone: Why family, health, and core values should anchor your life. The Big Stones: Work, marriage, spirituality, passions, and house maintenance… and how to keep them in their proper place. The Small Stones: Why little moments (like a walk, coffee with a teen, or a bedtime story) often bring the most stability. 3 Tips for Balance: Rebuild regularly, check your base, and accept the wobble. My Challenge for You: Grab a notebook and write down your stones. Which ones are the biggest? Which is your foundation? Where do you need to restack? Because balance isn't about perfection… it's about intention. And when you choose your stones with care, you can build a life that's stable, beautiful, and uniquely yours.
Boundaries aren't just good practice—they're essential for sustainable entrepreneurship and your mental wellbeing. Productivity specialist Amber De La Garza joins us for an eye-opening conversation about why so many business owners struggle with boundaries and how this impacts everything from client relationships to family dynamics.Ever find yourself frustrated when clients text at 9 PM? Or when team members ask questions they should know the answers to? These moments of tension often signal boundary issues that, left unaddressed, lead to burnout, resentment, and diminished joy in your entrepreneurial journey. Amber walks us through the three crucial steps of boundary setting: getting clear about what you need, communicating your expectations, and—most challenging—consistently maintaining those boundaries even when tested. What makes this conversation particularly valuable is Amber's insight into why women entrepreneurs often struggle more with boundaries than their male counterparts. From people-pleasing tendencies to confidence issues and societal conditioning, we explore the psychological underpinnings of boundary difficulties and provide practical frameworks for overcoming them. She shares powerful examples from her own experience, including how teaching boundaries to her teenage son mirrored the challenges business owners face with clients and team members. The practical tools discussed, from using your calendar more effectively to leveraging systems as boundary enforcement mechanisms, offer immediate paths to reclaiming your time and energy. As Amber explains, "Boundaries are like mindset—they're not something you can check off as done in business." They require ongoing attention and refinement as your business evolves.Whether you're feeling overwhelmed by 24/7 availability expectations or simply want to create more intentional work patterns, this episode provides the guidance you need to establish healthy boundaries that serve both you and your business. Ready to take back your time and rediscover the joy of entrepreneurship? This conversation is your starting point.Support the show
