As our fourth season draws to a close, we've got an apocalyptic, 2-part ending lined up. That's right, we're talking Armageddon, and we don't mean the 1998 Bruce Willis blockbuster. And of course, if we're going to delve into the end of everything, Dr. Charles Liu and co-host Allen Liu are going to need the help of our ever popular archaeology expert and author, Hannah Liu, MEd. As always, though, we start off with the day's joyfully cool cosmic thing, the failed Soviet-era Kosmos 482 lander that was designed to withstand entry into the Venus atmosphere but never actually let Earth orbit and finally just came crashing back home on May 10, just a few days after we recorded this episode! Chuck, Allen and Hannah ponder the possibilities of cataclysmic destruction that the more than half-ton object could produce. Then, without missing a beat, Hannah takes us all the way back to Greek mythology and the Titanomachy, the legendary fights between the Gods and the Titans that were possibly inspired by catastrophic volcanic eruptions that laid waste to the ancient Mediterranean. Chuck jumps continents to discuss the Norse apocalypse known as Ragnarök – casually dropping that is inspired the massively popular Baldur's Gate 3 as he does. Not to be outdone, Hannah brings us all back to the original Armageddon itself: the final battle between good and evil that is foretold in the Book of Revelations to take place at Har Megiddo, the “Hill of Megiddo” in Hebrew. You'll also hear about where the word apocalypse comes from, and why it's become associated with the end of the world, as Hannah gives us all a quick lesson in eschatology, or the study of the end of the world. Our first question comes from Ahmed, who asks, “What are the odds that a killer asteroid will kill us all?” Allen gets a little excited about asteroid 2024 YR4, an asteroid the size of a 15-story building, that is predicted to pass safely by Earth in 2032 but at one point had as high a chance of hitting us as 4-5% – and still has about a 3% chance of hitting the Moon. Chuck explains that the odds of a true “dinosaur-killer” extinction event asteroid impact from an object at least a mile across is about 50 million to 1 in any given year. Hannah points out that it's far more likely that Mount Vesuvius, the volcano that inundated Pompeii, will erupt again. The last one was in 79AD, and since it tends to blow its top every 2,000 years or so, we're due. Moving back further, Hannah tells us about the Minoan Eruption that devastated the isle of Santorini in the Mediterranean, wiping out the city of Akrotiri, around 1600 BCE and was reported as far away as China. And that's just a few of the disastrous historic collapses Hannah shares with us, including the Hekla 3 eruption in Iceland that had may have had something to do with the Bronze Age Collapse. It turns out that the apocalypse is too big for a single episode! Join us in two weeks for Part 2 of our journey into all things apocalyptic. We hope you enjoy this episode of The LIUniverse, and, if you do, please support us on Patreon. On today's episode of Comic Stripped, Mark Radulich and Evan Bevins plug into the world of synthetic identity as they compare The Surrogates graphic novel by Robert Venditti and Brett Weldele to its 2009 film adaptation starring Bruce Willis. The original comic explores a near-future society where people live through robotic proxies, raising deep questions about identity, technology, and disconnection from humanity. The film, while keeping the core concept, leans more into action-thriller territory and streamlines the plot for mass appeal. Mark and Evan break down the major story and thematic differences, how the tone shifts from existential sci-fi to Hollywood blockbuster, and whether the adaptation honors or dilutes the source material. It's comics vs. cinema with big ideas, big changes, and big Bruce Willis energy.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

The Best Movie Plot Twists I came across an article that was discussing how a good movie will lead you down one path and then in a “Plot Twist” send you down a different and completely unexpected new path. That got me thinking about what were my most memorable plot twists from movies that I have watched over the years. I have come up with four that have stayed with me. What are your favorites? The Sixth Sense (1999) - The twist redefines the entire story, forcing viewers to rethink every scene. It's iconic for its emotional weight and subtle foreshadowing, often cited as the gold standard of plot twists. In this case you learn that Bruce Willis' character Malcolm Crowe was actually deceased. I hate to admit it but I never saw this coming. The Empire Strikes Back (1980) - The revelation Darth Vader is Luke's Father altered the saga's emotional core and is still one of the most quoted twists ever. Planet of the Apes (1968) - we are talking about the original here with Charlton Heston. The last scene leads up to the final payoff making it one of the most memorable twists in cinema. Se7en (1995) - The climax delivers a horrific surprise that ties the story's themes together. It's a twist that's both brutal and unforgettable, often debated for its boldness. The twist, John Doe played by Kevin Spacey manipulates Mills played by Brad Pitt emotionally to commit the seventh deadly sin. Braden's Pics: Usual Suspects Fight Club Shutter Island Memento

