Much like photos, songs enable us to relive the most special moments of our lives. Thumbing through the pages of a scrapbook or scrolling through your phone resemblesdropping the needle on your favorite record or scouring a playlist. In similar fashion,Vacation Manor crystallize those moments and memories in the echoes of shimmering guitars, glistening keys, upbeat sunny grooves, and iridescent melodies. On their 2021 self-titled full-length debut, Vacation Manor [Nettwerk], the Virginia duo—Nathan Towles [vocals, guitar] and Cole Young [drums]—stitch together shared and personal experiences in a patchwork of vibrant and vivid alternative anthems.Vacation Manor continue to sail those lifeboats back and forth. In 2016, they introduced themselves via the debut Girl, Say EP followed by Everything I Can't Say Out Loud two years later. Racking up over 60 million streams, they continued to entrance and engage listeners. During 2020, they teased out the album with the Thoughts In Progress, Pt. 1 EP—comprising four songs from the upcoming full-length. Garnering critical acclaim, Atwood Magazine applauded it as “another installment of what Vacation Manor does best – creating songs laden with earworm lyrics and bright sounds.” Over the past two years, they carefully architected this body of work. Vacation Manor retreated to Joshua Tree to record with producer Charlie Stavish before making intermittent trips back and forth to Nashville from February 2020 through September 2020 where they worked with Kyle Cummings.“All of these places and people gave the album different vibes,” Cole goes on. “It made it feel interesting, because there were a lot of peaks and valleys. Nathan and I had been quarantining together in Virginia, because we lived one street away from each other at the time. We would drive to Nashville, go to the studio, and head back to our hotel room. The Pandemic made everything a lot more intense. The good thing was there were no distractions.”The album culminates on the introspective melodic bliss of “Ending Credits.” The guitar glows in the background as the vocals reflect the warmth of Nathan's delivery before he offers a fitting conclusion to this trip. “I was trying to write something that wasn't too directly about quarantine,” he says. “It was hard to avoid, because you can't really go anywhere, and everything felt heavier all the time. I live on a street where there are always people running by because there's an old college on the other side. It was weird for it to be springtime and not see anyone. There was a strange darkness to the moment, but the song has a sad sense of hope.” “It's a song you might listen to when you're walking home alone from a bar at the end of the night,” adds Cole. “‘Ending Credits' is really about missing normalcy. There are so many feelings inside of it.”In the end, all of those feelings make Vacation Manor worth revisiting—much like your favorite photo album. “If you listen to the whole record, I hope it's like watching a movie you relate to,” Cole leaves off. “Even though we've been a band for so long, it encompasses our personal tastes and experiences.” “It's a culmination of the last seven years, because we started as a garage band and ended up making a record we're really proud of,” Nathan agrees. “Every part of our collective personality was represented. I'm excited to relive all of the things that led us to make this. It's Vacation Manor.” Thanks for listening!!! "Older adults have this special clarity about who they are and what they want, which is incredibly inspiring," says Dr. Julia Hiner, explaining, in part, why she loves her work as a geriatrician in Houston, Texas. She also enjoys the challenge of the medical complexity these patients present and the opportunity it creates to see the patient as a whole person. In fact, as you'll hear in this upbeat conversation with Raise the Line host Lindsey Smith, there's almost nothing about geriatrics that Dr. Hiner does not enjoy, which explains her passion for teaching the subject at McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston and trying to convince more students to pursue it as their specialty.  The need is great, given that there are only 8,000 geriatricians in the US despite a rapidly growing senior population. Tune in to learn why Dr. Hiner thinks clinicians avoid the field and the steps that can be taken to improve the situation, including requiring courses in geriatrics. You'll also learn about the importance of capacity assessments, the troubling, and under-reported, problem of elder mistreatment, ageism among health professionals and much more in this super informative episode. Mentioned in this episode:University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston McGovern Medical School  If you like this podcast, please share it on your social channels. Today, we're looking at a Toronto judge's decision to allow a class-action lawsuit against the Freedom Convoy to proceed in Ottawa after defendants argued it would not be possible to have a fair hearing in the nation's capital. Plus, the Liberals have laid out their plans for Canada's economy — which includes having one in four workers be immigrants or refugees as the country continues to outpace past precedent. And finally, Prime Minister Mark Carney says Canada will meet NATO's new 5% spending commitment, claiming the country will up defence spending through its new partnership with the European Union and by upgrading defence-related infrastructure. Questions remain, however, after Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand said the timeline to do so isn't yet entirely clear. Special Guest: Lise Merle.

