Welcome to a world where medicine meets politics: a space that brings together scientific research, government wrangling, public push-back and healthcare conspiracies…Dr Anthony Fauci was the Director of America's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for nearly four decades, during which time he not only helped study, treat and prevent viruses such as HIV/AIDS and Covid-19; he also advised seven US Presidents, from Ronald Regan through to Joe Biden.Along the way, Tony Fauci's picked up a public profile and taken a fair amount of flack; not least because of his complicated relationship with President Donald Trump. But he's also made great strides in medical research and policy, from working with activists who initially challenged him on the government response to HIV/AIDS - to spearheading the USA's PEPFAR project to share vital medication with developing nations. In a candid conversation with Professor Jim Al-Khalili, Tony discusses his childhood in Brooklyn, the dark early days of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, lessons from the Covid-19, his hopes and fears for the future of American health policy – and his reaction to that pre-emptive pardon from President Biden.Presented by Jim Al-Khalili Produced for BBC Studios by Lucy Taylor

In this episode, I had the absolute joy of chatting with Kelsey Cook—mama, entrepreneur, and all-around powerhouse—about what it really looked like to start a business in the middle of a global pandemic. (Because, you know, some of us made sourdough… and others built empires.)Kelsey opened up about the wild ride of launching her business while navigating the daily rollercoaster of motherhood. And let me just say: this woman is a force. We talked about the reality of building something from scratch during one of the most uncertain times in recent history, all while changing diapers, answering emails, and trying to remember the last time she drank water that wasn't cold coffee. What really stuck with me was her honesty around boundaries—like, the kind that protect your energy and your time and your sanity. She shared how she learned (sometimes the hard way) to say no, delegate, and guard her creative space so she could actually build something sustainable. We also dug into:The emotional resilience it takes to hear tough feedback and keep going anywayThe magic of creating curriculum that actually lights kids upHow building a business stretched her, changed her, and helped her grow in ways she didn't expectWhy surrounding yourself with a solid team is everything when you're wearing 47 hatsThis episode is full of wisdom, real talk, and a whole lot of heart. Whether you're a mom, a dream-chaser, or someone trying to keep it all together with a messy bun and a to-do list, Kelsey's story will remind you that you're capable of so much more than you think—even in the middle of chaos.Give it a listen. You're going to love her.TakeawaysKelsey started her business out of a need during COVID.She created a curriculum for preschoolers that gained popularity. The importance of having a supportive team is crucial for growth.Setting boundaries is essential for balancing work and motherhood.Feedback can be tough, but focusing on the positive is key.Kelsey emphasizes the value of hands-on learning for children.Personal growth comes from stepping out of your comfort zone. It's important to trust yourself as a parent and entrepreneur.Kelsey learned to delegate tasks to avoid burnout.Consistency and perseverance are vital for success.
