When the set fell apart for an ambitious cinematic space opera that was produced on a characteristically small Turkish budget, nationally famed director Çetin İnanç had to think fast to save his film. What resulted was a domestic hit in 1982, originally called The Man Who Saves the World. Now known as Turkish Star Wars, it's a production regularly referenced as the worst movie ever made. Louis Harnett O'Meara uses an archival interview with İnanç, originally recorded by Turkish movie historian Ali Murat Güven in 2018, to tell the story of a classic in Turkish Copy Cinema - a genre that has faded since copyright laws in Turkey have become more rigorously applied. Presented by Louis Harnett O'Meara and produced by Hunter Charlton. An Ember production.Witness History is a short BBC World Service podcast about history that takes you inside big moments from the past through first-hand testimony and archive. Each weekday, in around nine minutes, we revisit one moment that helped shape the world and hear it through the voice of someone who was there. Scientists, artists, campaigners, soldiers, leaders and everyday people tell their true stories. When you subscribe to Witness History, you'll be taken inside turning points in world affairs from West Africa's fight back against Boko Haram in 2015 to the behind-closed-doors talks that led to the US-Cuba “thaw” and the surprise announcement of restored relations. You'll discover what it was like to experience disasters and how people recovered from them, including the Tabasco floods in Mexico, Portugal's worst train disaster, and the huge clean-up after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. You'll explore culture and ideas too: Sweden's Expedition Robinson, often credited as the first modern reality TV game show; the friendship between The Beatles' George Harrison and Indian sitarist Ravi Shankar; and the night a tiger attack brought Las Vegas superstars Siegfried and Roy's show to a sudden end. And if you're curious about inventions, we'll tell you how air fryers, BlackBerry, YouTube, Alexa, GPS, superglue, the shopping cart (shopping trolley) and bubble tea were created. If you're new to Witness History, the appeal is simple: real voices, one strong true story, and a fresh way to understand today through events from history – all in the time it takes to enjoy a cup of tea or a walk around the block. Join millions of BBC World Service podcast listeners around the globe and enjoy the insight, context and detail Witness History will bring you.(Photo: Turkish Star Wars movie poster. It is not merely the outwardly wicked who are saved by grace who should be amazed at their salvation. Every Christian, even those who lived a supposed moral life before salvation, should be amazed at God's grace. Salvation is entirely God's work. In the sermon on Ephesians 2:4 titled “‘But God:' The Christian Message to the World,” Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones examines Paul's introduction of the chief characteristics of the gospel. What makes the gospel good news? It is that in one's salvation, they become a new creature. Conversion is not merely something added to life, but rather a new realm of thinking. The dead have become alive. Dr. Lloyd-Jones remarks that Christ's redemptive work for such sinners seems impossible and yet it's true. He died for the dead so the dead may be made alive. God has done this to show His unmerited favor. His kindness and love are displayed through the salvation of wretched sinners. Come to Christ and discover the exceeding greatness of His power to all who believe. Through the gospel, God has found a way of liberating sinners from all their sin. The Christian, therefore, should be amazed that God would save a sinner such as themselves and not be ashamed because it is the power of God. After 10 years of motherhood, I'm really glad I did some things in those first few weeks, and plenty I'd do completely differently.Nothing can quite prepare you for becoming a mother. Those early weeks can be full of love and joy while also feeling exhausting, overwhelming and completely identity-shifting. I certainly wasn't prepared for the emotional whiplash of holding all of those feelings at once.In this special episode, created in partnership with Tesco Fred & Flo, I'm looking back at my first experience of new motherhood and sharing what I got right, what I learnt the hard way and what I wish I'd known before having a baby.We talk about setting boundaries with visitors (including my one rule that I still think was genius!), why new mothers need care rather than being expected to host, and the huge identity shift of matrescence that I knew absolutely nothing about when I had my first daughter.I also share how the mental load began creeping into my relationship almost without us noticing, and the practical change my husband, Guy, and I made to create a more equal division of parenting and household responsibilities. Plus, I share the newborn essentials I genuinely found useful, what I spent time and money on that I probably wouldn't again, and some very practical tips for making those sleep-deprived early weeks a little easier.Because when you're adjusting to life with a new baby, recovering from birth and trying to work out who you are now, the last thing you need is more pressure.