What happens when economic chaos hits, but you're financially trapped by your own "responsible" planning? Victor lost his first business in 2008 because he had $2 million in net worth but couldn't access cash when he needed it most. When he rebuilt, he did something different. During the pandemic, when competitors were closing or taking on crushing debt, Victor was buying equipment at liquidation prices, forward-purchasing inventory before price spikes, and hiring top talent from failing businesses. In this episode, we explore how "playing it safe" with traditional financial planning can actually make your business more vulnerable during economic turbulence, and reveal the strategy that helped business owners not just survive but strategically thrive during some of the most uncertain economic times in a generation. Key Quote: "Everyone was playing defense, just trying to survive. Because of our financial position, we could play offense when nobody else could." What You'll Discover: How a salon owner lost two locations despite doing "everything the financial experts told me to do" (and what her competitor did differently to expand instead) The food distributor who used inflation as a competitive advantage while others got crushed by rising costs Why the fitness center owner with $500K in retirement accounts had to watch once-in-a-lifetime opportunities pass by How accessible capital creates strategic opportunism with reduced risk during economic volatility The 7 financial levers that separate businesses that merely survive from those that capture market share during downturns Perfect for: Business owners who want to build long-term wealth without being financially handcuffed when economic opportunities or challenges arise. Listen now to discover how to create certainty during uncertain times through financial preparation, not economic prediction. Ready to recession-proof your business? But after working for the New York State Department of Health during the COVID pandemic, he wanted something new. So in 2023, Adam moved from responding to a public health emergency to responding to the climate emergency, in addition to other hazards utilities have dealt with for decades. Just two years into his role as director of emergency services for the energy services company Avangrid, he's already seen a number of back-to-back emergencies caused by everything from winter storms to gas leaks. This week on With Great Power, Adam shares with Brad some of the ways that Avangrid's emergency response operations are evolving as intense weather and other hazards put more physical and mental stress on first responders. They also discuss why  meteorologists play an increasingly vital role in utility emergency response, and how utilities are integrating new threats, like wildfires in the Northeast, into their planning. With Great Power is a co-production of GridX and Latitude Studios.  Subscribe on Apple, Spotify, or anywhere you get podcasts. Today on the podcast is Jack Meier!Jack just finished his freshman year at the University of Oregon, where he chose to redshirt. Despite the limited racing schedule, Jack still ran 3rd place at 2025 U20 XC in Lubbock, Texas this past winter. Jack is a former 6A XC State Champion in Oregon, an NXN qualifier, and 2x NON All-American. He holds PRs of:5k: 14:353k: 8:191500: 3:555k XC: 14:46Jack has had a rollercoaster running career, finding his beginnings during his freshman year of high school during the COVID-19 Pandemic. By his senior year, he pulled off a walk-off win at the XC state meet, and snagged at spot to run at Nike Cross Nationals. However, his high school career did not end in glory. Over the winter going into his senior track season, Jack felt the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. He committed to run at the University of Oregon, the school he had worked for since he was a little kid. Just weeks later, unfortunately, he sustained a season-altering groin injury that sidelined him for weeks. Despite valiant efforts at a comeback, Jack failed to become an Oregon state champion in track, his ultimate goal since finishing 2nd the year prior. Opening up about his journey on his show, Jack shares the valuable insights and lessons that he has learned in his running journey so far, from both the setbacks and the successes. He also shares what it's like transitioning from high school to the collegiate level and what he is looking forward to in the years ahead. Overall, Jack is a chiller and I know that you will enjoy my conversation with him today. Thank you for your support of the show! If you enjoy, please consider leaving a follow and a five-star review. Much love as always!