Although struck color blind by psychological trauma, Michaela gets all hot and bothered by The Color of Night (1994), our late entry into the 90s "erotic thriller" genre. A psychiatrist is murdered, and his psychologist buddy (Bruce Willis) tries to figure out which one of his group therapy patients did it, while becoming involved in a torrid affair with a mysterious femme fatale. Listen as we explore the origins of sexy movies and one that caused a heart attack on this week's exciting episode! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Join Scott K. and Mr. Smith on the 26th episode of Dropping a Bruce as they dissect Fortress (2021), a straight-to-video action thriller starring Bruce Willis, Chad Michael Murray, and Jesse Metcalf. In this B-movie gem, Willis plays a retired CIA operative holed up in a secret retirement bunker, but does he deliver or phone it in? We dive into the surprisingly fun performances, especially Chad Michael Murray's unhinged villain and Michael Sirow's Rambo-esque heroics, despite lackluster action and a nonsensical plot. Is this a cult classic or a forgettable flop? Tune in to find out! Follow the show on our socials: Facebook, Instagram & Twitter - @DroppingABruceEmail - DroppingABrucePod@gmail.com
GGACP celebrates the birthday of Emmy-winning director and producer Allan Arkush by revisiting this in-depth interview from 2018. In this episode, Allan entertains Gilbert and Frank with tales of working at the late, great Fillmore East, crossing paths with Ol' Blue Eyes (and Groucho!) apprenticing for the legendary Roger Corman and helming the cult classic “Rock ‘n' Roll High School.” Also, Jackie Mason fails to connect, Malcolm McDowell talks to his crotch, Bruce Willis locks horns with Cybill Shepherd and “A Hard Day's Night” changes Allan's life forever. PLUS: P.J. Soles! “The Girl Can't Help It”! In praise of Alexander & Karaszewski! Zacherle introduces the Grateful Dead! And Allan (reluctantly) remembers “Caddyshack 2”! Welcome back to the studio. This is My Day of Play, where you're taken into the real events and actions of how it happens long before the process of editing or cleaning up. The original purpose of these episodes was to give my broadcasting students something to edit, to practice with and to call their own. Then I realized that you are just as important. Share the reality of how it really went. We begin things with NewNations chief Washington anchor Leland Vittert. Then we're off to conversation with producer Rich Hull and U.S. Army chaplain Jeff Struecker from the documentary Fighting Spirit: A Combat Chaplain's Journey And we'll wrap things up with Alan Rudolph director of the newly restored version of Breakfast Of Champions starring a very young Bruce Willis. This is My Day of Play. Completely unedited in the way of meeting the wizard behind the curtain. Free preview cross-over with the Bang-Bang Podcast. Long before the Patriot Act, long before “See Something, Say Something,” long before 9/11—there was The Siege. Released in 1998, this Bruce Willis–Denzel Washington vehicle depicts a post–terror attack New York placed under martial law. The city is bombed, neighborhoods are surveilled, and Arab and Muslim men are rounded up en masse, held indefinitely in cages under the Brooklyn Bridge. And yet, in perhaps the most jarring twist of all, the whole thing was co-written by Lawrence Wright, the celebrated journalist behind the GWOT-era classic, The Looming Tower. In this episode, Van and Lyle are joined once again by screenwriter Kevin Fox to revisit The Siege, not just as an artifact of pre-9/11 paranoia, but as an uncanny rehearsal for everything that would come after. Together they break down the film's oscillation between prescience and myopia, from Bruce Willis as cartoonish generalissimo to Denzel Washington as constitutionalist good cop. The story's themes of blowback, anti-Muslim hysteria, and civil-military overreach may come off as heavy-handed or superficial, but there are so many moments that still hit disturbingly close to home.Van, Lyle, and Kevin ask: What can a work like The Siege tell us about liberal complicity in the War on Terror? What happens when a film simultaneously warns of repression while making its own contribution to the atmosphere of fear? And what's with the horny thermal cam surveillance scene?Subscribe to the Bang-Bang Podcast for more: https://www.bangbangpod.comSubscribe to the Un-Diplomatic Newsletter: https://www.un-diplomatic.comWatch the Un-Diplomatic Podcast on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@un-diplomaticpodcast
Skynet AI 2029: James Cameron's The Terminator If you grew up in the 1980s, you were living in a decade that would be controlled by raunchy teen sex comedies (Porky's, My Tutor, Private Lessons), John Hughes (The Breakfast Club, 16 Candles, Ferris Bueller's Day Off), and the emergence of straight to video. However there was one genre that stood above all others and would forever alter the output of Hollywood. Action films had always been a part of Hollywood, however the 1980s would unleash the talents of Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis, as well as lesser box office talents such as Steven Seagal, Jean Claude Van Damme, and the continuing presence of 70s holdover, Chuck Norris. One name would stand above all others, however. Inhabiting the title role of the 1984 B-Movie, Low-Budget Classic, The Terminator, Director James Cameron would establish Austrian-born, seven-time Mr. Olympia Arnold Schwarzenegger, as - possibly - the greatest Action-Star to ever grace the Big Screen. The Terminator would change cinema and introduce both actor and director as formidable and genre defining talents. This week Mr. Chavez & I dive into the world of Artificial Intelligence and discuss one of the greatest Science Fiction films ever made. What are the lessons we should have learned from Cameron's film? What did we miss? How far away are we from Skynet becoming self-aware? There's a whole lot to unpack and we're diving right into all of it. This was an exciting and wonderfully joyous trip back to the 80s and a film that greatly defined both our youths, the decade, and the evolving world of Cinema.
