In this episode, we dive into the complex and painful experience of betrayal. Drawing inspiration from Mel Robbins' podcast on the subject, we explore different perspectives on betrayal, its impact, and ways to overcome its painful consequences.  Highlights:  Understanding Betrayal: Betrayal is a shattering of trust, often by those closest to us like family, partners, or colleagues. It involves breaking spoken or unspoken rules, leading to trauma and a sense of deep betrayal.  Key Insights from Mel Robbins' Episode:    Betrayal is not about the victim but reflects the betrayer's issues.  It's essential to not take betrayal personally, understanding it as a form of avoidance or escape by the betrayer.  Confronting betrayal opens opportunities for growth and understanding.    Dr. Debi's additional insights:    Window of Willingness - A Framework to see if it's safe and in your best interest to heal and rebuild or heal and move on:  Level 1: Full responsibility and remorse by the betrayer.  Level 2: Excuses made by the betrayer.  Level 3: Blame shifting to the victim.  Level 4: Complete denial and refusal of responsibility.    Moving Through the Stages of Betrayal:  Shock and devastation leading to a shattered worldview.  The danger of getting stuck in stage three - "I'm fine" stage, leading to chronic symptoms.  Transitioning to stage four, focusing on personal healing and growth.    Healing Strategies:  Recognizing the need to rebuild trust and integrity after betrayal.  Evaluating when and how to rebuild a relationship.  Understanding the transformative potential of confronting and moving past betrayal.    Personal Stories and Examples:  Insights from members of the PBT Institute and personal experiences with betrayal.  Discussion on how betrayal can lead to personal transformation and new beginnings.    This episode emphasizes that while betrayal is incredibly painful, it also presents an opportunity for profound personal growth and transformation. By confronting and understanding betrayal, individuals can emerge stronger, more resilient, and more self-aware.  Links:  https://thepbtinstitute.com

It's kind of, turn on the camera. This is it. You better be good. Steven Jack Butala: Why, Jill? Why are we not so professional? Jill K DeWit: Why are we not so professional? Steven Jack Butala: Because we're here to buy and sell land. Jill K DeWit: That's true. Steven Jack Butala: We're here to get rich. And create wealth for ourselves. In this episode we introduce an existential exercise called "Moving Through the Ages". The exercise is a deep, reflective journey through one's life stages, aiming to bring about self-understanding and awareness. It starts from the participant's birth, moving through childhood, adolescence, and adulthood, and even projects into future ages the participant has yet to experience. Don't overthink the exercise but focus on the exploration, experiencing each stage of life through memory or imagination. Emphasize being in the moment, being open and curious, letting go of control, and being present. The goal is to reveal more about oneself, to understand oneself better, and to clarify one's desires in life. How exactly do you stop doing something you've committed so much time, mental energy, and heart to, for so many years? Do you shut it down completely? Can some parts of it remain while others are shelved indefinitely, maybe forever? Is it possible this beloved endeavor can be re-worked, re-born into something similar yet different and new … and hopefully altogether better?  Or are fresh slates and starts the better answer? These are the questions Heather Durocher, founder of Michigan Runner Girl, has been grappling with in recent time. She has some answers and shares from her heart in this latest—and final—episode of the Michigan Runner Girl podcast, a show she launched in the summer of 2015.  What's next for Michigan Runner Girl? Heather explains more on this, while also acknowledging she's still figuring things out as she explores a new path forward for MichiganRunnerGirl.com and the amazing Michigan Runner Girl community. Some things are changing (the podcast), some aren't (the website remains live and isn't going anywhere!), and some things are to be determined. Isn't this how life can be, after all? It's all a work in progress and an evolution — an evolution Heather is leaning into and even embracing. There are good things happening — and coming down the line! Heather invites listeners to keep on moving AND to join a new community she's created and has been building for the past few months: Moving Through, a community, newsletter, and podcast on Substack.