Is There Really Pus in Milk? What does the “milk pus test” tell us about the U.S. milk supply? Dairy cows might normally live for about 20 years, but they are typically slaughtered for hamburger after they're just a few years old when they produce less milk and their profitability drops. But another leading cause of cow culling is mastitis––udder inflammation and infections––which affects 99.7 percent of all dairy operations in the United States. The economic and political landscape between the United States and Europe is undergoing a seismic shift as Trump's tariff threats create ripples across the Atlantic. Our expert guests, Professor Veronica de Romanis from Rome and journalist Fraser Myers from London, provide fascinating insights into how European countries are responding to this new economic reality.De Romanis characterizes Europe's reaction as one of profound uncertainty, noting that while this instability threatens short-term growth, it might ultimately strengthen the EU's collective resolve. Meanwhile, the UK government appears more optimistic about negotiating favorable terms with Trump, despite potentially devastating impacts on key British industries like automotive manufacturing and pharmaceuticals. The conversation reveals striking contrasts between American and European economic structures. While the US struggles with twin deficits (both trade and fiscal), Europe grapples with slower growth and demographic decline. Germany's momentous shift away from its traditional debt brake policies signals a recognition that increased public spending on infrastructure, healthcare, and technology has become essential to prevent recession.Perhaps most alarming is Europe's demographic crisis, with birth rates plummeting to unsustainable levels—just 1.3 children per woman across the EU and a shocking 1.01 in Italy. This population decline threatens everything from pension systems to workforce availability. De Romanis advocates increasing female employment (currently just 50% in Italy) as a critical part of the solution. The migration debate reveals another fascinating divergence across Europe. While Germany's substantial investment in integrating Syrian refugees has yielded impressive results (80% now employed and German-speaking), less managed approaches in countries like the UK and Italy have fueled political backlash. As Myers notes, migration has become Britain's number one political issue, even surpassing economic concerns. As diplomatic tensions simmer between the US and Europe, the podcast captures a continent at a crossroads—torn between embracing strategic autonomy and maintaining vital economic relationships with America. For leaders like Italy's Giorgia Meloni, this creates a complex balancing act between ideological alignment with American conservatives and protecting an export-led economy that would suffer severely from tariffs.Don't miss this thoughtSupport Our WorkThe Center for Demographics and Policy focuses on research and analysis of global, national, and regional demographic trends and explores policies that might produce favorable demographic results over time. This is just the most recent example in a lengthening string of Sony absolutely botching its first party initiative, deploying teams on projects that make no sense, purchasing studios that have never even released a game, and complicating a service game strategy that -- at least on paper -- made a lot of sense. The two leaders plan to engage in discussions over a trade deal, with Trump suggesting he's hopeful the pair will reach an agreement. Plus, with the summit now in full swing, our Rebel News team is on the ground in the Calgary area, covering the ins and outs of the high-level meetings after winning accreditation following the brief launch of a lawsuit against the Carney government. And finally, Rebel reporter Alexa Lavoie was in New York this weekend, where thousands came out to demonstrate against President Trump's efforts to enforce immigration laws as part of the "No Kings" protest.

Elon vs Trump The verbal battle between these two have become a media sensation, but what is the actual problems underlying this situation? How is the "Big, Beautiful Bill" helping or hurting? Why is it that only 3 people in Congress seem to be concerned about the spending of the government? We need to balance the budget, and we could not only do that but be paying down debt if we could just go back to 2019 spending. While the Pandemic may have warranted additional funds, why did we not return to spending before that emergency?   Sponsors: American Gold Exchange Our dealer for precious metals & the exclusive dealer of Real Power Family silver rounds. Why do I need wine every night now when I used to be able to control my drinking? Ronna faced this exact question during the pandemic when her occasional wine with dinner transformed into a nightly necessity for coping with grief and stress. As a musician and pastor's wife, she grew up in a family where alcohol was normalized, but a series of devastating losses—including her sister-in-law's suicide and her mother's death just ten days apart—pushed her daily drinking from social habit to survival tool. After discovering This Naked Mind and learning the science behind alcohol addiction, Ronna realized she wasn't weak or destined to repeat family patterns—she was simply human, responding to an addictive substance during unimaginable pain. In this episode, Ronna joins Coach Cole to share her 448-day journey from shame and hiding to freedom and self-compassion. Trigger Warning: This episode contains discussion of suicide and family loss. Coach Cole and Ronna discuss: Growing up in a family where alcohol was normalized and expected Starting drinking as a teenager and touring musician lifestyle The slow progression from wine with dinner to daily necessity How pandemic stress amplified existing drinking patterns Dealing with devastating family losses including suicide and death Using alcohol as a tool to cope with grief and stop overthinking The shame of hiding drinking while in a visible church position Discovering This Naked Mind and learning addiction science Realizing "why do I need wine every night now" had scientific answers Finding freedom in "I drink as much as I want, I just don't want to" Choosing self-compassion over shame about past drinking And other topics…