I've been asked this question a lot lately…“Why didn't network marketing EXPLODE from the pandemic and recession, like so many expected? Why are we seeing declines instead of massive growth?”Let's get into it…There's no single reason — it's a combo of things. Yes, the pandemic created a surge for many companies in 2020–2021. But what people don't talk about is that growth was artificial. It was more of a sugar rush than it was sustainable momentum. People were home. They had more time.More stimulus checks.Ecommerce in general saw record-breaking numbers. But then what happened?Life returned to “normal,” attention spans shrank, wallets tightened, and expectations changed. Here's what I believe are the top reasons we've seen double-digit declines across many product-based companies:1. Artificial Pandemic BumpMany companies grew from a moment, not a movement. Growth wasn't built on deep belief or long-term behavior—it was built on convenience and timing.2. Lack of InnovationA lot of companies got lazy during the good times. They stopped innovating. Compensation plans didn't evolve. Products didn't stay ahead of the curve. Messaging got stale. And when consumer priorities shifted, companies weren't ready. This is a GENERALIZATION. I know many of you did evolve.3. We're in the “Options Era”Let's say someone used to buy 100 things. Now their budget forces them to cut back. 10–30% of those go first. Did your product make the cut?Uber. Airbnb. Affiliate. Creator economy. Ecom dropshipping. All legit options now. If we don't create real, unique value, we lose. Those options weren't avail in 2008.4. Poor Customer RetentionMost companies still don't do a great job reselling the customer after the sale. The fortune isn't just in the follow-up—it's in the retention experience.5. False ExpectationsPeople heard “work from home” and thought “easy income.” They weren't ready for rejection, consistency, and leadership development. So they quit early.Lazy on Leadership DevelopmentWe stopped developing leaders because it was so easy!Companies and leaders have been back in the trenches. Some for the last 2 years but you don't just plant a seed and expect a tree to grow the next day. It takes time to see the fruits of your labor. We are starting to see some of those results already and we will continue to see more. This is the WEEDING out season.Listen up—go to www.rankandbanksystem.com right now. Why? Because if your network marketing check isn't where you want it, this is the fix. It's my 30-day Rank & Bank System—daily trainings from me, daily challenges that actually move the needle, and accountability that keeps you in the game. Here's the kicker: it's got a 100% money-back guarantee. You follow the system, show up for 30 days, and if your check doesn't grow, you pay nothing. Zero risk. Most programs drown you in fluff—this one's built to get you results fast, without the overwhelm. I've taken people from $400 a month to millions (not normal but possible) with this exact framework. You've got nothing to lose and everything to gain—go to www.rankandbanksystem.com and lock it in before you miss out. Let's make your bank account match your hustle.
Today, we're looking at the confrontation between attendees at the annual Walk For Israel in Toronto and the pro-Hamas crowd that turned out to protest the annual event. Plus, controversy erupted over the decision to allow the pro-Hamas crowd to march alongside the pro-Israel rally, allowing the counterdemonstrators to blare music and yell at the Israeli supporters. And finally, Rebel News reporter Alexa Lavoie is in Ottawa as members of Parliament return to the House of Commons, where she caught up with some Liberal MPs on their way into the building.

They say that crisis reveals character, and for a brief moment, the pandemic revealed surprising financial resilience. Many Americans experienced a rare financial reset during that season, as savings rose and debt declined. But five years later, much of that progress has unraveled. Dr. Shane Enete joins us to unpack what changed—and how believers can respond faithfully in a culture gripped by renewed financial anxiety.Dr. Shane Enete is an Associate Professor of Finance at Biola University and founded the Biola Center for Financial Planning. He is also the author of the book Whole Heart Finances: A Jesus-Centered Guide to Managing Your Money with Joy.The Unexpected Silver Lining of the PandemicWhen the COVID-19 pandemic brought life to a standstill, something surprising happened with our money. Instead of overspending, many Americans buckled down.Research from the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and the U.S. Government Accountability Office showed that people used pandemic stimulus checks to reduce credit card balances and cut spending. Simultaneously, emergency fund levels rose to 20-year highs. With fewer opportunities to spend and greater economic vulnerability, people embraced margin, paid down debt, and began saving like never before. It was a rare moment of collective financial wisdom. The Return to Old HabitsBut that moment didn't last.Fast-forward to today, and the picture looks far less encouraging. Credit card debt has now surpassed $1 trillion, and six in ten Americans are uncomfortable with their emergency savings, up from just 37% before the pandemic. The decline in financial well-being is measurable. According to the CFPB's 2024 Making Ends Meet survey, the average