Betrayal is a form of trauma. Like any trauma, it impacts our health. But there are elements of betrayal that make it unique. I'm joined by Dr. Debi Silber to talk about what she learned about Post-Betrayal Syndrome from her own experiences and research.   The five stages from betrayal to breakthrough are: Neglected emotions/intuition Shock The emergence of survival instincts Adjusting to a new normal Healing, rebirth, and a new worldview   About Dr. Debi Silber Dr. Debi Silber is the founder of the Post Betrayal Transformation Institute. She is a holistic psychologist, health, mindset, and personal development expert, the author of the #1 bestselling book: The Unshakable Woman: 4 Steps to Rebuilding Your Body, Mind, and Life After a Life Crisis, and her newest book: Trust Again: Overcoming Betrayal and Regaining Health, Confidence, and Happiness. Her recent Ph.D. study on how we experience betrayal made three groundbreaking discoveries that change how long it takes to heal. In addition to being on FOX, CBS, The Dr. Oz Show, TEDx (twice), and more, she's an award-winning speaker, coach, and author dedicated to helping people move past their betrayals as well as any other blocks preventing them from the health, work, relationships, confidence and happiness they want most.   How Our Bodies and Minds Hold on to Betrayal When faced with a betrayal, many people find themselves in one of three groups. There are those who try to avoid their feelings through numbing or distractions. Others deny the experience altogether. In the third group are people whose betrayer faces no consequences at all.  Debi explains how people in these groups often experience a further deterioration of relationships as well as illness. Physical, mental, and emotional issues are common elements of post-betrayal syndrome. Debi shares how this will go unresolved until we face the root cause head-on. In her research, Debi has seen the impact of unresolved betrayal. Many people experience gut issues, energy deficits, and weight fluctuations. They may also experience overwhelm, anxiety, shock, and an inability to concentrate. When these combine, it's no wonder that betrayal has long-lasting effects.   Moving Through the Stages of Betrayal Through her extensive research, Debi identified the stages of betrayal and how people move beyond it. It often starts with neglected emotions and ignored intuition.  People then experience shock. When betrayal is discovered, our worldview is shattered, and mental, emotional, and physical health suffers as a result. This is followed by the emergence of survival instincts. However, many get stuck in this stage and fail to heal fully.  They then adjust to a new normal and establish new boundaries. This is when we leave behind what wasn't serving us and seek out new comforts. Healing doesn't really come until the final stage - developing a new worldview. This occurs when we move past surviving and construct new rules and viewpoints based on the entire experience. Have you experienced a betrayal that still affects you? What new boundaries and worldview has emerged from it? Leave a comment on the episode page! Call the Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic today and schedule your first appointment at 319-363-0033.   Quotes “Because it feels so intentional, we take it so personally. The entire self needs to be rebuilt. Rejection, abandonment, confidence, worthiness, belonging, trust - they're shattered.” [8:28] “We've been taught time heals all wounds. I have the proof that's not true.”[9:47] “I'm not saying that betrayal was our fault. What I've come to learn is it really is our opportunity.” [23:38] “Transformation begins when you tell yourself the truth.” [34:42]   In This Episode What led Debi to research betrayal [1:40] What betrayal actually is and how it impacts our health [6:20] Moving beyond betrayal to begin healing [12:30] How to know if you have post-betrayal syndrome [22:00] How transformation can occur after a betrayal [25:50] Identifying if you are numbing rather than healing [33:20]   Links & Resources The Magnificence of Magnesium Get 10% off Magnesium Chelate: Magnesium Post-Betrayal Transformation Institute TEDx: "Do you have Post Betrayal Syndrome?” Take the PBT Institute Quiz Trust Again: Overcoming Betrayal and Regaining Health, Confidence, and Happiness The Unshakable Woman: 4 Steps to Rebuilding Your Body, Mind, and Life After a Life Crisis Find Your Longevity Blueprint Online Follow Your Longevity Blueprint on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube | LinkedIn Get your copy of the Your Longevity Blueprint book and claim your bonuses here Find Dr. Stephanie Gray and Your Longevity Blueprint online    Follow Dr. Stephanie Gray on Facebook | Instagram | Youtube | Twitter | LinkedIn Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic Podcast Production by the team at Counterweight Creative    Related Episodes Episode 63: Childhood Trauma and Healing Episode 21: How Trauma Affects Your Health

116: Is It Time for a Capital Campaign? (Cindy Clark)SUMMARYAs we move through the pandemic, numerous factors are influencing nonprofit leaders to consider whether now is the time to launch a capital campaign.  Pent up demand, relatively good economic conditions, competition from other nonprofits - and just a restlessness from staff and board - may all be pushing you to what feels like an inevitable fundraising effort.  But are you and your nonprofit really ready?  My colleague Cindy Clark is the perfect one to answer this question, and she and I discuss five keys to evaluating campaign readiness in episode #116 of the Path Podcast.  Cindy has nearly four decades of experience running campaigns and consulting nonprofit leaders on their campaign readiness, and she can help you understand the key elements necessary to assure campaign success. ABOUT CINDYCindy Clark joined the PMA team with more than 35 years of experience in nonprofit leadership, strategic planning, management, development, and marketing. Her background includes work in healthcare, higher education, and the independent school sectors. Most recently, Cindy served for nine years as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and Vice President for Development with Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region, where she managed a successful $10 million capital campaign to build Levine & Dickson Hospice House. On his first visit to the Path (episode #32), Michael raised important questions - and offered key insight - on the role of philanthropy as nonprofit leaders grappled with a global pandemic in April of 2020.  A year later on episode #99, he continues to address many of the important questions that remain, and shares more about the specific programs the Foundation For The Carolinas and its funders are bringing to the communities it serves.  