Jon Summers is the Motoring Historian. He was a company car thrashing technology sales rep that turned into a fairly inept sports bike rider. On his show he gets together with various co-hosts to talk about new and old cars, driving, motorbikes, motor racing, motoring travel. John discusses his experiences at two recent presentations on the future of automobility. The first presentation by McKinsey focused on the concept of a 'software-defined vehicle' (SDV) - likening modern vehicles to connected devices similar to smartphones, and outlining six key areas for achieving success in this domain. These areas included hardware simplification, increased collaboration among manufacturers, leveraging cloud infrastructure, and shifting the focus from traditional engineering to software-driven engineering. The second presentation by a company called Aicas emphasized AI's role in achieving interoperability and managing data within the intelligent vehicle edge, highlighting the importance of selectively recording useful data to avoid latency issues. Both presentations indicate an automotive industry pivoting towards making money from data rather than traditional car components and underscore the industry-wide challenge of securing and managing this data. ==================== Down the road waits misery ... On his show he gets together with various co-hosts to talk about new and old cars, driving, motorbikes, motor racing, motoring travel. In this episode, Jon provides his insights on the latest vehicles in the 'Best of the Bay' road test series. He discusses and compares three standout cars: the 2025 Toyota Camry XSE, the full-size Range Rover, and the Lucid. The Camry is highlighted for its exceptional combination of performance and value, with characteristics comparable to a Lexus. The Range Rover impresses with its luxurious leather interior and commanding presence, though it is costly. The Lucid, despite being the most technologically advanced car tested and priced at double the Camry, stands out for its futuristic design and performance, making an impression on both Jon and a passerby during the review. John concludes with endorsements for the vehicles based on different consumer preferences. ==================== The Donnas - Take It Off “Camry Gonna Camry” - a bit better than you expect, in every respect: price, performance, look and feel inside and outside Full Fat Range Rover; the double whammy of the look and smell of the leather so memorable. Jon Summers is the Motoring Historian. He was a company car thrashing technology sales rep that turned into a fairly inept sports bike rider. On his show he gets together with various co-hosts to talk about new and old cars, driving, motorbikes, motor racing, motoring travel. Jon narrates his unexpected journey of purchasing a 2016 Toyota Tundra Limited. Despite his longstanding preference for Rams with high performance engines, he opted for a Tundra for its practicality, reliability, and suitability for California's lifestyle. Jon recounts his experiences with various trucks, emphasizing the appeal of the Tundra's build quality and its suitability for both daily driving and towing. He also shares anecdotes from his visits to dealerships and the Toyota factory, highlighting cultural and historical aspects of Toyota's manufacturing. The chance gift of a small magazine archive to the Society of Automotive Historians (SAH) led Jon Summers to research midget and sprint car racing during the immediate postwar period around his adopted home of the San Francisco Bay Area. This grassroots history charts the rise of great names in racing, such as Kurtis and Vukovich, yet was over in under a decade. Less than a century later no trace of the tracks remain. Summers' presentation offers a glimpse into this already-lost world. This episode is part of our HISTORY OF MOTORSPORTS SERIES and is sponsored in part by: The International Motor Racing Research Center (IMRRC), The Society of Automotive Historians (SAH), The Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Argetsinger Family - and was recorded in front of a live studio audience. ===== (Oo---x---oO) ===== The Motoring Podcast Network : Years of racing, wrenching and Motorsports experience brings together a top notch collection of knowledge, stories and information. #everyonehasastory #gtmbreakfix - motoringpodcast.net More Information: https://www.motoringpodcast.net/ Become a VIP at: https://www.patreon.com/ Online Magazine: https://www.gtmotorsports.org/

On his show, he gets together with various co-hosts to talk about new and old cars, driving, motorbikes, motor racing, and motoring travel. On this special bonus episode of The Motoring Historian, Jon is accompanied by William Ross from The Ferrari Marketplace Podcast and Crew Chief Eric from Break/Fix Podcast to discuss the history of the Mille Miglia; however, as conversations tend to go, they went a bit far afield talking about stories involving Enzo, Ferrucio, Ferdinand and other famous automotive characters of the period. Jon and Laura Summers learned through experience that infertility affects all areas of life. After having testicular cancer, Jon believed he could never have biological children. In today's episode, I interview Jon as he shares their story on how they embarked on a fertility journey that included 15 IVF egg retrieval cycles, 2 sperm retrieval surgeries, and thousands of injections. Using love and humor, Jon and Laura got through their infertility experience together. Infertility is a team sport. Yet, for many, the focus is on the woman. Not only in regards to preconception health, testing, treatment and diagnosis, but also around emotional health and support. Jon Summers is leading the charge when it comes to opening up this conversation around infertility for men. Just like women, men can experience a fertility diagnosis. And just like women, that diagnosis brings it uncertainty, fear, guilt and all sorts of emotional turbulence. Many men feel negative emotions as they watch their partners suffer, both with the burden of fertility treatment and also the pain that they may feel for their missing baby. After surviving testicular cancer, Jon and his partner Laura went through 15 IVF cycles, 2 sperm retrieval surgeries and thousands of injections. They discovered that infertility is a marathon that requires strength and resilience. Jon's pragmatic yet jovial approach to the challenge of infertility helps to ease a bit of the burden, especially for men. In this episode, Jon shares his personal infertility journey, what he has learned along the way (and the mistakes he'd like to help you avoid!) as well as his tips and advice for navigating the journey through infertility. Jon and his wife Laura have recently released their book A Man's Guide to Infertility, which I had the pleasure of contributing to as part of their panel of world-renowned fertility experts. Today, we have episode 30 with Infertility Man Jon Summers. I first heard about Jon after I saw a repost talking about male factor infertility. He was a voice for those who were male and going through infertility. It got me thinking that I had not covered any topics on male factor infertility and I had not had many male voices speaking about their experiences with infertility. So, I reached out to Jon. Jon was so kind to respond quickly and even though he's in Australia, we were able to make the time work out. If you think today's episode is just for the males in your life, you're wrong. He talks about adversity, relationships, the struggle of a cancer diagnosis, the struggle of infertility, and how to talk about it. It really is a great episode for both men and women to listen too. If you found value in this episode, I'd love a 5 star review or a written review to help get this into more ears. If you have a suggestion for future episodes, reach out to me on Instagram at 40 and Infertile. Thank you for being here! Let's do this! And before you ask, not only did I have Jon's consent to go with that title but he used the term in our conversation. He threw himself under the one-nut bus. Classic. Jon Summers is leading the charge when it comes to opening up the conversation around infertility for men. Just like women, men can experience a fertility diagnosis. And just like women, that diagnosis brings it uncertainty, fear, guilt and all sorts of emotional turbulence. Gonna be honest, this topic isn't really my area of expertise (at all) and it's fair to say that Jon had his work cut out getting me up to speed. I loved his laid-back, self-aware, no-ego communication style and his ability to make this a fun and fascinating chat. Enjoy. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It is a time of great difficulty and change in Pakistan. The country is dealing with an insurgency that is putting significant pressure on the military, police, government, and citizens. Terrorist threats and attacks are on the increase. People are being displaced in significant numbers. The country faces profound economic challenges. As Pakistan military steps up an offensive against the Taliban, what is the true state of affairs within Pakistan? In tribal regions, how does the development of civil society, the judicial system, and local governance differ from the rest of the country? And, how has recent fighting in the Northwest Frontier Province and the tribal belt near the Afghan border impacted the region’s inhabitants? Dr. Jon Summers, an Asia Foundation expert based in Islamabad until last month, and in Kabul, prior to that, joins the Council to discuss the current situation in Pakistan.