financial well-being score dropped from 55 to 49. This score reflects how confident households feel about meeting basic expenses, like paying bills and putting food on the table.Even more concerning: over one in three Americans now carry more credit card debt than they have saved. And 42% say they couldn't go even one month without income before falling behind. Why It Matters for ChristiansSo, what's going on? Why the backslide? The answer lies not just in behavior but also in belief.Fear takes over when Jesus isn't present in our financial decisions. We start believing that we have to carry the full weight of financial responsibility. But Scripture reminds us that we have a good Father and a faithful Shepherd who provides for His children. As believers, we're called to live differently—to manage God's resources with wisdom, margin, and generosity. This begins with a mindset shift from ownership to stewardship. Many people dread the word “budget”, but we should really see this through a new lens. If budgeting is about tracking God's provision—your daily bread, your shelter, your gas money—then it becomes an act of gratitude. It's a moment to declare God's goodness.”By embracing this spiritual practice, we open a line of communication with the Lord about our finances. Budgeting isn't just math. It's discipleship.Your Next Step Toward StewardshipWhere do you begin if you want to live this way?Start simple and track your spending. Shine a light on your habits without judgment. What you illuminate can be transformed. Ephesians 5:13 says, “But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.”Using tools like the FaithFi app can help you begin this journey. And remember, you don't have to walk it alone.Living within your means, avoiding debt, and giving generously stand out in a culture of consumption. They testify to the Spirit's work in our lives, especially the fruit of self-control.When believers manage money wisely, they display a beautiful trait of the Holy Spirit. They model a life that's free, sustainable, and others-focused—the kind of financial light the world desperately needs. To read Dr. Enete's full article in the latest issue of our quarterly magazine, Faithful Steward, become a FaithFi Partner today with a gift of $35 a month or $400 a year. This week, 124 countries agreed at the World Health Assembly in Geneva on measures aimed at preventing a future pandemic. The agreement very strongly favours a “One Health” approach, appreciating how so many potential pathogens originate in human-animal interactions. Still to agree on the terms of how to share pathogens and information with global science and vaccine researchers, eventually the treaty will need to be signed by at least 60 countries. But can the inequity between countries of the global south and north, and issues of intellectual property, be bridged?A new study on origins of the Nigerian mpox epidemic points strongly to zoonotic crossovers and mobility of wildlife in West Africa. Edyth Parker of Redeemer's University in Nigeria describes their phylogenetic tree. Can the bovine form of H5N1 flu infect pigs, and could domestic pig populations then provide a crucible for further variants to develop? Jürgen Richt of Kansas State University and colleagues have been investigating. We need to keep up vigilance.Lucy van Dorp of University College London, working with a consortium including London's Crick Institute, has been looking at a moment in the past when human activity provided an opportunity for a bacterial human pathogen to change its lifestyle. According to their phylogenetic tree, the bacterium Borrelia recurrentis (which causes louse-borne relapsing fever in humans) adapted and moved from ticks to human body lice around about the same time as humans started using woollen clothing. And Susan Lieberman, VP for International Policy at the Wildlife Conservation Society, was in the trenches of the Pandemic Agreement negotiations, and shares some of her hopes for its success. With the 78th World Health Assembly in full swing, we dig into the main talking point of the conference: the Pandemic Agreement. The landmark treaty was adopted during this year's edition of the annual summit. We delve into what this means for pandemic preparedness and chart the essential next steps. During the conversation, we also discuss the funding challenges faced by the World Health Organization and possible solutions that are being explored to ensure its sustainable future. For this special episode of our podcast series recorded live on the sidelines of the World Health Assembly, Devex Senior Editor Rumbi Chakamba sits down with Helen Clark, the former Prime Minister of New Zealand, and Dr. Ngashi Ngongo, the principal adviser to the director-general on program management and the continental incident manager for mpox at the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention. Today, we're looking at a warning from TD Bank's chief economist, who says Canada is heading for a recession and forecasted 100,000 jobs could be lost in the country. Plus, President Trump announced the U.S. would be developing a "golden dome" missile defence technology — and apparently Canada is interested in joining in what could be a modernizing of North America's air-defence systems. And finally, a crime wave is whipping through the Greater Toronto Area, but the city's top officials seem to be more concerned with other issues instead of residents' safety.