In addition to the organizational leadership the FFTC provides, Michael sheds light on his personal leadership style and how the last year has affected his approach to strategy, team building and lifelong learning.ABOUT MICHAELMichael Marsicano is President and CEO of Foundation For The Carolinas, the community foundation serving Charlotte and the surrounding 13-county region. The Foundation leads a variety of civic leadership initiatives in areas such as affordable housing, economic opportunity, public school reform, the arts and the environment.  Since Dr. Marsicano joined the Foundation in 1999 its assets have grown from $245 million to now more than $2.6 billion. During that time, FFTC rose from the 35th largest community foundation in the U.S. to currently the 6th largest, and now manages nearly 3,000 charitable funds. During his tenure, contributions to FFTC-held funds have exceeded $4 billion and grant awards to nonprofits total more than $2.8 billion. Dr. Marsicano joined FFTC after serving as President and CEO of the Arts & Science Council in Charlotte for 10 years. During his tenure, the United Arts Fund moved to the nation’s highest in per capita in annual giving and became one of the largest endowed arts councils in the U.S.  A native of New York, Dr. Marsicano received his Bachelor of Science, Master of Education and Doctor of Philosophy from Duke University. As the southeastern United States makes preparations for the arrival and impact of hurricane Dorian, so can we make preparations for the storms we may encounter in our lives . I am speaking of  the storms of conditions and circumstances that we encounter from time to time.  Storms that seem to surround us and affect us mentally, emotionally, physically and even spiritually. It could be in relationships, in our jobs, our families, the experiences of loss and grief or any other conditions that move us to worry, doubt and fear.  They do feel like we’re standing right under those dark clouds that just don’t seem to be moving. Knowing storms come and go in our lives, we can intentionally prepare for all the storms we experience by shifting our perspective. Napoleon Hill said, “Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit.” Knowing storms come and go, knowing we have moved through them before and survived, gives us the faith and strength needed to move through next one that comes. We carry wisdom gained as a benefit of each prior storm and use that wisdom to successfully navigate through the next one. Listen in to today’s episode as I  take this a little deeper. Wishing you peace, calm and safety whether you’re dealing with stormy weather on the outside or inside… Dr. Koz (and effect!) Dr. Stephen J. The Better Leaders Better Schools Podcast with Daniel Bauer

Welcome to the Better Leaders Better Schools podcast.  This is a weekly show for ruckus makers -- What is a ruckus maker?  A leader who has found freedom from the status quo. A leader looking to escape the old routine. A leader who never, ever gives up. Up next you can hear Daniel Bauer’s interview with Dan Pink. In today’s conversation he speaks with NY Times BestSelling Author Daniel Pink and discusses his new book: When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing. We hope you enjoy the podcast. All the highlights, resources, and next steps can be found below. Listen to the full episode here and learn more at betterleadersbetterschools.com   Getting to know Dan Pink Daniel H. Pink is the author of six provocative books — including his newest, When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing, which spent four months on the New York Times bestseller list and was named a best book of 2018 by Amazon, iBooks, Goodreads, and several more outlets. His other books include the long-running New York Times bestseller A Whole New Mind and the #1 New York Times bestsellers Drive and To Sell is Human. His books have won multiple awards and have been translated into 39 languages. He lives in Washington, DC with his family.   Why When Dan wrote his latest book When to distinguish between the times when he should be doing certain things to ensure that they were done.  He was making decisions haphazardly and looked for guidance which did not exist at the time. Dan started researching timing and discovered that there is an abundance of research around timing in a multitude of disciplines.  They all shared a commonality and Dan focused on that part of the research. “How does the rhythm of the day affect how we feel, how we perform, how do new beginnings affect us, how do midpoints affect us and shape our behavior, what do ending do for us and how do groups synchronize time.” - Dan Pink   Moving Through the Day Dan explains that we tend to move through the day in three stages.  We begin with peak then move to trough then recover. Most of us move through the day in this order with the exception of night owls.  They do not and are much more complicated. 20% of the population has an evening chronotype causing them to naturally stay up late and wake up late.  Peak is in the morning, trough is in the afternoon and recover is in the evening. Peak is the time of the day where we should be doing our analytical work. “Trough is a very bad time of day for most people.  This is when you should do your administrative work.” - Dan Pink   Impact Dan wrote this book because he wanted to read it.  There was nothing else out there like this and it impacted how he arranged his daily schedule.  He was glad that he wrote it because he learned a lot, it had the most impact in his day to day life, and it changed how he does things. “I think I have written six books and of the six books I have written this one has probably had the most impact on my day to day life.” - Dan Pink   Leveraging the Power of Endings Dan explains that endings have multiple effects on our behavior.  One of those is that it energizes us when we see the end in sight so we kick a bit harder.  Endings help us encode experiences, which is they play a disproportionate role in how we remember and evaluate entire experiences.  Some endings are meaning makers and that means that we may not get to the end of something so we start searching for a rise in sequences instead of a decline. “Interim deadlines can be effective for students with long term projects will help the students move a little bit faster.” - Dan Pink   Dan Pink Resources: When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing by Daniel H. They find their slide and insert a picture of somewhere they’ve always wanted to visit.  You can put a text box to explain why. You give the group about 3-4 minutes to complete and then you discuss each person’s slide. It’s a great way to get to know people on a different level.  Excellent PD activity or an activity to do with your students.   Download resource: https://www.betterleadersbetterschools.com/ Read the Better Leaders Better Schools Roadmap   Show Some Love BECOME A PATRON OF THE SHOW FOR AS LITTLE AS $1/MONTH DID YOU LIKE THE SHOW?  iTunes SUBSCRIBE HERE!