Dolly Parton: Garth Brooks' daughter made Dolly's death all about her. CNN had to apologize after eulogizing Dolly with an incorrect photo. Dolly's charting like crazy. She once did a duet with Pee Wee Herman. Barbara Walters hated Dolly. Howard 101 is now Andy Cohen 101 on SiriusXM. Stern apparently has an HBO deal. Drew breaks down the good and bad in the world today. Zohran Mamdani mourns a murderer. Lindsay Clancy fans are out of control. Karen Read fans have a new hero. 85-year-old Donna Mills is raking in the dough on OnlyFans. Meanwhile, Honey Boo Boo's fat sister is getting other gigs due to her OnlyFans earnings. The poor UK has to deal with her now and they're not happy about it. Fergie has weaseled her way back in the country under the cover of Harry and Meghan. What does “teach us to number our days” really mean?In today's Psalms Bible study, we have left the dark valley of Psalms Book 3 behind with its ruined sanctuary and promises that feel broken. In Book 4, Psalms 90-99 take us down the wilderness road, reminding us that God has always been our true home, long before any building existed. In this episode, we explore what it actually means to count our limited time on earth so we can live with real intention. As we trace the oldest song in the Bible back to Moses, we see how God holds us even when our entire world feels displaced. In our Psalms 90-99 Bible study, we cover:[8:36] Numbering Our Days: Why Moses asks God to teach us to weigh the worth of our fleeting moments so we can gain true wisdom.[13:29] The Noonday Demon: How ancient desert monks fought midday spiritual apathy (acedia) and why modern screen time leaves us vulnerable to the exact same attack.[15:28] Twisted Scripture: Why Satan intentionally omitted "in all your ways" when quoting Psalm 91 to Jesus, and how Jesus shut down the distortion.[24:38] The Lord Reigns: How the "enthronement psalms" pull our attention from failed human kings to an unshakable God who rules over all creation.[32:00] Joy to the World: Why Isaac Watts originally wrote his famous song "Joy to the World" about the Second Coming.Psalms Show NotesPsalms RoadmapPsalms Prayer ListPsalms Playlist on Apple MusicPsalms Playlist on SpotifyPhil Wickham - Psalm 8 (Hallé) [Official Music Video]ACTS Prayer GuideScene from The ChosenGroup Discussion Questions for Psalms 90-99[9:21] Moses prayed, "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." If you counted today as one of a limited number of days, what would you do differently?[14:23] In our modern times, the “noonday demon” comes at us not through desert heat but through electronics that pull us away from rest, leaving us tired and vulnerable to spiritual attack. What's one way you can fight the mindless scroll to protect yourself from the dangers of spiritual apathy?[16:04] Satan twisted God's promise of protection in Psalm 91 into an excuse to recklessly test God. In your own life, what is something good that Satan has tried to twist to tempt you?Contact Bible Book Club!Scripture quotations taken from The Holy Bible, New International Version®, NIV®. If you've been telling yourself you'll pitch the conference, keynote, or TEDx talk once you feel more confident, I want you to reconsider the order. Public speaking isn't something you do after you become confident. It's one of the ways confidence is created.I'm sharing three practical ways to build real speaking confidence: say yes and get the reps, experiment with different formats and time constraints, and use podcasting to strengthen your ability to speak naturally. I tell the story of walking into a TV studio for the first time with my heart pounding - and how becoming a regular political analyst years later finally gave me the repetition I needed to trust myself. And then there's the thing that surprised me most: taking an eight-week improv class. Even after decades of speaking, improv helped me get out of my head, into my body, and more comfortable not knowing exactly what would happen next.In this episode, you'll learn:Why confidence is created through speaking rather than perfected in privateWhat it means to embody your message instead of delivering it only from your headWhy repetition builds the muscle memory that makes speaking feel more naturalWhat my first TV political panel taught me about saying yes before I felt readyWhy relying on a script can interrupt your connection with the audienceHow PechaKucha, Ignite, DisruptHR, workshops, and keynotes develop different speaking skillsWhy hosting a podcast or becoming a regular podcast guest strengthens impromptu speakingWhat an eight-week improv class taught me about uncertainty and presenceHow speaking confidence can help you claim the identity of “speaker”Why women's public voices matter to gender equalityAbout Us: The Speaking Your Brand podcast is hosted by Carol Cox. At Speaking Your Brand, we help women entrepreneurs and professionals clarify their brand message and story, create their signature talks, and develop their thought leadership platforms. What if the reason you don't feel confident isn't that you lack ability, but because you've stopped noticing the evidence of how capable you really are?In this powerful Moment, Zoe is joined by confidence expert and UPFRONT founder Lauren Currie to explore why so many mothers struggle to recognise their value—and the simple weekly practice that can help rebuild confidence and quieten your inner critic.Lauren explains why confidence isn't something you either have or don't have. It's a skill that can be strengthened by gathering real evidence of your progress, achievements and abilities. This is known as the “progress principle”: recording the things you've done, learned and handled well so that self-doubt can't simply dismiss them. They also explore why this matters beyond paid work. Motherhood develops valuable skills, but mothers rarely receive recognition or positive feedback for them. By actively noticing how you have grown, from handling a difficult moment more calmly to managing situations that once overwhelmed you, you can begin to change the story you tell yourself about who you are and what you're capable of.Lauren also shares the simple ten-minute Friday ritual she uses to build confidence, recognise her progress and quieten the feeling that nothing she achieves is ever quite enough.

Linda Pastam wrote a marvelous poem called “Driving West” in which these lines appear:We are the pioneersof our own histories, drawnto the horizon as if it waited just for usthe way the young are drawnto the future, the old to the past.“…the way the young are drawn to the future, the old to the past.”I need you to hold those words tightly in your hands, even though they wriggle and thrash like slippery fishes anxious to escape your unfamiliar fingers and return to the quiet darkness where they can breathe water and feel entirely at home.Hold on to those words.Dr. Roger Sperry was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1981 for his documentation of the differences between the two hemispheres of our brains. One half of your brain puts you in touch with this Present Moment in this Real World. The other half puts you in touch with the Past and the Future in that mystical – magical – hallucinatory unreliable World of Imagination.Dr. Sperry discovered that what appears to a brain divided into two halves could more accurately be described as two separate, competing brains. In his Nobel Prize acceptance speech, Sperry said,“Each brain half appeared to have its own, largely separate, cognitive domain with its own private perceptual, learning and memory experiences, all of which were seemingly oblivious of corresponding events in the other hemisphere.”Dr. Sperry later said,“Each hemisphere of the brain is indeed a conscious system in its own right, perceiving, thinking, remembering, reasoning, willing, and emoting, all at a characteristically human level, and both the left and the right hemisphere may be conscious simultaneously in different, even in mutually conflicting, mental experiences that run along in parallel.”Regardless of which half you prefer, both halves are equally important. One half of your brain puts you in touch with This world. The other half puts you in touch with Possible worlds. One half puts you in touch with the sciences. The other half puts you in touch with the arts. Now let's get back to those wriggling fish that I asked you to hold. The Future to which the young are drawn, and the Past to which the old are attracted, are different time zones in the world of imagination. The young live in the brightness of the noonday sun. The old live in the twilight and remember the light of day. Most Americans attempt to persuade each other with facts. We do this because we trust Science and we worship Mathematics, and that is why we write such terrible ads. Most of us, most of the time, trust our instincts. We trust our intuitive hearts. This is what Nobel laureate Daniel Kahneman described as System 1 or “Thinking Fast” in his book, “Thinking Fast and Slow.”Behavioral scientists estimate that roughly 90% to 95% of our daily decisions are made automatically and unconsciously using System 1 thinking. Most people don't want to admit it.In fact, most people refuse to accept it.But the scientific truth is that we make at least nine-tenths our decisions in that half of the brain where the darkwater fish glimmer effortlessly and thoughtlessly, silver and gold in the moonlight.Study the arts. Learn to win the heart. If you win the heart, the mind will follow. The mind will always create logic to justify what the heart has already decided.Roy H.
